Guest Reviews
- Marvin (10/5): - A lot of stairs to the rooms. No A/C, no screens on the doors so you have to close the doors and gets a little hot. Beautiful scenery of the lake from the rooms. Birds singing in the morning. Cafeteria is facing the lake. Beautiful
- Poonam Preet K (10/5): - We loved our peaceful stay here. It’s clear that the volunteers really care about guest experience - especially Nicole. Christian was also very helpful and kind throughout our stay - an invaluable asset to the hotel. Be warned that if mobility is an issue, you should not stay here as the cabins are hundreds of stairs from the restaurant. But you are rewarded with beautiful views of the lake - which, in our view, was worth it. Dinner was 150q per night, but it was an amazing three course meal - very worth it! There is free coffee and tea and the coffee was the best we have had on our trip so far in Guatemala. I would definitely stay here again!
- Edouard (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay here. The property is great and the restaurant has great food and drinks and an excellent vibe. Everyone working there was extremely friendly. We really enjoyed our tome here. If you want a friendly stay at a boutique spot, highly recommend.
- Isidoro (10/5): - Fue increíble la gente es súper amable
- jennifervE7513YF (4/5): Great for young people! - Nice views of a gorgeous lake. People over 60 should consider physical limitations when going. No handrails on stairs ond all rooms are up "stairs' or paths. Our room did not have a chair, either inside or out on the porch, even though the room slept many people! Very nice staff, no amenities in rooms.
- Evan (8/5): - Beautiful property, great location and friendly staff. Definitely a great recommendation for a unique stay for those looking for "adventure travel" to Lake Atitlán that want peace and quiet. If you are more accustomed to bougie traveling you might want to consider more traditional hotel as you do need to prepare for a little walking up the stairs to your room and no heat when it can get cold in November.
Very picturesque and highly recommended.
- Diara (10/5): - Muy bonito lugar
- Annalise (10/5): - Perfect little hotel a short walk from the main part of Santa Cruz! Food was amazing, staff attentive, and we loved the hot tub and sauna (temsecal). Also very convenient right next to a tour company that took us on a kayak tour to cliff jumping!
- Justina (10/5): - I want am Ecological Experience and I got It!!
- maria de jesus (6/5): Great view and a lot of steps - Well this a really eco friendly hotel... The view was great but there were 239 steps to our room, no wifi during our whole stay and one night without power. The hotel is actually better that the photos and food is quite nice. I wouldnt stay here again but it is a good option if this is your type of hotel.
- Henry Carlo (8/5): - This property is beautiful but be prepared to climb a lot of stairs. My room was #6 and it takes about 10 minutes of climbing. Also, the property has no backup generator. There was no power during my 1st and 6th day. The showers were great though even if they are just solar powered. I stayed during the rainy season and the water still gets very hot. The dining options are limited so be prepared for that. The views from Santa Cruz are beautiful though that's why I prefer to stay in this town.
- Dragonelectrico (2/5): Never coming back there - The lady in reception was so arrogant and disrespectful that it was offensive.
After communicating we had no hot water in the shower, she said they’ll fix it but they did not. And when we asked about it again, her response was that they’re an “eco lodge “ and even she herself take cold showers!!
It was a rip off, súper expensive and did not really worth what we paid.
We certainly Did not feel welcome, won’t recommend or be back to that place ever again.
- Fiona (10/5): Relaxing and restorative! - We had a fantastic stay for 3 nights. A lovely welcome by all the staff. Great food. We'd love to return
- Joan (10/5): Beautiful magical place - What a magical place, a little cabin nestled on the hillside overlooking beautiful Lake Atitlan. From my bed I could see Volcano Fuego erupting far away. Be forewarned, it really is up a LOT of stairs, and the water is solar heated so on a cloudy day it’s a bit chilly. Staff incredible. Good delicious. Magic.
- S4344DNmaries (10/5): Wonderful, relaxing stay! - The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food is so good and the drinks don’t disappoint either. The huts are charming, comfortable, and perfect for a quiet retreat. I love that they have a small gift shop. The pizza night we had was beyond my dreams! Thank you for a wonderful stay Sofia and Riley!!!
- nask1 (6/5): Know Before You Go - If you know what you're getting into and you decide it's what you want, it can be a good experience. If not, it will be a bad experience. And it's hard to know what you're getting into because the website doesn't contain a lot of information, and, as others have said, if you email the staff ahead of time, they won't tell you much. Here's my attempt to tell you what you need to know, both pro and con.
Pros:
- It's in a beautiful location and has great views.
- The staff is very friendly and welcoming and tries to be as accommodating as they can, including with dietary restrictions and any other request the guests have.
- They make three fresh meals a day and have some snacks and drinks available, and everything seems to be well-made and tasty.
- The rooms are clean and the beds were pretty decent.
- They offer yoga, massages, etc. (for a price), which can be relaxing.
Cons
- It's pretty isolated. You have to take a boat to get most places (i.e., other towns on the lake that you may need to get to or may want to visit for fun), or you can walk 15 minutes down a janky path to the nearest bar/restaurant and from there also take a tuk-tuk up a hill to a mini-town. (And because it's so isolated, you can't buy your own bottled water, food, snacks, toiletries, etc. easily because nothing is really nearby.) If you like to have convenience/accessibility, this is not the place for you.
- It's very easy to get sick. They bring in filtered water everyday (in giant water cooler bottles delivered by boat) and they both serve that in the common areas and provide that to everyone for their own use. And they seem to keep things clean in their kitchen and bar (as noted, they cook all day, every day). But in a country where the tap water is not potable, water and food-borne illness is prevalent. Several people in our group had some diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc. -- even those who were being very careful, i.e., brushing teeth only with filtered water, only eating cooked food (rather than salads), etc. So if you don't have a strong stomach and a strong constitution, I would not recommend going.
- The whole eco lodge (and note that it is an eco lodge, not a hotel or resort, by any stretch) is built into a hillside, and you have to climb lots of uneven stone steps (many without hand railings) to get to your room. We were only halfway up the hill, and we had to climb 60+ steps to get to our room; people at the top of the hill had to climb way more. (We didn't have to carry our luggage up and down though, as the staff does that for you.) Also, there is not enough lighting on the steps, especially at night, so we often used our cell phone flashlights to try to see where we were going. And keep in mind that you're at elevation, so if you normally live closer to sea level, you'll feel less in shape up there. If you're not physically fit and prepared to do lots of stairs, this is not the place for you.
- There's no true indoor area and there are a lot of bugs. One person in our group got a scorpion sting when she was running her hand along the stone wall next to steps for balance (as noted, there are no hand railings in some places). The common areas are all open air, and the rooms and other buildings are not built to be airtight. I heard that some of the rooms don't even have glass/plastic on the windows; ours did, but there were countless cracks and openings above and around the doors, walls, etc. So lots of insects come inside the rooms and bathrooms. We found two scorpions in our room (and several spiders and ants). I brought a pop-up netted tent for my bed and slept inside that, which was helpful. But if you're bothered by the elements or by bugs, I would not recommend going.
- The showers generally had low water pressure and lukewarm water. I was told the pressure was worse at the top of the hill, but it was bad even halfway down, where we were. If good water pressure and temperature are important to you, I would not recommend going.
Conclusion: The folks who run this place seem like good people and I really appreciate what they're trying to do. But there are some serious limitations to be aware of. I think that there are certain people for whom this can be a great getaway. But if you're not one of those people, it won't be a good experience. It wasn't for me.
- K344y (4/5): nothing to write home about- except to say i couldn't wait to get home!! - maybe this is nice for lake atilan standards, but i really find it hard to believe how many good reviews it has received. much more like a hostel than a hotel. the landscaping is beautiful, and the staff seem to genuinely care, and the food is better than decent, but everything else is awful. the hike to the cabins is significant. and there are no hand rails or lighting, so it is dangerous at night, and not for anyone who isn't accustomed to hiking high elevations. the beds are ancient- the coils of the springs were literally poking out through the sheets. the sheets- i have never seen anything so cheap, and same for the towels. scorpions and spiders everywhere. there was no hot water. wild pack of dogs that barked all day and all night. the staff is very present, but has no evident experience of service. for example, we were there for a week, 3 meals a day, and EVERY time we had to ask for hot sauce. so easy to put on the table when setting, but they didn't have that foresight. our group would fill up water before yoga, emptying the container, and after yoga, we ALWAYS had to ask to replenish, same with coffee. it seemed like they used "eco" as an excuse for cheap. the hot tub looked dirty and didn;t work consistently. the lighting in the room was terrible- you couldn't see at night to read or write, it was so dark. not much to do outside of the location. i can see that this has opportunity, but it fell very short of meeting my low expectations. i feel like lake atilan as a whole can be done in a day trip.
- Ingrid R (2/5): - I was never able to make it to the hotel. I tried to cancel, even though I knew the reservation was non refundable. There were unexpected issues in the country, which made it impossible to travel (roads blocked) due to protests in the county.
- 874nmoran (10/5): Beautiful, quiet hotel with great amenities, outstanding service and delicious food - We stayed at Isla Verde for three nights with our 6-years old daughter at the Garden Suit. We truly enjoyed every aspect of this charming hotel. Beautiful gardens, spacious room, incredibly comfortable beds, excellent location, which is quiet and close to the water, amazing service, and delicious food. Truly everything was outstanding. A special bonus were the Temeskal and hot tub which are located just above the lake, and are such a phenomenal way to wrap up a day filled with activities! Try out yoga on the deck overlooking the lake and mountains, follow that by Temeskal and dinner at their romantic, candle lit, restaurant and you’ll feel what vacation is supposed to feel. We highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back!
- OrlandoM815 (10/5): Great relaxing time - We just loved the great vibes of that place: beautiful view and tropical garden, great food, very kind staff, nice and cosy atmosphere. The room also was just great. We spent 5 days and loved every minute. Thank you all @islaverde, we will come back!
- Benjamin (8/5): - El entorno es muy lindo y la atención es muy buena. Los espacios comunes del lugar son excelentes. La habitación que nos tocó no estaba muy limpia ni era tan linda. Otras habitaciones se notaban mucho más lindas
- Scenic715943 (10/5): Views, Food, Atmosphere💕 - From our first moment arriving the staff was amazing, and accommodating. They helped us with our large roll luggage up to our room, which was 2 minute walk through beautifully landscaped oasis with flowers and huge leafed plants. The rooms were very clean, the shower had hot water, the views from our private balcony of the lake was very pretty.
The restaurant was amazing, great choices from wraps, Currys, and a dinner menu absolutely worth signing up for. The dinner atmosphere was incredibly romantic.
They have beautiful areas to loung and great dock for swimming and sun bathing.
The bathrooms are not open air, but also not sealed so be prepared for a kinda bungalow style bathroom, which was still very nice with its large shower, clean sink and toilet, but maybe the occasional friendly spider.
We will absolutely be returning on our next trip.

- edward (2/5): - Poor attitudes and the staff doesn’t take covid seriously. Stay clear from this place.
- jaramira23 (10/5): Amazing Place and a Fantastic New Year's Eve - This was an amazing place to spend the New Year. The lake is beautiful and it was great to be able to enjoy the fireplace in the evening.
We couldn't have chosen a better place to spend New Year 2020. Riley was super personal and attentive and made fantastic cocktails for us. We can't wait to return!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - View from room was disappointing: You see only small part of the lake-no volcanos- room is nice but noz worth to climb up 175 steps.
From restaurant you see one volcano, restaurant is nice and good.
- Elissabb (4/5): Over priced for what you get - The hotel is nice but thats it. The bathrooms smelled bad... something with the plumbing was leaking. They don't have hot water... only luke warm if any at all. The guest service is questionable. They assign one menu only for dinner and will NOT take into account any dietary restrictions. The answer was basically so sorry for your loss... go figure what to eat elsewhere (there are no restaurants close by, only by boat and at night its not easy to get a water taxi) We ended up going into Panajachel in the morning to buy bread, ham and cheese in order to have something to eat for dinner.
Did not feel welcome. Not planning in going back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wir lieben Isla Verde!
Perfekte Lage! Super Konzept! Essen prima! Kayaks gleich nebenan! Preis Leistungsverhältnis ist wirklich gut!
- Christopher (8/5): -
The views were amazing, the cabin was cozy and the restaurant was very relaxing.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - La atencion del responsable para resolver dudas sobre que conocer y como moverse por la zona.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful Hotel but... - This hotel is in a beautiful, quiet area. There is a lovely sun deck and yoga area overlooking the lake, and a cozy living room area with a wood burning fireplace by the reception desk. The private cabins have incredible views but are up over 200 stairs, so be prepared if you book one of them. However, for the price, some things could be improved on. The towels are old and ratty, and the bed linens are extremely old and have holes and/or mended holes. The blankets seem unwashed and are full of dust; I even found a couple dead insects in them.
- 470suzyw (10/5): Paradise found! - Absolutely best place we have stayed at so far. We spent 5 nights living in paradise at isla verde. Riley, Olí and everyone at this hotel were fantastic! The rooms, less room and more private cabin were perfect for us and just what we were looking for. It was definitely nature surrounded. I will say this hotel isn’t for everyone since the cabins are built on the side of a hill and all are located up some outdoor stairs. If you are squeamish about living things (animals including insects and plants) you want like it here. But if nature and physical activity is your thing, the place will deliver and then some. Be ready to shower in a semi open bathroom since it’s open to nature and the water is solar heated, so in days of less sun the water is tepid at best, it was all well worth it. We were looking to get away from the bustling people crushed city and this place was just what we needed. The food was FABULOUS!!! I wish I could have kidnapped their cook and brought her home!! We will definitely come back.

- Jorge (10/5): Amazing stay! - Had an amazing time at this beautiful gem! Staff was super friendly and accommodating, even calling for a private tour for us. Our bungalow was clean and beds super comfortable!
The only drawback for me was that the kitchen didn’t open until 8am and being a coffeee fiend, I would have loved some coffee while watching the sunrise. But even then, I’d book again in a heartbeat!
- anthonyt847 (8/5): Beautiful spot on Lake Atitlan - We stayed 2 nights over new years. Good - very chilled out. Good bar. Reasonably priced drinks. Not so good - our accommodation, suite 1, although quaint was a little dated. There was a bit of a smell from the bathroom. On the last day one of the beds had a bunch of ants on it. The breakfasts and lunches were good and reasonably priced. Dinner had to be booked in advance, was about twice the price of lunch and was a fixed menu. We thought that it was not great value. Overall, a good stay, given the options that were available at this busy time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great garden setting, right on the lake. Nice rooms and amenities.
- 427hellef (10/5): Clean rooms with lake view ans wonderful staff - Apart from the cabins being clean and cozy, they are spacious and in a summer cottage style, that is very charming. The best lake view if from the reception and restaurant area. The cottages are a bit uphill but have beautiful gardens and large balconies where one can chill and enjoy the lake view. Do try the yoga. The instructor is brilliant and it is a great activity in these surroundings. We also went for an hour of massage and we highly recommend it. It is a very spiritual room and the therapist extremely good! Certainly worthwhile the money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet, peaceful ambient!! Perfect to rest! View to the lake and volcanoes is amazing!
- kathleenp763 (10/5): Beyond my Wildest Expectations! - What a totally awesome place to stay. This is a great place to just “be”. I was dropped off from the boat I caught in Panajachel. Just a quick ten minute ride from there. In those ten minutes you will arrive to a place that is secluded, has a fantastic restaurant, charming cabins, and best of all a staff that wants to make your time there something that will give you memories for a long time.
The cabins can be with or without a bathroom. I opted for a shared bathroom. This was no more than 10 feet from my cabin. Easy access. I was also in cabin 1 which is high up the side of the mountain. But that was not an issue as when I checked in Ollie, was there and he carried my suitcase up from the reception desk. The trek up was a surprise to me, but I quickly became use to it. The view from there was fantastic, the lake, the volcanoes and at night the lights from other towns around the lake.
The food was outstanding. You can have dinner there each evening for 100q, which for the meal is a good price. You can also get breakfast and lunch. They have a nicely stocked bar also. You can purchase a bottle of wine and consume it at your leisure. The restaurant/reception area is a nice place to hang out, read a little or at night hangout by the fireplace.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They arranged transportation to Chichicastenango and then back to Antigua. They also gave me directions as to how to reach which towns by boat and what time the last boats would leave certain towns.
I can only give Isla Verde the best marks for everything. You made three nights a great time. Thank you all. I’ll be back.
- chrisv164 (10/5): Serendipitous maiden voyage to Lago Atitlan - I don't know how things can be more laid back than this. This is the only village on the lake with no road access, but nonetheless, you have everything you need at the hotel, and nothing that you do not need unless you've shoved it into your luggage. For all else, just ask. The staff are magicians.
I'm great with names, but I was surprised how the owners confirmed my name one time only and were able to repeat it despite a weekend rush of official hotel guests and others visiting for a coffee, drink, or large dinner party.
The value on my cabin would be so hard to beat. If my girlfriend were there, we would need to catch Sunday church services or face hellfire.
- deadleigh (10/5): Beautiful Getaway - Isla Verde is a laid back spot to really get away. The food was absolutely amazing. The rooms were comfy, but we spent most of our time down towards the lake either on the deck overlooking the water, in the hammocks in the shade, or nights in by the fire. It get's chilly at night but they have blankets and a fire going to keep everyone warm and cozy. The staff was beyond sweet and took care of everything we needed. It is a bit of a hike to get up to your rooms, but worth it for the views of the lake from each room. It was an easy walk to get to town in Santa Cruz, and you could take a boat to the surrounding towns to walk around and explore each day.
- jj6558 (10/5): Lakeside relaxation - A stylish, tranquil spot on the edge of Santa Cruz. The beautiful lakeside dining deck and living room with fireplace were perfect places for relaxing. There is also an outdoor area with loungers and hammocks (some hammocks were in need of replacement though).
The rooms are more rustic than what you might expect given the "boutique" vibe of the hotel common areas, but remember that you are basically in the jungle in a town that is only accessible by boat. Our bungalow was very cute, but the mattresses were on the thinner side. The bathroom is open-air with a view, but the shower was generally cold. As other reviews mentioned, be prepared to potentially walk many stairs uphill to your room. The reward is seclusion and lovely views of the lake!
The staff were helpful and friendly and made us feel right at home, especially Ollie who was a wonderfully warm host. The food was excellent and they had many lighter, fresh options -- a nice change after eating heavier, local food elsewhere on our trip.
All in all, there are some minor things that could be done to make things more comfortable (new hammocks and mattresses!) but I loved my stay and would not hesitate to stay here again.
- matthewhodal (10/5): Stayed one night with my family - Lovely place on the lake. Very relaxing and laid back. The people who run it are very nice. They were able to make my wife and i a delicious vegan meal for dinner. Everything is reasonably priced and right next door there is a place where you can book excursions, which we did. Hand down the most gorgeous place i have ever visited.
- LifeDocumented (10/5): Wonderful place! - Isla Verde is a total gem. I'm a simple backpacker with basic needs. And I booked this place an an "end of trip upgrade" and loved it.
They have several shared spaces for hanging out, which are all great. A warm fireplace with candles at night is a highlight for sure as was dinner by candlelight and hanging flowers. Swimming in the lake is lovely. Their food is good. Dinner is a bit expensive but it was really tasty. You need to book by 3 or 4 pm each day and the only other nearby options are also guesthouses where you have to prebook, so make up your mind early.
I liked the room but it might be a bit more simple than one would expect from the price and/or the "decor" of fireplace area. There are amazing windows with views of the lake and they all open wide, which also means they do not seal perfectly. It can be cool at night. The bathroom with plants and a view is totally different and fun. It also means the floor can be covered in water after a shower and bugs could crawl on anything you leave out there (though I didn't see too many). We didn't have any hot water but I'm not going to complain about that here because we didn't even ask them about it, perhaps there was an easily fixable issue. Ultimately, how great is it to wash your hands while looking at a lake instead of at yourself in a mirror (there is a small mirror off to the side). As others mentioned, you do climb stairs from reception to your room, so be prepared to do that (they will help with bags).
The other guesthouses in Santa Cruz (sadly) have more of a party vibe, so this is the most chill and tranquil spot. I liked it and would stay there again over other options. It is kind of nestled into the hillside which means you won't get a sunset here (you can get more of the sunset just 5 minutes along the shore towards the main dock) but you can get a sunrise from your bed! Very easy to find. Take the foot path to your left immediately after stepping off the dock, 10 minutes walk.
- 518susieb (10/5): romantically stunning - My boyfriend and I walked into this property and were completely taken aback by it's comfort and beauty. We were greeted by the owner, Riley, himself who was more than welcoming. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, and authentic. The breakfasts and dinners were fresh, hand made, and out of the world. The romantic setting was breathtaking. The cabin we stayed in was more like a luxury/private two story house with an incredible lake view, and we felt like we could touch the show of stars at night. After our 3 night stay it was hard to leave, a stay we will certainly never forget. If your looking for a sensationally spiritual and serine get away in paradise this is it!
- Karin (8/5): Worth It! - Lovely cozy hotel on the lake. Great for natur, swimming and exploring. Bathrooms could use some upgrading. ,
- Karin (8/5): A gem on lake atitlan! - Beautiful location on the lake with lovely views and gardens. Laid back and welcoming and the food was very good. The rooms were fine for the price but could use some sprucing up--particularly the bathrooms.
- Jo (10/5): Perfect place to disconnect - Beautiful natural setting- the perfect place for a quiet getaway. Set on the side of the mountain, the hotel and location are pretty rugged, so be prepared to climb some stairs. Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, although food and drink service closes up on the early side.
- Jessica (10/5): We loved it! - Plus the food was great! Dinner was well worth it! Yes... There are a ton of steps, but its on a steep mountain. So If you aren't in decent shape this might not be the right place for you. But then again, all the lake villages really require a level of fitness to enjoy, except maybe Pana.
The hotel is gorgeous. Staff super friendly. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful property on Lake Atitlan - Enjoyed my stay here at this charming eco-lodge. It was clean, quiet and the staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was great, but they do tend to serve a lot of pollo for dinners so best to find other restaurants if you want some variety. Hard to beat the gorgeous lake views from all the decks.
You will get a great workout climbing the stairs daily to your cabana!
- Christoph (10/5): Tolles Hotel mit tollem Essen - Tolle Lage, in kompletter Ruhe am Rande des Ortes Santa Cruz. Supernettes Personal, bestes vegetarisches Essen in der Gegend, toller Blick.
- Robert (2/5): Horrible Customer Service/Unattended for Party - During the second night stay, I arrived back to the hotel after hiking only to see that it had been left virtually unattended minus a few service staff. The wifi had been turned off, and as a result, I kindly approached the only staff at the hotel to access the wifi only to be treated like absolute garbage. They had no interest in helping me connect to the internet, tried to rush dinner so they could leave and overall had a very poor attitude. I asked about when the managing staff would return, and they said that they were at a party all night and left little detail. It was absolutely horrifying that they left the hotel unattended in the middle of a rural area of Guatemala. The service staff indicated that they were soon leaving, so I decided to depart the hotel that evening to stay at another one. The next day, I asked for a refund for the night that I did not stay, and I was refused such a refund. They did not seem to care or acknowledge their responsibility in running a business. I will petition that Hotels.com remove them from their site, because it is clear that this hotel does not have any interest in providing a service to its guests. This hotel is run by a bunch of party kids that do not care about service. I urge you not to stay here for any reason. There are plenty of other options! Finally, to make matters worse, they actually charged me double for food, which they did reimburse finally but just adds more evidence that this hotel is not what it seems.
- Omar (10/5): Beautiful hotel, perfect for resting - Incredible views. Kind people. This hotel is away from San Pedro and Panajachel, but close enough to visit both villages too. I highly recommend it. I was looking for a quiet place and the amazing views helped a lot. The little restaurant, the chill spot and even the yoga classes were just right for me
- Marcelo (8/5): Balkongen till Atitlans magi - Magiskt! Utsikten, lugnet, soluppgången, enkelt men ändå sofistikerad.
Trevlig, avslappnad och tillmötesgående personal.
Jättegod mat, även vegetariska alternativ som är helt gudomliga.
Rekommenderas varmt.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A gem on Lake Atitlan - This hotel is a group of casitas situated on lushly manicured grounds. Our cabin was tastefully rustic and spotless. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, on-site yoga, and gorgeous lake and volcano views. It's easy to walk the short distance to the Santa Cruz public dock and catch boat the various villages that ring the lake. Service is top-notch and friendly. Hard to leave.
- Eric (10/5): Beautiful secluded hotel - Fantastic secluded location, delicious fixed dinners for a very affordable price, quaint rooms with great views of the lake. Was able to get some much needed rest and still get to enjoy what the lake has to offer and visit some other villages.
- O Patricia (2/5): Nightmare!!! - We arrived and it was no reservation on there system for us after we received a confirmation of it...the staff was very unexperienced we were very dessapointed and also this place it is very expensive we had a very bad experienced don't recommend this place at all...
- daniela (10/5): Increible - Experiencia increible, lindisimo hotel! La gente muy amigable y la comida buenisima
- Verified traveler (10/5): Breathtaking view, delicious food and helpful staf - I had the most wonderful stay at Isla Verde, I only wish I could have stayed more than one night! The staff was so kind and generous to help in any way they could! The view is amazing... And I've traveled all around the world and have seen some pretty amazing views! The food was delicious and healthy- all grown organically on their property! In the short 24 hours I was there, I was able to enjoy sunbathing, a morning kayak trip on the lake, and squeeze in a few chapters of my book. I will absolutely return to Isla Verde one day!
- rey (8/5): a nice getaway - the place is primarily a romantic getaway for true nature lovers.... the break fast and lunch options are good but may be considered a bit pricey... dinner is one fixed three course meal and does vary... the quality of dinner is not good and a little too costly.... the wine selections is poor and too costly....the view of lake and volcano are spectacular....the place for me gets 4 out of 5 stars
- Sahar (10/5): Dreamy place - We realy enjoyed our time at Isla Verde. Its a beautiful set up. Food is fantastic, staff are lovely, and ofcourse the lake is always magical!
- Elizabeth (8/5): Pleasant Ecotourism location - The best aspect of this hotel is the location, situated atop the lake in cabins that extend upwards from the hill. Each has a spectacular view and there is a rustic aesthetic to the rooms. Getting to the hotel is easier if you can talk the boatman into dropping you off at the Hotel Isla Verde dock as opposed to the Santa Cruz dock, a 20 minute plus hilly walk to the hotel. The English speaking hotel staff were very easy to work with; those who had limited English would be easier to work with had we been more fluent in Spanish. Due to the language barriers, it was not always easy to work out the payment issues and get tours arranged. I would recommend staying at the hotel for its beauty and calm ambience; I would recommend coming prepared for the lack of hot water after 5:30 PM and the sparseness of the electricity due to the solar power.
- Brock (10/5): A great little spot - We arrived early in the morning, before our room was ready, and were made instantly comfortable and welcomed by hotel staff. A leisurely stroll throughout the grounds certainly reassured us that we had made the right choice. We used Isla Verde as our base camp from which we explored nearby villages, and caught boats on their dock for day trips to Panajachel. Simply put, our stay there was incredible! One note, if you are uncomfortable with climbing steep stairs, then this may not be the place for you. But, with a little forethought and planning, one can totally minimize the trips up to the casitas, which are spread out up the hillside. For us it was just fine.
We ate at their Slow Food Restaurant almost everyday. Awesome food. Great set menu dinners with just he right amount of food cooked with great ingredients.
- r. straub (8/5): Quaint eco friendly, scenic, quiet, cozy beautiful - Very clean, good service, beautiful surroundings. 8 cabins on the side of a mountain. Challenging climb up hill. Great food. reasonable rates. 15 min. ride in boat from panajachel, guatemala.
- Stan (8/5): Very scenic, a little rustic. - Our week long stay was very pleasant,
the food is great.
The top cabins are a hike for a 62 year old.
- Philip (10/5): Amazing location - Excellent hotel right by the lake. Every room has amazing views. Excellent food and service.
- Donato (10/5): ECO Chic but surprising - Isla Verde is a great place to relax and get away from it all. Staff is outstanding, competent, knowledgeable, and extremely accomodating. No roads transport is by launch and easily accessable. Great place for meeting people from Canada, Spain, Germany, Italy and making new friends.Hotel offers daytrips, yoga and classes of interest. (medicinal herbs etc.)
I would stay here again and recommend it to my friends.
- Ellen (8/5): Eco Lodge, Clean, Friendly - This hotel is on a beautiful lake which is relaxing and magical. The staff are excellent and extremely helpful. The food is amazing! The gardens are beautiful. The hotel is very clean. The cabin rooms are fairly "rustic" and feel a little more like camping than staying in a hotel. Be prepared to climb a steep escarpment to your cabin. If you are looking for luxury, are older or "out of shape" this may not be the place for you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Serenity "Casa Verde\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' - Although we are retired the hilltop location was great. We really enjoyed the location, quiet and dinners were very yummy. We would return here if the occasion arose. thank you
