Guest Reviews
- Wayne (2/5): - This property is CLOSED due to a fire a couple of months ago. They didn't let me know and Expedia wouldn't refund me. Thankfully I booked alternative accomodation after Googling the hotel and finding out about the fire. I even went to the hotel during my time in NY and it's completely boarded up. Not a good experience to be messed around like this as others won't know it's closed until they get there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Staff seemed friendly enough, but you're getting what you pay for. Not a single horizontal surface to set anything on aside from the bed, so I ended up tying the trash can liner around the interior door knob so I could turn the trash can upside down and use it as a bedside table. The inclusion of a wall mounted fan was nice though.
- Kurt (6/5): - Convenience .
- Dahmane (4/5): - There was a terrible bad smell
- Kervens (10/5): - Good
- Mohammed (10/5): - very good place for the price
- Igor (2/5): - Bedbugs in 3 rooms. Now my body is covered in bites.
- Kevin (2/5): - The hostel doesn't have a working email address or phone line.
- Weijun (6/5): - cheap stay only and couldn't get you more than that.
- Karin (6/5): - The room was okay in regards to the price, but the bathrooms could have been much cleaner.
- harpartap (2/5): - this is by far the worst hotel I have ever come across.. No one should stay here even for free
- Anele (2/5): - They had a good customer service but I was not overall pleased with the property ,It was so dirty and stinky especially the bathroom and they might consider having the washing machine somewhere far from the room or atleast operate certain times and not during the night when we’re trying to sleep (it was loud) .They should enforce security pretty much smelt cigarettes, someone was smoking inside
- Kevin (4/5): Needs renovation immediately! - Most of the bathroom was not working. The ones that is needs renovation immediately. I think it fails a lot of fire codes and habitant regulations
- tosin (2/5): Please don't do it. - It's cheap and in a good location but other than that it's very very bad. The entrance door at the bottom of the stairs is always open. I walked in to three kids smoking weed on the stair case, this was my welcome to the hotel. Got up stairs, was allowed in , I looked around and I felt like walking back out but I'm in a new country and after a 10 HR flight I just wanted to sleep. It smelt bad, I went to my room to find a stained towel folded in the bed which had stands of black hair. I washed for a different room, the second was no better but at least a bit cleaner. There's lots of homeless people in there, asking for money as you walk in and out the hotel, the bathrooms and toilets OMG! It's beyond bad. I closed my eyes to have a shower, I used McDonald's toilets all through out my stay, wash hand basin was blocked and full of used water. It's cheap but it's horribly bad in there. I was counting down days to leave. Now I left.. I definitely will not return. But the guys there are nice, mainly Chinese I guess it's a family business. You are also close to little Italy and the subways. If you can afford elsewhere , do go elsewhere.
- Aidan (2/5): - The location is 2nd to none. We were located close to subway stations and within walking distance to most of NYC'S hot spots. Staff were friendly. When we arrived and a few other times we were inside the building, there was a staff member cleaning the building, but the building itself is just so beyond needing a clean. It needs to be repaired desperately. We are not at all fancy people and can handle some things, but I however puked at the sight of black mold and broken ceilings in the urine aroma filled bathroom. I was unable to use the washroom to shower or urinate for the 4 days we stayed. As for bed bugs, we were safe - our sheets were clean and the mattress creases were free of bugs. That being said, our 4th and final night - my 2am wake up call from a cockroach crawling on my face was the final straw. I stayed awake until 4:30 am when we headed to catch our flight.
In a sense, I am thankful our stay wasn't the greatest because we did everything not to hang out inside even when the weather wasn't the best and managed to see so much while there.
If you don't mind cockroaches and are just looking for a place to rest your head, then it serves it's purpose.
- Anna (2/5): - Completely unlivable, felt so unsafe, smelled so bad, was so noisy and even the largest room is literally a closet with no windows. Didn't end up staying here because of the conditions.
- Hyun (2/5): - Absolutely unsanitary and degrading for human occupancy. To top it off, found a live bed bug crawling on the bed. The front desk apologetic but no action taken at all to remediate or redress the situation. I left without staying overnight. A truly traumatic experience that I would not wish upon my worst enemy.
- Saurav (8/5): - Good property and in prime location in New York
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good property and in prime location in New York
- Natasha (4/5): - I stayed here about a month ago and while it wasn't amazing, it didn't cross the line into roaches. I found one in my room during my stay this time.
You get what you pay for here, which is a closet with a bed and water damaged bathrooms down the hall without provided toilet paper or soap. You have to ask them for toilet paper and then keep it in your room. I ended up donating some hand soap I bought from a nearby store.
- Wei (2/5): - Everything is terrible besides location.
- Bryan (6/5): - Very nice people. Very poor conditions.
- Shamir Isa (10/5): - It was good for the price
- Michael (2/5): - This was NOT a hotel room. This was a broom closet with a bed. I checked out a 3 am and couldn't wait to get out. How WOTIF can charge $150 for this hole in the wall and sleep at night is beyond me. And they had the gall to write me that I grabbed a bargain !
- Guillermo (4/5): - Room is very small. It can't even fit a chair. It doesn't have windows. The bathrooms are smelly and not clean. Bring your slippers and toilet paper. Hand sanitazier is a must. It's affordable but I can't recommend it.
- Nurul (2/5): - Very bad condition very bad smell is a lot of homeless over there
- Raymond (6/5): - Front desk was yelling at a homeless person while I was sleeping, pretty annoyed by that. I don’t think the front desk/landlord should host homeless people in the lobby. It’s filthy and unsanitary. Honestly I wished front desk call the police to get them removed from the premises for loitering/trespassing, I can’t bother to deal with the lack of safety while walking through the lobby. Shame.
- Ian (8/5): What you pay for - You get what you pay for. Very small room with shared bathroom. Relatively clean but building is falling apart. Open holes in the ceiling in bathroom, sometimes drips water. Friendly staff and good location.
- Joel (4/5): - This is the barest of spaces. Rooms are windowless closets. Mine was noisy from a TV going all night (2 am until 7:30 am). The bathrooms down the hall are dirty, have no toilet paper in any of them, have no mirrors, and dubious plumbing. Pillow was uncomfortable; no top sheet, just a blanket. The only positive, other than price, was that the single sheet was clean.
- Anastasia (2/5): - Dirty, smelly, unsafe. junkies always hang out around the entrance, some of them lay down there passed out by the stairs. Mold in the bathrooms. Unclean. I didn’t risk to use the shower.
Find something else.
- Shauna (2/5): - This place must cease to operate.
It is a danger to itself and others. Examples from my attempt to stay include: an overdosed woman who had soiled herself was laying in the entrance area atop trash bags of her belongings (I'm genuinely worried about her too - is she ok? Do they even care?), excrement on the walls of the bathroom, no toilet paper or soap, rooms were not even rooms - just sectioned off areas with a grid on top (meaning open ceilings - with cigarette smoke freely passing room to room which is NOT "non smoking"), in general an insecure area e.g. people not staying there we're climbing in and out of a window leading to the fire escape to linger and/or use drugs in the bathrooms then leave.
This scam must close and stop harming the community.
- Emre (2/5): - BED BUGS AND ROACHES!!!
TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY
- Justin (4/5): - Know what you are getting and you will be fine. It will be a closet. You will see a lot of cockroaches. The bathrooms are pretty gross. As long as you are ok with it the value cant be beat.
- Jason (6/5): - The room was okay and reasonably clean.
However the bathroom and shower was filthy. They need to clean the mold off the walls.
- Natasha (4/5): - If you're looking at this property, go onto Airbb and book a room in a house instead. A room in an Aibnb will have more privacy and amenities than this space.
That warning aside, this place is a great example of you getting what you pay for. The room itself was a closet with basically just a bed. To go to the bathroom or shower, you have to go down the hallway outside your room and use one of 3 bathrooms in moldy condition. One of the bathrooms had a leaky pipe that drips down an anyone using the toilet. All of them had water damage on the ceiling.
As far as what to bring here, I'd highly recommend staying here without shower shoes based on the visible condition of the bathrooms alone. I also had to ask for toilet paper since there isn't any stocked in the bathrooms at all.
If you're ok with the above, staff is nice and functions as a 24 hour doorman. I didn't see any pest issues despite the water damage in the bathrooms.
- Amy (2/5): - Dirty, small rooms.
- Sarah (4/5): - The staff was lovely remembered my name and wrre very kind and helpful. The building however was in dreadful need of repair. Significant water damage in the bathrooms the ceiling was dripping and peeling. The outlet in the room was too loose to work. There was also not toilet paper in the bathrooms
- Gnid (4/5): - You got what you paid for
- mohameden (2/5): - After 3 nights in this horrible hotel
I didn't sleep two of them because of the noise,
Som guests are drunks and yelling all night and some are sick and screaming while they sleeping, everywhere small bad
Ubder the bridge with homlesses is better than this this hotel
- Marco (2/5): - There was mold everywhere in the bathroom and shower. The rooms are bug infested. It smelled really bad
- Rupal (2/5): - Terrible experience. Filthy bathrooms. Dinky bed and room has no amenities even to make tea or coffee. Would not stay again even if free. Dont waste your time or money. Disgusting for Expedia to even list this hostel. It should not be called a hotel. Dont know how it has pased code. Avoid!!
- Esteban (10/5): - Individual rooms were excellent.
- MUHAMMAD (2/5): - Please do not waste your money, this property is is not able for stay, very dirty, unsafe and unhygienic.
Becarefull
- ???? (8/5): - Service
- Jennifer (4/5): - The staff there were great, the mattress comfortable, and the rooms well air conditioned. Unfortunately those are the only positive things I can say.
3/4 toilets were clogged, yet there is no toilet paper. Bathrooms don't look like they're ever cleaned. I was too disgusted to use the shower and thankfully only needed to stay one night.
The friendliness of the staff is the only reason I've given stars.
- Yao (6/5): - You got what you paid for, for those never lived in a hostel this could be in poor condition. Very basic room for just a bed, not shared, not sound proof. Light shined through the AC vent. Need improvement in the shared bathroom.
Easy access to NYU and lower Manhattan. No complaint here. Super nice staff. Would recommend to budget travelers. For whoever complaint, you need to spend 3x more in the neighborhood to be "acceptable"
- Arjun (2/5): - Property very dirty
- Cuong (4/5): - Not great
- saleh (2/5): - I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel. The experience was far from what was depicted in the photos on your website, leading to several disappointments during my visit.
Firstly, the cleanliness of the hotel was highly unsatisfactory. The room was not properly cleaned, and there were numerous insects present, which is unacceptable. Additionally, the general hygiene of the hotel left much to be desired.
Moreover, I found the staff to be disrespectful and unhelpful. This lack of professionalism significantly impacted my stay.
The room had a strong, unpleasant odor that made it uncomfortable to stay in. Overall, my experience at your hotel was very disappointing.
I hope you take immediate action to address these issues to prevent future guests from having a similar experience.
- Seon (2/5): - Found a bedbug and they don't gave us even a single dollar refund. The picture is scam. Just don't go here even your bugget is limited.
- GM (4/5): - Low class hotel
- Ramachandra (4/5): - Q
- Jaco (2/5): - It's not a clean place at all, and the shared bathrooms were in a terrible state. I felt dirty just being in the bathrooms.
- John (2/5): - Bathrooms were unusable, gnats everywhere, terrible smell, impossible to shower
- Adit (2/5): - Bed Bugs
- Timothy (2/5): - I appreciated that I was allowed to check in early and they kindle held my bags the day of my departure.
The bedding sheets had red, brown and yellow stains. When I peeled them off to take to the office if I could get a cleaner set, the mattress was filled with urine stains. I felt disgusted to sleep on it. The bathrooms were equally unclean: little bugs flying around, the ceilings leaking water making the floors a dirty mess. My intuition was constantly screaming at me to leave and find a better hotel.
- Mahala (2/5): - Staff was great but property was disgusting
- Vijay (2/5): - Totally different room to what was shown in the picture
- Naveen (2/5): - Place is maintained in a horrible manner and no attached restrooms available. Water leakage was all over the hotel.
- LILIYA (8/5): - Great location, very accessible. Toilettries were provided. Rooms remind more jail cells, no windows, no solid ceiling, no AC, fan only. I was able to see the light through the mesh board on my ceiling and I heard very clearly staff talking at the reception. Other than small room size condition of the bathroom is not the best. I took shower, it was no shelf inside to put your soap, ceiling was loft type with exposed piping and dripping to the floor. Hot water boiler was a nice surprise. I would recommend ceiling and bathrooms remodelling. Other than that it's tolerable.
- Jacob (10/5): - Front desk clerks always being very courteous and good with customers
- HANLIN (4/5): - Awful
- Michaela (4/5): - Overall OK if you don't have any demands. The staff is very friendly! Unfortunately the building is very old and unkempt. The rooms are very small and it smells. Unfortunately I also find the bathrooms very disgusting! But it was a place where I wasn't afraid
- Naqib (2/5): - It was the worst staying place I have ever seen. The property was dirty, drug smoke around and living room was not as described. I was rented the place for 3 nights, but I left the property in 15 minutes. I personally do not recommend to anyone.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Single rooms are extremely tiny. Restrooms don't take long to get messy. My mattress had the funk of stale sweat. I remedied that with sanitary wipes laid over the sheet and under the blanket. It was not perfect, but it helped. The place is relatively inexpensive.
- Erica (8/5): - It was great for what it is - a hostel. Clean, safe, inexpensive. And the staff was very nice.
- Jose (2/5): - To dirty
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Rooms are tiny. Beds are also tiny in single rooms. Cameras are prohibited.
- Gaurav (2/5): - Serious hygiene issues. Utterly disappointed with the state of the rooms
- zhenyu (2/5): - The room was too small and not soundproof at all. People kept calling or chatting, making it impossible to sleep.
- zhenyu (2/5): - The room was too small and not soundproof at all. People kept calling or chatting, making it impossible to sleep. There are no windows.
- Hysni (2/5): - Real dirty, the noise is out of any imagination. It is not a real hotel/motel, its just space divided in spaces enough to fit a small bed and there is no ceiling, the whole floor shares a sigle ceiling because the walls do not reach the ceiling. Worst experience I ever had
- Raja Prithu (2/5): - As soon as I entered the reception, there were 2 homeless people right there staring at me.
It felt very unsafe and it was very noisy.
Please refund me if you can.
It was pathetic
- Rhyan (2/5): Beware!!!! Stay here at your own risk!! - Absolutely horrible. This was zero out of 10. This is the epitome of false advertisement, whereas the pictures listed did not look anything like what I seen once I arrived. The conditions are horrible. Everything needs to be remodeled, there is mold and grime in the bathrooms. The stairwells have graffiti on the doors and walls mimicking a project or public assistance housing. The guests staying were foreigners which is fine, or legit disheveled and grungy looking street walkers who loiter in the lobby area. The bed takes up 90% of the room it’s the size of a prison cell. And the bedding was dirty. I only spent 4 hours there in my one night stay and laid my personal towels over the bed to feel somewhat comfortable. All in all worst hostel I’ve ever experienced and I’m ashamed that this property is even listed on hotels.com …. I deserve compensation for my stay in that nightmare hostel. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at all costs.
- Nancy (10/5): - Lower Manhattan is historic and atmospheric. This can't be denied.
- CHRISTOPHER (2/5): - Hotel is a scam. Do yourself favor and skip this roach ridden hostel.
- Megan (2/5): - This hotel/hostel should not be rented out by Expedia. Upon arrival all I could hear was the high pitched beeping of a fire alarm battery dying. They said there was nothing they could do and just let it beep all night long every few minutes. No toilet paper or soap on the bathrooms ever. Woke up this morning and there was a roach in my shoe. Bugs in the bathrooms. No quiet hours, other guests screaming at all hours of the night. No sink in the room like there was on the picture of the room I booked. As a solo female traveller, I felt extremely unsafe in this room. I would like compensation for this absolute nightmare.
- Jared (2/5): - Fleas, green crap on the walls next to the bed. I could hear people hacking up and spitting. It smells like a homeless shelter. Urine and vinegar...
- Francesca (6/5): - The pros of staying in this hostel: they keep your bags after checkout and it’s in a good location- surrounded by cheap eats (hard thing to find in NYC) and the metro is less than a 5 minute walk away.
The cons: stinks of smoke, there’s no toilet paper in the bathroom, no heating and we were woken up every morning by people shouting in the reception area. Once there was a man screaming that he was going to stay no matter what and that they couldn’t make him leave. Fair to say you don’t exactly feel safe.
Overall, if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and you’re not a solo female traveler this is a good option given how cheap it is for NYC. Otherwise, I don’t recommend this at all
- Louis (2/5): - This is not a hotel or a hostel or even a safe place to stay. To best describe this place is a homeless shelter for drugs users. The room was uninhabitable . There was no bed, it was a prison cot. PLEASE TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION AND REMOVE THIS ABANDONED UNIT FROM YOUR WEBSITE. The pictures displayed on Expedia are FALSE and MISREPRESENTING and TARNISHING Expedia's good name. I frequently use Expedia, because I trusted the reviews of the properties. This place is an OUTRAGE. I appreciate your help , Lou
- Anthony (4/5): - Poor
- Alexander (6/5): - Good
- Lonelle (2/5): Trash.dirty. - Don't do it to yourself.put up an extra 50 and get you a hotel.In this hostel it's like a jail style slash homeless shelter.you hear people snoring,farting loud...no class.filthy bathroom.omg I can't do it.
- David (8/5): - Its just an affordable place to sleep.
Small rooms but felt safe.
- ROBERT (2/5): - Cool
- LE HANG (6/5): - No frills hostel. Was difficult to sleep due to no ceiling. But the staff were extremely nice and helpful.
Staying here is only recommended if you know what a more affordable hostel entails.
- Kurt (10/5): - Convenient Location with quick access to public transportation .
- Brandon (4/5): - This place would be a steal if they emphasized cleanliness. The small rooms are fine for solo travelers, hearing your neighbors snore is a pain but a bit overblown by the other reviews, and the bathrooms were fine (I'd advise you to bring shower shoes). But this establishment has bedbugs and that is completely inexcusable. If the Bowery Grand Hotel just washed their damn sheets consistently, it would be the greatest value for a room in NYC. Until that day comes, I'd advise you to stay away.
- Tatsiana (2/5): - This place has bed bugs and fleas. Avoid this place. Had to throw away the suitecase and all clothes I had on me. Homeless people live in the lobby area and smoke inside. No jokes, never expected to see anything like that
- Jake (10/5): - Great for da money
- Tristan (2/5): - The room was just a size of a closet. Almost couldn’t fit my suitcase in it.Can’t hardly even move around. There is no ceilings. Just wires. While in your room You can hear the others on the snoring, coughing, watching videos on their cell phones. I had trouble sleeping and was woken up numerous times during the night. The lobby had at least 2 to 3 homeless people sleeping in it.The bathrooms are old and moldy. No toilet paper & paper towels.
- Shivprasad (8/5): - Convenient location. Near to the subway. Affordable. The room was ok for the price.
- Verified traveler (4/5): not the worst place to stay ever, but not good - the bathrooms were a little gross, and the room wasn't the cleanest ever (but no bugs in the bed or anything). it's kind of 50/50 whether or not the bathroom you enter has toilet paper or not.
honestly the worst thing was being unable to sleep due to how thin the walls were - you can hear every time someone takes the stairs or has a conversation/coughs/sneezes in the hallway or lobby. even though i brought earplugs, i only slept for a few hours due to the sheer amount of noise.
if you literally can't afford to stay anywhere better then it's acceptable, but if you have wiggle room in your budget i would say to find someplace else where you'll actually be able to sleep.
- Alexander (6/5): - Very friendly staff. Kind and hospitable. Very affordable stay for Manhattan. Rooms need to be painted. Walls are dirty. Towel also had stains. Bathrooms need deep cleaning. With a little bit more care it could be a whole lot nicer.
- Noor (2/5): - Everything is dirty, no hand sanitizer in the lobby, seen people engaged in fighting in the lobby, broken the sink. Beyond a third-class hotel.
- Oscar (10/5): - The room was private and the bathroom, while shared and around the hall, was clean and the water had good pressure. The staff was excellent and available 24/7 This place is in the middle of China Town
- Gasser (2/5): - The property wasn't clean at all, and it didn't feel safe at all. The reception was full of homeless people, and the receptionist wasn't friendly and was aggressive as he didn't speak English.
- Francisco (10/5): Very accommodating place like me. - Very nice accommodation you have a good one room the space is good for only one person, you can bring family or friends, and the bathroom is good. I rate it excellent for me.
- Jose (2/5): - Unsafe please this place needs to be cancelled I was fear for my life.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - There were bugs and holes all over the room. The bathroom was dirty and didn't have any TP or anything. The other residents were noisy and loud. Would not stay again.
