Menu and Food was very good and well portioned.
- Pauline (10/5): Nice stay - We had a nice stay, on arrival taken straight to our room by a very nice young man who helped with our bags, the room was nice with a lovely outlook. Overall every where clean good food and very nice staff.
- graham (10/5): NEW YEAR in Thropton - Nice big warm room Freindly Staff good food lovely old northumberland hotel
- Paul (10/5): Great place to stay. I would definitely return! - Lovely stay. Food was excellent, both in the evening and at breakfast. The full english was very plentiful.
We had a family room and it did get very hot however. We turned the heating off completely but it was switched back on again when we went out for the day. On a freezing cold day this will be very welcoming but the temperature was very mild for the time of year so we didn't need the heating!
- Vincent (10/5): Friendly staff and superb location - Great little inn in the heart of the beautiful Northumberland landscape. The owners and staff were ever so friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing! Rooms could do with a bit of a refurb but the owners have only just taken over the property and are planning to modernise very soon. Everything worked though, and we had a very comfortable stay. The view from the room was also to die for!
- DM (10/5): Excellent choice - Lovely setting in quiet village. Lovely owners, great set of staff who do their utmost to ensure yourbest possible stay. Excellent food with great choice. Only downside was rooms a little dated. On saying that everything worked and without doubt clean. Would definitely stay again
- Mark W (10/5): A great place to pause. - Friendly welcome. Clean fresh room. Superb food at very reasonable prices. Lovely breakfast. Beautiful views from the garden.
- Matthew (10/5): Fantastic food abs great for families - What a gem of a place. We stayed in a family room and enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Fantastic views from no the beer garden at the rear of the hotel and the food is amazing and well priced. Very friendly staff and a great location to explore Northumbria
- Louise (8/5): - Stunning views from outside beer garden. Slight negative, Room 5 is above kitchen so smells came in room if window left open.
- Graham (8/5): Quiet break. - Nice place to stay. Good room, good service, good food and terrific views.
- graham (10/5): Seeing in the new year in Thropton - New Year’s Eve stay. Lovely room lovely food lovely staff lovely views only trouble was I was full of flu not lovely. Will definitely return to take full advantage of the area
- Lou (10/5): Great for food and a base for hiking. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meals were really good and not expensive. There are some excellent walks straight from the the hotel and beautiful views over the garden to the Simonside Hills beyond the river. Nothing much else in Thropton, but Rothbury (2 miles) is a nice market town with a great pub (Narrow Nick).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was a very nice, old-style inn over the pub and restaurant. The restaurant and beer garden were charming. Dealing with the staff was simple and straightforward.
- John (10/5): The Three Wheat Heads - Great hotel - good value for money, great views and good food.
- Jayne (10/5): Hidden Gem - Lovely place to stay, the room was so cute and had a range of amenities. The view was lovely, the staff were helpful and friendly, and the food in the pub was great. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely staff. Quiet clean big room. Dog friendly tea/coffee making facilities with plenty of coffee tea milk. Good power shower.
- Clive (10/5): The Three Wheat Heads is Great! - No time for this, sorry. It was great. Phenomenal full English - the best I've ever had, I think.
- Peter (8/5): - Wonderful views location and service. The food was excellent.
- Peter (10/5): A 5 * Stay - Excellent! We arrived very tired and the warmth of the bedroom was like a welcoming blanket. The room was spacious and comfortable with two chairs for looking out onto the beautiful countryside. There was an amazing choice on both the breakfast and evening menus and the food was first class. Hospitality could not have been better and we will definitely be returning. Many thanks
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not an ideal business trip stop over. - Bad choice for Business no phone signal
Paid too much for a night, food not brilliant, had to change room as smelled musky, TV size of a post stamp. Best thing about the place was the staff especially Vicky, another plus beautiful location idea for walkers.
- Mark (8/5): What a view - Great food and very friendly staff. Room was good with a comfortable bed. The view out of the bedroom window was superb.
- keith s (10/5): very good - very good stay,cannot fault it
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing food views out of restaurant fantastic werey friendly stalf will be back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ideal for a short stay in Northumberland.
- Philippa (10/5): Great place to stay - Fabulous view from the hotel garden. Very friendly staff and excellent food, especially the cooked breakfast. Dogs were welcome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel good food lovely views - The only thing that let this hotel down was the dowdy room one wall was painted dark red and the carpet and bed coverings were in the same colour. The bulbs in the overhead light were not bright enough. Apart from that the bed, pillows and duvet (which was feather) were very comfortable.
- Neil (2/5): Hotelcom & Three wheat heads contempt for customer - We arrived at the hotel to be met with signs saying that the restaurant would be closed. The hotel could have informed us of this before we booked (we phoned the hotel on saturday) or phoned us before we arrived at the hotel but instead they chose to treat us with complete contempt. I would have cancelled the stay if I had not need to be in Rothsbury that evening. Obviously if I had known that the restaurant was closed I would not have booked the hotel and booked an hotel elsewhere. The stunning view from the room overlooked solar panels. The missing kitchen staff seemed to be in the room next to ours (room 5 ) as we could smell their smoke and hear the sound of the DVD they were watching in preference to working in the restaurant. The room was hot but opening the window just exposed our room to the noise of the kitchen refridgerators units and air conditioning. Irony : Kitchen staff cannot work in hotel kitchen because they are too busy smoking and watching DVDs in the room next to customer. Irony: Customer denied catering facilities but has to endure sound of kitchen fridges and air conditioning. The Three Wheat Heads is the worst hotel that I have stayed in, and I have stayed in some very basic hotels in Morocco such as in Essouria and Erg Chebby
- JACQUELINE (10/5): Excellent - Excellent food both at dinner and breakfast. Very helpful staff who work very hard to make your meals enjoyable. Room was clean and our request for sheets and blankets instead of duvets had been addressed. Bathroom was clean and had all amenities. Wash basin slightly worn but perfectly usable. Location excellent for Cragside, Alnwick Castle and Gardens etc. Beautiful view at back of beer garden. Have been before and will be back again.
- Anne (10/5): Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. - I spent a great 4 nights here. Staff were really helpful and friendly especially Jackie who served the breakfast. The room was lovely. Great shower and lots of hot water. Breakfast excellent. This is an absolutely great location and the rooms have a really stunning view. If I return to the area I would certainly stay at this hotel again.
- Robert (10/5): Best of Northumberland! - Do not expect to find this pub anywhere in or near Morpeth! The website seems unable to map the countryside! It is in THROPTON, which is a couple of miles from the rural market town of Rothbury. Beautiful area on edge of National Park, and an exceedingly welcoming and good value hostelry.
- Graeme (10/5): Excellent samll in with great food - Very nice room with well equipped bathroom (inc bath). Dog friendly as well! Great views across the valley. Very
friendly landlord, chef and staff. Excellent touring base.
The menu was large and varied and the food was excellent.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Enormous breakfasts, pleasant friendly staff. Very tired decor throughout, but you won't go hungry.
- CJ (10/5): Just the Job - Stayed 2 nights. Lovely room with beautiful views. Booked for dinner on the Friday night. Delicious food and wine. Breakfasts were just the same. Friendly staff too.
- HMC (8/5): Lovely pub. - Lovely position with great views. All the staff were super
Room very comfortable and beautifully looked after
Food very good with lots of choice. Nice to visit such a popular venue
- Malcolm (8/5): Hotel was very clean and the food was great - For a family room the en-suite was not really suitable for anyone small as the shower was too high.
The wash basin was very small. The toilet was raised up and made it too high.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Expedia bad, hotel good - Dear Expedia, you ruined my stay by not responding when I contacted you several times about my having accidentally booked for two when I was only one guest, which cost me a lot of money.
- Janice and Jim (10/5): Heart of the Nor. thunberland countryside - GOOD FROM START TO FINISH Nice place to relax Like a small place ,has more character as this old coaching house has
- jayne (10/5): Excellent base from the three wheats head - 3 nights stay, food was excellent, we ate there every night, reasonable price as well, the views from the restaurant are to die for and you just can't stop looking at them, remember this is a 300 year old building and we had the pleasure of staying there, wonderful walks as well bliss x
- JACQUELINE (8/5): Restaurant with rooms - Restaurant food was excellent.
- Alan (10/5): A very nice stay - A vegetarians delight with a choice of five different home prepared meals (for all you none vegetarians our choice is normally - no choice just select the single vegetarian option)
- fogswaldo (8/5): Lovely setting. - Lovely, relaxed stay. Very hard working and friendly staff. Nice room. Nice food. The draught lagers could do with an overhaul though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff, excellent food and great view from the room.
- michael (6/5): - Food was excellent, downstairs was really nice. Room 5 was cosy, but needs some updating, the shower cubicle was broken and was coming of the walls the view out of the window was great if you were lying on the bed, but standing up you get a nice view of the kitchen extractor pipe.Staff were very nice, and the breakfast was great. Would definitely stay again but as I said it needs some work up stairs in the rooms.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - very good resteraunt with an excilent choice of various dishes i had the rack of lamb and was very pleased with my choice, however my room was very cold even when i turned the radiator up to max, mind you it was early February but the onsuite was freezing
- simon (8/5): Good value - Great food, best English breakfast we've had in many years!
- Rachel (10/5): Brilliant food - We stayed in room 5. Lovely Snug room with a stunning view out the window. The breakfast was fabulous. Probably the best hotel breakfast we've had. We stayed for tea one night and would definitely eat there again. Brilliant pub food.
- Mrs Monica (10/5): Amazing countryside - had a lovely night stay. they fitted us in at last moment for a lovely meal. fab views from our bedroom window of hills and garden etc.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Amazing views - This pub suited our family while travelling, it was comfortable and the meals were good. Nice breakfasts included too.
- John (8/5): Rothbury locale - Great place to stay and visit local attractions.
Food was excellent as was service from all staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning views - Beautiful location, lovely room and staff, delicious wine and evening meal. We took our dog Sadie on her first holiday and we were made to so welcome with her. A relaxing and comfortable stay finished off with a tasty breakfast. Can't wait to go back.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Country pub in Thropton - lovely country pub - excellent food stunning location with a great vista.
- Kay (10/5): - wonderful view & fantastic food
- Keith (10/5): Great food with a Fatastic view - This was one of the best hotels that we have stayed at I have coeliac disease and the and the Chef catered for me without any problems I would recommend it to any one.
- Iain (10/5): A happy stay - A very enjoyable stay in an area with lovely scenery and good potential outings. The hotel was welcoming and the meals' choices excellent.
- Geoffrey (6/5): Short weekend break - Stayed for two nights. Basic room with usual facilities, en-suite bathroom could do with some work. Great views from the room and restaurant. Good food with a wide choice and ample portions, excellent breakfast. For a short stay whilst touring the area it met our needs. well positioned for enjoying the Northumberland countryside and attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect hotel - The hotel was in a lovely position the views from the bedroom was magnificent the staff were very friendly.
We also had a very nice meal in the restaurant.would definitely recommend this hotel
- elizabeth (8/5): Great Location - We were shown to room 2, at the back of the hotel, with lovely views over to the National park. We thought we had asked for a bath, but there were none available.the room was a good size, with a huge fireplace on one side, very smart decor. The best feature of this hotel , were the staff, who were friendly and helpful. The menu was large, with a page of specials, the best choice of veggie meals i have ever seen and they were imaginative dishes.Good portions and a good choice of real ales.Breakfast had plenty of choices, including veggie and great coffee.
It was a long way for us to travel, but would stay again if we did, not far to Alnwick castle and gardens, or the coast
- Eric (8/5): Three Wheatheads March 2015 - Just returned from 6 day break in Northumberland, staff and hotel more than exceeded our expectations. Food by George was absolutely superb and all the staff couldn't possibly do any more to make our stay really enoyable. We will be returning and would definately recommend the Three Wheatheads.
- world traveller (4/5): Good views - A catalogue of errors. If you are the only couple staying why would you have to be moved twice before a room was suitable and better when that room was available in the first place. First room, no shower. Second room door would not shut or lock. Third room tv not working but fixed next day. The whole pub needs decorating my wife said the carpet made her feel sick. Staff became friendly but it took a while.
