- GC (7/5): A unique experience in Singapore - Love the surrounding with abundance of food choices, both costly and economical. Located near the Arab street area is a plus, when we could spend an afternoon venturing into the small lanes of shopping and food hunting. Hotel was converted from a row of old shophouses. Enjoyed the cultural vibe while staying there. Staff was friendly enough. No screaming kids running around the lobby, which was a plus point for us. Not near any subway station. But near several bus stops. If it rains, you are typically trapped because there is no shelter to anywhere else other than the doorstep of the hotel.

The corridors could be very noisy at night as it was almost impossible to close the room doors quietly. It would be nice to have a mirror in the bedroom, rather than relying on the dimly lit one in the bathroom.

Had to report that there was a sharp end of a spring sticking out of my side of the mattress. It stabed me in the leg when I sat on the bed. Locked like it had been like it for a long time. Quite Dangerous. Hopefully the management will replace the mattress ASAP.

We loved the Sultan, which has excellent and very friendly staff. The room was certainly quiet and clean with a comfortable bed and we will stay here next time we're in Singapore!

Unsere Zimmer im hintersten Dachgeschoss waren schön leise und recht dunkel, da es nur ein Dachfenster gab. Für uns super, um den Jetleg auszukurieren. Die Betten waren sehr bequem und die Zimmer hatten eine gute Größe. Die Klimaanlage hat gut funktioniert, war allerdings ziemlich laut und und zu nah am Bett, sodass wir sie nachts ständig an und aus machen mussten, um uns nicht zu erkälten.

The room was large and extremely comforatable so was the bed. The location was perfect in the interesting Arab quarter and excellent for sightseeing. - Ainoa (7/5): Fantastic Location, But the Hotel Needs Better Maintenance - The location is absolutely outstanding. You’re right in the heart of the Arab Quarter, just a couple of blocks from countless restaurants, cafés, and great places to grab a drink at night. Public transport is extremely accessible, and the area is full of charming spots and beautiful hotels around. For location alone, it’s a 10/10. The room itself was incredibly spacious and aesthetically very nice. You can tell the property must have been a truly beautiful hotel in the past. However, it’s also clear that the hotel hasn’t been maintained or updated for quite some time. The floors were heavily scratched, and the wooden bed frame showed significant wear. In our room, someone had previously stored durian in the fridge, and every time we opened it to get water, the smell was extremely strong. Given Singapore’s context, I believe the hotel should prohibit keeping durian in the rooms — it felt like a very basic policy that was missing. The bathroom was also extremely small, making it difficult to move around or leave the door open, which made ventilation almost impossible. Overall, although the room was spacious and pleasant, the hotel would benefit greatly from investing in maintenance and updating key elements of the space.

- Alec (8/5): Will visit again but not during peak pricing - Nicely varied neighbourhood, interesting building, great staff and very nice complementary drinks and satay on the roof terrace on a Friday. price was relatively high because of the F1 races during my stay. And a bit of extra upkeep wouldn't hurt. The rooms are quite basic and unfortunately the couple in the room below me were very loud!

- Sophie (10/5): - We spent ages trying to decide where to stay in Singapore, but this place looked in a good location so we booked. Can I just say, if you are looking for a reasonably priced private room right in the heart of the action this is the place you should choose!! I just couldn’t fault it, Kampong Glam is super fun, you’re walking distance from the major sights, but everything is so well connected you can get anywhere easily from here. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s not got an MRT station outside, it’s just a short walk to Bugis or Lavender. Lovely staff, room was perfect. Very minor but wouldn’t have minded a full length mirror.

The only thing is that sound isolation wasn't that good and I could hear my room neighbors as well as the people walking doxn the corridor

- morsiani (1/5): AWFUL - Walking out Everything. It was the worst hotel stay in my life. The room smelled strongly of stale and musk and the smell was so strung I struggled to fall asleep. The gardeners woke us up with the noise of leaf blowers and other gardening tools at 9 am on a Sunday morning, working just below our window. We had booked a twin room and they didn’t have it when we arrived so put us in a double. Moved us to two different rooms one worse than the other. When we eventually decided to leave and find another hotel as the conditions were just too bad and I requested a refund I had to follow up constantly and still after a month there is no sign of refund despite their word. Awful, avoid at all costs. Booking.com you really shouldn’t advertise these types of hotels in your website. Can’t trust the other reviews to be genuine.

- Tony (4/5): Disappointing and uncomfortable stay despite good staff service. - Convenient places to eat outside. The lighting in the bathroom was bad, only had one mirror in the bathroom. The bathroom was really tight. Only a rain shower is available. It was noisy being on the ground floor, with a lot of scraping furnitures and heavy thumping footsteps from above which woke us early morning and night. Rusty and worn out light fittings, peeling wall paper and dusty window and walls. In all could do with a make over and a good spring clean.
- Jaak (9/5): Comfortable hotel - The hotel was comfortable, room was located on ground floor along corridors. Well equipped and comfortable accommodation. Staff very helpful and friendly. View from window was obscured by plants and looked onto road. Close to lots of restaurants. The hotel is located very close to the road so occasionally people congregated under our window. We couldn't open our windows.
