Guest Reviews
- Hug (2/5): - No he estado en este hotel
- Örjan (8/5): - Sain huonen keskellä yötä, sisti ym.
- Matti (6/5): - Ok
- Teija (8/5): Helppo yöpyä! - Tavallinen hotelliyö, ei ongelmia!
- H.K. (8/5): - We stayed for one night during a long stopover between flights. The location is fantastic — very close to the central station, which makes it easy to reach the airport, and within walking distance of several major attractions. The hotel itself is a bit dated, but it has all the necessary facilities and everything we needed for a comfortable short stay.
- Vesa (8/5): - Keskeinen sijainti
- Gary (6/5): - Good location and comfortable. Abit on the cheap side but ok.
- ERINA (10/5): - とても便利な立地でした。
- Alla (4/5): Stay in Omena Hotel Yrjonkatu - The TV was completely non-functional, which was a disappointment. We sent both texts and emails to the property management about the issue, but received absolutely no response. It's incredibly frustrating to pay for amenities and then be completely ignored when they don't work. The overall experience really reinforced the old saying: "you get what you paid for."
- Pirjo (10/5): Centrally located, calm - Very good centrally located hotel in the city, all the main attractions within walking distance.
- Hannu (8/5): - Hyvä paikka
- Katriana (8/5): - The perfect budget option in downtown Helsinki. The room was a good size, coffee and a refrigerator were very welcome. The beds were comfortable and it was nice having two luggage racks. Our only complaint was that the windows don’t open for fresh air and the room was stuffy and too warm overnight, in spite of it being quite cold outside. Rooms should have a fan or at least some way to control the temperature.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good budget hotel - Omena hotel was very central and overall it was a nice stay. The code didn't always work the first time it was put in (even though the light was green) and there were a few stains in the bathroom. But overall the stay was exactly what you need in a hotel and their communication was great throughout
- Conor (10/5): - Very centrally located hotel. Walking distance to wverthing. Clean rooms. Self check-in with no reception.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Fair for solo travellers not family - It’s fine if you are spending most of the day outside and use the hotel for sleeping only! It really needs renovation, good location tho!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Simple basic hotel - Easy citycentre bolt hole for simple overnight.
- oak2wn (4/5): Would not stay here again - Even if I just think of this place as a place to spend the night and not hang out, it still gets a 2. Stayed here at the start and end of our travels in Finland.
Pluses:
- close to places to eat and shop
- can walk from the train station (though it may be a pain to drag luggage across cobblestone streets)
- get in the building and room with the same code (so no key cards to carry or lose)
- small refrigerator
- microwave
Minuses:
- bathroom drain was slimy when we arrived, and I'd say the sink was not the most clean
- Bathroom light was on a timer and motion-sensored, so whenever we would shower, the lights would suddenly go out (and it was super dark in there). Had to stick my arm out beyond the shower curtain and move it around to get the lights back on.
- Room felt cramped because we had a gigantic column next to our beds the first time we stayed. The second time we stayed, that room felt more spacious because it didn't have a column in it.
- The sofa was extremely uncomfortable to sit on--it would sink down so far!
- The doorknob was loose the whole time, and our last day, it fell off. We were worried we wouldn't be able to open the door without the doorknob (and therefore not be able to retrieve the luggage), but we managed to open it and had to put the doorknob on ourselves (no reception desk).
- You can pay for breakfast nearby, but the choices were somewhat limited. It would be better just to buy something at the store for breakfast.
Bottom line: I was relieved when our stay here was over and would not ever stay here again.
- Charles (8/5): - Booking on hotels.com did not generate check in instructions and door passcode email necessitating a 15-20 minute phone call with hotel’s customer service when we arrived at the hotel. Once that issue was resolved we were very pleased with the hotel.
- lozz88xxx (6/5): good when on a budget - firstly there are no staff at all for check in, you get a code which gets you in the building and your room, which is efficient but concerning if something goes wrong. the rooms are decent size with pull out sofa, fridge ect. but the beds are in dire need of replacing very hard and they need more pillows as we only had one very soft one each. so the sleep wasnt the best but for the price you have good facilities and are right in the city centre within walking distance to a lot of sights and shopping centres
- Emily (10/5): - Was a bit concerned about the whole “no reception/well text you a code” but it worked out great. You use the code to get in the building, elevator, and your room so actually it felt quite safe. Location was fantastic. Room was bigger than most in Europe.
- Rashed (8/5): - Decent value but decor was old and dated. All self service
- James (8/5): - Clean and basic. Excellent value for money. Will definitely use again
- Felix (2/5): Never again - The beds and pillows were uncomfortable bathroom shower is so tiny that you can’t even wash your back but most of all the Wi-Fi was nonexistent. I mean it was absolutely horrible. Do not stay here if you have family at home or your own a business trip.
- Luis E (10/5): - Everything was good, price, location, service, very convenient just getting a code to check in and entering the property and your room
- Dominic (8/5): - Overall a nice experience in a budget hotel with zero service staff. I notice that near 12pm check out time we are not allowed to come into the property when someone is already in the room.
It is nicely situated near many shopping malls.
- Molly (8/5): - The only issue I had was that the code I received did not work. I had to call the reception and they were quick to answer and provide me with a new code that worked.
- John (8/5): - Great rooms with comfortable bed.
Spotlessly clean.
Main entrance using PIN was temperamental and several times I got locked out!! Door very sticky.
Luckily departing guests were able to let me in !!
- Zoe (8/5): - Prefect for one night.
- RuislipSteve (10/5): Good central Helsinki hotel - Omena hotel has comfortable rooms with kettle, fridge and microwave plus tea and coffee
There is a comfortable bed, everything you need for a central Helsinki hotel
No reception you get an access code at 4pm
Very close to the central Helsinki station
- Ritzie (8/5): - Good hotel if you’re not fuss and on a budget as it is close to shopping malls and transportation. Despite not having staff around, door code is provided via text message to access the property and rooms.
- G (6/5): - Great location to centre areas of Helsinki. However, the fact there are no physical humans on reception did pose a problem. On entering the hotel one day, a new resident from Turkey couldn't get access & was on the phone 📱 to the 24hr manned reception line to get his room & access code. This phone wasn't answered at all & we had to assist the gentleman with emailing the Website with his booking reference. We also had some problems with the entry code to the front & lift which worked intermittently on a couple of days, but eventually this then worked. Also no one cleans or supplies new towels etc. The bathroom is basic & a little grubby, as was the room. Great location, but given the above issues, wouldn't stay here again. Not recommended.
- Scott (10/5): Inexpensive and central - Very convenient hotel for a traveller on a budget.
- robyno195 (2/5): Terrible experience :( - Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Omena. Both nights were terrible, especially because there was no airflow. It was confirmed by a staff member that there was an issue and a maintenance person was supposed to fix it. When I asked for a refund given that the issue was not resolved and not what I paid for (the room was so hot and stuffy - I could barely sleep), they said they can only offer a 10% refund. For what I paid ($353 Canadian for two nights), it’s around a $35 refund. I was shocked. They couldn’t even refund me for one night. I wish I would have paid an extra $100-$150 a night to stay somewhere much nicer.
- Robyn (2/5): Terrible experience :( - Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Omena. Both nights were terrible, especially because there was no airflow. It was confirmed by a staff member that there was an issue and a maintenance person was supposed to fix it. When I asked for a refund given that the issue was not resolved and not what I paid for (the room was so hot and stuffy), they said they can only offer a 10% refund and that is their policy. For what I paid ($353 Canadian for two nights), it’s around a $35 refund. So, if you have an issue, apparently 10% refund is your max. I would rather pay an extra $100-$150 a night to stay somewhere else.
- Cesar (8/5): - I didn't like it when I ask to one of the employee for the name of the hotel, and he gave me different name so I kept looking for the hotel on different places....
Then I found out that, he was wrong....
- Edgardo (8/5): - Very convenient for shopping around walking distance to many restaurants and transportation. Not so quiet but for a night or two is not bad at all, not for many days to stay.
- Debra (10/5): - Clean, quiet and convenient. Great price.
- Fred (6/5): - Basic hotel for a nights sleep.
- Michael (6/5): - Okay hotel, no front desk, self check in and out. No Air conditioner. And windows are screwed shut. For safety reasons. You need to phone and ask for a window to be opened. So, I was able to open one window to let cool air inside. Otherwise the room is very hot. Too hot to sleep. You must also phone and ask for an electric fan. Lucky it was early June. The nighttime air outside cooled down. The hotel is around 15 walk from the Helsinki Central Train station.
- Bradley (8/5): - A nice large clean room in a great location. Would be happy to recommend
- Sari (10/5): - A nice overnight stay in a perfect location. Walkind distance to Kamppi and the main train station
- Annu (8/5): - Easy access, quiet, appropriate. Coffee cup could be bigger….
- eeanhe (2/5): DO NOT COME HERE! - NEVER AGAIN! This is not a hotel but a lousy hostel. Not suitable for children. Disgusting.
+ The only plus is the location.
- We ordered a triple room. I paid an extra 10€ for an additional bed for one night. The bed was not ready in the room; we would have had to make the filthy armchair bed ourselves. I couldn't because it seemed so disgusting.
- The hotel room door was partially broken and would have opened with a hard pull. Scary.
- The shower was plastic (like a ship's cabin). Moldy. There was soap and towels in the room.
- I paid over 80€ for the room, and I am very disappointed. For a few tens more, you could get a good hotel with breakfast.
- anu (6/5): - Nice place to stay inn the center of city. No reception available... May have difficult checkin...if something goes wrong no one to approach.. Interior of the hotel very simple and neat. Clean.. Good to have a direct approachable number for help. We cant contact the helpline only once we will be able to getin. Otherwise no one to ask help if anything goes wrong with checkin
- Evgeniia (8/5): - Clean, easy to find, comfortable
- Henrikki (8/5): - Ei ollut mitään millä pyyhkiä vettä suihkun lattialta viemäriin.
- mr Michael c (8/5): Good, no problems - Good standard hotel, no staff but the number pass system seems to work fine, except for going down in the lifts but I need the exercise anyway
- Irina (4/5): - Location is good
- ropentastones (6/5): Basic is as basic does (with a view of the inside of a shop from the window) - We were looking for somewhere cheap to stay for a couple of nights in Helsinki and this came up. To start with it is nicely located, even if it is a little difficult to find if you don't know the city. However check in was fine (everything is done remotely on the app) and the room was decent enough with a pod bathroom. Arrived late, dumped our stuff and headed out for food. Had a decent nights sleep but on waking up I opened the curtains naked only to be confronted with a load of shoppers wandering around the clothes store outside my window. Hmmmm! So, just a warning to fellow guests to check out of the window clothed first... unless you are into that sort of stuff then go for it haha!
It was okay for a couple of days but would not stay here for more than that.
- Steven (8/5): - Great stay! Convenient to the bus station and shops.
- Antti (10/5): Thanks for good work! - I have stayed quite often and the rooms are starting to have some shabby elements, like hooks on the walls having fallen off, in some cases the hangars being bent and also the water boiler having completely become layered with calcium remnants in the bottom.
PS. As a regular quest, I would be happier to have a view towards Eerikinkatu if possible, if not, I understand.
- Damian (8/5): - After a turbulent start, things did get sorted and the hotel served its purpose. You are meant to receive an email with a link the night before arrival. As this is a 'staffless' hotel, you are required to submit some information before your code number is issued. This code opens the hotels main door, the interior door, the lift, and your room. I never received the link. The next day I tried to contact Hotels.com and the hotel. I couldn't get through to the hotel, and Hotels.com was as much help as a paper umbrella. You must remember, I am now walking aimlessly around Helsinki. Finally I manage to reach the hotel direct, and all was sorted within minutes. I would suggest you book this hotel direct, and not through a third party. The hotel needs your contact details in order to send you the link. The hotel is really well located in the heart of the city. Rooms are large, with a little seating area, and ensuite bathroom. They come with a large TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee facilities, microwave, and a fridge. I'd definitely stay again, as the location and price are great. I would however book with them directly
- Verified traveler (6/5): Omena hotel near Kampi in Helsinki. - Disappointing. Lack of easily accessible mains sockets, the double bed is in an alcove and is difficult to get into and out of. The fibreglass modular bathroom floor is very noisy when you walk on it. The television kept cutting out. Apart from that, it was OK for a budget place to stay.
- Ricardo (8/5): - Great location, practical, rooms have enough for price, but it was loud and smelly
- teodorspanu (6/5): Somewhat good - Rather a hostel than a hotel, this place of accommodation stands out for its position near the train station and the main social and entertainment spaces of the city.. Everything else is extremely simple, needing improvements and cleaning. Extremely useful for a night or two. Wifi network of very poor quality. Without breakfast.
- An (6/5): - First room was too cold. We tried to call but only after trying several times we were able to speak to someone. They allowed us to swap rooms and the second room was much warmer but the TV and fridge didn’t work and we found an empty condom package beside the bed 😬
On a positive note, the room was functional and in a great location.
- fede_rico-col0 (2/5): IS THIS A HOTEL? WHAT? Hoping never to come back! - - First of all, this is not a hotel. It's rooms rent. Nobody will make your bed or clean your room, so don't call this rooms "hotel" please.
- There is NO possibility to open the window, the bathroom is also with NO window and NO fan for air change, so I suggest that the main window of the room must be able to be opened.
- Rooms and services are not as they are described on internet, the structure is also near an Asian food restaurant, all the smells of food are in the corridors and sometimes also in your room.
- For last, the lights switch is without any logic, every time you press a button to switch on a light, the next time you'll press the same button a different light will come on, is this a joke?
- The only good thing about this horrible "hotel" is the position, very close to the city center, but my suggestion is to take two more steps to get to the center rather than sleep in this "hotel".
I HOPE I'LL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN.
- Mike (8/5): - Superbly located, great stop over for a small family, and great value for money. Would recommend to a family on a budget.
- David (6/5): - A very basic property! Did provide good beds and a shower, but strange to see a microwave with no cutlery or crockery, or a place to wash up (although the bathroom worked out due to the clean tap water). Also couldn't open windows which made the room a bit too warm on one day. If you literally want somewhere to stay that's cheap, this is it. If you want to cook... Go to the K-Supermarket in Kamppi and you'll be able to do so!
- Nitin (8/5): - The location of the hotel is GREAT. It is close to Esplanade, Senate Square, Kamppi bus station, Train station. The code entry worked great and the hotel was adequate and priced correctly for a budget hotel.
The only and probably a major issue we had during the stay was the lack of air conditioning. It can get quite warm inside during the summer and having no air conditioning or even a fan or have the ability to open the window made the room very stuffy. We couldn't sleep well at night because of it. I would urge the hotel to at least provide a fan if the building is not hooked up to provide central air conditioning.
- Kaia (8/5): - Good hotel for a short stay. Doesn't have many amenities and is pretty bare bones, but the price location it makes up for it. Clean and quiet, note that you have to use your code to open many doors, operate elevators, and your hotel room door.
- William (6/5): - It’s cheap and close to the train station. Has good transport links with trams and metro. Those were the good points. I would’ve like to have been able to open the window to my room to allow fresh air, but there wasn’t any way to open without a key. And some of the lighting and switches could do with upgrading. Couldn’t rate the staff/service as I never saw anyone
- Edmund (8/5): Great location at great price - Great location to visit tourist places in Helsink.
- Chinchitchlud (6/5): Great basic one night stay! - Fine for one night, but you get what you pay for. This hotel is more like an Air B&B set up, no staff, you access you room via a code that is text and emailed to you. Great for checking in as you can access your room straight away, but not sure what you would do if you have an issue with your room or code. There is a phone in the lobby, we tried this for a different issue but all that played was an automated Finnish message that we could not understand, so gave up.
Our room was on the 2nd floor in Block A. Room was fine, simple set up, beds were low but comfy enough. Small bathroom with shower, no amenities or safe from what I can remember. Microwave and tea/coffee provided, which we didn't use. The TV was strange, it seems to be set on a 10 minute timer so switches itself after a certain time, quite odd and irritating.
Location was great, next to shops, a few bars but only a short walk to the centre. We slept well, except the room was extremely hot, which was not controlled by any thermostat in the room, so we couldn't turn any form of heating down as the heaters were off. The windows didn't open so we were just left in a baking hot room, which left us struggling to sleep but we dealt with fine.
Check out was simple, no need to hand keys in etc you just set a time to check out by and leave whenever you are ready.
Nice simple room, great location but don't expect and frills or luxury.
- Jennifer (6/5): - The location was good.
- Val (10/5): - It felt a bit unusual to not see the usual front desk with hotel staff, but as soon as I used my access code to open the hotel front door and then my hotel room, I felt at ease.
- Daoruedee (8/5): - easy to check in, good location
- Liam (10/5): - Super convenient, pretty basic but comfortable for a quick stay. TV did not work.
- Kristina (10/5): - Pleasantly surprised with accommodations. Great value. Good location. Easy access and great communication
- Swatantra (8/5): - The staff was very cooperative and prompt in addressing my concerns over the emails, prior to my checking in. Indeed very helpful and relaxing tips on my first visit to Helsinki.
Will definitely visit again and recommend to others.
- Jens (8/5): - fast easy moderate price and central
- Virve (6/5): - Woken up by other travellers shouting ang yelling.
- Boris (8/5): - no staff
- Bonnie (8/5): Perfect for Overnight Stay - Perfect for our one night stay. Clean and comfortable. Good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good things:
We like the location of the hotel. Beds linen and towels was clean . Room was clean and tidy.
Badly things:
The whole hotel was smelly on cooked food from the restaurant downstairs.
No hairdryer in the room.
Coffee and sugar was just for 2 days.
The folding beds was broken and uncomfortable, my daughter can't sleep for the whole stay.
Windows are locked and room is without a fresh air.
Bathroom floor was very very noisy.
Hotel's need of renovation work .
- Tanja (8/5): Hassle free and easy, great location - My flight landed really late and I managed to get to the hotel at 2 o'clock at night. Door code worked perfectly, got a warm shower and an ok, pretty comfortable bed, just what I needed for 1 night. Hassle free and easy. Location was great btw, close to the main train- and bus stations.
- ratsureima (6/5): Slept well for four nights. - Cheap prize and the central location attracts party people, but luckily i got a room from the more silent floor intended for business trips/work. Plesant stay. Got a good sleep 4 nights straight and that was everything I was hoping for. Compact room with a cozy bed, sofa, tv and a shower/bathroom unit. Only dissapointing thing was that I chose this location, because ofte near location to Yrjönkatu swimming hall, and the swimming hall was closed during my stay due to corona.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, easy check in.Room was ok.I can recommend this hotel for short stay...
- mmikko (6/5): Very Basic - This is budget hotel at Helsinki city center. It is good for a few night stay, not for longer, if you want more than bed and shower. A five minutes walk from railway station, near Forum shopping center. There is no staff, they send a keycode to door, elevator and the room. Free wi-fi, no parking - city center is not a good place for car, parking is pricy. The room is equipped with: tv (half of channels doesn't work), fridge, kettle, micro and hairdryer. Lot of restaurants and shops around. The breakfast is at Picnic Kukontori restaurant (5.30€/person 6/20).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The place was clean and central but no staff on so any problems you couldn't get sorted out, building work next building started at 7sh and finished about 7/8in evening.
Room was mostly plastic eg:bathroom tv on signal most times and the didn't get cleaned in the four days we was there.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic Convenience Hotel - Great location, stong smell of food from downstairs restaurant, very small room, no space for clothes, good to have a microwave/kettle if you want to cook a little but no utensils or crockery to facilitate this. tried to contact remote service (no reception in hotel) and no answer for 10 mins. Gave up. Good value but deals at others e.g. Glo Art would been better value overall (30% more expensive, 100% better).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - No checkin/out was super convenient. Amenities are more than I’ve expected, paper cups were thoughtful. Very Good location too.
- Michael (10/5): - Very clean. Excellent for a night or two. Perfect location.
- Alisa (4/5): For short stay only - Only suitable for short stay.
- Pierre (8/5): Valuable hotel - If you don't mind no one to help you check in, doesn't early check in and late check out. You can choose this hotel. Hotel will sent email inform you room number and pass code of the entrance and room
No housekeeping if you stay shorter than one week.
Room is very large.
- Konstantinos (6/5): General good - Fire alarm has failed and was ringing 2 days constantly
- antonio (10/5): - Great location good price
- Darren (8/5): City centre location - A great location for all areas of Helsinki whether you are shopping or doing all the Tourist stuff with great access to trams and the metro. What I found a bit obscure is that our room was at the rear of the building and what I thought was a central courtyard was actually the inside of a pub. The opening hours were until 2am with 5am at the end of the week. Although this wasn't a big issue as the sound proofing of the glass was pretty good, there were a couple of times when the noise did wake us in the very early hours.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location and easy process to get access to the room. Security code text and email to allow access at check in time.
Saw no staff at all though, and the hallway and lift area smelt of Oriental cooking as there is a restaurant in the same building.
Room generally clean and the bed comfortable. A kettle, microwave and fridge are in the room but there were no plates etc...
Definitely worth the price though and would stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect location. The room was large and convenient.
- Wendy (10/5): - Good location and easy to explore the city center as well as the attraction place.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was compact and clean. However the late check in time was disappointing as was the fact that you had to use security codes even for the lift.
- akaripapaa (6/5): A place to crash - If all you need is a shower and a bed to sleep, this is it. It's a no fuss chain hotel.
They send you a code and that's all you need to get in and out.
It is centrally located in the city where everything is close by, shops, bars, cafes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was great to receive an entry code rather than a key.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I did like the keyless entry.
But I don’t like the lack of a front desk, or nobody being there in the event something happens-like the shower not properly draining. It may be cheaper to run, but then the facilities suffer. Also, the doors to the building were not always locked-anybody could get into the hotel.
- 709melb (2/5): Not too expensive but still not worth the money - To us this was a quite unpleasant experience. The location within the city centre is really good but that's the only positive aspect.
First of all, despite the name "hotel" it has nothing to do with a real hotel. There is no reception, noone around to ask questions or leave luggage, nothing. You will receive a PIN code to access the building and your room which starts to be valid at 16:00 on the day of arrival. in case you get there before 4 you won't even get into the building and obviously you cannot leave any luggage. not on the day of arrival and neither on the checkout day. depending on the time of day you have to use the PIN code multiple times to access your room, with 3 to 5 different doors.
the room appeared clean but the corridor had a strange smell, the room had no window to be opened, there were hardly any power points in the room nor were there hooks to hang clothes (one of the two that we found came off the wall).
the full toilet/shower-unit was a big plastic box (including the floor, the walls, the door and the celling), everything felt really awkward and cheap. there was no light switch to switch off the bath room light, it had to remain lit 24/7 (very climate friendly!).
all in all we can absolutely not recommend this place, it may look like a good option on the booking website but wait until you know what you get for your money...
- Verified traveler (8/5): - First time we used a property with no reception area and required a code to get into property and room. All worked well ... very easy. When we had difficulty with TV, phone contact number was used and person was very helpful. Problem fixed timely
- RayDo40 (6/5): It does what expected - Not a wonderful hotel but it does the job. 1 double bed and 2 single beds, separated with the shower cabin. Impossible to open the window but good ventilation
Really well located downtown for an affordable price
