- Simon (5/5): Nice pub, average rooms which are quite expensive for what you get. - Great pub / beer. Lovely location. Good breakfast but stick to tea not coffee. Rooms tired and dated, very lumpy thin pillow.

- Denise (7/5): Would recommend. We enjoyed the stay overall and would stay again. - Room was nice but not much storage. Very comfortable and nicely appointed. Good size bathroom and plenty of hot water. Really liked the accommodation. Main meal was a little disappointing in so far as my fish was slightly burned....being sitting at the bottom of a fryer - me thinks for too long. Far too much pastry on my husband's steak and ale pie. Sweet was very good as was my husband's starter.

It is a lovely building with it is old charm. However we had the worse night’s sleep as the mattress was too old to be in use. It was a big shame considering how great everything else was.

- Neil (1/5): AWFUL WOODEN SHED WITH SPIDERS . NO HOT WATER /BATHROOM. 100meters IN GARDEN down a hill. - The food was good Booked a 2 bedroom stay B /B 1 night with shared bathjroom. 100 metres down hill was the garden wooden shed. That is it. No hot water. A bed with CHEMICAL TOILET 20 METERS AWAY. a torch was for the use of finding it at night. Instructions to put sawdust on poo after using!!!!Complaint made to her immediately. Totally ignored. Awful night. Took full money w/o consent. Awful woman. Amazed no one else had had this problem She blamed booking .co for overbooking. I could not leave as had drink with lunch.
Spiders on wall near bed.. Tap was a outside brass one on wall. Cold only. I told her not wishing to pay for this room but she took it anyway against my wishes. I booked a ROOM She said she was full. Never had such a terrible experience in a place. my wife fears spiders The roof on the corner was rotting and plants were coming inside . AWFUL You can keep the damn money you stole off MY CARD WITJOUT PERMISSION. You obviously care more about it than your customers. NEVER NEVER AGAIN.
- Kerry (9/5): A lovely place with a great vibe - A lovely friendly village pub, excellent atmosphere. Very quaint , excellent staff, great cat called pancake very homely vibe. Excellent break fast.
- Bignell (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent, room was beautiful and cosy, staff friendly and accommodating. Was a little pricey
- Donna (10/5): One night of complete relaxation and calmness - The on-site restaurant was a highlight. Breakfast featured a wide variety of options, from fresh fruit juice (Orange and Apple) a choice of cereals and yougurts. I also dined there one evening and was impressed by the quality of the food and the attentive service. The wine list was well-curated, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing meal.
- Lisa (10/5): - Everything
- Deborah (4/5): Sheepwash room - The location and the building.. 1.. on arrival taken upstairs and a mini flask of milk which we found out as it was plonked on the dresser and when we came to use it milk had obviously come out and it was stuck ti the furniture..
2. The beds were uncomfortable and pillows kept falling down the headboard..
3. No fan, very hot in the room, had to open a window, being in the Sheepwash room right above the entrance could hear all the goings on and traffic. The other guests on arrival walk past the door and very noisy.
4. At breakfast our table our table was dirty with bread crumbs from previous people and my place mat was dirty with some sticky stuff.. asked the lady to stop it and she cleaned it and said ... oh just bread crumbs... felt I couldn't ask her to clean the rest of the table.. felt she was abrupt and does not represent a clean dining area..
5. My husband's bed was squeaky and noisy and the mattress was flattened on the one side.
6. The towels we were given were falling apart on the edges..
7. Came away tired and it should have been a break for us..
Not a good 1st impression of this Pub ..

- Susan (8/5): Quiet and peaceful in picturesque little village in the Yorkshire Dales - The location was superb and the staff friendly and helpful. The meals we had there were first rate too The bar closed early. The towels weren’t changed during the whole 5 day stay even when left on the floor to be changed as is usual. Otherwise it was lovely and relaxing
- Spencer (3/5): Poor -
- Brian (7/5): Fauconberg - lovely location room was ok breakfast was ok child's bed was not ready, and the owner was horrible. Kept on moaning about money saying we should pay more, but i booked through booking.com, so any problems with price should be directed to them not moan at me in the reception area it made us feel horrible and ruined our day
- Richard (9/5): A really friendly atmosphere in a beautiful location. - Atmosphere of a very lively pub. All happy.
- Charles (8/5): Amazing staff and pub. - Staff were amazing and couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. Garden room was charming if a little rustic. The pub itself is fantastic and the breakfast was also excellent. Only applying to the garden room, it was a shame that the shower was outside in the outhouse. It is charming but personally I prefer a proper bathroom, especially when I’m on the road.
- Derek (10/5): nice friendly place to stay and in a nice quiet location , friendly staff , would stay there again - Excellent breakfast . and had plenty of choice room could have done with a shower cubicle
- Adam (7/5): Good -

- Ann (9/5): Lovely place. Hope to come again. - Loved the location.
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (9/5): A lovely stay in a great location - Lovely old pub, pleasant room and beautifully clean. Everyone was very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. There was nothing to dislike!
- Carolyn (9/5): Superb - Great room, close to national park. Loved the food, The bed had dips on the sides, making it less comfortable.
- Coleridge-smith (8/5): Stay - food, etc
- Marion (8/5): Very good - Well laid out room with fresh milk and water! My husbands meal was very poor and not as described on the specials
- Daniel (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (9/5): Apart from the small criticism above, everything was very good and I had a very enjoyable stay - The evening meal was very good indeed. The staff were all brilliant. Admittedly, I arrived almost at the end of the breakfast available time but was disappointed that the food was not freshly cooked.
- Paul (10/5): You must stay here - Everything, fantastic location/village, proper village pub/restaurant/hotel loads of character and staff couldn’t do enough for you just what you need after a long day motorcycle touring. Thank you all. Nothing
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Great place. Really friendly. Lovely food.
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable bed and beautiful room. Nothing
- Sherryn (9/5): Great stay - Warm welcome great food lovely staff Nothing to dislike really
- John (7/5): Ok - Nice location and friendly staff. Nice lunch Small room, mattress collapsed on one side. No main light in bedroom, just lamps. Breakfast had hair in it and milk was sour.
- Christine (5/5): Enjoyed our stay in a lovely pub with great food just a shame we were let down with the room. - Breakfast and evening meal were very good, staff excellent. The room was poor, very shabby paintwork, carpet poor, not very clean at all. Very disappointed, was not to a good standard at all.
- Stephen (7/5): A real find. - The breakfast was very good and served promptly at 0800, with a takeaway as I was still full after Friday's supper. There was a bath in the ensuite which was unexpected so was able to have a hot bath after a hot day. The room was spacious and cool with windows open on arrival. The soundproofing between rooms could be better, I could hear voices and music until midnight in the room next door. The evening meal was booked for 2000 but the place was very busy so I didn't start eating until about 2050.
- Stuart (9/5): Comfortable stay. Pack ear plugs if you not an early riser - Good food. Cosy pub. Friendly service. Nice area for cycling and walking Building is a few years old so it is not double glazed. Road noise level high if not used to it. Might be this time of the year with agricultural vehicles moving early?
- Catherine (7/5): Perfect for an overnight trip - Comfortable room, huge bathroom, friendly and helpful staff More veggie / vegan options at breakfast would have been great
- Thomas (7/5): An escape in a beautiful part of the world, great team and a great place to visit. - Excellent breakfast and pub food in the evening, great staff who were always very helpful, and a very beautiful part of the world. The garden room, while a bit unconventional, was a welcome moment of respite and escape. A nice experience and good value for money all around. The gas shower for the garden room wasn't great, tricky to turn on and ran cold (though they were upfront that they were having trouble with it when I arrived and I'm sure it's a temporary issue). The room could have been a little cleaner (in the darker corners) and some of the outdoor furniture in front of the garden room is due for a refresh. -- but no issues which majorly detracted from my stay.
- Adam (10/5): Lovely stay, the room was nice and clean and the food is excellent - Lovely 16th century property
- Wendy (7/5): Pretty village location - Old world charm. Beautiful location. Although waitress in bar was friendly the landlady felt unwelcoming. Strange atmosphere at breakfast. Felt very uncomfortable.
- Ross (3/5): I wanted to give my wife an experience to be treasured in a beautiful hotel, she was very angry! - Absolutely lovely, the breakfast was excellent. The shower did not work, the cold (only) water tap in the bedroom was a tiny trickle, the outside toilet door had no lighting at all and the door was warped so it could not be locked on the inside. The towels were untouched as we were unable to wash, let alone have a shower.
We had no idea we were to be given facilities reminiscent of a poorly run youth hostel.
- Francis (8/5): Very good -
- Ricky (10/5): The staff were very helpful.couldn’t do enough for you - The area is beautiful.people are very friendly It’s rustic charm
- Uma (9/5): Lovey place, great cheerful customer service, would stay there again. - Great breakfast, all freshly cooked. There was only a bath tub which did have a shower handle so if you wanted a shower/ rinse you could but you ended up getting the bathroom all wet. Otherwise great size bathroom and nice looking bath!
- Joshi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (9/5): Superb -
- Gordon (9/5): The location was very convenient for visiting friends and also seeing the sights in York - The breakfasts were excellent with friendly staff taking orders and serving. The room was comfortable and accommodating.
The staff were very friendly, jovial and helpful.
- Lee (10/5): Great value for money compared to other hotels etc in the area. Lovely garden to rear and plenty of seating inside and o - Beautifully set out both inside and outside. Food excellent, staff friendly.
- Sandra (9/5): Lovely B&B in beautiful village well worth a visit - Lovely location great food and very friendly staff Bedroom was a bit smaller than expected and was very difficult to get out of shower as door opening smaller than usual and shower floor very slippery.
A few cobwebs in wardrobe space
- Josh (5/5): Fantastic pub and staff, disappointing room for the price. - Breakfast and the staff were great. We love the Fauconberg as a pub. Soundproofing, cleanliness and comfort were below our expectations for the price.
- Pete (8/5): Excellent location with friendly staff - Location, staff, room was very clean The mattress in Troutsdale was far too unsupportive for me (I am lightweight too). I suspect it has seen better days and simply needs replacing.
- John (9/5): Nice Inn, excellent dining - a pleasant stay. - The Inn was very nice. The dinner was very good. Room was clean and comfortable. Not much. Bathroom door didn't latch but just a minor issue and perhaps a few minor are to be expected in an older building like this.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shamini (1/5): Bad -
- Amanda (10/5): A perfect village pub with great atmosphere, superb food, fabulously friendly staff and comfortable rooms. - Situation, traditional pub with fantastic staff
- Kevin (5/5): Passable - Breakfast excellent, staff very friendly and helpful.
Beautiful location! Very unhappy with the conduct of the Landlady as she embarrassed me in front of other guests in the dining room. There were a couple of issues that I asked her about at reception regarding lack of heating and problems with the lighting in our room. All of these issues should have been dealt with outside "earshot" of other guests (i.e., at reception, or in private) instead of using a loud voice in front of other guests in the dining room! Furthermore, in taking our food order, my husband and grandson were asked for their food choices before me and then I was deliberately ignored by her for the rest of our stay!!! All other staff excellent; perhaps the landlady can follow their example in future!!!
