Guest Reviews
- J181FYnatashap (6/5): Fine but needs improvement. - Hotel was okay. They initially put us in a room with no window so asked to move. Breakfast was pretty poor. Decor needs updating.
- 370luzmilac (10/5): Excelente trato con todo el personal y buen servicio , delicioso café y saludable desayuno típico Peruano con todo fresc - Clean rooms every day and replace the toilet papers, excellent people I promise to come back soon with the family and friends
- Jonatan Jose (10/5): excelente - La relación calidad precio hizo que nos sintiéramos cómodos y a pesar del frío de cusco la pasemos bien. Que me instalaran en el ultimo piso
- bryand312 (2/5): Cold and Noisy - We stayed at Hotel Mabey as part of an Exoticca package. Unfortunately, this hotel was well below our expectations. The showers were lukewarm at best, so we had to minimize our time in the water so that we don't freeze. The breakfast was OK in that they had the basics, but they don't refresh it very often. The coffee would have grounds in every cup and was quite bitter, and the eggs were sometimes cold. One of the cereals had become glued into a solid lump due to the humidity. The room itself had little sound proofing so you could hear everyone from different directions, this is compounded by the fact that the bathrooms all vent to a central shaft, so you can easily hear the bathrooms on different levels. Overall I would not recommend staying here.
- Amanda (4/5): Would not stay here again - The location close to the train station Rooms and bathroom were dirty, no hot water, very noisy.
- debbie4819 (6/5): Pleasant Staff - We are 2 Canadian female friends who stayed 4 nights - booked through Exoticca. Our 1st day we were dropped off at hotel by Exoticca Rep late afternoon and we checked in. The hotel is located in an "industrial" area. ie: area where cars are fixed, windshields replaced etc.... The hotel offers a very poor breakfast (our opinion! )... toast and strawberry jam was what we had. There was dry cereal, "kinda" scrambled eggs, pieces of sausage/hotdogs (?), ham/cheese slices and thick coffee.
The Hotel has no restaurant. Reception suggested a very nice restaurant 5 blocks away that we walked to, La Quinta. This restaurant area was very nice and a few more blocks was the square and other restaurants. Also the Textile factory and market was close to restaurant.
Overview of hotel: As 2 females, we never felt unsafe but felt a solo female might. There were no restaurants close by...10 to 15 minute walk. Breakfast was unsatisfactory. Room 5/10. Heaters in room. Hot water. The hotel room was "comfortable" and made up daily. Elevator. Staff helpful. Very old hotel but most areas were maintained. Reception area dark and chilly....
- G9339VWnickb (6/5): Average and not in a great area - Hotel is located about a 20 minute walk through some unpleasant streets from the main centre, but not in a great location, as it’s on a main road and surrounded by small hut style car repair shops. So throughout the night, you will get trucks and as it sits close to a junction, cars and motor bikes that constantly sound there horn. There are also a number of dogs, that I assume guard the shops, so they bark throughout the night. Our room was located on the 5th floor at the front, so we had the worst of it.
The rooms were large and there were 2 double beds, but the shower could only accommodate 1 and a half showers, so whoever goes second, gets a running hot and cold shower. Opening the window can be a little unpleasant, as it’s smells and it’s dusty from the road.
The breakfast room on the 6th floor, has a small toaster machine and there’s some fresh fruit available. There was no cold milk, so the cereal on offer was avoided. Apart from that, there was little else.
As we were travelling early to Machu Picchu, we did request a 4am alarm call from reception, but sadly this wasn’t forthcoming. Fortunately we had set alarms ourselves as a back up. When we ventured downstairs to exit, the front door was locked and we couldn’t get out ! After some frantic shouting, we managed to get someone’s attention and they showed us a side exit.
Not a great stay and I would recommend travellers find accommodation closer to the square
- CummingDubai (6/5): Hotel pretty tired and dated - Hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the city centre in a fairly uninspiring area. Room was adequate. Bed had 4 heavy old blankets on it. Shower was not great with the temperature varying. Breakfast was pretty limited. Cereals laid out but no cold milk to put on them. Stayed as ,part of a tour group and not sure of hotel prices in Cusco but would avoid this hotel if visiting Cusco unless it was significantly cheaper than other hotels.
- B7333YUjanetl (4/5): Poorly maintained hotel in sketchy area - Room smelled very bad and bathroom was not very clean. No fresh air ventilation as the only window opened into an enclosed fire escape. Poorly maintained (holes in walls, leaking water). Located amongst car parts and repair shops. Noisy. Some rooms were better than mine but it’s the luck of the draw whether you get a decent room or a crappy one. The restaurant was only open for breakfast and the bar was closed. Nearest eating places were several blocks away. Completely different from the Mabey hotel in Uribamba which was very pleasant. I stayed with an Exoticca tour group and several others in the group had similar experiences.
- GrandTour02162830617 (4/5): Hotel assigned to us by Exocttia - Hotel is located in the commercial industrial section of Cusco, a few blocks from the Main Street. We were assigned a room on the 7th floor, the elevator only go’s to the 6th floor. Had to sleep our bags up the stairs the rest of the way at 11,000 ft. Elevation. Shower tub did Not have a shower curtain! Rooms have no ventilation only space heaters, and opening a window only allows in sewage smell. Included breakfast was marginal at best. This was a hotel assigned by Exocctia on our MachuPicchu trip! I’m sure backpackers and totally budget mined travelers would find this place acceptable. But buying a complete tour with Exoccita. This was unacceptable!
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hugh (7/5): Good -
- C1821MThannahs (6/5): Clean but noisy - Clean hotel, but in a kind of sketchy looking area that I wouldn’t consider the “city center”. It was about a 15 minute walk to the main square and things of significance. The rooms were a bit small and the hotel was very loud- you could hear a lot of noise from other rooms.
- kathrync931 (8/5): Small and Comfortable - Stayed 3 nights before our trip to Machu Picchu and 1 night on our way to Titicaca.Small quiet hotel further from the Plaza but still walkable.
About 15 minutes walk . Staffs were hospitable and breakfast was adequate.
They also prepare breakfast on the go when we have to go for early outings.
- Lance (5/5): Passable -
- Boris (10/5): Exceptional - Alexander at the desk is very polite and helpful
hot water just works! and the stream is good!
clean room, 4 towels, nice interior in the hotel, good location
- Garcia (10/5): Great deal! - The location was great as it was a fast trip to the airport. I didn't catch the gentlemans name at the front desk, but he was extremely helpful. The incredibly small elevator. Other than that, everything else was great
- Fiona (9/5): Good value and good location Easy walk to Cusco centre - Convenient very… for the Wanchu bus Internet a bit iffy as was the credit card facility but the staff were lovely.
- Asira (10/5): Exceptional -
- Asira (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rohini (3/5): Poor - The bed was confortable. The showers were not warm enough. Although it was mentioned on the website of the hotel that laundry was available, when we arrived during the evening, the staff told us no laundry service is available. The next morning, another staff member told us the opposite. The location is in a grim neighbourhood and I would not recommend staying in this area unless you need to look for a stay in between 2 trains.
- Danielle (6/5): Pleasant -
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- T5950WIpeterm (8/5): Almost quiet hotel. - We had reservation and the bus dropped us off. Once inside the gate it was very serene and quiet. A very well laid out hotel complex with the pool and hot tub at the back of the hotel. Once they sorted out the rooms then we went to have a look. The room was nicely laid out. The bathroom was very clean. Then dinner was available after 7pm so we went to find the restaurant. Upstairs in the restaurant it was very nice. They had Inca musicians playing and it was very nice. They dinner came from a menu but it seemed like they were cooking 2 meals at a time. It took almost an hour to get the food. We think maybe a new cook or something but it was like that every meal. All in all it was very nice though.
- S5467EAsue (10/5): Mabry cusco - We stayed at the Mabry for several nights
The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The showers were hot and we had a heater in our room for the cold nights. The staff was professional and helpful. The desk clerk was very welcoming and spoke English. We enjoyed the full breakfast- lots of choices and great coffew
We were able to leave our excess baggage at the hotel when we went to Machu Pichu and were given our same room when we returned. Our grandson had altitude sickness and we were allowed to extend our check out time to give him a chance to rest
- RandyJ561 (8/5): Great hotel with great food! - Rooms were very nice. Heat was a little off, as the electric heater didn’t work too well. Dinner was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Took what was a decently bad day and made it much better. Would return in a heartbeat!
- 81rebeccat (4/5): Just not very nice at all - It all started well with a cheerful welcome in reception but then went downhill pretty quickly. The room we were given was a single size with a double bed shoe horned in, and whilst it had a window this looked out onto some sort of service shaft so there was no natural light at all and it was freezing cold. I went down to reception and requested a change of room and the man on duty was very unfriendly. However when he saw that I was determined he reluctantly offered another room, but he practically threw the key at me! The second room was bigger and had a window looking over the front elevation but it was still very 'tired'. I think it's time they considered some updating as it looks like nothing has been changed for many years. On the day we checked out we had to sit in the reception area for some time as we were waiting for transport to the airport and it was so cold! The same man who changed the room for us was on duty and again he was surly and unfriendly and I noticed that as we were waiting for our lift he spent the whole time watching a film/tv programme on the computer. I am pretty sure that there are far better hotels in Cusco and would definitely not recommend this place.
- UrsulaHans (8/5): Very Personal - Thank you to the observant, friendly staff of this small family style hotel. The rooms and bath rooms are totally adequate, the light switches could be a littel more "accessible" - I had to stand up to get to the switch for my readinf light..
Very good breakfast, great view from the 6th floor.
Looking forward to going there again!
- Renato Javier (8/5): Muy bueno..! - Nos fue muy bien, zona cercana al centro de Cuzco, muy bueno la amabilidad del personal del hotel.
- kgomez04 (4/5): Hotel review - Staff and personal were not friendly. Beds were too stiff of a surface to lay on. Overall appeal of the hotel was dark and cold. The only positive remark my friend and I can make, the hot water in the shower was excellent!
- David (4/5): Money stolen from the safe - We spent an unplanned night at the hotel, having arrived in Cusco sooner than planned. We left some money in the hotel room safe, in order not to carry around all our valuables. The money was counted beforehand. The next morning, before the check out, much to our disbelief and disappointment, we realised that some of the money was actually missing from the safe. Someone thought we wouldn't realise it, but as it was only our third night in Peru and we are very particular with our money, we knew straight away how much was taken and even in which notes. I confronted the hotel manager, who of course claimed it was impossible for anyone to use the master key, I didn't expect any other response. I was going to call the police and meet with the owners, but due to time constraints my wife convinced me to let it go and we got on with the rest of our trip without further disappointments. Just to make you all aware, do not leave any valuables in the safe. They are not safe!
