Guest Reviews
- Kaisar (10/5): Great stay - Absolutely great
Near to al Aqsa mosque, great surroundings, great service, comfortable beds, it ticked all boxes
Thanks metropole
- Fatma (10/5): - Everything is good location, hotel it's self employed friendly and very helpful. Quiet easy access to dome of the Rock, stores, restaurants.
- Kaisar (10/5): Perfect location - Staff were fabulous
Location was absolutely fabulous
Stay was good
Ticks all boxes for what we paid
Cannot thank you enough
- Hugh (6/5): - Cheap, quiet and close to old city. Awful breakfast and last maintained last century. Friendly staff.
- Laura (10/5): - Great place, great people at the hotel, very helpful and great location. The best part, the restaurant at the 4th floor!
- Antonio (10/5): - Staff friendly and location was good
- Wilfredo (2/5): - Very dirty the bathrooms smell moldy.
- Wei (8/5): Good location, but poor condition - It locates right across Herod’s Gate, with a restaurant on top floor. Food was good. Room was old and very basic. AC had water leaking right on bed headboard. I had to turned it off and stuck a towel there to catch dripping. People working there were very nice and friendly.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Really bad not good Service terrible I went to check M and they said there is no room available I showed him the reservation through Expedia they ignored it and they refuse to refund the money back
- Heba (2/5): - The most filthy and dirty hotel I have ever been to. No hot water, bed sheets are not clean. The smell is so stinky.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Finger weg...... - In die Jahre gekommenes Hotel. Die meisten Bilder stammen nicht von diesem Hotel. Kühlschrank und Fernseher ohne Funktion.
- Mira (2/5): Don’t book it! - Very bad experience. Mols on the walls, dirt carpet, orange stinks on the sheets, super bad service. By far the worst hotel I ever stayed in.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel muy cerca de la old city en Jerusalem, también hay muchos lugares para comer y tiendas para comprar, es un barrio musulman
- Rachel (4/5): A cheap dive. Do not pay full price to stay here. - This hotel is a dive. The shower was broken, there were broken floor tiles in the bathroom. The carpet is old down and worn out. Bedding and beds old and worn out.
- Ronald (2/5): Gross Hotel Do Not Stay Here - The advertised “double bed” is not! You put two twin beds together and called it a double. Nobody calls twins a double. I let the hotel know I was 6’3 and big. They should have rejected my accommodations since they could not provide a true double bed without a split down the middle. The hotel was grossly dirty. I will be leaving a notice on hotels.com to remove your hotel from their list.I have stayed in Jerusalem many times and your hotel was little better than a hostile. It was extremely overpriced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel sencillo y limpio. Buena ubicacion - Hotel sencillo pero limpio. El desayuno correcto. Muy buena ubicacion en la puerta de Herodes, en la ciudad vieja.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Arguably the best hotel in the Muslim Quarter - The rooms are spacious and tidy, although they miss basic facilities such as mugs/tea/coffee etc. They do contain a kettle though.
Mixed service from the staff. Night manager Mohamed is superb however.
- Noella (2/5): - This has been my worst hotel experience yet. The Jerusalem Metropole aooarently had some plumbing issues so moved us to a hotel across from them, Rivoli Hotel. The room we were given had a stench, filthy carpets, a stained towel and sullen staff. Security to the hotel was totally missing! We opened the front door after dinner and just walked in. No one at reception and room keys in full view of anyone who decided to want to pick one. Our assigned room was on the 2nd level and there was no staff to help you take your luggage up and down the stairs..there is no elevator in the hotel. Our room view was a graveyard! Bath tub was tiny and stepped..never seen anything as unsafe as this one.
I could go on and on about how bad my stay has been..the upside is that is was just one night.
- Paul (4/5): - Staff very helpful and breakfast was very good.
Hotel not clean and very run down though, located in a rundown area and a little hostile and not recommended to venture out at night.
Close to Old City though- Muslim entrance.
- Raul (2/5): Not what you want on a vacation - This is a small hotel in the Arabic area, great location and a few steps away from Herod's Gate in Old Jerusalem, besides that the room was dirty and smelly, hair on the bead sheets and pillows, there was no safe to leave your values in the room
- Maria (6/5): Nice as close to old city , within walking distanc - Room was OK, , fridge not working, did report it, water cooler was only available for one day, no juice with breakfast. No fruits , staff very nice, helpful especially young boy, called Mohammed), he went extra mile when we needed help and somethings
- Disappointed (2/5): - One star at best. They over price it by hundreds of dollars just to show they’ve lowered the price and make you think you’re receiving a deal.
Stay away.
- Disappointed (2/5): - This is a 1 star hotel. It was dirty and being renovated. They post a price per night of a few hundred dollars, then cut the price to just over $100 USD to indicate that it is a great deal.
The renovations involved glue and other material that gave me a head ache within minutes.
We left the hotel within an hour and found a much better place.
I contacted Expedia customer service but they NEVER responded.
Where do I rate Expedia's performance????
- mike (4/5): - Sheets exposed the mattress, poor
- Verified traveler (10/5): - People at the front desk were very nice and polite. They were always ready to help, but the hotel was old and wasn't very clean.
- Doug (4/5): - Location is great! Hotel is dirty and isn't in the best condition. You get what you pay for. I left after 3 days. Everyone in the hote and in the shops on the street below were super friendly. I recommend going up a few streets to Legacy if it is in your budget.
- Felix (8/5): Location is the key. - Excellent location near Damascus and Herold gate! The room is spacious and clean with very comfortable beds. It has coffee and tea facilities which is really nice. My TV wasn't working properly but internet connexion was ok. Bathroom is big with powerful shower, however the door didn't shut properly and water was going out. Breakfast is good with salads, humus, eggs, cold meats, cereals, fruits, toast, coffee and tea. However I missed some fruit juices and a bigger selection of bread. The service is good, especially by the two smiley Arab ladies (maybe the owners). The corridors need an updated. Very near to the bus station that takes you to Bethlehem, Mount of Olives. Great location!!
- John (8/5): Convenient, friendly, cheap - staff was very welcoming and generous (thanks for lunch and breakfast Mahmud!) Very nice breakfast buffet
- Verified traveler (2/5): Old and dirty hotel. - Dirty and infested wirh cockroaches. The bathroom smelled horrible and the shower was broken. Not a good stay.
- mike (4/5): Terrible!!! - The only thing that is good is because it is close to old Jerusalem. And it is not too expensive
- Muhammad (8/5): Jerusalem Metropole Hotel - The hotel was as it said , a 3 star. Communal areas were in better condition than the rooms. Breakfast had good variety of Palestinian foods. Rooms needed up dating . Broken fixtures, mould, stained carpets, smell of drains in bathrooms. Mostly clean though
Bed sheets smelt fresh, towels smelt fresh
Hotel staff were extremely helpful, polite and considerate. Resident chef (Dawood) will cook dishes on request if he can. Manager (Ahmed) went out of his way to make our stay comfortable.
Location is excellent. In the muslim quater Shops, restaurants and taxis close by. 2 minute walk to Herod's gate. 15 minute walk to Al-Aqsa.
- Claudio (6/5): Great in pictures but not so good street. - Great location, but very dirty place, full of arabs or muslims.
- john (2/5): good location but terrible - not organized at all, need to remodel, smelly, I was terrifying to go to air port even paid early
day. TAXI driver are aggressive asking more money, staff are not organized, bathroom is very
smell coming from pipe...
- Elisabeth (2/5): - We got a room other people had slept in. The sheets dirty and full of hair. The bathroom had exposed
electrical cables, very dangerous. Given another room that was much the same. Next day another room
with exposed electric cables and very dirty. The only clean place was the reception. I have made Photos!
The Dining room was filthy, the chairs dilapidated and torn. Please do not recommend this Hotel. We moved to the Golden Walls Hotel just round
the corner. A lovely Hotel absolutely spotless. Cost $560
I expect from you nothing less than a total refund of £430.00 I paid to you for the Metropole Hotel which
should be closed down for health and safety. It spoilt our first 3 days. We would have moved immediately
but there was a festival all Hotels were full until the 10th September.
( I will try and send you photos of the condition of the Metropol Hotel later as I am writing to you on
a friends computer ) Please be in touch!
- Mike (6/5): Good location - I stayed for a week. The room was clean with air con, a hot shower, TV, fridge and tea/coffee/kettle. Staff were polite and helpful.
I was on the street side of the building so I was expecting it to be a bit noisy, however, they have double glazed the windows so that wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, there was noise within the hotel including a major altercation one night. The street lights were very bright, whilst the curtains were quite thin, which made it difficult to get a decent night's sleep. If you stay here take ear plugs and sleep mask.
Its strength is its location on the edge of the old city in East Jerusalem. Most sites are within easy walking distance. The Arab bus station, the one closest to Damascus Gate, is convenient for a day trip to Bethlehem. It was also easy to get to and from the light rail.
I think that balanced against what it cost I would give 3.5/5.
- Esthefany (2/5): The worse stay of my life - My stay was horrible, Please don't stay in this hotel, I've been to over 26 countries and never seen something like this. the staff do not speak English. I ask for a ride back to hotel the guy try to charge me $80. I found a cheaper ride and he told the ride taking me that they couldn't cause he has to make a commission. There was several other guest screaming at him as this was going on. The room smell horrible, and the A/C kept leaking all night. Also the day I got there I ask if they had tour information, the same guy try to sale me 500$ for a day tour around town.
- Jerico of MN (4/5): Location is good close to Herod's gate but... - The location is great it's about 3-4 minutes to Herod's gate. But the area is a little bit uncomfortable if you are not use to the local area. I feel safe but the area is not clean. The hotel is below average. The room is your basic room, bed, fridge, tv, and air conditioning (great). The bathroom is ok clean, all of the fixtures though are falling apart. Soap holder, toilet paper holder, towel holder they are all almost coming off. They didn't clean my room on my 2nd day. I had to ask for my towel twice. I stayed at room 306 I could not even close the door shut unless I pull them hard and make a loud noise. The hallway on the 3rd floor always smells smoke because the 4th floor there are employees that smoke in the stairwell all the time. The good thing about the hotel is the overnight staff are always nice and accommodating the location is nice and close to the old city wall. But that's about it. If you are looking for convenient and a place to sleep and have a bathroom on your own then this is the place. For the price I paid it was the right amount for what I got. Hope this experience help you on your decision. Thanks.
- Christopher (8/5): Central to tourists locations - 1 min walk from Harrods gate. A great place to stay if you want to spend most of your time in the walls of Jerusalem. On a busy street, but it quiets down at night. Hard to find street parking. Easiest to find parking at night. I parked when I arrived, and didn't move my car for 3 days. Many of the historical sites and current day Jerusalem hot spots are within 30 mins walking distance. Taxi's are prevalent if you prefer.
- barbara (8/5): Convenient, comfortable hotel. Helpful staff. - Jerusalem is more amazing and fascinating than one ever imagines. And the Jerusalem Metropole is very near to both the Old City and the bus stations.
- John Kostik (2/5): Cleaning Staff Robbed Me When I Left the Room. - I left my room for four hours and when I returned I found someone had cleaned my room and stolen gifts which I had brought from America to give to friends in Jerusalem.
- Azaria (6/5): Budget Hotel close to the Old City - I`ll be honest here. This is a very low budget hotel very near Herod`s gate of the Old City. The halls have a musty odor, the shower stall is tiny, the air conditioner dripped condensation on my pillows as it is wall mounted above the head of the bed and room cleaning was sporadic. There are no signs on the door handles " do not disturb/ please make up room". The first two days, there were several groups here, so the breakfast room was pretty full. The free breakfast is very average. When the groups left, I went to the breakfast room and no one was there and there was no food out. The cook was sleeping on a couch, however, when I went to the front desk, an employee named Mahmoud made me a very nice breakfast two days in a row. Friday I could not find anyone as this is Ramadan and all Muslims go to the Dome of the Rock to pray, so I had to fend for myself that one day.
I`m not real picky about accomodations. As long as I have a clean bed, shower and lock on the door, I`m fine. To be honest, I have stayed at some expensive properties but the hotel staff were rude. So this hotel was fine for the price and the employees were all friendly, helpful and became like friends. So I give this a three star rating. The best part about this hotel is location. It`s just meters from Herod`s gate and there are many shops in the area. I love, love love Jerusalem.
- Lee (8/5): A good hotel right near the old City wall - The reason I chose this hotel was because of the location; only two or three minutes away from Herod's Gate, one of the main entrance into the city wall - for Al Aqsa, Dome of The Rock, Western Wall and Church of Holy Sepulchre to name but a few. However some taxi drivers (especially Jewish drivers) would be quite reluctant to pick or drop you off at this hotel as this hotel is smack right in the middle of Palestinian area even though in my opinion, it's very safe!
Breakfast was plentiful, staff was friendly and helpful, wifi was great!
The room itself was quite basic - TV with lots of channels (mostly Arabic channels), there's no bed-side lamp so you have to use the main light instead!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - this hotel is very basic it may be a little over priced for the quality of room. the staff is very friendly and helpful. the location is excellent since it's walking distance to the old city of Jerusalem. It is on a busy street which provides shopping and dinning. my only down point is that at arrival there were no towels and the tv was not functioning. the issues were resolved quickly. I would recommend this hotel but to specific people who i believe would not mind basic conditions.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Look elsewhere for reliability - Location is very central to the Old City. Room was ok and staff was polite. Unfortunately the TV and door lock did not work and breakfast was not available as advertised.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - We checked in and about one hour later checked out. We went to find another hotel in the neighborhood. You should not book any sales for this hotels
- stevie (8/5): A very nice hotel - Where the hotel was situated made it possible for me to walk to the areas of the purpose of my visit. All the sites l intended to visit I just walked without any problems of hiring transport or tour guide. Just border to the old city, Western Wall, Mountain Zion, City of David, Garden Tomb and other sites meaningful to the Christians, it is just 5-10minutes walking without any sweat. Shops abound in the streets, activities going on around you and a police station a couple of blocks away from the hotel make you feel safer. Very nice place, would be happy to recommend it everyone as I told the staff before my leaving.
- Martin (6/5): - The hotel was reasonable and fairly prized. However the breakfast was a little dodgy. But the location near the Herodes gate was in east Jerusalem was excellent. We stayed at the hotel for a week
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very happy... Will stay again - Nice hotel. Friendly staff. All needs attended to promptly. Will stay again. Excellent locality and very near to the old city moslem and Christian quarters.
- John (6/5): Hotel is OK, but needs upgrades - Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Location was good.
- Roman (8/5): Pretty good - We arrived late because flight was delayed and we missed a train. No problems with settling in.
Staff was very friendly. They explain us everthing. Food was fresh delicious.
Hotel is located in 5 min to walk to old city. As usual in arab qurtes the street is dirty.
- noisy around.
- D whitcomb (8/5): Hidden gem - Very reasonable and comfortable. Pleasant staff.
- Jenny (2/5): awful hotel for staying - We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights with 2 rooms (1 double and 1 single). The rooms we stayed were extremely disgusting: the marks on the bed sheets, shower was leaking, air conditioner was not working. It has been horrible experience staying at the hotel. The hotel manager was helpless only wanted booking taxi for you trying hard to squeeze money out of you. Such hotel should not be existing. Not recommended at all!
- Donald whitcomb (8/5): clean, confortable, convenient to the Old City - personnel were very helpful and the room fine. Walk-i shower with immediate and plentiful hot water was much appreciated. Single beds were a bit soft and narrow but normal. I have booked to stay there again.
- Patrick (6/5): Basic Hotel near Herod's Gate - Hotel is in Arab Quarter outside Herod's Gate. Cold room until I eventually figured out how to get heat from the "cooler". Staff were helpful. Wi-Fi in lobby area. Served breakfast was mediocre. Overall, no complaints for the cost. One night was enough.
- haydee (2/5): Money waste!!! - We pay 300dlls for two nights, and the hotel is totally horrible, dirty, bad service, the Internet does not work ..complete a Nightmare! If you can don't stay here!!
- Steve & Sally (10/5): Great location by Jerusalem city walls - Nice little hotel. Clean, helpfull reception, good breakfast, comfortable bed, good double glazing. Coffee in room and fridge was a bonus. Hot water available all day. Doesn't look much from outside, but nicely done inside. Zad cafe almost opposite good evening meals & coffee.
- Scot (6/5): Great location but old, decrepit facility - The lobby was the best spot in the hotel, which was also where wi-fi was available. The hallway and room smelled and was in desperate need of updating/renovation. Our room smelled of either garbage or mold, but we couldn't find the culprit, so we left the window partially open to air the room when in for the night. I suspect it might have been the carpet, which was very worn and might have been previously wet. Our door had been fixed after likely being broken into at a previous time. The bathroom was very tiny which took some navigating; this would have been a definite challenge for an overweight traveler. The elevator broke at one point, but the staff (helpfully) fixed it and were always friendly and responsive. Overall, the hotel was worth it because of the price, great location, friendly staff and full breakfast; however know that the facilities are a disappointment if you're not prepared.
- Irene (6/5): Good Location - The Metropole is on a lively street In East Jerusalem, steps away from a police station and a post office. It is close to the Damascus Gate where one can either enter the Old City or, if wishing to visit other parts of Jerusalem, board the L1 train. The westbound train goes to the main bus terminal, and its final stop is at Mount Herzl, a short walk to the Yad Vashem Memorial Museum of the Holocaust. Also, within walking distance from the Metropole are three sites worth visiting: the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, the Rockefeller Archeological Museum, and the American Colony Hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great location in Moslem Quarter of East Jerusalem - Decent hotel for the price you pay. Room gets cleaned daily. Lovely mediterranean breakfast in the morning although the breakfast time window is small (7-9am). Having said that, we had no problems getting downstairs at 8:50am and staying till 9:30 having breakfast. Rooms need a light in the main part of the room. A lamp was brought for us upon request and it really was bright enough, perhaps even brighter than an actual light bulb would have been. The location is excellent; close to all the sights and the Al-Aqsa mosque compound is easily accessible from this hotel.
- Verified traveler (2/5): AVOID - Although the staff (Mohammed, especially) was helpful, the room was filthy and the neighborhood dirty. Although the location was close to Herod's gat, that didn't matter.. I did not want to step in the shower. Our two day hotel visit was too days too long. The breakfast was good
- dus (10/5): nice place - don't be fooled by the exterior appearance. this hotel is a gem in an amazing place. it's a short walk from the major sites.
the staff were very attentive and the location is perfect.
- H (4/5): Very average hotel close to Damascus Gate - The hotel was close to Damascus Gate, which was ideal for us that is the route we would be taking to the Al Aqsa mosque as well as the route to Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
However the closeness was the only advantage of the hotel. Rooms are extremely small with poor lighting (just two ceiling spot lights for the entire room), a small bathroom with a shower head which has no support to hang from, doors which don't shut so water leaks out, and a toilet flush which makes a deafening drilling sound at the end of its flush.
The "restaurant" if you could call it that, was terrible! For breakfast they have no juice, and when we came down at 8am (breakfast was from 7-9am) they apparently "ran out" of tea. We weren't expecting much, however one does expect there to be basic breakfast provided. At dinner time we decided to try the hotel restaurant, when we asked for some soft drinks they replied "you must buy from outside" which left us asking for just tap water.
- Dora (2/5): Like a hostel - Absolutely not a three/four start hotel. Definitely a one star hotel. The photos do not show how the hotel is in reality. The reception and breakfast area are renovated but this is all. The rest of the hotel (corridors, rooms, lifts etc) are really really old, dirty and untidy. The hotel, and the room, was very dirty. We were not able to use the toilet and shower, it was disgusting. Some room doors looked violated and we felt very unsafe. It is in a very busy road and the windows are really old so it was not possible to sleep because of the noise. The wi-fi works only on the ground floor. On the positive site, the staff was very friendly but not always helpful, although they tried their best, because some of them could not speak English. Also, the location of the hotel is very good since it is 1 minute away from the Herod's gate and the old city. Definitely not a hotel for families. Only for low budget travelers that would not mind o stay in hostels.
- Tags (8/5): Great location for visit to AlAqsa and the old cit - The hotel has a great location just minutes away from the herods gate. The rooms are and clean and reasonably well maintained.
If you are visiting to see jerusalem and Palestine it's A great place to be based.
The breakfast was good
Wifi in common areas is where most people gathered.
I extended my stay there from 4 to 7 days.
- Dia (4/5): Location was great but.................... - Location was great. Across from the old city and within walking distance of the commuter train. In our room the window did not close let alone lock. The sewer smell from the bathroom was sickening. The breakfast buffet was minimum but adequate although I was not certain there was much care for cleanlines with the kitchen staff. The front desk staff was helpful.
I would not stay in this hotel on a return visit.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Very close to Herod's Gate - Very convenient location, but the hotel is shabby. The room was clean enough. We had to slam the door to get it to latch. The shower was falling off the wall, but it worked. First they gave us a room that had not been made up, but quickly fixed that. Breakfast was included, but underwhelming. Basically, the price was right, and we got what we paid for, no more. WiFi available, but only in the lobby.
- Huudong (8/5): Location - Good location and clean for a hotel in that area, staff is very friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): Friendly & well located - Very friendly and helpful staff - fantastic breakfast selection. Hotel being refurbished, we had a room that still needed refurbishing, but others looked good.
- Sabrine (2/5): Less than positive experience.. - Less than positive experience. I would not recommend.
- ANDY (8/5): Ideal location for the Old City - Hotel is ideal if you want to explore the Old City. Its about a 10-15 minutes walk to
Al- Aqsa mosque. Situated on a busy commercial street with plenty of things going on.
Money exchange and food outlets close at hand. Theres a terrific cafe just across the road from the hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable. At this time of the year its cold at night so it was a good thing the heating was on and winter duvets provided.
Breakfast was sufficient to get you going for the day ahead.
