We took the Gondola up to the hotel and then from there it was very easy to go to Grindelwald 'First' and was very accesible to some great hikes in the area, and then once the Gondola stopped at 6:00 p.m. it became very quiet and peaceful at the hotel. We had the restaurant and the mountain to ourselves for the rest of the night. Although we read many comments discouraging driving up to the hotel, we definitely could have driven up as we had good weather and the paved road is very driveable in the summer.

There’s a restaurant on site with great food and breakfast is included. Room is well designed and fit 6 of us easily. Bathroom is remodeled and has great shower. Parking was available for free and you can drive up or take the gondola. There’s a large playground that the kids loved! You have easy access to the gondola to get up to first mountain or down to Grindewald.

• Lincoln (10/5): - Once you arrive at Grindelwald's train station you need to walk up to Grindelwald First gondola station. The sidewalks can get a bit crowded, so that can be a bit annoying especially if you have luggage. PLEASE buy some kind of pass, AND check the time your train arrives in the city, otherwise, if you miss the last gondola up and you are stuck. Hours of operation vary depending on the season. Also, check with the staff your arrival time as their normal checkin time is until 4pm. REMEMBER every time you go down or up in the gondolas you have to pay 10 chf each way per person, so.. do yourself a favor and find out which pass you need that will cover the gondola tickets, otherwise, like me.. you will end up spending 80chf to simply go down and walk around the city. Once you make it to the hotel: WOW.. The view is simply breathtaking. We had dinner at the hotel. It was an experience/view I will NEVER forget. We were literally eating above the clouds. The room was super clean and very spacious, and we had great view. Breakfast was great as well. Simple, but it had exactly what we needed. I really, REALLY liked the hotel, and the fact that we were literally in the alps was something I will NEVER forget. However, the fact that we needed to take the gondola up and down and were restricted by their schedule (I think the last one was at 6pm), makes me think twice about returning, otherwise this hotel is a GEM.
• Harish (2/5): - The staff is very arrogant, rude and difficult to work with. Especially Martina she was very rude to us on the phone. They provided us with an incorrect address and we got stuck in the middle of nowhere. We had to call the cops who tracked our coordinates and stated this was an area where cars should not be. We then had to find a different hotel last minute to book. This hotel refused to provide any form of refund even a partial refund since we did not end up staying here. PLEASE AVOID this hotel at all costs! All they care about is money. Expedia at the very least offered us a partial refund.
• Jose (10/5): Perfect hotel in the the perfect place - Hotel location is perfect to enjoy the alps, either if it's things to do and enjoy quietly. Restaurant is very convenient and the place is very conformable. I'll definitely use again if I have the chance.

La ciudad no está dentro de la ciudad está en lo alto así que la manera más práctica de llegar es usar la góndola. En caso de que por alguna razón no puedas llegar a esa hora, avisa a recepción a ver si de alguna manera pueden ayudarte. 2. SI ES POSIBLE LLEGAR en taxi (cuando no hay nieve) de cualquier manera mejor ponerse en contacto en recepción para que te ayuden. 2. Estarás en lo alto de Grindelwald, aún en mayo la temperatura es baja procura ir abrigado. Por último, quisiera decir que estoy sumamente agradecida con el personal, por error olvidamos preguntar su nombre, pero la chica que atendió la recepción, no tenemos palabras para agradecer las facilidades para permitir llegar en las góndolas aún un poquito fuera del horario ni tampoco para programar nuestro servicio de taxi a las 5am, este lugar se robó nuestro corazón y sin duda estamos ansiosos de planear nuestro siguiente viaje y de ser posible esta vez en invierno, el paisaje y La Paz que se sienten no tiene comparación!

• Elizabeth (6/5): - Me hospedé con mis hijos, uno de ellos tiene seis años, en el restaurante por la noche ponen una especie de fogata delimitada por un cristal, mi pequeño acercó la mano y se quemó, el hotel no tuvo ningún medicamento para apoyarnos en atender la quemadura, dada la ubicación no tuvimos ninguna posibilidad de encontrar una farmacia. El hotel debe poner una señalización que el cristal está caliente para evitar accidentes. La ubicación y la vista son muy buenas.

You cannot go wrong with this, it will be expensive & its is the only Hotel on BORT station, food is delicious but expensive. You cannot match the views from the room, restaurant with any other hotel or viewpoint in all of grindelwald & that speaks volume about the hotel Remember, it is only accessible by First Gondola. although you can walk uphill from grindelwald station but with bags I recommend taking gondola for the views & comfort.

Road is paved but very narrow and you have a lot of bikes coming down during the day. You can also take the gondola, First. Hiking is fantastic. Peaceful and solitary at night. Restaurant is great.
• Dmitri (10/5): - The location is unbeatable. Unbelievable 360 views of first mountain and the Swiss Alps. DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone driving up there, only take a funicular from Grindelwald. This a single lane HAIR RAISING- WHITE knuckle drive straight up a steep mountain while tourists and kids zip past you on trote bikes. You will have gray hair.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastisk beliggenhed - Fint hotel. Beliggenheden er fantastisk og udsigten er enestående. Vejen op til hotellet er meget stejl, og kan godt være lidt skræmmende for nogle første gang, man kører op. Godt udgangspunkt for vandreture væk fra menneskemyldret i Grindelwald. Fint rent og velholdt værelse. Venligt og imødekommende personale. Hotellet ligger lige ved siden af kabelbanestationen, hvor der er mange turister, men de fleste bruger kun stationen som mellemstation, og mange kører ned på løbehjul, og de er på ingen måde til gene omkring hotellet. Maden i restauranten er ok, og prisniveauet er acceptabelt (Schweiz er dyrt).
• Monique (10/5): - Beautiful location and spectacular views. Nice and clean facilities with a modern twist on a traditional aesthetic. Great breakfast. The only dinner option is the hotel but it is good and has a kids menu. We had our own clean, modern bathroom, but it was down the hall from our room (not an issue just wanting others to be aware). Note if you don’t drive to the hotel, you have to pay for the gondola.
• HYUNYE (6/5): It's got the best view, but iffy to call it hotel - facility : It was very clean and the bathroom was completely new. However, you can feel the noise between walls and between floors. You can know the number of people in the room next door, the country where they are from, and the content of the conversation even if you don't want to know it. And there is no refrigerator in the room. accessibility : Highly recommended for those who like to stay in their accommodation. But there are restrictions on travel because you have to move according to the gondola departure/closing time. service : The staff are generally friendly and nice. Even though I almost had an unfortunate incident due to a taxi issue(Gratefully, the manager responded kindly and I checked out safely). However, an staff's comment, “If there is a problem with the taxis, they will take charge of from the hotel, so the customer should get confirmation” made me anxious all night and was very absurb(Fortunately the taxi arrived on time. Frutta Taxi👍). All customers who book this hotel make their reservations with accessibility in mind, but the hotel doesn't have their own pick-up service (even if operated for a fee), and doesn't even contact the taxi company and instead ask for confirmation, which is something I have never experienced in a hotel in any country. I don't know and care what happened between this hotel and the taxi company before, but it's non of custormers' business. I wish you were explanable nicely, if there was a certain reason for some issue.

• Sevda (8/5): - The surroundings of the property make this a truly unique and memorable experience. The views, cows right on property, large play area for kids and the cable car that takes you up the mountain were a treat! The room was comfortable for a one-night stay only. No slippers, robes and not enough towels for a 4 person room. The breakfast that's included was poor - flies everywhere (likely due to the cows on property) so it's not a good feeling seeing the flies on the meats, cheeses, bread and other food items - lost our appetite quickly. There were flies everywhere so recommend they find some solution for this. For dinner we dined at their on-site restaurant and the food was mediocre for the price paid. Only one staff member who seemed overwhelmed. He had trouble conversing with us (English) and the table behind us (Korean but speaking English). Recommend this property for a unique experience but skip all meals and hopefully they fix the fly problem.

• Sandra (10/5): Great - Great sleep and view, cosy, welcoming staff and atmosphere. One stop with Grindelwald First cable car (Bort). Accessible by car. Had the room with separate private bathroom opposite the bedroom, would book it again.
• Jacob (4/5): - Given the location of the property there is only 2 modes of access ( the gondola and hiking). From google earth it looked to be car accessible (private roadway) and we assumed either a taxi or the gondola could take us up. Well the gondola shut down due to some issue and it was poring rain. The hotel said a taxi could take us but after calling multiple taxis they couldn’t, and we just had no way of getting to the property because the hike was out of the picture with our luggage so we missed 1/2 nights at the hotel. We paid for another property and slept off our anger and frustration. In the morning we checked into our room and found that the bathroom was separate from the actual room for us. This was annoying given you would have to walk across a public hallway to get to our room. Whatever we said. Upon entering our room it was fairly clean but there was smashed bugs on the wall and ceiling. The room was clean other than that. We went to eat dinner which tasted okay. We both ordered the European version of a rib eye but what we received seemed like pork. Very chewy and wouldn’t recommend. Carrots overcooked to mush and potatoes bland. Just after dinner as soon as I made it upstairs to my room and sat on the toilet with some sort of food reaction. Was very unpleasant. Overall if you are a tourist DONT stay here given the location and the inconvenience it gives you while exploring Grindelwald. There are way nicer and cheaper hotels on grinldwald that are better.

It was a great choice to combine with our stay in Bern city, and extended it to Bort, Grindelwald. We were lucky with the weather, sunshine the whole 3 days since we reached Grindelwald. The view from the hotel is such a splendor!

• David (10/5): Bort Switzerland review - Amazing location!! If you are active and enjoy hiking, trail running and looking out at amazing views I highly recommend it. The only issue we had (family if 4 stayed 5 nights) is with the house flys. Due to being in the farm mountain country cows (through the area not directly on the property) will attract flies. Not much you can do but be accepting of nature during summer. We made a fun game out of swatting the flies out of the room before bed. The kids found it funny. It’s all what you make of it. The staff and food were fantastic. Hopefully come back again some day. Would be cool to stay during ski season as well.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Beautiful Bort - This place was great! Clean rooms, good food, friendly staff and breathtaking views that are hard to rival elsewhere in Switzerland. It’s all about location up here in the mountains with easy access to hiking trails and the cable car in your backyard to take you to Grindelwald and First. Don’t miss the chance to ride the mountain carts from First back to the hotel! This is an insanely fun thrill ride that is undersold by those who work there. We would’ve done this ALL DAY given the chance
• Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing place for a family vacation ( we traveled with a 5 year old child) : clean spacious rooms ( we were upgraded to a quadruple room) , stunning views , great kids playground , little indoor playcorner for little kids, great service in the restaurant . Highly recommended !
• mark (10/5): I would stay there again and again - Berghaus Bort is lovely. The staff are terrific, the rooms are bright and clean, and the food is top notch. If you go there, get the half board. It's a special, off-menu dinner that is fabulous.
• Alison (8/5): Charming mountain chalet hotel - The hotel was very charming and set in a stunningly beautiful location. The staff were very friendly, the food was delicious, and the rooms were comfortable.There was so much to do in the area that in four days we had still not done everything! We have two boys who also really enjoyed the playground right outside the hotel. There were a few minor downsides to be aware of...the location is awkward to access with a lot of luggage and no car - it's up a gondola which is a ten minute walk up hill from the main train station to mid-mountain. We were a family of 4 travelling by train with quite a bit of luggage so that was a bit inconvenient, and there were no lifts in the hotel, so up quite a few stairs if your room is on the second floor. Our room did not have a fan or air conditioning so it became very warm on the hot and muggy days. Also, the bathroom we had for our family room was down the hall. It was private but not ensuite. Having said all that, the upsides definitely outweighed any downsides, and I would still highly recommend the hotel as we really enjoyed our stay. But it is worth being aware of some of these idiosyncrasies ahead of time when booking.
• Glen (8/5): Nice hotel in unique location - This is a unique hotel located at one of the 2 gondola stations between Grindelwald and First located about halfway up the mountain to First. The facilities were clean and modern. The staff was friendly and helpful. The mountain views from the hotel (our room included) are absolutely spectacular. Our room included a king bed and two twins with plenty of storage space which accommodated our family of 4 nicely. The most significant negative about the place is that the gondola only operates from 1000-1700. That's fine for visiting First, but a huge inconvenience if you're trying to visit other Jungfrau area attractions and don't have your own car. Lack of transportation also limits dinner options to the hotel dining room. The menu is eclectic and may not be to everyone's taste. One other issue that was not a problem for us, but may be for others is that, like many Swiss hotels, room climate control during the summer months means leaving the windows open as there is no a/c. The beautiful pastures that dominate the hillside have lots of dairy cows which traditionally wear large bells which can be heard day and night throughout the area. For us, they were rather like wind chimes, but others may not feel that way.
• Michelle (10/5): Best kept secret in Grindelwald - Amazing views, superb food, attentive staff and complete quiet at night. Berghaus Bort is a true find. It has been our pleasure to visit in both summer and winter. Two different experiences outside but still the same awesome food and staff on the inside. Highly recommend staying here for a once in a lifetime experience.
• Kristen (8/5): Secluded, clean and cozy in the alps - We really enjoyed our stay at the Bort. From the friendly check in to our departure everyone was very nice. The rooms are extremely clean, simple yet cozy. The halfboard dinner was excellent, exceeded my expectations and was a good value for prices in Switzerland. The Restaurant staff was great and on clear days has a stellar mountain view as well. The hotel is very secluded in the winter which can be a plus or minus depending on what you are looking for. It is only accessible by cable car by 4:15 pm and besides the hotel there isn't anything else up there. we got a few drinks and snacks for our room from the Co op in town and kept them cold outdoor on our window ledge. The only negative I could say was a little bit of noise from ski boots going up and down the stairs but it wasn't hindering to our sleep at all and the lack of a hot tub. What they lacked in hot tubbing they made up for with very clean hot showers. I would definitely recommend this ski in ski out hotel.

• Loved it ! (10/5): Love love love it! - Charming facility at first stop of gondola which made for a fun ride and intro to Grindelwald. Trotti bikes were a blast and charged with the fear of a major wipeout at any moment. :-) The food at Berghaus was wonderful ... We had both breakfast and dinner plans. The bathroom down the hall was a surprise as I didn't read the details but it was never a problem as our family had our own dedicated bathroom. The hikes in the local area were fabulous for us ... Half day fun with a nice lunch break. Really loved it all ... Xoxo
• Albert Lee (10/5): The best hotel ever in my life. - every staff was excellent and kind. and not only breakfast, but also every dish in the menu was amazing, you don't need to find another restaurant for lunch or dinner just staying this hotel and eating their food. Try everything, which we did.
• Family of four (10/5): Breath-taking views, close to hiking trails - We loved our summertime stay at Berghaus Bort! The owners and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Delicious meals and cosy, colorful decor. We'd love to return.
