- Jason (1/5): Do not recommend, will not return. - Location near Manoa Valley Theatre and it is a historic building. Dirty. Feces and urine on toilet seats. Had leak in roof of first room, no soap in bathroom, no trash can, maid cleaned the toilet. Host moved us to another ‘Davies’ room where we left in a hurry for our dinner/theatre date. Upon return and closer inspection, this toilet was also equally filthy, AC was not functioning, bed had some kind of bugs and/or evidence of bugs, sheets had holes, no fan in the bathroom, and either pet or human hair was on the bedspread - we packed up and left. Disgusting and unacceptable.
- Mark (6/5): - This property has so much potential. I believe a plaque outside said it was a historic home built in the early 1900's, and it has many unique architectural features inside and out. It also has many numerous native plants in the backyard that would make a beautiful secluded retreat in the middle of the city, along with a pool with several custom features, including a stone waterfall. Unfortunately, the property has been neglected and is just waiting to be brought back to it's former glory. Hopefully the owners will be able to find the funds and vision for a full renovation. If it was renovated I would consider visiting again.
- Andrei (1/5): Highly disappointing. I want my money back because I didn’t get the product that I paid for. - I hated it. Even though this is a nice historic building, but it is in the state of complete disrepair and is very poorly managed and maintained. No air conditioning despite what the website says. It is very hot inside the property and in the room. The manager that doesn’t provide any information and doesn’t even meet you when you check in. Lots of confusion with where to park, how to get things inside, coffee maker is not working in the hallway, faucet in the sink that I fallen apart as you use them . It looks like family members of the manager are using it as a living facility and cooking on the same floor where we stayed inside their rooms. The manager is impossible to reach by phone. The room is not very clean. The place looks abandoned and it looks like we’re the only people staying here because it is otherwise empty. Who gave this property three stars? It’s not even a hotel, motel or a bed-and-breakfast place. It looks like a big old disc repaired family home where they are renting some rooms without having any idea how to run hospitality business.

- Susan (10/5): - This a charming and beautiful old building. The individual rooms and common spaces are inviting, and sitting on the lanai with a view of Honolulu is wonderful! The owners provide a simple but filling breakfast and a coffee station and fridge near the sleeping quarters. All staff were welcoming and receptive to questions. If you’re looking for accommodation away from the Waikiki area, or near UH, this is a great choice. We would definitely stay here again!

- Mary Ann (8/5): - This is an old and historic property. It is still being renovated , but was comfortable and gave an experience of an old, historic plantation home. Manoa Valley is a good location. It was nice to sit out in the morning and look at the garden and listen to the birds.
- Rae (4/5): Ok for a one night stay, over priced for what it was. - The price was right for one night and the bed was comfortable enough, but could be replaced. A nice view from our window, and very quiet neighborhood. Clean, and spacious room for two people, and close to downtown and fabulous restaurants. Easy, free parking on site for our rental car. we could not get the room very cool. the split AC unit on the wall was not able to cool down the room, so we kept the windows open (they have screens), but would not stay here again for that alone. fine for one night to crash after a long travel day. the breakfast was long gone by 8am when we went downstairs, the coffee was those K-cup machines (blech). I would not consider this a "bed and breakfast". Instead we drove up the hill to the amazing Waioli Kitchen.

- Chad (10/5): - We like this historical charming property with a nice garden and indoor/ outdoor sitting areas. The property is in Manoa residential area near the university. It feels like visiting relatives in Hawaii. It is not resort hotel type of experience. Lisa works so hard to get us ice water and figure out the AC for us. She is such a nice host. We will like to come back and suggest this place to others.
- Cynthia (7/5): Quiet, quaint, shabby-chic historic inn vibe in a great location; as restoration progresses will be - It was quiet and the bed was pretty comfortable though definitely needs new pillows and bedding. Great location and view. Very homey feel, large room so not cramped. No coffee on 2nd Floor though was supposed to be available 24/7. Room was pretty warm despite the fan. The smoke alarm had been removed. While I love the historic inn and appreciate the antique vibe, I would suggest replacing some things like very old and stained lampshades, replacing bedding and pillows. Making sure coffee, extra toilet paper etc available. Railing on stairs needed all the way to top. And please remove the lockboxes on the doors if they're not in use.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful BNB on the rise - The staff was super friendly, and I love that they're trying to renovate and restore this beautiful old home. My room was huge, and they had good wifi with TV access to all streaming services. However, it seemed like the room and bathroom hadn't been cleaned, and I didn't have control over the air conditioning in my room. Otherwise, beautiful spot, and I suspect will only get better!
- Karen L (4/5): - The "cook" only knew how to cook "scrambled" eggs (which were actually chopped up fried eggs); rarely had anything but semi-dried bread to make toast for ourselves. Certainly not a breakfast you would expect at a B&B. Many seemingly permanent relatives(?) boarders(?) always hanging around. The feeling was that we were intruding on a family home. Had to ask for bottled water; when a new supply arrived it was quickly taken by the "permanent" group who lived there and we were just told that there wasn't any. Everything, inside and out, looked like it was on its last legs and that the inn was just hanging on by a thread. Really, this should NOT be listed on Expedia. A great disappointment to say the least.
- Jamie (4/5): Disappointing. - Our room was clean, as were the common facilities. It was close to UH Manoa where our daughter is attending. We stayed at this property in 2021 when it was under different ownership. I was aware that it is an older, historic home with charm. And quirks. There is a serious lack of attention to detail, however, with many things. The towels were worn and mismatched. The Kleenex box was empty in our room. The breakfast was adequate, but lacking the service detail that was there before. Previously we were served at set tables w/ china plates, served brewed tea/coffee (not Keurig from Costco). This breakfast was like something available at Best Western. Not even sure if the fire detector met code. I have included a picture of what was in our room.
- Rendy (10/5): Good stay - I had a very good stay. Good location. Easy to take the bus to Waikiki. Very spacious room! I had no problem with the pool not being operational and there may be locations where the photos are no longer current but I found it unacceptable that this being sent after booking when you can no longer cancel free of charge. So if you do book for the pool, don't do it.
- William (8/5): Nice house andf good location. - The house is classic, so staying in that type of place is a sharp contrast to the high-rises in Waikiki. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We spent two nights and enjoyed the stay. The breakfast was basic. Eggs, bacon/sausage/ham and/or pancakes, some fruit and yogurt. For those of us that have done many B&Bs over the years, the breakfast is the benchmark for a rating, and this one should be considered a work in progress.
- Clinton (6/5): - This is a neat historic house turned into a bed and breakfast. It has room for improvement and it will come with time as it has new owners as of last year.
- Jana (8/5): A paradise in the making. - Hidden gem in Manoa Valley with an incredible view across the skyline of Waikiki Beach. Very charming flair. The rooms are mostly clean and the beds are comfortable. Here and there some dust but it somehow fits to the property. It feels like the staff is not so much experienced in the hospitality business. They were all very nice but there is some room for improvement. For example, they make really delicious pancakes (fresh every day!) and then forget to put the syrup on the bar. You'll get it if you ask, of course.
- Grant (1/5): We could not stay there so left within the hour! - Nothing. We did receive an email prior to our arrival from the property saying some parts were under renovation and the pool was closed but neither of these points were an issue however there was a lot more that needed to be advertised regarding the condition and facilities of this place. Dirty, poor facilities, everything old and worn, even a note left in room to please excuse cobwebs and dust as it is an old house! Dirty old mop in the shower, no shower head just a hose. Just nothing up to an acceptable standard.
- Joann (1/5): Horrible a nightmare! - Nothing We are well traveled and this was the worst place we have ever stayed. I’m disabled and asked for a disability room, was given a third floor room with no elevator. My husband had to nearly carry me up three flight of stairs. The room didn’t have hot water in the sink as the faucets were broken, the sheets smelled, had to cover our pillows with our own clothes in order to sleep at all. Air conditioning didn’t work well, was hot all night. All in all a hostile atmosphere for a hotel price. Didn’t even try to get the free breakfast that was limited to the times of 7:00 to 8:30am. It was a nightmare for us.
- MIchael (6/5): - The inn is a historic home. It needs lots of work. The bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was good. There was lots of noise during the night that sounded like furniture being moved around over our heads. The staff is a trio of young adults who are working on the property and hosting…hopefully they will grow into the hosting role and manage to make the repairs needed to return the property to it’s former glory.

- Beverly1208 (6/5): DON'T BE SURPRISED! - This Inn has wonderful potential . . . great location - quiet neighborhood near the University, close to freeway. The managers of the inn are doing their best and are sincere about their job and caring for each guest. However, the pictures are very deceiving . . . the inn is very old as it should be as it is an historical property. But, it needs quite a few updates to be anywhere near the photos presented! There is even a letter stating that when you arrive in your room. I will admit, the beds are comfortable and TV works fine. Breakfast was just adequate as they could do a lot more with selection, presentation and preparation. Some fresh Hawaiian fruit should be offered at the very least.

Both the Uber driver & I went WOW! I was looking for the old Hawaii & this Inn ticked all the boxes. It was built in 1919 & is on the US heritage buildings register. I liked everything about it!
- leonah584 (8/5): A beautiful historic building with all the quirkiness that old buildings bring! - If you need everything to be pristine & new do t go here …BUT… if you love historic architecture with all the quirky charm and character that old buildings bring, you may well fall in love with Manoa Valley Inn. It is being restored and the room pictures and names don’t necessarily match up but it is a work in progress! The staff were so kind and helpful and we cannot wait to go back. Next time I want to stay longer! I absolutely LOVED my time here!

The house is a real Victorian mansion and my room was very cute. Lisa, the owner, is very friendly, welcoming and caring. Highly recommend for those seeking an authentic experience, quietness and romantic.

- Peter (8/5): Beautiful, quiet , likely unique olde world B&B style hotel near University, perfect for overnight - Beautiful old wooden-built hotel, still being restored to former glory, with lovely olde worlde rooms, more a bed & breakfast, set in the University neighborhood away from city hustle. It was perfect for a quiet overnight stay, especially for older couples. Nice setting, gardens. Maybe a little fridge in the room would help , and cleaner verandah furniture. You should be aware it's not a modern place, but that's the charm. It's taxi or bus to Waikiki ., a good 15-20 mins due to traffic and routing. The pool is being renovated

- Sullivan (7/5): I would go there again. Good place for one night in Honolulu. No Touristy Beach view for me. - I liked the old fashioned B&B in a historical landmark. Many would say everything was a bit long in the tooth, but I appreciate that sort of thing. Lisa, my host, was a gem. Breakfast could have been better with a little more effort. There is a menu board that lists pancakes, fruit, toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, and rice. Drinks offered were juice, tea, and coffee. They had no rice or sausage available that day. I see no good excuse for no rice, and you can cross sausage off the list with no penalty. The juice had no fruit juice content, it was a too-weak mix. Not good. the eggs I got were excellent scrambled, though I asked for over-easy. I am sure they would have corrected if I had asked, but I ate them, and they were good. I couldn't get the tv to work.

Beautiful view of downtown Honolulu. Great old house. I loved our four poster bed, just like at Grandma’s house. Nothing. There was no towels in my room, but they were sweet about that and brought me some as soon as I brought it to their attention.

However I would really appreciate it if the host could mention this is a BnB on your booking list. Please use real, representative photos. The cleanness of the room is questionable. There are insects (live and dead) everywhere. See the photos below. Laying on the bed and you can see bugs crawling on the lamps. The room has weird rotten smell. The hair dryer was broken.

The food was great and the place itself was beautiful if you like an antique look. We enjoyed our stay. It was our first time ever booking a room like this and it was honestly great. - Monique (2/5): - Upon arrival I was suspicious of the conditions of the Inn. The outside could use some decluttering. The inside was old and dim inside. The person who checked me in walked me up 2 flights of stairs (something that should be in the notes of the hotel) showed me to a room that wouldn’t lock. They had to change the door handle. The rooms air conditioning didn’t work. It was in the low 90’s that afternoon. I felt bad for the woman as it seems to be a family run operation by herself her children. So I decided to stay and support local business. The next morning no coffee and the “included” breakfast was late and disastrous. I had a family emergency and had to check out early and spoke to the lady who checked me in. She assured me that I would be refunded since my stay was awful and should’ve been refunded in full at the start of my stay, and its days later. Still waiting. I have text exchanges proving the experience and will be taking it up with my credit card company.

- Laura (10/5): - House is a historical site that is in the process of being restored. A mother owns it and her kids help her. The property was in disarray when they purchased it a year ago, and you can see step by step how they are bringing it back to its original state. They have come a long way. It still needs work, but you would stay at this location because you appreciate different things as opposed to a resort. You stay here because you support a local family, and have an appreciation for history, architecture, etc. Of course it doesn’t have the most modern amenities, but that isn’t the point, or the reason you would stay here. The family is accommodating, the property is beautiful, it’s quiet, it’s simple.
- Chiara (9/5): great atmosphere; informal, flexible and kind hosts; delicious breakfast - The atmosphere of the place, a old Victorian house, is amazing - nothing like anything I have ever been to. The new owners are still settling and there might forget something here and there —however they compensate that by being extremely kind and flexible. For instance, we could have our breakfast 45 min earlier than the schedulled time throughout the week, and I could check out at 6PM the last day, since the new guests would only arrive the day after! The breakfast included pancakes, scrambled eggs, fruit, toasts and yogurt. Sometimes they forgot to replace the towels or put new toilet paper in the room —however they showed me where they kept those things, so I just engaged in a bit of self-service, which was really handy when I needed two towels a day if I planned to go swimming!

The building is an old house with lots of charm and our room had a lot of character while also being very clean and having all the comforts. The backyard is gorgeous as well as the patio where you can have breakfat. Only the last day, we found out that there were beach chairs and towels available forthe guests for free. Great to visit Oahu by car: free parking, quiet neighborhood but still close to the highway. Minor dislikes: The breakfast was really tasty but not well organized (e.g., there were no plates for the buffet, the coffee machine ran out of water, I could not find napkins). Since we enjoyed leaving early in the morning (around 7:00), we would have appreciated an earlier breakfast or something to go. But I understand that this would be an extra in almost every hotel.

- Moises (8/5): - Its a very unique stay, had no issues checking into my room. I arrived in the afternoon and just called the number on the door and someone showed me to my room. I was staying in the Dillingham and at first was a little worried about the door that leads to my what was supposed to be a private bathroom. The door was just locked from the inside, but not completely closed off you could open it ever so slightly which was worrying, but you can only do so much I guess. The room was warm, but after asking for the ac remote was comfortable. The view of the mountains from the bathroom is nice. I stayed for 10 days and was given new towels midway through the stay. The location was very convenient as I was visiting someone from the University there. I didn’t go to the breakfast while I was there the one time I attempted to go I went to the “kitchen” area and was told to leave and wait. It is an old building but my room was well kept other than some dust on the windows. There was also a hatch that led to the attic in the bathroom which I had to close and a budda? Statue behind a curtain next the the bathroom which I thought was weird, but I didn’t care. The backyard was very green and luscious it was very pretty. The pool, however, was not clean sadly, but I didn’t go to Hawaii to swim in a swimming pool, would have been nice though. There was also a cockroach that I had to kill in our trashcan. They have washers and dryers there so that was nice.

The breakfast was very limited and most mornings they were out of everything. It seems the current owners purchased the property out of foreclosure so perhaps they will get it in proper working order in time, but unfortunately our stay was not as comfortable or nice as we had hoped.

As a result, I talked to a staff shortly after and was told the booking will be cancelled. I found another hotel instead. After 5 days, I saw no refund. Then I called. A staff said I was not charged but to contact Expedia. Now, Expedia mentions they contacted staff and not able to issue refund. I am still waiting for issue to be resolved. The only alternative room was Dillingham. It seems there is 1 other review about the room. It has a 1/5 review.
- Sebastian (2/5): Expect unfriendly and overwhelmingly unprofessional staff and average facilities with pitfalls. - It’s an atmospheric old building, it’s spacious and offers some great views. We were not ever stay here again. The place is like a small B&B with a couple of rooms. After getting ourselves noticed, we were received without a single word too much by an unfriendly guy who showed us our room. The breakfast is an absolute joke, especially in respect to the price per night. With luck, you’ll get a few slices of oranges and toast that you can enjoy on a dirty table together with a single pancake or another option like a single fried egg that are prepared on order. My request for a second pancake was turned down harshly by the same guy who received us on arrival. A few more slices of toast were granted. The pictures show the full variety of food in the middle of the breakfast time that we could choose from three different days. As promoted, the place is old and in some ways quaint, but in other ways, utterly cheap, some of our curtains were racks that were falling apart, but the bathroom was done recently, and looked nice.

- Steven (8/5): This was much better for us than staying in a high-rise hotel in Honolulu. - Lisa and her sons took over ownership recently and are still working to bring it up to their standards. Lisa is determined and hardworking so we're convinced she will reach that goal. Anything we needed, Lisa or her sons provided. They were accessible whenever we needed them. The house has an interesting history as does the decor. Initially, we had a few issues with the room assigned to us but then Lisa found an excellent solution for us that we were happy with.

Called for a young male to show us up to our room. Walked in the room absolutely dirty. Food on the floor. Used soap in the bathroom. Under one table food and dust so thick. Just so dirty and dusty. Our room smelled like urine also. Somebody's leftover hair product was left in bathroom on tub ledge. This was a horrible experience. We left immediately. Called Expedia for a full refund. We hope that the new owners can turn around the decay and fix the problems. Pink stuff growing in the shower floor, you have to unscrew the lightbulb to turn it off in the bathroom, paint and water damage

The room was very clean, and we felt safe. The small community refrigerator on each floor for use by the guests was a great idea. Thank you. The air conditioning worked awesome. It was quiet during sleeping hours. We didn't hear any neighbors in the other rooms. We would love to return in the future for another visit to see how the restoration is going. When we arrived, we were given a menu for breakfast. We were told that was what was available. However, when it came time for breakfast, it was quite different . It was limited to a few things and no juice until the last day. I understood after I arrived that it was a project of a new owner and that the description on the internet was not quite accurate. We were fine with that, but they specifically gave us the menu and said this is what is for breakfast to choose from. There didn't feel like there was service. If you asked for something, you could get it if they had it, but you had to bother someone to ask. That felt uncomfortable. My suggestions would be that a little attentiveness would have gone a long way to smooth over the drawbacks. Liquid hand and body soap would be a little more sanitary (or at least feel that way) for future guests.

On the plus side it was conveniently located for a visit to relatives nearby, and the room was large with a strong (and welcome) air conditioner; in all other respects it was disappointing or worse. Although we were there for 10 days, there was no room cleaning, trash removal, etc. Wallpaper was torn in several places, so we could see through the plaster to the old wood slats. TV was tiny (maybe 14" or 15" diagonal) and too far from the bed (or any chair) to watch. Furniture was mismatched and useless. No bedside table or reading lights. When we asked for fresh linens and towels halfway through, this was left by our door 2 days later. In both cases, the bed linens were ancient and threadbare. The replacement topsheet (as threadbare as the first, was the wrong size. There was no mirror in the bathroom. No shelf for soap, etc in the shower. The "breakfast" was abysmal: white bread (toast it yourself), with butter but no jam, a made to order scrambled egg (singular) was lousy (how hard is it to scramble an egg?) and a strip of paperthin, cheap bacon. Limited parking for up to four cars, at inadequate spaces that carried a constant risk of scrapes. A once lovely, now unkempt garden, and a leaf-strewn swimming pool. Most of the time no staff was visible. Sadly, this is a once gorgeous property mostly gone to seed.

- Out_of_towner448 (10/5): Feels Like Home. - Was a little disappointed when we arrived, place didn't have the same look as before. The Inn has had a rough year but now has new owners and Lisa and her boys are working hard to get the old girl back in style. We highly recommend Manoa Valley Inn if you are looking for a quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and Waikiki. Just remember this is not a "Resort" its a Bed and Breakfast. Hope to stay again soon.

- Glenn (6/5): - The Manoa Inn is unique and homey. The historic property is used as a bed and breakfast. It is very quiet and the room we were given had a wonderful big screened window that was lovely. Internet worked well; television was limited to a short list of channels; upkeep of the room and its bath were spotty. The property could be exquisite but needs much more investment of time and money. The breakfast was at best okay with mostly what seemed to be heated up preprepared entrees. Staff members were cordial and tried to be helpful. The grounds need work.
