Guest Reviews
- V1496STmarkc (4/5): Data Breach and tired room - My wife and I had been really looking forward to our stay at Crazy Bear Beaconsfield, especially given the reputation of the area and what we expected from the brand. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations from the very beginning.
Prior to our visit, we were affected by a serious data breach involving the hotel’s systems, which led to fraudsters attempting to contact us and access our money via phone and text. While Crazy Bear did formally acknowledge the breach, the response felt minimal and dismissive, amounting to little more than a brief apology, with no meaningful reassurance or follow-up.
On arrival, things didn’t improve. We turned up just 45 minutes early and were asked to pay an additional £20 to access our room ahead of check-in time, which felt unreasonable and set a poor tone for the stay.
The room itself was extremely disappointing, particularly as we had paid for an upgrade. It was visibly tired and in need of maintenance, with several cracked mirrors, damaged pipework, and a bath that was scratched and worn. Overall, it lacked the quality and attention to detail we had expected and certainly didn’t justify the upgrade.
In summary, the entire experience was underwhelming and nowhere near what we had anticipated. There are clear issues here that the brand needs to address, both in terms of customer service and basic upkeep. Sadly, we won’t be returning anytime soon, and I would recommend others consider alternative options for a trip away.
- R8144FSjos (2/5): Lazy bear - So sad to have to write this. We have amazing memories of the crazy bear and we’re so excited when my mother in law booked for us for my partners bday present (kid free for the night). We deliberately upgraded to the top room to have a superking bed as I have a major shoulder issue and my partner has a bad hip.
Reception were lovely, we arrived early and had some drinks in the bar. They told us our room was ready but it was £25 to check in 30 mins earlier. Strange. We were in the bar so declined and waited to pop our bits in at 3pm. Upon checking the room, it was a smaller bed. They said only two of those rooms with superking and couldn’t change us. Very disappointed and should make this clear online. We were in room 2 facing the street which was noisy and window seemed like it had a large breeze coming through. Leak in the bathroom and very tatty looking. The bed was sock hard and we barely slept.
Lady with the braids who served us at the bar was miserable unless chatting to her mates. Sadly she “served” us again for breakfast the next day and was pretty rude.
Breakfast…. Truly expect a hot breakfast when you pay the amount of money this hotel costs. Nope - choose some pastries etc off the menu which took over 35 mins to arrive even though the place was dead.
Sadly the Thai restaurant which used to be amazing was a huge let down. Set menu was pre cooked and zero flavour. Came out within three mins off us ordering. Staff were lovely though.
Was asked about our trip when we left and shared our disappointment. They just said, sorry have a safe trip home. Absolutely gutted to have experienced this as it’s always been so amazing. I’d prefer to save my pennies and book a premier inn and visit a beautiful restaurant than return to crazy bear. If anything changes we would love to come back. But pretty disappointed at the level it is at the moment with the money and time spent.
- Discover689098 (2/5): NO LONGER 5 STAR TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT WONT BE RETURNING - BIRTHDAY STAY - TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT We used to frequent The Crazy Bear but the last time we visited was approximately 2022 as we moved house. We thought it would be great to book in again for my wife’s birthday and travelled 90 minutes to get there. We purchased a Groupon voucher but upgraded to the ‘decadent’ room which was the most expensive (and their best room available) so paid £299 for bed, evening meal and continental breakfast. What a disappointment! The old style had gone, all the animals had gone, and so all the quirkiness was no longer! The communal areas were still opulent but it has lost all the things that made it ‘crazy’ that unique appeal! We were disgusted by the bedroom and the bathroom. The copper bath was tired, pealing and now stained, the sink in the bathroom and the mirror were disgraceful, limescale and disfigured mirror stains and the copper basin very deteriorated. The mirror wall tiles many of them severely cracked, the windows in the bedroom have a plasterboard blocking them (which is the back of the restaurant) so no light can get in whatsoever (room no 7) plus all you could see is a drainpipe and hoarding. The coffee machine didn’t work, so we couldn’t even have a coffee in the room and the least there could have been a biscuit! The bed wasn’t even that greatly comfortable. Premier Inn mattresses much more comfortable! The food was a choice of 4 mains we chose the salmon and duck, but the choices were very limited. The portions were small and the meal offered was a 2-course meal. There were no extras like bread and when we left the restaurant we were both still hungry. Luckily, we had some snacks we had brought with us (crisps and chocolate) as there wasn’t even a biscuit to have with the coffee (although it wouldn’t have mattered, I suppose because the coffee machine didn’t’ work so we couldn’t make ourselves a coffee as they were those little pods! Overall, a complete disappointment. Rated a 5 star?? It might have been 5 or 10 years ago, but we have frequented many hotels across the globe and the UK and for £299 for a night there is much better on offer! We were going to return for afternoon tea and bring some friends for their 60th birthday but after this experience it’s a no for us and we won’t be returning nor would we recommend again!
- H9752VCvickis (2/5): Be wary - Myself and my friend stayed here for my 50th birthday. Room 14
We couldn’t get parked and called the hotel for help, only to be told there is free parking everywhere. Yes it may be free but where?
We checked in and were taken across the street to another building, this wasn’t apparent upon booking, to a random air bnb traffic cones behind bushes. Carpet needed a good cleaning and we had a graveyard as a garden. Snug room more like bruise your body lose a toe bang your head. Room
We went for cocktails waited outside in whats meant to be a pool area. Mmm. 10 mins later no drinks. My friend went to look for the bartender only to have our drinks pointed at, at the end of the bar. Just left there….. luckily I took a trip to the toilet and it’s so dark I nearly took a tumble, couldn’t find the toilet door, pulled a curtain back and nearly walked into a wall! No I wasn’t drunk! girls were in the toilet and told me a lot of people have accidents one woman had cut her head so badly had to go to A&E. (Her mum works there)
We bought two more cocktails and halfway through girl came over and said I forgot to light it to give you the experience. Bless her she tried to light a sugar cube that was halfway down the glass…. It’s so dark
On booking the hotel knew it was my 50th. I’m sitting wereing a bloody badge saying 50 and darling fried gave me a pink sash saying 50 (tied that to my bag)
There was nothing. No happy birthday just nothing!
We came back after being out for dinner had a few more cocktails chatted with other guests and went back to our room.
Around midnight we called reception enquiring about food. Yes they had stopped serving and it took over 20 mins for manager Louise to advise I walk to a kebab van! Yeah a woman in an unknown area being advised to walk to a kebab van. I have nothing against kebabs but no. I asked and asked for where was near for deliveroo and was told it’s not company policy. I called again, ignored. Called again, ignored and I ran across the street to reception in my dressing gown. Herself and companion were so rude I said nothing and walked back in my dressing gown across the zebra crossing past the traffic cone into the lobby that stunk of cannabis. !
We hardly slept due to the poor aircon and the windows didn’t not open. I was up and down all night but was extremely respectful of other guests.
We attended breakfast roughly 7.30am and paid for a late checkout 1pm. I wanted to give it another chance. Yes our previous room was rubbish, and yes the night staff were seriously put out at having to work. £343 decadent room. £50 late check out.We decided to give the crazy bear another chance and booked a larger room in the main building for that evening.
At 12.50 We took the room key to reception asked if they could call us if the room was free earlier. We were going for lunch and some fizz and were told. ‘Yes absolutely no problem’!!
2.15pm I received a call from shane something. I thought great our rooms ready we can take the cases back and really have a lovely day……..NO
He told me we were not welcome due to ordering cocktails at 11 am rude to staff and upsetting all other guests in our block. . They also had to compensate all other guests in our block due to the noise. I was in absolute tears. Louise expected me to drive after having drinks with lunch. Shane threatened me. Other guests got involved at the poor behaviour of the staff, two of which had been Compt for a previous visit. Shane is so unbelievably hostile. Louise just doesn’t listen.
So Louise eventually agreed to pay for a taxi to another hotel and a return. Here’s the best bit
I got a message through on my phone just after 3pm. Our booking had been cancelled at 9.34am and they took our late checkout 1pm out fee. They only told us 5 hours later. Humiliated us infront of others guests and fail to see the error.
We weren’t loud. We had the door open now and then due to poor ventilation but were late 40’s and 50. We’re not raging party animals. So 10 rooms didn’t make a call during the noise but instead all rooms did it on check out?? The hotel knowing we were still in our room as we had paid for a letter check out didn’t bother advising us, no they left it 5 hours.
We checked at 3pm when we arrived at our new hotel and the crazy bear was fully
booked!!!!!
If we had been so aggressive and drunk surely we wouldn’t have been served alcohol.
I’ve never stayed anywhere like this. Not a positive.
It was my 50th birthday!
I have asked repeatedly what time all the guests complained. Louise didn’t know. Hadn’t checked the logs????
I am currently speaking to Anna who has been completely professional to try and resolve this. Unfortunately though it’s happened
- N4331CKcraigs (6/5): Save your money!! - We had been planning a visit to the crazy bear for a long time and finally got around to it this weekend. I booked a 'Decadent' room for my wife and I for a night away to ourselves and as a little treat for our 50th birthdays.
Upon arrival, it was clear parking was an issue, but we managed to get a spot outside the hotel.
When being shown to our Decadent room, we noted the bar area and we were disappointed to note a number of people in there wearing dirty tracksuit bottoms. Not the clientele we had expected.
On our way up to the room, i was hoping (from the pictures we had seen) to have the 'wow' factor. The room itself (Room 2), although pleasant, was well, a little but 'Meh' to be honest. It cost £430 for the night. But we quickly realised it was a hugely over inflated price for what we actually received. It was clean, spacious and decorated well, but the mirrored tiles in the bathroom were cracked and broken, curtains were not hanging correctly and there was a draft coming through, tea/coffee making facilities were poor with no snack selections and not mini fridge. At £430, I expected more by means of facilities. There was a leak from the ceiling dripping next to the toilet, limescale all around every water outlet, and the lighting was confusing to work and the room too dark. So much so, I whacked my knee on the bed post and cut it!
The bar area was ok. We expected more opulence however. Dinner was ok-ish. We had planned to get dressed up for dinner, but quickly realised that amongst the other guests and lack of dress code, we would have been severely overdressed. So didn't bother. As my wife said - eating a cheese burger in a posh frock didn't really feel right!
The staff were friendly and welcoming and service was good.
Overall, it was a disappointment. If the room had of been £200, I would have still questioned why it was so much, but it most definitely wasn't worth £430!
Will we be coming back to stay again?? Absolutely not. More amenities in a premier inn at a quarter of the cost!
- heathergX4431ZC (8/5): Pleasant but not outstanding - Myself and my husband stayed for one night and had dinner in the Thai restaurant. The food was nice, not excellent.
All staff were polite and well spoken.
I was a bit disappointed that the decor wasn't as good as the photos or compared to the other hotel.
The room was nice but the tap in the bathroom ( room 9 ) was just dribbling out and the sink was too far forward to catch the water properly when washing your hands. You couldn't use it to fill anything quickly and I feel this was so you would purchase the bottled water.
I was looking forward to using the bath but the water came out so slowly and was boiling hot so I gave up on it. Not sure I would book again for the same price.
- X2094VRjackh (6/5): Not Worth the Money – Misleading Rooms and Underwhelming Facilities - We recently stayed at the Crazy Bear Hotel and had a fairly mixed experience.
The staff overall were very nice and welcoming during our stay. However, when we shared some feedback at checkout, the response felt quite defensive, which was a little disappointing.
One of the main issues was the “Snug” room. The photos online are quite misleading and make the room appear much larger than it actually is. In reality, the space felt very cramped and somewhat claustrophobic. I’m not a tall man, but I still managed to hit my head multiple times getting out of bed due to the low ceiling and tight layout. While the bed itself was comfortable enough, the room simply didn’t feel worth the price we paid.
The pool is another feature that looks very appealing online, but unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. The pictures suggest a vibrant, open space with seating and a lively atmosphere, but in reality it felt quite the opposite. The water was freezing cold and the area lacked the ambience the photos imply, so I wouldn’t recommend choosing the hotel for this feature alone.
On the positive side, the Thai restaurant was very good, the cocktails were excellent, and the massage was also a highlight of the stay.
Overall, the hotel has the feel of a quirky boutique property that became popular and then tried to maximise space by squeezing rooms in wherever possible. We were told there are around 35 rooms spread across multiple buildings, and we weren’t even staying in the main hotel but across the street.
In summary, there are some enjoyable elements here, but for the price point we expected a lot more — particularly when it comes to the rooms and facilities matching what’s advertised online.
- JamieM933 (2/5): Total disappointment - I have wanted to stay at a Crazy Bear for a long time now, but have never got round to it, but finally found the right time to stop by on the way to the Cotswolds.
The reviews are not amazing, average below 4, but surely this can’t be right. Nope. It was wrong. No way would I say that it warrants that high a mark.
The room we stayed in was damp, it smelt damp from the moment we got in and let them know. They didn’t do anything about that.
The WiFi and TV didn’t work. Had to call someone into the room. Met with the comment “it is a known issue in this room”. Then fix it!!!
The shower was not hot. It was like warm. It was pointless having a cold tap. You would never use it at all. We called someone out. And were told the boiler would be rebooted. And had to wait. By 11.15pm the water was still not hot. The following day, the same.
Tile on the bathroom floor was cracked and loose. It will cut someone’s foot. They were not bothered when o told them.
Thai food. Pretty bland. Had to send a dish back as there was no flavour.
Breakfast in the morning. Meh. Poached egg looked hard boiled.
Attitude of the management. Poor.
However , after complaining they have given me a staggering £35 refund.
There is a reason it is rated as the 5th best hotel in the village out of 5.
Save your money people. Head someone else where the hotel is better and the staff want to be there.
- teganw141 (6/5): Nice experience but loud dripping noise disturbing sleep - Would of got a higher rating if we managed to get some sleep, frustratingly as much as we loved the room and had a great experience, we struggled sleeping due to a loud dripping noise coming from the ceiling into the bath. It was very frustrating and we barely got any sleep. Myself I was in and out of sleep all night due to not being able to sleep during the sound. We tried placing towels in the bath to muffle the sound but actually made it worse.
I feel slightly more frustrated due to the fact I actually paid extra to stay in the top room (descendent) and felt like I couldn’t even enjoy it.
We also had to travel a few hours there and back and made the drive unpleasant on the way back home due to lack of sleep.
However we had food at the Thai restaurant which was lovely
I like the quirky vibe however I would not pay the price I paid to stay there again.
- mandymD2977PJ (8/5): Great experience - My only moan was the lighting (or lack of) in the room. I understand and enjoy the atmosphere of the lighting but it would be good if it was adjustable. The staff were great and the food top class so would definitely return and recommend
- MrsDfromLB (6/5): Wouldn't stay here again..... - My husband booked a one night stay here through Wowcher, as a surprise, which included dinner, 2 x glasses of champagne and continental breakfast. Upon arrival by car, although the pretty town was fairly busy, we found a place to park opposite the hotel itself for the entirety of our stay. There are quite a number of parking places/areas you can park for the night, all free of charge. Upon checking in at reception we were shown to our room. (Room 7) . The first and most noticeable thing about the room is how very dark it is, this may have something to do with the fact that the only windows were three small oval shaped windows which you could not see out of as they were blocked on the outside by walls which were lined with plasterboard! This made me feel very claustrophobic from the word go. The lighting could not be turned up at all to brighten the room in any shape or form. Having said this, I completely understand that this was part of the "ambiance" overall. But it would be nice to have had a choice. I myself, am not a big makeup wearer, however if you are, be prepared for not really being able to see what you are doing! Overall the room was, in our opinion, rather on the small side and the completely padded walls, floors and ceiling gave us the impression that we were in a padded shoe box, apart from the mirror on the ceiling above the bed! There was a lovely (well used) copper bath at the end of the bed, which apparently was filled by the ceiling tap, but we did not use this. The bathroom was at the end of the room, door being a heavy draped velvet curtain. This was mirror tiled throughout, but unfortunately a large number of the tiles were cracked with numerous large cracks and clearly needed replacing/refurbishing, again the bathroom was very low lit. We had our glasses of champagne seated at the bar before dinner, which was quite a nice atmosphere. We had the choice of eating from the two restaurants, English or Thai, but unfortunately the English was closed on this particular evening (Wednesday) so we had to opt for the Thai, just as well we love Thai food! The food and the service in the Thai restaurant were very good indeed! Our breakfast in the morning was booked in for 9.30 and it was not busy at all. The choice of continental breakfast was very good and the service again was very good.
We wouldn't book a stay here at The Crazy Bear again, as it wasn't really our 'cup of tea'. Overall in our opinion the whole place needs a good refurb as there are so many things that are looking tired, or as in our room things that need to be fixed or attended to, which is a shame as it is such an old lovely building and could be tip top! As my husband says, the only way to describe this hotel is "MARMITE" :)
- RKW12345 (4/5): Did we just stay in a brothel? - The hotel does state it’s a bit unusual which is fine. But for £342 for room only we were not expecting tiny cramped rooms (we tried 2) that you accessed by leaving the hotel and walking down the street / across the road to one of their 9 buildings. More like an Airbnb.
Some would say beautifully furnished and yes a fortune has been spent but so blingy.
Rest of hotel was cramped / overfull.
- elliecX9806SS (10/5): It’s worth every penny - We had the most amazing time at The Crazy Bear, we were shown over to our room which was number 23. I had opted for the Romance bundle and a bottle of rose champagne which went down a treat! The sharing steak was delicious along with the Chi Chi cocktails. All staff were so friendly and really went above and beyond. Cannot wait to book another stay!
- W7286ZPsaraha (10/5): Something different - Had a lovely time, the staff are so nice, the food was lush and super cocktails thank you.
- B6950SPkiml (4/5): “Ok” - Room 47 (across the road!)
We arrived 1/3/26 & were greeted warmly. We were early so were offered an early check in if our room was ready. for an extra £25. 45 minutes before the confirmed check in I received a call saying we could now go our room for £25 - in hindsight we should have waited & put that £25 towards the exorbitant drinks prices.
We were hugely shocked when the receptionist started taking us out the hotel door, up the street, across the road, down the street to a door to a street house. She took us upstairs to ‘our room’. It is not stated on their website or in any correspondence, that the Crazy Bear Hotel Rooms are scattered all up & across the road!!!!! There was no outside light by the front door & with a very uneven pavement that is an accident waiting to happen.
The room was so dark - decadent not! You didn’t walk in there & feel a sense of luxury or wealth. Everything was black - no oppulent accessories or colour that we could see at that point. The room stank of a very stale odour - the sofa stank too. Which by the way needs replacing as the seats tilted back when you sat down which was so uncomfortable. The leather has worn at the bottom making it look so shabby. The tiny wardrobe in the room only held 2 dressing gowns - no other hangers.
The bathroom was lovely & no complaints from us there. That was luxurious, except for the build up of green scale in the rain shower head - maybe that was the decadent part!
The chalk build up on the shower head & the ceiling tap for the bath in the main room was disgusting & very visible even in that darkness. The dust in the air con unit was absolutely shocking - filthy & thick masses of dust - a health hazard! The air vent in the wall was old, cracked & again dusty. The room was so stuffy but we didn’t want to use the air con due to amount of dust sat in there, so we had the windows open which let in all the road traffic noise. There was a huge gap under our main door so we heard a saw shadows every time our neighbours came in or out so we felt a huge lack of privacy. It was so noisy.
Not that the reservations team would have known but I buried my sister last week so when we opened the blinds to our room to look outside there we were struck with a church & cemetery. My husband took me away to get away from all that. Horrid view.
Staff: are amazing - so polite, attentive & professional 10/10.
Food: incredible - we had the 12-plate Thai tasting menu - it was faultless & staff attentive.
Breakfast was continental but really good. Plenty to eat, as much as you like but this is continental - if you want a cooked breakfast this is an extra charge!
Would we come back? No, for the price that you pay there is far better elsewhere. It’s very expensive to go & drinks are extortionate. The rooms need updating as they just look tired & smelly.
All in all a great disappointment.
- S7058SWjackr (6/5): Boujee Room - Stayed here for my partners birthday. The room was abit dated and dark we had problems with the lighting. Walking round with our phone torch. Lights above the bath didn’t work. The staff tried to fix them gave us another lamp still didn’t really help. The bar and the thai restaurant was nice. The staff was helpful in ways but the hotel does need a spruce up in areas. Carpet up the stairs need attention not really worth the money you pay for it.
- 235jaynef (8/5): Stunning setting - Absolutely amazing. So different and lavish was a great setting for our 20yr wedding anniversary.
One feedback would be there was no light into the dressing table or bright enough light into it so couldn’t do your make up in there.
- 512katrinah (10/5): Glitz and Glam - My partner and I had an overnight stay here Fri night, absolutely superb. We have stayed at the Oxford venue before which is fabulous but this one is definitely "glitz and glam", we stayed in Room 29, really spacious, spotlessly clean,. We ate in the Thai restaurant , the meal and service was excellent.
Staff in the hotel are a credit to the hospitality sector.
We hope to return in the future.
Many Thanks for a splendid stay.
- 621cliveb (10/5): Sumptuous stay - Luxury in every possible way. Towels and bedding were equally sumptuous quality.
Staff well trained in customer service to enhance our excellent stay.
- lyleb182 (10/5): Sarina had amazing customer service - Sarina have us great customer service throughout the whole night. She explained every dish and made us feel so welcome. She really made the whole experience 10x better. Thank you Sarina, you’re amazing :)
- GuidaF (10/5): Just a little note - Just a little note-showers need a hand shower as not everyone want to wash their hair. We mention to front desk and been informed that some rooms have it but I think all rooms need it. Thank you for lovely stay. Mr & Mrs Fernandes
- Discover01461550194 (10/5): Great place - A great place with great staff. Only thing was nowhere to put your things in the wet room in the cosy room. Other than that all good.
- sandrasN4900QX (8/5): Really nice stay - We arrived on site and were immediately checked in by the receptionist and shown to our room (30)
The room is very plush and met our expectations mostly. We did notice a smell of damp in the room later in the day which we reported to reception on checkout as it didn’t affect our stay hugely.
If I had one request it is that there is an option to have the lights much brighter if needed, particularly when we were getting ready for our meal.
Having the dark look is great for romance but sometimes you need a brighter area!
We were booked into the Thai restaurant and had the tasting menu which was excellent. We love Thai food and the dishes were of a great standard as was the service by the restaurant staff.
The bar was lovely and the waiting staff efficient and friendly.
A really nice stay with free parking on street which is unheard of and much appreciated!
- 13seanw (10/5): Great Thai experience - Really great Thai food & service
Had a great time - having the 12 course menu
Food looked and tasted great and the service was friendly and attentive
We had a lovely time
- O3809UZpalomap (4/5): Terrible experience, Crazy Bear Beaconsfield lost its' way - Location Beaconsfield.
We have visited the Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield several times in the past and always enjoyed the quirky atmosphere and friendly staff. We always rated it highly and decided to return for an overnight stay to celebrate my birthday.
The hotel accommodation:
We arrived and were checked into our room by a friendly receptionist. The room was quiet dark, two lights in the bathroom were not working, which made it very dingy.
We realised the shower head was completely broken, so we could not shower before dinner, upon investigation by two staff members we were moved to a different room. By then we were late for our dinner reservation.
The room we were moved into was more spacious and the shower worked, but the floor was uneven which was not very suitable for my husband, who’s recovering from a stoke and found it quite unsettling to walk around. Staff insight into Health & Safety would have been welcomed.
The room was clean enough, but one of two ladies toilet at the bar was all blocked and smelly.
The restaurant:
We then went to dinner in the Thai restaurant. The food was terrible: it was served cold, the starters were a massive let down: chicken soup was watery, unseasoned with rubbery chicken, the veggie dim sum was tasteless and under-cooked with some watery sauce over it, the salad was so sour we couldn’t eat it, and the green peas were hard and too spicy; we could not eat any of it! We mentioned our disappointment to the very helpful hostess and said we hoped the main course would be better.
The main course was a follow up disaster: the beef dish was so chewy it could not be eaten; the chicken was unseasoned, the Pad-Thai was simply shocking and seemed like re-heated food, the sea bass was just about eatable with a hint of lemon grass.
In the end, we were offered some coconut ice-cream as dessert, it was 22:00, too late for us to dine anywhere else, so we went to bed hungry, fed-up and terribly disappointed with our experience.
Thai food lovers stay away, this is the worst, most underwhelming Thai food experience you will ever encounter.
The next morning our breakfast was pleasant, which was the one small saving grace of the whole experience.
The staff were graceful enough and provided a good service but the experience of staying-in and dining was a huge let-down. Definitely not good value for money for an over-night stay at £300+.
Such a shame the Crazy Bear Beaconsfield has lost its' way; it is a loss to the Town and a bigger loss for all people of good taste.
- F551LRjohnn (10/5): Amazing - The staff at this establishment go above and beyond to ensure their customers satisfaction, in particular I would like give a huge thanks to, Chloe, Jess and Mia for their exemplary service and exquisite handling of any situation, I will be personally recommending them to the owner for some kind of promotion, they are a credit to your establishment
- nicolawN7524IN (2/5): Sad to see it’s gone so downhill. - "To start the cocktails weren’t up to par and we had to get up and go to the bar to ask for drinks and they weren’t even busy. We’ve spent years travelling thailand and used to consider crazy bear thai the most authentic. We decided go Go for the taster menu and quite honestly it just didn’t taste anywhere near like it used to and both my husband and I woke up so thirsty I can only assume it was laden with msg. I’ve had better more tastier thai from an m and s deal. It’s so sad. We were so exci..."
- Pioneer51836459531 (10/5): Amazing ! - My experience was amazing very lovely staff they were amazing .. food and service is good in Thai restaurant.
- Flusted (10/5): Good time had - Booked using a "wowcher" deal which included breakfast and Thai 12 plate dinner for my wife as a surprise for her birthday.
I did read the mixed reviews before booking but thought it take a gamble.
I had booked a decadent room, and when we arrived and was shown our room the first thing I noticed was the tap for the bath was dripping but it cones from the ceiling!. To be honest I didnt mention to reception as it didnt affect us but im not 1 to complain over minor issues.
We headed over for the Thai food and it was lovely, then headed to the bar area where the waiter was very polite and kept checking we were ok for drinks.
I read there was a dress code for no trainers or sportswear but I think virtually every male i saw had trainers on although smart.
All in all a great experience if you go open minded
- djlusinda (10/5): Experience opulence worthy of Queen Cleopatra - For my birthday the ultimate trip would be the creme de la creme of opulence.. nowhere compares to a crazy bear experience. This is my Fourth trip to a crazy bear hotel and they couldn't have made it more special this time. We had the most beautiful one thanks to a wonderful lady called Chloe who made sure that my birthday stay was the best it could be. Then we had the 10 course Thai tasting meal which couldn't have been more home away from home from Thailand. All the staff have impeccable manners. The place is wonderfully kept and basically I struggle to keep my jaw closed. I could not recommend this place more if you want to indulge and treat yourself like a princess, crazy bear is the place to be. I'd like to personally thank a young lady called Chloe who made our stay at the hotel 10 out of 10 and whose professional touch made the experience worthy of Queen Cleopatra. #crazybear @richardbooth @tometridge
- lisacG3870FS (8/5): Perfect stay - We really enjoyed our stay at the crazy bear, the staff were friendly and helpful especially Anna .
We had the Thai meal which was very good and cocktails were 10/10 .
We stayed in room 1 which we loved it was very spacious and of course had the copper bath! There was plenty of hot water.
As much as we loved the whole experience the room was tired the curtain for the bathroom had a nail on the runner so was never closing , the blinds were knackered and the bath had a leak which made the floor slippy.
None of these things spoilt our stay and would highly recommend.
- M2813LHmichaelac (2/5): Not had deposit back after 12 days!! NO HOT WATER - Room 8 quite shabby - Stayed in Room 8 - still waiting for my £150.00 deposit to be returned 12 days later!! Despite being told it would only be a couple of days. Room at first glance nice but very dark. NO HOT WATER, unable to have shower in the morning. Lots of cracked tiles everywhere, broken mirrored ceiling, cobwebs under bed, mattress covered in someone else's hair! Light switches impossible to work, very very dark room, no good for attempting to put makeup on. Parking outside awful.
Having said this staff are very nice and friendly.
Very disappointed that despite calling hotel twice and being told my refund would be another "day or so" I still have not received it back.
Be keen to hear back from Manager who I have messaged also.
- csace (6/5): Unusual, interesting but challenging at times - Having stayed at 5 star hotel and resorts around the world I can categorically state that this is NOT a 5 star venue.
The USP is valid, yes: its different, boutique, unexpected but there is lots of room for improvement.
Correspondance is over the top, I received up to 10 emails and 3 texts prior to the visit, some of these asking me to check in online repeatedly, which is both unnecessary and time consuming. At one point a text was sent from “CBB” (?) confirming the restaurant booking, the booking details were wrong, (wrong date) and I had to ring the venue to confirm that it was indeed from them, and to correct the mistake.
We found parking to be chaotic and difficult and had a lengthy walk to the hotel in the freezing cold. Reception was welcoming and proficient and the receptionist took us through the venue to our room explaining some of the features and location of the restaurants etc. She was thorough, but talked very fast without facing us so was hard to hear and understand, very scripted and not natural nor warm.
The one thing that we wish had been explained and wasn’t is the lighting controls, we found them confusing and difficult.
The bed was very comfortable but the décor a little tired, many broken tiles and some fixtures hanging loosely off the walls, one bedside lamp had a broken/intermittent connection at the plug which is of course dangerous as well as annoying.
The lack of door on the adjoining bathroom (a curtain is provided) is disconcerting, effects privacy and means that if visiting in the middle of the night the automatic bathroom light (no switch) illuminates the bedroom, even with the curtain closed.
The restaurant at dinner was mostly very good, food was good but the set menu limited and service was professional, courteous, genuine, thoughtful and attentive. But, please don’t sit couples so close together when the restaurant is empty.
Breakfast was less inspiring, the entrance to the breakfast area is cramped and people waiting to be seated were in the way of guests leaving. Service was slow and a few things forgotten. Servers were friendly and polite but unable to manage the number of guests effectively.
As a final note, I received another email after the visit, asking for feedback. This was from a no-reply email and had no link to a page to write feedback. Hence I have ended here after a web search
- S7744DNpetert (10/5): Thai Lunch at Crazy Bear - We went to the Thai restaurant in Crazy Bear Beaconsfield with family today including parents, and everyone genuinely loved it, which is saying something. :)
The coconut soup was outstanding, rich, fragrant, and comforting without being heavy. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked and soaked up all the flavour, and the fish dish was fresh, delicate, and really well balanced. Properly good food done with care.
The interior is bold and theatrical, but in a way that feels sophisticated and fun rather than being overly dramatic, the atmosphere worked well for a family meal and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Parents were especially impressed, which is always the real test.
Thank you for the excellent service from Elcy,Sarina and Cristina
- 206katea (8/5): A good night away, but a bit rough round the edges. - Have just arrived home from a night at Beaconsfield hotel, parking is not clear it would be great if you could write on your website that There is no specific carpark but the whole of beaconsfield is free to park.
We were welcomed by a young lady at reception who explained everything we needed to know and then she showed us to our room on the 2nd floor, the staircase was a little shabby, carpet threadbare in places. Our room was lovely at first sight but as we spent a little time, the problems started appearing, a large crack across the tile in the bathroom floor, mirrors had not been cleaned as dust everywhere, taps and showers covered in lime scale the delightful big copper bath needed a good sort as covered in scratches, the wall paper was peeling off. All of this seems such a shame as the hotel could be so beautiful it certainly isn’t the 5⭐️ it says.
A couple of points the room could most certainly do with is more light, I appreciate it’s the look you are going for but not being able to see to check all our belongings on leaving and having to use my phones torch to look, and the bathroom radiators were so hot but we couldn’t see anywhere to turn these off or down.
The saving grace for our night away was the superb food and beverages , we tried the 12 course taster menu in the Thai restaurant which was delicious, the waitresses were so accommodating nothing was too much and the food was simply delicious, the flavours worked so well and then the cocktails yum, especially the banoffee martini 😀
The Crazy bear could be wonderful it just needs a lot more tender loving care.
- linziloo1234 (2/5): Dangerous rooms - Avoid!! - The property is outdated not fit for purpose and dangerous. The rooms appear fine on the surface, but I advise you to avoid at all cost.
There is no hot water to the baths advertised, The electrical functions don’t work (light switches are hit and miss). The rooms are not safe - very low lighting and broken tiles around the bath. You will get hurt, like we did. AVOID!
- 479michelleh (2/5): Very Disappointed - DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 8 - Sadly we were very disappointed with our stay.
It was a Christmas night away.
We stayed in room 8
No hot water to have a bath with the feature online with the cast iron bath.
The bathroom the sink water was a dribble. I couldn't even wash my face or hands properly.
The room was very worn and tired. the lights didnt work either, no lighting to do my makeup. Only 1 cats eye light worked.
No plug socket near the mirror which was in a closet door to do my hair with a hotbrush and straightners.
The only positive was the food in the restaurant.
I wouldnt stay here again.
- jamiewF5610MT (10/5): Boxing Day - Came on Boxing Day with family. Food was very good and so was the service. Had a singer in the bar after who was really good and sang all sorts rather than the same old you get at other places - all round had a great night
- Hmell (6/5): Would not choose to stay again, but not much choice in Beaconsfield! - My brother had booked to stay 5 nights - visiting family, would not again, 'Snug' room in the building opposite, he found it cramped (on his own!) Probably OK for most people - just staying one night.
Could not open windows (why?) so condensation every day. You can see this is a problem in many Crazy Bear rooms - lack of ventilation.
- Y3871SYleew (2/5): Not worth the money - Rooms are not worth the money, they are tired rundown and far from luxury.
I was offered 50% off a future stay but I have no desire to return. No other form of compensation was offered.
There are much nicer places to stay for the same money.
- johnson53Uk (10/5): Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield - I took my family here for Christmas Day lunch. We were a party of 10, including three children. I cannot praise the restaurant highly enough, the service we received was impeccable, the food delicious, and the ambience was really lovely. All of the staff were so friendly and efficient.
- P3873RYsusanr (10/5): Fabulous - Our stay at the crazy bear was amazing from start to finish. Our room was amazing and well decorated for a birthday. Very clean and tidy, could not fault it. Very single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond in what they do. So polite, friendly and helpful. The English restaurant was absolutely delicious, our waitress went above and beyond for our dinner and breakfast! Both meals were lovely. I couldn’t recommend a stay here more, I will definitely be returning
- chopsp (6/5): Avoid - Average, 100% not worth the money.
It’s novel, but the rooms are very sub par for the money.
We were put in the “new” house, which is a few hundred metres away and not part of the main hotel (wasn’t told this in advance)
The rooms lights didn’t work properly, the shower head was cleaned regularly, so it was shooting out all angles and coating the bathroom floor.
And most disappointingly the velvet ceiling was COVERED in water stains from massive leaks, making 30% of the ceiling brown.
Thai was lovely, but staffed by kids who fairly obviously hadn’t been taught how to wait properly, so they were a little lost, and as a result not terribly helpful.
Waited 45 for our drinks on the first night, and 10 mins to be seated on the second, despite 3 of them being available and all 3 of them using looked us waiting and then went back to talking to one another.
Will avoid the chain from now on.
A bit of fun, possibly, luxury it is FAR from.
- N7698QMsharonm (10/5): Excellent loved it - We had Christmas Day at the Crazy bear in Beaconsfield. From start to finish everything was faultless. The staff were very attentive. The food was amazing, every single course, the service was superb. So pleased we chose the Crazy Bear for Christmas it was perfect. Thank you
- Clara_M2570 (2/5): Very dated, unclean, several things not working, needs full refurbishment, overpriced - We had several issues with the room (number 9) which cost £229,
The room smells quite musty and damp. There's only a curtain inbetween the bathroom and bedroom, and the bedroom curtains are not hung well and are difficult to pull shut. The sofa cushions were dirty with various dried stains on them. It just felt like the whole place needed refurbishment and a deep clean. There are a lot of broken or mended bits and bobs; it felt like it could have been nice when first done many years ago but was now just tacky and old. Nothing felt, looked or smelt luxurious. The windows and frames were filthy, damp, and had cobwebs in the corners.
Upon arrival, the bathroom tap was not working at all with no water coming out, so maintenance visited twice.
In the night, we realised that the bath only ran hot water (from the ceiling, splashing everywhere by the bed) for around two minutes before only running cold. We therefore could not have a bath which was one of the main attractions to the room.
In the morning, the bath still didn't run hot, but we unfortunately then realised that the shower only ran to scalding hot after a couple of minutes, and had no medium or cold temperature to shower with, even when it was on the 'cold' setting. We therefore could not shower.
Despite the bathroom sink having been fixed, the tap once again did not work and we had no water at all. We brushed our teeth with bottled water, couldn't shower and couldn't have a bath.
My friend went down to report these issues again, and we were told maintenance would come again. Noone came and by that point it was checkout time. We left feeling tired, grubby and disappointed.
I complained to the manager who was helpful and gave me the right advice, as were the desk staff who helped with the admin side of things after the experience. I can't fault their friendliness and empathetic approach, its just the hotel itself that lets things down.
On the plus side, the banana cocktail I had in the bar was one of the nicest drinks I've ever had!
Overall, very disappointing (way beyond the water issue), I would not choose to stay here again or recommend it to anyone else.
- peterhM5809HJ (10/5): Amazing Chefs Table in Beaconfield - We dinned at Bear by Carlo Scotto at The Crazy Bear Beaconfield. It’s now under new management and what an amazing Chefs Table experience we had. 8 courses with a flight of paring wines. One of the best Chef Table experiences I’ve had. Carlo was very interactive explaining and cooking everything in front of us. His assistant was also great. Big shout out to the staff that looked after us all evening from drinks In the private lounge to making sure the service was impeccable. We live locally and look forward to our next visit.
- leilafA2958BZ (10/5): Leila & Micheal - I booked the crazy bear hotel for my partner's birthday, this place is absolutely gorgeous, room ,food, Thai message, cocktails 👌👌👌&staff were so friendly and helpful..we really enjoyed our time, strongly recommend to everyone and will definitely go back soon... " CRAZY BEAR HOTEl" thank you so much for your great hospitality ♥️💚🤍
- chantellemward (2/5): Crazy carpark - Only visit if you’re happy to wait to park for over 40 minutes… I’d booked this reservations weeks and weeks ago for a romantic meal. However was horrified to arrive to 400+ Christmas party guests arriving at the same time, meaning we couldn’t park anywhere smear the establishment. Took 40 minutes to park, where I had to leave my husband in the end to go and secure our table. No one managing the outdoor horror with buses and cars parked up the roads everywhere. Was complete chaos! Why was no one manning this or warning ‘regulars’ of the huge Christmas parties? Surely synth should have cancelled the main restaurant reservations for tonight. Lots of other guests were complaining too. Really poor organisation.
- alexandrapM4682XX (8/5): Lovely getaway treat - The bedroom was beautiful. Loves the copper bath.
We didn’t know how to work the coffee machine, so ended up with cold coffee (yuk).
The Thai meal was utterly sensational, and the breakfast delicious - perhaps a little overpriced on the drinks and service charges.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
- 589karlik (10/5): Definitely DECADENT - We had a fantastic night away at the crazy bear hotel.
The service was excellent, the venue was beautiful and very decadent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our room and the free standing bath at the end ofbthe bed.
Food and drinks were reasonably priced for a venue of this style.
We enjoyed the 12 course Thai dining experience. The food was good with great flavours. I am not an expert in Thai food however I wouldnt quite say the food met 5 star standards however everything else about the experience certainly lived up to our expectations.
- MummyEmx3 (8/5): 1st stay, won't be our last - We loved the hotel, although I have to say our room was looking a little tired, the wall paper is looking grubby. There were a few little issues, the light above the bath kept flickering, there was very little water pressure in the tap so it was easier to use the shower when washing our hands or brushing our teeth (we stayed in room 9). I would like to say none of this really impacted our stay but we mentioned this when checking out because it could cause someone else issues. We ate in the English restaurant which was amazing, we liked the little touch of the happy anniversary chocolate on our desert, it showed an attention to detail which was amazing. Breakfast was great and the hotel is something else and the staff match, we couldn't have been happier. We are already looking to book our next stay and hopefully come to the chefs kitchen next time. It was our first visit, it won't be our last. Thank you CBB x
- T5350EGbrad (8/5): A totally different experience... in a good way! - Checking in was a little disappointing as we had to wait 4-5 minutes and then ask at the bar for someone to attend to us, the check-in process from that point was very good.
The rooms we had booked (Decadent rooms 2 and 3 ) were fantastic on first glance and very quirky with a great feel about them, our friends stayed in room 3 which had a couple of bulbs not working and the main lighting panel seemed not to work although that may have been user error... they also found a white sock poking out from under the bed which wasn't particularly hygienic.
Room 2 was also very impressive at first glance but finding cracked shower mirrors, missing parts of fittings and a grubby tap that my wife had to clean was again disappointing.
I would like to mention Charlie in the bar as he was very helpful and is a credit to your business, we had a couple of drinks in your bar and the cocktails were excellent.
We ate at your Thai restaurant for the taster menu which was very good, all i would say was it felt very much like the menu had been structured to a price as the courses seemed to be mainly vegetables and very little meat content. It was also disappointing that two bottles of wine we ordered were not available and we were offered another bottle that was considerably more expensive so it felt we were being 'sold up'
The bar and the staff that evening were very good and really attentive without being overbearing, I would also like to apologise to your bar manager as I made an inappropriate remark which he heard although to his credit he acted with the ultimate professionalism and ignored it.
The breakfast was fantastic as was the service, we stayed with the continental option which was more than sufficient and it was served quickly and presented beautifully.
Overall the stay was really good, I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family and we will be returning at some point in the near future to experience The Crazy Bear again.
- 45rheah (10/5): Stunning - It was just an absolutely stunning and unforgettable stay. We stayed in the decadent room as well as having dinner and breakfast. Everything from the staff, to the food, to the room was perfect. Thanks so much.
- F6750PLaa (10/5): Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield- Wonderful, with high standards hotel, I loved it! - Excellent, attentive, sweet, professional, attention to detail, very helpful members of staff at the Crazy Bear.
My room was Boujee, it was a jaw dropper & wow's on entering the room, the space the bath in the room. I enjoyed it all- My Thai dinner, champs, cocktails, accommodation, breakfast, Check in & out.
Wonderful job by ALL members of the Crazy Bear. I recommend a stay here & will return.
- A5782UAleeg (8/5): Disappointed - Your hotel and rooms are without doubt amazing and this is our second visit to the crazy bear. Unfortunately our 2nd visit came up a bit short for us. The decadence room amazing, yet absolutely freezing, being such a big room definitely needed more heat. Regarding dining. We felt quite embarrassed when booking into the Thai restaurant. Even though we had returned several emails stating our preferences to dine in the Thai restaurant. On arrival the young lady had no booking and I had to go back to my room to get my phone to prove our booking. Leaving my partner standing alone. From such a place as the crazybear this isn’t the kind of service I would have expected. Especially the cost to stay there. We personally expect exceptional service. Surely that’s what we paid for?.
- MartynBarber (10/5): Wonderful experience -totally spoilt - What a wonderful experience.
As soon as you walk through the door you feel special. The staff are especially attentive, polite and professional.
Our room was decadent as described and we loved it.
Only small frustration was finding a parking space nearby and sadly I lost my wedding ring whilst at the hotel (especially as it was our wedding anniversary-somebody is now in the doghouse).
- saffronb893 (10/5): Thai place lovely food - Our stay at crazy bear Beaconsfield was great, clean and fun rooms! Great service, Charlie was amazing and ensured we had a great stay for my birthday. The Thai restaurant in particular was amazing food and service! Brilliant cocktails.
- jumpinjezabel (10/5): Lovely get away - Technically 4.5 stars as I would have liked more coffee and milk in the room, (easily fixed as I went to bar to get more!)
As a smoker I loved the sofa outside, would have loved a blanket too as I’m an early riser (4am)! and it was chilly!
Love the quirky/eccentric decor, bed was super comfy.
I had one of the best massages ever (I think the lady was called Mo).
Staff all super friendly.
Cocktails on point.
I’ll be back!
- ScottR101 (10/5): 5 star - Thanks for the wonderful stay. The room was fantastic as was the service throughout our stay.
Very difficult to find any faults at all.
We had a wonderful stay and will certainly re visit.
- samandalan2005 (4/5): Waste of money - Totally disappointed we have stayed at stadhampton and it was amazing from start to finish from the welcome we got and the welcome drinks to the atmosphere this one was awful the room the staff trying to find it as apparently they can’t have signs outside no champagne on arrival not felt welcome stayed over the road to the hotel not the 60th birthday celebrations I wanted for my hubby the only amazing thing was the meal the tomahawk steak was outstanding £98 for two so not cheap we had bread a starter bottle of water steak to share with salad
And 2 cocktails £220 so very expensive we will definitely not be back to this one so upset
- Svd22 (6/5): Poor value for money but not many options in Beaconsfield - With few options in Beaconsfield we have stayed a few times. Rooms are dark and very poorly lit, standard rooms are small.
Also the hotel doesn’t not pick up the phone - disappointing.
- Cosmopolitan597503 (10/5): Absolutely amazing! - Absolutely amazing! Loving the make over. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Thank you, we will be back and are looking forward to the Stadhampton Christmas Caberet
- emmajayned2024 (10/5): Honeymoon - Absolutely stunning hotel, the room was even better in person.
We used the Thai restaurant and had the set menu, the food was beautiful and service was fantastic.
I'd highly recommend a stay here, my wife and I are looking forward to another stay in the near future.
- Tour23142623197 (8/5): Fantastic funky hotel - Fantastic hotel very funky and different! Great area lovely place lots of nice pubs
Room 6 was amazing...leather floors !
- sophiej556 (10/5): Crazy bear crazy experience - The Crazy bear is OTT from start to finish!
From the size of the front door, to the opulent decoration in the communal areas and the boudoir-style bedrooms (ours had red velvet walls and mirrors on the ceiling above the bed 😉), it was unique.
Positives:
The maitre d was aware of my food intolerances when we arrived at the restaurant and talked through what was suitable on the set menu and how dishes could be adapted to meet my needs.
We were offered a complimentary glass of champagne but staff were happy to change this for something non-alcoholic.
The food was delicious and well presented.
The continental breakfast was plentiful and they were able to provide GF toast and a variety of non-dairy milks.
Staff were attentive without being intrusive.
Negatives:
The decor was a bit tired in places. The corridor leading to our room had wallpaper missing in places, one of the bedroom doors had wallpaper held on with sellotape and the base of our bedroom door and the door opposite had wallpaper missing at ‘kick’ height.
There was no shower gel in the bathroom dispenser but reception provided some when asked.
There are no hooks to hang wet towels on so these ended up draped over furnishings.
Overall, it was an experience but I wouldn’t stay more than 1 night unless I could have changed to another one of the individually decorated rooms to expand the experience.
- rebeccajH2810TA (4/5): Don't waste you're money! - was very excited and looking forward to our 5 star luxury stay for our anaversy. The room was a let down from what I was expecting the room was slightly chilly so I thought I'd set the bath to warm up a bit unfortunately the water was warm and had turned cold before it had filled. So I though I'd have a warm shower.
That was short lived as the water although nice and warm, trickled out from one quarter side of the shower head.
I then went to make a coffee but that too failed miserably only trickling out quarter cup of coffee. At this point I have up and went to bed.
- bonniebO5126KE (8/5): Lovely hotel, lovely break, menu could be better - We’ve stayed at the Beaconsfield hotel once before and had an equally lovely time.
We stayed in a boujee room which was lovely. It was a luxurious room, perfectly clean with all amenities I would expect.
The staff were extremely attentive and the reception who serviced us at check in and check out was extremely friendly, polite and provided us all the relevant information.
We originally had a booking for a 12 course Thai meal however were told upon checking in that it was a sharing menu which wouldn’t work for us as I am vegan and my husband isn’t. We then booked the English restaurant instead which was lovely however the vegan options were extremely limited. I had a roasted pear starter which had the Stilton missing, my main course was ravioli with butter missing and the only starter I could eat was sorbet. My food was tasty but definitely felt like it was ‘lacking’ which was disappointing and the only reason I didn’t give 5/5.
In the morning we chose to have a cooked breakfast but again, the plant based option was very lacking consisting of tomato, avocado, spinach and a hash brown without beans or a sausage or scrambled egg alternative.
We would recommend the hotel and would stay again however would hope that vegan options are better or may look at eating outside of the hotel.
- anthonysO4044OX (10/5): Birthday trip away. - The entire stay at Crazy Bear was lovely. The room was stunning and immaculate. The dinner and continental breakfast was also delicious.
Will definitely stay again for another special occasion
- imranmX7825BE (2/5): Horrible experience - Absolutely terrible hotel and service. I would NOT be going back here and would advise you to stay away. The service is absolutely atrocious... upon arriving and checking in we had to wait 22 mins to just be shown our room which is unacceptable. I don't get why the lady made us wait so long.
Then we asked for a bucket with ice and some glasses twice and nothing turned up. We still didn't get them the next day so gave up. Went for dinner in the evening and was served cold steak and upon mentioning it to the server he tells me the kitchen cooked it and then left it to be cooled down.... Since when do you serve cold steak??
And then when checking out the lady was so so rude like I told her to come to work. If she doesn't want to be there then she shouldn't but I'm not gonna accept being spoken to in such a rude and abrupt manner like she's doing me a favour. All she wanted to do was what's app as I could see on her phone. The snug room is very very small and hardly any space to move around or space to put anything anywhere. Bathroom is tiny and again no where to put your toiletries so seems weird that don't think about these things. Yea room was clean and beds were comfy but overall the experience was terrible and as a frequent traveler all over the world I would be staying back here!!
I REALLY ADVISE TO STAY AT ANOTHER HOTEL!! Very poor and unacceptable care and service from the staff.
- W3145MXdeer (10/5): Great way to celebrate our Anniversary - We went for one night to celebrate our anniversary. Great experience from start to finish. We opted to book a cosy room which was one of the smaller one, we asked to pay for an upgrade but the hotel was fully booked. Check in was easy and quick. Room design was superb and romantic and fit well with the occasion. Dinner and breakfast was included in the package and it was prefect. Thai menu included 12 dishes and were large portions to be fully enjoyed. Unfortunately the outdoor pool was too cold plus the outside temperature was freezing to enjoy outdoor seating area but beautifully designed. Service staff were professional and friendly. Overall a well deserved experience and a place to go back again.
- nicoleiM8992SA (8/5): Quirky boutique hotel with character - Lovely overnight stay at the Crazy Bear with my husband. The room was very comfortable and quirky with unique features. The cooked breakfast the next morning was of good quality, however the portion sizes could be improved upon. Service was also a little slow (we arrived and were seated a whole 10 mins before another couple yet they were served before us) and I noticed there were no salt or pepper shakers on our table. Apart from this, our stay was a very enjoyable and memorable one. Would definitely return.
- margaretbL3093FM (10/5): First time eating at the Crazy Bear. - Our first time at the Crazy Bear today October 26, 2025 for my sister and brother in laws 29th wedding anniversary for lunch for the table for 6. The service was great and I had the mushrooms arancini as an appetizer and for my mains I had the beef Yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes and vegetables. The beef I could cut it like it was butter it was so good. The food was SO good. We will return again.
- Quest16351298530 (10/5): Our lovely stay - We loved our stay at The Crazy Bear Hotel.
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and they were all very welcoming.
There was no shower gel
In the room which wasn’t a problem as we had our own. We chose not to mention it to the staff until we checked out. The staff member apologised profusely but as I said, it wasn’t an issue, purely an oversight.
With regards to the weirdly stunning room, I would just say that there was nowhere to hang your clothes when using the wet room but all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our very chilled stay in one of the decadence rooms.
We will definitely be back to try the other rooms.
Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.
- S5520UVjamese (10/5): Great hotel and restaurant - Fantastic food and service all round. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. The room was brilliant and the overall experience is definitely recommended
- ZS2001 (10/5): Highly recommend, great stay - I would definitely recommend the crazy bear hotel, I booked for my partners 25th birthday and we were both blown away by the beautiful decor and friendly staff. We had dinner in the Thai restaurant which was delicious and we had lovely cocktails in the bar. We also had a massage each which was a really good massage. Thanks to the crazy bear for a great stay
- JaneA439 (2/5): Under new management but nothing has improved! - Live fairly locally and thought as it is under new management we would meet friends for Sunday brunch and try The Crazy Bear out again.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have changed much. The service was so slow, the food took ages to come out.
When the food did come out and there was a lack of presentation. The avocado on toast looked like slop on under cooked toast. The plates they came on looked like they had seen better days. I would be disappointed if I stayed here the night in such a nice room and this was served the next morning! I would suggest going somewhere else for breakfast. It looks like breakfast on a budget.
It’s a shame as the decor is so opulent here and it looks as though you’re going to be wowed whatever you eat. This is not the case.
We will not be returning unfortunately. It doesn’t seem to have improved since we came here before it changed hands and we stopped coming. We will go elsewhere next time!
- 762milliey (10/5): Didn’t want to leave the room because of how cosy it was ! - The room was amazing
The staff were massive help !
Not a bad word to say about my experience staying at Crazy Bear . Would definitely book again .
- generationjetlag (6/5): Lovely rooms just watch out for hidden charges - The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was gorgeous. Dinner was very tasty and good value.
Unfortunately there were a few things that meant I wasn’t able to leave a 5* review….
Being charged for room service when the phone wasn’t working so we had to physically go to reception to order was disappointing.
The breakfast was of very poor quality. We were served fruit that was rancid. More disappointingly, cooked breakfast was chargeable. This was not a supplementary nominal amount. It was a full charge (£14 for a full charge). When paying for dinner, bed & breakfast this is particularly poor. Unfortunately this did put a taint on our stay.
- Ascottowers (8/5): Great stay in a fab hotel, just one or two small issues - Stayed one night in a decadent suite on the first floor of the main building. We were greeted warmly and the staff were very helpful in explaining the layout of the hotel and the facilities in the room. We were treated to a glass of champagne in the bar where the staff were very attentive and charming. We had dinner in the Thai restaurant, a 12-course affair, which was truly delicious. Again, the staff were brilliant and very engaging. Breakfast was very nice (fantastic granola!) and, again, we could not fault the level of service from the team. They must be very proud to work at the Crazy Bear. I would have given the stay 5 stars had it not been for a few niggles in our room. While stylish, certain things are impractical. The lack of sockets, the lack of USB ports, the very small side tables alongside the bed. Nothing terrible but it would be just nice not to have to crawl behind the table when plugging in the milk frother or the lamp in the corner of the room. But we thoroughly enjoyed the amenities, including lovely Illy coffee, fresh milk, the aforementioned milk frother, the large bottles of complimentary water, the sumptuous bathroom including a wonderful rainfall shower which gets the blood going in the morning. We also slept like babies in the great bed with the softest linens. We also appreciated the use of the bathrobes. All in all, a great stay and we hope to return one day.
- Stay73406 (8/5): Good stay, great service, few areas that need attention and repair - Great to experience the Crazy Bear, staff and service excellent.
Room understandably dark and dim to fit in with overall theme, however would benefit from the option of one brighter light for hair and make up purposes.
Beware curtain hooks/pins as incurred deep cut to my finger whilst trying to close bathroom curtain which was slightly unclipped. Reported issue and asked to complete accident form and given a plaster… writing off my very small bar bill would have been a nice gesture, disappointing this wasn’t offered …
- mojo375 (10/5): Opulent and Decadent - Very opulent and decadent hotel to stay in. We loved our room for our 30th Wedding Anniversay. Enjoyed sitting outside by the pool.
The Thai meal was amazing and delicious, as was breakfast.
Loved the whole experience staying at Crazy Bear. Ive wanted to have a stay there for a long time.
I found a wonderful Groupon deal, which allowed to afford the stay which included the Thai meal, 2 glasses of Champagne and continental breakfast. Would highly recommend Crazy Bear, and would love to stay again
- andret537 (8/5): Excellent hotel stay - Very pleased with my stay. The hotel is very nice all over. The only downside and recommendation is to improve the restaurant menu with photos of the food, so it makes it easier to select and make a decision.
- 96gautamu (10/5): Great Stay - Amazing ambience and great group of staff. Had a few minor issues with the room which were sorted out promptly. Room is lovely and the feel is luxurious. Bar and restaurant staff are welcoming which complements their tasty cuisines. The hotel was busy yet not loud. Plenty of amenities make it value for money.
- craig (8/5): - Our bathroom was just a little grubby but overall we had a lovely time food was amazing
- 366mandyh (10/5): An amazing experience from arrival to departure! - Amazing one night stay celebrating our Ruby anniversary. (anniversary gift from our children. )The Thai tester menu was so good and had amazing flavours. All the staff were welcoming and professional . We will be back again soon !
Thank you crazy bear for a beautiful memory Simon & Mandy
- Simon (10/5): - Excellent stay hotel very quirky great place to stay. Room was very good staff and food very good.
- richiematin (10/5): Work overnight stay - our girls on reception are amazing, a real credit to your hotel. Every time I have stayed they have gone beyond what you would expect. Gorgeous hotel but need to sell pints as well. Thank you ladies you always put a smile on my face 🙂
- R802JGkarent (8/5): A unique hotel - A very unique experience.
I liked that the hotel was very different and unusual.
The customer experience must be improved for guests prior to travel, on site I would say the service was good but not to the standard I would expect in a 5 star boutique hotel. The Thai food was excellent (but they didn’t have any prawn crackers?!)
It’s a very expensive hotel (over priced) for one night excluding breakfast.
A challenge getting ready in the rooms, the are very dark and plugs and mirrors are lacking in the right places. That said if you are looking for something different and unique I would recommend. K
- Richard (10/5): - Amazing front of house reception ladies. Could not do enough to help and welcome me, credit to the hotel and thank you ladies for being brilliant as always.
- S3496EIchloej (6/5): Underwhelming - My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and I was so happy as id always wanted to go to the crazy bear hotel however the whole experience was so underwhelming.
Our room was not within the complex and we had to walk down the main road to access our room which I thought was slightly odd. The room in itself was very very dark, to the point we could not see half of our belongings without using our phone torches. I appreciate down lighting but this made it very impractical.
Getting ready on the evening was also very difficult with little to no lighting.
We had afternoon tea which was nice but not as pictured on the website with the sandwiches lacking filling.
The Thai restaurant on the evening however was the biggest let down. We had booked in for the 12 course tasting menu. We were seated and not given any menus and 20 minutes later when the waitress came to take our drinks order she then scoffed at us asking where our menu’s. The starters then took over 50 minutes to be bought to the table and halfway through we were asked if we were finished even though we were clearly eating still. The main courses took the same amount of time to then be bought to our table.
We were only offered one drink throughout the evening and when we did ask for another drink we were told the bar was now closed.
It was such a shame as the food was as lovely when it arrived but the service was so poor.
Breakfast in the morning was ok however I feel they do trick you slightly giving you a set menu of items such as pastry, toast and yogurt and then handing you another menu with other breakfast items and expecting you to pay.
All in all, I probably wouldn’t recommend or return which is a shame as it looks so luxurious and quirky but this is just based off my experience and it could be amazing for someone else
- MadBlackberry (10/5): Good for a special celebration - We absolutely loved our stay here, the room was amazing, especially the bathtub! The staff were friendly and helpful and the little touches were nice. The building has a lot of historical quirks and the lighting is very low so perhaps not the place to go if you have mobility problems but it was fine for us. Would love to go again. With the Groupon offer if was reasonable value but not somewhere I would go all the time. It was good for celebrating a special occasion.
- stephcF5284BL (10/5): Wonderful stay in exceptional designed hotel - Excellent standard of room.
Very smooth check-in and information given from reception and pre-arrival information via telephone call a few days before.
Air-con was a little noisy.
Excellent stay in a quaint little town. Very much enjoyed our stay.
Would love to come back.
- denisesI6668WQ (10/5): Weekend break - Friendly staff, Thai evening meal was exceptional, quirky interior!
Great place to stay to explore the surrounding area.
- David (6/5): - Room wasn’t cleaned very good. Found an ear plug under pillow and one on floor by curtains. Dust around corners of room. Aircon not working room very hot. No cold water only hot running in bath hand basin dripped water out. Loud bangs before 7am to work men repairing things in pool area. Was not impressed. This unfortunately is the worst review I’ve ever had to do. I hope things can get better for this hotel. Dinner in Thai restaurant was very tasty and cocktails from bar was very good also.
- Waseem (8/5): - great staff ,great hospitality , I just found shower wasn't hot barley warm and no slippers in the rooms , apart from that absolutely great place , food was delicious , and the bar in the evening with a dj playing in the background was a lovely touch ,so thanks you
- Road04920616673 (8/5): Lovely hotel in a quaint town - Lovely hotel in a cute, quaint town. Staff were super helpful and the decadence is really special. A very different stay. Great service in the restaurant with really knowledgeable staff and a maitre de. Some elements of the rooms are a little tired but the restaurant was shut off having a makeover so maybe the rooms will get a refresh too. I would definitely return
- hannahw570 (6/5): Enjoyed our stay but won’t be returning!! - My husband brought me here as a birthday treat, I’ve been so excited to visit the Crazybear in Beaconsfield!
Upon arrival we found parking with no issue. We went to reception where there was no one to greet us, we were there around 10 minutes before someone attended to us. We were given a free upgrade to the ‘decedent’ room from the Boujee room that we had booked, which I thought was a nice touch. We were shown around our room and given a small tour. After the member of staff left, I took a few photos of damages that were already in the room, cracked ceiling mirror, cracked bathroom tiles etc. unfortunately, the room wasn’t a 5-star standard of cleanliness - there were rose petals left under the bed from the previous occupants, there bathroom was dusty and had limescale on every chrome surface.
The bath fills up from the ceiling which is very cool however after running the bath it was too hot to get in it, there is no temperature adjustment on the bath tap which I found really odd!
Personally, I found the bed to be too hard but that wasn’t the end of the world and was just something I didn’t like. We were woken up by a group of people literally outside our bedroom window shouting and laughing for a good 40 minutes around 12:30am.
We had dinner in the Thai restaurant which we couldn’t fault, the food was beautiful, the service was impeccable and the price was very reasonable; this is definitely somewhere we would return if we lived closer.
On the whole our experience wasn’t a bad one, however, for a hotel that labels itself a 5 star with a matching price tag, we were hugely disappointed in the basic details of a supposed 5 star room. Don’t get me wrong, you definitely get the wow factor upon entry, but after the novelty has worn off you start to notice the cracks in the walls LITERALLY.
It was an experience, we enjoyed ourselves whilst we were there but unfortunately the small details really let this place down.
This isn’t somewhere we would return, after paying £360 for a night and finding other people’s hair on the floor and walls, it’s definitely not worth the money!
At check out, I did mention the lack of cleanliness of the room and all I got was ‘oh sorry about that’; again you expect a little bit more from a 5 star hotel!
- Natasha (10/5): - The hotel was very pleasant and aesthetically pleasing. We will definitely be returning!
- Dominic (8/5): - The room was very nice and looked great with the mirrors and interior. It was a great birthday location and relaxing. Disappointed with the mirror damage I saw upon arrival and will prefer a room with no damage to justify the money I spent. The staff were friendly especially the waiters in the restaurant. Food was nice and service was great. Breakfast should have been included with my stay but still overall a good experience. Will definitely stay there again and try more of the facilities.
- tracycF6250RU (10/5): A massive thank you to Jessica and Nicole - Excellent customer service from both Nicole and Jessica you are both a great asset to The Crazy Bear , I can honestly say some of the best customer service I have recieved nothing was too much trouble from either of them .
Thank you Ladies .
