- Klasik (7/5): - Sam hotel bardzo ładnym miejscu. Ale nie ma nic ciekawego w około. Jeśli zależy ci na leżakowaniu jest to super miejsce nad samym brzegiem oceanu. Posiada ładny czysty basen z widokiem na ocean. Ubogie jedzenie w restauracji. Mały wybór. Śniadania dobre ale lunch i kolacja ta sama karta i było nie dopracowane. Przykładowo ośmiornica twarda a kalmary za bardzo wysmażone lub za długo na grillu i były gumowate.

- Dominika (8/5): Celý hotel je v skutočnosti zanedbanejší ako na fotkách, ale napriek tomu sme si tam veľmi dobre oddýchli. - Hotel je v krásnej záhrade, je tam ticho a človek, ktorý netúži po množstve plážových aktivít si skutočne oddýchne. Na súkromnej pláži vás nikto neotravuje. Personál bol miestami otrávený, odtok v kúpeľni mierne páchol. Ale nič nezvládnuteľné. Pláž trpí vysokým prílivom/odlivom a more je plytké.

- Cynthia (9/5): Great place to stay in Zanzibar - The Mbweni Ruins is a great place to stay in Zimbabwe. The property itself is in a jungle garden, a few trails and steps to a very nice beach area. The rooms are large and clean. Bed and bedding were good, not too soft and not too hard. AC works great, nice shower. Breakfast was good, order off a menu but get several choices to pick from, and can get a few items. And the coffee/tea/juice options were good. The employees were my favorite parts, kind and considerate and always wanted to accommodate. And they have very good security too (I’m a solo traveler so they made me feel safe there). The beach is clean and nice. Not a huge beach but a good one. Lots of the local young people come down to the beach in the evening to swim and play soccer (burn energy), so it’s fun to watch but don’t recommend going to far alone. They do some animal rescue to, a few well behaved cats and dogs. I like that. It’s not a super fancy place, it’s a home feeling place, nice but not perfect. I liked everything

We booked a “junior suite” but got a damp room with a basement feel. They charge extra if you arrive early. Breakfast took forever to arrive.
- Ang (8/5): Great stay at Mbweni. - We checked in at the last day of our stay on Zanzibar island. We had been harassed by locals purporting as Masai on the North side of the island and the east side of the island. Mbweni provided the needed sanctuary were we can enjoy the beach without being harassed or molested. We also liked the sustainability principles employed by the hotel. Nothing. The stay was short but excellent. There was nothing bad to say about our stay here. The only down side was that we could have stayed for longer.

- Ina (7/5): Correct pour un court séjour - L'emplacement d’hôtel est très pratique : 15 minutes de l’aéroport. Vue sur la terrasse de restaurant est sympa. L’équipement de salle de bain est un peu vétuste.
- Marcel (8/5): Nahe Flughafen, aber dennoch etwas abgelegen - Wir haben dieses Hotel aufgrund seiner guten Lage gewählt: nahe am Flughafen, dennoch etwas abgelegen, und außerdem ist das Hotelrestaurant der Treffpunkt für die Fähre nach Chumbe Island. Für uns war es daher ideal, da wir anschließend zwei Nächte auf Chumbe Island verbracht haben. Das Personal war freundlich und hilfsbereit. Aus meiner (europäischen) Perspektive wirkte es etwas zurückhaltend und weniger gesprächig, aber das ist natürlich ein persönlicher Eindruck. Das Essen im Hotelrestaurant war gut, allerdings war die Wartezeit recht lang – etwa 45 Minuten für das Frühstück, obwohl wir die einzigen Gäste waren. Die Zimmer waren sauber und mit allem ausgestattet, was man benötigt. Aufgrund einer Umbenennung bzw. Übernahme des Hotels wurde uns eine Position versehentlich doppelt berechnet. Die Rückerstattung steht noch aus, aber das Hotelpersonal ist bemüht, die Angelegenheit zu klären und in Ordnung zu bringen.

- Nathan (9/5): A simple relaxing, comfortable short stay in tranquility. - The place has a warm authentic colonial feel. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating and the food is very good. On the approach to the hotel, all you see are ruins, which at first is a bit disconcerting, but the place is very peaceful and authentic and comfortable in its simplicity. Appreciating what it is, there was nothing not to like really. The main deck area close to the restaurant requires new decking, but I presume that they have works planned as it was sectioned off.

- Martina (9/5): Gutes Hotel in gigantischem Garten - Das Hotel befindet sich auf dem Grundstück der Ruinen einer ehemaligen Mädchenschule für befreite Sklavinnen inmitten eines sehr beeindruckenden Gartens, den man tatsächlich schon als Dschungel bezeichnen könnte. Es liegt an einem schönen Strandabschnitt mit eingewachsenen Mangroven, an dem man herrlich baden kann (wenn das Wasser da ist), der aber öffentlich ist und nicht ausschließlich von Hotelgästen genutzt wird. Wir hatten große Freude daran, die einheimischen Familien bei ihren Vergnügungen am Strand zum Feierabend zu beobachten, tagsüber ist hier am Strand wenig Betrieb. Die Ausstattung unseres Zimmers war gut, Klimaanlage, sehr gute Dusche, Kühlschrank, Kaffe/Tee-Zubereitung, Wasserflaschen, eigene Terrasse. Wir durften eineinhalb Stunden eher als Check-in das Zimmer bereits beziehen und aufgrund unseres sehr frühen Check-out bekamen wir am Abend ein Frühstück aufs Zimmer gebracht, bestehend aus frischen Früchten, gekochten Eiern und Brot, vielen Dank dafür! Das Essen im Restaurant ist gut, wir hatten Frühstück und Abendessen, und die Lage des Restaurants ist perfekt auf einem erhöhten Küstenabschnitt mit tollem Blick, herrlich für den Sonnenuntergang! Wir haben und wohl gefühlt und können dieses Hotel empfehlen. Es ist tatsächlich das ein oder andere renovierungsbedürftig, besonders die Holzterrasse des Restaurants.

The facilities were well maintained, and the stay itself was pleasant I didn’t always feel fully comfortable with some of the staff interactions. Nothing specific happened, but at times the atmosphere felt a bit off to me.
- Harald (1/5): Nie wieder! Eine volle Enttäuschung, auch über den fehlenden Kundenservice von Booking. - Nichts Das Zimmer entspricht in keinster Weise der Beschreibung auf Booking. Kaputte Möbel, verschimmelte Dusche, modriger Geruch im Zimmer. Das Hotel ist in einem baufälligem Zustand, wo der Putz von den Wänden fällt und hat einen verwahrlosten Garten. Der Strand sowie die Außenanlagen sind in einem schlechten Zustand (siehe Fotos). Zudem kam beim Duschen nur kaltes, spärliches Wasser aus der Brause. Die Duschtrennung war zudem undicht und damit war das Bad geflutet, wenn man doch duschte. Ferner hat das WLAN großteils nicht funktioniert und die Funkverbindung ist ebenfalls sehr schlecht an dem Ort. Jeden Abend trifft sich die Dorfjugend der Umgebung (>30 Personen) auf dem kleinen Strand vor dem Hotel und spielt mit großem Geschrei Fussball. Eine Zumutung beim Abendessen, wo man sich nicht unterhalten kann. Im Restaurant lagen auf vielen Tischen zahlreiche Katzen, die sich teilweise nicht vertreiben ließen. Ferner bettelten Hunde am Tisch an, wenn Essen serviert wurde. Trotz merhmaliger Beschwerde beim Manager des Hotels, wurde keine Abhilfe geschaffen. Storno wurde abgelehnt, sodass wir bereits vorzeitig das Hotel verließen. Leider konnten wir unsere Buchung nicht stornieren und eine Beschwerde beim Booking Kundendienst blieb 5 Tage unbeantwortet. Bis heute warten wir auf eine Entschädigung. Wir haben immerhin >US 500 für 4 Nächte bezahlt :-((

- Brigitte (5/5): Morbider Charme und ungepflegte Anlage. Eigentlich alles „ruinös“… 🙈 - Das Zimmer war okay, auch sauber. Allerdings hatten wir Junior Suite gebucht und ein normales Doppelzimmer bekommen. Der Seaview war ein Witz, weil kein Meer zu sehen war. Auf Rückfrage hieß es, dass die Bäume einfach zu schnell gewachsen wären. Dahinter aber das Meer wäre… Alles sehr verfallen und auch wenig gepflegt. Egal ob Dusche, Strand, Terrasse oder Wege. Sehr morbide und überwiegend verwahrlost.

- Lukas S. (3/5): - Schönes Zimmer und Qualität des Essens war gut. Bei der Ankunft an der Rezeption haben wir uns durch die Art des Mitarbeiters leider nicht wirklich willkommen gefühlt. Viele der Liegen und Sonnenschirme am Strand sind leider defekt oder stark veraltet. Der Steg ins Meer wurde zurückgebaut und bislang nicht ersetzt. Auch die Plattform beim Restaurant war gesperrt, da sie laut Personal einsturzgefährdet ist – auf den Fotos war sie jedoch noch zu sehen. Beim Service kam es mehrmals zu kleinen Missverständnissen, und wir erhielten öfter das falsche Essen. Vielleicht würde etwas besseres Englisch hier helfen. Am ersten Tag war zudem die Pasta aus, obwohl nur wenige Gäste anwesend waren, was uns etwas verwundert hat. Auch Minze für einen Mojito war leider nicht vorhanden. Insgesamt hat das Hotel großes Potenzial – die Lage ist wunderschön und man könnte hier wirklich ein kleines Paradies schaffen. Aktuell würden wir es jedoch leider nicht weiterempfehlen.

- Patrick (6/5): Sehr schöne Lage, aber technisch liegt einiges im Argen - Es ist direkt an einem wunderschönen Strand . Das Personal ist sehr bemüht aber es geht halt alles ein wenig langsamer ( pole pole) Im Restaurant des Hotels bezahlt man europäische Preise. Die Spülung der Toilette lief ständig, dadurch wurde der Spülkasten nie voll. Der Druck der Spülung hat deswegen für "festes "nicht ausgereicht. Ich finde für 100€ die Nacht sollte man das erwarten können.

Nous étions 5 (2 adultes et 3 enfants) mais nous n'avions que 2 lits simples pour les enfants.. (Mais pour seulement 1 nuit, nous nous sommes débrouillés!)

Nous n’avons pas profiter de la piscine car pas encore nettoyée et ne l’a été qu’à partir de 10:30 Check out a 11:00… Le prix ne correspond pas du tout aux prestations proposées quand on compare avec d’autres hôtel dans le même coin.

- Erik (7/5): Unique atmosphere - Very unique place. Built among the ruins of a girls' school for liberated slaves. With a nice little (public) beach and pool. They're clearly trying to do something a little different here, which is very appreciated. Staff are friendly and welcoming; if you're there on a Wednesday they project a movie inside the ruins which makes for a cool experience. Friendly and helpful staff, overall highly recommended for a unique and laid back experience in Zanzibar. The food in the restaurant is not that good and quite expensive for what you get. Be aware that the lovely old pier is now gone (2025). Not many food options in the neighborhood, although there are a couple of nice local places if you walk all the way up to the junction with the main road. There isn't a shuttle to town; you'll be paying a high rate if you ask the hotel to arrange transfers for you. A bit disappointing that they charge the same rate for an airport transfer as from Stone town, given that the hotel is right next to the airport.

- Dominic (8/5): Neema und Jessica waren steht's bemüht und freundlich. - Die Freundlichkeit und und Hilfsbereitschaft des Personals so wie die Ruinen und der Park waren wunderschön! Leider nicht so wie auf der Homepage dargestellt, der Steg ist leider abgerissen zum größten Teil und die Terrasse war gesperrt. Leider hat das Hotel die besten Jahre hinter sich aber trotzdem würde ich es nochmal Buchen.

Emplacement parfait avec dépaysement total Cadre avec les ruines qui pourraient être magnifiques si elles étaient entretenues La chambre était très sale. La salle de bain pas nettoyée. La patron, autain, qui vous dit que le tarif de 160 euros est justifié avec une chambre dans cet état et qui ne se remet pas en question. Lieu insecurisant pour des enfants (ruines dangereuse) Plage et piscine privée accessible à tous pour 5 $, donc peu de place pour les clients qui en payé le prix fort ! Personnes habillées dans la piscine Transats très sales et déchirés Amphores cassés Chiens et chats en liberté dans tout le domaine et omniprésent y compris au restaurant Planches de la terrasse, heureusement fermée, qui sortent quand les employés marchent dessus Rembarde de l'escalier qui ne tient pas, très dangereux Moustiquaire trouée, lampe cassée, chaise branlante... La liste est longue... Je déconseille fortement cet établissement ! Cet une arnaque pour le prix ! Ce n'est pas du tout un 4 étoiles ! Il vaut mieux prendre un autre hôtel et payé 5$ pour profiter de la plage et de la piscine éventuellement ! Je pense que c'était un bel établissement autrefois mais qu'il n'a pas été entretenu et le patron continue à se renflouer les poches en prétextant que c'est un cadre sublime... Dommage car le lieu pourrait réellement l'être mais il n'y a aucun effort de fait et c'est vraiment sale et dangereux !

- Danuta (10/5): Bardzo miły pobyt…. - To już kolejna wizyta w tym hotelu, piękne otoczenie, mnóstwo zieleni. Wygodne , czyste pokoje, z balkonu widok na ocean. Piękna plaża. Bardzo miła i profesjonalna obsługa. Hotel godny polecenia. Wszystko nam się podobało ale posiłki nie spełniają naszych oczekiwań, bardzo skromny wybór, mięsa prawie nie ma.

Plaża, ocean, czego jeszcze można chcieć???!!! Jak zawsze - jedzenie - zbyt mały wybór. Nie ma tego co lubimy, niestety….
- Stephanie (10/5): Definitely recommend! - The food was the highlight for sure. We were surprised to see mixed reviews on their restaurant, when we found it VERY good. Their chapati might be the best we’ve had. Highly also recommend their wraps and hummus in particular. Everything else was very nice, the grounds were fun to explore. Also they arranged for our transport to an early flight and it was seamless. Everything was great! No dislikes. Maybe one thing is that the beach was very popular so there weren’t a lot of empty chaises. It was fine though as we spent most of our time in the water.
- Jan (8/5): Stadt- und Flughafennahes Hotel im schönen, tropisch paradiesischen Garten - In der Nähe vom Flughafen - der Flugbetrieb ist kaum wahrnehmbar - und Stonetown gelegen. Schöner tropischer Garten und komfortabel eingerichtete Zimmer. Ideal für Ausflüge nach Stonetown und/ oder vor der Abreise, um schnell zum Flughafen zu kommen. Gutes Restaurant mit einem schönen Blick auf das Meer und umliegende Inseln. Leider ist die Seebrücke nicht mehr vorhanden und eine Holzterasse am Restaurant war ebenfalls marode und deshalb gesperrt. Für einen Badeurlaub ist das Hotel nicht gut geeignet, da gibt es schönere und weitläufigere Strände.

- Christopher (6/5): Teure Mittelklasse - Gutes Frühstück immer frisch zubereitet. Balkon mit Blick auf den Strand Bad war miefig, Entspannung am Strand sehr schwer, da sehr laut. Insgesamt zu teuer für das was man bekommt.
- pearce (9/5): Superb location and great value for money - The location and setting were superb; its former name of jungle paradise was wholly appropriate. A short drive into Stonetown, 30 mins from Fumba (for an excellent boat trip) and 10 mins from the airport. This is not a high-end resort, but if you want a lovely, quiet beach, a restaurant with tasty food, a great view, and very attentive staff, all in a great location, come here. The decor and fitting could do with a touch-up - in my opinion, it added to the stay.

- Hom (9/5): Mbweni Ruins is really near the airport and quite lovely - I loved my room and the grounds of the hotel. The restaurant had a beautiful view and the gardens were lovely. I had a massage and it took place in my room, it would have been nice if there was a dedicated space to the spa services. I also wanted a facial but it wasnt available.

- Tanya (8/5): Very good - The Ruins are located in a lovely bay that is relatively quiet all day. Great swimming when the tide comes in. Beach not overrun with tourists. The beach is not very long. The local people come down to the beach in the evening to exercise and play football. This did not bother me, but it may be an issue with others.

- Jennifer (9/5): Relaxed natural setting. - The rustic, natural environment, and the clean, comfortable room. Great shower. The restaurant - beautiful, and reasonably priced, delicious healthful food. Nothing I didn’t like.
- Bhavini (10/5): Exceptional - I had the most amazing stay at Mbweni Ruins & Gardens. They got in touch to organise my transfer, which meant it was even easier to rearrange due to a cancelled flight! They picked me up at 4am, let me into my room and even allowed a late check out at 3pm so I could rest and have a slow start to the day. The food was also amazing (I highly recommend the Swahili spinach!) and I would absolutely recommend anyone stay here. It is close to the airport, has direct beach access and sits within the beautiful jungle, the ruins can be seen near the reception. If you are looking for a final stop off before a flight, or somewhere to stay after you've landed before you explore the city, please PLEASE stay here!
- David (6/5): - Very small hotel only 14 rooms, so don't expect a lot of people around. Extremely limited bar drinks options, as well as the breakfast food options. Shower didn't have enough pressure in my second floor room. Rooms very clean and well presented and AC worked well.
