Guest Reviews
- J7444VFjadel (2/5): Verry unhappy - đź’© place honestly,
The tap water tastes like it comes from a swamp.
The douce in the shower is installed wrong so when u shower theres water going everywhere.
The room was fulll of dirt where u couldn’t even walk without sandals in the room and under the beds are still junk from the last people that stayed .
Theres mold in the bathroom .
Theres no tv (the picture showed on the site had tv)
Our stove only has one pit that works so when u want to cook it takes a good 1/2 hours.
Early in the mirning theres people talking LOUD in your door .
And last but not least , it says that every 2 days tour room gets cleaned and u get fresh towels , ive been staying here for almost a month and never got that service.
And when u text them and tell them that you are not happy they ignore you.
Soo if youre looking to stay just dont expect anything from them.
- Adelfa (2/5): - True Ghetto
These operators perhaps have never stepped foot outside of their business to see what others offer. They run their business like their messy house.
She checked me in; I had to fill out a “physical” paper. Shortly after, I washed my hands and the sink was clogged, hair, oil, etc. I messaged her and she said she would be in within an hour. After almost three hours, she left me a key to transfer me to another room. I checked the room. The sheets were dingy, dark and a cockroach trap nearby. I decided to stay in my room. The towels smelled so bad like they were not washed or were left drying in the rain. The bed mattress sanked when you lay down. The common trash outside was full, smelled and had flies. My bathroom smelled like a sewer. I was on constant edge touching things. I felt dirty the entire time, even after the shower. Go elsewhere, true ghetto.
- Serge (6/5): - ok for one night , no longer
- 284benedictd (2/5): 0 hospitality - really bad service. customer support is also arse. they just want your money, as far as you are concerned you shouldn't say anything. you should just shut up and pay.
2/10 experience, i give it a 2 because atleast i could talk to 1 person. sheesh
- Jessica (4/5): - No TV, not sufficient toilet paper, have to ask everytime
- rubenrS1481QX (8/5): Bone - We stayed at The Lodge last weekend. My brother and his wife flew in from Amsterdam last week and we decided to meet up with them. I found The Lodge through Booking.com. If you only need a place to stay and sleep, it is ok. My partner and I are relatively easy going, so for us The Lodge was good enough, very well priced for Bonaire standards and very centrally located. All amenities are basic, but for Dutch Caribbean standards very ok. I would definitely consider staying here again.
- FRANKLIN (4/5): - No one to check in at 15.00. Supposed to be bed and breakfast. No breakfast because we didn't said it in advanced. The beds were different of those in the folder. Toilet wasn't functioning well. Folder was offering inside parking. Non exsisting. Nice water heater new.But 2 teabags and 2 sugar bags. No responsibble person at hand.
- Jason (4/5): - Lots of reasons I would never stay at this property again.
-Room service was supposed to come every other day. That didn't happen. We stayed for 8 nights. No cleaning. No trash taken out. Clean towels left in the room once but old towels not taken out. Clean towels a 2nd time when we asked for them.
- Lumpy hard beds
- Rooms open to the restaurant eating area so no privacy and very noise.
- Microwave and toilet seat where broken in one of the rooms. They weren't willing/able to get them repaired.
- No services for scuba divers.
- Friendly owner.
- Richard (8/5): - I liked the friendliness of everyone there
- Mibolange (2/5): - My recent stay at your hotel was disappointing. The check-in experience was unfriendly, taking place outside at a not-too-clean table on the terrace. Both the terrace and the room itself were not clean, so I couldn't even walk barefoot. The bathroom lighting was inadequate and the room had two beds at different heights, which affected my comfort. Additionally, I found that the photos on Expedia are not representative of the current state of the hotel. This experience was far from what I expected from a hotel stay. I hope this feedback contributes to possible improvements in the future.
- Tristan (8/5): - The hosts are a beautiful Surinamese family that take good care of the guests. They cook homemade food, and serve for dinner. The location is walking distance to anywhere in town... I felt at home here.
- Lex (8/5): - Great Surinam food
- Cedric (6/5): - .
- lucio (2/5): false information about the hotel. - Don't stay at this place. They have inaccurate information. They say that they are connected to a shopping center, that they have a private beach, that they have a 24 hour customer service, and free transportation to the airport from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. None of this is true. They are not connected to a shopping center. They are in the middle of nowhere. The closest public beach is 8 min walking. They don't have anybody at the front desk. I got the room key from the cleaning lady. When I inquired about the free airport shuttle, I was told that I needed to stay for seven nights (It does not say this anywhere in the booking). Please don't stay here.
- Judi (2/5): - The noise level made it difficult to sleep. People sitting out in the common area with phones blaring until 11pm and it was as if they were in the room. I actually paid for another room at a different resort and left loosing money. Worth it!! There was gum on the wall that I didn't see right above the bed so when I was sitting on the bed and put my head back my hair got stuck in the gum. I pointed it out to the manager and she actually said..well maybe it came from your head. Sure because I walk around with gum stuck in my hair without noticing. There is a horrible smell that comes from the shower off and on. Not even a cup of coffee included with the rate. The bed is uncomfortable. I would never stay here again or recommend it.
- genoveva (6/5): - Wakable
- Miho (10/5): - We took a walk around our room and had nice dinner at the restaurant. But it seems that you can have nice meal at the lodge Bonaire B&B. The room was simple but no problem, we just sleep
- Deanne (10/5): - Super nice service
- Csilla (10/5): - The lodge has a central location but it is quiet enough due to the surroundings. It has a low key vibe and on Sunday you can sit around in the patio area as the restaurant is not open on that day. It is close to the town beaches. Internet was slow. There was a microwave, fridge, water heater and stovetop in the room. No coffee maker, but you can buy breakfast. Bathroom was clean. Bed was comfortable.
- davidlA8312UF (2/5): Confirmed my reservation but refused me a room - I booked directly with The Lodge Bonaire and had a confirmed reservation. When I showed up on the day of my reservation I was told they had overbooked and did not have a room for me. They never reached out to me to tell me this so beware if you have a confirmed reservation you may not have a room.
- Kenny (4/5): I will pass next time - Checked in with me and my family and because my reservation for two queen beds said 1 person, they gave my room away. She was difficult but when I said I would call Hotels.com and get a refund, she said I needed to pay $20 more dollars and she would put another bed in my room. The room was less than stellar, no top sheet, bedding was very old and the pillows were FLAT and we each got 1 flat pillow. It’s close to the airport and did suffice for our extended day in Bonaire but I will never stay there again. And there is only parking for 4 vehicles so I had to park down the street in the mud.
- David (10/5): - It is what it is. A basic place to stay with nice people working their. Don't expect a resort. It's nice.
- Minouska (10/5): - The personal attention made me feel like home away from home.
- Fernando (2/5): - .
- OlAlbersen (2/5): If you’re only looking for the bare essentials in a hotel give it a chance, if not, look elsewhere! - We stayed in room 2 at the Lodge for two nights on our 12 day trip to the island.
The rooms were barren and empty, the lights were different colors in the same fixtures, the design was shabby and only the bathrooms were decent.
The beds have iron springs and were uncomfortable, the rooms didn’t feel clean even though there supposedly is regular cleaning.
The WiFi is only accessible from the common space in the courtyard and is very spotty.
The brochure in the room starts off with that water and electricity is expensive on the island so to use both as little as possible.
Also the brochure states if you’d like to use the airconditioning 24/7 that is a surcharge of 15$ per day!
Furthermore you’re not allowed to flush your toilet paper and need to toss them into a bin which don’t get emptied frequently, this causes the bathrooms to stink.
We felt as if we had wasted 3 days of our holiday by staying here. The service and facilities are poor and need to be improved.
We did not enjoy our stay here at all and it felt as if we had wasted our money and precious days of our holiday!
If you only want the bare minimum give it a chance. If you’re looking for something enjoyable and nice look elsewhere!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Restaurant in property- very helpful staff- close to town
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ok for a budget stay place. No shampoo, had to ask for towels for 3 and was told we had 4 towels which were 2 small bath towels and 2 hand towels. On the other hand our plane was late and they arranged to leave a key for us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Everything was old and not very clean. I booked for 2 nights. After 1 night I checked out, nobody did see me leave and nobody asked about it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Wanneer je heel de dag weg ben is het een prima verblijf
- McLawyer_Nevada (6/5): Not good, not bad. - You have to call to get someone on the property to give you the key to your room. It was only a 5 minute wait. There is a kitchen in each room with pots, pans, dishes and utensils, but don't walk to Sunshire Market which is about 500 feet as it does not have much food, walk farther to a better market. The room is very basic, but has a/c and about 25 t.v. channels in English.
I was asked by Rose, the owner of the kitchen if I wanted breakfast in the morning and I said sure. Little did I know that I was making a firm commitment for one egg, one sandwich, one cup of coffee and fruit for $12.50. At 8:15 a.m., she knocks on my door saying breakfast is ready and I said that I just woke up and that I will eat later. At 9:00 a.m., Kim, the one who brought me the keys, knocked on my door and told me to come out of the room. I got dressed and they both said that my breakfast had been made and that I need to pay for it. Rather than fighting, I paid and started eating. The egg was cold, probably having been made at 8:15 a.m., and there were flys around the orange juice. The eating area is covered by a roof but is outside.
It is a good place to stay for the $77 that I paid but in the U.S., I would have only had to pay $40 for the same room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Basic accommodation at reasonable price. Close to everything. Nice staff. Just what I needed.
Adding a microwave and an iron in the room would be nice.
- Chris (8/5): Good enough for one night. - Overall I was happy with The Lodge. It’s on a quiet side street and isn’t anything fancy. I was a bit surprised when I tried to check in. There is no office or counter. The cleaning staff called the manager and said she would be there soon. I waited about 10 minutes and then she showed up to check me in and give me a room key.
The rooms are simple. Bed. Desk. Small TV. Sort of a closet. Refrigerator. Basic bathroom. Good enough. And Air Conditioning. Thank goodness!
I was by myself and only stayed one night, so it was plenty, and in a good location to explore the waterfront and port area on foot. And within walking distance from/to the airport.
And...when I asked about renting a bike, the manager called for me and the bike was delivered in less than 15 minutes.
You’ll need to bring your own shampoo and soap, though.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place for solo travelers or groups that want access to a self-sufficient vacation. The place is clean and comfortable. The artwork is amazing!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Goed beloopbaar naar centrum, boulevard en eetgelenheden.
- hansvandehee (8/5): Good place to stay - hi, we were staying there one year ago. First two weekes of feb. 1018. I must say that it was a good place to stay. In front is a gate and you get a key from that gate so as that non authorised people cannot get to the rooms.
The room are pretty good and there is a shower/toilet room and also cooking facilities. In the middle there is a big room with a big table and chairs and a bar. For us, an extra bed was planted in the room because we were with three persons. As we are divers we were only there at night time.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Leuk hotel vlakbij het strand en centrum.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Soenil (10/5): - Nice staff and good food
I had the pleasure to be there
- Drew (6/5): - The Lodge provides basic accommodations within close walking distance of the central town. Rooms are all single story off a lovely little courtyard.
But be warned, there is virtually no staff/management presence. Call ahead for checkin to get them to meet you. Perfectly nice manager, just normally off-site.
- Jose Daniel (2/5): No parece un Hotel Familiar - Ni siquiera me quedé, estoy tramitando con mi banco para que me reembolsen mi dinero
- Karssien (4/5): - -De Lodge is gedateerd
Bestek borden bekers etc. Is inkompleet, maximaal voor 1 persoon
-Handdoeken zijn niet schoon, ruiken geregeld muf
-indien je erom vraagt, wordt het aangevuld
-personeel is vriendelijk
- Verified traveler (8/5): Decent little Inn! - Nice little budget inn a little outside central town... so quiet! But still within distance to walk to everything you need!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very old and sloppy maintained. No soap for shower and the shower floor very slippery. Not a repeat option. Location is good walking distance to cwnter
- FrequentMJF (2/5): Don't have high expectations, is more an upscale hostel - The Lodge is not a 3 star hotel for sure.
If you're looking for a simple bed and a shower it is good. Don't expect daily cleaning (incl towels and garbage disposal), a lively environment, any support from a front desk or concierge. If you don't expect any of the above, and you can get a good deal per night, it's just fine.
It is a kind of upscale hostel rather than a hotel accommodation. Which works fine for people who only look for a simple accommodation. It's safe and the room has a refrigerator and a safe. Mine didn't have a equipped kitchen.
The towels are disappointing; old and completely worn out.
It's really hard to get response from the hotel manager, so don't expect real time response, or just no response.
The air condition works, but is really old.
I think when you get a decent deal to stay (pay for around upscale hostel rather than compared to a hotel) it should be fine.
I've rated it as a 3 star accommodation, which results in 'terrible'
I would give it 4/5 stars as an upscale hostel.
- 211ninal (2/5): Very unsatisfying service - We stayed at the Lodge for a month and have never experienced worse customer service. We had rented and payed for a stay of two months but changed our reservation to one month. According to local Bonairian law you are then allowed to get your money back for the month you cancelled, except for the deposit which the renter can keep. We told this to the manager but then got the reply that we would get nothing back and if we went to an attorney she would throw all our things out on the street straight away.
The room was extremely expensive for what you got, the "kitchen" was very difficult to cook in since it didn't have any tools and everything was broken. The towels had dirty stains on them and we had to ask for new toilet paper. The cleaning lady was very nice though.
One day when we came back to the room the manager had switched our double bed to a much smaller one (120cm) without telling us. Her only explanation was that "we needed that bed and didn't have any extra".
There was a big mosquito problem at the property which they didn't do anything about. Also wifi was not working at all for 1,5 week. When we were there they started to get big problems with cockroaches but didn't do anything about it.
It was impossible to get in touch with the owner, since she was in Holland. This became a problem since the manager blamed everything that didn't work on the owner and she was nowhere to be reached.
Because of all problems we had with our stay we were offered a free month to stay at the Lodge next time we visit Bonaire. But when we come back to Bonaire we will rather pay to stay somewhere else...
- Rita (8/5): Dichtbij zee en winkels - Nette accommodatie dichtbij bij centrum. Aardig en behulpzaam personeel.
- 612gerritk (4/5): A bit disappointing - Location is good if you need to be close to town. The room was shabby. Light bulbs missing pretty dark. Internet poor. There was no one around to answer any questions. Fixtures in the bathroom looked ancient. Bathroom cabinet crooked. The bar was never open to be web able to buy a drink or some water. I was there in July 2015 for a wedding. I am returning to Bonaire later this year for my own wedding and did some inquiries about staying there again. Got response on my initial email but replying to the response I only got my mails bounced back. Tried calling several times but no one answers the phone. I heard through the grapevine that there is new ownership? Interested to see if things have improved. Like the location because of it's proximity to town.
- OnwardTraveller (4/5): Really disappointing - Where to start? I guess I started off badly: hard to find late at night after a delayed flight in the middle of a residential street just outside of the town centre, and then not being able to get in as the staff had all gone home: a couple of phone calls later and after a twenty minute wait I was able to gain entry to find a pretty sparse somewhat tatty room.
Check-out (before the staff arrived) meant leaving the key thrown into the bar and then finding I needed the key to exit the compound. Fortunately with the aid of a stick I was able to retrieve the key.
And it wasn't exactly cheap either for what essentially was little more than hostel accommodation.
Sorry - I won't be back!
- DavidG574 (8/5): Just what I needed - I had a late night arrival, about 10 pm at the hotel and was met there by the owner's daughter (early 20's) and several of her girlfriends who took the occasion for a quiet party while waiting for me. .The room was very large and well furnished and breakfast was good. The hotel was central to the town, just steps from the reef surrounding the island. Easy walk to rent snorkeling equipment, snorkel, enjoy the town. The only minor drawback was the layout of the rooms around a fairly narrow central courtyard (where breakfast was served) made it a bit noisy.
- Alex (8/5): Nice hotel - I only stayed there for 1 night. The room was very good and clean. The property is nice. The only thing is that they didn't gave me the key of the front gate (i was told i didn't need it) and I was locked out when I wanted to go in late at night and again locked in when I wanted to check out early morning. This they definitely have change (arrange it a way that every staff member knows which keys to give).
Besides the key issue, it is a nice hotel.
- edwardh683 (4/5): stay at the Lodge. - Location was great, staff was good. Room was overpriced, poor working a/c, room had an empty soap dispenser in the shower, towels were old and stained, and the bed spreads were worn with holes in them. At check out there was no staff available. Stayed two more days elsewhere @ better rates and great amenities.
- ugogurl (2/5): Not great - My family of five stayed here in November 2014 for three days and we couldn't wait to leave. For the price I would have thought we would have a higher quality accommodation. We were each allowed one small towel about the size of a hand towel (not even enough for showers let alone for going to the beach). We found it almost impossible to get service (we had debates as to whether anyone even worked there) and when we finally found someone we had to beg for a roll of toilet paper. The room wasn't the cleanest, the beds and bathroom were small and we the breakfast wasn't at a convenient time (and wasn't include in the price of the room). We ended up eating breakfast at the Divi Flamongo resort right around the corner which is where we plan to stay when we go back to Bonaire again in a couple of years. It is a very bare bones place to stay and quite expensive for what you get.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not so clean - Location is nice and rooms are basic but comfortable. Not so clean, stains in towel and linen, hairs in bathroom, smelly. Was good for 1 night but wouldn't book it again.
- David (6/5): A good value with qualifications - The hotel is walking distance from the beach and great dining options. The wifi did not work and there was no remote for the t.v. We also waited almost an hour before the owner arrived to provide us the key. However, the owner was quite friendly and helpful. I would stay at this hotel again.
- Amy (4/5): You get what you pay for - We stayed in bonaire for 3 days, we arrived to the hotel around 9pm the gare was locked and no one was there to let us in.. Luckily our cab deiver was kind enough to call the hotel and have someone come out to check us in. The hotel and room itself was cute, little and clean. Location was good, close to the VIP dive shop we dove with and easy access to the main roads.
Cons-
No one was ever around for assistance
The room was never cleaned the entire time we were there, we had to use the same towel everyday and it was the size of a hand towel. We had less than half a roll of toliet paper to share between 4 adults as we could never find anyone who worked there
If your looking for a cheaper room this is great but dont expect much
- snailme (8/5): Great location- perfect for single
Travellers - I stayed at the lodge back in February for 10 days. Very cosy and quaint place where you feel at home immediately. Walking distance to nearby beaches and restaurants.
Edwin- who was there greeting me upon arrival-was fantastic throughout my stay. Helpful in every way possible.
Only downside are the dogs that hang around on the
Streets leading to the bnb. Agressive and scary- hopefully
A solution for this will be found.
Overall though-
Great spot and value for money.
- kentgerber (8/5): Nice clean place - My daughter and I was going to spend 6 nights here because it was cheap and we just needed a place to sleep because we were going to dive as much as possible. Got there really late at night and the manager told us they were over booked and we would have to go to another property they owned. I was not happy so he did give us a room for that night. The next day he upgraded us to a 2 bedroom at the Yacht Club apartments so we ended up having a great week and really enjoyed the diving. I did get to meet Dana and she is a very nice gal. Already booked another 8 nights with her for June. Aruba Bob
- ilovemynemo411 (2/5): Needs SERIOUS help. - Don't expect ANY help from the workers at the B&B. There isn't even a phone to call out on the island. Need a taxi? Too bad figure it out on your own. Sign out front says to give them a call because they are "always near" But there is no phone and they are never to be found. Wifi works for maybe 3 minutes at a time. They "clean" the room once or twice a week, but a cleaning only consists of adding more tiny mold smelling towels. We ran out of toilet paper half way through our stay and had to borrow some from another guest. Sinks and showers do not drain, there was hair wrapped around the drain in our shower when we arrived. The public bathrooms have septic issues and smell AWFUL.
The location is great and it has the possibility of being a nice place but is poorly managed and isn't taken care of. Would never stay here again.
- ajdeads (2/5): Must have new ownership - Started badly when the airport pickup never happened. 90% of the time there were NO staff members present on site, however they are little to no help when present. Hotel cleaning staff went through my suitcase while I was out. Never met the owner (her name is supposedly Dana).
Overall an incredibly subpar experience.
- Richard (10/5): A small inn near everythiing - Stayed only 1 night, but intimate and friendly. Comfortable island rooms, opt breakfast $112.50 USD.
Very reasonable compared to others. Near town, walking distance.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Simpel - Kamer is zeer vochtig. Kleding droogt niet. Servies bijna niet aanwezig hier moesten we zelf om vragen! Koude douche en daarbij wordt de hele badkamer nat. Deuren sluiten onvoldoende en een doorgezakt bed.
Ligging is goed! Ook het restaurant ziet er verzorgd uit.
- PatriciaI801 (8/5): A short walk away - from the centre of town along some unlit streets this simple B & B offers simple, very basic rooms, each one giving out onto a courtyard with table and chair. The rooms with Balanese teak furniture, if very basic, are very clean with light coloured tiled floors. The rooms are cleaned every two/three days. Bathrooms are spacious but could do with a bigger cabinet for toilet accessories. As we don't eat big breakfasts we drove to a cafe Le Boudoir where we had toast & jam at a reasonable price. The Lodge is definitely to be recommended and the staff very friendly.
