Guest Reviews
- Jennifer (10/5): - Gracious hosts, many amenities and the best breakfast!
- Susan (10/5): Home Away from Home - We travel to the Simsbury area just to stay at Green Acres B & B. There is a reason we returned to Green Acres B & B so many times. It is just a professionally, well-run establishment. The bedding is supreme, the home-made breakfasts with candlelight has so many offerings and the grounds as well as the antiques around the house are in wonderful taste. If those raves are not enough, it is pet-friendly too!
- Lorna (10/5): - Green Acres exceeded our expectations.
Cathy and Jim the owners were so nice
Beautifully decorated for Christmas even a Christmas tree in our room. Rooms were spotless. Cookies and candy in our room.
Breakfast..wow…absolutely delicious made by Jim. Pool in the backyard. Will definitely will
Be back.
- Karen (10/5): - Lovely old home with fantastic gardens and lovely hosts
- Jacqueline (10/5): - This b&b exceeded all expectations. Cathy and Jim are the best hosts. We had 2 sumptuous breakfasts. This b&b is a charm box and there are chickens and doggies to entertain you. We'd definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent scones beautiful grounds
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We always enjoy scary at the Green Acres. The setting is lovely; we enjoy the dogs and chickens; and, the food is delicious and more than one can eat. I would highly recommend staying here!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The house has been beautifully restored, without seeming too modern...but it does have ALL modern amenities! The owners are lovely, friendly people; the room we were in was charming, the bed very comfortable...if we had gone when it was a bit warmer we would have had our breakfast on the patio or next to the pool...and that breakfast! we were warned that it would be big, and it was! (And delicious.) Great place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We spent a wonderful evening at Green Acres B&B. The owners are warm and welcoming and we enjoyed our talks about the charming historic home and beautifully landscaped property. It felt like visiting family. We were traveling with our dogs and even our bunnies and it worked out perfect! They spoiled us with an amazing country breakfast the morning we departed. It's the only place we'll stay when in Simsbury.
- Vanthana (10/5): Green Acres is the place to be! - Jim and Cathy are the sweetest and kindest hosts. They are thoughtful and accommodating, and their hospitality is unsurpassed. Upon arrival, I was received with a warm welcome by Jim and the furry members of the family, Loretta and Rita. Then I was shown to my room, the Trade Room, where I found a gift bag had been set out for me containing water and snacks. I appreciated this very much, since I came straight from the airport and was hungry! They also provided a menu with breakfast options to select for the next morning. I chose to have breakfast in my room, which was delicious and beautifully arranged. I felt welcomed in the house like I was coming home. Rita and Loretta are absolutely adorable and will come greet you in the morning as well. Green Acres is even more beautiful and charming in person than the pictures suggest. Everything was very clean and tastefully decorated to match the historic nature of the house. Jim and Cathy go above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. The little extra considerations they take made it truly special and memorable for me. I can’t wait to come back!
- Nick (10/5): Wonderful B&B! - Took my wife and daughter up to CT for a getaway. Jim and Cathy at Green Acres are amazing. The property is very well-maintained and our suite was terrific. Breakfast was wonderful. We loved it so much we want to make it an annual tradition moving forward!
- Bradley (10/5): - Fantastic place to be for an enjoyable weekend. The breakfast alone is worth the admission.
- Shellee (10/5): A fabulous weekend away with lovely hosts! - We had a lovely weekend stay in Jim and Cathy's beautiful B&B! We enjoyed amazing breakfasts every morning with a wide range of delicious choices, many of them fresh from the garden (and chickens!). The pool was a huge hit with our two children who loved the floats (as did we) and played in the water for hours when they weren't snuggling with the dogs or collecting eggs. Jim and Cathy had an impressive story about their renovation and restoration of this 18th century farmhouse and the large, beautifully landscaped property, work that they accomplished with talent and vision. We really appreciated their thoughtful recommendations for activities each day, and they helped us learn about the area's unique features. Certainly, they made us feel very much at home. We're looking forward to our next stay!
- Luc (10/5): - Charming and well appointed B&B with very pleasant host and amazing breakfast which felt like that of a top world hotel.
- Allison (10/5): Totally Amazing! - Amazing! Such a lovely quaint home. The hosts were attentive, thoughtful, super friendly, and super flexible. I would return again. The hosts added to my son’s graduation celebration - making it a grand memory. The food, the service, the grounds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The home itself is beautiful as are the grounds. The rooms are large and the bathroom is luxurious. The breakfasts are the best I’ve ever had at a B and B. I truly cannot recommend it enough. I can’t wait to come back.
- David (10/5): A beautiful step back in time. - We had a delightful stay in this beautiful historically restored 18th century home. Jim was so gracious and fascinating. His breakfast was outstanding. We plan to return.
- Clara (10/5): - Jim and Cathy are perfect hosts..a lovely home with a apectacular breakfast!
- Grace (10/5): - This place is one of the best B&B's I have had the pleasure of staying at. The food was delicious and the service was the best!!!! The owners are very accommodating and are the most gracious and pleasant people I have ever met!! Book it you wont be disappointed!!!
- Laurie (10/5): - Great spot, loved the restored rooms. The chickens were the best, and the breakfast was amazing!
- Gary (10/5): Great B & B - Everything was perfect. The host welcomed us graciously. He sent us to a great tavern for dinner. And after a good night's sleep, we were presented with a marvelous breakfast.
- Tricia (10/5): - Our brief stay at Green Acres was wonderful. The hosts could not have been more accommodating, the room was beautiful and breakfast was delicious! We will be back!
- Stephen (10/5): Amazing B&B!! - Jim and Cathy made the stay a memorable one. The serice and food were excellent. They make you feel at home!!! I would definitely stay here again!!
- Tamara (10/5): Perfect relaxing getaway for two - This was our second stay at Green Acres. We came back specifically because on our first trip we only had 1 night there and it wasn't enough! Jim and Cathy are so wonderful and welcoming. Their breakfast creations are top-notch. They aim to please every guest and they always deliver. The giant yard, pool, chickens, hammock, everything adds to the home that is already busting with charm. We'll be back!
- Peter (10/5): Got away for a day and went to a concert - First time in area; awesome stay; innkeepers are the best and take care of EVERY detail. Asked for breakfast in room at 9:30. At PRECISELY 9:30, my breakfast was served...with a smile. Not all B&Bs feature televisions in rooms or superior Internet service...or a pool for that matter with a rooster crowing in the background. As advertised! Right on the main highway, although rooms do manage to muffle the road sound quite a bit. Say hello to the three little pooches who will warmly greet you as you arrive.
- Sarah (10/5): Lovely colonial house B and B - The hosts at this lovely B and B could not have been more welcoming. The room itself was delightful, with every comfort provided including a decanter of sherry! which certainly helped my work along. The only negative thing to say is that the road noise was quite loud but the actual room itself was perfect. The pool was welcome on a hot day after travelling and the breakfast made to order eaten on the shady patio the following morning delicious. My request for a different option to the menu was no problem. The grounds of the house are lovely with seats and a hammock for relaxing. We really wished we had booked 2 nights and made the most of this lovely place
The restaurant recommended a few minutes down the road was also excellent
- Lori (10/5): Wonderful stay with gracious hosts - We had a wonderful stay at Green Acres while visiting our daughter. Jim and Cathy were gracious hosts. The rooms were beautifully decorated with New England antiques. The bedding and towels were of the highest quality. Each room had a mini refrigerator and real cream for coffee with a Keurig coffee maker, cookies and chocolate. We had a wonderful stay and I highly recommend it.
- Taylor (10/5): Had a great stay! - Truly a wonderful setting to stay in! The house and yard are very conducive to a relaxing time and the hosts are extremely accommodating. The breakfast was also phenomenal! Would highly recommend!
- Suzanne (10/5): Green Acres B&B - I didn't want a chain hotel. This was a charming stopover place. The owners were really warm and hospitable. the room was absolute lovely. No detail overlooked.
- nancy (10/5): Nice B&B - Everything was fantastic however it is located near the road so you can hear the traffic. It did somewhat slow down at night.
- Paula (10/5): A unique experience, surpassed all my expectations - A gem located in Simsbury CT. So glad we choose to stay with Cathy and Jim at their lovely Green Acres B & B. No detail is overlooked. Our room was the Trade Room, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The next morning we were treated to an amazing breakfast, all I can say is wow!!!! Would love to come back again for another stay, the surrounding area is beautiful. We took at hike the next day in Talcott State Park, very close by. To sum it all up a 5 stars all around. Treat yourself.
- Mary (10/5): Green Acres - a perfectly named B & B - Staying in B & B's is always fun and this is a perfect example of being treated like a treasured friend. I had quiet and privacy in my suite, overlooking the 'Green Acres'. Sweeping lawn that included a wonderful lily pond next to the patio, with the landscaped pool farther away. Chickens yield fresh eggs and dogs greet you. The B & B is a perfect blend of the old and the new. My hosts, Cathy and Jim were full of stories about their previous careers and their current one. Delicious breakfasts.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great B&B - This is a great B&B. Everything was perfect. No detail was overlooked from red roses in the room, cookies, ice cream by the pool, non-stop coffee and tea in the dining room and one of the best omelets that I have ever had. Great hosts. I will stay here again if I am on my way through.
- Thomas (8/5): Rustic & Charming - The owners are very personable and accommodating. They offer many extras such as flowers, chocolates, robes, and slippers. There is also a grill and fully equipped/stocked kitchen off the pool. Breakfast varies each morning and is well prepared and served. The owners have 3 rescued dogs, so it can get a little noisy at times - not to mention the chickens and rooster. Very rustic and charming. You can even take a picture with a pitchfork for those who remember the TV show of the same name.
- Rich (10/5): - For the first time I had been to a bed and breakfast, my experience was...EXCELLENT. The room was wonderful- they had the softest beds I've slept on in years. And the breakfast in bed option came through in the clutch. Where else can you get steel-cut apple cinnamon oatmeal? The only possible complaint I had would be the stair case was awfully tight - but you can't really do anything about that in a 300 year old house. All in all, great experience and I will definitely return the next time I come to Simsbury.
- Jodi (10/5): I would highly recommend Green Acres
- The owners are friendly and accommodating.
The grounds are immaculate.
The rooms are clean and cozy.
The mattress was heavenly.
I would highly recommend Green Acres.
I felt like royalty.
- P & G (10/5): Charming and Lovely - Cathy and Jim are wonderful hosts. Every need was thought of in advance. The room was charming, the linens were luxuriously plush and the breakfast was beyond expectations. Just loved the stay there. Definitely an A+ for this B&B.
- B (10/5): Delightful combination of colonial and modern. - We enjoyed a lovely and extremely well-appointed room in a modestly-sized but very well-maintained colonial era home. Though it was near a main road, the sound and light insulation were excellent, and the full breakfast (NOT continental unless you prefer that) was extremely good. Hotel owners are gracious about special requests (early am breakfast, for example), and you won't find too many B&B's where you have a choice of locations for breakfast which includes "on the patio...with or without the company of the chickens!"
- Verified traveler (10/5): Rustic charm - This was my first stay at a b&b. The pictures didn't do the property justice. It is in a stunningly beautiful location. The home and the grounds are wonderfully maintained. We were greeted by the lovely owner at the door. He was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a room with two twin beds and it's own bathroom upstairs. The bathroom was large and very nice. The staircase leading to our room was comically small and steep. Thankfully the owner carried our super heavy luggage up for us. The stairs and the creaking floors are to be expected in an old home. The surprise was the three dogs! I am not an animal lover and have the allergies to go along. I have to say the dogs were mellow and the house was clean! One dog belonged to a fellow traveler which is nice for people traveling with pets. The breakfast was great. The owner wore a chefs coat and lit candles in the dining room. The food was made to your requests! He used real crystal glasses and pitcher! There was homemade preserves! The price, location and quality of service can't be beat.
- George & Lauren (10/5): Green Acres is the place to be! - We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the Green Acres B&B. We loved the authentic restoration of the 18th Century house. Jim and Kathy are exceptional hosts who will make you feel like you are right at home.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Like Home but Better - Staying at Green Acres is like staying with your parents if they had a very large house, with incredible furnishings, waited on you hand and foot and fed you well.
- kristin (10/5): Beautiful B and B and lovely stay! - It was such a wonderful stay, lovely area; hosts Jim and Cathy are wonderful and so accommodating! We loved our stay and celebrated our five year wedding anniversary there! They were so helpful and made excellent dining and local area recommendations! Breakfasts were amazing!!! Always get the eggs from their chickens!!! Would definitely come back!

- Cooper (10/5): Excellent Breakfast - Warm welcome. Wonderful stay. Excellent breakfast. My only complaint is the traffic in front of B&B. It is a bit noisy for a country girl.
- Chris (10/5): Comfortable B&B - Very pleasant one-night stay. Loved the grounds and the chickens.
- bill (8/5): Nice New England antique house. Bit noisy. - Hens roaming the property provide the eggs. Delicious food, classic old NE feel. Recommend this spot, although it is close to street and a bit noisy.
- Liz (10/5): Wonderful stay - Large, comfortable rooms, such a great swimming pool, perfect for the summer. The animals were adorable and friendly and the owners were so pleasant and friendly. The small details were wonderful (drinks and snacks in the rooms, slippers, coffee...). And breakfast was outstanding! Can't say enough great things about this place. Already looking for an excuse to come back!
- Queenstraveler (10/5): This place is a hidden gem! - We spent a wonderful weekend at this B&B and cannot say enough nice things. From the first moment walking in, there was a pleasant smell and warmth about the place. The rooms were big, clean and cozy, the beds very comfortable (we wanted to know what type of mattress it was so we could look into buying one!), and the hosts were very friendly. There are 2 cute dogs (but they are very tame so even if you are not a dog person, you should stay here) and a handful of chickens that run around the grounds! The pool was so nice and relaxing, and there were so many great little details -- a mini fridge in the room stocked with drinks and snacks, a Keurig coffee maker, fresh flowers, robes, slippers, pool towels and snacks... I could go on. We will be looking for an excuse to come back and visit!
- James (10/5): Friendly and Hospitable - My wife and I were in town for a half marathon. The owners were very accommodating and allowed us to defer breakfast until after the event and a shower! The room was very clean, comfortable, and well equipped with amenities. The yard and pool area were very relaxing and well-maintained.
- PJ (10/5): Very Bike Friendly - My girlfriend and I chose Green Acres due to it's proximity to the Farmington Heritage Canal Trail. We rode our bikes out from New Haven. Our host Jim gave us a secure place to put our bikes, and showed us around. The grounds are lovely, and the house is beautiful. Breakfast, made with eggs from the chickens right on site, was absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend this B&B enough.
