- FF5050 (6/5): Somethings missing- - My wife and I spent 15 days touring Switzerland via Copenhagen the first two weeks of October 2025. Our trip started in Copenhagen and ended in Copenhagen. For the Swiss portions of our trip, we went to Zürich, Grindelwald, Zermatt, and finally Montreux. Every place was stunning, making for a great trip. In each city, we stayed at hotels that have been rated as 5 Star properties from various sites. In Zürich, we stayed at the Widder Hotel, in Grindelwald-the Hotel Belvedere (a 4 star, but really a 4.5)-it was Great!, in Zermatt- The Cervo Mountain(Last place) and finally in Montreux - the Fairmont Montreux(just ok) Both times in Copenhagen we stayed at the Nimb Hotel. The best by the way!! I provide this to give context for my review about The Widder compared to this peer group of highly rated hotels. We ranked the Widder 3rd within this group. We stayed 2 nights. Location: 5 out of 5. The hotel itself is in the Old Town section of Zurich with plenty of shops and restaurants. The location was great, a good jumping point for touring Zurich. Room: 3.75 out of 5. The rooms in this hotel are unique and ours was good with exposed beams and was a decent size. It overlooked the street, which was nice. It was dark though even with the curtains open. The hotel provided a nice welcome gift which we appreciated. The bathroom was OK, compared to the other hotels, not the best. The shower has one of those half glass walls rather than being fully enclosed. Not a fan, as things can get a bit messy if you take showers. Not sure why they are still around in many of the hotels because it must be a pain for housekeeping. Fitness Center: 2 out of 5 I work out each day and was underwhelmed by the Fitness Center. Limited free weights and funky (useless) multi muscle group exercise machines that utilize rubber band like mechanisms Service and Staff: The door people and front desk welcoming and friendly. 5 out of 5. Breakfast: 5 out of 5. Was in two charming rooms. The staff were friendly and attentive. There was a nice collection of pastries, fruit etc. and good menu offerings. Concierge: 3 out of 5 The concierge was just ok. Each time we engaged with the concierge, 2 different people at 2 different times. They seemed distracted and rushed as if we were bothering them. They were simple requests. One of the suggestions sent us on a wild goose chase to the train station. So that was annoying. Restaurant: 1 out of 5 After a morning touring the city, we came back to the hotel and went into the restaurant, entering the restaurant via hotel lobby, to see if we could get a table and grab a bite. The restaurant was busy. The host Brusquely said to us “I won't be able to seat you for an hour outside” ….No greeting, no, how may help you etc. He then saw I had a room key and said” I’ll have the receptionist call you” then walked off. How are they going to call if they don’t know who to call? We didn’t even want to sit outside (it looked like rain btw) but he didn’t ask or care. We just looked at each other and said what that was about. Surprisingly rude. Bar: 5 out of 5. We went back into the lobby and decided to try the bar. Good call. The Service was great and the food was tasty. We had a nice seat along the window where we could watch the people caught in the rain ;-). The bar seemed to be the place to be at night as well. We dined elsewhere after that and never went back to the restaurant. Final rating 3.5 out of 5. Conclusion: The location was great and the room was good, but we just didn’t get the kind of personal touch from the Widder that we received at the other top hotels we stayed at on this trip and for that matter on other trips. That was disappointing. When back in Zurich we will probably try another Hotel.

- sawickif (10/5): The Widder is magical, a hidden jewel - We had a small window in Zurich before heading off to Zermatt, a friend recommended the Widder and it was wonderful! From the moment we walked in the staff were so warm and welcoming; rooms are large, fabulous bathrooms, magical touches in every room. Really fun! The staff really take the level of stay to the next level, from the old world ambiance of the happening bar to the breakfast bonanza. We will return to the Widder again!

I was expecting something more “antique” given its history, but everything was large and modern and up to date! Service and staff are beyond helpful and kind! Pricey, but so is everything in Zurich. It’s all shiny and marble and steel and a glass elevator and sort of maybe was cool thirty years ago mixed up with stone floors in your room and a bathroom from maybe twenty years ago. They forgot to do my turndown services the reception lady did seem upset when I told her but it was done with then. They give you a nice welcome with a hot towel and a tea and a small goodbye git. The staff were all very nice and service good. No noise, the hotel is on a cute street just behind the Main Street and a good location close to the train station. I think some people would love this hotel.

The hotel is centrally located and everyone was accommodating, friendly and always available for any request or arrangement that I needed help with. I was traveling with my two teen kids and felt very well taken care of. The breakfast was quiet and delicious. We did not have dinner there only because we had pre arranged dining plans before we arrived, however I’m looking forward to trying dinner on our next trip. I would stay at The Widder any time I’m in Zurich visiting from NYC.
- faigys (10/5): Boutique Hotel in Great Location - The Widder Hotel is located within the high-end shopping district of Zurich. Just step outside and you are in shopping heaven. It is also a short 7 minute walk to the main train station making it a great choice if you plan on using the train system to travel to other areas of Switzerland and beyond. It is also a block away from many bus stops which is another great way to get around Zurich. The hotel is a boutique and small in nature but there is a seating when you come in and a lounge off the entrance. The rooms themselves are cozy but spacious enough. Views are of the City and in some cases, you can see some mountain views in the distance. The hotel staff is extremely attentive and the concierge available day and night to assist with your every trip detail.

The children's area was separate which is always nice! Staff show you up to your room and this was a lovely personal touch while they explain the hotel services. Breakfast was wonderful, great food and beautiful service by all staff. We would love to return and stay longer. Location of the hotel is wonderful. Lots of little lounge areas and garden to sit in. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with such thoughtful touches - a beautiful welcome spread in our room complete with complimentary wine and desserts, plus an elegant orchid. It set the tone for what would be an exceptional stay. The Widder Bar is hands down the coolest, most fun spot we've experienced. The historical setting combined with incredible atmosphere made it unforgettable - the bar team even shared the rich history of the space with us, which made the experience even more special. The beautifully crafted cocktails and attentive service were perfection. We loved every minute and every person behind that bar. The outdoor garden bar area is adorable, featuring vintage ski gondolas decorated with wooden skis, sleds, and evergreens that you can reserve for fondue - such a quintessentially Swiss experience. Breakfast was equally impressive. Even though we arrived close to closing time, the staff never made us feel rushed. They gave us the full experience with warm, gracious service from start to finish. Every single staff member we encountered was amazing and so accommodating. The hospitality here is truly exceptional - you can tell everyone genuinely cares about creating a memorable experience for their guests. The location on Augustiner-Gasse in Zurich's Old Town is perfect, and the hotel beautifully blends historic charm with modern luxury. We can't recommend the Widder Hotel highly enough. This is exactly what luxury hospitality should feel like.

- Lawrence (10/5): Perfect. Perfect staff. Perfect location. Perfect room. - My wife and I stayed at the Widder during the first weekend of the Zurich Film Festival, and we had an excellent time. We celebrated our anniversary there, and they made it very special for us. We were even so lucky to have won a competition to attend the premiere of the film “Splitsville”. It just added an extra sparkle to the experience. The room was excellent. The bed and bedding were great. We had a room with a terrace, which had a table and chairs on it. The location is great, right in the centre of the old town on the western side of the Limmat. The best part was the staff. Very friendly and helpful. A particular shout-out to Christian and Hans (I think his name is - I am posting this review about a month after staying there!), who checked us in. They were all friendly and helpful. The only bad aspect was that we did not get to enjoy all aspects of the hotel, as we had a busy schedule while visiting Zurich that weekend. We did get to enjoy the Widder bar, which was, as always, excellent. We hope to be next year or sooner. And next time we hope to enjoy all the amenities the hotel has to offer. And we thoroughly recommend staying at the Widder.

Definitely recommend. Room was very nice. Clean and spacious. We will return and highly recommend.

Location is ideal for exploring Zurich on foot. Top notch hotel and easy to see why it's so highly rated. Stay here if you have the chance.

- dbfm1 (10/5): Fabulous Hotel - The Widder does not miss a trick.. from the greeters at the door and front desk upon arrival to the daily staff to the cleanliness to its architecture. The Widder is an architectural gem. It’s been restored from nine free-standing medieval buildings to create the hotel that spans an entire block in the old city portion of Zurich. The sleeping room and the bathroom are spacious and pristine. The breakfast is delicious offering both buffet and made-to-order selections. We did not eat dinner in the Michelin Star restaurant but did spend time in the bar which was well-stocked as well as the outdoor garden restaurant. Each area in the hotel is unique but combines together seamlessly to create this truly wonderful hotel. The Widder clearly deserves its 5 star rating.

- 606hyejungh (8/5): Charming hotel centrally located in Old Town, Zurich - Lovely boutique hotel located in Old Town Zürich The Widder Hotel is a charming boutique hotel centrally located in Old Town Zurich. Our Courtyard Queen room was spacious and was very chic, decorated with contemporary furnishings. However, the unique layout of the hotel with its passage ways and stairs might not be suitable with guests with mobility issues. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent with a wide selection of cold and warm dishes. The service although welcoming, was rather slow as we had to ask for an electric kettle several times before it was delivered to the room. Overall, the Widder Hotel was a lovely stay and the hotel’s central location and cost ambience made it an unforgettable experience.
