Guest Reviews
- Steve (10/5): - A working farm owned by welcoming and interesting people.
Perfect for someone like myself.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Great family feel to this working farmhouse. Hosts were so friendly, helpful and ready to do whatever to meet our needs. Come here to experience a unique stay in the English countryside.
- Jenny (8/5): Pet friendly no fuss guest house. - A lovely warm welcome from the hosts. The room was dated but clean. Tea, coffee tray, nice clean towels, i got lucky and got the huge king-size bed, had the best night sleep for a long time. I wasctold to trest it like home and i did feel comfortable comjng in and out with my dogs, very pet friendly, no don't do this, don't do that, very relaxed. One piece of constructive criticism, there is a bell to get the attention of the hosts, i tried on numerous occasions and nobody came, all i wanted was the WiFi password and to know where the fire escape was, i wouod suggest just an information sheet pinned to the back of bedroom door would suffice, i did without WiFi and found a window that opened but didn't know where it lead as there where overgrown bushes. I had a fantastic full English breakfast, choice of cereals. Beautiful surroundings, overall i enjoyed my 1 night there.
- Christopher (2/5): Worst place i have ever been to. - I didnt stay because the state of the car park. It was unsafe to walk in.
- David (10/5): - A friendly welcome, a comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast. Perfect
- Jason (10/5): - We found this wonderful farmhouse Guesthouse by chance, on the internet and so glad that we did. We stayed there for a few days/nights and NOTHING was too much trouble for the hosts, Sandra and Arthur. Indeed, these lovely people being 'natives' to Dartmoor, have a vast knowledge of how anything and everything happens on the moors. Their knowledge is also invaluable when you want to visit beautiful spots and places of interest within the countryside.
We would have NO HESITATION in staying in this wonderful Guesthouse again..........AND WILL, NEXT YEAR!!!
Coming from Portsmouth and being used to more of a town environment, the Guesthouse location and the surrounding areas in the countryside were stunning!
NOTHING was too much trouble for the hosts, coupled with their friendly and helpful manner, which went far and above the call of duty!
Well done Sandra and Arthur..........keep up the good work..........and see you next year!!!!!
- Sally (8/5): - The property was down a long single track road which we wondered if we had the right road. No signs anywhere. Tight turn on the track up to the house. First impression was that is was quite run down, tiles loose and missing on the front of the house. There was a dead rat on the ground where we parked. We were welcomed by the owner who offered to make us a cuppa as we had travelled a long distance, which was nice.
The room was clean but really needs upgrading, as does the whole place. Comfy beds and lovely and quiet surroundings.
Breakfast was lovely but the tablecloth was dirty. Just little touches that would improve the place much more.
No hand soap in the bathroom which was across the landing. Struggled to close the bathroom door, but as we seemed to be the only ones upstairs we just left it ajar.
Hosts were very pleasant though and made the stay very homely.
- Clive (8/5): Worth considering - Great hosts, excellent breakfast, good internet access, comfortable room and although the facilities are adequate they could benefit from a little tlc, but nevertheless it is a wonderful location to explore the local area from.
- Erica (10/5): My favourite guest house in the whole of the uk - Such an amazing place run by amazing people and in a stunning area. Even accommodated me when I’d booked the wrong date. A real “get-away-from-it-all-place” Beautiful rooms and best breakfast ever. They really can’t do enough for you. Have stayed a couple of times and Can’t wait to return
- Fiona (10/5): Glorious location - Lovely hosts and it felt like you had gone to stay with relatives as opposed to complete strangers
- Andrea (2/5): - Awful
- Evelyn (10/5): - I had a wonderful nights stay in a king size bed in an extremely quiet farm away from normal life. There was a good view of the splendid fireworks from the Summer ball down in Tavistock that night, then waking up to a lovely cooked breakfast.
The couple were very helpful throughout and I will book again.
Don't expect modern day living just homely comfort and a great view of the countryside on a working farm.
- Kiri (10/5): - So homey, and wonderful hosts! We had a lovely stay here. Highly recommend for a bit of peace and quiet.
- Christine (6/5): - A little difficult to access, but i appreciated the efforts to assist.
- Jethro (8/5): Kind and lovely people authentic family farm - Kind and lovely people, lovely chat and they really cared. Very much a spare room in the end of their house with a it’s own bathroom so very homely. Breakfast room was a breakfast room with lots of stuff and a cat (I loved the cat). It’s down a very rough and rocky track in the car. Basically it’s an authentic working farm with some lovely farmers who make a solid breakfast. I’d be back. If you are looking for a polished hotel experience this isn’t for you but for a real life nice people supporting local go for it. Lovely and quiet in the middle of nowhere. Thanks folks. For that price, who can argue
- Matthew (10/5): Excellent all-rounder - A lovely working farm house; high celing room; spacious; clean and tidy.
Very kind and friendly hosts - and a super full english breakfast.
- George (10/5): Excellent! - Lovely people, beautiful farm B&B, very friendly.
- Christopher (10/5): Great little please - Fantastic place and have stayed several times. Ideally located for Tavistock centre and always a warm welcome
- Jason (10/5): The real farmhouse experience - Very welcoming farming couple who go out their way to make sure everything is OK. Fantastic wholesome farmhouse meals provided. Location is very remote and strongly recommend asking if you can view the old waterwheel during your stay (you'll need a torch!)
- Anthony (8/5): - Lovely couple, working farm bare that in mind, quirky and rustic, enjoyed the stay.
- David (10/5): - Only stayed for the night, friendly people who run it , nice big breakfast to start the day ,so good value for the money, if you are afraid of taking your car up narrow roads get yourself a taxi.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Farmhouse - Middle of nowhere and wonderful for an off the grid stay in a working farmhouse that’s just ten minutes drive from lots of places to eat
- Suzanne (10/5): - A warm welcome on a working farm - no nonsense, no frills just a comfortable, well-appointed room and a hearty breakfast. The drive up the lane is a bit hairy because there are few pulling in points should you meet traffic in the opposite direction but it's worth the risk - beautiful authentic setting, lovely hosts.
- Rose (8/5): - A bit outside the town but google found it! Beware narrow country road, however host very helpful.
- Erica (10/5): A good find - Wonderful hosts, comfy bed, lovely room and an amazing breakfast. Thank you for making me so welcome
- Sarah (10/5): - An honest and traditional old farmhouse, with all the quirks you hope for and are present with owners who really care
- Angela (10/5): - Traditional farmhouse style with wonderful hosts and delicious home cooked food.
- Leanne (8/5): - Pleasant owners. Quiet location.
- christopher (10/5): - the landlady was very friendly and helpful the breakfast was spot on in all a great find can thoroughly reccommend
- Philip (10/5): - Family very friendly, very quiet
- Paul (10/5): Fantastic 😊 - It was a fantastic choice from me, if I do say so myself 😊 it’s out of the way, it’s quiet and there are a few cars, which made me even more happy.
The owners are lovely, they are very welcoming. I would highly recommend staying here, and it’s easy to find - after a little bit of direction.
Fantastic stay, quiet and it was great to see the high quality stuff f my room, definitely worth the money.
- Anna (10/5): Great weekend break - Lovely quiet location at end of 1 track road. Hosts very friendly and accomodating. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend.
- phil (8/5): I'd stay there again - very welcoming, a bit isolated, great breakfast and comfy bed
- Ian (10/5): Comfy bed & lots of tea Biscuits nice breakfast. - Nice comfy bed & lots of tea and biscuits that I enjoyed, and very nice breakfast.
- Eddie (8/5): - The views amazing, owner very friendly
- Glen (10/5): Beautiful farm - Thankyou for the lovely stay. It is a wonderful farm The breakfasts are lovely. Thanks for showing us around too!
- Jill (8/5): Pleasant stay - Clean and comfortable, wonderful breakfast. Working farm so don't expect luxury
- Marcus (10/5): A very different type of stay, a great experience. - We stayed here as I wanted somewhere with dinner on site so we could get some work done without distractions. I must admit I didn’t look at the location too much and as we drove down a long single track road in the countryside I did wonder what I’d done!
We parked the car and were immediately met by the lady owner who showed us the goats. The place is in a beautiful setting and there is a lovely courtyard garden as well as countryside views.
Our dinner was excellent- huge portions of home cooked food and I had to sit for a while after finishing dessert before going upstairs to our room.
The wifi was ok, it worked well enough for the work we were doing but probably isn’t up to gaming. The room was large and had 2 beds and a good selection of teas and coffees. If you like sleeping in late then take a sleep mask as there was no blackout blind 😉
We had a good breakfast and then saw the goats again before leaving. A great experience and very different to a chain hotel, great fun
- Jane (8/5): Nestled near to Dartmoor - Beautiful views. Farm has a fascinating history. Hosts good humoured and friendly.
- Pekka (10/5): - The owners were very helpful and arranged a ride to town and back. Excellent countryside views from the bedroom.
- michael (6/5): - Its a working farm so you can expect a bit of noise. Easy to find though being a long single track access to farm . It could be a bit of a pain should you meet another vehicle. Accommodation. Basic but for the price acceptable. Host/hostess were friendly and helpful. No outstanding issues but it would be cold in winter.
- Isobel (10/5): - Fantastic view across the fields, especially in the morning!
- Michael (8/5): Out in the country - great! - Great to stay on a working farm. Down to earth and very welcoming hosts.
Enjoyed a roast chicken dinner after a long day. And then a full English breakfast in the morning. Didn't need anything else until evening!
The farm is out in the country with sheep and cattle all around and well worth the caution and patience needed to navigate the lane. Recommended!
- Elizabeth (6/5): Tavistock. - Friendly people. Muddy from car park to the entrance and up some steep steps. Bedroom upstairs so be warned if any mobility problems. Comfy double bed. Bathroom clean but spartan.
- Joanne (10/5): Very quiet and peaceful - Fabulous stay, very quiet and peaceful setting, amazing breakfast 😀 easy access to all locations across Devon and North Cornwall.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place, in the middle of fields, quiet. Friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Signage is needed along long, twisted route. Dog barked so much during the night- poor chained creatures, in cages. Breakfast orders mixed up- luckily the allergy situation was not in play. Poor placement of electric plugs & wi-fi kept fading & losing contact. Only 1 lamp at bedside, at a subtle bed!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This was an interesting place. The couple who own it are sheep and cattle farmers. They are very nice and friendly. It is in the country surrounded by fields of sheep and cattle. My room was very pleasant. The breakfast was delicious. The host showed my around the sheep barn. There are beautiful flowers everywhere.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - verry friendly staff and comfortable room and bed etc
- Markus (10/5): Great B&B - Enjoyed the stay, I have stayed here before so would strongly recommend
- Donna (8/5): - Lovely place, great hosts will be visiting again. You just have to remember this is a working farm
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is in a beautiful country location with awesome owners who made a fantastic English breaky.
- Deborah (10/5): Lovely quiet night! - I took my 82 year old mother to Kilworthy House for the night and she loved it. It reminded her of childhood holidays on a farm in the 1940s. Kilworthy House has clean and comfortable rooms with lovely views. We had the large room with a double and a single which is very spacious. It is so quiet just the sound of the cows! The hosts are lovely and cooked us a great breakfast including fresh eggs from their chickens.
- Lynn (10/5): - A traditional farmhouse in a glorious location. A lovely, friendly welcome. A bright, sunny, good size double room with shower room ensuite. Breakfast to last the day! We felt like we were staying with old friends, on a true working farm. Lucky enough to watch the delivery of a lamb, and follow his progress for a few days, and to bottle feed and cuddle lambs. Pigs, goats, cattle, dog, cat, children!! This was a never to be forgotten stay with the wonderful Sandra and Arthur and their family. We will return. Can’t wait.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely Guesthouse - A really warm, welcoming place to stay. My bed was really comfortable, good shower and excellent breakfast. The owners are really friendly and helpful.
- Vera (8/5): Quiet country stay - Historic working farm at the end of a long lane. Accommodation separated from family's area. A quiet place to stay.
Rain curtailed our outdoor activity.
- rachel (10/5): lovely farmhouse - Sandra and Arthur were totally sweet hosts and looked after us really well. The farmhouse is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The cooked breakfast was something else - we didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the day. Loved it....
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - I have to say that the location was peaceful, the bed was clean and comfy, the room was warm and spacious and the shower hot.
Lovely welcoming cup of tea on arrival.
- Markus (10/5): Lovely - This is the second time I have stayed and the owners are very helpful and can't do enough for you.
- Barry (10/5): Qiet friendly guesthouse - Vert quiet location and a very pleasant couple Sandra and Arthur.
Would certainly stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family.
- Steven (8/5): The House on the Hill - A large clean room, but no WiFi access in the room, this may be fixed with a net link plug, other than that, the breakfast was awesome, and they made it when ... I ... needed it, as i had a early start that day.
A little remote for my personal liking, but great if you want to get away from it all.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dissatisfied customer - Whilst the hosts were warm and friendly the accommodation was not the standard I had expected when booking through hotel.com. Despite a confirmation phone call requesting a twin , ensuite for two people. a double room with no bathroom had been prepared for one person, a twin bedded room was subsequently provided. The bedding looked unironed and worn. Suffice to say we would not return or recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Quirky B&B - Sandra and Arthur are extremely welcoming and helpful. Theirs is a busy and slightly chaotic household which adds to the charm or this quirky B&B in glorious countryside yet a sort drive from Tavi.
Only downside is lack of yoghurt on breakfast menu and lack of any TV channels other than BBC1 ! We'll be staying there again
