- Mothusi (4/5): Not well maintained. Old bedding and beds. - The place needs professional staff and renovations. From bedrooms, kitchen service and the pool. Very disappointing.Owner needs to invest in improving these conditions ASAP. I shall never stay there again and will never recommend anyone to stay there if these conditions are not taken care of.

- nishandra kumar (4/5): - We were totally disappointed with everything except the shower.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Far from the airport - The overnight stay was ok just far away from everything the wifi wasn't working and they didn't have bottle of water to buy knowing that you can't drink the water at this time overall stay was decent and I will stay again if I have too hope this meet future guess well
- Phillip (2/5): Luggage Held Hostage - I booked this hotel for a one night stay and requested airport shuttle. Spoke to Rosaline who stated she would have a shuttle come pick me up from the airport. The driver was courteous and got me to my location very quick, fast forward to the following day and as the driver has taken me and my son to the airport he informs us that there is a $90 dollar fee for taking us to the airport. I questioned this and the driver informed me that this is the normal fee and that it was in my booking, I promptly reviewed my booking and there was no mention of any airport shuttle fee. I called Rosaline and she told me that I must pay the driver this fee otherwise I would not get my bags back and that the fee was in the booking. I sent her the email which made no mention and she stated to me that the terms and conditions were on expedia.com in which I illustrated through the email that it was not on hotels.com. Rosaline state that the fee must be paid to obtain my baggage, I immediately went into the airport and informed security what happened. I showed them the emails and they agreed that based on the email and the conversation with the driver and property attendant (Rosaline) that my holding my baggage is unjustified and told them that if they didn't release it they would arrest the driver. I didn't have time to file a police report as my flight was leaving in less than an hour yes I was there for 4 hours before trying to sort this out. Don't use airport shuttle service is the moral!
- Givemore H (10/5): Jhb experience - I loved it except there were no TV channels and no wifi.
- Amba (8/5): - great location
- Evans (6/5): Quite Place - It was a nice and quiet place though to get in was a problem.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Unhelpful staff
- Durandt (2/5): Shocking misrepresentation - Did not stay. Filthy, stinking.
- Saadawi (8/5): Good location and price - Good location and price
Friendly staff
very easy to find
need more attention to cleaning and maintenance
- #UK visitor (10/5): Outstanding staff - Great hotel, my room was clean, well kept, very comfortable. Staff are outstanding, always friendly, always ready to help. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Great value for money. I have stayed in many much more expensive hotels in Jo'berg, this place is better than most.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good, clean but nothing special - The staff were very friendly and the rooms were kept clean. When I arrived there the previous guests had locked the bathroom and the window had to be broken to get access the the bathroom. The window was boarded with cardboard while I was there and so I had to lock myself in the bedroom every night as anyone would be able to access the unit through the window. I had breakfast meetings for the first 2 days I was there but on the 3rd morning decided to have coffee and toast - there wasn't any butter (how can a guest house not have such a basic commodity!) So did not bother to go to breakfast on the rest of the days to save myself the aggravation.
- Michael (6/5): nice hotel - clean room, beautiful garden, rich breakfast....enjoy the stay there!
- Rob (6/5): Satisfactory Stay - We found the Golden Gate Guest House to be ok, overall a rating of 2.5 stars. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast was good but the hotel is noisy and the decor is outdated. Hence I find the guest house over-priced.
- juraj (8/5): Make sure you can get in late - The only problem when I was coming late and didn't have keys to get in. It took over half an hour and another person who stayed there that opened for me. Make sure you can get in late either someone can open or you have the keys.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very conducive environment for leisure and business.
- Disenchanted (4/5): Poor management - My room was occupied when I arrived, (double booking), so I had to settle for another room for one night. This room was less than acceptable. The studio room I booked was quit nice but kitchenette finishing poor. The toilet did not flush but was repaired the same day. The room is situated at the entrance to the main building and scullery and was very noisy from 07H00
- Verified traveler (8/5): close to shopping, restaurants and entertainment - The building itself and the furnishings were not excellent, in fact, it was hardly avarage (possibly 3* at a push). HOWEVER, what it lacked in 5* star grandeur, the owner and staff made up for 10 fold! The 'continental' breakfast turned out to be a fulle English plus continental breakfast daily (I stayed 5 days). Every need one expressed, they bent over backward to fulfill. The owner picked me up from the Airport herself, I was allowed to check mails and print papers free of charge because my laptop broke down, they did my laundry before I left, if I wanted anything special to eat, needed directions, even so far as sending somebody with me so that I don't get lost...nothing was too much trouble. It was like staying with family. In fact, I was greeted with hugs and kisses and invited to rturn soon upon my departure. The surrounding area is very upmarket, safe and close to all major attractions and shopping. Well worth the stay, I miss them already!
