From our arrival night there was only parking in the back of hotel under the trees where there were 100's of birds or bats elevators were out of order which we had to carry our luggage to the 4th floor but on the 2nd flights of stairs I fell forward which till this day I'm hurting & waiting for a response from booking.com to refund us our money the room was very dirty sheets & all. The staff allowed me to use the meeting room to work on my computer when it was not otherwise occupied. I didn't notice there was quite reasonable quality free coffee in the "store" until the second week, but I took advantage of it after that. Bring your own half-and-half.

- Rick_2785 (4/5): Very Misleading and Deeply Disappointing Stay - The pictures online for the Candlewood Suites in San Marcos are extremely misleading — they’ve clearly been altered or taken many years ago. The property is much older and more run-down than advertised. The elevator felt sketchy, and the entire hotel had a strong smell of both cigarettes and marijuana. My room was in terrible condition. It was very dated and worn, with cracks and holes in the walls. The bathtub had a patch over what was clearly previous damage, and there were stains on the bathroom counter. The kitchen floor had crumbs and bits of food left from prior guests, showing that it hadn’t been cleaned properly. The bed was uncomfortable, and the pillows were so thick they propped my neck up unnaturally high — I woke up with a sore neck. I also presented a tax exemption form at check-in, but was still charged taxes upon checkout, which was frustrating. To make matters worse, there’s no complimentary breakfast. When I asked, the front desk said it’s because the rooms have full kitchens — which makes no sense, since I’ve stayed at many suite hotels with full kitchens that still offer breakfast. Overall, this hotel is nowhere near the quality or comfort promised in the online listings. I would never stay here again, nor at any other location under this brand.

It’s definitely not the worst in the world but it is run down. The room was pretty dirty. Found hair pins on the carpet dust balls all over. The bathroom is pretty ruff shape and the sink would not drain because the sink stop was broken, had to prop it up with a piece of plastic. Went down to the desk around 9pm and nobody was around. Tried to call the desk and the phone was broken and would not make calls. Sketchy grounds that need to be cleared from overgrown weeds. I haven’t seen any roaches yet but I can feel them watching and waiting ready to come out when the lights go off. I’ll be sleeping with the lights on.

The room was excellent, spacious and very nice, with high ceilings, real clean. I enjoyed the USB ports to charge my phone they are placed in excellent locations. Well it has everything I needed but maybe an upgrade on the outlets could make a difference. But other than that, it's a good place.

This is one of the worse IHG properties I have stayed at. I was telling him how home like Candlewood suites are and then we got there. It was very dated, not clean. I put a sheet on the couch before I would sit on it. I won't stay there again. Since then, I have stayed at another Haven managed property and had unresolved issues there as well. Unfortunately, all IHG San Marcos Propeties are managed by the same company. Best to go to New Braunfels HI express

Almost like staying with best friends! Good comfortable and clean It was very convenient access from the interstate. A warm clean comfortable bed. Very clean and easy to use. No it was tailored for all my needs. We were able to use the business nook which helped our trip go smoother. Yes we locked our key card in the room. It was late but the staff quickly assisted in getting another card and no complaints.

- O260QKpatg (2/5): ROACHES AND RUN DOWN HOTEL - Upon walking in, we were told the KeyCard system was down. So check-in took almost 45 minutes because it was done manually on a different system. The elevators were also not working, and there was no ETA for repairs. Upon reading other reviews after our return home, this has been happening for months, including people reporting roaches. We had to be escorted to our (3) suites) on the 4th floor, hauling luggage for 10 people, and let into our rooms with their master key cards. We were advised that it would be better not to lock our doors if we planned to go out. Not lock our doors? But the worst was yet to come.... upon waking up in the morning, there was a large roach crawling on top of the comforter while we were still in the bed!!! Then we saw smaller roaches in the restrooms. When we reported it to the front desk, her response was "OH". No apologies, she did not seem concerned and was not surprised. We will never stay there again. The hotel looks nothing like the pictures; it is outdated and run down and in need of repairs as well as being exterminated for roaches. YES we tried to cancel and get a refund when we first got there however we were told we needed to contact Expedia as that is who we booked through. We tried to find another room that could accommodate 10 of us and we’re unable to find anything due to the fact that it was Texas state weekend or college move in which is the reason we were there. Then on Monday I contacted Expedia and was told that Candlewood refused to give us a refund and that it was really up to them and not to Expedia 😡

Then we tried to check in only to find out KEY CARD system had been down for a 2nd day so no key card to issue. They had to personally let us in our rooms with a key card and advised that we not lock the doors if we were going to be going in and out. Then they also tell us the elevators are broken and no ETA of when they would be fixed. So we had to carry our luggage to the 4th floor and there were 10 of us with kids. Upon waking up the next morning, there was a large roach crawling on our bed! When I checked out and told the front desk her reply was 'OH'. Never again will we stay there.

This was not just inconvenient — it was unacceptable. A reservation is a promise, and this property failed to honor it or provide meaningful support. Management needs to address this failure and compensate guests appropriately, or travelers should think twice before booking here.

We were fortunate to find one of the last rooms in San Marcos at a very lower end motel. We had to stay in town due to moving our daughter into college. The curtains had what appeared to be blood stains on them. In the drawers of the bathroom Simone left pubic trimmers, dirty underwear and pajama pants. The staff did nothing to take care of the problems. The rewards program was a joke as well. There is little to no lighting in the parking lot so I was a bit surprised my car was still there in the morning. Took photos of all of these things and still the management did nothing. It seriously appeared to be a “pay by the hour hotel”. I do not recommend anything about this hotel other than leaving!

They said i needed to speak with Expedia about it as it was out of there hands. I even offered to pay for an upgraded room and was told they couldn't do it. The bed and pillows were extremely uncomfortable which i could have lived with if it wasn't for the next part. The elevator went out literally right when we got there granted this was at 230 in the afternoon. They said they could get anyone to fix it till the morning. So every time i left my room i had to take the stairs from the 4th floor. I seen folks struggling due to there age or how much stuff they had. I helped one larger family with their belongings as they had children and a baby. It was an older Mexican family and his pride was big and didn't want any help but did accept my help due to how much he was carrying up those stairs. I went and floated the river for the day and when i came back to wash all that off the shower wouldn't drain so i was standing in a tub full of water during my shower. I think for what i paid this place was joke and ill never go back. Oh yeah as far as they elevator goes then next day it was down even after i checked out at 11 lol. When complained to the receptionist about the whole elevator incident i was offered a free bag of chips. Check out morning my wife went to get coffee that following morning and after her stair-master hike with no luck due to no condiments.

I flew to San Marcos from South Carolina in a small plane, with a planned 5-night stay. Due to severe weather along my return route, I had to check out a day early. To my surprise, I was still charged for the unused final night. No one mentioned this early checkout policy at booking or check-in, and I’ve never encountered this at any similar property. I explained the weather situation at checkout, but the charge stood. I followed up with hotel management and corporate, but received no resolution. If you’re considering this hotel, make sure you get all policies in writing up front—including what happens if your plans change.
