Guest Reviews
- NADEEM (9/5): -
- Riya (3/5): Not up to the mark - Lunch and dinner was really bad
- Carolin (10/5): -
Die Frühstücksgerichte welche man alle a la carte bestellen konnte waren allesamt sehr schmackhaft. Das lädt zum Verweilen ein. 😊 An unserem zweiten Tag kam eine mehrköpfige erwachsene Familie an, die sehr laut und einnehmend waren. Das Hotel kann dafür natürlich nichts, jedoch ist „die Anlage“ zu klein, um sich aus dem Weg zu gehen. Am Ende hat aber alles gut gepasst.

- Chand (8/5): Great Stay - Very comfortable and a great place to stay. The staff, specially the dining kitchen team - very accommodating with requests. Getting to this hotel is however a mission, with off road single service lane that leads to the hotel from the main road. The lane itself is atleast a few kms and when cross paths with another on coming vehicle, the challenge gets real to navigate.
- Susan (10/5): Luxury and comfort in the jungle - Beautiful picturesque location in the jungle. We really liked our cottage tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and the food was excellent and ready when we got here (we were able to pre-order
- Bronwyn (8/5): -
- Nidhi (5/5): Not worth the money. - Breakfast was good. Food was amazing. The beds were comfortable. Beautiful surrounding and ambience.. We had hot water issues. Middle of the shower the water got cold.
The lamp shade was torn
These issues I thought were absolutely unacceptable if you are charging us 200$ a night.
- Catherine (8/5): - The staff were fantastic. The food was excellent. The room was comfortable. The spa was lovely. The pool was only half full.
- Soju (5/5): - Morning food was good. Poor Room maintenance
Location of the property and the road condition to the property
Pool was not clean even after informing the staff they didn't clean it
Room service staff didn't show up even after raising a request for room service
There was no good view from property
Path from reception to the room was very slope and proper step or transfer facility
- Mohamed Imran (1/5): Worst avoid this property - Worst staff behaviour by girish. We paid 17,000 for a night and it was utter waste of money. Highly disappointed. No buffet. Hardly staffs will be around to guide you. So much attitude by restaurant staff. Not friendly hotel family with kids. Waste of money. Avoid this property it looks outdated no amenities and nothing is there. The road that leads to the property also in bad condition. Bad choice

- Avarachen (8/5): Very good -
- Kanika (9/5): Superb - We had such a wonderful stay at Niraamaya! The location was peaceful, surrounded by nature. The staff were incredibly kind and always ready to help, making us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious—we looked forward to every meal! But honestly, one of our favorite moments was just sitting on the balcony, listening to the birds and soaking in the tranquility. Wish the swimming pool was operational.
- Douglas (8/5): Very good -
- Ellen (7/5): Amazing location. - The location was perfect! Tranquil and wild. A staff memeber was so eager to please it was quite uncomfortable. He was rather overbearing. Maybe he is used to high maintenance people? If he chilled out by 20% it would have been perfect.
- Reuben (8/5): Beautiful, serene but a little overpriced - Beautiful setting, amazing swimming pool, attentive staff and great food. I felt it was a little overpriced given that no spa, yoga or meditation sessions were included in the price. And it was difficult to get to meaning you needed to pay for a tuk tuk whenever you were leaving or coming back to the resort.
- Angnish (6/5): - The property needs a major clean-up.
- Justin (7/5): Good -
- Oliver (8/5): Very lovely but not quite sure they have the right price - value point... - Lovely treatments, delightful pool, ok rooms but with beautiful view of the tiger reserve. One website said this was 5*, one that it was 3* and one that is was 4*. It was really lovely but did feel a touch expensive for what it was.
- Chaitali (9/5): An interesting stay in a near perfect location. - Wonderful location, courteous staff, well cooked and presented meals. Bird call and rare plants all around. Front office staff courteous helpful. Well run dining room facilities under Girish. The bathroom could be more spic and span. Shower needs cleaning. It could be upgraded to a better one. Furnishings are old and a bit garish. Soothing colours in pastel shades would be a good replacement.
- Jasvir (10/5): - Great hotel with scenic cottages
- Zenyu (8/5): - Very good services. Facility could be updated.
- Sarah (4/5): Would not recommend - I didn’t like anything - other than the staff were lovely
it is in a very remote location it’s very old and damp buildings we checked out after 1 night but should have stayed 2…
The food was ok Rooms old damp - not a good location - don’t serve alcohol
- Elisa (8/5): A good retreat in the forest - An amazing retreat with lush gardens and infinity swimming pool in the peace of the forest. Built with high quality standards. It is perfect as a retreat to relax and enjoy nature After 12 years, it is obvious that the rooms are in need of refurbishment. The state road that leads to The Valley is in urgent need of repair. It consists of 2km of bumps.
- Parin (10/5): - Great property but remote.
Lovely staff
Amazing masseurs
- Philippe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manojkumar (8/5): Very good -
- Nachimuthu (7/5): Good -
- Aravinda (9/5): Superb - Location

Staff
Manager Felt lunch and dinner options for Veg were limited.
Felt food expensive.
- Kumar (8/5): All good. - Food, whatever available, was very good and tasty. But the spread or rather choice was not that great.
We did not use SPA. Nothing specific to mention. On the whole everything went of well.
- Atul (10/5): Lovely Resort and Fantastic Location - Highly Recommended!! - My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this resort for 4 nights. However, when we got to the resort, we were welcomed with a welcome drink (ginger tea) and were led to our room - the mountain view room. As we had reached the resort past sunset, we didn't get to see anything from the balcony of our room as it was pitch dark outside. The room was excellent, it was a wooden cabin with almost ceiling to floor glass window panes. We woke up to the sound of bird calls and also some monkey hoots in the distance. We loved the serenity of the resort, even though it had only 13 rooms, it felt really upmarket and beautifully designed. The breakfast options were great, a good mix of south indian, north indian and western food options with fruit juices. Lunch and dinner options were good too. The resort managers (Mr. Prakash, Ms. Indu) and the staff at the restaurant were really welcoming and made our stay a good one. All in all, we highly recommend this resort for anyone looking for a short getaway from your routine lives! The drive to the resort from the main road was a rocky, bumpy, narrow single lane 2km road filled with potholes, which could have damaged our car's tires and suspension. The bed and pillows could have been more comfortable, but they were acceptable.
- Joanne (9/5): Stayed here to visit Periyar and had a great time. Recommend nature walk at Periyar- we saw elephants, wild boar, bison - Fantastic views from balcony with loads of bird life. Fantastic staff. Best TikTok driver ever shuttled us around and helped out where needed and picked us up. Lovely cool pool. Good food. Nothing to dislike
- Aditya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karun (7/5): Good -
- Rohit (9/5): Superb - Location of the hotel and staff was very courteous Breakfast option was very bad for the rate paid, food was not to great in terms of flavour.
- Kelly (2/5): Very bad customer service - The setting is beautiful and peaceful. The room and the staff who dealt with our issue. We arrived to discover DIY paint work being carried out by the pool. Then in the evening when we went to our room we discovered that our sheets were damp and the quilt mouldy. We were moved into another room that night and that was equally damp. When I raised it in the morning, I was told that I needed to take up the issue with Booking.com. The staff were unhelpful and unapologetic. We spent three weeks in India and stayed in five star accommodation for our holiday. This was the worse experience we had and the issue is still unresolved. Our stay was in December 2023 and I would highly recommend not paying for your hotel if there are issues. I am still waiting to hear about the resolution.
- Peter (6/5): Good but expected more after great stay within Niraamaya Backwaters - The location & staffuncties who were very helpful and attentive The cleanliness of room - everything was very humid in our room, even the sheets of the bed
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Aditya (10/5): Rejuvenating retreat experience - Lovely location, amazing hospitality. One of the best forest stay experiences.
Chef made custom meals for the baby! Approach road to get to the retreat is bumpy but the pleasant stay more than makes up for it
- Marc (6/5): - Thekkady is a great place to visit due to the Periyar Wildlife Park and abundant spice plantations. The hotel staff were very happy to organise transport and activities.
The hotel itself is in a nice location up in the forest but is perhaps a bit tired.
- Vasudev (9/5): Superb - Staff and the food were excellent. Right from the Reception staff, Chef Sundar, boys at the restaurant, the chauffer Chandrettan who drove us around to the Gardner lady, everyone made us feel welcome. The location, the weather and the exceptional bird songs that woke us up every day morning were to die for. The room that was allotted to us as 'Garden facing' was not actually one of that and was actually facing the restaurant and we had to ask to switch rooms for a better Garden view. But, they were quick to offer us another beautiful room in 5 minutes. Appreciate that quick service.
- Van (10/5): Tranquility - Calming and tranquil. The birds singing was my alarm clock in the morning. Beautiful stand alone hotel rooms. I liked everything
- Rajan (9/5): Superb - Ac need to be checked
- Iniya (8/5): Very good -
- Sankar (8/5): Very good -
- Jatin (9/5): Superb -
- Abdullah (8/5): Very good -
- Ananthavetha (6/5): Decent - Breakfast was good, location is decent Very less amenities, extremely costlier dining options, not at all VFM
- Anonymous (10/5): worth it - atmosphere nothing
- Jasmin (10/5): Perfect Hideaway in pure nature! - Wonderful place and beautiful design.
The staff was sooo kind 🙏 and we loved the food!
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (3/5): the above - staff were lovely and very helpful in all respects the resort is BADLY in need of refurbishing/room not cleaned properly each day/food offer is poor/we were not made aware that alcohol was not available.
I also incurred a very bad injury due to the dilapidated and very unsafe outside stone stairs leading from dining room to rooms/no handrail/shockingly bad lighting in the evening --- all as a result of me falling down those stairs and incurring some very bad injuries which required me being taken to hospital for treatment to a fractured arm and severe abrasions to let arm and leg.
i will be taking action on this matter with Booking.com.
- Romain (10/5): Still the best paradise in Kerala - Always a pleasure to stay in Niraamaya Club Cardamon. Fantastic staff, new manager really dynamic, great Chief and restaurant staff, Chandra the driver of the Hotel is fantastic, all is great !
- Allen (8/5): No good if you are planning to work from the hotel, or want to stay connected to family/friends. - very quiet and serene Limited or no wifi, only available to one of us in the room, not both at the same time. We had to leave two days early in order to go elsewhere which was connected to the internet.
- Dixit (7/5): Great hospitality from the staff but a bit expensive - Hospitality of the staff. They went out of their way to help us. The place is very clean. Cottage is too small for the price and the walls need a new paint job. There is also place for in room dining. There was also no table in the room. Restaurant prices are bit on the expensive side but food is decent. Street from main road to hotel is in very bad shape.
- D (8/5): stay was comfortable, excellent location , very good cottage with balcony - location overpriced food and stay
- Wouter (9/5): Superb - Super staff. They will do anything for you The activities on the website might be misleading as you have to book them yourself in peryiar, but thé staff Will help you to make it possible.
- Jack (6/5): overall pleasant with a couple of issues - Beautiful location, great spa and treatments (the masseur / masseuse are fantastic), attractive interiors in the rooms dusty rooms, food was average (quite expensive, tasted ok and small portions), staff were nice but unresponsive and not very helpful - we had to chase a lot for after asking for things like room cleaning and room service
- Ganesh (8/5): Pleasurable stay with good memories. - Once we get into the resort it is all good. Homely and warm. The Chef made special dishes for us based on taste and the staff are always smiling courteous and helpful. The rooms are overlooking greenery for some quiet space in the veranda. The bathrooms are spacious and rooms are clean.....they have an eye for detail. The walk down the lane outside is a good experience and we enjoyed the quietness are rich gardens. Autos can be betokened if a quick trip needs to be made. at Overall good experience. One could argue that the road leading to the resort requires much repair, not sure why they cannot fix this. The place maybe a bit pricier than expected.
- Manish (9/5): Superb -
- Kutz (8/5): Very good -
- Ricardo (9/5): Superb -
- P (1/5): - The almost 2km road leading to the hotel is like a dirt track and the hotel is pretty inaccessible without a car. This - The property is below average, not worth the money and is definitely not a 4-star as it is being promoted. Our experience has not been positive and we checked out after one day of stay of our two day stay because the cleanliness and hygiene of the property was so bad. 0/5 I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Our experience at Niraamaya ruined our holiday and caused us a lot of distress. We were booked for two nights and checked out after the first night and didn’t receive a refund for our second night even though the reason we left was the fault of the hotel. We had to book into another more expensive hotel because of the bad experience here.
To give you an insight into our experience here…
When we were being shown to our garden room, there was dirty laundry and glasses from an earlier check-out left right outside the room, if that wasn’t enough, we were greeted by the smell of damp and mould. This flared up my partner’s asthma and it got pretty unbearable the longer we stayed in the room.
As we got into bed in the evening, we realised the bedsheets were all damp as though they were not fully dried and the bedding smelt of damp and mould too. When we raised it with reception, they sent someone to change the damp bedding, in doing so, they revealed a stained, damp and mouldy mattress protector, it is shocking to think they have let all their guests sleep on such a dirty mattress. This was the final straw for us and we decided to check-out early and request a refund for the second day stay. They REFUSED to refund the money and we left anyway because the experience of staying in an unsuitable room, followed by us having to essentially beg for a refund (even though it was the hotel at fault) tarnished our holiday and deprived us of a night’s sleep.
I was willing to forgo the dated decor and poor cleanliness levels but making guests unknowingly sleep on mouldy bedding is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone a 4-star.
- Shravan (7/5): Good -
- Vijoo (8/5): Very good -
- Pooja (4/5): Regret booking this place - Breakfast was good The staff were honestly lazy , when asked for a couple of extra glasses the staff member said you can drink from the bottle directly
Not helpful people at all
The approach road for 15 mins is awful
Leeches in the grass and no room for kids to run around
Slippery steps to rooms
- Arul (8/5): Very good - Food and hospitality Felt it overpriced to an extent
- Smita (9/5): A tryst in the lap of nature with access to swimming pool and spa. - Breakfast was very good. It is located in the middle of the forest and the musical sounds of the birds waking you up to a new day was exhilarating. The road to the retreat is narrow and has many potholes. The access signage need to be improved.
- Olga (9/5): Superb -
- Adrian (10/5): Serene stay in midst of nature - Outstandingly friendly staff, delicious food, beautiful location Nothing, we enjoyed every moment at Niraamaya
- Simrita (4/5): Property has potential but not upto the mark for the price - The food was great
Staff was nice
Chef was very accommodating The MINT room was not in good shape
The side tables were falling off the hinges
The shower didn't work properly
- Kiran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Naveennayak (6/5): Pleasant -
- Almasgeo (6/5): Good to stay if within the room for a couple. - The staff was very welcoming and accomodative to changes. The cottage rooms had too much creaking noise on floor and wardrobe doors. The view from the rooms do not really give the canopy feel. The height is very low. There is not much space to move around in the resort. Overall the resort area is very compact. Breakfast starts at 8:30 am, that's too late.
- Nigel (9/5): Lovely retreat on mountainside slightly outside town. - Lovely wooden treehouse style room (mountain view) with super comfy bed.
Excellent food.
Very attentive staff, especially the hotel driver and concierge who arranged trips for us.
Nice to have the pool though it took a couple of minutes to get used to the temperature as unheated. The property location is incorrect. It's at the end of a long, poor road a few miles from the town centre. Google maps has the correct location.
Hotel did provide car and driver to get about at reasonable rates however.
Air conditioning in the room was a little noisy.
Wifi was very poor - connection regularly dropped and would not automatically reconnect.
- Sandeep (10/5): - The property was beautiful and well maintained. The infinity pool was the star. The spa was also amazing. Few things need to be upgraded but other than that the resort is amazing with stunning views and yummy food.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Thalraj (9/5): Superb -
- Suresh (1/5): Bad -
- Murali (8/5): Nice envionment - Location Bit expensive
- Adhithya (9/5): Superb -
- Moneam (9/5): Superb -
- Anfas (9/5): it was a soothing experience - the location, ambience, the calm, the staff and the in house restaurant
- Akashdeep (10/5): i have no words for such kind of service from staff members. the view was relaxing and inspiring. it was better than any - Evergreen Jungle around the property but still well maintained. Extreme welcoming staff. Always on toes to take care of there guests. the only thing we didn’t like was it felt like a short stay.
- Alaa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (7/5): Good -
- Ajaymittal1968 (10/5): Exceptional -
- Utathya (10/5): - The Cardamom Club was a great experience. The pool was fantastic, the spa had great staff and the massages were extremely relaxing. The chef made excellent food and the whole staff, including Ashok and Indu and others, were really accommodating and helpful. The staff is a great asset to the property - everyone is friendly and provided help with anything that came up. I would highly recommend the mountain view cottage and the massage spa!
- Simon (10/5): Oasis of tranquility - Very much enjoyed our two night stay. Great to be in the middle of the rainforest and hear to cacophony of bird song everywhere. Attention to detail was very evident and the Manager Himadri was first class. We enjoyed a two hour walk up a nearby mountain accompanied by a delightful staff member Ragu and enjoyed a 360 panoramic view over the bordering National Park. And the other standout was the kitchen with excellent fare and worked on an a la carte principle. So very pleased not to see yet another buffet! Thanks for a memorable stay.
- Alison (6/5): Beautiful location and great food - Location and food very good. However road Leading up to the hotel was tortuous, the last part was closed for repair making access by car impossible, this kept us fit a d we saw lots of wildlife a d interesting culture.
The disappointment was the staffs lack of knowledge an inability to help with park safaris or other activities.
Poor WiFi was another disadvantage.
Aspired to be 5 star but could not provide the expected 5 star experience.
- Traveller (8/5): Nice stay... Very expensive food... - enjoyed the stay
- Rajat (8/5): Simple Best In Thekkady - Nice Room , Good Food & Hospitality was excellent
- HM (8/5): NICE RESORT - WE BOOKED THIS FOR OUR HONEYMOON AND WE LIKED THE RESORT. IT WAS BIT AWAY FROM THE MAIN CITY CENTER AND AWAY FROM CHAOS SO WE LIKED IT MORE HOWEVER IT COULD BE BIT TRICKY TO FIND IT ON THE FIRST DAY. THE ROOM WAS VERY GOOD. WE GOT GINGER ROOM (ONLY HAVE 6 ROOMS). RESTAURANT AND FOOD WAS GOOD. THE RECEPTION STAFF AND THE MANAGER WERE REALLY FRIENDLY AND NICE. ONE STAFF MEMBER IN THE RESTAURANT WAS BIT RUDE TO US WHENEVER WE INQUIRED/ASKED WITH HIM. MUST WATCH IS KATHAKKALI! CITY CENTER HAS MANY GOOD RESTAURANTS. THE RESORT DID NOT HAD SWIMMING POOL WHICH WAS VERY BIG NO NO BECAUSE IT WAS REQUIRED TO SPEND TIME WELL.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Sleeping inside the forest - The retreat is small but really really nice, a hidden pearl in the middle of Thekkady forest. Staff extremely polite and helpful, the cottage are lovely and very spacious. Restaurant and extra services a little bit expensive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great vacation away from city - 1) Great location - away from city center
2) Only 6 rooms and the staff gave personalized service and attention
3) Hotel restaurant's food was excellent - again they were able to customize the food - our son is allergic to tree nuts and they took care of that very well
4) If you are looking for constant and high speed connectivity to internet, that could be problem
- Puneet Jain (8/5): Awesome Hospitality - What bowled us over was the warm hospitality of the staff. They made sure we were comfortable. This property is a bit off route, surrounded from 3 sides by periyar tiger reserve. The cottages are tastefully done and food was just awesome. Highly recommended.
- jatin (10/5): “heaven in the jungle” - We stayed two night in this hotel and were greeted by a very friendly and professional staff. They gave us a very personal experience, took us out trekking. I would recommend this to anyone that want's a great experience with excellent food and very nice venue. Very clean and well maintained hotel.
