Guest Reviews
- David (2/5): Anyone Home - Couldn't find the office to book in and no one in the complex at all. Address was right, but the lights were out. Stayed at another location that cost more than plan that night. Had a looked at this place in the daylight while moving on. It was the same in the daylight as it was at night and looked closed. Have photos, but no time to post them.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner, Rich, could not have been more welcoming. The property was very clean.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice last minute stay - Room was clean and had slight renovations. Host was amazing. Needs a bathroom renovation and some new bedding.
- Amber (10/5): - So perfect! The rooms are cozy and the new beds are heaven to sleep on. I loved all of the history! We were given great information for activities and food in the surrounding area. Mix it all together with beautiful weather and I really didn’t want to leave! The table area was our only challenge as it’s really tight to get in and out of as a grown adult but it wouldn’t be a deterrent since there is a beautiful pavilion that you can eat at outside.
- Katrina (10/5): Great Historic Motel on the Morher Road - The night we were supposed to check in we were running late which meant we wouldn’t get there until after office hours. I called the motel and talked to Rich who was very accommodating. When we arrived at 11:30pm he was there and got us checked in. He was a great host. Made us feel like we were actual guests at someone’s home. The motel was really cute. It was like stepping back in time. I studied hotel/restaurant management so it was really fun staying in the first motel built on Route 66 in Williams and knowing the history of motels. Since it’s also a historic building it’s being kept as authentic as it can be. The beds were really comfy too. Better then some hotels I’ve stayed at. The room was really clean and it was nice having a fridge and microwave I would highly recommend staying here if you want to have a Route 66 experience. Additionally, if you book a motel, especially a historic motel, do not expect to have the luxuries of a hotel like an ice machine or room service. That’s what keeps motels like this quant.
- Gil (2/5): Grand Motel - The day we got there for check in nobody was there. I had to call the motel and then he shows up late. During the check in process he spoke very harshly to an elderly couple who decided not to stay there. We decided to check in to the hotel next door as well, which was great. My wife called to cancel the reservation through Expedia and the representative got a hold of him and he was rude to her as well, before he hung up on her he stated we would still be charged. She attempted a second phone call and the same thing. So sad that hospitality and manners are not on this motels list. Please, please do not stay at this place. We travel to Williams AZ frequently and have never experienced anything like this. And to be fair because we didn't stay there I can't say anything about room cleanliness and room comfort
on the survey that's why it's marked ok.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No ice machine. No offer to eimburse for ice we had to buy.
- Blanca (4/5): - I think it was way overpriced for what it is.
- Jose (2/5): No heat - When I stayed in the room in the winter time the room heat did not work, nor did they have hot water to take a shower.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay place for one night stay - This hotel has been around since 1936 and the rooms are tiny. It’s a room better suited for a one nighter and we stayed three. The tiny bathroom didn’t have any electrical outlet, requiring a lot of creativity for styling your hair. Luckily I carry a power strip with me as the outlets in the room aren’t easy to reach. Other than the bed the only other furniture was a small table that held the lamp. The owner of the hotel offered many helpful tips for places to visit and eat in the area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Find somewhere else to stay. - one of the light fixtures broke while we were there, the heater didn't work all that great and it took more than 3 hours for the room to warm up...but without the blankets we brought for our road trip, we would have froze! Place is small, falling apart and not very nice at all. Sign said new beds...but there is no way our beds were new...they were so uncomfortable. The towels were not white - barely even an off white - almost looked dirty. Parking is poor, rooms are small and ours smelled of must/dirt. The owner did say they were remodeling...at the same time telling us we were given one of the rooms not remodeled...even though we saw NOT one other person there he said they were full????
- Susan (8/5): Give yourself a taste of history. - You are stepping back in history here. Depression era tiny rooms including a garage! We found it very interesting imagining the Okies who passed thru w all their belongings packed into a jalopy. Some Depression era pictures on the wall would be good.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Misleading pictures of hotel - The Expedia listing erroneously (?) shows the hotel next door (The Lodge), which has a nice log cabin look. The Grand Motel is not nearly as nice looking on the outside, which was disappointing. Don't make the mistake we made by trying to check into The Lodge, based on the Expedia pictures.
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. There is no place to put bathroom items in the bathroom, and the heating/AC unit did not seem to turn off until the temperature was very different than the setting on the thermostat.
- Michael (10/5): Authentic Motel on Route 66 - Authentic motel on Route 66. Comfortable beds, great service. Walking distance to everything.
- Risa (8/5): Grand Canyon - We really appreciated that the owner gave us tips on enjoying the town and the Grand Canyon.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was rated 2 stars, but I would only give it 1 star. It was very old, the room was very plain, but it did have a refrigerator and a good tv. We have stayed in several 2 stars before, and they were much nicer than this. The host was very helpful, though, so I'd give him 2 stars.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the owner was trying to clean it up. he even parked my motorcycle under a car port to keep it dry. not a fancy hotel but clean.
- Walkman (8/5): Close to where you need to be in Williams..... - Very nice and accommodating, excellent host! Nice charming older hotel, well kept and maintained,,,,,
- Lorraine (8/5): Quaint very old motel, beautifully renovated. - Basic accommodation but spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and very inexpensive. Host Rich is very attentive and does an excellent job of making sure you are comfortable - but don't take his advice on where to eat. The restaurant he recommended was expensive and terrible, and didn't honour the discount voucher he gave us.
- Romeo (10/5): Old West with modern accommodation - I was very impressed with the area knowledge of Rich, the owner. He was extremely professional, gregarious friendly, accommodating, and very helpful. What has been advertised is what you get and more. Whenever I go back to Grand Canyon, I will definitely stay there again.
- Teresa Logue (10/5): - It was a nostalgic hotel located walking distance from all the shops and restaurants in "old town" Williams. Had a great stay!
- Jessica Vaughan (8/5): Give It A Chance. Historical Building. - This building was the first ever hotel in Williams. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and has a plaque on the outside wall. It has a great story that's part of the town's history, so if you're looking for something experiential, you will definitely get that here. The owner is very personable and knows a lot about the town, the building, and the area. The hospitality is exceptional. The building is very old and may not have as many modern amenities or feel as a newer franchise, but they are in the process of making more improvements, and I found this hotel had a more local feel compared to the big chains that maybe can't keep up with their housekeeping like they should. The rooms are small, but that's part of its history. However, they are VERY clean and they're not all on top of each other, so the rooms are very quiet. Not even noise from the street. The bed was very comfortable and we slept good and hard. The bathroom is clean. I've stayed in more expensive hotels that weren't as clean. No mystery stains on the towels or linens. No unpleasant smells. No dust or dirt. Hardwood floors take the mystery out of carpet. I walked around barefoot and my feet stayed clean. Nice little patio in front of each room with chairs. Bedside charging outlets. LCD TV. Micro & Fridge. Beautiful lilac, snapdragon, & blue spruce flowerbeds. Minutes walk from shops & restaurants.
- Mei-Ling (10/5): Cute, comfortable, clean. - This is a historical motel in a historical town. The rooms are dated (as is expected for a historical motel), but they have new mattresses, clean wood floors, and a clean bathroom. Everything is walking distance in the cute town with food, shops, and entertainment. Best of all- the owner is super friendly and helpful. If you're visiting Flagstaff or Grand Canyon, this is a comfortable and affordable place to stay. Definitely recommend.
- Steven (6/5): An ok clean room in Williams AZ - Rooms were clean and beds were new and comfortable it was the first hotel built there and you can tell it could use some updates no shelves to put things on, no couch, table in kitchenette was way small not good for larger people to sit at the guy at the front desk was very friendly and very informative the continental breakfast was good we just needed a place to sleep and clean up and this place did the job overall our stay there was ok but i wouldn't pick it on purpose again. But it is a piece of history in Williams and the price was reasonable
- Traci (6/5): - Room was small but clean. There were no outlets in the bathroom and only one usable outlet in the bedroom. There was a small fridge and a microwave. It is in a great location within walking distance to restaurants, bars and gift shops.
- Chris (8/5): - Manager was very helpful and gave some great advice on Route 66. If you are traveling on Route 66 and are looking for a place to stay that preserves that nostalgic feel, this is the place. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't choose this one! - We drpve aesu and forfeited fhe fee
It smelled like it hadn't been open in months, the comforters were stained and dirty, there were no screens on the windows so we couldn't air it out. Worst mptel ive ever stppped at!
- Chris (10/5): A bit of History - A very fun hotel to stay in. It is a historical hotel in Williams, built in the 1930's. Clean, simple and enjoyable. The rooms still use a key to open, not a card, and the clerk walks you to your room instead of just telling what number you are in. Friendly staff with knowledge of the surrounding area. Willing to recommend somewhere to eat or places to stop and see.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was very friendly and had lots of wonderful restaurant recommendations.
- Christi (10/5): STAYING HERE FROM NOW ON - We love this place! The beds are new and very comfortable! (This is not the case at any of the other places we've stayed at in Williams). Very clean rooms. Friendly, homey atmosphere. One of our favorite parts was the private patio with table and chairs in front of each room. The owners are fabulous. Very helpful with lots of info on area attractions, restaurants, and history.
It's right on Route 66- walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and the nightly gunfight shows. Only a 5-10 minute drive to Bearizona, the Grand Canyon Deer Farm, and the Grand Canyon Railway.
This was the first motel in Williams and the new owners are doing a great job bringing it back to its glory days.
- N (8/5): Not your average "Motel" - I had high hopes but low expectations from this 1937 "vintage" motel. After reading previous reviews I decided to give it a try.
My kids and I were pleasantly surprised - our room was clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was much more than expected from this little place - bagels, muffins, toast, yogurt, coffee, juice and cereal. A giant improvement over the prepackaged sweet roll and apple we had from a competitor down the block on our last visit.
If you are expecting the Hilton, stop elsewhere. If you are ready to step back in time, have a good nights sleep and a good breakfast then this is your place!
- Edward (8/5): Historic Motel with lots of charm - Very clean and nice. A little expensive and limited parking but enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nice owner, Not Grand Motel. - Owner was very nice & helpful about area. However, the room should have cost half of the price. Very dated, poor condition. There was no outlet in bath to dry hair or outlet near a mirror. Only 3 prong plug for laptop was in kitchen. All outlets loose or burned. No dresser, desk or chest to put toiletries or clothes on. One folding chair. Kitchenette was a sink, microwave & mini fridge. Terrible drafts around door & Windows. The bed was good. Photos online totally misleading, not what you get.
- Alexis (8/5): Great Motel with Easy Access to Grand Canyon - Very good experience! The hotel manager was helpful in giving us tips, recommended restaurants and various route suggestions in preparing to head to the Grand Canyon. The motel was clean, the room was warm (we went in the winter months when it was freezing outside), and we were even offered continental breakfast. Overall, it was a really positive experience.
- Brian (10/5): Small, but clean and comfortable - The facilities was the first hotel built in Williams. It maintains the charm of the old structure, but with updates for comfort. The room was small, but the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom too was small, but good pressure and temperature on the water. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
- Nicole (10/5): Great Historic Location - Staff was amazing. They are refurbishing this historic motel & doing so while keeping all of the integrity of the 1930s style/set up & we LOVED it. The nastalgia was so worth it. We are so excited to see it come back to life & look forward to staying again during our next visit to Williams. <3
- Mary (4/5): Old and worn out - Very expensive for small rooms . Old and worn out, so much for nostalgic and very uncomfortable. The bed is right by the front door. I can hear people chatting on the porch.
- Douglas (2/5): Worst Experience of my life!! - This was possibly the worst experience from a booking I've experienced. The room was not clean, the toilet was plugged and owner (operator) was unaccommodating and rude.
- Retired (8/5): A Peace of History, Great People - We were lucky to find this hotel. It truly is a very special place to stay & represents some very special history in this area. The owner is Very Nice & goes the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable! WILL return in the future. My wife & I are on a three week tour of "the west" & this added to our trip.
- Senior (8/5): You can walk everywhere in town. - The owner is working on painting the outside of hotel. It will look nice when done. I felt safe in the area. Breakfast was basic, oatmeal, bangles, fruit. No problem for me.
A suggestion to owners, put a picture in the room to make it less bland. I enjoyed my stay in Williams.
- john (10/5): Location, Location, Location. - Clean room with a new bed. Couldn't ask for a better location, walk to every attraction in town. Rich, owner/manager was very friendly and informative not only about where to eat, must see attractions and night life hot spots but History and photos of Williams. Thanks Rich for making our stay in Williams AZ on Route 66 a memorable visit, also for letting us take two spots with are long bed extended cab Chevy. I'm guessing that in 1930, when the motel was built, vehicles were a bit smaller than our truck. We are looking forward to staying at your Motel again when you finish your renovation paint scheme as it was back in the Route 66 Motels HeyDay. We'll drive my wife's Camaro next tim to not hog up two spots. Oh yeah, Thanks for the 10% off food coupons, free continental breakfast and History lesson.
- lisa (8/5): Will be going back - My family's trip to Williams was saved by the owner. He had tons of useful information on the area, plus when my cars battery died he was very helpful in getting us on our way. The rooms have tons of historic charm, with modern amenities. Not to mention the rates are one of the best around.
- Joanne (8/5): Williams' historic hotel being restored - This is the oldest hotel in Williams and the owner is in the process of renovating and restoring it. Rooms are clean and modern, and you'll be near all the shopping and restaurants.
- Ryan (8/5): Don't be deterred by the unfinished work - Owner was engaging and informative. Room has one bed in each room - great with children - and has a little kitchen area and porch putsude. Bathroom was clean and felt new.
Breakfast was in the covered "old petrol station" area - different niw, obviously!
Only disadvantage was that we were charged for a crib and the owner was reluctant to provide sheets for it - not a problem in the end though.
- AJ (2/5): Got there to be told they had no vacancy!! - Arrived after a very long drive, with 2 young children to be told Expedia had over booked there were no rooms !!! After the initial shock I went on line and found another Motel, I called Expedia, if this ever happens they have a help team who will find you a room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great owner; hotel full of history - We had a great experience at the Grand Hotel! Great owner, lots of interesting history, and good breakfast. We're very happy with our stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very small rooms, no blankets or hair dryer. In the process of being renovated, but much work is needed.
- timothy (8/5): A charming diamond in the rough! - The Grand Motel is a fun experience. It is so different from the normal hotel that you feel both frustrated and enamored at the same time. It is a step back in time. For our family, it was a tight fit and the lack of desk or table space and counter space made things difficult at times, but the cute little kitchenette and layout were very charming. The owner is in the process of restoring the motel to its original glory so things are still in transition, but it will be fantastic when it is done. It was a bit more pricey than we expected for the level of comfort, but most of the places in town seem to be around the same. I recommend this motel to those who want to step back in time and don't mind sacrificing a bit of modern comfort to do so.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hometown home - Clean, comfort pleasant experience. Made us feel like time trave and spend nights at hometown home.
- Peter (8/5): - Nostalgic Route 66 motel with a great vibe. My room was very clean with new bed and linens. Current owner has worked hard to restore to its original glory. Parking space directly in front of room was very secure. Convenient location within walking distance of restaurants. Great stay if you're visiting the Grand Canyon or just passing through on Route 66.
- theresa m (8/5): - We were very pleased with the location and the cute retro look of the motel and complete reno of our room. The owner/manager was friendly and accommodating helping us plan our day trip to the Grand Canyon which saved us money and made our trip more enjoyable. This is the very first motel built in 1936 in Williams so it is a historical landmark and quite a treat for me. I was pleased at the price and will stay there again on my travels west.
- tim (8/5): Great little motel - Great little motel on old Route 66. Cute friendly town. Clean up to date rooms. Friendly helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome Motel - Nice rooms, friendly staff. Best hotel in Williams.
- louise (8/5): Nice historic hotel - We had a fabulas stay. The hotel is lovely. The beds so comfortable and clean. Hard wood floors which I loved. Outside is being painted which will make it perfect. The owner was friendly and super helpful and full of information on things to do, see, places to eat ect. Will be back for sure!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Historical hotel on Route 66 near the Grand Canyon - We loved staying at the Grand Motel in Williams, AZ. It has a charming historical feel and the owner was incredibly helpful. He reviewed the layout of the Grand Canyon with us, and gave great tips about how to see it efficiently and at it's best. He also went out of his way to be available when a piece of luggage that had been lost by our airline was delivered.
- gabor (8/5): fairly well maintained, clean, budget motel - decent hotel, nice authentic design, especially in the bathroom, historic feel, and the owner likes to stress it. 2 blocks from the center. The TV set is historic too along with the picture quality. No TV would be a better option. Nice but tight doors, hard to open. Forgettable breakfast.
- James (10/5): Great value, exceptional customer Service!! - Loved everything!! Exceptional value, clean and very well maintained, Rich (the owner) was attentive to each and every detail and was a delight to learn and to teach. He loves his location and so do we!! We will be back soon!
- K (6/5): - Old ac unit that would make loud noises, not much parking room and our towels were dirty.
- layne (6/5): Good Route 66 motel. - The room was quite small for the price. But it was clean. Really cramped parking area. I'm glad I drove my Little car. The Owner was very friendly and helpful. It's a great vintage Route 66 Motel. They don't do maid service for multiple nights, had to ask for dry towels.
- Keeghan (8/5): Comfortable and Cheap - When we arrived we were greeted by the new owner and had to wait a few minutes for him to get the room ready. He was very friendly and knowledgable about not just the Grand Canyon but other recreational areas. The room featured brand new bedding and was very comfortable. TV and rooms were small but not too small - plus you won't be cooped up in the room anyways! Meager breakfast was included - good place to stay on a budget! Williams is a cool place with plenty of shops and restaurants and it's only about 50 minutes driving from the Grand Canyon. The motel is the oldest in Williams. I would recommend this motel for those looking to experience the south rim without breaking the bank.
- Diane (6/5): Carpet was gross. Had blank ink on my sheets. - Outside of hotel in bad need of some paint! Price was way too high for this place. Would not stay here again.
- Jim (8/5): Non chain motel - The owner is in the process of restoring this historic hotel so it wouldn't be fair to nit pick about all the little things that aren't perfect yet. Especially since they didn't negatively affect my stay. The rooms were scrupulously clean and I liked the wood floors better than carpeting. The owner was very knowledgeable about the area and had tips, suggestions and coupons about places to go.
- Verified traveler (4/5): not good - room was small and over priced
I would not stay there again unless I had no other option
- Neda (8/5): Enjoyed our stay - We enjoyed our stay and extended it a night . Rich was very helpful and nice. He really opened communication and made us comfortable with asking questions and gave us information and maps regarding hikes, activities and places to eat .
There's a cute little area outside to eat your breakfast. There's bagels cream cheese and jams, coffee OJ, milk, cereal and fruit . The room/bathroom are very clean and remodeled even down to the flooring . The location is also nice, it's walking distance to the resturaunts and shops. Parking was also not an issue.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rich was very helpful during our stay.
- Peter (8/5): Excellent gateaway to the Grand Canyon - We a friend we stayed 3 nights at the Grand Motel.
the room were simple but very clean.
The double rooms are very convenient because they have 2 seperate bedrooms.
Within easy walking distance of all the restaurants and shops on 66 in Williams.
The breakfast is rather basic.
- Susan (10/5): Great original motel - Was a revisit to the area. This is an original Route 66 motel. Great. Owner is super helpful. You need to use these original motels or history will be lost.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice motel 1 hour from Grand Canyon - Cute little motel not far from the Grand Canyon. Rooms clean and beds comfortable! Bathroom was pretty small but functional. If traveling to Arizona in springtime be prepared for the cold! Heater helped but it was still a cold night. Perfect place to stay in the cute town of Williams!
- Edwin (8/5): - Great place, updated rooms in an historic Route 66 motel, conveniently located in Williams. Good value and short drive to the Grand Canyon. Host provided unmatched attentive service and travel tips that added a unique and personal touch to help us enjoy our day at the Grand Canyon. I especially appreciated that he stayed up to wait for us when we encountered some delays and even had the heater going in our room in advance of our arrival. The seating on the patios outside the room was particularly enjoyable.
- Joseph & Donna (10/5): Great place, good price, knowledgeable owner! - This is a very quaint hotel on Route 66! The owner, Rich, went beyond the call of duty to give us information about the Grand Canyon and other local and regional sights. This nostalgic hotel is priced right and Williams, AZ is a quaint place to visit.
- Nelda (8/5): Nice - Major remodel, but very comfortable. Don't try to check in until it is time to check in!! They say 3 o'clock check in, they mean 3 o'clock check in!! No early here!! Thanks for a nice stay.
- Tony (6/5): 1936 Vintage! - Basic but friendly.
- John (2/5): Worst motel ever. - Should have cancelled as soon as I say the place. Built in 1936 and looks like it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Exterior gave me chills, but once inside quite ple - Exterior gave me chills, once inside quite pleased with cleanliness of the vintage old motel
- Jennifer (6/5): Route 66 Experience... - This Motel is very quaint and in the middle of a restoration project. When we pulled up to the property we really questioned what the room would be like. The room was spacious and clean. There was a little room with sink, refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. It is definately a route 66 experience. The downside is that it doesn't have a hairdryer and maid service is not provided daily. If you want more coffee filters you have to ask for them. Don't expect flat screen tvs or dressers or anything, but a bed a side table. The price seemed high for what is offered and there wasn't a complimentary breakfast offered.
- Gary (6/5): - We picked this motel because we were going to the Grand Canyon and wanted to stay in Williams. This motel is under new ownership and we were impressed with the friendliness and service. The owner is in the process of restoring the facility to the original look and colors of the original when it was built in 1936. The room was large although the bathroom was small but still functional.
The motel is only a block or two to the restaurants, shopping and sites of Williams. We would certainly stay here again.
- Roger (8/5): Historic Motel on Route 66 - Clean - a bit Spartan - most reasonable rate in area approaching the Grand Canyon - The closer you get, the pricier the room. Charming as a 1936 motel with historic designation. The town of Williams is also charming in a Wild Western mode. I have nothing other than praise for our stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not open in the winter. - after hiking to the bottom on the Grand canyon and back found the hotel to be closed. stayed at the travel lodge 2 doors down for $10 more.
- Nancy (2/5): hotel closed when we arrived - We arrived at this hotel about 6:30pm to find the lot filled with snow - nothing had been shovelled. We had to tromp through a foot of snow to get to reception only to find it closed! We had to drive around to find another hotel and pay rack rates for our room. The hotel next door told us we weren't the first ones to have this happen to. Hotels.com should removed them from their data base so this doesn't happen to other people.
- Carol Ann (10/5): Quaint, Clean, and Comfortable - This IS Williams. It is an old town. We didn't see any new, modern, flashy hotels. This is an old motel but it was VERY clean with new, comfortable mattresses. The bathroom was very small but clean and the water was HOT! The staff were very friendly. Super fast check in/out. Easy parking! It had 2 separate bedrooms which made it convenient for families and/or 2 couples. Heaters worked great as it was freezing temps.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Friendly hotel staff but Wi-fi not working and heater was a nightmare, extremely noisy and with no adjustment possible either too hot or nothing...
- Michelle McGill (10/5): Road trip - I chose this hotel for the laundromat. It's the first hotel built in Williams, AZ. It has the laundromat across the street in the steak house parking lot. Walking distance to all the shops and train depot. The man at the front desk was working on the roof and when I rung the bell his dog barked to alert him I was there. He was very informed about the area gave us the history of the hotel, the town and Grand Canyon. He walked us to the room and helped us bring stuff in. Explained that the hot water was plentiful but would take a few min to get there. The room was clean with wood floors, walls are real stucco and it was hard to get the room a comfortable temperature when it's 20 degrees outside. The bathroom is small but has new showers and sinks. Bed was comfy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Loved this Motel - The owners are taking great pride in the ongoing restoration of this motel. It is the oldest motel in Williams. Sort of time travel. It is a labor of love so I urge people to book and keep it alive.
- JIm and Holly (8/5): Route 66 Experience - We had a great stay. We were there for two nights. Rich, the owner, was very helpful and very concerned that we would have a good time. He told us the history of the motel to give us an understanding of what we were about to experience. He was kind enough to explain which restaurants and area attractions would be good to visit.
The room was a throwback to days long ago. It gave a real feel of the “Route 66” experience. We bought the souvenirs and drove the road but this place brought it home. The bed was nice, the wifi worked fine and the television was good. I did keep forgetting the toilet was just behind the door as it was originally built.
This is a small operation so there are some quirks but Rich is a quality guy who wants to give a chance to live in the Route 66 time. Rich is in process of adding updates to the rooms but not changing the feel.
- randy (8/5): One night stay - Would have stayed again in Dec. but hotel is closed the week before Christmas. Owner was there, nice guy, room was basic but clean and comfy. I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Grand Hotel - Williams, AZ - Remodeling is in progress. The room was small and it was difficult to dry/curl hair as there was no where to sit and have access to a mirror. The owner was fabulous and gave lots of great tips on restaurants and sites to see. It will be a great vintage motel when it is completed. Love that there were hardwood floors and not carpet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner was very friendly and informative
- Not Provided (6/5): Quaint Work In Progress - Owner welcomed us to the site warmly and he was an enthusiastic advocate for the Williams and Grand Canyon areas. Facility is a true motor court motel from the 1930's. Rooms are tight - no room for a chair in our king room. Not what you would expect in a modern facility, but solid construction from days gone by add significantly to the quality of the quiet. Property is 250 yards south of main BNSF line with a train passing by about every 15 minutes 24/7. We slept like babies and only heard one train all night. Facility is also tight on automobile parking and circulation. Not a problem for modern cars, but we drove a '03 Town Car (the last of the land yachts) this trip and had to take extra care to plan for our early-morning exit. Good location vis-a-vis restaurants and brew pubs. I'd come back in my Prius with my girl friend, but I wouldn't come here with kids.
- Sharon (10/5): Great place to stay. - Having worked in the Hospitality Industry fro many years, the most thing that you noticed about this place are the family who owns it. Great customer service, hands-on, very accomodating, friendly and helpful.
This is the second time I stayed here, and will do it again on my next trip to the Grand Canyon. I have a lot of friends overseas who likes to come and visit me in Arizona, and one of the main attractions we visit is the Grand Canyon.
- KAY (8/5): Quaint motel on Route 66 - This 1935 route 66 era Motel is still in process of refurbishment, but was clean and comfortable, and the innkeeper was very friendly and helpful. Williams is a quaint town that appears to be taking in to its pay. It is one hour to the Grand Canyon. We had a decent meal in a local cafe. It was a very nice night in this quaint and cosy motel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): First motel in Williams & looks it - Old layout is dated & decor mismatched with minimal furnishings. Breakfast very limited- went out. Worst motel of our 2 weeks touring the National Parks
- Dave & Pat (8/5): nice motel close to everything. - A lot of personal attention and very friendly manager. Breaks fast included was excellen
- Verified traveler (6/5): Restoration of ca. 1936 "motor court" - This was the first motel or "motor court" in Williams, AZ. Williams is where the station for the Grand Canyon railway is located. If driving from the west it is where you turn left for the Canyon. Williams is trying to capitalize on the whole Route 66 nostalgia thing. The whole place is cute, clever and over priced. Entertaining if it's your first visit but annoying after that.
The owners have applied a fresh coat of paint (over many older layers) on the interior of the units. They are clean, comfortable and functional. They are also minimalist by current standards - for example some travelers may be accustomed to a counter top in the bathroom but at the Grand Motel if cant balance to bottle and tooth past on the sink rim you are out of luck. There is free WiFi when it works. There is also cereal and toast in the morning but you must take it back to your room or eat outside in the gazebo in the center of the parking lot. It's not that the owners are earnest and trying very hard but there really isn't much to work with. The place was austere in 1936 and 80 years won't change that.
On a positive note the price is reasonable for Williams if you don't crave full current amenities and the housekeeping was pristine.
- Richard (8/5): - The owner was very helpful and informative
- Viktor (2/5): Pictures on Expedia do not match reality. - Oldest motel in town, that says it all. It's comprehensible that this type of motel will never grow up to the "luxury" other motels with the same ratings provide, but all in all it was below my expectations.
- Aga (10/5): Nice, old motel - We came late at night and had no problems checking in. The room was spacious and comfy. It was quiet.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Its a rustic but comfortable motel. - The resection was very friendly. The room comfortable. Everything was in working condition.
- S and S (8/5): Pleasant Surprise! - Nostalgic motel, oldest in Williams, is being rennovated. Bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a motel. Being a 1930's building, it is a little smaller than most modern motels, but owners have done a great job with the space to include the basic items such as fridge, microwave, TV. Outside still needs some work, especially some lighting for night. Parking lot is small but the owner knows how to get everyone in so that one can maneuver. I was fortunate to be able to park in front of the old-fashioned carport! Within walking distance of old town Williams. The owners are incredibly nice, perfect personalities for the hotel business. I won't hesitate to book again the next time I go through Williams!
- Diana (10/5): Grand Motel rocks! - Me and my husband both had a great time at the Grand Motel!
Although it's the oldest motel in the town, our room was updated and cozy. Breakfast was nice, and we enjoyed eating it at one of the outdoor tables - there is lavender growing around the motel, which looks really nice!
The owner, Rich had a great sense of humor, and was very informative. He recommended a great restaurant to us, explained the route to the Grand Canyon, and even gave me an idea for a birthday present for my husband: a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, which we did, and had the time of our lives!!
If we ever go back to Williams in the future we will stay at the Grand Motel again for sure :)
- Becky (8/5): Cool old place. - This hotel is a work in progress, an historic building being personally upgraded and restored by the owners. Our room was relatively small, as were rooms in all hotels built in the early 1900's, but very clean. The bed (mattress and pillows) was great. We slept very well. The air conditioner was the best we've had in a motel, very quiet. The location is perfect, walking distance to everything in Williams. I will stay there again next time we go to Williams for a getaway.
