Guest Reviews
- Jason (10/5): A wonderful way to experience traditional Japanese hospitality, onsen, and cuisine. - Central location, beautiful balcony view, delicious traditional Japanese cuisine, and relaxing onsen—well done! Perhaps the shower nozzle could be mounted a little higher on the shower wall.
- Alexandru (10/5): -
- Charles (10/5): Amazing indulgent and convenient Japanese experience - Courtesy bus pickup for both station and Monkey park.
Authentic Japanese experience with included meals (loads of original dishes) and Onsen (private on rooftop)
Relaxing Although authentic, sleeping on the floor with thin futon mattress was not comfortable for me
- shraga (9/5): -

- Christine (8/5): Good value Japanese style inn - Good breakfast, and very nice Japanese dinner. We stayed in a Japanese room - if you want more comfortable mattress, choose a western style room. Room was well equipped, with a good shower. The staff are lovely, and very welcoming. Nothing

- Max (10/5): - The dinner and private onsen were incredible! The free shuttle bus to the monkey park was very convenient.
- Christina (7/5): Perfect for our needs. Just a short two night stay. - Lovely staff, traditional feel, amazing food. Slightly dated. Bathroom needs updating. Toilet in the room was a little smelly.
- Alex (10/5): Great experience - Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent. Really useful shuttle buses
- Claire (8/5): Authentic ryokan experience. Great - Authentic style ryokan
Great rooftop private onsen
Provided transport to and from station and monkey park but both close enough to walk if wanted
Bar setting was stunning Very sticky regarding meal timings
We opted for Japanese banquet both nights but although the food was incredible I felt very rushed given the number of courses
We had breakfast but weren’t advised that there is a western option for this
Otherwise it was a fantastic experience
- Anthony (10/5): -
- Ryan (9/5): - Excellent service, beautiful and clean, karaoke bar was a huge bonus that was fun and unique
- Suzanne (7/5): Great experience for a one night stay. The private Onsen was excellent - The inclusive dining experience was excellent Very aged rooms in need of maintenance
- ADI (9/5): - The most amazing ryokan experience we had! Great stuff always willing to help, amazing breakfast and dinner (we asked no seafood and still got amazing food), and the Onsen is available to everyone incliding people with tattoes! Also, the shuttle to the monkey park is very nice.
Highly recommend! We had a problem with the hot water in the first room we got, so they moved us to a new room, which had a bad smell from the toilet... But we had so much fun that it didn't matter!
- Tin (10/5): Amazing experience - The staff really really helpful. Make me feel like home Nothing
- Judy (8/5): - Friendly staff, clean facilities.
Helpful n friendly staff
Stayed 7 nites. half board, meals were good. Except being close to buses n station n snow monkey, there were not much else.
- YEN PHIN (9/5): - The room is spacious and comfortable, clean. The meal was great a lot of variety..family enjoy it so much. The reception are so patient with many questions from my end. They even arranged shuttle to snow monkey and station ..very flexible. The only thing is the private rooftop onsen. We supposae to enjoy private onsen but It was extremely cold. We were not informed and prep , the flow are slippery
- Yu hsin (10/5): -
- Pasquale (9/5): -
- CHIU LAN (10/5): -
- Orna (9/5): A place to calm down - location, onsen's including a privet one in the room, delishious meals. the room big and with lots of amenities. our own kimono. ride to monkey park. parking for our car. staff very helpful and personal. a bit pricy, difficult to communicate in english, because of it there was a mixup with breakfast. the mattress on the tatami floor a bit hard
- HiHagen (8/5): - The overall location and atmosphere was nice. I enjoyed my stay. The dinner on the second night turned our opinion around. The rooms are a bit noisy and cramped. Since we traveled with two suitcases it sometimes feels like Tetris.
The dinner on the first night was solid but we really enjoyed the second dinner.
- Anandsingh Jaisingh (10/5): -
- DIONNE (8/5): - The staff are always patient and helpful. During this trip, they also give practical advice (for alternative meal options) for late arrival to the ryokan.
The shuttle service to the snow monkey park and then pick-up from the park and direct to train station.
- Kevi (10/5): -
- Daniel (9/5): Overall experience was great! - Parking, onsen, staff, food, views…all were great! Ask for a room facing Mt Myoko toward Nagano. Not as much value as similar stays.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Haiyan (9/5): I will choose this hotel next time. - The location of the hotel and staff including the hotel owner couple is excellent. The only little bit disappointed is the food, hope the owner can descride more detail about the dinner option to the western traveller. Wonderful
- Kevin (10/5): Outstanding staff & great location at a very reasonable rate. - Outstanding staff & great location
- Haiyan (9/5): improve dinner and breakfast - A good location and choice for vocation bedding, dinner and breakfast
- Juan Carlos (7/5): Very fun ryokan experience, the private onsen is absolutely amazing. - The rooftop private onsen really was the most amazing experience I had for my entire trip. The view was extremely beautiful during sunset, and the hot tub with the flowing hot water was extremely relaxing. Best way to experience an onsen for solo travelers. The room was not the most clean or comfortable. It smelled a little dusty and the wooden furniture was very old. However it still felt like a very authentic Japanese Ryokan experience.
- Kaaren (10/5): Must stay location - ditch Nagano - Traditional Ryokan - dinner and breakfasts were exceptional. Close to Snow Monkeys (could be there at open time and beats the queue) and their outdoor was Onsen awesome. All was excellent
- David (9/5): Fantastic stay close to snow monkeys - The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The shuttle bus was fantastic. The onsen was amazing. The traditional Japanese food was very nice and the portions were large. After a few nights we asked for a western breakfast as the kids struggled with fish for breakfast. Thanks for accomodating that. It was a bit of a hike to the ski area of Shiga Kogen. The staff did not know much about transportation to all areas of the mountain. Would stay closer to ski resort next time. Lovely hotel though close to snow monkeys
- Simão Gama (10/5): Magical stay and perfect location to see the monkeys - Amazing tradicional experience, the onsen was great and the scenery magical! They even accept tattoos in the onsen which is a major plus. The staff was very helpfull and speak good english. The fact that they have a shuttle to/from the station and monkey park is amazing! Nothing!
- Cesar (10/5): Warm and welcoming - There are free shuttles from the station to the ryokan upon request. Also free shuttles to the snow monkeys that made things more easy
- Kim (8/5): -
- Chu Chiao (9/5):
- Chu Chiao (9/5): -
- Matthew (9/5): Wonderful traditional stay and great onsen near snow monkey park - Very nice spot, great staff, easy transport to snowmonkey park, just a few min ride from train station (free hotel shuttle), nice traditional room experience, fantastic onsen (did the public and private), fun traditional Japanese dinner, really enjoyed
- Cynthia (7/5): -
- Wai (9/5): -
- Evgenia (9/5): Very relaxing, peaceful & pleasant - Wonderful staff, very nice onsen bath, very good food and service in general, free shuttle to the station and Jigokudani park.
- Donna (8/5): -
- Sam (10/5): - Had the private onsen room, it was amazing, the staff made sure the temperature was perfect as I arrived. The food service was generous and delicious. Not a lot around but not a big deal.
- Grace (10/5): - We booked this hotel so we could see the snow monkeys. Their free shuttle service from Yudanaka station to the ryokan and also to the snow monkey park was very helpful. Communication was great and the food -- both breakfast and dinner -- were excellent. Staff were very kind and the public bath facilitiies were nice. I'm glad we booked both meals because over New Year's holiday there were very few options to eat in the town.
- LAURA (10/5): Exceptional cultural, comfortable, wonderful food; stay near the snow monkey park - The Ryokan was amazing. The staff and owner went out of their way to help us organize our train and then a ride to and from the Snow Monkey Park and to and from the Ryokan. We did a private family onsen that was breathtaking. We loved the food and the people and owner made us feel so special. The New Years Lion dance was even more extra cultural experience We loved everything. We just needed more time there!
- Bec (9/5): Perfect Ryokan experience - winter wonderland - Fantastic location in Yamanouchi - the Ryokan provides a shuttle service to the snow monkey park which made our stay very convenient. Breakfast/dinner service was excellent. We loved the private onsen option aswell which you can book ahead of time for a small fee. Be mindful of space luggage if you book the traditional room. We didn’t want to put our suitcases on the tatami so they were crammed in the doorway.
- Travis (10/5): Best experience this japan trip! - I really am pretty tough when I rate experiences but, could not find anything lacking during this stay. The location is great right near the monkey park with free shuttle service both to and from the hotel. The food was amazing we had dinner the night we arrived and breakfast the morning after. We arrived by overnight bus at a little after 6am and nothing nearby was open. The owner of the hotel herself made us coffee, onigiri and oranges. I cant think of anything that could've been better. We wish we had booked a longer stay. I would want to stay here again even without the monkey park. We wouldn't do an overnight bus there again. There is a train we'd do that next time. .
- Hilton (10/5): - Amazing property with great hospitality and amazing amenities Nothing! Absolutely wonderful
- Tschan (9/5): Perfect hotel for a perfect stay - The traditional room was great and very quiet, I loved the hotel decoration and the breakfast was gorgeous. We. loved the private Onsen for two on the roof top! I liked absolutely everything about this hotel.
- Jillian (8/5): It went smoothly - The onsen was great. The hotel has boots for hire which was great for us. I read another review that the fourth floor was a smoking floor so when I noticed we were on fourth floor I impressed that we wanted non smoking. The staff were very accommodating and we were put on 7th floor. However I believe people were also smoking on our floor. The room was very small for four people. I think it would be better for two. The hotel was very clean but tired.
- Francesco (10/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): A lovely unique experience - Very friendly and accommodating staff. Shuttle pick up from station and to / from the snow monkeys. Clean. Traditional. Private onsen. The food as we are not Japanese, however it looked like it was prepared with a lot of skill and care. I am sure it’s just because we were not used to this kind of cuisine.
- Sarar (8/5): The traditional meals were amazing. And lovely service staff - The traditional experience of staying in a Ryokan There was a slight odour to the property and room. Nothing that we couldn’t get passed but I was glad to just stay one night
- Charlie (10/5): Beautiful stay, lovely hospitality 10/10 - Everything. We enjoyed the hospitality, the accommodation in the traditional room, what it offered and its location. We thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese dinner and breakfast. This made our trip very memorable. Nothing.
- DL_SG (10/5): Love it! Will definitely recommend! - The breakfast and dinner at the hotels are fantastic. Definitely will recommend to include it in your package, especially since it is a bit iffy on the availability of restaurants in the area. (For lunch, you could still try Shibu Onsen or get something from the nearby Lawson. We were only able to find one restaurant that was open at 1 pm and they close at 2 pm so we didn't try to look further)
The onsen in the hotel is fantastic. They rotate the male and female daily so you can experience both sides if you are there for at least 2 days. (The one on the right is better in my opinion) This is not really an issue at all but it may be good for future travelers to know - It is little further to the main street of Shibu Onsen, compared to the other hotels that are in Shibu Onsen itself. The walk is probably around 10-15 mins so it's really a non-issue, depending on the weather.
- Irene (10/5): Great Ryokan in Yamanouchi - Booked the suite with own onsen tub. Really nice! The room comes with drinks such as beer and grape juice and small snacks. Dinner was really scrumptious! Offers free shuttle to the monkey park which was great. The surrounding is a bit boring, nothing much to do.
- Leslie (5/5): - The room is pretty worn and old. The toilet wasn't very clean and had a smell.
- Kit Ling (9/5): -
- Fabio Kono (9/5): - Excellent onsen facilities within the hotel! Very close and convenient to the Yudanaka station (free shuttle service), as well as to the Snow Monkey Park.
- Nivashan (9/5): - Food was excellent, staff were very accommodating to assist with changes Room was a bit small
- Diane-Leah (10/5): -
- Brad (10/5): Traditional Japan. Fantastic hosts with private rooftop onsen.. - Wonderful winter wonderland in early December. Really enjoyed the traditional kaiseki dinners. So close to the snow monkeys.. Nothing
- Ben (9/5): Great three-night stay - Location, large well run hotel, parking space well managed by valet staff, impressive multi-course Japanese dinner in traditional costume (optional), location great for exploring the mountains, tattoos allowed in public onsens The local town and neighbouring Shibu Onsen were quieter in the evenings than we expected
- Miriam (9/5): - Shuttle, onsen, dinner, friendliness of staff
- Lee (10/5): - Very nice tatami rooms. The atmosphere was calming. At least half of the other guests were Japanese, which suggests to me that it was an authentic ryokan experience. They had clothing we could wear to meals that added to the environment. The onsen on the roof was a nice added attraction. Transportation to and from both the train station and the monkey park were convenient. Lastly, although it was out of my comfort zone, I appreciated the traditional meals that were served--I don't recall the name, but as a new experience for me, it was wonderful. The exterior of the building is unattractive, but don't let this deter you. The inside is very nice.
- Donny (6/5): - Great staff and quite close to train station (about 2 mins drive) Facilities and ryokan are showing signs of age.
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Very relaxing stay in the mountains - Wonderful Japanese evening meal and breakfast . Room was large and beds so comfortable. Good location for visiting Shiga Kogen and monkey park. Staff were lovely. Restaurant lacked atmosphere but a very minor point as we loved the meal so much.
- John (8/5): Enjoyable stay with very helpful staff and nice food. As we were there 4 nights the food menu repeated from the 3 rd nig - Quite central with a Onsen and transfers to and from the station. Half Board with traditional Japanese food. Lovely helpful staff Lacked a bit of atmosphere
- Karl (6/5): Underwhelmed for what we paid - Service to the snow monkeys was good. The shuttle pick up from the train was good. The Onsens were good quality as was the food. The staff are very friendly. The in room bathroom was very small and dated. The walls to the rooms are very thin. It also felt a little inflexible. Even though we arrived at 5pm, and we requested bfast the next day but said they could not do it, even with 15 hours notice. The place also just seemed dated for what we paid.
- Andrew (7/5): -

- Anna (9/5): Excellent spot in Yudanaka for a brief visit - Lovely Ryokan- staff super helpful and accommodating. Picked us up from the station and took us to the snow monkey park. Nothing
- Avi (8/5): - Location Nothing
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Really great quality traditional Japanese food! Such a wonderful experience!
