- Michael (10/5): Amazing landlady - Delightful. Staff very good, nice to see both owners, the rural structure of the building and the roaring fireplace I don’t want to say too much, I think the breakfast could be better for what we had but it was nice.

- Andy (9/5): - Bedroom was so quiet and comfortable
Great view from the windows Windows are tiny.. everything else was beautiful
- Linda (9/5): Very friendly and comfortable - The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful The pub no longer does food which is a shame (however they are happy for you to take in your own food or a take-away, and they provide plate/cutlery); they also don't do cooked breakfast either which was a little disappointing

- David (4/5): Very disappointed and not worth over £100 per night. - B/F good, location not so good Cleanliness and room decor. Furniture dusty, net curtain in shower room holes all along the bottom. Husband dropped a tablet that rolled under the bed, when he looked lots of rolls of dust so didn’t retrieve it.
- Kai (9/5): Comfy, cosy, good location close to train and bus routes - Bed was comfortable
Bathroom was definitely a wow factor
Left early in the morning, they very kindly made us a pack up instead of breakfast

- vincent (7/5): A cosy pub in a great small-town location — the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. - A traditional small pub with a homely feel. Nice breakfast.
- Ailsa (8/5): -
- Timothy (6/5): I wouldn’t stay again or recommend to others - Handy location to use as a base No parking and the shower was broken, apparently for some time when we asked about it

- Claudio (7/5): Se ci si accontenta ... - I ragazzi che la gestiscono molto carini ed accoglienti ma la camera e il
Bagno veramente angusti . Le dimensioni del bagno
- Sue (9/5): Great breakfast - Great location for our son’s graduation Nothing

- Imad (10/5): A very nice stay - The staff were marvellous. Flow and Adelle were super great, helpful and accomodating. The location and back garden were very nice. It was near the bus station and a walk from the train station. Nothing
- William (10/5): - Perfect for two night stay ….downside , we stupidly didn’t realize that there was no on site parking which wasn’t easy as we are in our eighty's !!
- David (10/5): - Nice friendly pub. Staff were great especially the owner who is leaving soon to retire. Handy for the town and has good food choices.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Great breakfast, lovely location. Good bar with nice beers.
- Keith (8/5): Very good -
- M J G Rex (10/5): - It was great
- Janine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa-alice (10/5): Exceptional - The room itself was really nice, it was comfortable, had it's own little bathroom and a little window to let the air in. Despite the heat over the 3 days, it stayed pretty consistently cool even at night, and it was pretty quiet in there, although I did return late each night so I didn't often hear the bar when it was open. The breakfast was really good, I got something different each day and all of them were really good, the Full English was a great way to start the day, the pancakes were absolutely perfect, and the yogurt and granola came with fresh berries which was a lovely addition, it's great to know where the food comes from. There were other options, a vegetarian full english, a smaller breakfast option and I believe a couple of others which I don't remember, all with a tea or coffee to start the day (I can't comment on the coffee, but it was a really good tea). The owner was really nice and accommodating, as was the staff member who checked me in, and the location is Wonderful, its a nice little walk down from the train station and there are regular buses to both Falmouth and Truro from just down the road. All in all, my stay here was fantastic, I would highly recommend it and if I find myself looking for somewhere to stay in this area of the country again I'll be sure to come to the thirsty scholar again!

- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Very comfy bed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Authentic building with floors a little uneven. Please don't change them! Yummy Sunday lunch and breakfast cooked to order. Maybe a bit more light when eating breakfast but no big deal.

It's also a lovely place to stay in for a meal and have a drink in the evening if not wanting to venture out . Great music playlist on in background. If I ever go back to Penrhyn this is my first choice to stay.

- Andrew (10/5): Andy from Birmingham - I don't normally leave reviews but this was worth a decent review. Booked late on the day of arrival & they were 100% ready for my arrival. My room was clean, modern, bed was comfortable & the shower was good. Food was superb (I'd definitely recommend the King Prawn & Crab linguine) & breakfast was equally as good. Most importantly the staff were so pleasant (apologies I didn't catch anyone's name). Next time I'm in the area this will be the first place I look for.

- Catherine (9/5): Very pleasant stay, suited us for what we needed. Would recommend. Thank you. - We were really pleased to stay at the Thirsty Scholar as it was a lovely with history and not far from where we were going for a party . Adele was very welcoming as were the other staff. It was lovely and warm in the bedroom and nice light duvet and nice and clean and the room had all the basics that you need for a stay. Shower lovely and hot. Lovely. You could see every effort had been made to try and make it nice for guests. Breakfast was amazing - all fresh local food, could taste the difference and it was much appreciated. Nice not to be served the cheapest of ingredients - a first for us. As it was an exceptionally windy night the sash windows rattled noisily all night , which disturbed sleep but I don’t think this could be helped.
- Claire (8/5): Comfy & friendly - Lovely hosts, friendly & helpful. Tasty breakfast 😋
- Clive (9/5): Cosy accommodation in the heart of a fascinating little town - Spacious room
Excellent breakfast
Friendly hosts Can’t think of anything
- Thomas (10/5): Lovely honest place - good food, good drink, friendly staff and a great room -
- Alison (7/5): Good (with a few glitches) - Very friendly and helpful given I arrived a bit early. Room was very pleasant and quiet. Good breakfast. Not easy to park outside or near. Not sure the description made that clear. Paid carparks 10 minutes walk away. Beacuse it was a hotel, I wrongly assumed it would be open even if I couldn't yet get my room but it's keypad operated during the day and I had to contact the owner for the number, Would have been ok if that had been clear in advance.
- Bryan (10/5): Lovely place for a trip to Cornwall. - Just spent a wonderful week in Penryn staying at The Thirsty Scholar whilst visiting family,Everything about the TS is spot on, comfortable and clean room, excellent breakfast, and a really nice and varied dinner menu.Very pleasant staff and well run by Adele and Darren, would definitely recommend the placer. a few days away.
- Natalie (7/5): Great pub, lovely people with passion to get stuff sorted out. - Cosy pub with nice decor and super friendly staff. Bedrooms are super quaint, some with great views of the sea. Sadly our room had recently suffered from a leaking roof and smelt musty with some damp and mould. Struggling to dry it out so going to have to close the pub to do a full rip out and fit new bathrooms and redecorating throughout
- Bultitude (8/5): Very good - We were met by a friendly, attentive young man who made us feel very welcome.
The cooked breakfast was perfect!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect - We had a fantastic couple of days in Penryn and loved everything about our accommodation! Absolutely first class stay and more than happy to recommend The Thirsty Scholar. It was the perfect base for us.
- Lloyd (10/5): Would definitely stay again - Welcoming and hospitable staff, great beer and very good food. Staff rang and realised we had traffic challenges and would miss the kitchen so made sure we had sandwiches ready on arrival.
- Lynda (10/5): Perfect! - Lovely room, very clean with a comfy bed! Great atmosphere in the pub and the food was excellent. Hosts were very friendly. Would definitely stay again. Nothing!
- Heather (8/5): A welcoming and comfortable stay with superb food - Character property, very welcoming and excellent staff. The food was excellent in the evening. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was lovely Smell of frying from kitchen came through strongly to bedroom at night unfortunately.
- Samir (10/5): Outstanding - I must appreciate the hostess who looked after my daughter who was having problems with her university accommodation and had to shift out at short notice. They made her feel at home and she even dropped her to uni once as she missed her bus. It was a great help to my daughter who was living away from home and country for the first time. I'm very grateful Nil
- Tim (9/5): Superb - On a fairly quiet street, good sized room and en-suite shower all very clean. Would have like some juice with the breakfast.
- Mathew (10/5): Excellent accommodation, food and hospitality. - Room was very clean and the food was excellent. The staff were friendly and very accommodating There is no parking linked to the property, as it is on a very small one way street. However, if you get there at the right time you can park on the road, and there is a car park nearby offering free overnight parking
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely Visit - This is a return visit , so that says it all , food is great and room was of a good standard, WIFI issue though in room but in bar and restaurant area very good ,
- Carol (8/5): Hotel.com website not correct - Had a nice stay at the Thirsty Scholar after the hassle of gettng into the property and the parking. Your website said we could get in at 2.30 but couldn't get in until 4.00, although the owner did arrange for someone to come and let us in. Free parking your website states, there is no parking for the pub which again was a hassle for us as the Council carpark was quite a way with steep hills.
- Karen (7/5): We wouldn’t stay again - Location The bar menu didn’t match the photos on booking.com so misleading
- Andy (8/5): - Its position and great beer
- Janet (9/5): Really enjoyed our 2 night stay - Hosts were very friendly & the breakfast selection was great & tasty. Very slight damp smell in room
- Rachel (6/5): Fantastic friendly hosts - The host went over and above even cooking for us when the kitchen was closed as we arrived late.
Very friendly. The bed was too hard for me but the room was lovely and bathroom stunning.
