- Xavier (6/5): While perfectly charming for an authentic traditional experience, the hotel could benefit from a good refresh. - Great location and authentic. Despite the staff's exceptional helpfulness and kindness, it's hard to ignore the overall impression that this hotel, with its vestiges of old-world charm and authenticity, has seen better days. The potential is certainly still there, but a thorough overhaul, both in terms of providing adequate comfort and improving the overall appearance, would be beneficial.

- Lukas (8/5): - A lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are spacious, the pool is perfect for cooling off in hot weather, and the restaurant is highly recommended. We then booked a shared minibus through the hotel, which was well-organized but far too expensive. That's the only downside, though.
- Laurent (6/5): -
- Richard (9/5): Very relaxing - Really lovely peaceful location on the island
- Sally (9/5): An architectural treat! - Absolutely gorgeous architecture. Just little jewelboxes of traditional housing. What a treat! It's quiet on the island but they offer free bikes to circumnavigate. The pool can be quiet warm depending on ambient temperature. Lots of high powered fans for the bedroom
Service long et chaotic parfois.
- Giulia Anita (10/5): - Sorprendente location staff gentile, disponibile e sempre presente. Bellissime case sospese in un rigoglioso e magnifico giardino fiorito. Consigliato!
- HEIDI (8/5): Tolle Lage lohnt die etwas beschwerliche Anreise (Fähre). - Spezielle Lage auf der Insel Koh Trong. Toller Garten.
- Evie (8/5): - The situation of the hotel is beautiful and pool is wonderful. Very in keeping with local architecture traditions. Menu was limited; some items not available.
The ferry runs but by a schedule of its own and can be time consuming waiting to cross.
- Anne Rubinstein (8/5): -
- Fletch (9/5): - Breakfast was lovely. The location is absolutely beautiful located on the Koh Trong island off Kratie. There was no air-conditioning so it was a bit hot. The pool was beautiful but in the full sun so the water was hot.
- Letch (10/5): - The design of the villas in the beautiful gardens around the pool on the tranquil island of Koh Trong.
- Vilius (9/5): A few nights in a place where the time runs slower - I loved the athmosphere of the surroundings - being in the countryside of Cambodia and being able to experience the slow flow of time was a pure pleasure and staying at this hotel and on the island - away from the city buzz - was one of the highlights of my trip to Cambodia. In addition, the staff at the hotel was wonderful and very helpful, would love to come back. One could think about placing some umbrellas around the pool to protect the sunbeds (and the visitors) from direct sunshine.
- Karel (10/5): Lovely place on island in the river - A very special place with great traditional wooden houses as rooms. Really loved the place. Something different and very well done. Tasteful, artful, very spacious and comfortable rooms. An atmosferic open restaurant with good food. Large pool. All in a beautiful setting on the quiet island in front of Kratie. A great place to stay! Nothing
- Bruno (9/5): Enchanted, peaceful and beautiful place in the midst of nature - Location, pool, place, ambient, decoration Breakfast light, hard mattress
- Melanie (9/5): Peaceful stay on the Mekong island - A small gem in Koh Trong island! The rooms are absolutely beautiful! The view on the bamboos from the window is very relaxing. You can hear the birds chanting. The gardens are very well taken care of given the size of the property!
Definitely recommend this place for couples looking for a some luxury experience on the Mekong. Given the strong efforts from the rest of the island to reduce waste, and the high standards of the rooms, I was quite disappointed to see that the resort doesn’t put refillable glass bottles in the rooms, but instead provide plastic bottles.
However I believe that this could be easily fixed since I already seen that they are using refillable shampoo and soap instead of single-use bottles! 👌
Given as well the strong emphasis to promote local products and handcrafts in their resort (which I really like, especially all the silk items!), I would love to see that the restaurant provide a locally produced infusions for breakfast instead of the industrial Lipton tea.
- Adam (8/5): Very good -
- AGNES (8/5): - Un très beau cadre même si l’hôtel manque un peu d’entretien
- Camilla (4/5): Poor service and dirty rooms - We stayed three nights at this resort, and were quite disappointed. The rooms were very dark, there were fans instead of aircondition, the beds are really hard, the wifi didn’t work in the room, and it was dirty with spider webs all over the ceiling. The mosquito net was also broken. Not what we expected at all! On the second day, the pool was filled with so many chemicals that it was impossible to see through the water and see the tiles on the bottom of the pool.
The service provided was also very poor. When we went dolphin watching, we were told to message the hotel on whatsapp to let them know when to pick us up with their tuk tuk. We sent them a message when we were waiting for the ferry, and they read it immideately. However, it took them an hour to respond. We sent them three texts asking if they could pick us up, that we were on the ferry and once again when we had arrived in the port. When they finally answered, all they said was «yes tha boat going now». We told them that the boat had arrived 30 minutes ago, and that we had started walking because they never answered. They never picked us up, and it took us about one hour to walk back to the resort. We never even got an explanation or an apology.
Only one of the staff members were smiling, while the rest looked careless, tired and cranky.
The resort is way too pricey considering what you get for your money.
- Julie (7/5): Beautiful resort with old style villas but management could be improved - Beautiful villas and grounds, very tastefully furnished. Khmer food was good. Large pool Staff was a bit clueless and management seemed to ignore guests. A few things could be better managed: offering free private boat (instead of 15 usd) so guests don’t have to wait, larger breakfast. The villa was breezy but lack of AC could be a problem in hot season. It could be an amazing luxury stay but a few things were lacking
- Adam (9/5): Beautiful and quiet rural setting on a beautiful island. - The quiet and beautiful gardens Nothing … there wasn’t a safe in the rooms but this was a minor problem as the resort had an office safe.
- Steven (10/5): Lovely place - This is a very nice hotel in the middle of an island which is very accessible by ferry. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. Would have liked to stay a few extra days. The website does not have the correct spelling of this place, It needs to be corrected so people can find it without difficulty.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Pepperell (9/5): Superb - Beautiful traditional wooden bungalow. Beautifully appointed. Lovely pool and gardens. Koh Trong is a lovely quiet island . Very tranquil.
- Ngin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dalton (8/5): Beautiful location on an amazing island! - Gorgeous location, food was amazing! Staff very friendly Could’ve done with a fridge, can cope without aircon as fan was great. Maybe a little bit lighter inside the room
- Quentin (7/5): During wet season, you might prefer stay in Kratie downtown - The resort could be amazing because genuinely authentic Khmer habitat.
But off season I do not recommend it was deserted and poorly maintained. Staff was nice but careless (stuck on their phone)
Swimming pool under maintenance without telling customers
Access so complicated and communication about it difficult.
- Matthew (8/5): Very good - Experience of being on an island on the river. Riding bikes was great!!
- Geraldine (7/5): Good -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - A fabulous place to stay. Beautiful villas, quirky and charming. There is just a fan which is nice for a change, as long as you don't move. We went in the rainy season and the pool was like a bath. The island itself was a gentle break from cities and temples. Magical!
- Hannah (7/5): A beautiful place to stay in a quiet out of the way location. Great experience. - The architecture and resort layout was beautiful. The rooms were clean and well appointed with lovely furnishings. The food was not the best, but was to be expected in this remote location. We were charged on check out for shuttle transfers to and from the ferry dock which we were not told about prior. The pool was very warm (bath water temp), but it was lovely to swim in after being caught in the monsoon rains!
Fans and mosquito nets in the room were sufficient, but possibly air conditioning would be expected for the price.
- Benjamim (7/5): Good - Nice location and ambiance. Rooms with no A/C
Food was somehow below average. Meager fruit selection
- Elizabeth (8/5): Gorgeous place, lovely people, but please get some more fans! - The location is stunning. The island is beautiful and the grounds are stunning. The buildings are beautiful and spacious and it's lovely to have a tub! The people here are very nice and the food is delicious. it's super great to have breakfast included and to have a ride to and from the boat-- walking the stretch through the hot sand that everyone else has to looks miserable with bags. The pool is huge and it's amazing to have the pool! It's difficult to communicate and arrange things here. There are a few people who speak English enough to arrange tours or figure out travel/boat times, etc, and if they're around it's great, but if they're not you need patience. We stayed in a villa and for the price, it was too hot. I have stayed in cheap bungalows and rooms in SEA and they have fans for when you're sleeping. This building is dark and in the sun all day and the ceiling fan is not enough. The room was in the 40s when I was trying to sleep and it wasn't ok. I didn't sleep at all. If they would just give you more fans it would be ok! For the price it makes no sense. They have fans in the restaurant and main building that isn't for guests...
- Bruno (5/5): Passable -
- Karine (9/5): Superb - Beautiful old Khmer houses on an Island. Huge rooms, comfortable, no air-con on purpose therefore quite hot during the night. No safe in the room.
- Lisa (6/5): I see so much potential so disappointed that I couldn’t write a more positive review. - The island was beautiful. It is located in a secluded part of the island so it is very quiet with the exception of the cicadas at times. The rooms were traditional Khmer wooden houses which I love. We had a 5 out of 5 star rating stay prior to arriving in Kratie where we could not fault a thing. They were extremely welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. As a result we were underwhelmed when we arrived.
The greeting was not very warm. The staff apart from GM had very limited English if any, so this made it challenging. There was no enthusiasm or interest shown in what we had planned or how our day went which makes it more personal. Requests sometimes had to be made more than once and sometimes could not be answered. There was no extras such as offering to get drinks when sitting by the pool which is a missed opportunity not only to provide a great service but to increase revenue.
The room wasn’t prepared before we arrived which removed the inviting feeling. Curtains were closed, lights and fan were off and blinds on balcony were down. The view of garden from the balcony was beautiful so it would be much nicer to see that when we arrived. I had to put these blinds up myself which wasn’t easy. The lighting in the room was very dim. The mosquito net smelt very musty. We had a frog in the toilet every morning. I didn’t realise there was no fridge and air conditioning. In these sort of temperatures I had wrongly assumed there would be. The mattress was very hard so difficult to sleep on with this and just a ceiling fan for cooling. A bit of clean up in certain areas is needed.
Whilst I understand they have struggled over the past few years some improvements can be made with minimal or no expense.
- Thierry (8/5): Very good - The resort is like an oasis and the staff is exceedingly kind and nice The rooms are vety dark, humid and hot without air conditioning
- Ari (9/5): Delightful - Excellent food, nice pool Hot in beautiful cabins despite fans. Could consider contracting a private boat for transportvfrom Krstie instead of clumsy public ferry.
- Li-da (10/5): Beautiful tranquil oasis that made me sigh on arrival as it was so beautiful - Peaceful green oasis. Traditional wooden huts on stilts. Decor tasteful. When I walked in I literally sighed it was so beautiful! Nothing
- Fabienne (9/5): Superb - Super quiet, thé location and place is amazing.
The staff is super nice and helpful.
The restaurant is very good and prices are within normal range for Cambodia. The travel arranged from Kratie to Kampot should have been clearer as we ended up using a shared taxi with 10 other people and a motorbike and a chicken : it was fast but not so comfortable. It s ok but you have to be ready for this kind of experience.
- Norbert (9/5): Perfect spot for a relaxing breakout! 1-2 more days here would had been worse it! - Wonderful location and delicious food! - we had a lot of fun! Renting motorbikes to discover the island! Spending your time in the resort was Sonntag much more fun, then trying to watch the Mekong dolphins! Highly recommended! Be on time to catch a ferry!
- Miranda (8/5): Very good -
- Oscar (8/5): Very good - Very nice resort, in a nice environment with a great swimming pool. Very nice facility and a good spot to discover the island by bike. Not easy to reach as the ferry timing was not always fixed. Rooms are a bit rustic and dark
- Sharyn (8/5): Very good - Loved the traditional Cambodian house and decor.
Food was excellent The room was a little shabby, needed some maintenance
- Tamara (8/5): Very good - lovely staff and the pool amazing very poor lighting in the rooms
some of the staff had problems with inerstsndin English
was a little bit hard to get on and off the Island
- Alberto (6/5): Pleasant - beautiful place that needs maintenance they need to put mosquito nets in all the windows and doors, and invest in bathroom doors
- Jatinder (10/5): amazing oasis! - beautiful resort and most amazing private huts! decor was amazing and a roll top bath! great for couples wanting to treat themselves. the island is unique as well and a must for off the beaten track with no cars and to cycle around for a real authentic Cambodian life feel.
food was delicious and pool was great. one of our fave places on our trip! can’t wait to come back!
- Ian (7/5): Beautiful gardens and pool, very traditional - Beautiful gardens, very traditional and authentic rooms, great pool, friendly staff Could do with a bit of a clean
- Janis (5/5): Very dim lighting, no fridge... - Breakfast & dinner were acceptable. Confusion rained with the booking. They said I was upgraded but I was supposed to have a dwelling to myself that didn't happen. I was sharing a house. Staff were limited, they tried hard but were overworked & not sufficiently staffed to do the job. It was my second time here & to be honest next time I will remain on the main land.
- Graham (7/5): Good - beautiful setting in rural type surroundings on island . spacious rooms rooms Rey hot during day but well ventilated for evenings
- Phil (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Already knew there was no ac and mosquito nets for sleeping so prepared for the back to nature philosophy Very stained towels, torn sheets, no pillowcases
- Jonathan (10/5): - I felt like I was on a glamorous, 1940s-era Hollywood film set of a Khmer village. Some pieces were dated, but that added to the old-world charm.
The island is idyllic (borrow one of the hotel bikes!), but the ferry is finicky. A Canadian couple told me they never waited more than 15 minutes, but I spent considerably more time waiting on it. If you’re in a pinch, as I was, call the hotel and they will call a private boat for you. It’s $5 one way for private boat vs 25 cents for the ferry. The hotel helpfully arranged my pickups from the ferry with a call as well.
About that pinch. I had only given myself one night in Kratie and planned to see the freshwater dolphins the afternoon I arrived. If you do this, best to go see the dolphins first, then go to the hotel as the ferry could eat up your time. The staff was super helpful though in my pinch, and I didn’t have to rearrange a bunch of already booked travel.
Better yet, give yourself two nights at this resort and enjoy it. It’s a good place to spend some time with the lead in your life.
- Monique (8/5): Good hotel - Lovely setting and staff. Nearby temple with loud music starting at 4.45 am and constant smell if smoke from waste burning
- Clement (8/5): - Lovely hotel on an island in the middle of the Mekong river, with several wooden bungalows. Huge pool which is well maintained. The best part are the surroundings as it is very green and quiet (no cars allowed). Transfer was a little stressful as the guidebook indicated the wrong location to catch the public boat (it is no longer by the Jasmine Boat restaurant but at the Kratie Boat Port - more indications by email from the hotel would have helped). Also, the phone number indicated on Expedia refers to the previous manager... who no longer works at the property.
- Milena (6/5): Beautiful garden - The resort has a wonderful garden and beautiful pool. The fact that it's on an island has both a positive side (being in a quite place) and a negative one (you need to take a boat then a tuk tuk or motorbike or walk 3 km to reach it). The washbasin was nice but done in a way that it was difficult to wash my face. There is no shower, but a bathtub and now hot water. Food has space for improvement. WiFi was not working well.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect place, in a paradise island on the Mekong - an amazing place, in an idyllic island...
Great staff, but sadly understaffed, so a small team seems to handle everything days and nights... impossible to make it a true paradise, which it should be, big time. Rooms are beautiful, pool and surroundings are just WOUAOUH! and the island itself is a jewel...
- Sand (10/5): - Beau cadre et adresse de charme. Bungalow sympa.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great villas. Awesome staff, lovely meals. And relaxing atmosphere.
- George (8/5): Beautiful environment but lacking comfort. - Positives were a very peaceful, pretty location. Beautiful gardens. Spacious bungalows. Pool was best on our trip. Manager and staff helpful. Free bikes to go round the island, although a little old and rusty. Reasonable food, although limited options for vegetarians. There is a vegetarian pizza.
Main negative was very old and extremely hard mattress which was very uncomfortable and made sleep difficult.
Interior lighting in the bungalows was poor. The mosquito net is very old.
Absence of a shower head made showering awkward.
No umbrellas around the poolside for shade.
Pricey for what you get.
- Adrian (10/5): Lovely Island Retreat - Gorgeous hotel.
Just fourteen rooms - so the place is never going to be "busy".
Rooms are very spacious - though a bit gloomy because of the extensive use of locally sourced woods that are dark in colour.
Just getting to the hotel was a fun mini adventure in itself. Most people only stay one night as they are there to see the local dolphins - so travelling light to the hotel is not difficult. If, like us, you didn't travel light - an extra motorbike will be needed to meet you on the beach to take your luggage. Yes - you'll arrive on the beach, get on the back of a motorbike - and be taken on a 5 minute ride to the hotel. My wife was dreading it - but ended up loving it.
Food and drink was fine, thought the internet for those in need of it can be a bit hit and miss. Not the fault of the hotel - it's just the telephone service to the island the hotel is on isn't entirely reliable.
Would we go back?
No question - we'd love to.
