- Emily (10/5): Incredible stay - most amazing staff. - Stunning hotel, the facilities were wonderful and the room was gorgeous. The room was enormous and had everything you needed. I also had a special request as needed help from the staff and they were excellent communicators and were incredibly helpful - honestly couldn't thank them enough! The staff were fabulous. It was very easy to get here by car and the parking was great. Thank you again Shoho!!

- IreneD11 (10/5): Amazing view with private bath - Absolutely massive room, exactly as pictured in the listing photos. Incredible expansive view of the Japanese alps, and gorgeous free-standing open-air bath. There was a spacious living room with fresh coffee beans and a grinder, local treats sent to the room to sample each day with the towel delivery, a large toilet room, shower and double vanity basins. The breakfast was Japanese style buffet with amazing range of choice, and everything was fresh. Bus stop a few steps away, takes you straight into town and to Matsumoto castle.

Amazing views and location - Location, facilities, private onsen bath in room, social facilities and reception drinks (beer, hot drinks and ice cream), staff and onsite noodle bar and shop. Breakfast choices were amazing. Nice relaxed atmosphere and stunning view. Slightly dated feeling and unused smell in some of the corridors - just a bit stale but nothing major. No separate shower cubicle to the onsen bathroom.

Close enough from the Matsumoto station. There is a free shuttle bus from the station. Food and onsen baths were excellent. Clean and well kept room and facility.

- Cheuk Lam Karen (10/5): Wonderful hotel for private onsen experience - The room with private onsen and Mountain View was the highlight of our Japan trip. The room is spacious and modernized. Western and traditional Japanese parts blended in very well. We really enjoyed our time in Shoho My husband found the bathroom dated and the toilet had an odd smell.

- Elizabeth (9/5): Wonderful onsen experience in Matusmoto - The hotel was much bigger than I imagined. We arrived on a rainy afternoon and got checked in right away. There are a wide variety complementary drinks available, teas, various sodas, etc. There were also snacks availabe. Our room was quite spacious and had it's own tub which had hot springs mineral water. The bed was comfortable. There are two public baths. The public bath has a view of the mountains and was quite large with three differnt pools. This bath was for women in the afternoon/evening and men in the morning. The other public bath was available morning and evening and had seperate sections for men and women. You can also reserve a private bath for a fee. Our rooms include lounge wear and ropes which many people wore around the hotel. We booked dinner at the hotel, which I highly recommend. Dinner was excellent. There is a huge buffet for breakfast. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the train station in the morning. You can also have your luggage brought be held somewhere near the train station if you plan on leaving later in the day. The pillows were like a lot of pebbles were in them and were not fluffy or comfortable. The hotel is not close to Matsumoto Castle. We took a bus from near the castle to the hotel which worked fine but we did not return to the castle at night time to see the light show, partially because it wouldn't be that easy to get back and forth. We did not see a lot of taxies around. They did have a video of the light show running in the lobby so I watched that instead.

- Anthony (8/5): This is my second time stay here and it was very relaxing. I will definitely stay again! - The room was very spacious and clean and the toilet room is quite separated for privacy. The in room semi-outdoor bath was perfect. The coffee beans and grinder is an especially good detail. I wish it were easier to have ice in the room - no ice machine access, and when we called the front desk they required us to come to the lobby to get the ice from them.

- CY (10/5): - Such warm welcoming service! From door to dinning to check out despite being such a big establishment! Better than a more exepnsive boutique ryokan that we had stayed the night before at Hirayu onsen. Staff are proficient in English and the place was run very efficiently with great service. Resel from the dinning area deserves special mention for his excellent service! Public onsens were big and we also liked the private paid onsen ( the room waa very spacious and amenities were well stocked, even a ( massage chair. Better than other private and paid onses that we have tried ) Hotel is on a hill with good views of matsumoto city. We enjoyed dinner and the top up for the wine sampler, and breakfast buffet was fantastic. Excellent value for money All was perfect! We will come again !

Devido a eu ter tatuagens grandes tivemos de ir para o Onsen privado já que no público não era permitido.

- Steve (8/5): A good and comfortable dive into Japanese onsen culture - We have appreciated the onsen facilitaties, as well as the complementary bar service. Some international staff (like our Bengali waiter) were very helpful in the communication about kitchen arrangements. The quality of the food could go for a next level as we were considering even to skip the complementary dinner and go into town. Example: over-cooked Wagyu beef On the last they we received the hotel bill. All elements were in Japanese and needed to translate with the Google app. For international guests an English version would have been a nice effort.

Un peu loin du centre mais l'hôtel organise plusieurs transports par jour depuis (16h et 17h) et vers (9h et 10h) la gare. Salle de bain un peu "basique" mais cela suffit car on utilise volontiers le onsen.

- kwek (7/5): Decent stay with beautiful view but will not return again - The room is spacious with nice view and outdoor onsen tub. The toilet and shower are separated which is good but the toilet has really bad smell. The toilet’s floor is tatami flooring and there’s a uriner and you can see there’s actually pee stain on the floor, on the tatami floor and it’s soaked with pee. It’s really awful. Breakfast was very disappointing with limited choices and staff can be rude if you stay 2mins beyond the timeframe given.

- Karen (9/5): A pleasant stay at a Spa hotel with beautiful scenery. - The rooms were very big, clean and comfortable. There were 2 very large Onsen areas with good views of the mountains and gardens. The food was really good, the Keiseiki spread was unusual and of excellent quality. Nil

- Ruth (7/5): Not what we are used to yet a good experience and staff very friendly. A unique stay! - We loved the 2 Onsens, the location and the special Japanese evening meals, very different to our western way of eating! It’s an old hotel, very 1970’s and needs some serious updating! The room we stayed in, deluxe twin was out of the shining film! Lino floors and 1970’s wallpaper, old bathroom fittings but a nice small private onsen! We are used to modern luxury 5* hotels and this was very different however very pleasant and unique!
