Guest Reviews
- Ole (8/5): Spesielt sted. :-) - Merkelig, gammelt hotell.
- Annie (8/5): - goed verblijf in Malmedy
- Jennifer (2/5): - We liked the size of the room and where the hotel was located in the town. It was easy to access the F1 shuttle and walkable for many good cafes and restaurants. There was also a very cute dog that may have lived with the owner that was a big highlight. We did not like the condition of the hotel or room. The pictures on the website were obviously of a better time for the hotel. The bed was uncomfortable, the two very old pillows were almost not pillows, the bed linens and towels were very worn. The shower had great water pressure but the shower enclosure was awkward and ineffective. The bathroom floor was very slippery with so much water getting on it. There was no tv, the wifi was not good and the parking is just general street parking ( which we had no problem finding parking). Overall, I would personally not stay at this hotel again. It is way too run down and old. However the place would be cute if some love and care was put back into it.
- Tom (2/5): - Missed check in Day one (my fault) but then on day two when we went during the times it indicated it was still shut and none of the phones numbers that were on the website or doors worked. Have been charged for rooms I was unable to even get to into the building for.
- James (2/5): - this should be zero stars.Expedia should NOT list this dump. No housekeeping. no TV. no one at reception at any time after our arrival. spotty wi-fi. Overflowing garbage can (one, broken) and stained towels. wet towels on the floor for three days. Broken toilet seat and lid. moldy grout in shower.
- Mark (2/5): Tired and massively overpriced for what it is. - I'm sorry but I have to be honest - this hotel is overpriced by about 80%. It's very old inside, very basic, not especially comfortable and has no facilities beyond a bed and a shower. The bar area has been turned into some strange clothes shop/laundry and is completely cluttered. Manageable for one night but I really can't recommend it. Did I mention price? We stayed in some lovely hotels in France and Belgium during a week's tour and this was the most expensive and many many levels below the others. Oh, and it's difficult to find, because the outside looks NOTHING like the advertised picture (which was what drew us in to book).
- Jens (10/5): - Great place in Malmedy. It’s the fourth time we are there
- Ryan (4/5): - The rooms are not only showing their age, but a lack of general maintenance. On day of checkout, the property wanted to charge us 100 euros to store our bags until the end of the day. The restaurant around the corner was kind enough to store them for free.
- Benjamin (2/5): - Generally pretty terrible. Wildly overpriced. Musty rooms, no fridge, plug in desk fan for ventilation, only two of the outlets worked, whole place just felt sad. Seemed like a bit of a running joke to the locals I talked to.
- Rodrigo (2/5): - Muy mal estado y pésimo servicio además de
Sucio
- Glenn (2/5): - NO Staff, never saw anyone at reception or elsewhere for the duration of our stay. Restaurant/bar closed. Was suppose to be half board. Room clean but v hot and odd odour. TV removed from wall. All rather unpleasant.
Do NOT recomend
- dw (10/5): - The hotel was very clean and presentable
Very good value for money
Highly recommend
- susan (2/5): Avoid at all cost - This hotel is very untidy, dirty and not comfortable
- Carl (2/5): - It was awful, the photos online did not show this Hotel as it was. The towels in the room were dirty and smelt very musty. We did ask for more, but this never happened. Shower leaked all over the floor the blinds in the bathroom didn't close so people could see in when you are in the shower. No TV in the room ( but a wall bracket where it was) No kettle, and the hairdryer didn't work. Says there's a carpark but its on street parking so no carpark.
To be honest Hotels.com should remove this from their list.
- Anna (8/5): - Heel vriendelijke ontvangst, nette kamers
- JULIO (4/5): - Towels smell real bad... nothing fancy. during belgian grand prix attractive price. Not to come back in normal season.
- Rob (6/5): - Leuk eenvoudig "buurt" hotel, heel gastvrij. Kamers goed, tevens goed kunnen dineren
- Verified traveler (4/5): Kun overnatning. Ingen mulighed for morgenmad.
- Philip (4/5): - I wouldnt advise using this hotel. Room was tiny and with loose wiring and 1970s decor. No parking although advised but street parking was no problem. Washing was drying in public areas and the whole place permanently smelt of stale cooking. Didnt risk the food. Room was clean but seriously overpriced for what is really a hostel. Malmedy lovely and highly recommended. Just stay somewhere else!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Fix the curtains, the door and the water connection please and it will be a good stay.
- Martin (8/5): Cykelhold på tur - Super hyggeligt hotel. Kromutter er sku mega sjov. Vi var 11 mande dernede
- Kenneth (2/5): This hotel is shut - We arrived for a three day stay and the hotel was shut. Apparently the owner was resident but would not open the premises. We had to arrange alternative accommodation
- Simon (2/5): - The hotel was closed upon arrival and did not re-open. The manager, who various shop keepers told us, had a severe alcohol problem was seen by one of our party who told her that we had reservations and she slammed the door in his face telling him to go away. Late in the afternoon, our party of 9 had to find alternative accommodation in the town which was not easy. This appalling experience needs to be addressed and you should not be offering the hotel for accommodation on your website.
- Adrian (2/5): - There was no stay. The landlady was drunk and refused to check us in. According to people in the town she has a serious problem with alcohol. The hotel should be taken off your site.
- Robin (2/5): Unacceptable - Hotel closed despite our confirmed booking and owner refused to open after we had waited outside for 2 hours.
Had to find scarce and more expensive accommodation at short notice.
Will not use Hotels.com to book next time.
- Kenneth (6/5): This hotel was still shut on 15th May 2023 shut - This hotel is shut so no comments are relevant
We arrived for a three night stay and waited three hours but no-one responded to any phone calls/texts
We had to make alternative arrangements on a very busy weekend due to the Spa Classic motor racing
We all had to pay a premium and our party had to stay in four different hotels
- steffen ulrik (2/5): Do not stay here - Do not stay here. Weird hotel in centre of Malmedy close to Spa race track - but hotel in lack of maintenance (eg mildew at ceiling in bath room, electrical socket hanging from wall by its wires) towels seem neglected. Check in what used to be bar/restaurant but now some sort of fashion shop
- Philipp (6/5): - Süßes Hotel , Sauberes Zimmer und Freundliches Personal
Heizung leider ohne Funktion dadurch sehr unangenehmes Klima / Nacht
- Sylvia (10/5): - Einfache Ausstattung, aber praktikabel!
- Mario (2/5): Absolute nightmare. - This was the worst hotel i have ever been too. I had to clean the bathroom myself can you imagine??? The owner doesn’t seem to be a bad guy but he lost it really bad!! That’s a nice hotel but it needs a lot of love right now!!!
- Lawrence (2/5): DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!! - The worst hotel in the world!!! I did not stay here, no one was there during check in time. I rang more than 12 times, i have taken pictures of the abandoned looking place.
- Raymond (2/5): - After finally finding a way into the hotel we confirmed our booking then we were totally ignored. There was a mess on the floor which the male person took photos of. They seemed to have an argument about our booking. The male totally ignored us and the woman went into the cafe and started doing something there. After 20mins or more of being totally ignored we walked out to find another hotel. The behaviour of the owners was totally odd. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone and think that you should take the hotel off your list. If we paid anything to stay here it should be refunded.
Ontbijt was heel slecht.
- Brigitte (8/5): - La ville
- Terence (10/5): - Food was very good.
No evening food on Monday.
- Simon (2/5): Avoid this place - not even worth 1 star - Booked this over F1 GP weekend (Fri-Mon) as nothing else was available. Expected to pay more than normal, so that's fine. Needed to book an extra day (Thursday), and expected to pay the same (over-inflated) rate as for the other 3 days. Was a bit surprised when they added an extra 60 euros to the daily room price.
When I queried this, the "owner", an odd woman, just repeated "it's the F1 price, take it or leave it".
I should have left it, but as I said, there was nowhere else at short notice.
The room was on the top floor (attic?) and was cramped with a very uncomfortable, rickety bed.
The bathroom was dirty (we bought cleaning products and cleaned it), with towels that used to be white but are now grey (we bought towels from the Aldi down the road).
There was no kettle / tea / coffee or bottled water on day one. Water appeared day 2.
Parking is free but is nothing to do with the hotel, despite what the owner says, so you may find no space available on your arrival. The owner may tell you to find a space up the road, which is helpful advice.
The hotel is just across the road from the hospital, so that's handy, and is conveniently located for the town centre, which is lovely.
Barsten in muur. Schimmel in badkamer. Tapijt is vuil. Heel kleine kamer voor en prijs. Heel warme kleine zolderkamer, zodat we amper konden slapen.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Het hotel is basic. De kamer was proper, groot maar verouderd.
zeer goed gelegen.
- MARK (8/5): Malmedy - Loved the workers. Old hotel, what else can one say!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Prima kamer en vriendelijke dame. Goed bereikbaar.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - A roomsize of max. 6sqm, mini-TV with 3 channels (blurred) only on request, "bed" was simply a wooden construction wih a plank as support for a t7cm high "mattress", 60 cm wide... Shower from the sixthies, more or less clean with no amenities. Pipes ran along the room, somebody flushing/showering a florr above woke me every time... Breakfast in the bar, just cheese and ham plus baguette, food left open, not covered or chilled since 7 a.m. (temperature approx. 25 degrees..) AND
Yes, it was the weekend of the F1 race, but for a rate of €180.- per night ("reduced" rate because the room is somewhat "small"...) this is outrageous!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - was there for 2 nights whilst attending an event, did not use any of the facilitiesso it would not be fair to comment on them.
- Stephen (4/5): Never again. - We arrived, after a very long and disrupted drive from the UK at 7.30pm to find the hotel locked up and nobody there to receive us - reception should have been manned between 10am - 8pm. Took half an hour for somebody to arrive and check us in..... Then insisted we pay for our entire stay before we even got our room keys - this is not the normal way of doing hotel business..
Restaurant - closed..
Bar - closed..
Café - closed
Couldn't get WIFI in our room.
Room was adequate but daily housekeeping definitely suspect and random.
The bar/restaurant looked more like a clothing store than a nice place to eat and drink (which we didn't do!)
This hotel is well sighted and could attract more custom if the owners ran it as a hotel and not a base for the many other enterprises they seem to be into..
We will definitely be going back to Malmedy - but not staying here...……………..
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Das Hotel liegt recht zentral.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Gute zentrale Lage; freundliches Personal.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ze deden alles samen .
- Kenneth (8/5): Quirky hotel - Classic car meeting - stayed three nights
Breakfast limited but other available locally
- Tracy (8/5): - A functional and comfortable hotel close to the circuit where I travelled to watch the motor racing. Nice local area. Everything needed for a solo stay
- carine (4/5): Geen aanrader - De ontvangst was koel .
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room in but not clean..old contact lenses left on bed side table from previous guest.
- Mike (8/5): A great location for town and the circuit at Spa - Very friendly and accomodating staff, very clean and comfortable rooms.
- Trev (8/5): Short Stay - Checked in ok in morning, left luggage in room. Returned late at night, left before breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Maybe the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Filthy, mouldy, dusty just yuck. Didn't want to touch anywhere
- chris (4/5): Basic faded 2 star hotel in good location - Good situation near centre with parking close, with lift and own key for late access. However room was basic and faded, no coffee making facilities (€1.50 for vending machine on ground floor), breakfast not included. Just 2 hangers in wardrobe. Bathroom functional with good hot water but tired (loo lid was off). Servicing of room erratic and bed certainly not the best experienced. Don't know if other rooms being improved.
- Simon (6/5): Convenient for the nice town centre - Querky hotel close to the centre of Malmedy. On street parking but generally easy to find close to the hotel. Proprietors are welcoming and easy going. Basic breakfast but satisfactory,
- Verified traveler (6/5): Spend the extra money and stay elsewhere - This place was truly strange. More like a bed and breakfast than a hotel, the owners weren't all that friendly and everything seemed like a cash grab... And for the money, it really is pretty unpleasant. I won't bother echoing the details about the ratty condition in other reviews suffice to say look elsewhere when staying for Spa.
- Gerard (8/5): Perfect Hotel for F1 weekend. - After reading previous reviews for this hotel its safe to say we were a little apprehensive as we arrived. Being totally honest we were pleasantly suprised upon arrival.
Check in was swift and easy and very pleasant. The room was basic but spotless and fresh. Bathroom was a nice size and the shower was hot and powerful.
We stayed for 4 nights and never once had a reason to complain or even grumble at anything.
As we were in town for the F1 we were out early every morning so never sampled any food.
If your looking for somewhere to get your head down at night this is perfect, and being in the centre of town restaurants and bars are within minutes walking distance.
Will be booking again if we decide to return for next years F1.
- Verified traveler (2/5): should be called hotels.not .com - Didnt arrive at the hotel till late 10.00pm due to being stuck in the car parking at spa, almost 5 hours so was looking forward to a nice shower and a good sleep for the trip home the next day but what did we get absolutely nothing even though I booked the hotel 6 months in advance and also received an email in the week to say the room was reserved don't know whos fault it was but I wont be using this hotel or hotels.com again
- JB (4/5): really basic - Beds are very uncomfortable, not even a kettle. The shower was good tho. We only chose this place because it was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't stay here - The service was awful - we arrived in good time for check in and for the 3 nights and 4 days we were there did not see the hotel owner again. The restaurant was never open and because there was no fridge or kettle in the room we spent a lot more money than we would have hoped. The room rates on the back of the door were exactly half what we paid, even though we booked the hotel last Dec.The bed was very uncomfortable and the hair dryer did not work nor did the small lights in the bathroom. Lovely village very pretty and very handy for the grand prix but we would have gone somewhere else if we could!!
- Paul (8/5): Friendly - Friendly staff basic room's I who'd use hotel again clean and tide
- Charlotte (8/5): Friendly well located hotel - Friendly well located hotel. My room was comfortable with a great bathroom with shower and bath great valye
- Johann (6/5): Quirky hotel but great location for F1 Spa - Upon arrival they would not give me a room until I paid up. Strangely non of my credit or debit cards would work; even though they worked everywhere else on this trip. They forced me to go to a local bank to get money; required me to get a cash advance with interest :-(
The restaurant was never (ok; maybe once in 4 days) open for business.
The door to the hotel was locked early in the evening, so beware if you arrive late for check-in. With a key I could open the door.
Room was okay although bathroom could use a good cleaning.
Having said all this; I was here for the Formula 1 race at Spa. This location was very convenient to the race course (<15 minute drive) and there were a number of restaurants in Malmedy within walking distance for breakfast and dinner. So I would likely put up with the quirkiness given the location and price during this high demand weekend.
- Jason (6/5): Cheap but bizarre place - Was ok took a while to find owners of hotel. Got checked no problems. PAYMENT UP FRONT and the room key opened EVERY ROOM DOOR.
Crazy but Malmedy is a beautiful town and the people are so friendly. Hotel was cheap but only thing available Grand Prix prices went up x4.
- Nick (4/5): Great location but shame about hotel. - The hotel was run down and the staff was never around but for 4 guys crashing out over the Formula 1 weekend it was fine.
I didn't expect much more for the price we paid and the location to the track was perfect with plenty of parking.
The village/town is stunning and definitely worth staying in this place but I would look for another hotel first.
- Verified traveler (2/5): DO NOT GO THERE - NO GOOD AT ALL - NO RESPECT FOR THE CLIENT
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Ben (2/5): Hotel was abandoned when we arrived to check-in - When we arrived to check into the hotel on Saturday evening after a long day at Spa, we found the hotel empty, lights off, no signs of life at all. We waited outside for around 30 minutes but nobody came and we called Expedia to explain the situation. After 20 minutes on hold to Expedia I finally got through to the call centre who were unable to provide any help at all or find a hotel locally to rebook with. Whilst on the phone to them, I rebooked another place through the Expedia site on my phone. Unbelievably bad experience with the Hotel and the subsequent support provided by Expedia themselves.
It is clear from the reviews that I am not the first person this has happened to here, so do not book this hotel and risk it being closed without explanation.
- David (2/5): What a dump - Room not cleaned, towel (yes only one) not changed nor bed made during 3 day stay. Exposed light switches - even in the bathroom. No shower door - great fun with exposed electrics!!!!! Bunk beds..... I could go on.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Small clean hotel with friendly owners in a nice t - 4 night stay with friends during Spa Classic. Hotel is small, rooms vary in size but all were clean and comfortable. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Malmedy is a nice town but not quite as nice as Stavelot.
It's very handy if you're going to an event at Spa Francorchamps.
