Guest Reviews
- Linda (8/5): Little oasis in the bush, very peaceful. - Little oasis on the track. Great location with bush setting but close to beach. Rooms good size, deck and seating excellent plus coffee maker, bathrooms a little tired but worked! Staff very helpful. They were closing for season a few days after we were leaving so kayaks and spa closed, as was pizza restaurant!!!
- Stella (10/5): Nature paradise - The place was stunningly beautiful and quiet with nature all around. Room was comfortable and lots of space, massage inside the facility was excellent- it was a Japanese masseuse- he was really skillful and was a great relax after a lot hiking around.
- Robbie (9/5): Wonderful spot for a quick getaway. - Awaroa is a beautiful location. Amazing beach and the lodge is set back in the bush. The rooms are private and well laid out. Great service by the staff, friendly and helpful. Dining experience was on the whole good. Good size portions and beautifully presented. Bathrooms are looking a bit tired and could do with a refresh, as is the dining room/conservatory. My husband was disappointed with the Eggs Benedict, especially the scone used as the base.
- Susie (9/5): -
- Karen (9/5): Perfect location for exploring the Abel Tasman Trail. - The lodge is perfectly location in the Abel Tasman Park surrounded by vegetation and a short walk to a great beach. Food good and reception staff very helpful in sorting out our needs, with help with walking tips and inlet crossing times. The rooms could have benefitted with some window covering that gave a little more privacy during the day as you were very visible from everyone walking past.
- Nina (5/5): - The location For the high price, you would have expected better service. I noticed the door lock in the women’s bathroom at the restaurant was very stiff and hard for me to open. My young daughter went to the bathroom when I didn’t realise and got stuck in there for some time. She was screaming and very traumatised when I finally found here. The wait staff came to help and appeared to know this was already problem, yet it had just been left. The staff seemed like they were backpackers who didn’t really care because the end of the season was coming up and they were finally moving on. During lunch, when you ask for service at the restaurant, they often didn’t come and you had to ask again. Sometimes you ask for something and they just forgot, or got the order wrong because they didn’t understand some English words and I had to explain the meaning. We asked three times for the candle to be lit before it finally was. On departure, as we were walking to the spot where our sea shuttle was meeting us, an earlier sea shuttle arrived, and the staff loaded our bags on the sea shuttle and then left with all our belongings. My family was running to the boat on the beach, thinking we had missed the boat and they had loaded our stuff on it, even though he knew we were still walking. He explained the boat was returning to pick us up, but the fact all our gear (including wallets and passports) got loaded and left without us for 30 mins was pretty unacceptable. Meals are around $50 NZD but the service did not match the price! Neither did the service in general for the high price you pay for the accomodation
- Tami (10/5): - Location and service
- Christine (8/5): - All very nice. Great location, food and staff
- Gillian (8/5): - Great location, excellent staff The room had quite a bad musty smell

good location for hiking..
- Angela (9/5): Wonderful, a highlight of our trip to South island. - A unique stay- the only hotel in the Abel Tasman National Park. Simple but luxurious!
- Tim (10/5): - Location
- Lesley (7/5): - Some of the staff were great but some were pretty miserable and not terribly helpful
- jodi (9/5): - Gorgeous location and a fabulous lodge!

Herzlichen Dank. Keine Beanstandungen.
- Flitton (9/5): Very, very remote private and relaxing. - The privacy of the room. The long wait to receive our food after ordering in the restaurant.
- Steven (10/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): Comfortable lodge with great food in the midst of the remote and beautiful Abel Tasman NP. - Amazing location in the heart of beautiful Abel Tasman NP. Comfortable rooms and excellent food served by friendly staff. Bar closed at 9.30pm but our superior room had space for us to continue playing games for another hour.
- Oded (8/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Fabulous location 10 minutes from the extraordinary beach. Short, but extremely well done restaurant menu. Great vibe. All in all a wonderful stay. Great for the soul.
- Louise (8/5): - Location, comfort, staff, The only thing I would suggest to the lodge is turn the music off or right down in the restaurant- the birds surrounding the lodge are lovely so just hearing them is all we needed
- Debbie (10/5): It was pure bliss to stay there….loved it - Everything!!!! Nothing!!!!!
- Vera (10/5): -
- Zena (10/5): One of my favourite weekends in New - Ideally located on a beautiful beach within Abel
Tasman National Park Air conditioning didn’t work very well - was very warm in the room at night.
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Madeline (7/5): -
- Rainer (8/5): - Lage, Wanderungen
- Mary (8/5): -
- Goran (8/5): -
- Ross (8/5): Wonderful - The spacious accommodation The restaurant menu was strange
- JULIEN (10/5): -
- Schouten (10/5): Een echte aanrader - Hele mooie omgeving, goed eten en top personeel Alles was top
- Mary (8/5): -
- Cath (9/5): a wonderful relaxing staff. With accomodating staff who dealt well with the forces of nature:) - Great breakfasts
- Daniel (10/5): Perfect while walking the Great Walk. - Remote location and native bush. Eels and glow worms were cool. Friendly staff and excellent food.
- Arno (10/5): -
- Hollie (6/5): Would go again when the staff are more trained and if the price was lower - How it feels like ur in a different country! The room was filled with cobwebs, a wet couch and no hot water
- Adele (10/5): - We had the best experience at Awaroa Lodge Their exceptional hospitality, comfortable rooms, amazing food, and safe and secure environment were fantastic. The location is just a short 3 - 4 minute walk from Awaroa Beach. We will most definitely be returning. It was just lovely
- Marquerite (10/5): Beautiful place, location, staff, the food - just fabulous! - Everything! Nothing was wrong
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruth (6/5): Not good value for money. - Nice beach
Great walks
Pleasant room but no TV or radio Very limited food choices and food all swimming in gravy or sauce. Specials were the same on both nights and both fish
Property more shabby chic than luxury.
Not particularly clean.
Very little to do in bad weather.
Very expensive for what you got and boat trip to get there is also pricy.
Expected better for the money.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb -
- Jay (10/5): We will keep coming back! - The staff were all exceptional.
Wonderful privacy. I can’t complain about a single thing.
- Tobias (10/5): Perfect awsome Great bucket list experience just loved it - I like the food ... location staff and the accommodation ...drinks atmosphere most amazing bucketlist adventure
- Callum (8/5): Very good - Overall, we liked the property, and its loction within the national park. There are nicer beaches around the area, but the buildings and layout were very nice. Unfortunately, our attempt to find glow worms was unsuccessful, but it is a cool feature. AirCon was useful and appreciated. Restaurant has a nice setting, with entirely friendly staff.
- Deirdre (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): - Wonderful.
- Christie (10/5): Highly recommend this accommodation! - The hotel was high quality, lovely linens, excellent restaurant, very accommodating staff. It was located in the wild and it took us time to figure out how to get there but once there…we were very happy. The deck was a little dirty and there was a wasp nest but the staff took care of it right away.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Selvakumar (9/5): Superb -
- Matthias (6/5): Really amazing location! The lodge per-se is ok. -
- Andrea (10/5): - What a slice of natural Heaven! Great getaway, with lots of walks, spa time and relaxation. If you haven’t, you should!
- Brent (10/5): - Excellent tranquil location
- Clementson (10/5): Absolutely fantastic! - Awaroa Lodge is fantastic. In the middle of nowhere, it is a touch of luxury. The facilities have been added on to and they work really well. Staff excellent. Food fantastic. Rooms comfortable. Nothing!
- Rosanna (10/5): Relaxing - Location, staff were helpful and the coffee in the morning was lovely. Not much to discredit & we were there less than 24hours however another bathroom in the family room would of be good
- Rreynolds1 (10/5): Surely one of the best places to stay in New Zealand - A magical place to visit. You arrive by sea (or helicopter) to be hidden away in the middle of the national park, surrounded by exotic vegetation and with your own golden sand beach. The fabric of the lodge is becoming a little tired but in every other respect this is a lovely place to stay. We were looked after mainly by a bright and very engaging young English woman called Anna but all the staff seemed tremendous.
- David (9/5): Great lodge in a superb location - Great location and superb bedrooms Breakfast service poor and slow. Room balcony needs refreshing and cleaning. Staff need to be more specific when giving guests directions to the Abel Tasman track.
- Stephanie (10/5): Overnight in Paradise - Beautiful lodge within the Abel Tasman National Park. There are no roads here, so you need to arrange for a water taxi or hike a long distance. We stayed in a lovely room set among the trees. The room was clean and comfortable. The rooms are close to the main lodge for meals and there is a nice lounge area there as well. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast there, and the food was very good. All of the staff we interacted with were warm & helpful. We walked the Coastal Track in the afternoon, which has nice views of the coastline and ends at the beach. Reservations are hard to get, so book early! All of this is a little pricey, but in our opinion, completely worth being in the midst of such an amazing venue. Nothing
- Jonathan (10/5): Fantastic retreat with really friendly staff and very comfortable rooms. - Amazing location. Great rooms. Super friendly staff Nothing
- Ben (4/5): Not 5 star, expensive & over rated, it should have been better. - The bed was comfortable and the lounge area was lovely. The food was not particularly good. Fish not fresh & it was overcooked. The vegetables were very oily & also overcooked. The service was slow & when we informed the staff we had a tight schedule due to water taxi time, the response was not helpful or supportive. Only one chair on the balcony & the balcony floor not swept. Bathroom a bit dated.
- Boudewijn (7/5): Good - Everyone was extremely friendly. Staff was helpful. WiFi doesn’t reached the lodges at all & there’s no internet service on your phone. Limited entertainment when it is raining
- Rainer (9/5): Nice lodge in the Abel Tasman - Perfect and comfortable lodge in the Abel Tasman. Tasty dinner.
- Keeler (5/5): Time for a renovation and cleanup . Lighting all LED terrible . Value for cost not worth it . Tho I will say the food wa - Location in Abel Tasman was perfect Our room number 8 was horrid and was rundown and dirty . Bathroom needs update paint needs update even keychain needs an update .
- Nick (9/5): Wonderful oasis in the middle of the National Park - The suite was really comfortable
The restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner
Staff were friendly and eager to help Nothing it was a great place to stay
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cassidee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janette (5/5): Overpriced tired and desperate need for renovation - The staff and food was excellent
Location was perfect The property was dirty and needed major cleaning throughout
Dirty windows extremely bad maintenance and no smoke alarms in the rooms which breaches health regulations
As it was a 2 story accommodation
We did speak to them about this but nothing was done
Also the room was not serviced until past 3 pm and we had to request this service
- Denise (8/5): Lovely staff and great food - Amazing location and stunning views on arrival by boat Balcony areas overlooking the pond in need of upgrade
- Paul (10/5): Fantastic place nestled in the park. It is great for families or younger couples looking for a base to explore. Food is - Unbelievable location in Abel Tasman
- Broni (8/5): Very good - Prices are steep . Isolated lovely location that offers tranquility Prices don’t reflect what is offered in food . Service and Accomadation
- Paul (10/5): A great oasis in the national park - Very well organised, great food. Not much
- Barney (8/5): Very good -
- Ange (8/5): - Amazing food and staff. Rooms are a bit dated but perfect spot to finish off the Abel Tasman walk
- Rachael (10/5): Great base for walking and relaxing - Great location and service was high quality Nothing
- Sharon (7/5): Overnight break - Quiet, comfortable, private. Nice food Could do better with the cleaning
- Dave (10/5): - Great food and surroundings . Possibly a little bit expensive would be the only thing to take a look at .
- Robert (9/5): Beautiful surroundings - The location and the restaurant staff were great. Room could have been more comfy and view could have been better. Otherwise overall was fine. The shower flooding into the whole bathroom
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (4/5): - We were left at the end of a 12 mile dirt road in the dark, unable to contact the hotel as no signal, after driving back 12 miles we rang hotel to be told by voicemail that everyone had gone home so unable to help. We were left with no where to stay and extremely anxious and upset
- Aimee (10/5): A Magical Spot - Everything was well organised and easy.
- Maggie (9/5): Unique opportunity to stay in a National Park. - Beautiful setting, very quiet, helpful staff, great opportunities to explore area Restaurant menu is limited
- jahnhenryl (10/5): Go there for secluded experience - We wanted a quiet and relaxing “gap” in our travel program and did we get that - YES!
All from the boat voyage out to the Lodge through the return voyage we were meet with nice and personal service, charming living huts, fabulous food and wines - and - fantastic nature.
We got two days and nights at this fabulous place which felt like much more - when we left we just said to ourselves - what an experience!
- Kevin (9/5): EXCELLENT accommodation in MAGNIFICENT NZ National Park setting!! - We LOVED the location, proximity to trails and beach, the bed and pillows were divine, dark and quiet room allowed us to sleep well, surprisingly-delicious meal options, excellent friendly service personnel, peace and serenity! A few more menu options might have been nice as well as a longer opening for the guest common area.
- Atkos (8/5): A 2-night stay in the heart of the Abel Tasman National Park - After leaving our car safely in Kaiteriteri, we hopped on the Sea Shuttle and enjoyed an hour and 45mins cruise, dotting in and out of all the little bays dropping folk off. The sunshine was out and we were so fortunate to encounter two humpback whales (a mother and its calf) which we stayed with for almost 20-30mins before finally being dropped off at the beach in Awaroa.
From the start it felt like we were Robinson Crusoe. Our luggage was whisked away and we were left to amble down the beach, up a wooden walkway and then weave our way through the lush Forrest before arriving at the lodge.
We were quickly checked in where I also took the opportunity to pre-book a massage the following day. We found our room (no.8) which was clean and comfortable and set about finding a local walk where we could stretch our legs.
Once we got a feel for the place, it felt so liberating just packing some water and a few snacks and hitting the local trails. There really is something for everyone depending on how much (or little) you fancy doing. Even if you just end up wondering down the track to feed the eerie looking tame eels!
All the food was fantastic, including the breakfasts and coffee. All the staff were friendly and attentive, with a few going above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable. A particular highlight was the most amazing 60min massage with Flo! She has magic hands and I left feeling like I was floating on a cloud, knot free after a good 6 mile schlep that morning!
On our departure we had to kick off our shoes and socks and wade into the sea to make the gangplank as the tide was so low the Sea Shuttle couldn’t get right to the beach, but that made it all a little more exciting in the blustery weather!
A real break from reality and a true connection to nature. A real highlight of our trip, which we would highly recommend!
- David (10/5): Exceptional - The lovely, peaceful location with all the luxury you could need, especially when the weather let you down. Staff were fantastic and extremely helpful and despite the conditions, Josh's kayaks experience was memorable. Many thanks. Nothing
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- jonneeboy (10/5): Great place to stay in the National Park - We stayed a night here as part of our trip around New Zealand as we thought it was a good way to experience the Abel Tasman National Park with limited time, and we were right. We got the Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle there and back which is an experience in itself. Although the weather was patchy while we were there, it didn’t really affect us too much as there’s loads to do. We went on a hike in the forest, plus a hike along the beach and shoreline, plus we saw the glow worms and fed the eels. The meals we had were good and the staff very friendly
- Elaine (9/5): A hiker’s haven! - Beautiful setting, clean, peaceful room.
Unfortunately we were soaked as it rained for the entire day hiking so we were very glad to have somewhere nice to stay to warm up & dry everything for the next day. Was quite expensive, and cost of room didn’t cover breakfast.
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic lodge, loved everything about it and great staff!
- Navigator753559 (10/5): Heaven on earth - If you are looking for a piece of heaven on earth - you have found it here. From arrival shared areas are so beautifully appointed - welcoming receptionist so knowledgable and kind. Kevin and Amber in restaurant so knowledgable on wine and menu choices. Food is insane, each dish created with care and love. Such pride in what they do.
I had a session in spa with Flo and I feel refreshed and totally relaxed.
This is sheer bliss, even though the weather was stormy at night the warmth of the team made our stay so so special 🔥🔥
- MummaandCo (8/5): Biking group - 22 of us stayed here. Beautiful location & rustic building which is gorgeous inside. Meals were delicious & service was friendly. Not ideal to be in shared room with another couple, awkward! Very steep stairs to the mezzanine floor. Nice tracks around it to walk. Long walk from the beach to the lodge, especially after biking 74km!! Disappointed you couldn't hire paddle boards & take them out, you had to wait for the kayak guy to take you when he was free, a big loss of $ to the lodge from us therefore. Stunning golden beaches to sunbathe on & swim from.
- Roohi (9/5): Lovely one night stay - Beautifully built and set out. Lovely bedrooms and communal areas taking advantage of the outdoor location Nothing but quite expensive when you add up all extras
- Llewellyn (9/5): Stunning location - The location! The kids enjoyed the kayaking. The water taxi trips were a great way to arrive and enjoy the scenery. Limited dinner choices. The wet rooms in the accommodation didn't work very well when there are 5 of you sharing a bathroom.
