Guest Reviews
- Tania (10/5): - Great hostel! Enjoyed the vibrant vibe
- Renee (10/5): - Such a lovely place! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. It’s in a perfect location, just a short walk from the San Pedro Center. They even let me stay a bit later after checkout so I could rest before my flight—so kind and thoughtful. Highly recommend!
- Sarah (10/5): - Great hostel with options of a room for oneself. Area is great and walkable. Staff friendly. All good!
- Kathryn (10/5): - An easy, no frills hostel that made the first part of our time in Cusco enjoyable. The hosts were very nice and while the room was basic, the private room with bathroom was really all we needed.
- john (10/5): - I travel to Cusco often. I’ve stayed at this place the last 3 times I visited Cusco. Great service, nice place, great value for what you get. Highly recommended.
- Benjamin (8/5): - Tres bien
- Emily (10/5): - It was awesome! Bruno at the front desk was amazing! He went out of his way to accommodate our needs while we were staying there especially with early mornings!
- Rajesh (10/5): - It is quite unbelievable that you get such value these days, especially at a tourist hotspot. Hot showers, WiFi, free breakfast, comfortable beds, booking airport transfers etc. They even hold part of your luggage for you if you are traveling elsewhere for a short visit and don't want to lug everything! All for $10/night. If you want full privacy, this is not for you. Else this is a no brainer!
Unica pecca.
Un vero peccato!!
- Chien-Hsiang (8/5): Fair for the price you pay - The shower is not stable, a few minutes of hot water then cold water. Location is close to supermarket and staffs are very friendly.
- Leticia (6/5): Fraco - No check in, o quarto estava completamente empoeirado. No segundo dia melhoraram a limpeza.
- Ana (10/5): - Todo excelente
- Verified traveler (10/5): Super Comfortable - Stayed in 4 bed room. Such a comfortable and clean bed, powerpoints and light next to each bed, locker for each person. Rooms were cleaned each day and shared showers and toilets were nice and well kept. Breakfast was simple bread and jam. Took a while but very easy to put laundry in at reception - S./5 per kg good price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Easy and close to everything - The stay was great. They have reasonable and trustworthy airport transfers. Check in was easy. There is always someone at the reception. They even let you store your belongings if you decide to trek to Machu Picchu like I did. I would stay there again!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place is essential but has everything needed. This is an ideal solution for people looking for a convenient, friendly place where to spend the night while being around for the rest of the day.
- Gachy (8/5): - They are very helpful and nice,
I will change the sofas in the lobby, other than that it is great for the price and security
- Marcia Regina (10/5): Muito bom!! - O atendimento é ótima. Me orientaram no que necessitei. Foram super prestativos. O local fica próximo a praça principal. Cama boa, local limpo.
- Jane (8/5): Overall a great stay! - Mama Simona Cusco runs a tight ship! I need to commend every single front desk staff member for their professionalism, caring, and skill in helping to make our stay was a great experience! When I got sick on my second day in Cusco the front desk helped call a taxi and sent me to an excellent local medical clinic that treated me for altitude sickness and a mild case of salmonella (watch what you eat at the San Pedro Mercado!) I felt better by the end of the day and was released to go eat guinea pig later that night! Another front desk person helped my retired aunt and uncle carry some luggage upstairs. We didn't get a chance to tip her but wanted to thank her here for going above and beyond the responsibilities of a front desk clerk!
Although cleanliness could be improved in the rooms (I found some hairballs on the floor) and wifi service needs to be improved (limited to the common areas and sometimes did't work), none of this diminished our stay and i would recommend this place to anyone. Note that Mama Simona is not a party hostel and attracts an older crowd than your average hostel, which was perfect for us. The free coca tea was a nice amenity. Highly recommended!
- Annie (10/5): Coquet!
- Michael (10/5): Great location Lovely Hostel - this is the ideal hostel for groups or people traveling in Peru. It is centrally located clean safe and the staff is super helpful. A short walk to the San Pedro Market and the Plaza de Armas.
- Michael (10/5): Great hostel at the foot of Machu Picchu - Great location, great staff and a very affordable place to crash before or after a visit to MaPi. Breakfast included a short walk to the train and bus to head up to the site. Great for backpackers, groups etc.
- Carole (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Good price
- Nayara (10/5): Super indico! - Adorei!
- Ana Carla (8/5): - Hostel super bacana, quarto limpo e grande ! Cama confortável e chuveiro ótimo !!
- Jo (8/5): Nice hostel in Cusco - Me and my friend stayed in a private room here when we arrived a Cusco. The staff were helpful and organised airport transfer for us. It’s a nice, clean hostel but can get a bit cold. There was a heater in the main sitting room and the staff were lovely and kept giving us blankets. Breakfast was very simple but tasty and the coffee was really good. Good place to stay!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very clean rooms and made for a comfortable stay. The bathrooms were clean, but shower was cold. Includes continental breakfast, but pay a small price for the hot menu. Nice staff, can use the printer too (I used it to print my plane ticket for 50c). Free storage locker use for after checkout, can also lock stuff up in your room during your stay. Nice walk from the market and the main squares.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice comfortable atmosphere. - Very comfortable and homey feeling. Food was good. Staff was very pleasant, nice and helpful. The only thing that was disappointing was no hot water for a shower.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and Comfy Hostal - This is nice and Comfy hostal to Stay in Cusco. Walking Distance from San Francisco Square and other key tourist place. Staffs are really helpfull and informative
- Teresa (10/5): Chose Hostel MAma Simona - This is super location in Cusco. Close to main attractions, shopping and just a stroll through the old streets. The stuff is very friendly and speak English. Continuous supply of cocoa leave tea refreshes you after long strolls.
- Julia (10/5): Best Hostel in Cusco - Mama Simona was a great choice for my stay in Cusco. The staff was friendly and helpful, the hostel was clean and inviting, and the beds were comfortable and warm. Quiet hours at 10pm were enforced which was nice, since nothing is worse than staying somewhere where you can't get any rest. Small breakfast was included with my stay, and endless supplies of coca tea, which helped with the altitude. The rooms have lockers for storing important docs, bring your own lock, and the hostal sells water on site. It's also close to the town center and in a safe neighborhood.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Booked a bed in 4-person shared dormitory with private bathroom for 3 nights (6-9 Sep 2016) for about USD15 per night.
Heading to Plaza de Armas was easy downhill 10 mins walk, walking back up took much longer for me, I was out of breath very easily from the altitude. 2 cheap laundry places very close to the hostel, very handy.
Bed was ok comfortable, shower was very basic, the hot water was a little unstable but not a big problem. There was a cabinet where I could lock my handcarry suitcase and socket for charging for each bed. My room was right by the common area which would be a problem to those sensitive to noise as you can hear the chatting and people walking down the stairs.
Basic breakfast included, can add eggs for extra charge. Chocolate bars, water, hot drinks and some toiletries available for purchase at reasonable prices. Also towels available for rent from the reception.
Wifi was unstable, especially in the evening when most people are using it. I managed to submit a Bolivia visa application online in the morning without problem.
All the staff was friendly but one day staff (I forgot his name, a young lad whom studied in America and speak fluent English), he was super helpful.
Overall, good stay and good value.
- Verified traveler (4/5): It's ok... - The staff were really polite, nice and helpful but our room (1) was very dark, dirty and smelly.
- Sasha (6/5): - Our room was not the best. The "windows" only showed a storage room not the outside. It was noisy, no outside ventilation....such a big difference from their sister hostel in Ollantaytambo. The conditions might be more common for a hostel in Cusco, but I would not stay here again.
- Claire (10/5): Comfortable beds, friendly staff - Very comfortable beds, nice service, very clean. Quick walk to main area of Cusco, although it is up a hill so the walk back can be a little tough if still adjusting to altitude. Free breakfast includes croissant/roll of some sort and coffee. Bottled water and other drinks for sale which is nice and convenient.
- Olivia (8/5): Lovely hostel in good location - Stayed in a private room which was clean and fairy spacious. Location was good - short walk into the main square, restaurants and to the San Pedro market.
- Matt (8/5): Nice staff, helpful good location - Good location, nice staff, i usually stay at small hotels with seperate bathroom and this time i had a seperate room but used a shared bathroom. I found the shower stalls a little small not really a section for you to change since your walking down the hall and the toliet rooms were also small and one of the doors would not shut
- Eduardo (8/5): Convenient but avoid the double room - Well located, very helpful service. Make sure you get a room facing the indoor court so you can access the wifi. I do not recommend the double room, it needs renovation and is near the sharted showers and garbage dump so very noisy.
- Shan (8/5): nice, cheap hostel in good location - I stayed here for 2 days before heading to Mach Picchu. The taxi company they work with for shuttling to and from the airport and train station is wonderful and reliable. The girls at the front desk were very helpful when explaining the area. We were able to store our luggage there overnight while we went to Machu Picchu, even though we weren't staying at the hostel when we returned. The showers were a little finicky (took a while to warm up and then it got a little too hot and it was hard to find the happy medium). The common area was very cold but the rooms were a little warmer. However, the blankets provided all the warmth you could need. The hostel is in a good location, everything is within walking distance. Check in and out was quick and efficient. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I would recommend it to another. The second hostel we stayed in in Cusco was nicer, but also significantly more expensive. This one accurately reflects its price, so don't expect a 4 or 5 star hotel when considering what you are paying.
The biggest downfall was the inconsistent wifi. It only works in the common areas and even then it can be spotty.
- Michael (10/5): great value in the center of cusco - group stay last night in cusco... clean hostel great price friendly staff and right in the center of the city. very highly recommend.
- Not Provided (8/5): Very good backpackers - Very comfortable. I stayed in 2 different rooms on two different dates. The beds were comfortable and the showers were hot. Free luggage storage which is an added bonus. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Wifi was available in both rooms I stayed in even though I was informed it only worked in the common area.
- Leah (10/5): A Happy Place to Be In Cuzco! - We had just stayed at Mama Simona Ollantaytambo before coming to this one in Cuzco, and we were not disappointed with either! Comfortable bed (we loved the feather duvet, but be warned, allergy-sufferers) and happy, artsy decor everywhere...exactly as a hostel should be. Board games to play, books to read, snacks to buy - made it easy to settle in. Staff was great (we were thankful for English) and the location was just a short walk to anywhere you needed to go in the city.
Plus, the shower was so nice and warm! With high pressure!! This was a real treat after some of the other places we stayed in during our trip. We loved this place and wish we could have stayed more than one night.
- Yaima (8/5): Mama Simona, good for the price - Spent 3 nights in a row and after the Inca trail 2 more nights and it was good, nothing to be exited about but good for the price and clean. The wi-fi doesn't go into the rooms
- Maria jose (10/5): GREAT - Great! perfect for solo OR family, the place is very clean and the people are friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): AMAZING - Great! perfect for solo OR family, the place is very clean and the people are friendly
- Koish (6/5): Simple Hostel, close to plaza de armas - 2 night stay in double bed comfortable bedroom with private bathroom, beds and linen were clean and comfortable. Bathroom is ok. Wifi only accessible in main social areas
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent, but noisy - We found Mama Simona to be decent for the price. Our biggest complaint was that it was noisy, especially when we stayed on the first floor with a window to the lobby. Our second night, we stayed in a double on the second floor, which was much more comfortable. It was cute, fine breakfast (bread, coffee, and juice, but you can also order eggs and sandwiches for reasonable prices), good location just a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Good service... they got our reservation wrong and couldn't change our room because the hotel was full, but made sure we only paid the low rate that we had reserved.
