Most recently I made an error but instead of stating the obvious, they were their classy usual selves and helped me correct it instead of berating me. Our group will always choose the Hume hotel for the entire experience. We also love the Library lounge and restaurant. Wr thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails and meal there again. Kellee (1/5): In the end, it was not the noise but the handling of it that defined this stay. - Hotel was located in the right place. If you’re considering staying at The Hume Hotel in Nelson, read this first. We booked a room that did mention potential noise from the pub below—fair enough. What was not disclosed was the level of disruption we actually experienced: sustained, excessive noise, including loud altercations late into the night that made it impossible to rest. When we raised the issue, we were moved to a “premium suite,” which sounded promising—but the noise followed us. So the “solution” didn’t actually solve anything. We were also offered breakfast, only to be told the next morning it was restricted to a few items and coffee wasn’t included. Not a huge issue on its own, but it added to a pattern of inconsistent communication and half-follow-through. To their credit, they did offer a partial discount. However, what truly stood out—and not in a good way—was the hotel’s final written response to us. Instead of acknowledging the experience or taking accountability, they blamed us for booking a lower-priced room and ended their message with: “Please stay somewhere else upon your next visit to Nelson.” That alone tells you everything you need to know about how this hotel handles customer concerns. This isn’t about expecting luxury—it’s about basic hospitality, accurate communication, and professional treatment. Unfortunately, this stay missed the mark on all three. There are plenty of other places in Nelson that understand what hospitality actually means. I would strongly recommend choosing one of them instead.

matthewhF259JF (10/5): Lovely hotel lovely people. - We visited in September for a few days renting a suite. and enjoyed it so much we extended our stay and they accommodated us. Due to this stay we thought we would book again. This time we stayed in a king room, it was clean tidy and huge. As per normal the breakfast in the morning, was excellent. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and chatty and made you feel relaxed. We drank and ate a few times Mike's place, the service and the food and drink were excellent. The reception staff were always cheerful and friendly and the room attendants, were always cheerful with a hello. We travel alot and all the places we have stayed in Europe and North America this is our favourite. The hotel is tastefully designed and very clean. Staff are super friendly and helpful. When visiting this area we would not consider another hotel.

Verified traveler (10/5): Would stay here again - Only complaint is that the walls of the rooms are EXTREMELY thin, so you can hear people's conversations. Other than that, it is a lovely property with very friendly staff and outstanding restaurants. Great central location, wonderful AC, and comfy beds. The shower had hot water for days!! And the spa was delightful!

JoshuaR784 (10/5): The only place to stay in Nelson! - We loved our stay at the Hume in Nelson! The hotel is situated in the center of this colorful town. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Parking was not provided but wasn't a problem as I had anticipated as there is a ramp right next door that is fairly affordable and the hotel comped our parking for 2 nights anyway. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. It's an old hotel in the center of town so anticipated a little street noise, but again this wasn't a problem for us. Everything in the room worked great. We didn't try any of the attached restaurants but it smelled good and the bars looked great. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Nelson.

Bodo (6/5): Nice hotel, good location. Hated not being able to look out the windows. This should have been known - Location and general feel of the hotel. The room had now view with windows that were treated so you could not look out.
Carey (10/5): - Awesome stay at this hotel with a lovely historic vibe. Beds are super comfy, air conditioning was excellent and very quiet. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and efficient. Gave us great tips about the neighborhood. Can’t get much better a location for walkability in downtown Nelson.
Mark (10/5): - Fantastic property! Exceptional staff, always ready to help. The spa was wonderful. Several dining and beverage options. The Library was fantastic both noghts we dined there and had live jazz music. Breakfast was included and was terrific! Coffee excellent! Room was clean, well maintained and decorated. The barhroom had a full tub and shower. Old hotel that has been lovingly restored/updated. We loved the atmosphere. One block walk to the main shopping street and bars/restaurant options. Nelson ia a beautiful town and the Anglican church was open and was breathtaking! Family owned hotel. We will be back!
