Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (2/5): - They should stop their online reservation until they fix their system, its inconvenient for the people who will going to rent and they already charge your credit card because you do not know that they have problem in their system and its too late for you to cancel the reservation and when you get to their building you need to pay cash over your pocket because you no longer have a choice. Very tirreble, its good thing that I bring extra peso during my vacation or else I dont know where to stay, I cant withdraw money and I have appointments close to that area the next morning, thats why I rented that place. What a terrible place. I will not coming back again. Until now I did not yet get my refund.
- Roselyn (2/5): - toilet cover seat was gone. its hard to get a taxi. no security in the lobby. shower look like they never clean up.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This property is so far from the photos and amenities described. DO NOT BOOK. The walls and plaster are peeling the bathrooms mild and mildew. Only one bed was made and the second was vinyl. AC was noisy and outside the window was a vent which started at 6am like a freight train. The area is less than desirable.
- Sherry Ann (2/5): - I booked the room for my brother but since I’m not so good with online stuff. I didn’t get to put his name in the booking. I called Expedia customer service to ask for help but was told that it’s the hotel that could not help me. So I just paid something that I didn’t get to avail. So disappointed for both Expedia and the Express Inn Cebu
- ian francis (4/5): hotel's only strong point: hot shower - 1. i can deal with poor/so-so facilities. even if the hotel does not look good, even if you have very very old/overused towels, even if the toilet bowl is a bit dirty and the shower head, a bit rusty, all good with me.
2. i just wish the hotel staff were a little bit more considerate during checkin. i already showed you my payment receipt. you still wouldn't let me checkin just because it's not reflected in your system. you didn't even offer to help sort the problem out.
3. i hope you don't enter the guests room before they checkout. your excuse/reason for doing so is unacceptable. it also caused inconvenience on my part because i had to wait until you find the person who has the key to my room.
- Aileen (2/5): - It was terrible. Dirty, dusty, toilet flush is broken, many cockroach. Towel 3-4 days used before they change it.
- HERMINIA VERA ALITA (10/5): Very good - Nice
- Randy (8/5): Cold shower - The room was decent. The bed was a common uratex 6" foam mattress. It wasn't good for my back but I survived. The price was fair. The shower was unfortunately cold.
- Dirk (2/5): - I did not like being changed twice for my one day stay at the hotel. Despite my best efforts to explain and attempt to explore options, I was being required to pay again. If you two (Expedia &hotel) would communicate, I would not be mistreated. It became so miserable that I booked a different hotel, using a different agent, for my remaining 25 days in the Philippines. And to Expedia, according to Google maps, I traveled 2.9 times around the world. I stayed in hotels, and traveled 352 days. You will see me do it again this year. But not a penny through Expedia. Four different years in my dozen years of travel, I used you, same bad results.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Staff was rude upon check-in and refused to help my pregnant wife with her luggage. 1st room she was given wasn’t cleaned, 2nd room she was infested with roaches. checked out and went to another hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I was elated to check out of The Roach Motel from Hell plus plus. During my check in experience.I was told per the male night counter boy to have a seat while they waited on guest checking in after me. I asked the counter boy. What am i waiting over 20 minutes for? He gave my reservation to Ms. Kim the Manager. She started to rush on my reservation because she was ashamed of me waiting so long. I then checked into my room #403. I was greeted by 2 roaches and black/white bath towels and bath mat. I called the front desk and i explained my finding to Ms.Kim. She told me that they cant do anything about the roaches. I asked Ms.Kim ( do you expect me to kill all your roaches all night). She said yes you can kill roaches all night. I excuse, you need to bring roach spray here and clean towels. I hung up the phone. Later the phone rang, it was guy whom said he would come to check the room. The guy arrived and i showed him area in the bathroom where the roaches were. The Amored Roache i killed came back to life and walked away. He sprayed the bathroom. Also he left another dirty black/white dirty towel. This is Poor /Disgrace structure of a Roach Venue. Also smoke detector is missing battery and face cover.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - No hot shower and traffic noise is terrible. The location is good, food was alright.
- Verified traveler (2/5): No Air-conditioning, management unsympathetic - As promised on their hotel.com site, the facility had Air-conditioner (AC), because sleeping the Philippines without AC is not very comfortable. The AC in the room did not work. Called to complaint, and was visited by house keeping to check the AC. As suspected the staff declared the AC non-functional. Requested for a room transfer, nothing was available, for a fan, no fan in the hotel. At this point, leaving the hotel in the middle of the night was not an option. The first night was hell on earth, with the Philippine heat turning the room into an oven. The overnight staff was apologetic and I would not dare blame the front end for this debacle. The morning after I called for compensation, at minimum the first of three nights, to be comp. In the beginning of the conversation, Admin manager Ruby's tactic was, blame the guest, making sure I was aware that all their AC was checked and fully functional. I was trying to interpret what she meant, was it that I broke the AC or the malfunction never happened. Ruby and the person she had a conversation with while I was on the phone, possibly feeding her answers, were not sympathetic to how that room felt overnight. For a hotel chain that is aspiring to expand into the touristy area, they have a long way to go. I blame all this on the inept regional manager Ray, for not training and empowering his staff to service their customers properly. Sorry Ray I did not have the opportunity to chat with you, as Ruby made sure of that.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Cockroach in the Room - We made a reservation more than a week prior to arrival, and we checked in late, after 10pm, which should be enough time for the hotel to ensure that our reservation, and room are all in-order. When we arrived, they looked for our reservation, and have to check a few times if payment had been made. When we got to our room, found a few cockroaches. We went down to reception and asked for another room. The staff were hesitant, I have to show them a photo of the cockroach, and only then did they check if there is a room available. They were not even apologetic for this.
The next room that was given, blinds are spoiled.
During check-out, we told the lady at Reception that we are checking out, that we will be having breakfast first and we will come back. After breakfast, which was about 30mins later, they still have not checked if all the items in the room are in order, and if we can check out.
No, we are definitely not be coming back. There are other hotels at the same price range with better service, and with much much better rooms.
- RICA (8/5): - the area is nice, the room is clean and somewhat comfortable. near SM and Sea Ports so I recommend book it on the last day of your vacation
- Kurt (8/5): Good first night hotel - This was a nice hotel to stay at before leaving for the islands. The staff are all friendly and have warm smiles. The hotel is a little old but they are trying to do their best with what they have. There is a shopping mall just around the corner that is worth seeing. Just make sure to pick up a good cheap SIM card for the rest of your journey. Also, this hotel is close to the North Bus Terminal, which you will need to use if you are going anywhere in Cebu.
- Matt (4/5): Express-ly a shower/sleep facility - Booked after recommendation by friend Cebu local. Economy/affordability is strong suite. First was given room with broken door lock. Asked for & got different room. Small Aircon unit labors to cool room well. Bed/mattress is 5 inch foam only on slat frame. The pillows were of good quality. Every night there were cockroaches (killed 6 during stay) crawling the walls & ants patrol walls by day. Neighbors TV was clearly heard. Missing vertical window blind slats presented a creativity challenge to maintain privacy. Several front desk staff didn't always present friendly visages, however restaurant staff was wonderful. Local food/gift vendors line the nearby streets each night, adding a magical Cebu City urban cultural color & flavor to the visit.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel close to SM City mall - Hotel located 10 minutes walking from SM City Mall, where is also a jeepney terminal and MyBus terminal. Mybus goes to the airport for 25 PHP in 20 minutes if no traffic jam. Rooms are clean, OK size with very small windows. Breakfast standard served from 6 am. Staff too formal and some procedures like breakfast vouchers too complicated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): Express Inn Mabolo review - Check-in was good. However, staying in the room was a bit uncomfortable since we saw a cockroach inside and the remote control for the tv wasn't working. The bed sheets looked like they weren't changed. We could hear noises outside the window. We didn't get complimentary slippers. Good thing we brought ours. The toilet rooms exhaust fan wasn't working. But maybe it was just our room. On the good side, they did have hot and cold shower and the place was a walking distance to the mall and pharmacy.
- mike (8/5): nice hotel close to S &R, S M City mall, and Pier - nice room, floor of CR collects water from shower and the shower control is single handle backwards from normal to find the hot water. very clean better then many i have been too. the restaurant open for breakfast was nice and clean with filipino menu. tacino, rice, egg, with ice tea was very good.
- Larry (10/5): nice hotel close to everything - we stayed there for almost a month and nothing to fault, really. the hotel is clean and all the staff are all friendly.
- Ric (6/5): Just okay - Place is not soundproofed. My room's view is a noisy highway even late at night. Free breakfast a bit salty. No housekeeping. The shower flooring gets flooded up every time I shower. Free wifi is virtually useless. Good thing my iPad and phone have data.
- Paolo (8/5): Good budget hotel - Ojt sanara was hospitable and food service good
- Verified traveler (4/5): Near SM Cebu - Staff lacks smile in their faces, it seems like they are there just to earn their salary they don't seem to love their job. The breakfast is sub par, their juice is like cold water with flavored sugar, coffee is instant coffee and it does'nt even taste like coffee. Food is worst they put ham and egg but we're given with spiced ham for sandwich with scrambled egg and rice . I booked and paid online but when i checked in we waited for 15 to 20 mins. , while someone walked in and they we're entertained while we waited for a long time when i have already paid ahead. They need a lot lot lot of improvement.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Was trying different budget 2 star hotel in Metro. - No value for money. crown chains of hotels is far more satisfying. Will never be back in this hotel or could be the bottom choice
- Verified traveler (2/5): Shoe box - + Friendly staff
+ Helpful to get a taxi
- php 1860 for a room the size of a shoe box
- very small bed (54' x 80' queen size for 2 persons)
- no window / no view
- very small room: bedroom 2x2m bathroom 1x2m
- no ventilation in bathroom
- for breakfast you'll get 2 slices of bread and have to pay extra if you want more :( for 1860 that's really sad
- vegetarian options: "Sir you can choose chicken or beef".
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and very pleasant - This is a very nice and comfortable place to stay and is very near to the shopping areas and places that we needed to be. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends when they will visit Cebu
- Feel X (6/5): Nice Hotel close to SM mall - Nice one night stay, not well known for the Taxi guy . Make sure you tell your driver is near mall . Had problems finding it
- Verified traveler (8/5): Near to malls and shopping - This is a pleasant place to stay. Staff are friendly and rooms are very nice
- Verified traveler (8/5): Near everything - The stay was very pleasant and would recommend this hotel to others.
- Alan (8/5): very good - very nice
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We could hear the noise outside from the passing and beeping vehicles, and even from the jeepney barkers! The breakfast meal was no good. We ordered fish fillet but seems its all made up of flour. The good thing though was its a few minutes walking distance to SM City Cebu and there were accessible jeepneys going to Ayala Center.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was A nice hotel however wifi is too slow it takes time to connect
- Verified traveler (4/5): SLEEPLESS NIGHT - Room Air Condition takes a long time to cool; gets louder and louder.
Despite there is only one panel of window, the noise from the main road is so loud in the night , unable to sleep throughout the night. May need to double glaze the window.
HAD A VERY BAD AND SLEEPLESS NIGHT IN ROOM 704 DUE TO THE NOISE FROM BOTH THE AIR CONDITION AND THE MAIN ROAD.
- John and Jane (4/5): Clean Hotel Friendly Staff, but too many Problem! - Clean hotel in good position for SM Mall. Staff helpful and I feel very sorry for them! If you have a room at the front of the hotel do not expect to sleep before Three in the Morning. Street noise very bad and with daylight through to the street around three side of the air conditioner no way to stop noise. Staff helpful, but in evening there are no staff available. We turned on our TV at 19.00 and found all chanels showed the No SIgnal message. My wife called and visited reception four times to be told they were busy as there was only two staff in the hotel. At 23.00 someone came and fixed the TV. DO NOT PAY FOR BREAKFAST. Breakfast is in the hotel cafe open to the public. The first morning of our two night stay we visited at 8.30, 9.00, 9.30 and 9.45 and no free table. We had to go out and buy breakfast. Second day we did get breakfast. Would we stay there again? NO. There are plenty of reasonable priced hotels in Cebu. This is not one we would use again.
- louhney88 (6/5): an ok budget hotel - 7-10 mins. walk to SM city cebu. If you are on a budget, this hotel would be your choice. The room is ok, except for the blinds, there were missing part of it so not able to close it properly and you are totally exposed to the outside. Had to use a towel to cover the window for privacy. Check in took a while because they could not find my booking in their system and I had to show them my phone with the email from expedia. Geez.
- Steve (2/5): It's a bit on the dark side - This is not in a good part of Cebu, take precautions when going out. You may also get upset by the street kids. SM City is a short walk and is good enough, Ayala is bigger and better.
The hotel is handy for the ferry port, not much else.
It's very dark, scary even. Only had one lift which is really slow.
Pillows are next to useless. Nearly a week later my neck still hurts.
Breakfast is cheap for a reason, because it's basically rubbish.
We're a gay couple, reception giggled when they noticed we'd booked a double bed.
Look, it's cheap for an overnight stay. The water is hot. The staff in the breakfast room really acted like they didn't want to be there at all, the menu was thrown into the table.
Coffee was a cup of hot water with packet coffee, creamer and sugar, well done for the effort guys ... not.
AC was noisy even for me and I wear hearing aids. But at least it had it. No top sheet btw, just a blanket.
Like I said for one cheap night near the port it's OK, for a stay in Cebu, pay the extra.
- Ray (6/5): hotel staff service very friendly. - I suggest that you need to put laundry service for the guest. I spent over a week and there is no laundry service in the area.
- J (6/5): Ok - Great. Comfortable but nothing to brag about. Beds tiny
- Val (2/5): Dishonest Housekeeping Service - It was good until i discovered that i lost some international currency and a few local coins. The house keeping are dishonest.
- larryD (8/5): nice clean comfort and close to everything - for the price, it's hard to fault the hotel starting from the staff they are all very nice including the guard with all smiles. the room has a comfortable bed, a hot/cold shower and air condition.
- joyce (4/5): observations and feedback - Generally , I would rate the inn as 6/10. Hotel personnel were respectful except for the front liner who was rude!
- larry (8/5): affordable convenient and clean place to stay - a local of cebu of 20years before migrated to australia for 30+ years. initially booked for 4days with the intention to move around different affordable hotels but disappointed to find some hotels we had in mind only looked nice in picture. so we ended up staying for 36days in total. the hotel is manned 24x7 with front reception and security with restaurant, rose pharmacy 2doors down, massage on level1, andoks takeaway around the corner and GMart mini grocery is just a little few steps away. to the other side just a meters away, two bakeries to choose from. we initially stayed in a superior double bed until my daughter stayed with us and paid an extra bed for P500/n. to save some money paying the extra bed and a comfort of a bigger room, we had to move and the staff were more than happy to attend to our needs until my daughter left to come home after her 10day stay. soon after she left, we requested to downgrade to a smaller room and no questions asked they moved us again. calls to housekeeping wait is no more than 15minutes. overall experience, the staff were very respectful, the hotel is clean as well as the rooms, 5minutes walk to St Joseph church, less than 10minutes walk to SM mall, less than 10minutes taxi to Ayala mall.
- Edwin (4/5): Don't stain the towels!! - Everything was working smoothly until we had a couple issues with them. First of all, the shower doesnt have a curtain and there is no even a separation between the shower and toilet, therefore you will end up getting the whole bathroom wet. This was the moment when we used some towels to put on the floor to prevent the water to come into the room and also because it was slippery. 3 Towels got stained and when we come back they wanted to charge us 750 pesos to clean them up which is around $15. We were really mad and it was all management's fault because the people who work there were nice. I told them to give me the towels that I would take them to the laundry and they asked me for a deposit of 1000 pesos (20$) for 3 poor quality towels! I ended up paying 50 pesos ( a dollar and change) at the laundry for all 3 towels. Basically this hotel lost my business for a dollar.. rooms were some what dirty and small (we were a group of 4). Look around because there are nicer hotels for the same amount of money.
- MAY ANGELA (10/5): - Good. Its accessible and convenient to stay
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old facilities and no hot water - Old towels and many old facilities were terrible.
- grant (4/5): - The room was overpriced and small. The girl at front desk in the morning was really rude to me.
- Verified traveler (8/5): #Can'tSleep# - you need to surrender your key everytime you go outside which i think it is not necessary, they have slow wifi connection all over the floors expect in the lobby, we can't sleep bcoz of too much noise outside the street..
- Verified traveler (6/5): so so - not bad not good
I dont think I'll visit here if I come to cebu again
- Tim and Lorna (8/5): Clean, convient, and inexpensive. - My wife and I stayed for two nights before moving on to Manila. When my 2 brother-in-laws needed a place to stay we recommended it to them.
The good: The room was clean with shower and bathroom. It's located within walking distance of the mall and has color TV and air conditioning. Also has a good inexpensive restaurant.
The bad: No free breakfast as advertised on Expedia which caused a problem between me and the staff. Wifi rarely, if at all, worked. You have to put the door key fob in a switch which turned on the room power, so you always knew where the key was. The problem is that when you remove the key to leave, the room power is turned off so you can't charge any portable devices, such as laptop, cell phone, or accessories.
- Rosaliza (2/5): Dirty - 1. Front Desk and other staff
2.Graveyard Housekeeping
Are not Friendly, arrogant, complaints disregard
Internet in Rooms & Lobby, Not working, connection is poor
Toilet & any other area's needs attention
The value of money is unworthy
Not recommended. Never again!
- Tim and Lorna (8/5): Very acceptable stay - THE PROS:
The room was small, but that was to be expected with the name of "Express Inn", but it was clean and very comfortable. It is in a good location with taxi service available with 30 seconds to 2 minutes at the front door, and with in 5-10 minutes walking distance SM Mall. The air conditioning worked very well.
THE CONS:
There was a problem with the sound on some of the TV channels, but we didn't stay there to watch TV. When we left the room you had to pull the room key out of the electrical switch which turned off the power to ALL the electric in the room so we couldn't charge any electronic devices while we were out of the room. The WIFI in the room was really only acceptable in the very early morning (6:00AM? We're early risers).
Expedia.ph is almost non-existent anywhere in the Philippines which is not a fault of Express Inn, I just have problem with expedia.ph that I can't get a page to load in under 10 minutes which would "time out" every time I tried to pay. This happened in EVERY location we tried so we just stopped trying to use Expedia.ph. We actually went to the airport to book a flight to Manila and got it for around 40% less than expedia.ph's price. That really irritates me. Also the hotel would not honor the free breakfast because we booked throgh expedia.ph.
Wel, I feel better now that I got to trash Expedia.ph. Perhaps this is just a personal problem that I have, or perhaps it's my iPad. Whatever, I hope you don't have this problem too.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The best part about this hotel is it's near distance to a large mall. Basic budget hotel with friendly staff.
- Mishelle (8/5): It was just okay. Close to malls! :) - If you're looking for a low-budget hotel then I recommend this!
- big daddy Tate (2/5): Not the best place to stay - The hotel is horrible....dirty shower, not so good aircondition, and the staff sucked...
- michael (6/5): located next to SM mall, not great but ok. - Hotel is 10 minute walk to SM Mall...a huge big mall where you can find anything really cheap. Bed was comfy, aircon worked, TV had some channels in English. The floor of the room was what seemed to be concrete? No flooring at all, they need to roll some Lino down there or something as it felt cold and dirty to walk on. Hotel was ok and because we were close to the mall we can't complain too much, but seriously they need to sort out the floors in the rooms.
- Helen (4/5): location near SM Mall. they charge for an extra sheet! - Hotel is close to SM Mall where they have loads of cheap shops and Cinema with English films and Bowling Alley, about 10 minutes walk from hotel. Rooms were ok, but the floor is random they don't appear to have any carpet or tiles on it, it looks like concrete. TV has English channels. Aircon was good. Bed was ok, although we did ask them to change the sheets because the first on had stains on it. Also they charge you for extra sheets or blankets! Which we thought was bad, I mean it is only an extra sheet because we were cold we don't think they should charge for this. Hotel is close to all bus station in Cebu. On the whole it's ok for visiting the mall and staying a few nights but that's it.
- James (4/5): Budget hotel next to busy main street. - Deluxe double sub-standard room only, no fridge, no tea or coffee making facility in the room, no safe deposit in the room, have to use reception for safe keeping of passport and extra money. Very annoying. Very noisy all day and night, had to ask for another room. Dont think of upgrading you find same thing, will be a waste of time and money. Had hot water problems in both rooms I lived in, one room had runny tap and constantly made noise like fire engine passing by. Complained about it many times and nothing was done to stop the noise. Some TV channels didnt have signals, so I didnt care less. Matress had fitted sheet only, no flat sheet. First time I entered the room and looked at the bed, sheet was not clean and had stains all over. Was told the room is ready and cleaned, how embarrassing. Breakfast included, same thing every morning, two piece white toast and two tablespoon scrambled eggs. Had to go to the mall everyday to have morning tea and other meals. Meals were horrible in the hotel restuarant, good for locals. If you are looking for value for money go elsewhere and try booking off the main streets and construction sites, very noisy and dusty everywhere most places outside the hotel.
- Gord (8/5): A budget Hotel but very comfortable--central---and - I got there and there were no hidden charges---the room was basic but clean and comfortable and the area was safe and close to the S M Mall!
If you need a cheap and clean hotel 40 mins from the airport this is a good hotel for the price!
- Jose (8/5): Staff respectful, friendly, service-oriented. - I erroneously plugged in a 220 volt transformer which caused the line to trip, had no electricity in my room. Electrician was not available because it was night time and weekend. I was moved to another room which was okay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good Place to Stay, Great Staff - We needed two nights, our first two in Cebu City. It worked out very well, the staff was excellent, the free breakfast was good. Everything worked well, the AC included.
- 재스민 (6/5): Always noisy with trafics, seemed never sleep. - Convenient for walking distance for restaurants.
- markjco (8/5): Convenient but Noisy - The overall quality of accommodation and service is very good. The only problem is that the area is noisy at night because it's by the highway.
- Cebu (2/5): request cancellation - The hotel didn't look like what was shown on the internet. the room was very small for 2 adults and a kid. I cancelled my second day reservation and they told me I have to contact hotels.com. the hotel was located in a poor area that I would not walk around after dark. The internet pictures are very misleading
- Poloy (6/5): - it\s only average
- John Paterson (8/5): Good location - Service was excellent, hotel was clean though very basic. Food and service in the hotel restaurant (for dinner) was of high standard. Though the free brekfast was small and needing to be augmented, it was likewise delicious.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Value, Convenience and Comfort, although... - The design of floor drainage connecting the space for the bathroom to the toilet in this hotel is flawed in such a way that the water flows straight to the floor where the toilet is. Enjoy your stay in this hotel for all the good reasons other than a perpetual wet toilet floor..
- Guy (10/5): Fantastic value for money - The hotel is a fairly new hotel, with all services, the staff are absolutley first class, there is free Internet in every room and stacks of hot water for showers. The rooms were fairly basic but had telephone, satalite TV, but only a bottom sheet, with a blanket top cover. If you require an extra pillow or blanket ther is an extra charge, which I thought a bit off. Our location was not the best, although the staff tried to move us the room faced onto the very busy street just outside of SM so from 4 am it was difficult to sleep. The complimentary breakfast was very basic but we were offered an upgrade at quite a cheap cost. Overall the staff were the main thing which made the stay worthwhile. However, the charge for an extra blanket and pillow took off the shine. But for the price a great place to stay.
- Ford (4/5): OK VALUE ROOM, LOUSY SERVICE - The rooms are ok, clean and neat for the price. But, I asked for my roon to be cleaned twice in the same day and came back in the morning to find the same dirty sheets and dishes from the prior evening's room service. Checking out, the front desk gave me a bill for the entire room stay though I had booked and paid in full on Hotels.com. I had to get out my laptop, log in, find a confirmation number... While delaying breakfast and worrying about making the bus out to the islands. Also, the key to our room did not work well so I had to go and get someone to open the room for us each time we returned on the final day thoug I asked for the lock to be fixed. Potential for a real value stay if the staff can get it together and get organized.
