Guest Reviews
- Bruce (10/5): - The staff were wonderful!
- Ramiro (8/5): - No hot water in this hotel
- Bessy (4/5): - The staff was great. They were politr and friendly. The hotel is old and the area is noisy. Our room had thin drapes and huge lights right outside that hit the beds so sleeping was uncomfortable. We got a room with AC and obly got one thin sheet per bed. We asked for extra and were told thwy coyld only give ua one. Yoy can hear buses and cars very early in the morning. Our last night, the room upstairs was extremely noise until 4 AM. We tried to get someone to help us but we couldn't find anyone. We would never stay there again. We left the trip exhausted without proper rest any of the nights we were there.
- Edwin (10/5): - Very Friendly receptionists clean rooms and bathroom very reasonable prices
- Marisela (10/5): Great location very great staff and clean - This hotel has great location the staff is excellent, clean, spacious and great price highly recommend
- Merari (10/5): - So beautiful extremely friendly service loved it
- Roberto (10/5): - Quiet and peaceful
- Roger (10/5): - Clean place
- Dorinda (4/5): - It was 40 min from the airport in a shabby looking street, not 5 min like I thought. Inside was adorable, authentic. But, they put me in a terrible room near the parking garage, nothing like what I thought I was getting from the pictures of what I booked online. I felt unsafe. Room was very old, run down and scary. I should get my money back because it’s not what I booked.
- Dora (8/5): - Affordable and cute hotel. The hotel’s front street is one-way and very busy, and guests have to go up the sidewalk with the car to check in because there’s no parking driveway. We were told to drive behind the hotel to find a garage door to park. There are no signs, so we drove 3 times and couldn’t find it, until we picked up the bellboy to accompany us to show us the right garage door, since there were other two next to it. The hotel should put at least the letter H on the garage door or gate, so guests know at what door to knock for them to open it. If you have phone service, you could just call reception to open the gate. We rented two rooms and one of them, the toilet was very close to the wall, so we had to seat a little sideways. Ja, ja, ja, but it was very good for one night stay.
- Atharva (8/5): - My stay at this hotel was easy and comfortable. With like any budget hotel, this hotel had its quirks. We didn't have running hot water for showers, but it was okay because the weather at the time we were there was like 30 degrees celsius. Otherwise, everything else was perfect. We had a running A/C. The beds were alright. If you like having heavy comforters, bring your own blanket!
- Alvaro (8/5): - Great property ! How ever I left few items on room , went I check out. I came back several days later and the desk person . Said why the you leave behind
- Marina (8/5): - Excelente atención al cliente
- Anayansi (10/5): - The place is pretty the staff is very friendly unique decoration beautiful, nice everything.
- Jose (10/5): - Nice and very accesible hotel!
- Luis (10/5): - We end up staying here for a night, we wanted to be close to the Historic Center and we loved it. Was quiet and The stuff so friendly, very helpful.
- Nelson (8/5): - Nice
- Bryan (10/5): - Unique set up
- Nicolas (4/5): Twin room with fan turned out old and super noisy - Pictures from this hotels didn’t reflect the poor state of the room we ended up getting. But most importantly, the room was awfully noisy, being next to a busy room with a lot of truck traffic as early as 4 am.
- Norma (10/5): - Easy access
- Jose (10/5): - Yes, it's a decent and close to the historical center.
- mark (4/5): - The only good thing about this places was the price. They did mit even provide blankets or air conditioning. I was only allowed one towel for my stay. The front desk person made a big deal about getting a single extra towel and had to get it approved by another employee. The neighborhood is safe though.
- brynda (10/5): - Fantastic place! Fantastic price! Great location!
- Elias (6/5): - Me gustó la atención al cliente, la limpieza y la honestidad.
- Marco (8/5): - They should have the coffee pot always connected to keep the coffee hot, alaways.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok for a night. - The hotel is very old. No much to see around, not a nice area. The price is too expensive. Employees are very nice and helpful.
- BYRON (4/5): - I DONT LIKE THIS HOTEL
- E L (6/5): They do not offer what they promote - No hot water, no blanket's in room beds unless you ask for one, uncomfortable bed and pillows,
only one iron for the entire hotel. According to other guests, they did not had air condition in their rooms. I was first given a room in front of the reception area and had to be moved after the first night due to noise from people talking in the lobby.
- Roberto (6/5): - Front desk wouldn’t pick up calls sometimes, need someone to be opening gate to get car in and out
I was being wake up from my room to go and move my car so other people would be able to get out, basically every morning which it was annoying
- Pedro (10/5): - Staff is very accommodating. Hotel location is very central.
- ROD (8/5): - nice hotel
- John (8/5): Good place - Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and had A/C. No hot water which is common in Salvador.
- Daisy (8/5): - 😊
- Alexa (10/5): - The interior design of this hotel is very unique. The room I stayed in has beautiful stained glass windows. All of the rooms are different so each time you stay, you're getting a different experience. Cookies and drinks are available for sale in the lobby. They have a couple of tables where you can sit and have a coffee on the patio or in the atrium. They have dedicated parking behind a locked gate.
- Alberto (4/5): - Property location is ok, people are very friendly, what I didn't like was other people staying in the hotel talking to loud at 1am and early at 5am to much noise. People smoking in common areas. Drain clogged, tvs don't work sometimes. Internet sometimes slow. No hot water. Cold showers only. Woof is cold.
But over all people who work there are very kind, friendly and helpful.
- Maximiano (8/5): - To clean, Frendly estaf .
I don't like,TV and no AC.
- Dewa (8/5): - Good
- Gerald (8/5): - Great little hotel with a cool antique feel! Fair price and great staff!
- Ian J (10/5): - Excellent location, within walking distance of historic sites.
- Walter (10/5): - Superb property cheap and convinient
- Kathryn (10/5): - This place really grew on me. It’s super clean and the staff are really nice. Walking distance to metro Centro shopping. Very calm inside. A great budget option.
- Joel (10/5): - An extremely good offer considering the price. My only minor issues were the the glass panes in the room that always have light coming through them.
- Guillermo (6/5): - That was ok!!!!
- Manuel (10/5): - Great services
- Alberto (8/5): - Parking for car and location it was good.
- Jacqueline (2/5): Cheap, but not cheap enough! - Although it looked charming with old antiques, this hotel wouldn't even get a 1 star rating from me. I paid for 7 nights but only stayed for 2. I decided my comfort and safety was more important than money. On my second night, my room smelled so strongly of sewage that I had trouble sleeping. At around 4 am I heard a rat in the wall near the air conditioner. He was scratching so loudly and seemed determined to break through the wall. Needless to say, I didn't sleep from that point on. Other problems with this hotel included: no hot water, it was not as central as advertised, taxi drivers either wouldn't take you there or didn't know where it was, there were no close restaurants within walking distance, and the neighborhood was terrible
- Guadalupe (2/5): Money back - Never find the hotel GPS never couldn’t finding.
Don’t think I have to pay for a place the it’s impossible located.. no happy with this.
- Pav (10/5): Great price for good room - I only stayed one night. I also left at 3.30 am to the airport. My room was large and had all the necessary equipment. The hotel is a bit out. You will need to take Uber or taxis in the evening
- lex_loci_david (8/5): 4 Stars but read this... - So this is a small older style hotel with authentic 'spanish heritage' ambience.
We found:
- the room to be large
- beds to be comfortable
- the look and feel of the interior of the hotel to be great but not modern
- food at the no name 'cafe' next door to be ultra cheap and good
We also found:
- the location to be noisy. The room faced right onto the busy street and the slat type windows let in ALL the traffic noise
- the shower to have one tap and one temperature - which is common in the low end hotels
- our room had no AC but it did have a fan
- there is no parking available (and probably none close by)
- the room was not particularly clean and the floor was definitely not clean
- the wifi was ok but no better than that on the phone - and maybe worse
- the location to be convenient for small street vendor type shops but definitely not a place most people would be comfortable with at night..
- Jose (10/5): Good place to stay - Very friendly staff and affordable place to stay
- melvin (10/5): - Great staff, free parking, good food
- melvin (10/5): - Great staff, clean room, free parking
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Gracias
- Patricio (8/5): Bring Ear Plugs - The Hotel was beautiful in the lobby area reminded me of Mexico. The rooms were clean and the shower was very clean Good water pressure, but no hot water at all. The only downside to this hotel is that the walls are very thin and you can hear literally everything your neighbor does conversations etc. I was up all night because of that. If your a light sleeper this place won’t work for you. One thing that was a positive is that your vehicle is locked in and safe in the attached garage. Downfall is that when anyone leaves you hear the car and them
- Verified traveler (6/5): Below average. - The hotel aka lobby presentation was good. You see old items. But the room I stayed on first days is absolutely horrible. The blankets looks dirty though I saw them washing it. The room has mosquitoes. So I asked the receptionist for a mosquito spray and he provided me one.the receptionist are nice. I moved to another room for my last night but it was so hot like hell. So I moved to another room again which is way better. This is good for one night only. Or not. Location ain't good either. No restaurants and not safe.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome hotel and practical if you looking something affordable at downtown
- Melissa (10/5): - Todo los empliados son muy amable y te trata como si estas en casa. Tambien buscan acomodate en lo que nesesites.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It's in a good location, close to buses
Really nice staff, a decent amount of places to eat close to the hotel
- Rudie (8/5): - Nice place to stay. Very clean room; nice and friendly staffs. The internet was down at the evening when I need to find out about the transport and another places. Self service laundry was not available anymore at about 8 pm.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every thing was ok.......... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
- Nora (8/5): Nice little cave - The place is nice, little shelter! The workers are so kind 😍 the only weird thing is to enter in your room you have to pass true all laundry area
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very and beautiful I personally Recommend this hotel
- Steve (10/5): Good value close to dosntosn - The bed was OK and the place was clean. Location was good close to places to eat and the downtown are. Also there was a market around 1.5 Km away that was convenient. Tica Bus 1.5 Km away. Easy walk.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean and close to all points, they need to install hot water and restaurant. Other wise I felt like home, staff very kind.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No parking available or to far away
No enough towel
Toilet paper attached in a bad place
Shower don’t have soap, shampoo, towels holder
- Naomi (6/5): Frustrating - Booked 1 bed and they gave me 2... I specifically booked a week in advance to make sure I was gonna get what I paid for but I guess that didn’t matter to them. Staff was indifferent and seemed not to care at all. Disappointing. The place itself is really nice though.
- Doris (10/5): - Caferteria beside the hotel, university, 10 mins walk to bus stations, 7 mins walk to mayor plaza and cathedral. 5 mins starts streets full of sellers of food, fruits,clothes,bags.....
Everything was close. Hot water is not needed with hot weather. Taxis and excursions are offered by hotel
- Patricia (8/5): Very quiet able to sleep. - Very nice small hotel very clean and very Spanish style good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Everything was nice, except the location was not the one that was promised.
- drnorth (8/5): Cozy hotel in a great location - I really deliberated about staying here because, while the hotel looked nice, everything i read talked about the location being dangerous. I chose this hotel because it had charm and it is walking distance to the Centro Historico. I am glad i did. I was able to walk to see the churches and squares I was interested in. Plus, the neighbourhood gives a nice view of local life. It is on a number of bus routes, it is easy to get taxis and walk to markets. I even want walking at night (which I was advised against), and it was fine.
The hotel was great. My room was comfortable. AC was unnecessary. No hot water - but I knew that going in. The wifi worked well. There were lots of common areas to sit and hang out in.
The little restaurant next door has decent food for super cheap, and there are lots of similar options in the surrounding area.
No one at the hotel spoke any English, but i relief on my super basic Spanish and phrase book and it was fine.
I would definitely recommend this place.
- Maria (8/5): Comfortable hotel, not nice area - Beds were comfortable, air conditioning worked well, wifi worked well. Cold water only in bathrooms. Hotel is in an area you would not want to walk around, day or night - get taxis
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a good stay the personal was very helpful a goof customer service the room was always clean and the parking was spacious the city was close by and I will recommend this hotel for a temporary stay
- kts17 (8/5): Genuine Salvadoran hospitality in a good location - There is so much to like about this lovely little hotel. I stayed here twice during a recent trip to Central America - I used it as a transit hotel, it is about 30 minutes from the airport and 10 - 15 minutes from the international bus depot. As other reviews have stated the hotel is in the university neighbourhood which is a little safer than some other central neighbourhood's but what really makes this a great experience is the hard-working, friendly and hospitable staff. They seem to genuinely care about their guests comfort and well being, ensuring you are able to get around safely and making transfer and transport arrangements was no problem at all. My first stay was in one of the smaller, upper level rooms - it was fan cooled, had a TV and free wifi. It was perfectly comfortable for the short stay. My second stay was in one of the larger, lower floor rooms that in addition to the above was large and had a table and chairs in the room, it was a very nicely appointed room. The showers are cold but to be honest quite refreshing, even in the slightly cooler months San Salvador can be sticky. The hotel is walking distance to the city centre however please take the advise of staff - if they ask you to take a taxi it is for your own safety. Whilst I didn't feel threatened at all during my stay I was on higher alert when walking around the city and in the central market. I would also highly recommend the small restaurant next door - the food is fantastic, especially the arroz and gris (rice and beans) and grilled chicken - possibly one of the best meals I had in Central America.
Great stay at an affordable and comfortable hotel.
- 1elizabethv1985 (8/5): standard room perfect for late flight arrivals - I landed at 1 AM, had to get to this hotel 30 mins away, and check-in. All was smooth and I felt bad because the same guy was working the next morning. Nice staff and I couldn't stay long because I had a hike to Santa Ana booked for 8 AM so this was a good little quiet crash pad. Comfortable bed and free coffee in the morning.
- Verified traveler (6/5): City Center - The hotel is very pretty and the staff was pleasant. Their were some problems. First there was no hot water in the room. Second there was no plugs in the room. Though the wifi was good, I was unable to use my laptop because there were no plugs to recharge the battery. I also asked the hotel if they could get me a pizza, just for me, and they ordered a huge pizza, enough for at least 6 people, so most was left in the room.
- Nathaniel (6/5): Good for a cheap quick night stop over - quiet clean space, but old and no ventilation in the interior room. Still felt a bit dirty overall. Needs renovations. They provided free coffee and parking which was great. Wifi worked well. Staff was friendly.
- melissajjjjj (8/5): Great as a home base - Villa Florencia was a lovely hotel. The taxi drivers and tour guides found it easily. The room we had was spacious and clean & the room was attended to daily. I would recommend knowing some basic Spanish, but in reality I would recommend that to anyone travelling to El Salvador. Despite our lack of Spanish the staff at the hotel were excellent, friendly & patient. We didn’t walk the streets at night,so I cannot speak to the safety of the area. But a tour guide did tell us that it wasn’t safe. We stayed for 5 nights and filled our days with tours so by the time we got back to the hotel we didn’t even want to go out!
If you exit the hotel and turn left the first street you come to seemed to have a lot of food stalls most days we were there. There is a taco stall that is called ‘taco bexi’ (I think) his burritos were delicious! I definitely recommend the stroll to grab one.
The hotel has snacks and drinks available. These were all very well priced.
The hotel is a bargain! Definitely value for money. Overall I recommend the hotel, we felt safe in the hotel and it was quiet at night.
- vanelic (8/5): Good for the price paid - It is centrally located in San Salvador but still not too central. It is about 15min walk from the cathedral and in somewhat safer university neighbourhood. Not too difficult to find using google maps.
At 13usd a night it is a good place to spend a night if you are on tight budget. The bed was comfortable, room of decent size and clean with satellite TV and fan. I don’t like the heat but fan was just fine. No AC is necessary. It would be nice to have hot water in the bathroom though but I guess you get used to cold water when travelling around Central America.
Overall just fine for the price paid.
- Maio (6/5): Nice hotel also very close to downtown - Hotel is nice very safe, also closed to downtown and stores and restaurant
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Is. A very nice hotel
The staff are. Nice and the room is nice also. And they. Have good
Service.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Definitely for someone on a really tight budget - The location was great. The staff was nice and as helpful as can be. They do not speak ANY English. There is no hot water and the Wi-Fi signal was so weak it was non existent. Lastly the plug for the outlet to charge electronic devices was in the bathroom under the light switch. An odd and inconvenient spot. They do have a restaurant attached to the hotel that provides all meals for extremely cheap. my dinner was $3 and everything I ate there was delicious. They room was basic: bed bathroom and tv. It was very clean and met most of my needs. I chose this place because of the price but next time id definitely be willing to spend a few extra dollars for a little more comfort.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quality Service - I was satisfied with the helpful caring attitude of the staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Place - The Location is perfect for my trip since the Bus depot is around the corner.
- MhairiD1 (6/5): Perfectly fine for the price. - We stayed here for one night as it is right beside the King Quality bus to Honduras. The room was clean and had a comfy bed. No hot water but this is fairly typical in El Salvador. The internet didn't work in our room as were right at the back of the hotel but it was good in the reception area (this meant our room was quieter as the rooms at the front are right beside the main road).
Overall we got exactly what we paid for. Absolutely nothing to complain about.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good hotel for a quick layover - Although finding the hotel was a disaster, there are 2 streets with the same name so google maps sent us to the wrong place, the staff was friendly enough and the hotel was fine for the price. Beds were comfortable but no hot water in the shower and very little pressure in the shower head. We had a very short layover so it was good enough for 1 night.
- Mario (10/5): perfect price/ quality raport - the architectural charm ,location ,price, kindness and charm of every one in the staff compensates largely the lack of air conditioning and hot water, for me they were not necessary.
- Daisy (2/5): Scary and a horrible expirience.
- This hotel have two locations, the one in Colonia Escalón, is located in a safe area. I'm have to travel to El Salvador, for an emergency, is knowing my country is one of the most dangerous to be to anyone who don't know the areas to visit or to be around, and the second location of this hotel is in a very dangerous area of San Salvador, during nights is an area where is normal to see prostitution activity, therefore the possibility to get assaulted is highly. I have to travel due to an emergency, don't even have a time to verify the area where de hotel was located, I arrived to San Salvador, late on October 11, and i went directly from the airport to a funeral home where my oldest brother was, then later it was almost midnight I went to the hotel to check in, first I went to the Colonia Escalón location, to found out I had to check in the other location, went there and was horrible experience that I decided not even try to check in, I run from there and checked in in another hotel located in a safe area.
- Verified traveler (2/5): No air conditioning, bad area, not very clean - I arrived ask to go see the room before actual check in because the first impressions... Walk in and literally walk out right away... I end up staying at the crown Plaza. Too many inconveniences at this small hotel... Must add there is no parking, no air conditioning, very busy street, not a ver nice area around and not very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): cozy and welcoming! - No one mentioned there was no hot water! place is very warm and cozy and inviting on the inside but the outside is unnoticeable the neighborhood is not great, no shopping or restaurant near by and if you get a room on the side of the street it is very noisy! but it was always clean and very friendly staff. I would come back again but I would book a room with ac and away from the street next time lol.
- devin (2/5): buyer beware - very misleading they don't care if you are lucky it can be ok but if not it's a nightmare
- Angelo (6/5): Cheap, safe place to sleep in historic district - The layout of this old building is impressive with antique furniture, phones, typewriters, and musical instruments decorating the halls. It's a relatively small place with rooms that open right into the small center lobby, but the building has lots of character. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were small but comfortable, and the hotel is located within walking distance to many historical sights in San Salvador. Good WiFi connectivity.
It's also quite cheap for a nightly stay, and relatively secure with large barricaded gates and double locking doors. The hotel offers no food or meal plan whatsoever, it's simply a lodge, despite indicating so on the website. For those with privacy concerns, some of the rooms have fixed, open ducts that allow noise to travel, there is also no safe or phone in the rooms.
Special mention goes to the front desk attendant that let us store or bags behind his cramped reception desk for most of the day after we checked out of the hotel before moving on to Guatemala. He also allowed us to change some foreign currency into dollars late at night when no facilities were open in all of San Salvador. This is NOT official policy, but just ask and you might get lucky. There's also a very good and very cheap mom and pop place to eat right next door to the hotel with friendly staff.
We recommend this place for those looking for simple, safe, and basic accommodation in the old quarter of San Salvador. It's ideally placed for day trips, too.
- Miguel (6/5): Close to the city but not commuter friendly - Stayed close to the city for access to everything. Great staff service easy to find and know by name.
- smez2290 (2/5): A total LIE! - The address given on this website is wrong. My friends and I wondered around San Salvador for about TWO HOURS trying to find the hotel. When we thought we had arrived(really nice version of Hotel Villa Florencia Centro) we found out it was Hotel Villa Florencia Zona Rosa; the receptionist told us we were in the wrong branch and gave us the address to the bad version of this chain. We got to the right one and we were amused by the big difference between the hotels (receptionist at the nice one warned us it was a little different). As some might know, San Salvador is hot so you would think AC is is a must at a hotel. For my surprise, only one of the rooms had such privilege. We had no WIFI or AC (hotel specifies they have). I wouldn't be complaining if I had paid for rooms without WIFI or AC. I asked the hotel receptionist for a refund and he failed to do it. He kept saying I had to get in contact with Hotels.com and talk to them about the issue, but the hotel itself would not be able to give me my money back. After spending several minutes arguing with him, I agreed to stay. The next morning one of my friends (we were a group of ten people) heard a visitor complaining about the same issue. I came to the conclusion that this hotel lies about its amenities just to get foreigners, like me and my friends, to reserve their rooms. If you plan to visit San Salvador, do not by any chance, reserve in this hotel! Instead, just pay a couple more bucks and have some peace of mind.
- Stephanie (2/5): It's not worth the headache - The address given on this website is wrong. My friends and I wondered around San Salvador for about TWO HOURS trying to find the hotel. I came to the conclusion that this hotel lies about its amenities just to get foreigners, like me and my friends, to reserve their rooms. If you plan to visit San Salvador, do not by any chance, reserve in this hotel! Instead, just pay a couple more bucks and have some peace of mind.
- Gladys (2/5): Bad choice - They did a lot of noice, the bathroon did not work, terrible experience
- Nomad (6/5): - Hotel worth price, but be aware of amenities. No restaurant,
- a garcia (8/5): Good service - The employees are very nice, polite, ready to help. They keep the area clean and in order
- Yancy (8/5): Nice stay - WIFI worked fine, the neighborhood is not as bad as everyone states. If you are that concerned and afraid, you shouldnt be there in the first place, the common dangers of El Salvador is nothing people dont know about before going. I walked around the area day and night without problems, infact, found the people to be quite nice and helpful. My A/C room was perfectly fine and the staff were very helpful.I actually cancelled a reservation at another hotel and stayed at this hotel for the remainder of my stay in San Salvador. Yes, there is no hot water, but the water is not freezing either.
- Yancy (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay. I do agree that the owners need to update their website description of the rooms. NOT all rooms have air conditioning like they say. But anyone with common sense should really understand this when there are actual options for airconditioned rooms, obviously, the others will not have it. Then again, I have traveled enough to countries with the same description problems (i.e. India).
- Ian (8/5): Basic hotel, but don't be put close to town - This is a cheap hotel but good value for money, close to all attractions in San Salvador I really enjoyed my stay,it is a nice hotel, don't be put off.
