- angeladC466AK (10/5): Breakfast service - Our most notable experience here at the hotel is our waitress, Angela. She is very welcoming when we come down to breakfast. Angela goes out of her way to make you feel at home. She even helps me with speaking Italian correctly.

All staff is extremely friendly, but the best experience is starting the day with the delicious breakfast buffet served by warm-hearted Angela and her team!

Breakfast was good, especially the pastries but I wish they would open earlier (breakfast starts at 7:30). They had very nice outdoor areas. There were no USB connections in the room. - Y8087WClauraa (2/5): Hotel In Need of Makeover. - First impressions are of a grand aristocratic hotel, lots of artefacts and historic photos , then it goes wrong. The hotel has been kept in a time warp. Very dated and shabby. Rooms in need of a massive renovation, dull decor, one plug socket, leaky shower onto the floor, powdered milk, wooden sticks to stir hot drinks. Breakfast was mixture of good and bad. The room very clean and bright, plenty of pastries, coffee, fruit. On the other hand hot food cold, if you want fried egg, other than cold scrambled that’s on offer then it costs €5 extra. After debating with a very surly waitress she produced a menu from somewhere stating that this was extra. The staff on reception are very helpful, even moved us when the cigarette smoke from our next door neighbours came through the adjoining door. The location is perfect, the view was good however I would not have put our room in the deluxe category it was supposed to be. Overall I wouldn’t go back to this hotel, maybe if it had a major upgrade, but there will be someone out there that just might like this kind of place.

La sua professionalità, la sua gentilezza e la sua grande capacità di relazionarsi con le persone hanno reso il nostro soggiorno bellissimo. Le proposte per la cena, per un soggiorno di 7 notti, risultano un po' ripetitive. La freschezza degli ingredienti potrebbe essere migliorata.

Ni hablar que nos bañamos con agua fría. Fuimos a Reclamar y de nuevo nadie hizo nada. Le falta mantenimiento general al hotel, no corresponde por el precio que pagas la noche. Lo peor, aparte de que nos dieron una habitación sabiendo que no estaba en condiciones, fue el trato del personal. Ignoraron cada pedido que hicimos. No nos ayudaron en nada, solo maltrato.

- Explorer Tom (8/5): We spent a pleasant Christmas holiday with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. - This hotel is located at the entrance to the old town of Taormina and is perfectly placed for strolling access to the vibrant heart of the town. The views of Mount Etna are spectacular on cloudless days. The staff were friendly and efficient. The bedding was a bit flimsy and could have been a bit more 'cosy'.

When trying to sleep you heat the mosquitos flying around. We were eaten alive with mosquito bits. The room next door complained of the same issue with multiple mosquito bites. Could not sleep both nights due to issue. Bed uncomfortable. Worst stay ever! Please stay elsewhere

Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und lecker, mit einer schönen Auswahl an süssen und herzhaften Speisen. Wir erleben selten, dass der Kaffee (aus dem Automaten) ungeniessbar ist.

Fresh flowers were a nice touch, but not enough to pep up the place. The room: Dusty, musty drapes. Walls severely marked up and chipped. Sagging , yucky mattress. At least there was no nasty carpet in the room and it was clean. Better views on the side facing Mt Etna. Excellent breakfast and very helpful, pleasant staff.

I must say we were looked after the wonderful Angela. She went above & beyond for us. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Her social skills are incredible. - X5545LNalanc (8/5): Not the best, but not all bad. - I have said it was good, but it is only just better than average. The hotel is well located for exploring this part of Taormina, a 20 minute walk from the Greek/Roman Theatre. However, it is nowhere near the beach. The views from the hotel are panoramic looking out over the bay and also Mount Etna (on a clear day). I agree with other reviews, the hotel is a little tired. The rooms are spacious and clean, our bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was a slightly different story. The shower was mounted on the side of the bath, so the depth of the shower is simply the width of the bath, If you are a large person, you will struggle in this shower. Fortunately I am not. Another problem was the lighting around the mirror, it was all down one side, making shaving the right side of my face difficult. Toilet flush is very loud and we knew whenever our next door neighbours had used their facility! Small TV in a large (old) enclosure, lots of channels but none in English. The mini bar was pricey but well stocked. Breakfast was good with lots of variety, but this did not extend to a disappointing coffee machine. Lots of choices but the quality of the coffee was very poor. Highlight for me was both the custard filled croissants and the Granita Con Brioche - wonderful. Fresh fruit was also very good. The pool area is large and a short distance from reception down a lot of steps. The pool was closed as it was November, I understand it is not heated. The sunbeds were few in number and all very dirty (bird droppings mainly). No towels available, had to take them from our room just so we could sit on the sunbeds. It does however provide some of the best views of the surrounding area. Staff are all very friendly and helpful, especially reception and restaurant. Only exception was the evening barman. He looked like he had been sucking lemons all day, and would rather we were not there. Drinks in the bar (which is a table set up just outside the main dinning area) are expensive. All in all a comfortable stay, but I have stayed in much nicer four star hotels.

- Rebecca (10/5): - An absolutely beautiful view of the sea as well as Mount Etna from the balcony. The breakfast was exceptional, the range and quality of the food was great - including granita and brioche. The breakfast staff were also particularly great, very welcoming and very fast to clear plates away. The Excelsior gardens were also an unexpected delight to walk through. The Excelsior gardens could have been better signposted

- sarahrinUK (8/5): Lovely but needs some improvements - This is a lovely hotel in many ways: faded grandeur, old fashioned charm, amazing grounds. Amazing views. Here are the things wrong though: - the pool is incredible. Huge and lovely and stunning views. But it seems ridiculous that it isn’t heated. This means that it is far too cold to make use of for 6 months of the year. It’s such a waste because it could well be the best pool in Taormina but if you chose this hotel because of the pool out of season, it’s a complete waste of money. Please get it heated! Also, the pool attendants were almost non existent, 2 out of three times nobody was there to provide towels. - decorating: it could do with an upgrade. My single room had a shower that was very awkward: an attachment fixed to the side wall so it was hard to move around while having a shower. More pillows would be nice. - breakfast - the woman greeted me at 10am, near the end of breakfast one morning, when it was almost totally empty and was trying to get me to move from my table set for 3, to a table set for 2. I mean what a nice way to greet someone on their own arriving for their first breakfast! Very petty. Also, why keep the net curtains closed in the breakfast room? It’s so lovely to see the view! - sockets: there was only one socket in my room, miles away from the bed.
