Guest Reviews
- Steve (1/5): - The hotel called at 10 pm the night before we were to arrive and said our reservation was canceled due to overbooking
- Charles (5/5): -

- Philip (7/5): -
- Priscilla (1/5): DO BETTER BY YOUR CUSTOMERS! - I did not stay at that hotel. My reservation was cancelled by you before I arrived. I did not know ahead of time as I do not use the internet on my phone. I use my laptop which I did not take as I did not know I needed it. I got a call from IHG during the day (could not answer as I was at work), I tried to call back and no one answered.
- Caldwell (10/5): -
- Caldwell (10/5): -
- Jessica (1/5): - I would not recommend booking a room at Candlewood Suites in Alexandria, Louisiana. I booked a 2-bedroom room for 4 people for the night of March 20, 2026. We arrived around 9:00 PM to check in and were never informed that our reservation had been changed to a 1-bedroom room until we opened the door.
No alternative accommodations were offered — no cot, no second room, nothing. Since 4 people could not reasonably sleep in one queen bed, we had no choice but to leave and find somewhere else to stay.
I was told to contact Booking.com, but Booking.com advised that the hotel would need to handle the issue directly. After leaving multiple messages requesting a call back from the manager, I never received a response. I ultimately disputed the charge with my credit card company on April 1.
Today, I was informed through Chase that the hotel offered only a $75 credit and that I would still need to work directly with the hotel. I called again, explained the entire situation again, and once again there was no manager available. I later received a call stating they would not refund my card and was given the manager’s email address because apparently she does not speak with customers by phone.
At this point, I am still trying to recover money for a room I never stayed in because it was not the room I booked. The lack of communication, accountability, and customer service throughout this entire process has been extremely frustrating.
- Kiara (10/5): It was pretty professional - It was clean and quiet I loved it
- Sheena (10/5): -
- Jasmine (7/5): -
- Valerie (9/5): Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful and I always felt clean - Conveniently located for our needs Some items needed of repairs
- Kerri (6/5): It was ok but won’t go back - Rooms were nice size. Bathrooms could have been cleaner, and our toilet ran all night. The room was VERY humid!! And no pool or continental breakfast. Also all Elevators were broken!!
- Alexia (10/5): - The staff was super helpful and friendly
- Veronica (8/5): -
- Hope (9/5): Great stay for the rate - Property smelled good, looked clean. the location was minutes to food, shopping and event. Staff didn't say much when checking in, gave me room keys without telling me room number or where the elevators were located.
- Ballmer (1/5): it cost me $150 to learn Candlewood Suites & IHG do not care about their guests. - i have chosen IHG hotels and Candlewood Suites for years when traveling with the military. recently after booking a room with a different hotel, and upon arrival discovering i had been overbooked, i had to simultaneously battle with customer service for a refund and find somewhere else to stay, i booked a room with Candlewood...seconds after confirmation, noticing that the date in the email was wrong, i attempted to correct the date. this was not possible, so i attempted to cancel, again not possible, i even sent a message to the property. i got a message the next day that my request was denied. essentially the property knew within 5 minutes of the booking that i would not be staying, but they had my money and thats good enough for them. I've never felt so undervalued as a long time customer, or IHG platinum member, which is apparently meaningless
- Mable (8/5): Average satisfaction - Comfort of bed The commode water control wasn't working properly. The first room the water ran constantly and made loud notice. 2nd RM water ran constantly
- Dshannan (10/5): -
- Caldwell (10/5): -
- Irene (9/5): - Staff There was no continental breakfast.
- Deanna (10/5): -
- PAULA (9/5): Wonderful stay, I would stay here again!! - I liked the courteous staff and clean room. Also took note that the hotel lobby and hallway smelled fresh. Driveway was hard to see and navigate. It needs to be cleared of old shrubbery and concrete in front of hotel. Parking lot was small.
- David (7/5): -
- clemons (10/5): -
- angie (8/5): -
- Susan (10/5): - New property. Clean!
- Matthias (9/5): - Kostenloses Waschen
- Matthew (2/5): - My check in process was horrible. The Expedia app charged me more then the hotel rate which caused the hotels systems to reject my payment . It took me over an hour to get resolved and very upset
- KeAajha (7/5): -
- John (6/5): - Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff were very thorough. Room had odd smell like dirt or old bug spray. Microwave handle was broken. Shower curtain wasn’t long enough for the tub.
- Mohasin (10/5): -
- Lashonda (10/5): Nice place to stay with family - Convient and clean There’s nothing I didn’t like
- Talaya (4/5): Ok visit - The free laundry option was amazing with a family so big. I booked a wheel chair accessible room the room was already paid for. They called me the day of my reservation just to say the room wasn’t wheel chair accessible all they could offer me was a shower chair. Which made it really hard to get around. The is no pool or breakfast
- Robyn (10/5): - Originally had our room of a 1 BR mixed up and not available had us in a 2 queen room. Talked front desk & they had no 1 BR available. Was going to cancel but decided to wait & see if they did anything next day. They rearranged their reservations the next day & moved us to the room we had reserved. Anyone can make a mistake, it is how it is corrected that counts and they corrected their error. Great front desk staff. Many restaurants nearby.
- Gomez (10/5): -
- Teesha Hunter (10/5): all good - all good all good
- Justin (4/5): What I booked is not what I received. - Close to the base that my son was at. Booked a room with 2 queen beds but got a room with 1 queen bed. We were told that they made a mistake but no more rooms would be available. We had to sleep 2 adults and a nine year old in one bed. We didn’t sleep very well.
- Alma (10/5): - Great, comfy place to stay
- Donna (10/5): - Outstanding hotel. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Comfy and clean. Will definitely stay here again.
- Carly (10/5): - Great!
- Smith (9/5): Superb -
- Kelley (10/5): Exceptional - Staff and cleanest
- Servant (8/5): - Needs landscaping
- Ashley (10/5): 10/10 Definitely Recommend - Rooms were clean and the staff was supper accommodating. Will definitely return
- Thomas (10/5): - The Surrounding areas was still I'm guessing devastated from past storms. it's a deterrent from wanting to stay in similar locations.
- Donovan (10/5): - Good stay would return in the future
- Robert (1/5): Bad - Messed up reservation. Made reservation for a room with 2 beds for 2 adults and 1 child. Their manager said that reservation was for 2 adults only.
Had trouble checking in. Prepaid it’s American Express. Staff could not find the payment or card.
- Donovan (10/5): - Good hotel.
- Dana (4/5): - The elevator stopped working when I was there. I was only going downstairs because my key wasn’t working. The manager asked when I was checking out which I thought was weird since he had to pull me up to get my card to work. I had to walk up and down the stairs afterwards cause they couldn’t fix the elevator. The lady that checked me in was extremely nice nice and helpful on my checkin day
- Jeff (8/5): Nice place. - Nice room, very comfortable. My only dissatisfaction with this chain is that they don't offer a breakfast. That's the main reason I rarely stay at Candlewood. If the hotel next to them (where I regularly stay) had not been full I would have stayed there.
It's a nice property, though.
- Sylvia (9/5): It was good. - Didn’t eat Elevator broke
- Johnson (10/5): Exceptional - I enjoyed everything about my stay at candlewood! I loved everything about my stay at candlewood!
- verneda (10/5): - clean and wonderful staff
- Tamara (8/5): Very good - The staff were the Jewels of this facility! All were very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and pleasant. The elevator was broken the whole time(4 days). Was reported to the Manager(possible owner). Not so bad except when you had to drag luggage up and down the stairs. It seemed that it was a normal occurrence.
The beds are extremely high(platform, box spring and mattress! Even for my husband who is 6'2. I had to jump and climb to get into the bed.
- Morgan (8/5): - Very good until the elevator broke Saturday.
- David (9/5): Superb - Excellent staff. Trish was the best!! No breakfast
- Cecylee (10/5): - Very nice and friendly staff
- Jason (10/5): The hotel was clean, the staff was amazing the rooms were awesome - Alex at the front desk was the best! Customer service really can make our break an opinion and Alex made sure i have the best opinion of this hotel. There was construction and they had cones so I had to leave another way which confused me and it doesn't take much to confuse me.
- John (4/5): - Desk has an attitude and was not appreciate at all. Hotel under construction, debris around Sheetrock mud tracked into the common areas, smells and more.
- Derrick (6/5): Weekend Visit - Check in went well. No morning room cleaning or towel exchange, had to call for at least towel exchange when we got back. Lots of construction, which was not disclosed when booking. Would not have booked due to strong smells and dust.
- Valerie (10/5): I can't say enough about Shalanda b she was so amazingly helpful. on a scale of 1-10 she was a 12. - the room was nice and very clean no breakfast but that was ok. we ate a very good restaurant nearby
- Kayla (10/5): Great night! - It was great!
- Alfred (3/5): Embarrassed about the conditions of the building, floor cleanness and stay for the price I paid. - Location was decent. The elevator was not working and I was on the 3rd floor. For the price I paid things should’ve been more clean and workable. I was not satisfied with my stay.
- Nadia (5/5): Ok - Hotel staff was super friendly and nice Room was dusty I had to buy wipes to wipe everything down..see my pics old furniture the chair was torn up. The white stuff on the floor came from paint I guess? The chair in the picture was full of dust. I had to clean everything in that room
- James (4/5): - Worn furniture, broken towel rack, tv didn’t work. Bed was comfortable, room was clean. AC worked fine. Quiet room. Building was being renovated. Property in front had been demolished and entry was unclear.
- Brittany (4/5): - My family and I were in town for a softball tournament. Upon initial check-in we were given our room key. We open the door to the room and there were paint cans and other materials everywhere. I called the front desk and she was ever accommodating by placing us in another room. The room was clean for the most part. However, the curtains had dark stains on them, the light fixtures in the bathroom were rusted, and there was a bug on one of the beds. Not an awful hotel, but I won’t be staying at this location again.
- Jannet (10/5): Best Stay By Far! - We were here for 3 days for church and will say that this was the cleanist hotel we have stayed at in the last 10 years coming to Alexandria! I usually bring cleaning products with us to clean our room once we check in and to my surprise when i cleaned the floors they were actually CLEAN! The staff was very friendly and professional as well!
- Kevin (2/5): Unbelievable and disappointed in service - Absolutely terrible could not check in customer service was terrible, was not even able to check in saying they haven’t been paid well I paid and after a conversation with hotels.com and a them speaking with hotel I was moved to holiday inn express
Terrible service on the hotels end!!
- RubeGoldburg (2/5): This IS a DEPLORABLE facility. - This IS a DEPLORABLE facility. This review is for the Candlewood Suites hotel in Alexandria, Louisiana, part of the InterContinental Hotels (IHG) Group.
*
This is by far the worst IHG property I have ever stayed at. I am a Elite IHG member who, over many years have stayed at MANY different IHG properties. The ONLY good thing about this property is I got to escape the next day.
*
Major rust on all metal bathroom fixtures.
*
Bathroom mirror had a 2" wide strip unprofessionally glued and taped along the bottom of main mirror to COVER UP the major age spots on the mirror.
*
The lamp shade next to the bed was cracked several places on the main face side and on one side It looked like it may have been hit hard several times. Only 1 of 2 of this fixture's bulbs were working.
*
The bathroom exhaust fan was as loud as a gas powered weed eater.
*
The refrigerator compressor sounded like an idling large diesel truck. It rumbled on an off all night since I could not reach the power plug to turn it off.
*
The room air conditioner ALSO sounded like a diesel truck idling.
*
The TV was VERY UNPROFESSIONALLY mounted on the wall with coiled up cables, wires and cable TV box just dangling below.
*
The exterior of room doors (hallway side) to at least 6 other hotel rooms had golf ball sized and larger dents and rust on several as I walked down the hall.
*
The large full floor to ceiling windows at the entrance to the hotel were so dirty they looked like they have never been cleaned.
*
A LARGE house keeping trash bin overflowing with full large trash bags was parked 15' from the hotel guest elevator entrance from the early PM hours though the night and was there, full of trash, the next morning.
*
The long rug at the entrance to the hotel was filthy with easily visible debris.
*
One interior hallway corner bottom was so damaged that white sheet rock powder dusted the floor for several inches.
*
Why has IHG NOT inspected this property? IHG should immediately divest itself of this deplorable property. It is a DISGRACE to the other good quality and well maintained IHG properties I have stayed at. I will NEVER stay at any Candlewood Suites again and will actively tell others to do the same.
- S4565DIjackb (2/5): I would avoid this place! - Lobby looks nice, but they have a scent that probably is to hide some other odors.
Rooms are horrible. Everything is all rusty and old. The patio area is a joke, not even matching chairs, and bbq looked like it was picked from someone's trash. I didn't feel safe there staying there.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Staff was amazing. Room was well worn but adequate. Parking lot broken in several places. No cover for unloading in the rain.
- Paul (10/5): - The place is old but is kept up with, the property in front of the hotel is just terrible
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I arrive earlier than expected. Lashanda was helpful and provided me with key without me asking. This allowed me to go visit family and return without having to wait.
- Addie (6/5): - We booked this room at the Candlewood Suites, IHG property, in Alexandria, LA, through Expedia. On Expedia, it said it was "pet-friendly", this is what I was searching. Upon check-in, they inform me that there is a $100 pet fee! Really, not posted on the website, "we're under IHG management now", is the explanation. We have stayed in pet-friendly hotels before, way nicer than this one, and have never paid a $100 pet fee; it's always been $25-$45. I refused to sign whatever paperwork they wanted for the pet, never read it, but does it even matter, no! Upon check out, they had to get the manager, flagged my room, still being charged the $100 fee. I asked, does it matter what size dog, mine if <10 lbs, doesn't matter what size dog. Does it matter if it sheds, mine does not shed, no, it doesn't matter. I should have taken all my dogs, the little one and the 2 big dogs that do shed., and are outside dogs. It's ridiculous how this is not explained at time of reservation. If it would not have been so late at night, I would have cancelled the room. I will NEVER book through Expedia again, or book at a IHG managed hotel. I'll go through the actual website of the hotel.
As far as cleanliness, it was clean, but outdated and old. The light in the bathroom had lots of rust on it, so not sure if it's stays very humid in the rooms or if they previously had water issues. Also, the rooms still have carpet, from the pictures online, their rooms had flooring.
- JULIE (4/5): Not the best - The front desk people were very nice. However, our toilet did not flush, the room had a terrible smell and we didn't realize it was in a very unsafe area for females traveling alone. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you were not leaving the hotel. Unfortunately no one addressed the toilet situation, but we only stayed one night.
- Phil (6/5): - The service is great. The building is old, despite upgrades. Our room remained so moist it curled the cover of a paperback book. We had two roaches (or water bugs). We asked housekeeping to come in and do a thorough cleaning because we still had two days left. They offered to move us upstairs but we had already stayed there several days and it was inconvenient to move.
- Robert (6/5): Outdated - Rusty fixtures
Painters tape covering holes in drywall
Paint falling off ceilings
Mirror was covered in industrial glue
- Alexander (2/5): Terrible 1 star - The furniture was all scratched and in disrepair holes in wall with exposed wires the place had to changevour room and still the new room was terrible. I rate this place a 1 star and I will now stick with Hiltons
- Alex (4/5): Very Disappointing for our specific needs. Hotel a little tired but staff were friendly. - Friendly Receptionist. She tried numerous times to call to let us know the room we ordered wasn’t available but our phone was on silent. The disabled room we requested two nights before and confirmed as available was not available when we arrived. The room only had a tub which my wife couldn’t use to get clean after our 8 hour drive on our way home after her having knee replacement surgery, which is why our hotel stays HAD to have at least a walk in shower. She waited until we got home and showered 8 hours later.staff did try to find a shower chair for her to use but couldn’t find one. We ere vey disappointed after 40 minutes out of our way to a hotel with disabled access.
- Amy (8/5): Suites - Spacious suite with friendly front desk staff. Comfy queen bed and linens. Wish the bathroom had ventilation, so things did not get rusty.
- NORVEL (4/5): One night stay. - Much older hotel than appears in picture. No breakfast. Hot water at bathroom sink didn’t work.
- Monique (9/5): Superb -
- rett (4/5): - If you like staying in the ghetto this is your place.
- Hope (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (2/5): - Did not stay went somewhere else
- Dwight (7/5): visiting family - the hotel need same work it is showing it'S age It needed more cleaning in the common areas and the elavators
- handyhounds (10/5): Great service - I'm handicap, in an electric wheelchair, and as soon as we book Trisha, "Tish" called us to make sure we had made a good choice on rooms. We had 3 adults and the room we booked only had 1 bed. She got all pertinent information and called us back to give us the options she could with different rooms and their pluses and minuses. Have never had better service from any hotel! Older building but staff and set up was great for most handicap travelers!
- Leslie (1/5): Bad -
- Belinda (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great super clean.
- Cienega (4/5): Disappointing - It was dirty, the bathroom floors felt nasty and sticky
- Theodore (1/5): Bad -
- Robert (2/5): - The reservation was for a room with 2 beds for myself and my 2 children. Upon checkin I was given a room with 1 queen bed because there were no more rooms available. Then at 5:15 AM someone else was attempting to enter my room with a key because they booked in the same room.
- Dori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phillip (2/5): Room was not reserved - Hotel gave away the room
- James (4/5): Could not stay - Was unable to stay. Tried to check in and they were overwhelmed. Room was not ready. Due to storm, rooms were overbooked.
- robert (6/5): - q
- FREDERICK (10/5): - The only problem I had during my stay was that I was never told that I was entitled to a military discount as I am a 30 year veteran. My reason for my stay was I was attending the American Legion State convention (Louisiana). This was my first visit to Candlewood Suites.
The woman that checked me and my wife in and also checked us out is a definite asset to your company, Her
first name is Tesh. She is to be commended as she was very helpful and professional at all times.
- Tyronejoyce (6/5): Pleasant - CONVIENCE, EVE THE DESK CLERK WAS TRULY PLEASANT ... THE BED WASNT AS SOFT BUT OK FOR REST...THE RUST ON THE OUTDATED FALLING OVER LAMPS THE BUGS DEAD UNDER BATHROOM CABINETS, PEOPLE OPENING THE DOOR 9A ...GLAD MY LATCH WAS ON THE DOOR...APPLIANCES OUTDATED...COUNTER STOVE BROKEN ENDS, RUST ON BATHROOM LIGHTS CHAIR DIDNT LOOK CLEAN ....BUT WE ALWAYS BRING LYSOL AND WIPES AND FRESHNERS...BUT FOR THE PRICE IT WAS OK TO STAY
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Front desk messed up 3 families staying with us reservation and gave them the wrong room type. Rooms smell musty and not super clean. Very outdated.
