Guest Reviews
- Luciano Carrasco (6/5): Pousada com ambiente familiar - Pousada com ambiente familiar. próximo a transporte público porém distante do centro histórico para quem quer visitar a pé. Café da manhã bem simples.
- Verified traveler (8/5): If you are looking for a cheap hotel, it is okay. - Very small and simple room I had. There is no door on bathroom, but only curtain. The bed is too narrow but it was okay for me, since I am not a fat guy. Wall is very thin so I heard every word my door neighbor spoke on the phone. The perfect thing was the breakfast. Overall, it was good for money.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Excellent location in a safe zone, clean hotel, nice old building. The furniture and everything is made on a very low budget.
- charalambosk2014 (6/5): Average Hotel - All the hotels were full or they did not book for only a night and so I was desprate to find a hotel. This one came cheap, at about 90 for a night and very near to be business destination. The room was clean and so was the shower and the bed sheets, thougn it needed some renovation. The breakfast was descent and the service good.
- demetrapanaretou (8/5): Value for money - The hotel is in a very good location, it's small and nice, the staff is very nice and helpful. The breakfast is very good, french type. Overall a very good experience. Rooms could be cleaner though.
A great value for money
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fair price, nice building, good service - For short stays this hotel is absolutely fine, overall clean, whereas not very modern and the bed was a bit noisy. Breakfast room has a cosy atmosphere and okay selection of food. Location is excellent.
- MatjazZ1 (2/5): Terrible! - Due to an event all rooms in Brussels were occupied, so I managed to find room in this hotel for a price of 534 EUR (including city tax) for 3 nights. When I came into my room I was strongly dissapointed. It was on the ground floor, the window was covered with white foil, so I had no view outside. Opening the window there were few bamboo trees and 5 m wall just in front of the window. Air in the romm was horrible as if it was closed for a long time and there was no ventilation.
In the bathroom there was black mold nearly everywhere. Furniture was old and color was torn away on many places. Bad was a disaster. There is a huge lack of maintenance!
People were friendly and breakfast was OK.
- federicomO2153NI (2/5): Worst hotel ever seen - The hotel is super expensive and extremely low quality. I paid 165 euros per night to get a cold, smelly and noisy room. The plate of the shower had a large black stripe of mold (which, to be fair, was cleaned after the first day). Everything in the room was either old, broken or both. The bed was hard as a tombstone. The owner was also extremely impolite with the guests. A morning, while having breakfast, the owner started shouting very loud (I mean really, really loud) against a guest that was complaining for the price (apparently higher than what originally agreed). The hotel is also plenty of unpleasant signals, for example one saying that the guests should not take away for lunch the food provided for breakfast. Note that the breakfast was really very sad and there was actually nothing to take away (at most an orange and slice of bread). Overall, I consider this hotel a scam. Again 165 Euros per night for such a low quality is unacceptable.
- Laurent (8/5): correct - hôtel calme, personnel serviable
petit déjeuner pas beaucoup de choix
lit un peu mou
- Oz_Star_18 (6/5): It is a good place to spend a few night on a budget - The good:
It has a nice little common area
The staff was friendly and helpful
There is always someone in the property to help you when needed
It is clean and secured
It is not far from the centre and train station
The neighbourhood was safe at night
The area is very quiet at night
To improve:
The bathroom facilities were aged
The Hotel is not easy to find when walking
Room furniture is very basic
- Elsa (8/5): Avaliação satisfatória. - Relativamente perto do centro. Quartos limpos.
- Hamoud (4/5): Achtung Bettwanzen - Ich konnte wegen Bettwanzen nicht schlafen
- Pedro (8/5): - Buena ubicacion, personal agradable, limpieza.
Buena relacion acorde con el precio.
- skou118 (8/5): Very happy - The hotel sabina is very well situated no far away from la grande place, manekenpis,Europeans parlement.
The people at the reception are very nice.
I will recommend for everyone want to come to Brussels.
- Ronei (8/5): Vale o quanto custa - Bom custo-benefício.
- Veronica (6/5): Don’t spect much - Was ok. Fair for the price. Location great. 10 min walking from central aérea. Great restaurant around. Hotel is fair.
- Bjarne Rask (8/5): - Is okay,
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Es war in Ordnung. Frühstück Buffet ganz klein. Bett geht
- Importviking (6/5): Good for the price - This is a typical budget hotel, so don't expect anything very fancy.
The room was small, the bed squeaked, but the mattress was quite comfortable. The room had its own shower and toilet, which were tucked away in a closet. The only ventilation comes from a small window. The room isn't well isolated for noise, which means that you can hear all that happens in the hallway and a bit of what happens in the next room. Facilities were also very basic. Yet, very important, the room was clean.
Breakfast was included and was very simple. Expect some slices of different kinds of bread, some cheese or chocolate topping and if you're lucky there's a mini croissant left for you. All with milk, orange juice coffee or tea. Sufficient if you just want to have something in your stomach to start the day.
Location is quite good. It's less than 100 meters from a subway station, on the outskirts of an area with some local shops and restaurants, but outside the traditional city center (about a 15 minute walk, or 3 stops with the subway).
Staff is generally polite and generally more friendly and willing to talk to those who speak French. Dutch (or Flemish) isn't spoken at all, while command of English is quite basic. Maybe that's why.
Internet definitely needs an upgrade. It's... very... slow... yet the connection was very stable.
All in all it's quite ok if you just want a relatively cheap bed while in Brussels.
- Ilias (8/5): - Everything fine, only negative factor --without elevator--
- Mahbubur (10/5): Excellent, better than expected - Very good location. Quiet. Friendly and supportive staffs. Room and bed a bit small though
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice small room on top floor.
Old bed, quite soft, but managed to have an OK night surprisingly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Reasonable and convenient - I travel for work to Brussels frequently, and I have stayed here before, since the location is fairly convenient and the price is quite decent. There are a few things that are not great - for me the primary issue is that there in no sound insulation of the room - you hear everything in the hallways. And the lift is a bit of a climb up, breakfast has a limited selection, but everything was good. The wifi was not great.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I would say this is more of a hostel than a hotel. The carpet in the room was very dirty and the bathroom was in a converted cupboard. What was really painful is that due to Brussels being rather busy over the 3 days I stayed, I was charged over 200euro per night for the privilege but had no choice. Some will say supply and demand, I would say totally unacceptable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Older hotel, that could do with updating. However, the service was excellent with staff very friendly and accomodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, kind staff, lovely breakfast room. Clean and comfortable.
- Chailovepeep (2/5): Ok - Room was very low maintained & kept. Very small room with no mirror apart from bathroom face mirror. Whole hotel activity is easily heard. Bathroom doesn't have lock but closes with the magnet but yes magnet doesn't hold it & v need to poop with door open cos pot is right in front of the door. Bathroom curtain is not cleaned & area is only suitable for easier kids or very skinny person. Felt cheated for the price we paid per night. Breakfast limited option.
- HallyHoHo (6/5): You get what you pay for.... - Hotel Sabina is very well located only a few metres from Metro Madou and within walking distance of the central tourist attractions and many of the European Institutions.
My single room was really tiny but had all one might need - at arm's length... Everything was spotless and the WiFi was good. The TV was very small. Breakfast was adequate and coffee was strong although on one morning of my stay the coffee machine was causing general frustration.
Staff were very friendly and bags can be left for pick-up after check-out.
- Alexxx072018 (2/5): Just a bed... - Except a good location and a bed, there is nothing to it...
Breakfast included, but poor and vegan...
First day cleaning then you are on your own...
Tv, but not working and small as a tablet...
Dusty...
Smells old...
Dirty courtains...
Working elevator from the first floor...
- frugalarnie (8/5): Convenient and cheap - The Hotel Sabina is an older hotel with medium sized rooms, a small bathroom, a small 22 inch TV. Room was recently painted. Key for door locks inside and out. Don't lock your friend in. Couldn't get out. Code for building as only has front desk until 11 PM. Light cold breakfast in the morning. Added pork for the price. In a nice neighborhood with restaurants. 15 min walk from Central Station.
Asciugamani abbondandi e puliti, nessuna sorpresa. Ottimo per sostare qualche giorno.
- karolayna1 (6/5): Good hotel with spider nets - Breakfast was very good. Rooms are old, walls have to be painted, but beds were brand new. Bedsheets were very clean. Bathroom with mold, but whipped. Generally, in room you can feel a specific smell an old building. But price and location is worth to stay there. I would book this hotel one more time.
- Eugen (6/5): Simple and practical! - Simple room, good wifi, the breakfast is served in a nice room! Location is good, near public transportation, relatively close to City center!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Convenient to transport, clean.
- Ben (8/5): nice, cheap and convenient - Overall a nice stay, the price was good, the breakfast was nice and the location made it easy to get to from the local metro system. The room was good, but the only let-down was the bathroom door which was loose and thus difficult to fully close.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good experience! Very pleasant staff and breakfast room
- PalmelaLopo (4/5): Once was enough - The hotel is near the metro station of Madou and a walking distance from the European district. Thera are many means of transport nearby. Internet works quite well. These are the positive features, as well as the Christmas decoratiion inside.
The rooms are small, with minimal and old furniture. Do not expect any kind of comfort.
TV worked no longer than 5 minutes, but then it switched off. Maybe I was clumsy and I did not have enough time to watch TV. So, I did not insist the 3rd time.
Then, the litter is not collected and finding someone at the reception is a mere coincidence. The hotel is closed between 23:00 and 7:00 (you enter the building with a code). But wwhen it is open it is difficult to find someone at the reception desk.
Breakfast is poor. The price charged was quite high when compared to other similar hotels.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quite fair - Good location and fine breakfasts.
- Dr Jamie L (8/5): Clean, central hotel ... but bit drab. - This is a good, reasonably priced hotel in the centre of town (Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten, Grand Place etc all within 15 mins on foot) with lots of bars, restaurants, shops nearby. Accomodation includes a basic but adequate buffet breakfast and has good coffee (I always prefer to stay in a place that throws breakfast in, for convenience’s sake!). The staff are all quite friendly, too, and the hotel feels very secure — the front door is left closed on an evening and residents are given the code to unlock it so can come and go as they please; if you’re checking in late you can ring the bell and they let you in.
The rooms themselves, however, are very very basic and a bit drab, and in the case of the single room I stayed in, micro! As it was this didn’t matter since I was in Brussels for a conference so just slept in my room, left early and arrived back late; but if you’re on a vacation and like to spend any real time in your room this may not be the place for you. That said the rooms are very clean — they just need a lick of paint, new curtains, better bedding and less dated furniture.
But, all told, my stay here was pleasant and I would stay again next time I’m in Brussels for work (though wouldn’t if vacationing with someone).
- scottwalmsley (6/5): Clean, good location but tired hotel - Check in-
I arrived at 1230, 30 minutes too early, however the reception said I would not have to wait long as the room was almost ready. At 1300 I was given the key and told that the room was upstairs.
I was not given any information on the local area, the room or how the TV worked (still figuring the TV out).
Room-
The cleaner was just finishing the room so I had to wait a few minutes. On entering it was clean, spotless in fact.
The room was tired, the furniture was as old or older than me with basic desk, light, phone (I’m guessing for reception) and towels within the bathroom.
The shower was small and old, but clean and hot with free soap and some small wash, towels were also included long with toilet roll.
It was clear that old things weren’t removed like the broke toilet roll holder or the shower door railing.
Breakfast-
For the price of this place getting any breakfast is a bonus, however see my picture, there were breads, croissants, cheese, yoghurts, cereal, juices and hot drinks, all great for the price (could have done with ham).
Location-
Located 10-15 minutes from main train station, city center attractions, buses, trams, subway and restaurants it location was Great.
Overall-
Check in- a little more information needed and better tourist information needed in the room.
Room- needs modernizing and things need to be checked to ensure they work.
Breakfast- increase range a little
Location- Perfect.
Overall it is Average, only minor things stop it being very good. I mean it’s not the Hilton but neither are the prices, so I’ve given a fair judgement, I’ve judged it on a Ford Focus as opposed to a Ferrari 360, good cheap and reliable!
- EvelienLa (4/5): Cheap but below average. - Never experienced such a quick and hasty check in. No warm welcome, no information about Brussels, nothing. The room was small, but that's totally fine. What wasn't was that the pillows were so old they were just flat pieces of fabric that more resembled a plank. The were dark hairs in the shower drain and the soap wrapping of the previous guests was still in there as well. The bed was hard and had a big bump in the middle. One morning the cleaner walked in without knocking. The breakfast was very, very average.
The guy who worked at the hotel was very friendly and kind, so he definitely does deserve five stars! Also, the hotel is within good walking distance of the city center. But that's about it.
- Sally (8/5): - The drinks machine is really noisy and made sleep impossible until someone switched it off at 2.30 am.
- LondonJoF (4/5): I guess you get what you pay for . . . - I did check the reviews first before booking, but perhaps no one got our room . . . which was, frankly, tatty, with wallpaper coming away from the walls. At least the bed linen was spotless (otherwise I would have walked). I'm not sure what 'fully equipped' means, but there was no safe, no kettle, no plug in the basin, the mis-matching towels were actually ragged and both hairdryer and telephone looked as if they might fuse the electrics if we dared use them . . . The shower dripped constantly, so we had to use the shower mat to muffle the sound. There was no hot water the second morning (and no apology, either). Despite reporting the shower not draining after the first night, it remained unfixed. And personally, I found the 9-inch step up into the shower cubicle really difficult to negotiate, especially with nothing to hang onto going up or coming down.
The bed was firm, but reasonably comfortable, and there were sockets by the bed (if not actual bedside tables . . .) A walk-in cupboard offered a rail with a few hangers, but there were neither drawers nor shelves for those of us who like to unpack.
Breakfast was adequate, with cheapest supermarket own-brand yoghurt, cereal, breads and mini-croissants, as well as cheese and apricot jam, but one morning juice (no, not freshly squeezed!), cheese and bread ran out and were not replaced (even though breakfast was supposed to run for at least another 30 minutes). But there were so many tables packed in the small, dark room that we were all sitting cheek by jowl, which meant it wasn't a pleasant experience.
It's not Sabina's fault that their recommended restaurant/bar (the Titanic) shut the premises dead on 9.30 on Friday night (and didn't appear to open at all on Saturday), but it did leave us with nowhere for a night cap (and certainly not our less-than-prepossessing room, even without the stern notices forbidding food and drink in rooms!)
Perhaps more worrying was that there was no safe in the room, or in reception that I could see, but not only was our room easily accessible from the fire escape, half the time there was no one on reception so anyone could grab any of the keys. So it was not what I would consider secure.
And be warned: the tall, narrow house is old and whilst there is a lift, it starts at the top of the first steep staircase and stops between floors (which is not uncommon), so there are always at least two flights up and down which to lug suitcases, so it’s not ideal for the disabled.
Finally, I was disappointed that there was virtually no tourist information available in the lobby (and nothing at all in the room), other than a walking tour pamphlet: there were no maps, or guides and rarely anyone in sight (although the one time we did track someone down, he was both pleasant and very helpful).
On the plus side - and yes, there were a couple - Sabina is a few minutes' walk from both Madou Metro and Congres tram stop, which meant it was really quick to get places. And the in-room wifi was excellent.
- Norman (6/5): Conveniently placed to all the facilities we used. - The hotel was clean and tidy and the beds comfortable. It is unfortunate that although there is a guest lift it was only accessible from the 2nd floor and then there was a further flight of stairs to reach our room. This made it hard work when carrying a large suitcase required for our overseas traveling. Breakfast was supplied and the choices were satisfactory.
- Yannick (8/5): Très bon rapport global (qualité/prix/situation) - Personnel accueillant et arrangeant. Aucun souci.
Temperatura alta. Si abres la ventana entran mosquitos. EL baño necesita renovación. El vending estaba sin productos
- Silvia (8/5): - Hotel very close to Place Madou, where many panel meetings for EU project Experts hold.
- 111nasim (8/5): Good location, clean, good breakfast - The hotel is like an old dorm, cute and clean, the breakfast is good too. Overall, good value for money. The only complain is that the day I was there, the shower was not good, the water pressure and temperature changed a lot. The location is great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place is very near to the Centre of Brussels, you can tour all the important places by foot if you are staying in this area
- MarTsan31 (4/5): Old hotel, poor quality - The building is old, with all the problems that come with this. The decoration is old-fashioned and clearly the last renovation was done a (long) while ago. Soundproofing is practically nonexistent - I could hear everything and everyone from my room.
The room was clean and OK for one person, in terms of size. There was a leak in the shower, which was really annoying since the bathroom was 3 feet away from the bed. I told them to fix it and they said they would - never happened (!) Also, I was on the first floor and whenever someone flushed the toilette, I could hear the water traveling all the way to the sewer!
The breakfast was pretty basic with a simple selection. I had to pay 50€/night (during Easter), but I guess everything is overpriced in this city. It was worth no more than 30.
If you care enough about accommodation and can spend some extra money on it, I would recommend choosing somewhere else.
- CottonCasual (8/5): Good Value - For 46 euros I had a good big room with ensuite and a simple self-service breakfast. It was clean, warm and everything worked, there's even a tiny lift.
The staff were friendy, helpful and multi-lingual.
The position is excellent, close to the park and palaces on quiet attractive side streets with plenty of cafes in the area
- Christophe (6/5): Avis - Lit beaucoup trop mou et chambre vraiment petite.
- ksn1122 (8/5): all positive - Nice hotel. Lift was there but climb 12 steps and then to lift and after out the lift, climb 10 more steps. Room was big for 4 and bathroom was ok with cold/hot water. Toilet was separate. Was very hot as top floor and windows were not opening because of big table in front of it, but we managed. Hosts were very good and cooperative. Bf was very good with chocolate waffles, fruits, yogurt, fruit, bread, cheese, juice etc. The location was not too bad. Grand place was 20 minutes’ walk. All positive.
- Joanna (10/5): Top choix a BRUXELLES - Très bonne expérience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Cheap decent accomodation - Prices don't lie, this wasn't a five star hotel. But for what I paid (50euros per night) it was a good stay at a surprisingly good location. Bed was decent, breakfast was decent, and the employees were very friendly. Other than the ultra slow wifi, I had no issues with this hotel, and I would book it again the next time I need a cheap accomodation at Brussels that is close to the city center.
- Ann (8/5): Comfortable place close to metro and historic site - Price was good. Breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and helpful
- Gintaras (6/5): Cheap way to feel spirit of older times - We got lost trying to find our rooms - the numbering system is very complicated. In hotel you can find many details from old times, even crackling stairs:) Rooms were not very comfortable, but keeping in mind cost - worth staying. Also you can smell fresh backed croissants in the morning for breakfast.
- Dean (6/5): Not a neighborhood I'd want to live in - Only time in Brussels but area was not very good. Hotel itself seemed secure and had old charm. Nice simple breakfast.
- Lauren (6/5): - One night stay before my flight the next day. Room could use a little updating but everything was very clean and all required necessities were available. It was a little farther away from the central train station than I originally thought when I booked but also 60 € less than my previous Brussels hotel so I was fine with it! Shower was nice and hot and the breakfast was nice in the morning.
- Hiu Yau (6/5): - Weak wifi connection
- Verified traveler (6/5): - no frills budget hotel- good value for 1 night short stay. not the most comfortable place to work but there are many cafes nearby
- David (8/5): Nice hotel a little bit out of the centre. - Good hotel with comfortable room and personal welcome on arrival. Downstairs and breakfast room very good, and the breakfast food was very good. The bathroom in the room I stayed in needed an update - everything was working but quite old/tired. The curtains did not fit the window properly, however, the room was warm and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (4/5): below average - The door to the toilet is like a double wardrobe door with only small nobs to close it, this was rather awkward, bathroom was very basic, also the soap left a slippery residue on your hands. me and my girlfriend got the top floor with small windows looking onto the side roof.. so couldn't look down onto the road, nor could we see the building opposite us. positives -the bedding was clean and comfortable and the staff appeared polite also price, but i will look for another hotel next time i come to brussels.
- Thomas (6/5): Pleasant stay in pleasant no-frills hotel - Booked a single room and came exactly as described - single bed, 3m x 3m room, ensuite bathroom with shower. Step up from a hostel, and for a solo traveller it was all that was needed. Room was warm, clean, and a place to rest after a day sightseeing.
Had breakfast on a couple of mornings, typical continental but for £5 was worth the money.
Had no problems with wifi in room, and no problems with shower temperature.
- Alan (6/5): Simple 2 star hotel - Simple basic hotel. Not too far from metro stop 'Madou', otherwise bit of a trek to grand market square I.e. Downtown. Breakfast is 5 euro and is a simple continental Buffett style. I had a single room and it was tiny. There is a street with lots of restraints nearby.
- Fernando (6/5): No lifts - The hotel is well located and have a good price. The worst problem for me it was because there's no lift, neither for the luggage. So I had to go up 4 high floors carring my suitcases myself. If your stuffs are heavy, avoid this hotel.
- Anders (6/5): Absolutely worth the money - If you are looking for a fancy place to stay, this is not for you. The room I had was small, the elevator not practically located, there was no toilet door, and the low water pressure made showers take longer than usual.
If you're aware of these things, however, and you accept them (who needs a toilet door in a single room anyway...), then you may find it's a really good bargain, well worth 60 Euros. The room, with bed sheets and towels, was very clean, the breakfast was definitely okay, staff were friendly and helpful, and it was very quiet and peaceful. The immediate location may not be very thrilling, but the hotel is not far from the more interesting areas of Brussels. I would definitely recommend it.
- lap kwan (6/5): Austerely uncomfortable, though staff are nice. - A tiny room, a reception desk with lots of notices telling customers not to do this and that, fine of 50 euros for eating inside your room, one of the notice told.
- Michal (8/5): Great location and you get your money's worth! - Very clean room, nice staff, enjoyable and edible continental breakfast! Great for tourists!
- Reagan (8/5): Nice hotel - We had a real nice two nights in one of the top rooms of this hotel. It's a little bit of a walk away from the main train station but a metro just around the corner made it easy. Rooms were quiet and enjoyable
- Robert (6/5): Basic Room - Inexpensive basic accommodation. You need to go up some stairs to get to the lift and when you get out of the lift you need to go up more stairs to get to the room. A positive is that it is near a Metro station so you can get around the city.
- Verified traveler (6/5): satisfied - This place was ok.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good location and value - I found this hotel to be clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and adequate. There are several cafés and restaurants nearby and it is an easy walk to the Grand Place and central station.
- Zeljko (4/5): To expensive for two stars and poor breakfast - Very poor breakfast and small room.
- Elvira (6/5): fair enough - I stayed one night for leisure in Brussels with my cousin. The hotel is decent, no much to say. Location is good. Kind staff. Very heavy entrance door please consider to modernise it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value and good location - Very good value hotel in a good location just out of the centre of Brussels right next to Madou Metro station.
