Guest Reviews
- Kathryn (9/5): Definitely will be back - Spa was fabulous, best I’ve been in for a while
- Tour00739018235 (10/5): Beautiful hotel, outstanding hospitality - Perfect weekend away; atmospheric, beautiful venue in a stunning setting overlooking the lake. The hotel feels luxurious yet relaxed, and the spa facilities were excellent.
A special highlight being Guru and his faultless hospitality at the Grill restaurant. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm service that made the evening feel really memorable.
The whole experience felt calm, high quality, and exactly what we were hoping for. We’ll definitely be returning.
- Andy (10/5): A peaceful relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings . - Peaceful , clean and tasteful.
- Roam733896 (10/5): Special night's stay - Had an amazing stay here with my now fiancée. Huge shout-out to Joe who made us feel immediately at home and was always on hand, Alwin who gave us brilliant recommendations and good chat at dinner and Rebecca at reception who was very helpful and gave us good directions for a lovely walk on Sale Fell. We will definitely return to this wonderful place. The grounds are stunning, as are the rooms, and you can easily walk down to Bassenthwaite. It's very romantic. Looking forward revisiting. Thanks for making our stay so special guys!
- Ian (10/5): A perfect venue for a honeymoon. - The room was amazing having been kindly upgraded for our honeymoon. We ate in all three restaurants and they were all excellent - our personal favourite was the Indian restaurant. The breakfasts too were were very good. The spa was fabulous - I had a massage and Lin a facial and we both enjoyed them and the quiet room afterwards. The grounds and the views are spectacular and having the Wild Life park so close was a lovely bonus. The staff were all incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had a thoroughly enjoyable few days there and would love to return one day. Can't think of anything.
- davew1111111 (10/5): Best Hotel in the Country - Hello. This was our 6th visit, we absolutely love the place. It has had incremental improvements since we have been going across restaurants, spa, service, food. It is beyond amazing. From check in which has improved with an unnecessary escort to the room, but I'm not complaining 😁 a nice extra touch. The Spa is very peaceful, it is never too busy, very relaxing and has new seating outside and extra inside. The restaurants and the service and staff are a credit to the place. A passion for what they do. I recommend the Fire Wheel - Twist on an Old Fasioned and created by a guy who works there. The staff really make the place special. Keep up the good work 👏
- coljo21 (10/5): Fabulous Stay - Fabulous stay… peace and perfection.. Food and ambience amazing. Beautiful grounds even the weather was kind .. Hopefully be back soon ..

- Sunshine230g (10/5): Gorgeous views, amazing house and grounds, hospitable stay - This hotel was the country house room of my dreams. Our beautiful double room was facing the lake with long windows, a turret balcony, a great bed, lovely shower and bath, and a sweet little sitting area. We had great breakfasts and dinner in the Dining Room with pleasant, charming service. Staff were very helpful with all we needed. We enjoyed walking all around the grounds. We only knew there was a wedding when we saw the bride having her photo taken, because the wedding venue is out of earshot of the main house and dining rooms.
The view is even more beautiful in reality than in the photos.
We did not have a car, so we caught a local (double-decker) bus into Keswick for the day -- a 20 minute ride or so. Traffic in Keswick was terrible on a Saturday, so we were glad we took the bus. We walked to the pier and booked a seat on the boat around the lake, got out halfway around, walked a mile or so to the Grange for lunch and took the boat back. (When you return on the bus from Keswick, be sure to push the 'Stop" button as you approach the Armathwaite stop -- or the bus will not stop!) '
The front desk called us a cab (a day in advance) to take us to the train station in Penrith -- about £75 -- and we were back in London in 4 hours. Perfect.
A truly outstanding place for a fantastic weekend (or week).
Highest recommendation.
- macgac_9 (10/5): First Class Hotel - Brilliant stay , everything was spot on and more . Our bedroom and all the public areas were immaculate. All the staff were excellent, customer service was top notch. The Hotel is set in the most beautiful well attended grounds .
The Spa was lovely, a pool that you actually do lengths in , a fab large outdoor hot tub that could accommodate plenty of people with plenty of room , various steam rooms and a large hydro pool .
Food was excellent our favourite was the Indian restaurant, best curry we have tasted in ages.
We would so recommend this fabulous hotel and certainly will be back for another excellent stay . Thank you Armathwaite and all the staff :) .
- 460job (10/5): A delightful afternoon - Stunning house and grounds professional
tentative staff couldn’t do enough for you
Service was wonderful
The after cream tea with champagne was so lovely and you can request either more sweet or savoury to suit
Just one issue we didn’t see saffi her majesty the Armthwaite kitty cat
May be next time

- RobIsland (10/5): Beautiful hotel. - This was our fourth visit to Armathwaite Hall and it was as wonderful as always. We had only been in Winter before this stay so it was so nice to be able to sit outside in the sun, have a drink and enjoy the peace and lovely views.
We had dinner in The Grill which is really nice and relaxing and the staff were so friendly, attentive and we really enjoyed their company. We were served by Giuru, Brandon and Vasi and I hope our thanks and gratitude are passed on to them for such great service.
- 521charlesa (10/5): Fabulous long weekend in the Lake District - A fantastic stay in an amazing hotel. Located on Bassenthwaite Lake, amazing grounds, great room and service from all the staff. The spa is lovely and has everything you need to relax and unwind after a long walk.
- annmariem422 (10/5): A beautiful hotel with exceptional staff - We've just spent 2 wonderful nights here in a garden suite. The hotel is beautiful, stylishly decorated and our room exceptional. There were blankets for lounging on the sofa & comfortable chairs for our balcony space.
The grounds were perfect for little walks with our elderly dog & peaceful to enjoy.
The staff made the hotel something special, every single person had pleasant conversation, couldn't do enough for us & were exceptionally kind to our dog.
Food & drinks were great, particularly the Grill restaurant & the afternoon tea.
The spa is very good, all the facilities you need and plenty of seating for lounging. I had a head spa treatment which was very relaxing.
All in all we cannot recommend a stat here enough, the views and atmosphere make for a very special stay. Thank you to all the staff.
- Philip (10/5): Excellent service - Location Nothing
- Martin (10/5): -
- Carl (9/5): Perfect - Amazing setting and very comfy bed. Some of the tiling etc. Was a little tired around the spa indoor hot tub, I am splitting hairs to some extent but this would be even more perfect if this was re-done.
- Jonathan (10/5): Just perfect. - Everything, Location, Excellent food, spa facilities, exceptionally clean, beautiful room.

- helenr895 (10/5): Early Wedding Anniversary - Yet again, another fabulous Sunday lunch, lovely to see Aleseigh, who always has a smile and conversation with us.
Also the attentive restaurant staff and the amazing 3 course meal.
Again, Armathwaite Hallyou has excelled.
- lynn (8/5): Fantastic location, suite and Spa - Fantastic location, great suite and spa. Breakfast quality really poor.
- PETER (10/5): -
- nicolagC9896KH (10/5): Perfect Lake District Wedding Venue – Beautiful Setting, Fantastic Food and Wonderful Staff - We held our wedding party at Armathwaite Hall and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The location is stunning and provided such a beautiful setting for our celebration. Many of our guests commented on how lovely the venue and surrounding grounds were, and it really made the day feel special.
The food was exceptional and received so many compliments from our guests. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with great care. It was a real highlight of the day.
A special thank you also has to go to Lynsey our wedding co-ordinator, who was fantastic to work with throughout the planning process and on the day itself. She was incredibly helpful, organised and supportive, and made everything feel effortless. Having someone so experienced and attentive coordinating things made a huge difference and allowed us to relax and enjoy the celebration.
Armathwaite Hall is a truly wonderful place for a wedding or special event and we feel very lucky to have celebrated there. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with fantastic food and a brilliant team.
- Martyn (10/5): Perfect Big Birthday treat - The room was fantastic, the first time we have stayed in the 'new' section, but The Loft room was a treat. The spa was excellent, the staff were friendly and attentive without being over zealous.
Overall the hotel was magnificent, a perfect way to celebrate a 'big' birthday, and we will certainly be returning soon. I can't think of one thing. Sorry!
- 991martynw (10/5): Excellent for dinner with friends - Fantastic meal out with my wife for her pre-60th birthday party, and the staff and meal were excellent.
- juliepA559VL (10/5): Gorgeous place for a special occasion short stay - Gorgeous place for a special occasion short stay. Great clean rooms, tasty food, beautiful grounds and relaxing spa 🧖♀️ all staff were attentive and polite. I will definitely be back for another visit
- Thomas (9/5): Fantastic stay, look forward to returning in the future - Garden suite room was excellent, food at all restaurants was top notch. Spa was fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyable. Bar areas and lounges for sitting and relaxing were all lovely
- christopherdI1710GM (10/5): Three Day vacation - Our last visit was in 2018. This time we booked a studio suite, and had room 135 which was large, comfortable and clean with an excellent bathroom. The views from the room were amazing.
We ate in the Grill on the first night and would say it was ok, nothing special. We then had 2 nights in the main dining room which was outstanding. The staff throughout the hotel were helpful and professional. Special mention for the staff in the main bar and Lake View dining room.
Overall a superb stay and we hope to return next year.

- M7751MPhelenr (10/5): Another fabulous return visit. - This was my third visit to this outstanding hotel. The building itself is historic and beautiful. We stayed in one of the garden suites with a patio area and gorgeous views down to the lake. Four things make this hotel really special -
1. The setting, looking down over Bassenthwaite Lake, is simply stunning.
2. The quality and variety of food available at all three restaurants is outstanding. The Indian restaurant, Zaika, is new and an excellent addition to culinary options at Armathwaite.
3. The spa area is lovely. Unlike many Lakeland hotels, there is no need to pay extra or book ahead to use the general spa facilities, as long as you are a resident (treatments generally need to be booked in advance). The outdoor heated bubble pool with views over the fells, woods and the lake is an outstanding feature of the spa.
4. The staff, without exception, are a credit to the hotel and make every stay feel special.

- DizzyDarling (10/5): Stunning hotel, beautiful spa. Great location, with friendly staff. Dog friendly too! - The room was fabulous, clean and very comfortable; The food was amazing - portions small, but filling. The spa is stunning - one of the best massage treatments I've ever had. Dog friendly too. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Food portion sizes not great - breakfast in particular. We ate at the Indian restaurant, again, food portions were disappointing, considering the cost of the meals.
- JonathanT428 (10/5): Excellent Indian Restaurant! Staff member Alwid was an absolute star! - This is our 3rd time we have come to Armathwaite Hall, it is our 'go to' if you are looking for relaxation, top class customer service and a real treat! We were pleased to see they have a new Indian Restaurant which was recommended to us by reception staff on our arrival. The reception is always warm, friendly and they really set the tone for the stay - professional, courteous and nothing is too much trouble. The reception staff are really helpful and engage with guests - we were always greeted with pleasantries and they had good local knowledge of the area.
Our room was superb - clean, warm and well stocked. The room had tea/coffee making facilities, bottled water and other small treats. I was glad to see the room contained an iron and ironing board too.
The food is excellent, although I was sad to see Pizza was not on the menu at the grill - I loved a pizza at lunch time when I previously stayed! The food in the grill is excellent and there is a lovely Asian staff member who is front of house and really looks after you.
I had the best ever curry in my life at the Indian Restaurant. I think this will explode as a curry venue, the food is amazing. Make staff member (Alwid) really looked after us - such a lovely man, humourous, polite and just excelled at customer service. All the fellow guests we spoke to commented on the quality of the food and ambience of the place.
We stayed 3 nights and we will be booking again in May for another 2 nights as a birthday treat. I just wish I didn't have to travel 2 hours to get there from Lancashire!
Thank you Armathwaite, we had a lovely mini-moon and everything was perfect.
- lolbirch (10/5): Truly exceptional stay at Armathwaite, planning to move in!!! 😂🙏 - From the moment we drove up the sweeping entrance, the historic Armathwaite Hall took our breath away. Its grandeur and sense of history set the perfect tone for what became an unforgettable stay.
Outstanding Staff & Service -
Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and professional, but a special mention must go to Alwin in the restaurants. His kindness, attention to detail, humoue and genuine care made every dining experience feel special. He is an absolute credit to the Hall.
Fantastic Dining Options -
We loved having three restaurants to choose from, each offering something different. No matter where we ate, the food was exceptional and the service faultless. Every meal felt beautifully prepared and thoughtfully presented.
Incredible Spa Experience -
The spa facilities were stunning, and having unlimited access was a real luxury. Relaxing in the outdoor hydrotherapy pool while taking in the spectacular views of the fells was a highlight of our trip.
Beautiful Grounds & Garden Suite -
The grounds are simply gorgeous. We enjoyed wandering through the gardens and taking the peaceful walk down to the lake.
Our Garden Suite was beautifully designed, spacious, and incredibly comfortable — clearly created with relaxation in mind.
Bonus: Wildlife Park Next Door
Just a five‑minute walk away is the fabulous Lake District Wildlife Park, which is absolutely worth a visit and added a lovely extra dimension to our stay.
Overall, Armathwaite Hall & Spa combines historic charm, exceptional service, outstanding dining, and world‑class spa facilities in one breathtaking setting. We left feeling relaxed, cared for, and already planning our return.
We can't thank you enough for making my birthday trip so beautiful.
- Laal_bod68 (10/5): The Grill - The food was delicious well portioned and nicely presented. Guru and his team were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Balanced the attention we needed with time to enjoy the food.
- Alison (9/5): -
- Inspire43028403663 (10/5): 5 star - Fabulous hotel and spa, highly recommend. The staff, facilities and location are superb. The food is excellent.
- Flash--Gordon081958 (10/5): Excellent location and comfortable - There are three resturants within the hotel, a bistro, Fine dinning and Indian. They are all good in their own way.
Bistro is laid back, good food selection and service.
The fine dining says it all.
The Indian, Zaika was very good. We had mild curries so food flavour wasn't over powered by spiciness. The food was well presented and flavoursome. We aren't Indian food conisours but we thought the food was exceptional along with the service by Alwis and his team.
The bar area is set over a number of rooms eith open fires. Good selection of drinks. Drinks came with nuts & olives.
The hotel is old worldly and an exceptionally quiet spot with great views. Our room, No. 137 was well sized with shower, sunken bath, a deck and great views over the lake to the mountains.
Breakfast was included and had a good selection of food. The kippers were great.
- Judith (10/5): Fantastic birthday weekend, everything was perfect - Beautiful location, gorgeous hotel and love the hotel cat
. The facilities are superb and the food is delicious. Highly recommend. Nothin
- Green75 (10/5): New Indian restaurant Zaika - We went to the new Indian restaurant Zaika. The food was very good and we were able to have ours mild which made it perfect for us. The 2 desserts we picked were something we had never had before and were both excellent.
Emily was very efficient and friendly throughout the evening.
The room has been tastefully decorated while still keeping the Armathwaite feel.
- adnan1411 (10/5): Hidden Indian inspired restaurant in a great ambiance - Today we had the pleasure of dining at the Indian-inspired restaurant at Amrawaithe Hotel & Spa, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Alwin, whose genuine hospitality set the tone for the entire evening.
Each dish beautifully presented and bursting with authentic, rich flavors - Prawn Moilee was truly delicious with coconut milk. A special mention to Chef Albin , whose attention to detail and passion for Indian cuisine.
Teena, our server, was attentive without being intrusive, offering thoughtful recommendations that elevated our meal even further in a relaxing and luxurious ambience.
I ll definitely be returning !!!
- rajajib (10/5): Excellent service and food - I had a fantastic experience .The food was absolutely delicious and truly authentic Indian cuisine- the king prwan moilee is amazing. The service was excellent a big thank you to Alwin, Teena, and Chef Albin for making me feel at home. Their hospitality really made my visit special. I thoroughly enjoyed everything and would definitely recommend this place.
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Brenda (10/5): - The location, ambiance, staff - a beautiful well run stately home. The spa was superb - one of the best I have ever been in. Loved the outside pool. Lovely relaxing facial from therapist Timmi. Nothing, really. A perfect stay
- julieaQ699DH (10/5): Excellent luxury. Fantastic staff. Highly recommend. - Luxury 3 night stay. Beautiful historic building. The spa is brilliant. Very large so plenty space for all visitors in the pool, jacuzzis, salt room, sauna etc. Outside pool is now much larger and views are amazing. Hotel exceptionally clean and room cleaned and everything replenished daily- room 164 is fabulous! All staff are so friendly and helpful which is great as travelled with my elderly mother- who visits regularly as place and staff exceptional. Extra praise for Joanne who always looks after my mum and newer member Kez as they are huge assets to the place and really make your stay more special and luxurious. We will be back. In fact my mum has booked in next month. Hugely recommend this place to stay or for food.
- Andy (10/5): -
- Pioneer559559 (10/5): Great atmosphere & service with tasty authentic Indian food. - Great atmosphere & tasty authentic food at Zaika Indian restaurant. Service was excellent, nice & relaxed - no rushing.
Alwin was very helpful & professional.
- Mark (9/5): A wonderful relaxing 2 day stay - The old part of the hotel is a magnificent building steeped in history and views that are amazing. The only poor observation I could say about our stay is the toast at breakfast was always cold and bread was poor quality. Maybe if they had a toaster near the buffet section for people to do there own would be a better option.
- Emma-Louise (10/5): Relaxing stay, the building and surroundings are just amazing, staff are friendly and very welcoming and go above and be - Everything The cat poo on the stairs from the resident cat.
- alexgY7966FN (10/5): Fantastic Indian experience - Fantastic experience in zaika, brilliant food and brilliant service from Alwin! We will definitely be back
The butter naan is incredible, we have been looking for some this good since visiting India

- 622ob (10/5): Zaika restaurant was amazing - The Indian restaurant- Zaika - was incredible, amazing food and amazing service from our waiter Alwin! - ftp2018 (10/5): Great dining experience! - Zaika restaurant … this is a wonderful dining experience … delicious dishes and excellent friendly service from Alwin and the other members of the team. Flavoursome food without excessive heat! Highly recommended and a great addition to the two other restaurants at the hotel.

- Q7945HBrebeccap (10/5): Must visit - Wow. Such a beautiful hotel. We was made incredibly welcome from the second we arrived. The spa was clean and spacious, the glass of fizz was a bonus. Due to a fault unfortunately we couldn’t use the infinity pool but it looked amazing.
The attention to detail in each individual room was incredible, such beautiful original decor with modern twists.
The staff were so helpful and friendly especially in the grill and cocktail bar, where we sampled a delicious selection of cocktails. The steak was cooked to perfection and the gentleman who served us went out of his way to make our evening special.
Amazing relaxing experience from start to finish would 100% recommend and would return in a heartbeat.
xx
- jodiecX4803BE (10/5): Lovely hotel and the most welcoming stafF - I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel. The atmosphere was lovely and everything was very clean and well looked after. What really made the experience special was the staff – everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming.
A special mention to our waiter, Guru, who was one of the most down-to-earth and genuinely friendly people we met during our stay. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and always greeted us with a smile. Service like that really makes a difference.
Thank you to Guru and the whole team for making our stay so enjoyable. We will definitely be back! 😊✨
- Sunshine303047 (10/5): One night visit - Excellent service very pleasant view. Spa experience unbelievable especially sitting in the infinity pool drinking prosecco watching the rabbits and squirrels
- siano347 (10/5): Grill Lunch highly recommended. Lovely staff and very tasty food. - Great service - friendly and efficient. The food in the grill was very good value for money as well as delicious.
- Andrew (10/5): Best place I know for upmarket, but fairly expensive stay. - Great food, great ambience. Spa lovely. Grounds superb. Bedroom could do with modernisation (en-suite bathroom fine)
- Amigolovelyhair (10/5): Perfect - Excellent visit. Excellent room and views. Food was great. No complaints. Stayed here many times. This visit was particularly great. Weather was brilliant. Room was superb ( a free upgrade) . Dining room had new furniture in, which was beautiful.
- emmapL117SM (10/5): Fantastic spa stay - We’ve just come back from a one night stay. We absolutely loved the hotel - our garden suite was lovely, the spa was fab and our dinner in the grill and drinks in the bar were all great. You also have unlimited access to the spa - we found when looking a lot of the hotels you had a two hour slot. What really made our trip was the staff. Everyone was friendly, happy and really helpful. I’ve got to mention Guru - if you see this Guru thank you for your warmth and positivity. I’m the lady with the very tall partner! ! You and your colleagues really made our stay. Thank you,
- docmartincumbria (10/5): Sunday lunch - Visited the Grill steak & seafood restaurant at Armathwaite Hall for Sunday lunch , my wife had the braised beef dinner and I had the brisket of beef , both meals were excellent and very well presented . The service was fantastic, thanks to Guru for looking after us . We will be returning again soon .
- helenj572 (10/5): Best say ever at Armathwaite Hall Hotel - Huge congratulations to General Manager Simon on the fantastic job you’re doing at Armathwaite. Together with Joe Fernandez, Deputy GM, Alwen and the rest of the fabulous staff at Armathwaite, we’ve had the best short break we’ve ever had here - and we’ve been coming for over 20 years.
The greeting we had from Carolyn on arrival, our impeccable favourite room all add to the amazing experience but what we have to highlight is the most fabulous food in the restaurant - which in our view is Michelin star equivalent.

- Niamh (10/5): - The Garden Suite was amazing, so spacious and luxurious and we were welcomed with a glass of sparkling rosé. We also had a fabulous meal on the main restaurant and the staff were so kind!
It was great that we had unconditional use of the spa during our stay also.

- leannej558 (10/5): Birthday - Came to the hotel and spa as a birthday treat for my husband ! Everything about this place is magical and the service is outstanding ! We are not “upper class” people but was made to feel at home and very welcomed.
We went to the grill for his birthday tea and all the staff - Guru, Alwin, Vasi and Kez were amazing with Guru making sure we had a lovely meal and wishing my husband a happy birthday with recommendations of the best desert we have ever had !!
On leaving I bought my best friend some vouchers for her birthday and hope to see all the staff again on our return !!
Thank you for making his birthday so special xx
- mlp2102 (10/5): Relaxing break - Short break. From arrival to departure we felt well cared for. All staff very attentive and polite.
We used the spa facilities for over 4 hours. The outside area is beautiful- we watched the rabbits on the lawn until sunset. It wasn’t over crowded so we made use of all the steam and sauna rooms and everything was clean and well cared for.
We didn’t use the restaurant on this occasion ( an excuse to return?).
Breakfast was served excellent with everything we needed. We sat in the conservatory enjoying the lake views.
We visited the wildlife park before we went home- a simple walk across the grounds at front of hotel.
Will return I’m sure.
Thank you.

- sarahvB9791CR (4/5): Very judgmental - On arrival to the area staying in a local establishment we wanted to book a meal out in the evening at the restaurant. When asking the front of house his if there was availability she was very rude am said “well noo we are very busy tonight and you are not a guest at the hotel”. We asked if there was any availability and she said no - I said Thankyou - I then stood aside and looked at the menu and another woman walked in very well spoken - “do you have a table tonight please” - the same lady said yes off course what time? Well I might have been in my walking gear, however to be treated in this way is highly judgemental sorry I will
Not be dining here!
- N3341VUamberl (10/5): Birthday at The Grill - Guru and Sandor are lovely servers, they made it an amazing experience for my Mum’s birthday, it was very special. Lovely food and atmosphere as well!
- michellerX4945GR (10/5): Love this place - I have stayed here so many times and this place has never failed to make me feel like I’m at home, the staff make you feel like your the only person who matters, and it’s a lovely personal touch. reception staff, cleaning service to Guru in the Grill, who never fails to give his great knowledge in what wine goes with the food we have chosen. And his desert advice is great.

- lisacU1811FK (10/5): Will be returning very soon!! - From the moment we arrived at Armathwaite Hotel & Spa, everything was just lovely. It’s a beautiful old hotel with so much character, plenty of car parking, and a really easy check-in which set the tone straight away.
We stayed in an absolutely massive suite — even a TV in the bathroom! We took our two dogs and were so impressed by how dog-friendly the hotel is. There were dog beds, treats, and even poo bags provided, which was a really thoughtful touch.
We ate in the Grill Restaurant and the food came out very quickly, was reasonably priced, and really tasty. We loved the décor throughout the hotel — elegant but still warm and welcoming.
The spa was honestly one of the best we’ve ever been to. We absolutely loved it, especially the infinity pool, which was our favourite. We enjoyed it so much we went back again the next morning. Pure relaxation.
The hotel staff couldn’t do enough for you — every single person was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We also played snooker in the billiard room which we really enjoyed.
We loved everything about this hotel and will definitely be returning very soon. The walk down to the lake was beautiful, the dogs had plenty of space to run and explore, and the gardens were immaculately kept. We can’t wait to come back!

- V8959FJsusanw (2/5): THE WORST SPA DAY EVER.... DONT GO - Monday 29 January 2026
I booked a spa day for my family. 6 adults. What a complete and utter waste of money.....£180 x 6
from the moment we arrived we were herded round like sheep. told to wait upstairs for robes for 45 minutes until our treatment was ready. we werent allowed in the pool or gym........the spa changing rooms were freezing, the floor was so cold - we asked for slippers we were told to pay £3 per pair. Treatment rooms were also freezing. nothing about the 6 treatments was good. No one showed us around the spa facility, where to go, what to do. all the staff were running round like headless chickens.
we had to discover the amenities ourselves. the gym was so cold, we had to put clothes on to keep warm. it was empty - that says it all
An elderly gentleman had fallen on the VERY slippery floor. his family were not given somewhere private to sit and discuss his condition - they were left standing in a cold conservatory for 30 minutes or so giving the medics minute by minute diagnoses and directions to the hotel....
There was no where to sit around the pool so the staff asked people that were already settled, to get up and move chairs, we were then allocated 3 chairs that were soaking with wet towels.
The food in the brasserie was terrible. think the chef had gone home, def not cooked by a competent chef. had to send some of the food back.
one of my children resembled it to a council swimming pool with a few extra chairs.
my recommendation is not to go her. If you do.... watch the slippery floor, dont have a treatment and dont eat there.
i have received a message from the hotel manager with a very derisory offer of £20 per head, an admission that the facilities and service was poor and an apology, but given that we spent over £1300 i dont think £120 cuts it.
dont go!!!!

- tewcottage (10/5): Golden Wedding stay - My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Armathwaite Hall at the beginning of January; a stay which our sons had bought for us as a celebration of our Golden Wedding.
Everything was first class. All of the staff were extremely helpful and enthusiastic, and nothing was too much trouble for them.
We really enjoyed the spa pool, sauna and steam rooms, which were in immaculate condition.
The food, drink and service in The Grill were excellent, with a good range of choices, as was breakfast in the dining room
We were fortunate to have the Hartley Tower Studio for our stay. The room was outstanding and the views of the lake were exceptional.
We also took advantage of the Lake District Wildlife Park. All the staff were really knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their work. Well worth a visit.
We very much look forward to staying with you again.
