Guest Reviews
- Max (8/5): Dikke prima en een mooie duikoperatie - Front porch Weg is wat rumoerig
- Edwin (5/5): fair price, easy access to diving, friendly dive staff, sunset view from balcony ,for diving is ok, - location to scuba diving , boat is 10 feet away from your property, easy access, dive shop and dive staff are very friendly, helpful and convinient. will come back to dive , music is good, sunset view from your balcony room is wonderful. room is very outdated, slightly not clean, everything is old , need some change and update, toilet seat is uncomfortable, molded, bed sheets are sticky, we tolerated because of only 3 days of diving. hope they will improve
- 468kristal (10/5): Excellent spot for divers - This is now our second visit and we love this place. The concierge dive service will spoil you and so will the restaurant. Far enough south to avoid the noise but close enough to walk
- Iuliia (9/5): Amazing view and snorkeling right near the hotel - The view from the room is simply the best! The room itself is nice and spacious. I like that everything was clean and simple. The staff is great, the restaurant is very good.
You can snorkel right from the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay very much! The only problem I encountered was the water pressure in the shower, but I could manage even with long hair.
- Tom (10/5): Great Staff - Location and staff
- James (8/5): Stay was nice, I liked the fact that this was a smaller facility. - Food was great, staff was great. View was great from the room! Rooms were not very sound proof, you could hear your neighbors very clearly, was woken up early every morning to the sounds of air tanks banging together. The pool needed some serious attention, paint was peeling very badly.
- James (9/5): We love staying here. The staff are very welcoming and the hotel is small and cozy - Beautiful view, great staff, intimate, nice pool.
- BMuskwa (10/5): Cozumel is everything they say and the Blue Angel Resort delivers a very good place to call home for a bit - I am a professional scuba diver and my wife doesn’t dive due to sea sickness. So as we married people do, we find a compromise. Blue Angel resort is the perfect place. Right on the ocean and a pool as well. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel welcomed, all the time. The scuba dive staff are also very professional and very good at what they do. Now, here is the secret of the place…the Chef is exceptional! Never saw them or met them but what came out of the kitchen was well presented and very delicious.
The hotel is well kept and if it is broken or not working, it gets repaired or replaced. The AC was perfect, the beds were comfortable and they even had pillows that quite adequate!
You are the perfect distance between cruise ship ports that you avoid the thousands that pour off those ships. I highly recommend to rent a jeep for the day and cruise to the breezy side of the island…about 100$ with everything in…the hotel staff arranged this for us. There was a young lady by the name of Sylvia who sang there a few nights…she is exceptionally talented!
- Liudmila (10/5): -
- Kreuff (8/5): 4/5, would stay again! Great balcony views, great dive shop. Some street noise. - 4/5, would stay again! 3rd time on Cozumel, 1st time in this hotel.
Super friendly staff, very good dive shop, excellent breakfast included in the room rate and balcony views which are just stunning! I also really, really enjoyed just being able to walk directly from the breakfast, down past the dive shop and on to the boats, where your diving gear would be waiting for you. Good and fast dive boats, although 2 out of the 3 were small with no bathroom facilities, if that's important to you. Good dive masters!
The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are what I would call OK by local standards (although I really wish they would allow you to flush the used toilet paper, yuck!) and with reasonable water pressure and hot water most of the time.
The walk to the downtown area of San Miguel is about 15 minutes or 150 pesos in a taxi, and the taxis are plentiful. The live music in the evening (3 days/week) was of very high standard. The garden is nice and the pool (mostly used for divers' training) area is a great place to lounge about with a drink from the bar, enjoying the sunsets. The best rooms are probably in the x03-05 range on the 3rd and 4th floor, as those are away from the lobby/garden "elevator" music (why not turn that off?) and have less street noise, allowing one to fully appreciate the sounds of wind in the palms and surf on the pier. We asked to be moved from the 2nd floor to one of the upper floors, and staff were very kind to accomodate that without any fuss. Also by chance met the owner of the place, and she spontaneously offered us lunch in the restaurant, which was great!
However, with that said, there is also quite some room for improvement. The rooms are indeed dated (and the electrical outlets are in particular quite dodgy & SUPER-dirty!) and there is quite some street noise. When the hotel undergoes renovation in the hopefully not-too-distant future, then I would very strongly recommend that sound-proof doors towards the street be installed. Along the same lines, the x06 rooms at the end of the building and towards the small shipyard would benefit immensely from some fencework up against the yard building, for some sound mitigation to dampen street noise.
- BoardingPass729544 (6/5): Not a returning customer - We stayed at Blue Angel for Diving, which we enjoyed the dive leader Andy and the Boat people. The dive shop people are not very accommodating, we were unable to dive on Thursday due to illness, and they would not allow us to switch to Friday or give a refund. The hotel itself and staff is disappointing. Most days you would see the staff sitting around playing on their phones while the sitting area in the lobby is in disarray chairs stacked, cushions a mess, clean lines stacked on the couches. dirty dishes stacked up, water container empty. There was a coke bottle on the side of the steps the entire week we were there. Lounge furniture by the pool legs broken laying there on the ground. Pool needs painting. In our room the outlets are hanging out of the wall 303. looks like black mold on the ceiling and above the air conditioner.
- 266erico (10/5): 10th Anniversary heaven - The best way to spend our 10th Anniversary. The room was excellent. The food is superb. We arrived on Monday ,enjoyed live music on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
- CajunGato (10/5): Love Blue Ángel - I love the staff here, very friendly and kind and helpful. I do shore dives here. The place is always clean and well maintained. They have a dive gear area to setup and it’s perfect. Lots of creatures to see. I have been going there for the last 10 years since I have been living here. I love to take my time and look while diving.
- Discover24808720904 (10/5): - great live entertainment !! The Friday night and Saturday night bands and singers were excellent and the Buffalo wings are just like back home
- Trip14591658632 (10/5): Dinner at Blue Angel - The Blue Angel Resort, on Melgar, just south of downtown.
This morning, I am asking myself how I've spent so much time on this lovely island, over so many years, and NEVER been at Blue Angel Resort until last night!
Honestly, I've walked past many times, and poked my head in- curious, liking everything I see in those quick glances, but intimidated by the sign about "for resort guests only'. I was afraid that meant the lovely garden and well- reviewed restaurant were off limits.
NOT SO!!
I was tempted by ads regarding one of our favorite bands, Smooth Cats. So, we walked down, marched our anxious little tushes right up to the front desk, and asked if reservations were required for dinner. And that's when Eva's exceptional staff began to show us just how welcome, and well cared for, ALL guests (not just resort residents) at Blue Angel actually are!
We were told the restaurant was open, and given the option to sit near the band in the garden, or in the upstairs restaurant. We had our choice of garden tables, and immediate, friendly service, in both Spanish and English. I loved everything about the ambience right from the start!
The STAFF- attentive, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Never overbearing or intrusive. I can't say enough good things about the quality of service.
The FOOD- omg...just look at the photos! I promise, it tasted even better than it looks. We ordered a burger with onion rings and a loaded baked potato. I should point out that I do NOT eat much beef, and especially not hamburger, in the US. It always causes ... *ahem* unpleasant issues... for me. But I DO LOVE a good burger, so when I come to Cozumel, I indulge. And I have found my new favorite burger on the island! I ordered it medium, because I've found most places tend to rush your food out and medium rare is usually a bit _too_ rare. NOT here. Our order was perfectly prepared, medium, and next time I'll order medium rare. You have to watch the impressive cheese pull video on this post...it's insane. I swear they use a half pound of both meat AND cheese on every burger. And it's such good quality!
I'm typically hesitant about ordering onion rings- I love them, but I'm always disappointed by them (everywhere). Too much breading (only batter dipped is worth eating IMHO) or lacking real onion flavor. Or, worst of all...soggy. Well, ORDER the Onion Rings! They were perfectly battered, fresh, and tender-but-hefty slices of real onion. So fresh and crispy you have to wait to touch them. No sad, soggy, rings here! The loaded baked potato was perfectly done, with that wonderful jacket -potato flavor that's so hard to find. The beef on top appeared dry to me, but I was wrong. It was tender, tasty, and a great balance of flavors with all the usual toppings.
Portions are extremely generous. We'll be eating leftovers. I usually bring my own containers, but eco-friendly to go boxes were provided. (Thanks for respecting the environment, Blue Angel!) Update- we went back and had Tempura Shrimp with risotto. It was phenomenal!
The VIBE- Blue Angel has atmosphere down to a fine art. Eva (the owner), said "We're not fancy." No, not at all fancy if you mean that in a pretentious, off- putting sense. We were dressed quite casually and felt perfectly at home. But the garden was lovely, the cleanliness and overall presentation, appearance and comfort were absolutely stellar. It felt like a high end private party, without all the pomp & fussiness. That fine balance between comfort and elegance is difficult to achieve, but flawlessly accomplished here.
Entertainment- the band was (as always) talented, engaging, and just plain FUN! Smooth Cats play here on Saturdays and Tuesdays, early enough to let resort guests sleep (morning dives require a good night's rest) but perfect for dinner plans or an early evening (because yes, I am old). The resort is close enough to downtown that you can taxi to late night parties in just a few minutes, for a very few dollars.
I want to mention Eva Kristine, the owner. She is on site, involved, mingling and overseeing the whole operation. Say hello when you see her, and you'll leave with a new friend!
I did a quick 'Sunset at Blue Angel Resort' vibe video, and a longer 'walk up & through' video for those of you with questions about visiting the resort and restaurant. I hope it gives you an idea of how nice our evening was. Sunsets are gorgeous every where on the malecon, but this is a truly relaxing and happy setting for watching them. (Music in the videos is by The Smooth Cats; I just got lucky with timing.)
- rpscuba (6/5): The magic is gone. - The magic is gone. This was our third and, alas, final visit to stay here. The motel has gone downhill. The place needs a complete refresh. Everything feels grimy and old. What had been a basic, charming place is now a dumpy motel. The desk staff were uninterested in us at best. The dive shop and restaurant are still good and deserve 5 stars. That's why I'm giving 3 stars to the overall experience.
- Wesley (10/5): - Everything.
- T7553LQgaryr (2/5): Refusal to Refund Money Due to Cancelation - Be very careful about booking with Blue Angel. My first trip with them (years ago) was very good so I decided to return to Cozumel and dive with them with my spouse. I made the reservation and was required to put down $700+ to complete the reservation. However, my wife was denied a visa (she is Brasilian and had to have a visa) so we had to cancel the trip. Despite contacting Blue Angel 2 weeks in advance, they refused to refund my money. If it was $50 or $100 I wouldn't have a problem with it. But when it's over $700, I let them know 2 weeks in advance, and it was thru no fault of mine, this is not acceptable. If they even offered to refund a portion of my money, I could accept that, but they would not do that either.
- Jason (10/5): - It was exactly what we were looking for. Beachfront. Breakfast was good. Pool was perfect size to cool off and hang out in. Really enjoyed our stay.
- Julie (8/5): - Friendly staff and clean rooms.
- Arnold (8/5): - As a scuba diver this property is perfect. Has a dock for dive boats, you can do a shallow water dive right off the dock and dive shop on property. The entire staff of the hotel, restaurant and dive shop were fantastic. The property is a little run down but it did not bother me or my wife. Room were clean and comfortable.
- Shelley Leona (8/5): - Property is in a convenient location to amenities and activities. All rooms have an ocean view. Restaurant serves good food. Good entertainment in the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful. Street noise is loud throughout the day, improves overnight and starts again early in morning with loading of the scuba cylinders.
- Angelamontana82 (6/5): So so visit this year… - We really enjoyed the restaurant! Armando, Sergio, Carlos, Ellie and Valentina have top notch service!! The food was excellent as well. We were, however, quite disappointed by the front desk staff! The WiFi was down pretty much our entire 11 day stay, the roof in my parents room leaked in several spots to the point their bed was wet! No compensation was made or any attempt to fix the roof even though rain was expected again. Our maid was also so wonderful and helpful! We really do love the Blue Angel, but were left feeling let down by our most recent stay. I do believe the front desk staff could spend less time on their phones and more time working on their customer service.
- R-diver (8/5): Blue Angel Resort-a dive Resort - A few earlier reviews were pretty scary and our dive group of 12 were a bit anxious headed down to Cozumel. It turned out that all 12 felt the resort was fine, not close to luxury, but fine. Let's start with the accommodations which seemed to create the most negativity recently. Four important things met our needs: Large room, comfortable bed, hot water from 8:00 am to around 6 pm when it seemed to cool off, and the room was clean. Also, all lamps, chairs, couches, safe and wi-fi worked and were useful. It certainly could use updating and a revitalization, but we all thought it was just fine for a dive trip. The resort staff were friendly and accommodating whenever asked for something.
The most important to our group: the dive shop and dive schedule. Because we were 12, we had our own boat and asked for a 9 am departure for our morning 2 tank trip and a 3:30ish departure for our afternoon one tank trip. The dive shop staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a valet service by which they take your equipment (whatever you want them to take) from the shop to the boat and back again. They rinse your equipment and lock it over night in their locker room We all chose to give them our BCDs, regs and fins. We carried our wet suits, hoods, boots, socks, computers and mask, rinsed them ourselves, and hung them either outside on very spacious hanging bars or on our balconies and took our masks and computers up to our rooms. Worked great all week.
Dive guides, boat staff and captain were helpful and accommodating to our requests for dive sites. Aside from one trip north of town for eagle rays we focused on the far southern sites because those structures were just beautiful. We were lucky to have sun all week and very good to amazing visibility. We were asked to begin our accent for our safety stop at 58 minutes which made the total dive usually 63-65 minutes.
All in all, wonderful diving...... knowing this was not Southeast Asia.
Finally, the restaurant: Breakfast is included and the group was pleased with the choices and the quality. Spouse and I loved the eggs and the French Toast. We always had lunch at the restaurant and it was good. Again, good choices. Tortilla soup and the quesadillas were the group's favorites. Dinner is the same as lunch and we ate other places in town or just across the street a few nights. We really like the staff as well. Worked hard for us.
So, why so long a review? A few prior reviews really slammed BA. If I had their experience, I would too. But none of our group did and we knew we were going to a dive resort where the dive shop and the restaurant were the reasons to go and the rooms was just to sleep and shower in.
If you know the accommodations are what they are, you'll really have a great time.
- Roberts (9/5): Superb -
- J6355LWdougw (2/5): Stay Anywhere Else! - Never written a review, but this was the worst hotel experience. The entire hotel is right on the road. The walls and doors are paper thin. All night you hear motorbikes, trash trucks, and scuba tanks being delivered, good luck sleeping. The smell of sewage permeates the one restaurant from the outhouse below. At night there was a horrible local singer blasting right at the rooms. He sang vulgar songs about getting high pretty sexual stuff. As a dad on vacation with a 14yr old daughter, it wasn’t appreciated. The hotel refused to refund money when we left day 3 after paying for 9. I will NEVER stay there again. Rooms had exposed wires running through the shower. Cant flush toilet paper. Water didn’t get hot, roaches in the room, door had a giant airgap at the bottom.
- Garett (10/5): Fabulous quaint ocean view hotel - The Blue Angel was perfect for us… the view of the ocean and sunsets from the balconie was supremely beautiful…. Included Breakfast was great!!! Eggs Benny or Pancakes or half papaya filled with other fruit cottage cheese….. we also took advantage of daily 2 for 1 happy hour… we also snorkled right at thre hotel and that was very cool too… lots of fish, some coral and even lots of sea urchins…would definitely recommend this place… 👍🏝️
- jefflR9834YV (4/5): Great Dive Shop staff terrible motel - Oh, where do I even begin with the Blue Angel Dive Shop in Cozumel? It was simply magnificent! The staff and dive masters were like a ray of sunshine, making diving feel like a party in the water. Now, let’s talk about the Blue Angel Motel that’s attached—what a gem! Built in the glorious year of 1980, it boasts all the charm of a time capsule, complete with a delightful lack of elevators.
The rooms? Oh, they’re just the perfect shade of dimly lit, with furniture that screams “vintage” and a bed that has a fragrance reminiscent of something you’d find in a forgotten corner of a thrift store. And the TV? Ah yes, a true conversation piece that doesn’t work, because who needs entertainment when you have the symphony of low water pressure and five-minute waits for hot water?
The location is just to die for—right on a major highway, serenaded by the soothing sounds of island scooters, motorcycles, and the delightful clanking of tanks. If you’re a light sleeper, well, let’s just say you might want to bring earplugs—or better yet, a soundproof bunker!
When we dared to share our thoughts with the owner, Eva Rasmussen, she greeted us with the kind of rudeness that really makes you feel special. So, my friends, I wholeheartedly recommend the dive shop, but as for staying at the motel? Let’s just say it’s best to look elsewhere. Do check out the photos—they really do capture the essence of the experience!
- H (10/5): - Love the staff and snorkeling onsite. The beds though are way overdue for an upgrade
- maggiehK8402EK (4/5): We slept on peed urine filled sheets. Horrible owner full of excuses - At night I smelled a horrible oder, in the morning I pulled back the sheets and the smell was pungent/disgusting. Urine!
The mattress was just as smelly
The owner called us liars instead of simply apologizing.
One waiter was exceptionally rude
- Eileen Casella (10/5): - Great space for divers.
- Gary (10/5): - A repeat visit to this small cozy and friendly hotel. Convenient small restaurant and nice dive operation. Did not like price of check-out dive of $110 for well-experienced divers who were past customers. Hotel appears to be "tired" and in need of renovation. Excellent room however.
- Graeme (10/5): We keep coming back! - We love Cozumel and have been there probably 12 or 13 times. On our third trip we found this hotel. Ever since, we have always made sure to find availability at Blue Angel before booking travel.
It is perfect for divers, and that is why we love it.
- George (8/5): - Small dive resort. Clean, good food, great dive boats and a great vibe
- Barry (8/5): - The kitchen was being remodeled when we first got there. So they were serving everything out of a tent on the grass next to the pool. All the grass was wore out, and it was very muddy was the only real issue. The restaurant food was fantastic.
- Lisa (10/5): - This property is set up for divers. We especially loved the option to shore dive independently and did several excellent night dives. Boat diving was also great and we were well looked after by all staff working with the dive shop.
The food was varied and excellent. Again, all staff were fabulous and made our stay very comfortable. The live music was also great.
The rooms are a little tired but if your focus is on diving it really isn’t an issue. They are very spacious and we loved having a view of the sea. If you are particularly sensitive to noise bring earplugs as you can hear the road a bit.
We will stay again. Highly recommend.
- Gary A (10/5): - Good staff, good dive shop and great food!
- Marty (10/5): - Amazing staff and property!
- janet (10/5): - We love Blue Angel. Best sunsets right from your balcony. Staff is extremely friendly.
- U5718TOkevind (2/5): Terrible customer service, dirty, non working Air con. Refusing refund. - I cannot understand how this place has such stellar reviews. It sucks. This is a dirty rundown hotel with barely working air conditioner. Customer service from the front desk is awful, so much so that I just checked out and went to scuba club, they were friendly, the room is nicer and it’s cheaper. Blue Angel refused to give me back my $900 deposit dispute pending with PayPal again, I have no idea how they have such great reviews but I would definitely avoid blue Angel di resort again Cozumel.
- jacek (10/5): - Exception of you from your balcony Will be back soon
- Hortencia (10/5): Stay there every time I go -
- cgmanuel (10/5): Recommend Blue Angel Resort! - We are frequent guests (starting in 1981) and travel with our now 96 year young Mom. We have grown close to the current owner. And remain close to the original owner that still lives on the island. We feel comfortable there, and the staff makes us feel as though we are family. No request is too large. And our requests are few as they meet most very need without asking.
- Laura (10/5): - Great spot for diving!! Very accommodating staff, fantastic restaurant with live music, and great dive shop at the resort! Even in heavy rains, we got in some incredible dives of the local reefs. You feel like family in a great community of divers! We'll be back!
- DoctorDerm1 (10/5): Wonderful dive resort - This place is meant for divers. If you are looking for a beach resort, keep looking. It caters to divers. We stayed for 6 days. When we first arrived we checked in with the adjoining dive shop and dropped off our equipment. They have an included valet service in which every morning they bring all your dive equipment to the boat for your included 2 boat dives. The crew sets everything up and switches tanks. We felt pampered. Nitros is available for $10 a tank extra.
Happy hour is from 4:00pm to 6:30pm in the adjoining restaurant which is upstairs overlooking the ocean as you watch the sun set. The food is awesome with very ample portions. Every evening they have live music around the pool area.
Rooms are rustic themed, very clean and comfortable beds. All have private balcony’s overlooking the ocean. WiFi is excellent, much better than many hotels I’ve stayed with.
The center of town is about a 2km walk, but taxi’s are cheap and plentiful.
- Marlin1978 (10/5): A gem of a dive hotel! - An absolute diving gem! My dive partner and I spent a week here and dove four am two tank dives and well as a cenote day that was arranged by the dive shop. First off let me tell you the dive operation is outstanding all around. Secondly the food at the onsite restaurant is incredible. We had breakfast included in our stay but all the meals were fantastic. The front desk staff and housekeeping are fantastic, so kind and accommodating. We used the front desk to rent a Jeep to drive around to the wild side of the island. The pool was nice, hardly ever had anyone in it when we were there. Being able to shore dive at any time is a huge plus. Just let the dive center know and they will leave tanks out after they close. The rooms could use a little maintenance but honestly it’s nothing major, it has everything you could need. They provide jugs in your room to carry down to the water cooler at the end of each hallway so you can have filtered water in the bathroom. The balconies have a beautiful view of the ocean and on night when they have the stellar entertainment on the beach, you can sit on your balcony and watch if you can’t get a seat on the beach. This place truly blew me away with the amount of perks it has. Eat, sleep and dive away here!
- Susan (7/5): We enjoyed our stay but it’s more expensive than it used to be, and it hasn’t been updated at all - The only reason I go there is because the dive shop staff is excellent. I’ve been going there for years and the rooms need some serious upgrading.
- Byron A. (6/5): - The property was a charming Mexican hotel, not a Ramada Inn. No elevator, no fancy bathroom fixtures, no fancy bath amenities. This was the hotel's charm. The surprise was the restaurant. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding, in fact, the restaurant was impressive all day. Lofs of steps with no elevator. No beach there or near by.
- 799LoneRanger4 (10/5): Great Place to Relax and SCUBA dive - A very relaxing and enjoyable diving vacation. We had a great time at Blue Angel Resort and found the staff to be the jewel of the experience. Our room had a rustic appeal that we favor when traveling to Mexico. The restaurant serves a great breakfast and savory dinners. We used the Resort's diving service: Blue Angel Diving and Scuba School [B.A.D.A.S.S.] for our diving, and their dive guides are professional and very knowledgeable of the local reefs.
- greg (10/5): - Great for diving. Dive shop and boats on location. Restaurant menu was diverse and delicious. Dive guides were exceptional.
- Trek48021241623 (10/5): Excellent location for beginner intermediate divers - This is probably the ideal dive resort for beginner to intermediate divers. The dive masters are very knowledgeable, and patient with novice divers, and the diving is extremely pleasant. The boats are well operated. If you were a complete novice, they have a good training area and multiple departures that can accommodate your level of experience. The rooms are not luxurious, but more than adequate for the average diver, and the where, in tear that we put on. Accommodation with our equipment.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great small hotel with a restaurant and dive shop.
- Ron (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay and dive.
- Dave (6/5): - The property was fine, old school Mexico. Staff was fantastic, business of diving not so good. After going back and forth with both the front desk (front desk VERY responsive, that's a positive) and dive shop for a week and getting settled to dive w Blue Angel, I got an email from the Dive Shop Manager a week later telling me (because I had not had a dive since 2023, about six months) that I had to pick one ---- a. pay for a $110 USD class to refresh, b. Pay approx $100 USD for a private Dive Master or c. pay $400 for a private boat. I declined to dive with them, and instead we did our diving with Aldora which was great, and I didn't need a special class. We are experienced divers with advanced certifications and were offended by the money grab. However, to my surprise, the hotel charged me $10 a day for my wife and I to walk off the dock into the Aldora dive boat. This was no where in the contract or the Blue Angel website. I thought it was tacky. But to Blue Angel's defense, the hotel manager wiped the charges off the bill. Thanks greatly to him for his quick reaction and great customer service. All in all, OK property and definitely only for divers. Some complain about beds, road noise and tanks clanking around early morning, we didn't notice. Put a beach towel on the floor behind your door, it does the trick. Beds just fine, it's a dive property, there are going to be clanging tanks.....deal with it. Many thanks to the staff of the restaurant and front desk.
- timothy (10/5): - Ocean front
- joanne (8/5): - Great staff and excellent dive company on premises! No frills... but great food and people!
- wendy (10/5): - I absolutely love the Blue Angel. They have the nicest little restaurant with live entertainment that you can even watch from your balcony. Staff is amazing and the location is perfect. Just far enough away from the cruise ships.
- Amy (10/5): - Great place to hang for a couple days! Great food and sometimes has music on site.
Wake up, put snorkel gear on and explore! Have diving boats, but we didn't partake in that. Boat traffic can be heavy - so bring a bouy.
- Jenny (9/5): Good value for the price - The location was great — central but out of the busy downtown area — with snorkeling and diving right on the hotel grounds (no beach or sandy entry points though). Great view from the balcony in our room. The restaurant on site was very good — good food and great live music on the night we were there and most nights as I understand it. Tasty breakfast a la carte (not a continental or buffet) was included in the price of our stay. Beautiful sunsets. The room and bathroom were clean and functional but older. Beds were comfortable but it would be nice to have more than one pillow per person.
- craigwS1161TH (2/5): Great in the Travel Photos, however.... - I've been hesitating writing this review. I didn't want it to harm the employees of the resort which are great.
I'm not sure who's writing these reviews, but the resort is a dump: My room had gouges in the cement floor, the balcony was crumbling, the upholstered chair in the room was torn. a lot. There was no hot or warm water in my room (after letting it run for 8 minutes on an island were we're to conserve fresh water), and the room was dirty. Go to Scuba Club and have a much, much better experience. I left after one day as I had planned to stay 2 weeks, and of course, the owner would not give me any refund what-so-ever (policy, of course).
- carlycB9978IA (10/5): Lovely & Simple - My teenage kids and I are just returning from 6 nights at Blue Angel scuba diving. It was quite wonderful. Julio was amazing with my daughter who did the open water part of her certification. Alfredo took care of our gear with such precision. We were all so impressed! I would highly recommend Julio to anyone who does any certifications. He is patient, kind and encouraging. Adriana was also wonderful. The rooms were simple. If you need quiet there is street noise, but it didn't impact the trip. The food was wonderful and wait staff could not have been friendlier. I would recommend bringing cash as it wasn't clear there was a discount when using it and it's better to have cash all around. The people that Blue Angel attracts are really down to earth which was also fantastic. The dive shop was great and all the dive masters were wonderful.
- David (10/5): Perfect location and perfect ocean views. Would recommend Blue Angel to anyone looking for a great vacation. - So great having a restaurant 50 feet away. Exceptional food. 10/10 Rooms are a little dated but very clean.
No complaints, everything was working perfectly.
- Lori (6/5): - The grounds and music and restaurant was very nice. The room smelled moldy and was very run down
- NeenTahoe (10/5): New favorite in Cozumel - Currently styling at Blue Angel and absolutely have a new favorite spot in Cozumel. Staff is incredibly friendly, food in the restaurant is excellent and dive crew was professional and fun! First stay here but most definitely not our last!
- K9321VKdanb (6/5): Reasonable at best.... But pricey. - Well, the hotel is rather run down and in need of a refresh. The rooms are old school and kinda, we'll not dirty, but certainly stained. I wouldn't have minded, but they charged an excessive daily amount. Yeah, reasonable sea view, quant little bar/restaurant, and diving boats loading guests right from their dock. Staff was reasonable with only a few abrasive encounters. If you're a diver, sure, if not.... Well, there's plenty less expensive places to check out.
- Kathleen (10/5): - I love Blue Angel Resort. The onsite restaurant is amazing, and breakfast is included (also amazing). Excellent onsite diving available. Loved the ocean view.
- Verena (9/5): Superb - Friendly cute place and with a great view. Everyone was very friendly and helpful A bit noisy from the street and the beds were not so comfortable (but that's personal taste).
- Floyd (10/5): - I will definitely stay here again. This boutique hotel is convenient to town and the staff was awesome! All rooms are direct ocean views and great entertainment.
- Adrian (6/5): Blue Angel is tolerable, but not much more than that. - Convenient location for dive shop pickup. Inexpensive. Staff friendly. Restaurant mostly quite good. Rooms badly need updating and general maintenance. Grimy in places Grounds are poorly maintained.
- JANET (10/5): - We love the location and every room has a balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean.
- KLAUS (6/5): Beautiful views, very loud street noise. - Very nice view, right on the water. A bit out of the way from town. Large rooms. Food was ok. All a la carte, no buffet. Snorkeling in front of the resort. 5 days a week live music. Biggest problem is the street noise. It’s right on the only street to the south. Very loud. No noise abatement of the building. Doors don’t seal out the noise and the bathroom windows are always open.
- Denise (4/5): Great hotel and restaurant, dive shop leaves a lot to be desired - The hotel was clean and comfortable and the breakfast service and food were excellent. Views from the rooms and balconies are classic tropical sea views. The days I went out on a boat--one dive and one snorkel trip--the freelance staff (especially the dive instructor Marcus and the snorkel guide George) were excellent. A huge disappointment: the dive shop does not accommodate snorkelers-or divers-that well. When I booked, I specifically inquired about snorkeling from the boats, and they responded by asking me to let them know when I wanted to go. I did. They never got back to me. When I arrived I was told that the dive boats were full--they only use a large boat some days--and I had only one opportunity to go out and snorkel from the boat. Their diving doesn't appear to be much better organized. I waited an hour on the dive boat while another party had to prove that they already paid for their dives-they were not happy either. And after I tried diving, I had three days before leaving to get certified, but the dive shop manager had already told me the boats were full.
- Nancy (8/5): - This place is nice but definitely a "dive" hotel. It is clean and has everything you need but is very basic. For the positives, it has it's own dive shop and restaurant and every room has a nice balcony overlooking the water. The restaurant is very good and the waitstaff are all amazing ! I will say the happy hour drinks are noticeably not as good as the regular drinks. They had live music but it could be a little loud. Luckily it didn't go late. The front desk staff were not overly enthusiastic except for Carol who was a bright spot wherever she was on a given day. The dive shop was convenient but a couple of the dive masters were a little lazy if you had an issue underwater. I had to swim back to the boat for additional weight when usually they carry some for that purpose. And, other things as well. They also rescheduled our dive without telling us which meant we got up super early for no reason. That was extremely annoying. I also had a gauge that wasn't working and even though I pointed it out, they gave me the same set up the next day. The hotel could use some TLC. I think it's the same paint job since I was there in 2015 and it wasn't new then. The hot water sometimes takes a LONG time to get to the room and the acoustics are not great. They unloaded dive tanks every morning around 6am and it sounded like they were in our room ! Overall, if you know what to expect it's not a bad place.
- Peter (10/5): - I like their combination of being a hotel with dive shop and restaurant, it's all in one. Being on the ocean front the dive boats come right to you. Their dive masters know the all the reefs. Then there is the music entertainment at night, top notch music. Location is great, just south of downtown Cozumel so can get too Mega and the other stores very easily. The ocean view and sunset, you have to see it for yourself, words are not enough. If you're not a diver don't worry you will still have at Blue Angel with doing lots of fun activities Cozumel offers.
- Suzanne M (10/5): The best! - So welcoming, so lovely!
The staff go above and beyond to help with heavy bags and your every need.
Sylvia is so good and so much fun on Wednesdays and Fridays.
- Carolyn (8/5): - Great setting, friendly staff. Great food! Sewer odor by entrance and lobby area. AC broke and suffered a hot night w little sleep.
- Tom (10/5): - We had an enjoyable week at Blue Angel. The staff were awesome and the food was good. This is not a 5 star location and don't expect nice rooms. If you are into a rustic environment with good snorkeling right off the property and hard working employees, this is a good place to be. It will be a bit noisy from road traffic. You are about a mile walk to San Miguel and the tourist stuff, boat people. Overall we had a great time and you will to with the right expectations.
- Patricia (10/5): Amazing for sure! - Amazing place for sure. Great service and food as well as comfortable bed and room. Location is also nice as we were able to walk into town.
- Paul (8/5): - The staff was remarkable, the cafe food was good, and the staff was attentive. Rooms were clean and each room had a balcony that overlooked the ocean. Dive operations were well run, and the location was conducive to introductory-type shore dives.
I had a little issue with the hot water for a few days, but we made due.
We would stay there again.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Pros:
the ocean at your front door.
Wonderful staff and amazing food.
Care about the environment
Dive shop on property
Short drive or 30 min walk to downtown
Live entertainment most nights
Like a family, very friendly
Perfect view of sunset every night
Cons:
Street noise. (If light sleeper, bring ear plugs)
We loved our stay and will go back. Eva, the owner, is lovely and goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome.
- michael (8/5): - This place is great except for the shower . Very little water pressure n a hit or miss on getting hot water
- Bruce (10/5): - Good locatio, great staff, restraunt was good, great place to relax ,dive good and close to do something in town.
Dive shop on site and picked up at tge dock ,all easy peasy!
Thanks
Will be back for sure!
- scott (10/5): - This was our first trip to Cozumel and we can't imagine a more pleasing experience! The property has great snorkeling right off the dock just behind the hotel. I saw octopus, morays, stingrays, and lots of fish. The hotel is smaller (only about 25 rooms), so it's not heavily crowded. There is a dive shop on site with dives leaving from the hotel dock most days. The staff is great, and very friendly. We had one person leave atheir phone in a taxi and the desk staff went out of their way to check security footage, get the taxi number and then contact them to return the phone. Really went the extra mile. Breakfast is included in the room price which was super reasonable. And breakfast was great with large portions. We rarely needed to eat lunch at all while out doing excursions. I really like the eggs Benedict! The one thing you may want to know is that they participate in an ecoprogram, so no toilet paper goes in the toilet! Small cost to help save the reef! We will definately be returning here again!!
- Kirsten (6/5): - we waited for 45 minutes for a drink and guacamole on our anniversary while they had an extra 70 people there for the live entertainment and 3 waiters that totally ignored the people actually staying at the hotel
- Heston (8/5): - Our stay here was a lot of fun and we especially appreciated Armando and Sergio. The only downfall to this place it was pretty noisy and the walls were thin. The food was amazing and the staff went above and beyond.
- David (8/5): - Good stay, even with days of rain. Staff overall & Blue Angel restaurant were great!
- Daniel (10/5): - Great location. Good food. Good snorkeling right in front. Staff in restaurant was awesome. Free breakfast snd drinks very reasonably priced. Will definitely stay again.
- Gina (6/5): - The rooms were nice, and the restaurant was wonderful. Loved our balcony for the sunset view. Noise was the problem: street noise (expected) but OMG the dive bottles. The dive shop was super busy and bottles were delivered, staged and moved starting at 5 a.m. for 2 hours.
- Kert (8/5): A bit of paradise - This is our second time here and it didn't disappoint. First, if you're looking for big resort conditions (Hilton, Westin, etc.) this isn't it. But most people should know that. If you're looking for a great affordable, comfortable place to stay, it's perfect. Having the restaurant/bar attached made it great. Food and beverages were great and affordable. They had poolside service from the restaurant and the free Spanish lessons from the servers was awesome! They also had live music several nights we were there. Check-in and check-out were flawless and easy. The only possible negative is that it's a 1.5 mile walk to town and other shops/bars/restaurants (we love to walk so no big deal) but a cab ride is just $5 each way. We will definitely be back again.
- Peter (10/5): - the staff and owner make you feel at home
- Ryan (2/5): - The restaurant and staff were terrific. The rooms ac,tv,telephone all not working no water pressure in shower,no hot water, no response to our concerns not proactive to our needs
- Schelette (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful property. The ENTIRE staff were amazing and went above and beyond with hospitality. Mr Poncho, Sergio & the chef are amazing. Thanks guys
- BRADY LEE (8/5): - great free entertainment. was there 9 days and had bands play 4 of the nights. able to watch from our balcony
- Brian J (10/5): - The staff made our stay so enjoyable. Sergio and Pancho lico were awesome. Having tbe dive shop right on site was perfect. The room is basic, nothing fancy. comfortable beds. Nice pool. Great entertainment with live music at night. we will be back.
- Christina (10/5): - 🏆
- Christopher (10/5): - Gina, in the reception, was super nice and helpful
- Winsome (10/5): - The view was amazing, live entertainment every night, kitchen and hotel staff make you comfortable and relax, perfect vacation hotel.
- David (10/5): - The restaurant had the best food ever and good prices. I was so impressed I will return just for the food!! Nightly entertainment was great and atmosphere was cozy.
- connie (10/5): - Scuba and snorkeling trips from hotel with their own boat, restaurant with excellent meal choices, swimming pool very clean and big enough to swim short laps, short taxi trips to town.
- E. Daniel (10/5): - Staff was great divemasters were very professional Julio and Marco. Party snorkel trip was so much fun with Xavier and Edgar/Hector. Restaurant food was excellent maybe a daily special might b added. A little btr quality in nath towels and sheets wud b nice along with fans for the room.
