Guest Reviews
- Alleyne (10/5): Exceptional - Xavier our host was amazing.
The facilities were very accommodating.
Would definitely come again.
- Christopher J (10/5): - Nice clean quietrelaxing accommodations
- Roustam (9/5): Quiet spot - Everything! Love the spot. The view is amazing. The staff is helpful. 💯
- Tessina (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay in Santosha. The place is beautiful with amazing views and a lovely set up to allow you to relax to the max. Would definitely come back!
- Jaime (9/5): Superb - The quietness and privacy I didn't realize how far it was from the street party and the nightlife. But it was exactly what I needed.
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (4/5): Beautiful views but some serious drawbacks - The view was incredible, and it was nice to stay somewhere rural and untouristic, offering a different side of Barbados. The hiking was great, the pool was usually empty, and the WiFi worked well. The place felt a bit run-down, and the common areas were quite dirty. Housekeeping only came once in a week (though we missed one clean due to sickness). There were no umbrellas by the pool, supposedly because this side of the island is “cooler,” but with UV levels regularly at 10+ and 30°C heat, that didn’t make much sense. The kitchen was extremely basic, the receptionist was quite rude, and the bar was never open during our entire stay (a full week). The towels provided were stained and pretty disgusting.
The local beach wasn’t great—quite dirty and not the picture-perfect Caribbean postcard you might expect.
The location is very remote, which has its pros and cons. It was great to experience a quieter, more authentic part of Barbados without tourists, but getting around was difficult. The area isn’t well-served by taxis—pickUP app drivers didn’t really come out here, and regular taxis were expensive (around €50 for a 25-30 minute ride). If you’re planning to hire a car, that would make things easier (the local rods and driving conditions are quite challenging however).
If you’re looking for a peaceful rural retreat, this place might work for you. On the whole, I don’t regret staying here. Personally, I wouldn’t come here for your entire stay in Barbados (we split our time between Santosha and a hotel elsewhere in a busier part of the island). Overall, it was great to see a different side of Barbados that most tourists perhaps overlook.
- Jannie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Miller (9/5): Superb -
- Dalrymple (7/5): Good -
- Gaywood (5/5): Very expensive, remote - Beautiful facilities Extremely expensive, host not knowledgeable, unbelievable that we had to pay for beach towels and beg for teabags, no open restaurant nearby,...
- Holder (5/5): Passable -
- Barbara (7/5): Good - Clean and spacious room, had all the needed amenities Lacking warmth and coziness. Not at all as pictured. Much more run down and felt somewhat isolated. Very little nearby restaurants/groceries etc.
- Suzanne (7/5): Good - size of rooms were great.
great sized balcony
amazing sea views sunbeds by pool very old and only 4
couldn't sleep because of gale force wind rattling all windows and doors.
Very very remote, we did know but when weather wasn't good absolutely nothing to do
- Christine (8/5): Very good - The location was remote and we rented a car to access Santosha, but it was worth the quiet and relaxation this property provided. We watched monkeys during our breakfast on our patio. We had the pool to ourselves. The view was stunning. The property is a bit dated. Only one burner on our stove top worked.
- Hugh (7/5): Good - There was no hot water in the bath.
- Haynes (7/5): Good overall. - The location, the grounds were really nice and allowed me to truly unplug. The bathroom, the images on the website primarily show the bathroom setup that most rooms have, however, 2 of the rooms are meant to be wheelchair accessible, I love this! To futher optimize this a handrail would be helpful as those with wheelchairs may want to transfer from the chair to another chair to shower or easily transfer to the toilet. In addition, as it is a wet bathroom it would help to have a partitian separating the toilet from the shower as the toilet gets wet when showering. Some clothes specicifically meant to wipe off the toilet would also help given it's proximity to the shower. A larger fridge would also be ideal as if people are staying and plan to bring groceries to cook the mini fridge cannot hold much and it's not a location that allows for easy quick trips to buy food given that it's not in a central location.
- Rickey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cherise (7/5): Good - We loved that it was very intimate. They weren't many options for food close by.
- Uthred (7/5): Nice place with a great location. - Great staff and location. Lots of restaurants close by if you have a car. Building is really showing its age. Owner needs to invest in upkeep. Also furniture, especially lamps were lacking in our suite.
- Shanell (3/5): The views were amazing but santosha needs to improve the condition of the property. - I liked the views. It was amazing location and view. The property is not well maintained. The pools were not cleaned and the property just needs a proper renovation and to be properly maintained. I was disappointed at the condition as it was not what I saw advertised online and for the price. There weren’t even any teabags/coffee or anything including in the room and the appliances were really old.
- Luke (10/5): A second excellent stay at our favourite place on Barbados. Staff were super helpful, especially the manager. - The setting, the staff, the room, everything here is perfect. A few days in paradise.
- Janet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kay (8/5): Ideal space for De-stressing - Quite & relaxing Space grounds
- Hurley (10/5): It was very relaxing, peaceful and fun. - The fresh air and the peaceful atmosphere.
- Virginia Kay (8/5): - The view was fantastic! The receptionist was excellent. The apartment we stayed in had a couple of window shutter problems. One was ready to fall off its hinges and the other took us a long time to get closed.
- Kevin (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! - Very nice place to stay! Nice, quiet, tranquil and a island breeze that was amazing. The bed could have been a little more comfortable.. But that would be my only complaint really.
- Tanisha (8/5): - The view was beautiful, a peaceful place; the staff was friendly and courteous. It's not hot on this side; it's very breezy. The internet was not good for using the TV, and the stove sometimes wouldn't turn on. The reception guy came a few times to help us. Those two things could be improved.
- Helen (9/5): Perfect rustic peaceful retreat. - Views totally amazing. Large accommodation. Plenty of storage. Clean charming, peaceful. Super pool. Air conditioning only in bedroom.
- Curtis (9/5): Brilliant..the view from our apartment......Best ever since first visit in 1981, - The View..................From room 302.........splendid!! There was a water outage, no fault of Santosha....
- Julie (5/5): Location gorgeous, but needs serious TLC - Staff lovely, helpful if issues, pool nice, views nice Lack of cooking implements, hob was poor, lighting disastrous, only 1 bulb working in kitchen and lounge. Shower was dirty, hard wooden seating, no cushions, air con poor in bedroom due to 1 inch gap in window frame. No back up plan for power cut we had, no torches or candles. Not enough beds at pool for ratio of guests. Wellness centre on website - non existence on actual site.
- Jenny (6/5): - We were woken up at 7.30am by housekeeping knocking on our door asking if we wanted our room cleaned. Had no water for 12 hrs - it was an area issue but the property could have monitored the tank.
- Angie (8/5): Stunning views - Great location, amazing views
Lovely pool Felt a bit isolated as very few guests
No bar or food available
- Faet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Parris (8/5): Very good -
- Ryeka (10/5): Exceptional - Peace & quiet
- Carlos (9/5): Positive and serene environment. Wonderful retreat location - The serene atmosphere and the privacy of the area Everyone has a different perception based on there expectations. While room for improvement is always welcomed, for me personally I didn’t have any major challenges. However, I expected piping hot water coming out of the shower but that was not the case. However this was not a major deterrent in changing my positive perception of the property.
- Cynthia (6/5): - For other travelers get recent photos of the property.
If you stay on the third floor no elevator, car required.
Do your due diligence read all reviews.
- Steve (9/5): Xavier was a great help and a fantastic person to get information from in regards to the area. -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Shawn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bassment (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Randy (7/5): I went there to decompress and I got that. I was able to do some long runs and some hiking -
- Stephanie (9/5): Stunning location, beautiful hotel. - Xavier was super helpful and checked us in and out with no issues. The view from our room was stunning. We were also grateful for air conditioning! Pool was lovely - we had a lovely stay. It's quite remote, so it would be nice if there were some basics in the room like tea or coffee, or some drinks in the fridge with a price list. Especially for when guests arrive late at night during low season. Walls are thin and balconies are separated by tarp so we could hear our neighbours - but not a huge issue. Just don't expect silence :)
- Nadia (8/5): - It was peaceful
- Barbora (8/5): Very good - We had an amazing view from our balcony. Complimentary movies on TV. Beautiful location. At night we had two cockroaches running on plates inside the kitchen cabinets.
AC is weak.
- Shareen (8/5): Very good -
- Denese (10/5): Exceptional - My Daughter and I love everything about this place 😍 The atmosphere especially is calming relaxing and soothing. I could definitely sleep outside if not for mosquitoes and other things lol . I love the woods it was my favourite place to relax and both pools were warm and rejuvenating. The receptionist was really pleasant and friendly. He made sure we were well taken care of. The bed was comfy I slept as if I were home so I will be coming back soon. The internet started acting up and was really slow at some point in time
- Kamille (8/5): It was a great and relaxing stay. - Scenic views; a nice, quiet get away. We saw a cockroach in the kitchenette.
- Dane (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (10/5): - Very nice, quiet resort. Property grounds were very well kept, rooms were nice, but starting to show a little wear and tear from being so close to the ocean.
- Donna (8/5): - Zavier was AMAZING!! Answered all questions and had excellent suggestions for dining etc. It is a very isolated area though with no bars/restaurants around and the roads to the other side of the island are sketchy to say the least If you’re looking for quiet with a beautiful view it’s a great place to stay If you’re looking for dining/nightlife options you should stay on the West Coast
- Carolyn (10/5): - Our stay was fabulous. Being on the north east party of the island was perfect. We had a car and could drive to great beaches and the wildlife reserve and flower forest. We went to Oistin's Friday Fish Fry and toured the cotton mill. And in the evenings, we could relax back at our room.
- Stephen (10/5): - I can't say enough good things about Hotel Santosha and the staff.
Everything was exactly as described. It was remote, rural and quiet. We sat on the front porch and heard the waves crashing. We could see the ocean from our room. It was open yet still private.
The grounds were so beautiful and simple with green monkeys in the back yard. We sat on the porch and had yogurt and fruit every morning.
The room was simple but fit every need. Easy to keep clean, simple but perfect amenities, spacious, open.
The staff was concerned when we said we had a car accident. Xavier and Monica called the rental car company for us when our calls wouldn't go through.
Our stay was absolutely delightful!
- David (6/5): A bit tired but great views & - Stunning location. Fantastic view from large balconies. Big rooms - plenty of space.
Always a cooling breeze , which was very welcome.
Nice pool , which was always pretty quiet , even when all the rooms were occupied.
Good value for money relative to many places on the island, but it is a bit tired. The rooms and furnishings are quite dated and could do with some upgrading.
The constant sea mist makes property maintenance a real headache on that side of the island and it shows. But it’s a good base to explore the east coast - you just need to set your expectations accordingly.
Limited options nearby for eating out.
- Giese (7/5): Santosha offered the bare minimum but was very pleasant - It was in a great location- but no restaurants nearby The room had very very little kitchen ware. Not even a sharp knife. The smaller coffee press ever and very small dish ware - the microwave had issues too
- Andreas (3/5): - - - The room on the ground floor was not so nice, not like the pictures are suggesting.
No view, many mosquitoes, almost no water was running out of shower. We claimed it, but the only comment from the staff was, that the water pressure should not be that low at this time of the day. He had a look himself and then he said he will check the pressure. We stayed there for three nights and took showers on different times it was always the same and almost impossilbe to get the shampoo out of the hair.
Cleanliness was ok, but the whole room needs a painting.
When you run the air conditioning there is dropping water on the ground floor.
And the worst part was, that we payed an amount in front and then they forgot about it and booked the full price for the room when we got there.
Positive: After we claimed it, they said sorry and send us the money back on the same day we wrote the email.
- Michael (8/5): If you are looking to avoid the busy tourist areas, this is the spot. - This is a small, quiet hotel on a somewhat secluded location. The hotel has a smart layout with all rooms having a great deck area overlooking the pool and awesome views. While the seclusion is a plus, services like groceries are not close by.
- Sarah Catherine (10/5): - Beautiful, peaceful, and an all around awesome property!
- Larry (10/5): - Quiet and clean getaway.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Peaceful - Extremely peaceful and beautiful location. Great place to unwind! Really enjoyed the sound of the waves and trees at night. If you have plans to visit the West Coast frequently, be aware that Santosha is further out, so be prepared to drive!
- Dulce (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and quiet place, amazing staff.
- Maksims (9/5): Nice place to enjoy the nature and relax after noisy parties. Great Atlantic Ocean view. - The authenticity of the building was charming. Our main goal was to relax after busy and noisy places, and we succeeded. The surrounding nature was beautiful. We were able to manage everything without a car, as the shop and restaurant were just a 15-20 minute walk away.
The view to the rain-forest and Atlantic Ocean and was truly outstanding. The apartment had a lot of space and really nice and big balcony. Everything needs a caring touch to restore lost excellence. It is not possible to swim at the nearby beach due to really big waves, but the Atlantic Ocean must be seen, and it is truly great.
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Marc-andre (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (9/5): An ideal place to get to know the east coast. - It’s setup, the terrain, the view, the location, our terrace where the always blowing wind became a welcome breeze well shielded from the sun. Not to forget it’s And also the perfect base from which to reach the many hikes on the east coast and high hills with tropical vegetation between the east coast and the west coast. A somewhat sparse kitchen outset.
- Elkin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennilyn (8/5): Very good -
- Bartosz (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (9/5): Great accommodation choice on east side of the island - Good location off a main road A mid-stay clean and change of towels would have been appreciated
- Caron (9/5): My stay was awesome but too short. I will definitely visit again. Loved it - I loved how peaceful and remote the location was. I would suggest long mirrors in the rooms. I would also suggest turning the little pool into a jacuzzi.
- Robert (5/5): Passable -
- Joanne (10/5): Loved this place and will definitely return . - Absolotely loved this place . Amazing room with fantastic views . Great pool and lovely guy who runs the place . Quite a remote place and you need a car and a lot of the local restaurants shut early . Great value for money Nothing
- Samantha (9/5): Peaceful November retreat - A lovely layout of accommodation and interior of room. Beautiful views, handy for all East Coast attractions and within a short drive to the nearest town on the west coast. The bed and pillows were oh so comfortable. The size of Santosha lends itself to a nice quiet getaway.
Loved that it was self catering too.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
- Toby (9/5): We had a great stay, we were well looked after by our very friendly host and loved the tranquility at Santosha. - Very peaceful Could have done with a few more kitchen utensils, ie. a bottle opener
- David (8/5): Very good - Was very peaceful and beautiful views. Self-catering but choices of restaurants in area if you don't want to cook. Host helpful in providing ideas for dinner. Nothing
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shakwon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaedon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Amazing Amazing Amazing - Amazing location … felt like staying at the hideaway of a “James Bond villain”!
The manager Xavier on hand all times and nothing too much trouble … perfect host!
Ground floor room perfect for the pool… everything needed for cooking a simple meal - double hob, microwave and fridge / freezer Very little to not like! Minor but on ground floor can hear movements upstairs with the all wood floors
- Ian (8/5): Lovely host and locations but in need of a bit of TLC. - The view from the room The room felt somewhat tired
- Beverley (8/5): Very good -
- Joy-ann (10/5): Book your stay!!! - The environment was very tranquil.
We were the only ones there, which was amazing
- Pedro (10/5): - A little remote but beautiful location, if you really want to be away from all the noise and fast pace of the main city, this is the place for you. Xavier was very attentive, responded fast to any request if I ever go back to Barbados, this will be the place to stay. Thank you.
- Gibson (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (9/5): Fabulous property in a fabulous location with lovely welcoming staff. Would highly recommend and hope to return. - Location. Had Top middle floor room with balcony with breathtaking view. Swimming pool surrounded by beautiful manicured gardens. Everything made in wood, the building, the fixtures and fittings, the decking and patio furniture. Sustainable and fits in with surroundings perfectly. Would have liked recycling bins. Room was missing knives and teaspoons.
Stayed 5 nights so thought bathroom would have been cleaned at least on third day and food waste bin in the kitchen emptied. Would have liked cushions on balcony furniture which were too hard to sit in to read and relax.
It was quiet so if it had been busy there would not have been enough sun beds and only have 2 currently. I would have liked the jacuzzi shown to me so I could be reassured that the water was safe and how to use it. In all 5 days no one used it. Pool was fabulous although tiles coming off but think this is going to be dealt with. Broken parasol was replaced near the end of our stay. Noise from our neighbours on the balcony could be an issue but the families left the morning after we arrived. I asked for extra towels and would have expected them to be brought to the room in the morning but was handed them in the evening. I think more information is needed. Where are the cushions for the sun beds kept? How to use the jacuzzi. What is the arrangement for getting fresh pool towels. When is house keeping going to be done and what is included. How to get Netflix on TV. This was never shown although promised on more than one occasion. These are all suggested areas of improvement for a hotel.
- Ivan (10/5): Beautiful! - Spectacular views, a pool to cool down, and very friendly service.
- Maia (5/5): All in all a decent place, can do with some improvements. - Great location, kind staff, perfect for a getaway. We stayed for 4 nights, and the pool was dirty the entire time, with brown stains at the bottom, no one cleaned it, floor boards by the pool were coming out, making it easy to trip and fall.
Our room only had one key, so we had to give the key to the maids for the day.
The stray cats would not let us eat in peace.
- Hinds (9/5): Superb -
- Ashrika (10/5): Nothing short of amazing! - 10/10 amazing! The views, the room and the hospitality. Highly recommend Because it’s on the east coast of the island, the roads tend to be lonely and got lost alot using Waze because roads would randomly be closed and had to take detours around to get to the property. Please use google maps but it’s worth it!
- Rudolph (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was fantastic. The location and atmosphere was to me of a different island. The nights with the wind was as we says here a good kite flying day . Mingling with other guests was great. Leaving !
Leaving !
And Leaving !
- Holcombe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Knight (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (7/5): Good -
- Ashby (10/5): Santosha escape - The absolute quiet and peace off the pace of the west or south coast.
A couple families were there but we all used the common areas at different times. I have to go home.
- Jan-yves (7/5): Good -
- Mark (8/5): Very good - A lovely quiet spot on the east coast, with a spectacular view from our top floor apartment. Ideally you need a car! Great for a short stay whilst exploring the top and east coast of the island. The manager was very helpful, great customer service! It has a rustic charm; peaceful and calming. A lovely spot, very different to the west coast and tourist areas Apartment was clean, but a little dated and tired in appearance. Pool area floor needs some attention too
- Simon (9/5): Great stay - The place was beautiful. We were the only ones there at the time, so we had the pool to ourselves. The room was great.
- John (10/5): - Exactly as desired, and for us, perfect, including the charming and helpful Xavier. Not for everyone, as it's a bit remote and calls for some gumption as to having one's own things sorted, but perfect for me, and also just what I expected.
