Guest Reviews
- Seemann (8/5): -
- N9641RQbethl (8/5): Don't let them take you as a chump - No breakfast available or even complimentary coffee in our room. The diner charged over$6 for the most bland shake that was small for price already but then it was also 2 inches or more of whipped cream on top giving the illusion of a full shake but it was not. Certainly not how old time shakes should be made at a place like Penny's diner
- Peggy (6/5): It was good. - It was quiet, had an elevator, decent beds and a good shower. The shampoo and Kleenex were empty and nobody checked the room after the first night to replace towels.
- B9287ASpeggym (8/5): We were here for family events so didn’t spend much time in the motel. It was quiet when we were there. - Comfortable room. Good shower. Bed was fairly comfortable.
- Gwendolyn (6/5): good for one night since we were a short distance from our destination. - Security was okay. Quiet. Nice to have restaurant nearby but not real satisfied with the menu. No coffee in room, No coffee pot in room. No breakfast and don't know if we were to go to Penny's for breakfast. Was it self pay???? Will I stay here again. Probably Nor.
- Kyle (9/5): -
- Luis (10/5): - The general manager was really awesome. He comped our breakfast bc we saw it listed that way online even tho he said they don’t normally offer that. Really awesome dude. Would definitely go again just because he was so likeable. the rooms were also clean.
- Richard (3/5): - Nice clean room Called for directions but night manager didn't know the area--no help at all. GPS was no help and we drove all around this small town for r5 minutes until we found the place. Adjoining restaurant was supposed to be open 24 hrs but we went there twice--late the night we checked in and again in early am--both times they would not serve us. No cook there at the time, kitchen shut down etc lots of excuses
- Randall (9/5): -
- Lawrence (10/5): - Hotel was very clean and staff very friendly. Breakfast at the attached diner was very good.
- Patti (10/5): - It was a great place to stay, we had our dog with us and it was a good place for her, we enjoyed to restaurant, overall an exceptional place it stay!
- Geralyn (10/5): - Friendly staff
- Barb (8/5): - There was no USB port in the room which is needed. Needed more towel bars and the window did not lock securely, and it was on the ground floor. I would not stay again as it did not have a free breakfast but there was a cafe on site.
- Mary (8/5): - It was average
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall experience was good but cleanliness of the room could have been better. Carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed.
- Judy (6/5): - Check in and out at diner! Weird! Also no free breakfast as advertised
- Wayne (8/5): - It was nice
- Dennis (4/5): - Bathroom door didn’t operate correctly. Towel rack was pulling off the wall in the bathroom. Toilet seat was loose and falling off. Air conditioning didn’t keep up. Numerous flies in the room.
- Barbara (9/5): My stay was short. I didn’t have time to doe utilize the 24 hr restaurant connected with this hotel - Easy check in. Friendly staff. Quiet room. Close to the resort my friends were camping at. No coffee with the coffeemaker.
Room was next to elevator, which woke me a few times.
- Kelly (8/5): Fun in Glenwood - Great people good food clean rooms
- Jill (4/5): - There is no lobby, you check in at the diner. The hallways are dark, the carpets appear dirty, and has an odor. The first room had water dripping around the bathroom vent and onto the bathroom floor. We were offered another room. There was black hair in the sink, and on the shower stall walls. The shower head was hand held and it's holder was not attached correctly to the wall. The room smelled of dampness. The towels and garbage were not changed until day three of our stay. The diner is conveniently located, the food was good, but it took 1 and 1/2 hours to eat breakfast. We left one day early. Do not stay here, a total disappointment. To top it all off they overcharged my credit card by over $600.00+ dollars!!
- staceys225 (8/5): Waterama weekend - Rooms are updated ,clean and comfortable. Only thing was the TV didn’t not work in our room but otherwise great. We would stay here again
- Debra (8/5): -
- James (8/5): - check in
- Gary (9/5): Very nice- I would stay there again. - Because of a mixup at check in, I was upgraded to a suite. Very considerate and really appreciated everything the staff did to make me feel welcome. The Diner was also very helpful and the food was quite good and reasonably priced. It was a little hard to find even with GPS
- Neal (6/5): Pleasant - Quiet and uncrowded. No complimentary breakfast.
- Timothy (6/5): - Checking in and checking out. No one could tel me how much I owed.
- MrsCfromALea (10/5): Good hotel, cute diner - The beds were comfortable. We were on the third floor so the room was super quiet.
They offered that we could go to the Super 8 for swimming for $8/person.
We thought the hotel was very helpful.
We also ate at Peggy's Diner twice, everything we tried was good- famous Philly, Cheeseburger, chicken strips, French toast, pancakes, bacon, and sausage patty.
Delicious, low-key diner.
Very good.
- Naomi (10/5): - Disliked how to diner was the check in and check out spot
- Richard (4/5): - The in room
- Bob (8/5): The facility met my requirements - Excellent breakfast and staff. Setup with dinner in a separate building
- K (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean rooms. Provided my request to be on 1st floor near entrance Checking in through the diner and then having to go to the side entrance And there was no Kleenex tissues in the room. And I was not able to get my Wyndham rewards on my membership account
- 505kaciek (4/5): Won’t stay again. - I liked the gym. But no meals served unless you buy at restaurant. Window leaked when it rained, have to check in at Diner. THEY LOVE TO CHARGE YOU FEES AFTER YOU PAY FOR YOUR INITAL STAY AND NOT ADVISE YOU OF IT annd then make you feel like an idiot. And room had a funky smell.
- Andrew (10/5): - The all night diner
- Jan (4/5): Inconvenient - One employee was running hotel check in and diner! No coffee in room or anywhere in hotel, that is unacceptable! They refused to give me a physical receipt which I need for my employer. I do not recommend.
- Linda (10/5): - The room was very comfortable. Nice and clean. Would have been.nice to.have a coffee maker in the room since the diner wasn't open. Cute diner, but did not have employees for it. We would have eaten there if it would have been an option.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Room was clean.
- huebnermargaret (10/5): We had a nice stay! - The staff was all very friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and quiet. We stayed three days/two nights. I would stay here again.
- Karen (2/5): - Not for me.
- Pat (8/5): - Room was great but would have expected a coffee pot in the room considering it had a kitchenette.
- Nathan (2/5): Unprofessional - I now have to go to corporate level because they did not provide a receipt and charged me incorrectly for a mandatory 50 dollar fee. They charged 80. And now I can’t seem to get a hold of them. They have been extremely unprofessional, and refuse to reach back out to me.
- slimpiks2017 (6/5): Look Elsewhere! - A little strange, we had to checkin at the diner in front of the hotel, thus, no front desk in the hotel to ask questions. We stayed the weekend and the WiFi was out at checkin but it was indicate it may be up soon, which it wasn’t. The bed sheets didn’t fit the bed, thus slept on part of the mattress pad. The room was normal other than the noted issues. Bottom line, probably better choices in town!
- Susan (8/5): - I loved the location. Easy on and off the main drag, quiet, clean and plenty of parking.
- Tracey (10/5): - Great
- Greg (2/5): - They gave away our room and all other rooms were dirty
- Lee (4/5): Disappointed - Little disappointed in the hotel. Have to go to the restaurant that sits in front of the hotel (not attached) to check in. No coffee maker in rooms. Dark, narrow hallways. Won’t be returning.
- MarciaMarciaMarcia84 (4/5): Creepy and weird vibe, but the room was fine. - The room itself was clean, updated, and quiet. They allow pets for an extra $20 which we appreciated. While I have no complaints about the room, there was a creepy vibe about the place - oddly quiet, smelled like weed in the public spaces and parking lot, lots of people just hanging around by the entrance smoking area (which had to be passed through to enter and exit the building), once the entry door was propped open by a shoe, we saw very few other people and the ones we saw seemed high. You check in at the diner next door. It was just a weird vibe and we won’t return. The decent room did not match the rest of the experience at all. It’s a strange place.
- Christine (7/5): Good -
- Vern (8/5): Very good - no coffee pots in room
- Tricia (10/5): trap shooting experience - Extremely clean large room
- Frederick (10/5): - I liked the out of the way location. quiet and safe
- Barbara (8/5): - The room were clean.
The hotel staff were nice and helpful.
- Alexis (4/5): - This place was not nearly as nice as it looks in the pictures. There is no daily housekeeping. It was just kind of gross.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Cute hotel/diner short drive to the lake. Surprisingly quite as my room overlooked the diner. Huge room
- Petersen (8/5): Very good -
- sammyraynewman (4/5): Lackluster even by budget standards - As mentioned across several other review sites this hotel is not great. I let my parents book this and went in blind. It is a BUGET HOTEL at best. No amenities ( coffee, free breakfast). You check in at the diner which is 24 and severely dirty with lack luster bland food. The room itself was clean but lacked maintenance. My lamps were skewed off the wall as others have pictured; while the walls themselves had large holes patched poorly and not painted to blend . I had no additional blankets and the bed was not made anything like the picture with a comforter topper or anything like that. My heater sounded like a dirt bike all night and I had a garden spotlight pointing in my room all night. Also as others mentioned they downgraded my room
To a handicap room king because they were "full" yet we saw two rooms propped open all weekend not getting ready for next guests. Otherwise if you don't mind any of the above and can get the room for a good price then sure it's a nice quiet hotel Because no one else will be here.
- Christine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Johnson (10/5): Exceptional -
- richard (6/5): - Ok
- Jerome (2/5): - TravelocitysiteshowsOutdoorsPool,NOPoolBreakfest-NoBreakfest
- Maureen (6/5): OK, too far from gas & breakfast fast food. - Was difficult to find. GPS was no help. Called but directions were not based on where we were. Reception desk was next door. Alarm along with snooze alarm from room next to us woke us up @ 4 AM. See above
- Steve (4/5): - Restaurant full of employees but no one is working, no food. Can't check in - door locks are being changed. Can't check out - manager is using computer from home. Isolated location near railroad. What a disappointment. Room was clean though.
- laura (4/5): - The bed had blood. This property is isolated from everything and has no proper address. They don't provide a coffee maker in the bedroom which forces you to buy breakfast at the hotel's dinner.
- Gordon (6/5): - No cups or ice bucket or coffee pots in the room. Rooms were nice and large. The rest. was closed most of the time.
- Erin (8/5): comfortable stay, convenient location - close to destinations after surgery dog food and treats under bed…
- Daniel (5/5): Not again. - Breakfast was promised in the reservation and not delivered. Lamp was broken in the room. Frigidaire was set to the warmest setting. For the cost of the room it was underwhelming.
- Todd (5/5): Very poor hotel for the $178 price. - There was no breakfast. This hotel (which has no lobby) is attached to a small diner where you have to go to check in. The diner was not open to anyone as they explained they had no cook to prepare the food. There was no breakfast. The front porch/entryway was dirty with some trash laying about. It needed to be power washed. The room had a thin sheet on the bed with a thin comforter sitting on a shelf across the room. The cable box was sitting on top of the tv that was affixed to the wall.
- Bernice (1/5): We will NEVER stay here again. - Absolutely nothing The entry was filthy and that’s only the beginning of the list.
- Ge0rgeaT (4/5): Where's the coffee? - How in 2022 can you charge over $150 a night for a room that doesn't even have a coffee maker? Everything else about the hotel is just ok. There is definitely a lack of amenities . It has the look of any other low budget motel but charges way too much. The lighting is also low and the lamps in the room need replacing.
- Karen (10/5): - Very nice and staff great. Just wish had coffee pot in room
- Suzanne (2/5): - Avoid this property like a plague. 0 stars is not low enough to describe the disappointment we felt being here.
- April (2/5): - We reserved a room with 2 queen beds but they oversold those rooms so we were given a room with 2 double beds instead. The floor was so sticky our shoes stuck to it while we were walking throughout the room; it was not cleaned adequately. And the room was not ready for us until 10:30 p.m!!
Baymont has a contract with the railroad company -- it seems they are given priority on all room types and times and everyone else gets whatever is leftover after the railroad employees are taken care of. We will not be staying here again.
- kathy (6/5): False advertising - They say they offer free breakfast and that is not the case. You have pay for it. The location sucks because if you blink you will miss it. The bed was okay. Not what I expected for what we paid for. Older bed with springs. Room was descent. Barr minimum for the price.
- S4563XMdavidl (4/5): Not as advertised - Be aware that there is no free breakfast at this hotel, despite what is advertised. There is also no one at the hotel to check you in; you need to check in at the diner next door. I reserved a king size room, but was given a queen room instead because they did not have a king room ready. This hotel is severely understaffed with the cook at the diner trying to handle check-in and check-out.
- Darwina (4/5): - No sign at door saying where to ck in. Address is wrong online so maps couldn't get us there, and was told they knew was wrong and haven't bothered to correct. 8 pm and had to send someone to see if room was ready and found it was occupied, so they gave away our room. I pd for a king, got a queen, no discount. Was not impressed with the hotel at all.
- Mary (10/5): - The staff were excellent. Quality customer service.
- Cheryl (10/5): Awesome - Late check in
The desk is in the restaurant which is a separate building. Morgan was funny, quick and efficient
- Donald (2/5): - No lobby check in at restaurant reserved 2 king rooms only one available was offered king suite then that not available then double queen room went to room it was single queen back to restaurant supposedly no other rooms available then got double queen but it was supposedly handicap which was okay got to room not handicap obviously they either lie or don't know anything about rooms. Motel supposedly full but less than 6 cars in lot
- Pete (8/5): - clean.... no problems
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I need to work with Expedia to update check-in time to 3:00 p.m. also make sure it is clear that breakfast is not included.
- Jami (4/5): Bad service both before, during and after. - Do NOT stay here. No daily service at the room, so no towels no scrubbed toilet, nada. We reduced our stay at check in by one day but they were still VERY happy to charge us for the final night even though we were well within our cancelation period. Upon calling to get charges chamged they refused to refund the entire day of charge and still charged taxes on a stay that never happened. Bad experience, do NOT stay here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Check in was confusing and I was lucky enough to find someone sitting by the doors to direct me to the diner. Would have been nice to find that out from the hotel in advance. Otherwise the room was nice and worked for us.
- Alan (10/5): - The room was very clean and roomy. The only issue is that the beds were kind of hard for us. Overall, the whole hotel was very clean and the staff was very nice. We would stay here again.
- Andrew (8/5): - Clean room, friendly staff. Only issue was bed only had a sheet. No blanket provided.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was fine. Clean and basic. The town shuts down early, and the attached diner was out of most menu items, so plan ahead!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good place to stay
- Bruce (10/5): Clean and quiet - I didn’t get the advertised breakfast, but I went out for breakfast as so it was no biggie. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Easy to get too, check in was in the attached diner, a little confusing. Bed was to soft for my back. Kept rolling to the middle got very little sleep.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cute restaurant
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The beds were like a trampoline
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property was very clean and setup nice. It is odd the front desk is in a diner next door but it works. We were very unhappy as they advertise free breakfast but do not have any. They just have their diner that is open 24 hours where you can purchase food.
- Patricia (4/5): Disappointed - Check-in is through the diner below the hotel, where the lady working was less than friendly. Smokers occupy the entrance area, so prepare for that. I was traveling alone and did not feel safe, pictures show a much better light than what it truly is.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - House keeping was very friendly and helpful during our stay... The on-site diner made supper easy but they were constantly out of items we ordered...
- L (8/5): Hotel Great, Hotel.com fail! - Hotel was great, people working we’re great. Hotels.com, however, booked unavailable rooms - the hotel was full and hotels.com still charged us the non-refundable rate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The management was incredibly nice.
- Lisa (8/5): Weekend Getaway - The room and the staff were wonderful! The room was clean and spacious with great room darkening curtians. The staff were friendly and so helpful. The diner attached to the hotel is just another added bonus! Great food any time of the day or night!
The only thing I could say as a negative about this hotel is that they do not have a pool/hot tub.
- iver0185 (6/5): It's a Bunk House, Not a Hotel! - First, the staff is very friendly, and the rooms are clean. The breakfast at the diner is great.
There is ONE problem: This place is a bunk house. The beds are cots. They are mattresses thrown onto a cot (no box spring). There is no lobby. You check in through the diner, which is award. You also have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get into the hotel, as the patio is at the front door. YUK! If they had real beds, a real lobby, and you didn't have to risk cancer while walking through smoke to get to your room, I would have given it 5 stars.
- Dennis (10/5): - Nice clean place with decent breakfast options at Penny's Diner....just adjacent to the motel & also used as motel Front Desk
- Ginger (4/5): - I booked through Expedia, they cancelled my reservation and then when i showed up they ended up charging me more than I was originally booked for.
Staff were regularly seen around the area not wearing masks, including at the restaurant.
I’ve never stayed at a hotel that did not have a comforter on the bed, they only had sheets. I pulled the one from the closet and it was dusty and itchy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stay - It was a great stay. Even though Covid 19 was causing some restrictions the staff was very good.
