• Alicia (9/5): Beautiful historic hotel right on the water - The hotel is in a beautiful location. The rooms are spacious and the balcony views are wonderful. The staff are fantastic and very attentive. I would certainly stay here again. I really enjoyed my time at the hotel, though it was a bit noisy at times because of construction work. The hotel is older, so it's showing its age in some ways. But the staff were very kind and offered to intervene if the noise was too much. I wouldn't let this stop you from coming to this lovely place.

This is the only hotel ( over 3 weeks) that did not welcome us warmly with a briefing and some refreshments. • maureencW7690LY (8/5): Closest to Entebbe Airport - Our travel agent booked this hotel as we had an early morning flight and wanted to maximize our rest time beforehand. The hotel is right on Lake Victoria and offers a nice breeze but can get buggy. The rooms have air conditioning and a TV. We ate dinner in the restaurant, they have varied selections and the food was good, but service was a bit slow. They can accommodate gluten-free. It took us over 30 minutes to check-in as the hotel attempted to provide us a lesser room than the one paid for in advance. They also claimed to have no knowledge of my prepaid transportation to airport until I asked the concierge about it and then they checked their records and found the information. If you do book here, make certain that you have documentation about what you purchased when you check-in. They did come through, but it took time. If you are not pressed for time, there are nicer boutique hotels about a 20-minute drive away.

The staff are helpful and welcoming and friendly with special recognition to Caroline the Front Desk supervisor who always goes an extra mile to make my stay as comfortable as possible. On my 2nd stay had no balcony, opaque windows because they looked out onto the hotel’s backyard facilities , and I could have been in any below average corporate hotel - but charged the same price - over £200 a night!

• tlowens75 (6/5): Good hotel for transit, but not long stay - The Protea Hotel is decent for what it seems to be - a transit hotel for people going on to other areas of Uganda for business or tourism. We received an upgrade due to my husband's Marriott status and were placed in an "executive suite." It was a weird, large room with a king bed on one end, a table and chairs in the middle, and a desk/tv/dresser on the opposite side. It had a very large balcony with a view of the lovely pool and Lake Victoria. The furniture is in good shape, but it's very business hotel with not much charm. The bathroom is definitely worn, but at least it has the standard amenities (the hairdryer was attached to the side of the desk in the main room, weirdly!). The bed was comfortable. The A/C is one of those wall-mounted units that can be sort of noisy at times, at least ours was. Not all of the lights seemed to work. There was a big hole with like sheetrock in the hall right between our room and the next room so maybe there is some ongoing construction, although we didn't hear anything. It's quiet-ish. The best thing about the hotel is its staff, particularly in the restaurant Tides. The breakfast was nothing special, but the dinner was good - particularly the curry! The restaurant staff is worth mentioning twice - fantastic. Convenient to the airport - they will arrange a shuttle for you. Seemed safe. You can enjoy marabou storks landing in the grassy expanse outside the lobby.

• Johann Fourie (5/5): Poor Communication between waiters and kitchen staff - Restaurant personnel takes an food order, and when the food is delivered to all the guests at the table, a specific order is not delivered and the guest is informed that the food item is not available. This after all the gueats waited for their food order for over an hour. Question - why was the guest not informed that the specific food item is not available when the order was placed. It seems that there are poor communication between the waiters and the kitchen personnel.

From the moment you walk in, you are bombarded by pleasant customer care, at the reception I found Collin, Ismail, Enoch who ensure that feeling of home atlast. In the kitchen, Simon and his team, including Shafic, Viola, Tracy and the ithers made sure I adventured with the food. The other support staff are all on point, working seamlessly to ensure Vaiola for each $ spent.

I have traveled for business for over 35 years and have never before had an experience like this! Please know that while it says Marriott on the website, do not expect this hotel to operate like a Marriott. (In the process of disputing charge, have reported them to Marriott Corp., credit card company….
• darwin96 (10/5): Great stay at Protea Entebbe - spent 2 nights here to recover from jet lag after my 35 hour trip from San Francisco, ahead of gorilla and chimpanzee treks out in Western Uganda. They gave me a spectacular upgrade to a 1 BR suite with a separate living room and balconies on two sides. I really appreciated the recognition of my lifetime Titanium status. All of the staff were so friendly. The restaurant staff were excellent was well and I enjoyed all my meals. The breakfast buffet is nice. I enjoyed the pool one day. You need to go through security to go in, but that is common for hotels in African cities, so it's something to get used to if you are not already.

• Stoney (10/5): A great hotel complex with an outstanding restaurant to use as a base for your Uganda safaris and adventures. - We stayed at the Protea Hotel Entebbe before and after our Uganda safaris. Three nights total. The facilities were outstanding. The hotel is close to the airport so transfers are easy. The Tides Restaurant offers great food all day long. The lamb shanks and Nile perch are exceptional. In the case of the perch it was expertly prepared to a perfect condition with a mushroom sauce making it one of the best meals I have ever had. Absolutely superb. The entire staff made you feel welcome and the center of their attention. Not applicable

• kctooo (8/5): A good choice - Convenient hotel to Entebbe Airport. The rooms are a little dated but you don't come to Uganda for a 5 star spa hotel experience. The rooms however are extremely spacious and clean. The staff were also friendly and very helpful and security is thorough.

• rgadavis (10/5): Perfect location near the with great staff - We stayed 2 nights - one before and one at the end of our visit to Uganda. We were upgraded to their "Juliet Suite" on our first night. Wow - great way to start our adventure. It was a corner room with 2 balconies and a full bath plus an additional half bath. It is on the side of the hotel that's next to a very busy beach club so the music did play pretty late, but with the windows closed and AC on it didn't really bother us. We had one breakfast - the usual buffet fare which was pretty decent. For dinner we had their burger and smoothies...both were tasty. On our 2nd night we were upgraded to an Executive Suite(?). Room was closer to the pool side, so no noise issues at night. The room was huge, but the shower door needs some attention. It seems it was pieced together with used "parts". We did use their complimentary airport pickup and drop off - always on time. Would definitely stay here again.

• N3petruc (4/5): Okay for transit - This hotel was booked as part of a transit hotel on our way to bwindi for gorilla trekking. It’s okay for one night but anything more…. No way. The hotel is in horrible shape the rooms are dirty and dated. I would never book this myself it was booked as park of a safari package The food in the hotel was okay but again you are trapped there - nothing seemed walking distance. The service is good. The staff is very friendly and works very hard We had to get room service for the flight home which arrived pretty late but also we had difficultly arranging a driver for the flight the next day. They seemed unsure how early to arrive to the airport. Being a close transit hotel they should know better than guests when to arrive. Overall one night is fine. Anything more find something nicer

We need to have the windows closed with the curtains due to the woods in front of the windows. The room is small, outdated and the bathroom very old , the shower door is broken. The worst Hotel we had in a big city in Africa . We payed 260 US dollars for a room is really bad. The Hotel is under refurbishment and that should be referred when we booked

• Ron (3/5): - The outside areas This hotel has a theft problem with the staff or the workers that were working next to our room that had a pass-through door that I believe the thieves enter from. A hotel is supposed to provide a secure place to rent. They failed The hotel even tries to absolve itself from any responsibility of theft by posting by posting a waiver in the room. Put even your charging cords in the safe .. unreal
• michaelc679 (6/5): Transit Airport Hotel - We stayed 2 nights for our arrival and departure from Entebbe airport to Bwindi. Hotel is located about a 5 mins drive from terminal but can get chaotic at the carpark and security screening. Simple basic hotel and do not get your expectations too high although this is a Marriott chain. Basic toiletries. The hotel has a great view of Lake Victoria. The hotel is still undergoing construction and some noise can be heard near the swimming pool area during the day. Wanted to do a massage but closes at 6.30pm, a bit early for a hotel. Peaceful sleep but can get busy at times since most people flying in and out of Entebbe stay at this hotel. The hotel is not carpeted, and tiles are used mostly and create lots of noises from the luggage wheels or housekeeping trolleys. We had breakfast and dinner at Tides restaurant. Both were good. Breakfast was the standard offering. For dinner we chose something local as this is Uganda (they do very good curries and basmati rice) and we had the pork ribs with French fries. Both were very tasty and reasonably price for hotel offering (2 main courses and 2 drinks for us$36). Staff were pleasant and helpful.
• LISA (10/5): Superbly convenient with a breathtaking location. Totally pleasant stay. - Superb location, close to the airport, but right on Lake Victoria (and a magnificent view). Excellent breakfast with many buffet choices. We were upgraded to a junior suite, which was lovely and spacious (much appreciated!). DInner was also very good. Staff were always pleasant and helpful, always looking for ways to be helpful and always smiling. Free airport shuttle was also greatly appreciated. We also hired a driver (Wahab) for the day through the hotel and he was excellent. Can't think of anything
• anjanl2023 (10/5): A Great Place to Stay for a Short Visit in Entebbe! - I stayed for a night and found the rooms comfortable with a nice view of Lake Victoria. It’s reasonably priced for Entebbe and only about 3 minutes from the international airport. The food was decent, offering a good mix of local and international cuisines, with both room service and an à la carte menu available. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and wouldn’t mind staying here again before continuing my trip in Uganda.

• Manmohan (3/5): Extremely disappointing stay which left me frustrated instead of relaxed! - Friendly staff and the location on the lake was good. There was no hot water for the shower for almost the entire stay. The wifi was terrible. The hotel was carrying out building work but we were not informed in advance and nor was there any explanation or apology when checking in. I paid for a lake view and initially was allocated a room with a palm tree in front of my bedroom.The incessant music in the restaurant and on the terrace at unacceptable volume. Many items from the menu were unavailable and you were only informed once the order had been placed. It would have been much easier if the serving staff were informed in advance. For a 4* hotel there were no slippers or gowns. Although the staff are very friendly this simply masked the lack of effective service across the hotel. I had a allergic reaction to a caterpillar on my arm and when I approached the receptionist about speaking to a nurse or doctor on the phone she was extremely unhelpful and it was only when I insisted on speaking to a manager was I given some assistance. The manager called the doctor and even came and found me by the pool to give me some anti histamine cream.
• 848sumanthk (8/5): Comfortable, clean, good launching point. - Overall a good stopping point before our Safari. Pros: Close to the airport. Breakfast buffet was really good. Best cappucino the whole trip. Fast laundry service. Steam and sauna on site. Good views. Excellent service. Cons: Little dated (although there is a newer wing where they have remodeled the rooms which are quite nice).
• P1243ISkeitha (10/5): Fantastic stays in Uganda. - My son had two stays in May 2025 when he arrived and June 2025 when he departed at the Marriott Protea in Entebbe. He was there for a medical trip and stayed two days at the hotel. His experience was wonderful both times. The hotel is an oasis very close to the airport. They also have have a great shuttle to and from the airport. The pool, the restaurant, and most importantly very nice rooms made his stays wonderful. A huge thanks to Mr. Cymon Charnley and his whole team at the hotel. A highly recommend staying here if you are ever traveling to Kampala and Entebbe areas or have family traveling here.

While the property is clean and the staff were friendly and accommodating, the overall experience felt cold, soulless, and forgettable. The hotel seems to lack any real personality or charm – it felt more like a transit stop than a place to relax or enjoy. The rooms and common areas, while tidy and functional, lacked warmth or thoughtful design, making the ambiance feel sterile rather than inviting. The breakfast buffet was average, offering a decent spread but nothing that stood out. Unfortunately, lunch was a disappointment – poorly prepared and far below what you'd expect from a hotel at this price point. In short, if you're looking for something with soul, comfort, and value for money, you might want to look elsewhere. The Protea Entebbe delivers the basics but fails to justify its cost with anything memorable or enjoyable beyond the essentials.
• Guide777081 (8/5): Convenient, Kind, and Just What You Need Near the Airport - We stayed here for one night before a flight and it was exactly what we needed. The hotel is just 3 minutes from the airport with a 24-hour shuttle, which made everything super easy. The room was basic and not particularly modern, but very clean. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was a nice bonus, with a few solid options to start the day. While on-site, we booked a boat tour to the equator through Gloria’s company (based at the hotel), and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! Highly recommend if you’re looking for something easy, convenient, and friendly near Lake Victoria

• Bart (9/5): Fantastic location to stay in Entebbe! - This is one of the best places to be. The location is excellent, close to the airport. The garden and lake side views are unmatched. The food is very good. The showers didnt work easily, getting hot and cold. The spa was broken and in the gym half of the machines didnt work. The room was a bit dated, and then one day there was just an invasion of lake flies.

Called them 2 days later & they had kept them for me. Very impressive.

• Winston_A_H (6/5): Disappointed - I have Gold Elite status with Marriott. I stayed 5 days at this hotel. This Marriott falls short of my expectations. Although amenities are ok, the hotel as a whole is outdated. Had to change rooms because of drainage issues with the sink and the smell of sewage also emanating from the sink. The staff however is amazing. Politely stated, the general manager came across as dismissive and condescending when a request was made to include African music in their selection for background music at the hotel. I would not return to this particular Marriott.
