• Curious44619387498 (2/5): Worst experience in life. Poor-quality and overpriced! - Mt Fuji View Ooike Hotel at FujiKawaguchiko was the worst hotel that I've went. Price paid was not the same as quoted. They added extra unknown fees. The dinner's serving time is from 7pm. Due to flight delayed, we sent them an email around 1pm to cancel the dinner plan and requested to deduct the dinner cost. However, they refused to deduct the dinner cost. Then, they added the extra unknown fees. We tried to communicate with the receptionist about the extra fees when making payment. The staff who can speak English and Mandarin did not wish to help solve the settlement issue. Instead, they put a Japanese staff who can't speak and understand English to solve the settlement with us. We have spent much time in translating and communicating but problem was not solved. We felt disappointing, tiring and frustrated about the experience we met. Room has bad smell, which made us more disappointed to this hotel. Totally not worth for the value! There were negative reviews about the hotel in Tripadvisor and we regret for not noticing their negative comments before we encountered the worst experience at this hotel. In conclusion, Please please check their negative reviews before booking with them. #Worst experience ever.

Staff who can speak English is not serving guests at receiption area, spent much time in translating and communicating with Japanese staff who cannot understand English. This is an overpriced hotel ever.
• systemsgs (2/5): Dissatisfied and Disappointed - Am staying at the hotel and my girlfriend really like the conditioner and we call the reception if we can purchase a bottle but the reply it’s not for sale and refused when we ask if we can have the bottle in our room, they ask us to go to the public bath to top up the conditioner, we are very dissatisfied and disappointed, will seriously consider staying in this hotel in future
• 494AK95 (10/5): Beautiful, relaxing hotel offering Japanese style room. - We came here for only one night. The staff were nice, there was a beautiful relaxing lounge we stayed in until check in where they served free juices and coffee and snacks. It’s about 5 minute drive from Kawaguchiko station, and 20 minute walk. There are Fuji views but unfortunately the day we went it was very cloudy so we could not see. The rooms we chose were the ryokan style rooms. They were lovely, clean and very comfortable. They provided kimonos and slippers in the room. We booked in with the private onsen which was so beautiful and relaxing. After we also booked a massage which was with an elderly couple in our private room, but I would not recommend. The onsen though was beautiful. This was all for an extra charge. Breakfast was nice with a mix of Japanese and western. It’s right beside Lawson convenience store which on a clear day has an amazing view of Mt Fuji.
• sashiex (2/5): I felt deceived for the price I paid for this hotel - I am sure many travellers who booked this hotel was after their Mount Fuji view inside their rooms. I, too, was chasing after this spectecular view and I deliberately spent more to reqeust and booked a room on the 4/F (Annex Building / Western Style) to ensure the best view of Mount Fuji. However, upon checking into the room (I was assigned room 471) , I discovered the window is not exactly clear, it has crisscross paterns imprinted into the glass. This was never mentioned on both Agoda or the official hotel website. I have checked and re-checked again when I sat dumbfounded inside the room and I was 100% sure none of this was mentioned. I messaged my friend who recommended me this hotel and she stayed on the same floor as I did and her room was without obstruction. I felt that this was extremely unfair becuase we paid the same price for the hotel, and that this was not mentioned in any fine print of small prints. All of my photos from the room was obstrctured by the patterned glass and despite the fact that we were lucky to see a beautiful Mount Fuji under nice weather, the photos taken from the room were all hardly presentable. I felt like I was decieved. If I was told during booking and payment of this hotel that the windows had some sort of patterned glass and will obstruct the view of the landscape I wouldnt have booked this hotel in the first place. The price I paid for this hotel was nowhere near worthy with the obstructed view. Please, if you were to book this hotel, please write to them and ensure that you were given a room without obstructed views, otherwise, do not bother spending your money here, I was so disappointed and really regretted my choice.

• Z6060LOwillw (6/5): confused - I lost my t-shirt at the hotel but when I noticed and tried to get it back, the front desk told me it was not found. I don’t know why they lied to me because I know for sure it was hang in the closet. And it’s just normal standard to keep customers lost belongings for a few days.
• 498PETERL (10/5): Great experience at a traditional but modern hotel. Excellent value for money. - Ooike hotel is over 50 years old, but recent renovations make it looks like new. Conveniently located near the Kawaguchiko lake, at walking distance from a Bus-stop. Take from there the sightseeing bus that goes around the lake and you will be able experience most of the sightseeing places in a convenient way. Staff at the hotel is very friendly. We stayed two nights in a traditional room, sleeping on tatami and futon blankets. It's really an experience that i can recommend. Slept very well. The hotspring batch is rather simple but traditionally Japanese and just like it should be. Clean and efficient. Worth to mention is the astonishing view of mount Fuji from the hotspring bath as well as from the room. Breakfast is sufficient and elaborate. There is nothing negative to mention at all about this hotel. Great value for money. Our stay was excellent.
• TopCat1984 (8/5): Lovely but needs improvement - This hotel has so many positives but also a few negatives which aren’t major but for the price you pay shouldn’t be happening Positives - amazing views of Mt Fuji but had to pay a lot extra for this Breakfast was plentiful and lots of veggie options The staff were super helpful and answered all our queries. English for some staff was not great but we got by The onsen was incredible. We used the public outdoors one and paid extra for the private one as a couple. The cost was reasonable and both onsens were beautiful and clean. Free shuttle bus service to the station but you need to book at least one day in advance. Room was spacious and had free water every day in fridge. Room was temperature controlled very nicely. We stayed when highs of 2 degrees and the room was still very warm. Location was brilliant. Short walk to lake and cable car and boating area. Negatives - odd sewer smell from the shower Not the cleanest of rooms. The spare bedding such as the pillows had stains on them and were disgusting. Bed not comfortable. I appreciate this is a traditional Ryokan so no bed but we had to put extra bedding down to make it bearable. Rooms are dated and need refurbishment. Again I appreciate this is a traditional hotel but there is a fine line between traditional and grubby. Unfortunately I would say this hotel is leaning towards the latter I did really like this hotel despite its setbacks, it just needs some tlc
• Mouriska (8/5): Crazy Fujisan View - We stayed at the Japanese room with open air bath and Mt. Fuji view located at 3rd floor! The view was beautiful, can see the Fuji mountain at the room and at the open bath! The room was big, and of course the price was little bit high too! Overall the room was clean but some place of the room need to do small maintenance (some walls was little bit old). The room included free drinks every days (free beer😍). The check in and check out service was fast, some of the front desk staff can speak English. This hotel doesn’t have a Mt Fuji view from the outdoor onsen area, only indoor onsen with view on the Mt Fuji. We stayed 4 nights, I think the breakfast can improve much more... I got 4 times same breakfast! Make me really felt boring with the breakfast. Bell boy team can improve little bit more too. After check out, no one help me to take my luggages to the carpark. I was with 3 big luggages. I think the Hotel can improve more things to guest! (add bicycles to the guest use).
• spookspa (8/5): Very relaxing - Had a wonderful relaxing night. Staff were wonderful and friendly. Room was very comfortable. Sadly Mt Fuji hid behind a mist and fog layer so not visible during the stay so cannot comment on the view. The onsen a wonderful way to relax after a lot of travel.
• PrisnaP1 (8/5): Mt.Fuji View - The room is quite big for two. They provided yukata for us which can be worn around the hotel to public bath and restaurants. The public bath is not so elegant but ok. For indoor bath you can enjoy the view of Mt. Fuji. Good food both breakfast and dinner. The staff are friendly.
• alex501 (4/5): Over-all Poor Quality - I had a pleasant walk from the train station to the hotel, all downhill. After check-in, I discovered that my room was very small and not very clean. The walls and floor were old looking and needed a good cleaning. The bed was small (I know, I’m in Japan) and bed covers were old and tattered. The bathroom had a sewer odor. On all the other floors of this building, the rooms located in the same area as my room were being used as storage. Over-all, this hotel doesn’t have a Mt Fuji view from the spa area and the service was POOR at best. I really enjoyed Japan and I will return, but not to this hotel.

The price is ok compared to the location and the services (1 indoor onsen with view on the Mt Fuji + 1 outdoor onsen) available. People at the hotel are friendly and helpful. The hotel is 15min walk from the Kawaguchiko Station, 5min from the lac lake and 10 from restaurants/Konbini/bike rental
• MadeleineD375 (8/5): Great night in Kawaguchiko - This place is really nice and the onsen is great. The room was a little disappointing because it was not the picture that we had from Expedia(not well conserved, little old looking). Keep in mind that is a hotel that make traditional dinner and breakfast but depends on where you book you reservation you should email the hotel because we couldn't book the dinner the same night. The hotel facilities are great and people are really nice.

Quite easy to find, about 20min walk from the Kawaguchiko station. The breakfast was a buffet with quite a lot of choices. Would definitely recommend. Sadly I didn't book a room with the view but it was still worth every penny.

Saw lady holding heavy luggage and bell boy looking and watching.. Young Bell boy was thinking to help but old man standing in front of gate stop the other... Never saw such poor support to guest in carry luggage... Would never recommend any of my friend to visit this hotel... Not worth the money at all.. Only good experience was mt fuji view from room.. House keeping OK..

The music in the corridor played loudly - thankfully it was switched off at night. The hotel itself was very dated and not at all modern like pictured.

• Verified traveler (10/5): Ooike Hotel review - April 2018 - Ooike Hotel was fantastic. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room and it was very large and comfortable. The outdoor public baths were fantastic. Really beautiful. The only thing is that this hotel is not very close to anything. It’s about 15min walk from the station and on the opposite side of the lake. There are not many restaurants nearby that open early or late so you really have to plan. Also, the local bus only runs until 5pm and can be very crowded, so you really need to plan your departure and arrivals every day. Other than that, we had a beautiful Mt Fuji view room.

The price was just usd100 less than maruei and it didn’t include dinner or breakfast . The private hot spring didn’t have a Mt Fuji view and the staff was less helpful. I won’t choose this ryoken to stay for this price.

• Rodion (10/5): A few annoying factors but overall great - Was tempted to give it less than 5 stars because of two annoying factors but decided against it because hopefully the hotel will just fix these silly little rules and then it would be perfect. The issues were: 1. "1 people 1 towel" policy. Dumbest rule I've seen in a hotel honestly. If you drop your towel in the spa and its soaking wet then bring it to the reception and ask to change - they WILL NOT DO IT. Not even talking about having another towel for other needs, they will not even exchange to a clean one. Dumb and almost made me leave a negative review. Fix it ASAP before people get annoyed. 2. 10am Checkout is usually for the cheapest and worst hostels, any half respected hotel has at least 11am or 12. Again little but annoying. In the end I have forgiven these due to the view (had Mt Fuji view) and how calm and traditional our Japanese room was. 100% worth the money to try for 1-2 nights.
• Tan837 (2/5): Terrible Service - From the time we received no assistance in bringing our luggage to our rooms when we checked in to zero prescience at the front door when we checked out encapsulate how poor this so called Ryokan is. No-one came to our room to make welcome tea. Basically no welcome!. Very un-Japanese in trying to squeeze every cent they can while we were there. Asked for extra pillows and reply was there was a charge for extra pillows. Each person limited to one. Food was below average. When we purchased food items as gifts for friends, no extra bags were given so that we can present the gifts to our friends, and when asked for extra bags, the shop assistant basically threw the bags at us. Horrible ryokan. Avoid if you can. Never made to feel more unwelcome and unappreciated in a ryokan as this one. Have stayed in more than 10 ryokans over the years. First bad experience.
• Kevin (8/5): - The room was big and very clean, luckily the view of mt. Fuji was clear and beautiful. Onsen was great as well but the outdoor one was by far the better one.
• lukew314 (6/5): Nice, Private Onsen - Stayed with my girlfriend for 2 nights. Quite expensive but big plus was our private onsen. Small but could squeeze both of us in there. Due to weather we only saw the mountain for about an hour, but the view was great. would have been beautiful to sit in the onsen with the window open and a mountain view. Beds (futons) were comfy and room was cosy.

• Chiu Fung (8/5): - due to the last min booking and availability, only the last room available with no Mt. Fuji view. unfortunate to see an insect in the room and it's a bit dirt (chocolate stick on the phone)..
• GL (6/5): Great onsens, but disappointing room - Stayed in the Business Double room in their Main building. The room definitely needs updating. Looks old and the washroom is like those portable ones. But the public area of the hotel looks good and the onsens are great, especially the one on the 5th floor that has a view of the Mount Fuji. We paid extra to use the private onsen which worths the money and this option was one of the reasons we picked this hotel. Hotel staff was the best among the three Japanese hotels that we stayed during this trip.
• chao m (8/5): Onsen retreat in mt Fuji - Overall experience was okay. The staff were polite and there was a shuttle bus. The onsen looked much better in the photos then in person and was closed from the morning to 3pm which was annoying.

Great view of mount fuji from the room and it was really spacious and had the necessary amenities. Only thing which i did not really enjoy was the buffet breakfast. Limited selection.

A beautiful setting, a traditional room and the best meal I have had in Japan - served traditionally in the room. A perfect place to relax and only a 10min walk from the busy and interesting shopping and tourist district of Miyajima. I would stay here again.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Onsen hotel near Mt Fuji - The hotel is great and easy to find as we are driving to the hotel. The view from our room is spectacular, we can see Mount Fuji right from our room and bathroom. Room is very large and clean. The only small issue we have is with the air condition as it gets pretty warm at night, but it doesn't seems to be working well.
• Peter (10/5): Perfect hotel for visiting Mt. Fuji - The room had a panoramic view of FujiMountain and a private hot spring tub. Room itself was very large and had plenty of conveniences. Staff members were exceptionally courteous and helpful. Highly recommend the breakfast.
• Hilary (6/5): Ryokan - not the welcoming experience expected. - A little disappointing. This was an introduction to a Ryokan for my son. Peaceful and relaxing. A traditional breakfast but no explanation from any staff. Fortunately, I have stayed in a ryokan before and have some knowledge of the etiquette thanks to the helpfulness of the staff. Not a welcoming hotel and and made to feel we had to leave before 10 in the morning.
• Jamie (8/5): Awesome Mt Fuji View - We arrived at the Hotel after visiting the Herb Hall which is only about 10mins walk away. The hotel is quiet and the staffs are friendly, explaining all the things you need to take note. The private onsen is charged at an additional fee and we love the surrounding. Waking up with a MT Fuji view the best thing we experience during the stay. The hotel is about 15-20mins walk to Kawaguchi Station and they provide shuttle there at 9am/9.15am/9.30am.

• Verified traveler (10/5): My best experience in Japan - The hotel location is very good. First I took a taxi to the hotel from the train station and it was about 7 mins. Actually the hotel would arrange shuttle bus for you. They have shuttle bus at 9am, 9:30am, and 10am to the train station. It makes very easy for tourist. Hotel facilities are very good especially the hot sprint facing the the mountain Fuji. There are also outdoor hot sprint on the 1st floor. Overall, it's my best experience staying in this hotel in Japan. I would come back again if I travel to Fuji in the future.
• Olivia (10/5): Pretty Japanese style hotel with great views - This place was very nice. Room was clean and spacious. I had a lovely view of Fuji-San from the 4th floor. Onsen on 5th floor was delightful. The staff were very friendly and super helpful. I would stay here again
• Shi Qi (10/5): Great location! Great hot baths! Awesome! - I booked this hotel very last minute, 2 days before I'm heading to Kawaguchiko. I initially booked another hotel in Gotemba, but I realized it was too far away from the sation it was impossible for me to walk over with my luggages, and this hotel had a SALE! It was so close to the lake and the staion, it is wonderful! Other than that fact, this hotel has numermous hot bath in different designs provided for free for customers, one of it was on 5th floor and it has Mount. Fuji view!!! I was soooo shocked! It was awesome to enjoy hot bath and viewing the Great Mt. Fuji in the same time! Other than that, at the other side of the building, there was this one Mt. Fuji viewing room in this big balcony. Hotel staff was not very good at English was tries very hard to help us, I was impressed as well! This is a wonderful stay!
• Benjamin (4/5): Pretty town to view Mount Fuji, not the greatest h - First impressions of this hotel want the best when we arrived, the staff who greeted us was not helpful. It wasn't until after we wandered around town and returned that another staff member provided us two maps of the town from behind the counter and informed us of restaurants other establishments in the area. However, this was at 7pm after we approached an empty front desk and waited for 5min before someone arrived. We stayed on the second floor, which a big group of other tourists did. The walls were thin and we were able to hear their yells across the hallway late at night (midnight) and early in the morning (5am). The hotel is located about 30min walk away from the train station (if you have to drag your bags around), they have shuttles but only run on certain times. When we were leaving we asked whether the shuttle can drop us off at the station at 8am but was told they only run 3 times a day at 9, 9:30 & 10 so we had to pay around 1000 yen for a two minute taxi ride. At check-out, we were charged 300 yen of 'onsen tax' each, which we were not informed of at check-in

• Verified traveler (4/5): Underwhelmed. Will not recommend to friends. - The room was good, spacious and comfortable and when Fuji-san was not obscured by clouds, could see it from the room. However, being the second floor means your visuals will get invaded by a carpark, wires, trees etc. I booked thinking that although dinner was not included, breakfast was (as promoted on web). However, it turned out the 'offer' was for the room only. Definitely the least value-for money place i have stayed in. A friend chose to join me in the 11th hour and had to pay extra 6000 yen. The hotel is old and seems tired. Service was standard Japanese (meaning better than everywhere else perhaps) but pales in comparison to other places I have stayed in Japan.

• Mallory (6/5): very nice, amazing open air bath with view of Fuji - Very nice, very clean hotel, with kind and courteous staff. They have a number of public baths to choose from including some outdoor ones and one on the top floor with a great view of mt. fuji. There is also a kareoke bar right across the street. The only thing is that the restaurants are all about a 15 min walk away except for a few but those few are very expensive. So if you want to eat you are gonna have to walk a bit to get food. Only like a 15 min walk from kawaguchiko station too so it is pretty convienient. Also a very short walk to a sake brewery and a gem museum. Very nice. A little pricy though but the whole area is pricy.
• Rodolphe (10/5): Great price and great view - we were here for family holidays , this Hotel has great view of Mont Fuji from Top floor public bath and some rooms , they have both indoor bath and open air bath for hire . Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. Price is reasonable . Please notice that is not very easy to get food after 7 pm in this neighbourhood .
• Jennifer (10/5): The height of relaxation - We came for a one night stay to view the last of the Fujikawaguchiko Winter Fireworks and the hotel was amazing. There is a complimentary shuttle service to pick you up from the station upon arrival and our room was stunning, complete with our own personal onsen and traditional yukatas! They also have outdoor and indoor baths amongst beautifully manicured gardens for public use, along with extremely attentive staff. We couldn't have asked for anywhere better to end our Japanese holiday.

They picked us up from the train/bus station and brought us to the room, where you could see the mountain directly from the room window. The room is Japanese style, very comfortable. The 5th floor hot spring offers a great view of the mountain while relaxing.

• Daniel (10/5): lovely getaway from the city - very peaceful getaway from the city. the hotel staff was so super accommodating and welcoming. the hotel is located in a quieter part of the area - a short ways away from the side of the lake where it is tourist heavy. i really enjoyed the quiet and the private views of mt. fuji were fantastic!
• Jesus (10/5): Wonderful experience - The hotel was wonderful and the staff was extremely attentive. The public baths are separated for men and women and they provide every single toiletry and bathroom items you can think of. Because of the many outdoor and indoor public baths, people wonder around wearing a Yukata or Kimono. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood with just a few other businesses nearby. There are a few restaurants as well no more than 20 minutes on foot. The easy way from the train station is a long 20-30 minute walk through some steep areas and narrow roads. They have a courtesy shuttle in the morning and in the afternoon or you can arrange for a quick taxi ride at the station as well. The rooms are Japanese style with tatamis and both mattresses and chairs at floor level. The were very comfortable and the rooms were kept clean and seemed inviting. Our room had an amazing view of Mount Fuji. If you visit take advantage of the invigorating hot baths and walk around the lake area just a few minutes away. They were strict with the check in and check out times but extremely courteous at all times. I would go back again without thinking it twice.
• Julie (8/5): Very friendly and helpful staffs - I recently stayed 2 nights with my husband and 2 boys. It was a great experience from the start. When we arrived at Kawaguchiko Station, we approached the tourist help desk to ask for assistance on direction to the hotel. To our surprise, the hotel sent a van to pick us up from the station. We had a nice spacious room, with our own private onsen and a magnificent view of Mt Fuji. The front desk staff was great, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Japanese breakfast spread was good and generous. The only small downside was the hotel was located slightly off the main road and the nearest restaurant and convenience store was about 10 mins walk away. However the walk was a worthwhile walk as you will reach several restaurants, a 7-11 and a big supermarket called Agino.
• caitlin (8/5): Great way to see Fuji - We stayed here to experience traditional Japanese accommodation while also being in the perfect spot to see Fuji (as it was winter we were not able to hike it, so better to see it from a distance). Our room was tatami and had an incredible view of mt Fuji. The beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom facilities were perfect. We had our own robes and towel sets to take advantage of the breathtaking onsen facilities. We also chose to have a traditional Japanese breakfast during our stay which was an incredible experience. While a little tricky to get to (a Shinkansen/JR. train to kawagachiko then an hour long bus trip up the mountain) it was worth it. I would recommend to anyone wanting to see Fuji from the comfort of their authentic and comfortable Japanese room.
