- Bart (10/5): wonderfull stay - the location is beautiful
you can have a walk at the dogs or horses or winefield, very relaxing
beautiful well maintained rooms

the staff is great
- Fatima (9/5): - Cómodo e silencioso. Quarto espaçoso e decoração discreta e elegante. Funcionários muito simpáticos e prestáveis. A área envolvente é muito bonita. O pequeno almoço pode melhorar.
- Eckart (9/5): An enjoyable stay in a beautiful part of Portugal - A beautiful boutique hotel. Very nice rooms, polite and helpful staff. Good and rich breakfast The restaurant is not up to standard. The menu is ambitious, the delivery is less than that.
- Joao (9/5): Very welcoming staff, peaceful location, very comfortable room - Lovely property, especially for those interested in horses, dogs and wine. Exceptionally friendly staff. Good breakfast and restaurant. Great massage therapist. Large room, peaceful location. Outdoor pool although we didn't use it (still too cold outside in early May). Free parking in front of the hotel. You do need a car to get there. The bathroom in the room did not offer much privacy, with glass window to the room that could not be covered. The breakfast was good but somewhat limited in choice.

- ana marta (10/5): - Localização perfeita. Ótimo para descansar e passar um fim de semana sossegado em harmonia com a natureza. Pequeno almoço muito bom.
Animais muito amigáveis e todo staff muito atencioso.

- Joseph (10/5): A welcome oasis of calm on a busy road trip - Highly Recommended! - We stayed at Madre de Água for two nights in the middle of our 10 day road trip around the northern half of Portugal.
It was the perfect place to relax for a couple of days with lots of things to do without using the car.
All the staff were amazing - especially Pedro who helped us arrange the various activities - dinner on our balcony, a picnic in the olive groves, horse riding around the farm and a tasting of their amazing wines before dinner.
A very enjoyable and relaxing stay - we hope to return.
Highly recommended! We would recommend booking activities in advance as some have limited availability.
- Danilo (8/5): -
- Joanna (10/5): - Staff was very nice, overall great place to stay, the property is beautiful and everyone is very helpful
- Peter Tonti (10/5): -
- Marina (10/5): -
- Carolina (10/5): - Atendimento primordial. Todos, inclusive os bichos, eram simpáticos, prestativos e atenciosos. Refeições no Hotel maravilhosas, paz e tranquilidade no local para dormir e aproveitar.
- Olaf (9/5): A place to relax - We had two days of a quiet and relaxing time at Madre de Água. We were very happy with both, the comfortable room and the breakfast. We also enjoyed dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.
- Stephen (10/5): -
- Vladimir (10/5): More than worth it, might stay here once more at different time, to catch some seasonal activities. - Fantastic conditions, property, staff and food, everything was top notch!
Cats, dogs and horses make a nice company, too. On the final night, I seem to have spent too long in the pool (my bad) and got my eyes irritated. No long running consequences, a night of sleep amended it. Might mind my personal sensitivity to the pool chemicals next time.
- Valentim (10/5): - Tudo.
- R (8/5): - Super vriendelijk personeel waarvoor geen vraag teveel was. Fijne kamer (suite). Het zwembad zag er ook prettig uit, maar hebben we niet gebruikt omdat het daarvoor voor ons niet warm genoeg was. Vervang het glas tussen de slaapkamer en de badkamer door satijn glas om inkijk te voorkomen.
- Dalila (10/5): - Personnel tres accueillant
Diner delicieux
Rien a redire 👍
- Diogo (10/5): Óptimo sítio para relaxar e explorar - Ambiente e organização da quinta Nada
- Nick (10/5): In the area . Stay here - A fabulously relaxing hotel in a beautiful rural setting.
The hotel is surrounded by a vineyard and horse riding is available onsite. If you don’t ride like us then enjoy the pool and the great walking trails locally. You can also do a wine and or a cheese tasting
The wine in the restaurant is very good and you can also buy it by the case to take home with you. We came back for our second visit just so we could do this.
The staff are very welcoming, helpful and kind.
If you want a relaxing break in a sophisticated but relaxed hotel stay here.

- Iryna (10/5): Special place - Great location, the vineyards, greenery, horses, cats, dogs. Loved the hotel, it's new, clean, has special ambience and atmosphere. Good food, good wine. Loved everything.
- Patrick (10/5): Amazing stay in this beautiful hotel - Everything was perfect, we loved this amazing passion project hotel built inside a beautiful horse farm. We were very well taken care of by the best team.
- Dana (10/5): A unique place where life slows down and you can really relax into nature. - This place is super special. It is in a very rural area and I would recommend having a car. If you need endless entertainment, this is not the place for you. If you like to watch horses roam in an open field, eat delicious local food, enjoy great hospitality and wine...then this might be your jam. I will go back. Bring good books to read and a sunhat.
- paulasJ7750NR (10/5): Lovely accomodatons! - Absolutely beautiful accommodations. The surrounding grounds and vineyard are lovely. The staff very helpful. Breakfast was bountiful and delicious. We also ate dinner 2x in their restaurant, and it too was superb! This hotel was one of my top favorites while traveling for 3 weeks through Portugal. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller and quiet place to stay!
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful, relaxed stay. Pool great, balcony great...staff very professional and attentive.
The room was immaculate, the bed/bedding was super comfy.
Ate at the establishment which was very nice.
Stayed one night prior to a glorious Serre Estrella drive. That we only had the one night.
- John (9/5): Wonderful, peaceful property, great base for exploring Serra da Estrela - Great staff, Really top-notch dinners at the on-site restaurant. very unique setting and property as described. We really enjoyed walking the vineyards and into the small village adjoining. Breakfast does not start till 9:00, really too late if you have a full day planned, hopefully they will move start time to 8:00 or earlier.
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional - Location very very calm have horse, dogs , cats
- Bartosz (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and a very helpful staff including two cats. Even if we were there for less than 24hrs they managed everything we needed anted to try and see.
- Marcelo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gonçalo (10/5): Perfect. - Very friendly and careful staff. Wonderful location.
- Alonso (9/5): Superb - The horses experience and the bed. Very comfortable. The room overall is really good.
- Ricardo (9/5): Great place to rest and recharge batteries - Room. bed and comfort Maybe the breakfast could have more varieties of food (bacon, cakes, etc).
- Miguel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Blissful peaceful stay - Uniquely peaceful, gorgeous horses and vineyards outside, comfortable decor and sweet cats inside. Great restaurant and very friendly, kind, thoughtful staff.
- chocrevell (10/5): Peace and quiet in the country - After a week of coastal towns, it was nice to be in the quiet of Madre de Agua. Four friends on this visit and there was something for everyone--hiking, wine-tasting, watching the sunset from your own balcony. I loved visiting the stable and I even got a horseback ride through the vineyard. The rooms were pleasant, the common area was very inviting (I loved the background music) and the staff were so helpful. I look forward to another visit.
- Shelly (10/5): Great place to relax! - Lovely hotel with a nice room on the perfect location. We did the farm tour and wine tasting, this was very nice and would recommend! Also the breakfast with local products was very good!
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Ashton (10/5): Exceptional - After traveling around Portugal for a few days this was the perfect spot to rest and relax for a night. The staff was wonderful, friendly, and very accommodating. The views from the hotel and the rooms are spectacular. The restaurant was great for a dinner in and breakfast had many yummy selections!
- Lizbet_13 (10/5): Came for the dressage, pleasantly surprised by the food, wine and staff! - While I chose MdA primarily for the opportunity to ride Lusitano in dressage, my husband (not an equestrian!) and I enjoyed ourselves much, much more than we dreamed. First, the Lusitanos and the trainer, Nuno, are truly remarkable. Not only I was able to engage in Grand Prix dressage, the mounts were charmers, including a delicious stallion I had the honor of riding. Second, the food at the farm is all farm-to-table, much of it grown or produced right there, including the delicious balsamic vinegar, the zucchini jam, very worthy wines, sheep’s cheeses and the olive oil! If dressage or trail riding is not your thing, a short river up the road will take you into one of Portugal’s national parks, where the staff at the MdA can recommend hikes, drives or bicycle rides to please any fitness capability, including walks from the front door! Third (and definitely not least), the staff at the MdA is exceptional. They were always there with a helping hand, a warm smile or a recommendation, including wine & cheese tastings.
Extras — If you’re an animal lover, there are more than 100 rescue dogs on site, a few of which can be found hanging around the hotel, with temperaments as sweet as pie. In addition there are two resident cats who are happy to purr you to sleep in one of the comfy reading chairs in the original, stone “living room.” The rooms are spacious and nicely appointed, with lovely views of the pool and beyond to the mares’ pastures.
I didn’t know what to expect, and I could not have been more pleased with the quality of the food, the accommodations, and the staff.
- Cíntia (8/5): Very good -
- Ann (8/5): Wonderful experience, beautiful views, clean room, good value. - Loved it all - perhaps was hoping for more local food for breakfast/ dinner but all in all it was beautiful. Especially loved the rooms, the views from the room, and gorgeous winery views all around. Wish the breakfast was more focused on local.
- Nick (10/5): - Really relaxing and beautiful place to stay
- Sofia (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay, beautifully designed and comfortable rooms. Staff was impeccable and really helpful. Breakfast was good as well. Restaurant food was a bit bland and would not recommend for the price.
- Thomas (9/5): Superb - Was a ver nice holiday, very nice staff and incredibly clean everywhere. Create some shadow on the baconys
Some more variety at the breakfast (egg, joghurt etc.)
- maxnS786CD (10/5): Would book again - this hotel was a good location for our wine trip though DAO wine area. Very friendly reception, clean room with a nice view to the horse paddock and vineyard. Good breakfast but dinner was a bit below our expectations, would rate with 8/10. But with a good glas of wine in front of the open fire place in the evening we had a nice and romantic evening.
Location is a bit off the main road and grocery shop is a short drive away.
Would book again.
- Robert (10/5): A Lovely Stay - Quiet location in lovely countryside. Excellent rooms and a very nice chill area around the pool.
The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. A special mention for Angela who looked aftet us very well.
- Lucas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): A great vibe within a hotel which is part of an agriturismo setting. - A very special place within an agriturismo setting. The staff were very welcoming and seemed to be passionate about the hotel and what it stood for - local produce, its own wines and nuts, the way it sat within the nature around it. On my wish list would be that they had a comfortable area outside to enjoy and aperitif before dinner.
- davidgY9138KK (10/5): Country Escape in a Modern Small Hotel - Madre de Agua is a small modern hotel on an active farm. The overall facility, rooms and staff are excellent. The restaurant is beautiful and although it was quiet the weekend we were there the food was excellent on both nights. The farm has vineyards, horses and a dog shelter. It is a perfect escape from busy city sightseeing.
- Brenton (8/5): Unique experience, great for a night. - Unique location and setting. Great for a remote overnight getaway.
- Duarte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susana (10/5): Very relaxing break! - Very friendly staff, confortable room and very nice common areas. The hotel is inserted in a beatiful proprety.
- Olena (10/5): Beautiful place to escape from the city - Beautiful place to escape from the city. Excellent design, qualified stuff, everything was great A window between the bathroom and bedroom made us feel weird)))) You really should do something with that. We stayed with family, so we just made a lot of jokes about it. But a romantic stay for a couple might be really awkward. Consider using some matte film for that window, that should not be expensive solution.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location, comfortable large room and really nice people
- Manuel (10/5): The staff was perfect! - Architecture was perfect, solid buildings, design of room. The atmosphere was great. The staff was excellent, friendly, sincere, welcoming, and always willing to help. Seeing the beautiful horses galloping next to the room was truly amazing. Breakfast in the dining room was filled with fresh fruits from the farm and great tasting breads. Dinner was amazing with terrific wines from the farm both full bodied and light. Even the vegetarian options were perfect. Overall there wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasa (10/5): Exceptional - This is small family hotel with great pool and very good vine and food. If you need anything more for breakfast, they serve you. Staff is also great. On our trip over Portugal we have stayed in five 4 star hotels (mostly small like this) and this was the best.
- Eduarda (10/5): - Beautiful and tranquil property! Beautiful sunsets and vineyards all around. The rooms are gorgeous and very clean. Great experience all around.
