Guest Reviews
- Lynn (9/5): The staff all went the extra mile to ensure our stay was comfortable -
- Jo-Anne (10/5): Excellent a beautiful place š really lovely. - Everything the room was beautiful clean and comfortable the staff were lovely. Breakfast was beautiful. The views were fabulous very pleased. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again Nothing . It exceeded all expectations
- Joseph (7/5): Nice location, warm clean room. - Room was good. Location nice. Chefs uniform
- Morag (7/5): Very expensive and badly maintained. Nowhere to wash properly! - Excellent cleaning. Good location near White Horse. Quiet. Parking close to room. We stayed in room 4. No hot water or sink plug. When pointed out to breakfast staff, no apology, just 'I'll tell the manager'. No further contact. Found out later that this had been known about for some time but no action taken. Cleaning and washing floor taking place while eating breakfast, which was very meagre for the money paid.

- Edwina (9/5): Really enjoyable. Lovely village - When we arrived we were slightly disappointed but the staff couldnāt have been nicer. Nothing was too much trouble. The menu was pretty standard- usual pub-grub but tasted good. We only ate there the first night- just not enough variety. Breakfast was excellent. Cooked to order and good quality ingredients. The bedroom was fine but the pub was a little soulless. Sure that it will improve. The landlord has only been there 5 months and is still finding out what works best for people. He is very friendly and easy to talk to.

- lorraine (10/5): Loved it, ask for room 4, right on the end overlooking wonderful countryside ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø - Lovely little pub in an peaceful village.
Check in swift, room was just right, large bed, plenty of room, very clean.
Car parking just outside the room.
Friendly staff and locals.
Nice well priced food and drink.
Lovely countryside
All in all perfect š Nothing
- Sue (9/5): Relaxing stay, very comfortable, peaceful village location. Great evening meal - Perfect location for our visit to Lambourn. Friendly staff and a warm welcome. Nothing
- Guest (9/5): Good venue , great location with excellent views. -
- Patrick (10/5): Would defiinitely book again. - the accommodation was very nice, everything you need. Breakfast was lovely although would have liked some fruit and more toast. Tea served first but by the time food came out tea was cold. Only chef serving.
- Ian (10/5): -
- Malcolm (8/5): Just what we needed - Locations
- Charlotte (8/5): Very welcoming indeed but just a shame the pub was not open for business. - The accommodation was lovely and clean, very welcoming and nicely done indeed. The staff were exceptionally lovely, accommodating, polite and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. This is no reflection on the accommodation itself but it would have been nice to know when booking that the pub was not open on Monday evenings. I feel this was the fault of Booking.com, though of course I could have checked myself, it just didnāt cross my mind that, having made a reservation, the pub would not be open for business. I specifically booked a country pub so we could arrive, have a bite to eat and a drink and make something of our evening after a long journey. As it was, we had to eat at another pub around 20 minutes away, somewhat defeating the object. Worth noting that, just because the accommodation is open, the pub is not necessarily. Otherwise there was nothing not to like.
- Malcolm (9/5): Very pleasant stay, and the manager (Rich) is doing a great job to improve the place. - Excellent breakfast and very friendly management and staff. Great view up to the Uffington white horse. Chef was away on holiday, so one breakfast available.
- Victoria (10/5): This was a quiet and restful stay. - A fabulous location and the kindest staff. The chef had gone on holiday so the staff helped us to order food to be delivered, and equipped us with cutlery and crockery. The cabin-type room was private, comfortable and very clean. The landlord was keen to help us with putting our motorcycles on safe standing, and everyone was very kind all of our stay. That we had to leave.
- Niall (10/5): Excellent value for money, and very friendly staff. - 4 chalets are set slightly apart from pub, in lovely village setting with views of nearby hills and Uffington Horse. Very comfortable, en-suite accommodation with fridge in the room and good wi-fi reception. Very good breakfast included. Excellent value for money, and will definitely stay again when visiting again. Good base for trips to Oxford. Nothing
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - This pub is the perfect getaway so quiet very friendly set in acres of countryside. The staff are amazing people that go that extra mile which made our stay. The food is excellent and traditional accommodation is first class with all rooms external to the pub itself making for a peaceful night's sleep it made our two nights extra special. We will definitely return. Absolutely nothing brilliant establishment
- Audrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (8/5): Very good -
- Jo (10/5): Quaint B&B in a quite location - The location of this Pub B&B is in the countryside, a really peaceful, quaint pub. Fields surrounding it, and beautiful views.
The staff in the bar were absolutely lovely, so welcoming and helpful, nothing was ever too much.
Nice outdoor seating so enjoy a cold drink in the sunshine. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.
I would definitely go back if the need arises.
- Stewart (9/5): A bird in the hand - Location and great value couldn't be happier There was a cockerel which made itself known around 4 30am have to say it wasn't welcome š
- William (8/5): Very good - Lovely countryside views, peaceful, nice village with pleasant footpaths and thatched cottages. Very friendly, good food.
- Dana (10/5): Stunning room, lovely staff - Gorgeous room, private parking, very welcoming host & staff The cockerel woke us up in the morning but that is part and parcel of being in the countryside!!
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Houghton (9/5): Lovely countryside pub - would stay again. - Great location. Lovely staff. Friendly locals. Nothing
- Helen (7/5): Good -
- Barry (9/5): Nice tidy clean, local inn pleasant stay.! - Nice location, nice hosts. Nothing at all
- Chris (8/5): Enjoyable and met expectations - Room, Location, Staff, Welcome Breakfast could have offered cereals
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect! The rooms, food, staff and the locals . Would definitely recommend and also stay here again on our way down South again.
- Andrew (8/5): Great location and delightful staff. - It is located in beautiful surrounding and has the charm of a country pub with very good facilities and friendly, helpful staff. It was centrally located near Swindon and Oxford. The breakfast was simple but included full English. Dinner options were limited. The information about alternative eating options were limited as we had to research ourselves a Michelin rated restaurant nearby. The shower was interesting in its operation, especially contrasting with Australian plumbing. The room was cramped when you have two suitcases spread out.
- Martin (9/5): Relaxed and friendly stay in lovely village - Lovely staff. Own entrance to your room. Lovely village. All good.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (10/5): Really good, and wish the new team well! -
- Sarah (9/5): Would recommend - Lovely place, friendly people, great food
- Nicola (9/5): Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room, great breakfast! - Great location, views of the Uffington White horse, friendly staff, comfortable room and fab breakfast!
- Angela (8/5): Very good - Lovely location, very welcoming staff. Basic food options but adequate for our needs That we were unable to stay longer!
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Stuart (10/5): The perfect place for walks, views, peace and quiet, good food and ales. - The location is outstanding with views of the White Horse, the peace and quiet is unparalleled, the accommodation just the best with really comfortable beds and spacious cabins. The proprietor Richard was very helpful and made our stay at this popular pub excellent. We've got more walks planned and will definitely use them again. Not just here but with most places, could have something simple like vegan sausages or pies in the freezer for guests who are either vegan or gluten intolerant\.
- Paul (5/5): Disappointing - Comfy but small room Easter weekend, no chef working.
- Cathryn (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Not far to go to see beauty spots - The bed was massive and very comfortable.
- Dawn (10/5): Lovely couple of days in beautiful sunshine, we were made to feel very welcome. - Rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. Food, both evening and breakfast, was excellent and served with a smile. All staff very friendly and helpful and a lovely atmosphere. Nothingš
- Valerie (9/5): Unexpected country gem in beautiful Oxfordshire village - Extremely comfortable zip and link beds. Good shower. Excellent breakfast and good chef with all the potential to be first class. New owner on only his 4th day as owner of this Freehouse inn with 4 bedroom cabins could not do enough for us all despite the behind the scenes chaos there must have been. Modest cost for the quality. Rooms are alongside the main pub in 4 adjoining two person cabins (plus small Z-bed for child if needed). Lovely countryside and village which seems friendly and welcoming. Itās in the country in a stunningly pretty village so there are farm animals including a cockerel! There is some noise from the adjoining car park. Would prefer blinds to net curtains but there are also normal curtains. There will be improvements with some changes coming to the pub menu which, for this visit, was plain and simple. The settling in process will take a little while but for a simple overnight stay or a few days in this lovely area cabins are fine and the pub has plenty of space to sit and chat.
- Brendan (8/5): Very good -
- Roger (4/5): Disappointing - Room was OK Booked with intention of having dinner and breakfast. In the event no dining room on a Tuesday and nobody turned up to provide breakfast at the time agreed. We were on a schedule so had to find breakfast elsewhere. Contacted them later to complain - no offer of a refund for the missed breakfast. Won't be using them again.
- Judy (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Very nice location staff were outstanding brilliant service - Excellent location, great accommodation very good Nice and clean facilities very good, service outstanding very very nice place to stay
- Nuala (9/5): Superb - Great staff, great food, comfy bed, lovely hot shower WiFi in the pub but didn't extend to the room
- Sioned (10/5): Great night away and fab food!! - Lovely room and great food and atmosphere. Nothing
- James (9/5): Very enjoyable - Friendliness and comfort Nothing
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay at the Horse & Hounds - wanted to stay longer! - Friendly, helpful hosts, who were happy to accommodate my gluten-free veggie breakfast requests. Delicious breakfast, great location, lovely room. Couldn't fault it!
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Comfortable & well furnished rooms. Great value.
- Rob (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent service & cleanliness throughout. Very friendly with a warm welcome and a great selection of drinks complemented with high quality tasty food . Highly recommended Nothing
- Janine (9/5): Superb - Lovely location, friendly staff, good food Nothing,
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Fiona (10/5): Warm, welcoming hosts. A gem of a find. - We had a fantastic stay whilst walking the Ridgeway in a weather warning. Michael and Aga could not have been kinder, booking us a table at a neighbouring pub (it was the kitchenās night off), giving us a lift and picking us up, drying all our saturated kit and making sure we had everything we needed. Accommodation is in purpose built rooms which were well appointed and warm.
- Jane (9/5): Superb - A great place. We had a lovely vegan breakfast. Our host went out to get oat milk especially.
- David (8/5): Comfortable welcoming really enjoyed our stay. - Breakfast was well cooked, nicely presented and a good selection. Excellent.
Pub was busy with a good atmosphere. Nothing at all.
- Chris (9/5): Excellent accommodation, located perfectly for our walking activities with good facilities. - The accommodation was situated separately from the Fox & Hounds which was perfect. It was clean & quiet, the shower was excellent and the bed very comfortable. Complimentary toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits were provided which is always a nice touch. The Fox & Hounds provided good, honest pub grub. I don't feel there is anything to not like about the accommodation, location or the Fox & Hounds at all. The one small point would be the light being given off by the emergency exit sign in the night but hey, this is minor!
- Gowlett (10/5): Great stay will be back - Very welcoming pub, lovely bar lady and got to know some of the locals. Breakfast was lovely I the morning, a perfect set up for the day.
Our room was a little cottage type place at the top near the car park. Lovely amd so quiet. Over looking far reaching fields. Lovely shower, tea coffee in room, tv, WiFi. Everything you could want. There was nothing abput this place I didn't like
- Chris (10/5): Lovely staff, great pub, excellent food, comfortable bed and beautiful location. - Staff, building, location all perfect Nothing
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely place, very comfortable, friendly and food is fantastic and good prices
- David (7/5): Very pleasant, meals were amazing. - Location Room rather dark
- Steve (8/5): - Nice looking country village pub asked to fill out a basic information form on arrival
Unfortunately on our particular evening of arrival the restaurant was offline.
- Carol (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pat (8/5): Very comfortable accommodation - The location of this pub is very rural but nice, great for walkers or bikers. The bedroom was spacious, the bed very comfortable with a large wet room. Breakfast was very good and cooked to order. We didnāt actually use any other facilities apart from the bedroom so couldnāt comment.
- Mark (9/5): A perfect quiet countryside retreat with beautiful views! - The staff were friendly and the food was good .. the location was beautiful! Literally, the only thing that bugged me was the lack of air conditioning in the room, which made it very warm and stuffy through the night..( but that's just my personal preference to having a cooler room at night). Otherwise, the room was a perfect place for a family of 3 to stay š
- Anthony (10/5): Brilliant - Amazing views. Very peaceful. Staff superb. Everything was good.
- Teresa (7/5): Good -
- Jacqueline (9/5): A pleasant stay in quiet countryside surroundings. - Breakfast was nicely cooked to order and delicious. There was also a choice of cereal. The staff friendly. The area quiet countryside within view of the White horse and not far from The Ridgeway national trail. There was no food served on the evening I arrived. Although there was another pub a mile down the road serving food, I had already walked far enough that day. I fell back on the food supply I carried with me.
- Jane (9/5): I would suggest a fan in the room it was very hot I suppose I could have asked for one , room 4 could have its own gate - It was very convenient for us , was all clean , bed comfortable
- Robert (10/5): Fox and hounds - Great experience great place too stop food amazing exceptionally clean and nothing too much trouble for them definitely recommend in a beautiful quiet pub set in a beautiful village
- Stephen (10/5): Perfect after a day at the air tattoo, very good value would highly recommend - Everything was great, from location to food and the room was lovely N/a
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Stewart (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Brilliant - Lovely location, friendly staff, delicious food, comfortable bed.
- Michael (9/5): Very enjoyable. - Both excellent. Not much.
Bedside lights didn't work, and we had trouble with the TV.
A few more signs to the pub would have been helpful.
- Lesley (9/5): Very happy with all facilities and food. Knowledgeable staff. Will visit again - Breakfast cooked fresh to order. Local bacon was very good Couldāve done with a gate from the car park to property 4
- Susanna (10/5): Amazing. Will visit again! - Amazing location and a beautiful place to stay Nothing to not like
- WINFRID (10/5): Good comfortable clean - Good clean room and bathroom. Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Lee (10/5): beds exhalent walk in shower very good food well cooked, - breakfast was very good,
location very good, nothing
- Debbie (8/5): Very good - Great rooms, awesome location, friendly and accommodating staff Food a little pricey, some portions small, great chips though!
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (9/5): Superb - Privacy and hospitality The hosts were very accommodating and friendly.
Will definitely stay again if in the area
Great shower. Fresh fruit with the breakfast would have been nice.
But excellent breakfast anyway.9
- Alison (9/5): Stay exceeded expectations - Great breakfast, nice room, comfortable bed, very friendly staff, nice food nothing
- Mark (8/5): A very relaxing enjoyable weekend - Immaculately clean, friendly staff nice pub made to feel very welcome. Breakfast excellent and a great location and allowed dogs so really good. Nothing
- Catherine (10/5): Cosy and welcoming . Friendly. Would recommend to anyone - Cost, clean , welcoming , lovely people , attentive, nice breakfast Nothing at all
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Excellent value for money, very welcoming - Breakfast was fab, evening meal was very good, we booked because of the reviews. But most of all the cabin was just what we wanted. As there's 3 of us it's difficult to get an adequate room, but the cabin suited us right down to the ground. And the locals made us so welcome, we will definitely be back. Thank you all š Nothing
- MichƩlle (8/5): Very good -
- Jim (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (9/5): Very good overnight stop but beware Sundays. - Breakfast was very good. Yoghurt would have been nice as well. Comfy bed. Lovely little village, close to several natural attractions. Good walk in shower but a proper shelf is needed in the bathroom instead of that plastic surround. Shame the room was outside of the pub but I guess you couldn't do much about that. Location in the middle of nowhere meant a Sunday night meal was a problem. We had to drive 5 or 6 miles after an already long drive. A bar snack or cheese and biscuits would have done the job.
