Guest Reviews
- Isabelle (9/5): -
- Marnie (10/5): -
- Nóra (10/5): - We stayed at this place for five days. The rooms are spacious; the furniture is a bit shabby, but every room has a lovely balcony. All rooms have both a fan and air conditioning. Breakfast exceeded our expectations: fresh orange juice, a variety of Mexican dishes, omelettes, and more. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming and fulfilled all our requests, such as providing an iron and ironing board, a sun umbrella, and even cocktails on the rooftop. The hotel is located in a quiet part of the neighborhood, only 1.5 km from the lively area full of bars and restaurants. The beautiful sandy beach is just 150 meters from the hotel. Several shops can be found in a few minutes walking distances expect alcoholic drinks.
- Jay (8/5): Although not walkable from town, it’s quiet and has an excellent beach. - In a quiet location and very close to a beautiful, public beach. The rooms were clean, the balcony was nice and a restaurant was on site.
- Sean (9/5): - The room was clean and large with a nice balcony. The location is ideal if you want to be close to the beach, Playa 88 and Playa Punta Esmeralda. The area is lacking a bit for restaurant choices and stores for supplies (beer isn't sold in this area). The staff are all kind and very accommodating. The restaurant that is connected to the hotel can be slow, so we avoided it after our first experience. Although this seemed to be dependent on the employee who was working (short hair girl=super slow). Overall a good place to stay if the beach is your top priority! restaurant too slow and the hotel was a bit expensive for what it is (Christmas time price increase)
- Dav_iD44 (10/5): Great spot to enjoy the beach is a more relaxed area. - Great hotel located just a few meters from the beach. Street parking is available, and the cuisine is excellent—both for breakfast and dinner at the on-site restaurant. The rooms are well-equipped and spacious. Plus, the rooftop terrace with hammocks is a fantastic touch! Thanks for the sympathy of the team in the kitchen ;) all good
- JORGE (8/5): - Ok the hotel and location is great, breakfast is included with you stay ( the breakfast is good) is very close to beach 88 who is used the majority by locals, is only 2 issue's one is not elevator in the hotel so you have to carry you luggage to you room and the second is parking you have to park in the street when you arrive is not parking by the street due to people using the beach but after the beach close people leave and you have enough space to park. Overall was great and I will come back .

- Jill Renee (10/5): - Highly recommend this property. Location is perfect, with next to no traffic, entrance to public beach just across the road, and just a short sraight shot, within walking distance, to 5th Ave. If you're in to exercise, you can literally start your run, walk, biking, etc...right outside your door; you won't be alone, seems to be a common route, as the majority of roadway is pedestrian only.
Service is great, very attentive. As others have said, the coffee is delicious, as well as the fresh squeezed orange juice, both of which are included with breakfast, which was included in our stay, for which we could order off the menu; everything is delicious and good serving size. Loved the open air feel/atmosphere of not just the restaurant area, but the stairwell to the rooms, as well.
The rooms are plenty spacious, bright, and quiet. Staff did excellent job of keeping our room immaculate every day we were there, fully restocking soap, shampoo/conditioner, toilet paper, etc... when needed. We loved relaxing in the hammocks on the rooftop.
Oftentimes we came in late at night, and each night there was personnel on the other side of the door.
This was very reassuring and gave us a sense of security.
If in area again, we would definitely stay here again. No complaints and very affordable.
- Franklin (6/5): - Web site pictures are not accurate. Need to update it.
- Kateryna (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything! Wide beds (quite unusual for Mexico), very clean, big room, friendly staff, very close to the beach. Breakfast takes some time to prepare since it's a la carte. You should keep it in mind and maybe pre-order if you are in a hurry.
- juan (10/5): - Walking distance to the beach and free breakfast food taste really good, but they need to add more options staff very friendly and courteous
- Sofya (10/5): - Everything was great. The staff, location. Christian was awesome, helpful, and welcoming. Close to the ocean and to the little shops and cafes. Breakfast was filling and tasty. Next time I will be staying there again if it is possible.
- Hyeok Jin (10/5): - The best location for Playa 88. Its restaurant, La 88 had various options, traditional and modern filling breakfasts. We had shrimp tacos and chicken fajitas for dinner, which they delivered them to our room. Delicious. Two air conditioning units kept the large room and kitchen cool off. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Beer and wine are not sold in the neighborhood marts but the hotel had them available at good price.
- Judith (8/5): We had a nice time staying at Hotel Sol for a few days close to the beach with our kids. Room was clean and we enjoyed t - Closeness to the beach and good breakfast
- aleC7837WH (10/5): Jewel in Playa! - GO LOCO! you will not regret it. We stayed in room 2...one of the best hehe biased ..its the one right over the thatch roof restaurant that closes at 9PM. The room was spacious, two balconies + a rooftop balcony. Breakfast..authentic Mexican!! and coffee that would rival Starbucks included. The room was comfortable, affordable and cleaned daily. We stayed for 9 days and were sad to leave. Only 5 minute walk along a lovely pathway to Playa 88: a public, well maintained coral white sand beach with all the amenities except food and water. This property faces 5 th. Ave. which is closed to cars and a popular walkway for both locals and tourists alike. Being a residential neighbourhood, its very quiet at night and has security O/N around the property. Ready for supper?? Well the restaurant has an incredible seafood soup as well as a full menu in addition to rockin' margueritas :) Want to go afield? You can catch the bus for 10 pesos three blocks up or the staff will be happy to get you a taxi to downtown for +/- 120 pesos and get all the shopping you need to do and enjoy the fab restaurants on Norte 38 - pricey but FAB. Who needs an all inclusive when you can have all the amenities handy, only 4 rooms on the property and a wonderful, helpful staff and owner. There were a few drawbacks such as the need for chairs on the balcony and a sitting/lounging area around the TV. The bed could also use a bedspread...there was only a sheet and more kitchenware in order to make and eat meals/snacks. Other than that - great place for the price - and so so charming!!
- Mark Arthur (10/5): - Perfect location..close to beach, in house dining with Authentic cuisine and fresh coffee that rivals the best of Starbucks
- Jasmin (10/5): - Like from personal meetings and greeting by the owner to very halpfull stuff and restaurant people. All in all great and very convenient hotel location.
Highly recommend 👌
- Tomm80 (8/5): Good value, near the beach, remote from downtown tourism - Nice small hotel with spacious apartments including kitchen, bathroom, balcony. Location is near the playa 88, which is a great beach, apart from downtown tourism in Playa. Area is a bit remote, but walkable (15min) to calle 50, where cafes start etc. Location is in a silent area, nevertheless you might have dogs barking at night, or some cars / cleaning going on in the morning on the street. Overall a good value. We did not get the hot water in the shower running. We told the staff, it should work usually.
- Ian (10/5): - Loved it all, great little hotel would definitely book again. A good walk to the action on 5th ave, if too much for you grab a taxi or collectivo
- Yashar (10/5): - I am nothing but good to say about this hotel. The staff is very friendly, the room is wonderful and it’s 5 min walk away from the ocean and a pleasant 10-15min walk away from all the bars and restaurants. The breakfast is great! Highly recommend!
- Mary Ann (10/5): - Food at the restaurant is the best, freshly made to order.
Our stay included free breakfast.
Christian is very attentive and made our stay relaxing and enjoyable.
Free overnight parking with security guard.
The beach is located about three minutes walk.
At night, one can enjoy the rooftop. It has hammocks and calming atmosphere.
Only con, the restaurant area needs A/C or fans in the Summer heat.
We would highly recommend this place.
- Robert (10/5): - Side streets in this area at night don’t feel entirely safe.
- Barry (10/5): - Beautiful property in a fantastic location. Muchas gracias!
- Ofelia (8/5): agradable -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Erick (10/5): - The property is certainly unique. It is big enough to offer all of the amenities of a hotel but small enough to feel like a home. The property is lovely, offers great service and has excellent security and is walking distance from the beach. Great for couples, families, and solo travelers.
It is walking distance from 5 Ave. which will give you a quiet space to sleep in. Showers are great and they offer cleaning service daily.
I accidentally left my prescribed glasses at the hotel and they kindly kept them safe until we communicated a way to get them back.
Christian is great at replying, and I will gladly stay here again.
- Dmitry (10/5): Great location, super clean, very good food. - Everything street parking only
- Jessica (10/5): - Perfect location. Great service from staff. We were very happy with our stay.
- JenniferI221 (10/5): Ruhiges persönliches Hotel am besten Strandteil von Playa del Carmen - This little clean hotel with big rooms is really a good option to really enjoy the greatest part of the beach, playa 88. Beautiful beach outside of the overflowed center.its at the 5ta avenida but like 20mins walking from the loud center of playa. I enjoyd this stay because the hotel is clean, has breakfest included and big rooms and i could" nt believe, very quiet at night. Very professional security guard for the night. The hotel has also a redtaurant.its only a two minutes walk to the beach the boss of the hotel is very responsable and helps out with everything you need.i felt to be at a trustful place and in good hands.
- Sherie (10/5): - This is an excellent little peaceful hotel near the best, in my opinion, beach in Playa. Large, clean, comfortable rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful, particularly the manager Christian. Hotel restaurant is very good, especially the breakfasts. I recommend this hotel very highly.
- Marko (10/5): - Everything and everyone, from location to server to an owner, remarkable.
- Mike_Seattle (10/5): Perfect little hotel - We liked place a lot. Descripción and photos very accurate. A lot of plusses goes for it.
First location. It is only 2 minutes walk to great un crowded public beach that cleaned every day and has shade.
It is very quiet with zero noise at night.
It is very secure with security every night.
Full good breakfast in the restaurant on first floor.
Room has kitchen but we didn't use it.
Comunication is perfect and owner / manager from Switzerland with perfect English and this explains a lot why all in perfect order. It is not our first time in Playa and this is the best place that we stayed. We know where we going to stay next time
We see no negative for this place
- Arlette-Marie (10/5): - I WOULD 10/10 recommend especially Solo travelers who’s softer is a priority…I don’t know why I waited this long …. This hotel is managed by the most kind, friendly and adaptable staff and manager. They were able to answer any of my questions and was able to cater to any needs I had while on my stay! It felt like I was visiting a home away from home.. 10/10. Recommend also it’s literally 40secs away from the beach you can get any better than that!
- Samy Yee-Kheong (10/5): Great place to chill in Playa de Carmel - I can see what they rated this place a 10!
The young owner is hands-on to resolve any challenges that you may have. THE STAFF especially the manager is an absolute GEM. You can always tell when someone has a good heart through her voice, her actions, and her loving-kindness. It is truly a special place to chill to relax or to work.
My room's view was exactly what the picture depicted. It is also conveniently located to the entrance to the entrance of a public beach.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will gladly stay here again. The bonus is that when you stayed here, they have a restaurant downstairs which includes your breakfast.
Also, even though it is a small place, the 4th floor does not have stairs, make sure you are fit to carry your luggage up!
I will offer a few suggestions to the owner of the accommodation:
- You need to get new pillows. These pillows have seen their prime.
- It would be nice to add a kettle so that we can boil some water in our room for those that do not have a kitchen.
Thanks,
Samy
- Carlos (10/5): - The staff is incredible. Location is across the 5ta walkway from Playa 88 access. Room is airy and be ready for some stair climbing. The included breakfast is lip smacking delicious. I plan on staying here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was not my first time here but it will be the most memorable. We unfortunately had to leave early due to the Covid19 pandemic however Christian and his staff made sure we had a relaxing time while we were there. The hammocks on the roof were so relaxing. Quick walk to our favourite beach and enjoyed the food at the restaurant below. Try Teddy’s fajitas they were very tasty as were their piña coladas and cold beers. Our room was spacious and very clean. Kitchen had the basics that we needed to prepare some meals on our own. Had AC and ceiling fans if it got too hot. Having lots of windows with screens allowed a great cross breeze so we rarely used the AC. We can’t wait to go back. Thanks again to Christian and his staff for making us feel safe and relaxed during this crazy time in our wold.
- Therese (10/5): - The staff was very accommodating. It is a very short walk to the beach with a beautiful view. The food was very good also.
- Julie (10/5): - This hotel renewed my faith in "Customer Service." They put the customer first in every aspect.
It seemed to be a family-owned facility with an excellent manager - Christian. He assisted with anything that was needed and if there were issues, he resolved them promptly whiile always putting my needs first.
This is the cleanest hotel that I have ever stayed in which is comforting to one with OCD>
The breakfast that is included rocks. You have many choices for your selection including European and American type options. Every dish was excellent, and I am super picky.
This hotel is located in a very quiet location within a block of the beach. I had 2 balconies in my room that allowed me to enjoy the peace and quiet.
All of the staff made me feel like I was at home. I felt safe and secure.
- Changhyun (10/5): Good place to spend a night - U van find very friendly peiple in there, consideribg the price its the best!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great start to the trip! - Nice location outside of the main town. We felt safe and welcomed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Would have been nice to have the wifi password located in the room. And to the owner, please please get those privacy thing we can put on the door handle. Cleaning lady came every day at 830 am to clean the room. She was very nice and did great job! But some days we were still sleeping.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Exelente hotel. Muy buen servicio. Gabriel nos atendio de maravilla. Y todos los demas excelente
- U7698RDrobertd (10/5): Quiet Hotel near beach - This is a small hotel near the beach . We get up early , so having a coffee in our room is always better . Nice to sit on the balcony for morning coffee . The kitchenette is well equipped , but we really did not use it . Just the refrigerator . The bed was good and firm . The AC worked well and was quiet . Good water pressure in the bathroom .
Public beaches are usually small and unkempt . The multinational hotels close as much of the coast as they can . However the 88 beach is clean with restrooms and shower water . You can also walk past the big hotel up to playa Esmeralda . It is also a good public beach . There are some vendors and facilities .
This area is not part of the downtown nightclub scene . A taxi to downtown should be 30 to 50 pesos . Always ask before riding . Most of the taxis are good but some will overcharge . There are small stores and restaurants close by on 10th. But the restaurant at the hotel is very good . We had breakfast there every day after a morning swim and some evenings .
- Natalya (10/5): Great family-run hotel! - Hotel Sol Playa is a very nice, quiet and cozy little place. Rooms are clean and have everything you need: a huge bed, A/C, ceiling fan, TV with some English channels, toiletteries and towels, and even a small kitchen (not that you need it - the hotel has a restaurant downstairs, and the food is very good!!). They offer a delicious breakfast - not just a typical continental toast and jam, but omelettes, pancakes and freshly-squieezed orange juice (included in the room price, which was awesome!). The yard is very beautiful too, with orchids and other plants making it look like a tropical forest.
The beach is a 3-5 min walk and is nice, clean and not crowded. You'd have to walk about 15 min to get to all the shops and restaurants in Playa Del Carmen but didn't seem to be an issue for us. There isn't much in the area (it's residential + local businesses), but if you want to stay away from all the hustle and bustle of downtown PDC and don't mind walking, it would work great for you. We actually enjoyed the non-touristy feel here. A very pleasant stay!
Highly recommend this place for a relaxed, non-all-inclusive, local-feel stay in Playa del Carmen!
- bbhkccaa (10/5): Relax And Enjoy - When we arrived the owner and his staff were there to greet us and they were very quick to take our luggage to our room. The room was huge and spotless there was a good size flat screen a king size bed and to make things over the top cool was the private balcony over looking the ocean. When booking the availability to switch up your bed sizes are quickly dealt with. The whole hotel and the attached restaurant are always clean, friendly well organized, and the topper: SAFE. The owner is great, friendly, helpful and a blast to talk to. He seems to deal with any thing coming his way with manners and respect. Our two week stay was great and we would for sure go back. The beach is a 2 minutes stroll away and the taxi service is great. For those that like to walk it is easy to get right in to the hub of Fifth Ave that is great. If you do not like the all inclusive vibe and prefer your own thing I would say give this hotel a long look at. They have this great roof top terrace, that has hammocks a thatched roof gazebo and a bbq. The view is perfect for as long as you wish to stare. For me it was a least a few drinks from the restaurant on the ground floor. I say just go.
- urss525 (8/5): Holiday - Room and location very good. From the roof terrace you can enjoy the sea.Small restaurant with friendly staff and good Food. The small hotel is managed by the manager personally. The beach is in walking distance 300 m.
- aznivp2015 (10/5): Very nice place - Very clean, great food at their restaurant, owner is very friendly. Beach is walking distance,
The place was very clean, they provide towels for the beach if you ask for them
I will deffinatelly go back!
- Manny (10/5): Great place for long stays - We stayed at the Hotel Playa Sol last month and our experience was overall great. First, the owner Christian is very knowledgable and super friendly. He had a ton of insights into the area and was a very welcoming host. The staff is fantastic, you couldn't find friendlier people anywhere else in town, seriously they're great.
- garyk2275 (10/5): Clean, safe, friendly staff - Room looked even nicer than the pictures online. Great balcony overlooking the water in the distance. Cute open air restaurant downstairs. Felt very safe and friendly staff/management was very safety conscious, not even allowing one of my unannounced visitors to walk up to my door. Steps from the beach. Easy check in/check out. Great communication with owner prior to trip. Great deal.
- Pam (10/5): Lovely Little Hotel - I read several of the reviews before staying here. The neighborhood does appear sketchy, but the staff assured us it was safe. We walked everywhere with no problems, and late at night. They do provide a security guard around the hotel. It is on Quinta Avenida so you can walk on that street straight downtown if you like- about 30-40 minutes. We also walked in other areas of the neighborhood, took the connectivo to Cancun to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres with no problem. The room was very clean, and we actually liked the firm bed. We had no hot water, but after walking so much, it felt pretty good. We walked the beach closeby, but didn't get in here. We basically took day excursions (Xcaret,Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres) and walked the neighborhood at night. The restaurant food at the hotel was excellent. In fact, better than a lot of the other places we ate and definitely at a better price. They do not speak any English at the hotel. The people downtown in the shopping district speak English, but not in the neighborhoods. We got by with what Spanish and Spanglish we knew (or what I could translate on my phone). The staff is friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
- Marc_B (10/5): Nice Find - I stayed for three nights in this little hotel off the beaten track. It is conveniently located - about 300 m from the beach, BUT it is a hike into the center of town. But cabs are cheap.
The rooms are spacious and clean and the little restaurant serves a nice breakfast (that is included in the price) and has also a fairly large lunch and dinner menu.
So, if you prefer it quiet and don't need to be in an all inclusive resort or in the party zone, this is the place to be.
- Daniel (6/5): Average, terrible location. - We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The neighborhood where this hotel is localed is pretty sketchy. Also, a bit far from the main attactions in playa.
The free breakfast was pretty decent, the staff was very friendly.
We didnt spend much time at the hotel because there's nothing to do around it, besides walking to the beach.
The room was big and spacious, but the bed and pillows we not very good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Close to the beach, in a not so safe neighborhood - The hotel is close to the beach, but far from downtown or most of the cities restaurants and bars. The Wi-Fi it was inconsistent and the service was subpar.
- Trova81 (8/5): Great Time! - Room, Kitchen all was as advertised! Great that there were 2 balconies! Had a great chat with Christian the day I left. Staff all friendly and helpful. Hey Christian, sorry this is a year late! But better late than never!
- Twila (10/5): Thumbs up Sol Playa - Hotel Sol Playa was clean and comfortable. The food (and coffee) at the restaurant downstairs was very tasty. We recommend their strawberry/banana/mango smoothie. The hotel sits just across the road from a public beach entrance. It's about a 10 minute walk to downtown Playa. There isn't much else in the immediate area but it's a great deal overall.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Enjoyed Hotel Sol Playa - My family and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Sol Playa. The small hotel is very comfortable and the room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and provided excellent service. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. In quiet area and walking distance to the beach and about 30-40 minute walk to downtown. I would return to this hotel in the future.
- 697vittorios (6/5): Cheap and clean - The place is far off downtown so need a taxi all the time to move around. Not a big deal to be honest as they are really cheap. He area isn't great though. The staff is very friendly and lovely and he room was very big and clean with a safe and a small fridge, plus a balcony. The only downside is that it was on top of the stairs so if you have big luggage it may be a problem but the owner will help you, again he was really nice with us. They will give a breakfast and we shared a fruit plate and pancakes every morning and they were very good.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Far Away from Downtown - The hotel is far away from downtown. If you have a car, it's OK, otherwise it will be very inconvenient. Their free breakfast was very basic. The room we stayed in was spacious and quiet, we had a good sleep. Overall, it was mediocre with the price I have paid.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quite small hotel, suited us just fine - The room was large and had a clean bed (although a bit hard, could use a foam mattress topper). The water pressure and available hot water was excellent. The air conditioner was quite and effective. The location was fine for us. Not really walking distance to the main town, but there is inexpensive secure pay lot near the center of town on 6th street, so we were good. The kitchenette needs some updating but everything worked.
It's a good value and we'd stay there again. But you can't help but imagine if the owners invested $5k into this 4 room hotel for some updating it would be awesome.
- Gina (10/5): quiet, family hotel near the beach - We really enjoyed our stay at Sol Playa. It was peaceful, quiet, and fun. We could walk to the beach easily. The restaurant was inexpensive and the food was great! We would stay here again if we go back to Playa!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic, clean and far away - The staff were nice but limited English. The rooms were large, pretty and clean. Beds were VERY hard and the curtains were sheers so very bright at night in the rooms (street lights right outside the windows). This hotel is far from downtown (30-40 minutes) so rent some bikes if you are staying here. The beach is few minutes away but not really a swimming beach. Good for sun tanning or a walk though. Cheap.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Place - Quiet - This place is north of Playa del Carmen town center where all the bars, restaurants and clubs are located. For that reason it was more quiet and peaceful, which my wife and I preferred. It was a very nice room and the staff was very friendly and helpful when we had some maintenance issues (light bulbs went out).
- Evgenii (10/5): Nice hotel close to the beach
- Purely, comfortably, the kitchen in number is completed to trifles. The operating Christian very attentive and sympathetic. Had a rest from 01.01.2015
- julie (10/5): A little piece of paradise ! - We loved our stay at Sol Playa !
The staff is very helpful and friendly, the owner is more than devoted and makes you feel like you are more than just a guest. He even organized a super BBQ night on Christmas Eve for is family and guests !
The food in the restaurant is delicious and not too pricy. Best coffee in town !
If you are looking for a stay in a small hotel, away from the crowd, in the typical mexican neibourhood, Sol Playa is the best !
Only 4-5 min walk from the beach and 15-20 min walk to Playa del carmen center.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Will stay again! - Great location. Lighted beach pathway right across the street. Little cafe had very good food. The only downfall was the shortage of hot water - shower was just warm not hot.
- Lilliana (10/5): Location... Is near to the town hall - Awsome and the hotel is pretty quiet. Totally recommended
- Busines@theBeach (8/5): Awkward Schedule - Arrived around 10:30pm, at which time the whole place was closed up and a maintenance person was waiting outside to let us in. We carried our luggage up two flights of stairs to a very large, clean room with a balcony and a view of the path to the beach. It took a few hours to cool down with the air conditioning units. We had to leave the following morning at 7:45, at which time no one was around, so we left our room key under the back door. The complimentary breakfast must have started later in the day. I expect this would have been a nice place for a longer stay, but our rushed schedule made for a confusing visit.
- farac (10/5): A highly recommended paradise in Mexico! - A gorgeous little hotel in a peacefull area, a few minutes away from the town center by car. There is a sand beach a couple of minutes walk away. Christian our helpful and friendly English speaking host, welcomed us when we arrived late at night. We were on our honeymoon, and so he gave us a room on the top storey that was decorated romantically. It was spacious, very clean and well equipped. We had a private balcony with a nice view, lots of privacy and it was really quiet. There is a small restaurant on the ground floor with great staff. Here we had the best breakfast every morning, and the biggest fresh fruit margaritas every night. Christian helped us with suggestions to explore the town and surrounding area. It was lovely to come home to our beautiful room after a busy day. He also allowed us to leave our hire car at the hotel for three days while we were on Cozumel island. We felt very safe, relaxed and well looked after. We were sad to leave, and we will definetly return.
