• RICART75 (10/5): Step-back-in-time.... - As part of our extended 50th wedding anniversary--retracing our honeymoon trip; we decided to spend a night in Escanaba, as we did on our honeymoon, a half-century earlier. The motel we had stayed in back then, is apparently long gone; so we thought it'd be appropriate to stay in lodging, which carried the spirit of that time. This old-school, roadside motel, seemed to be a perfect option; and it was. Though our room was somewhat compact, it was very clean; with updated bathroom features, television and ac/heating. It had the step-back-in-time atmosphere, we had wanted; but with all today's expected conveniences. The check-in staff person was friendly, accommodating and provided excellent dining suggestions. Our dinner at the Freshwater Tavern, and breakfast at Family Inn Restaurant (just steps from our end room) were both exceptional (two of the best meals on our trip....see separate TA reviews). If one is looking for comfortable lodging, at a reasonable price; this facility offers a solid choice.

• suanner2025 (10/5): VERY CLEAN - This place was VERY clean. Seems to be newly remodeled, vinyl flooring, newly painted, updated walk-in shower. The beds were clean and very comfortable. Very reasonable rates. It was close to the road but the traffic noise didn't hinder our sleep. The staff that checked us in was very friendly and gave us several places to eat, not just the restaurant next door, even though that's where we ended up eating. The Family Inn Restaurant had very friendly wait staff and the food was great. We would definitely stay here again.
• Michael (10/5): Huzzah Sunset Lodge! - I've stayed here many times. This is a wonderful roadside motel. Spotlessly clean, updated, <5 minutes to Escanaba proper, very comfortable beds, quiet. These folks are doing everything well.

• rc208 (10/5): A pleasant surprise - You take your chances with these small "mom and pop" places along the highways in the UP, but we lucked out with this one. Very friendly staff, VERY clean rooms (we stayed twice - once on the way downstate and once on the way back home). We especially appreciated the room with 3 beds - those are hard to find but it was just what we were looking for. In one of our rooms the bathroom shower was very tiny but in the next one, there was a large updated tub/shower. Glad we found this place, great job Sunset Lodge!

Shower in the bathroom is large, water pressure was a bit low but got the job done. Accidentally left something in the room and staff was wonderful and called as soon as they noticed. Would definitely stay here again.

The water pressure was good and the temperature got hot. With it being near the road, you can hear some road traffic but it surprisingly didn’t affect my sleep at all. It was also COLD outside and the heat kept the room plenty warm. The place is nothing fancy, but it's affordable, clean, and a comfortable stay. Would stay here again!

• Nanatammi (8/5): Nice mom and pop lodge - I asked for a room closer to the family restaurant to walk to, I should have asked for a room with 2 double beds. Our room was nice and clean but just too cramped for my taste. The door hit the bed when you walked in. The area by the bathroom has a table and chairs, microwave and frig. The bathroom was renovated but it lacked ample shelf space and there was no fan. You had to ope the window to vent the steam. I made the choice to chose a room with one bed, so that I on me but I will say looking at the pictures I thought it was larger. Good thing I brought an eye mask as each room had a light outside on all night long and there wasn't black out curtains. We were going to stay 4 nights but we did everything we wanted in 2 days so we left early. ALWAYS BOOK DIRECTLY WITH ANY PLACE YOU STAY! I was able to get a refund for the remaining 2 days at I booked directly with the lodge. It worked for what we needed for 2 days. The room was clean, the bed was good. I have a bad back so it wasn't the greatest for me. My hubby slept well! All in all it was a good stay!

There was road noise but it did die down when it got dark out. The only negative was the water pressure was really low. Also it took time for the water to get warm. Maybe it was just a problem in our room 19. Felt wasteful to run the water that long to get it warm. We stayed 2 nights. Fit our needs. Price was reasonable. We would definitely stay again.

Rooms were comfortable and the outside spaces has several picnic tables to enjoy the beautiful UP summer. A pasty shop not far (other eating places nearby but why get anything but a pasty) and a quick drive to the quaint downtown and lake front park. The only downside is that the motel does sit close to a busy 4 lane but bring a fan or white noise machine and you will be fine.
