Guest Reviews
- Thijs (8/5): -
- Ruth (4/5): Disappointing - The bed was comfortable, albeit it was very high. It was very dated, the Venetian Blinds were filth.
No grab rain to get in and out of the shower.
Breakfast was shown as £9 each but we were told it was £15 each. When asked what time breakfast was served I couldn’t get a straight answer; so we just didn’t bother
There was loud music until after 23:00
There was no check out, and nobody about to ask, in the end we just used the fire exit; leaving feeling concertthat the Fire Brigade would turn up.
We will not stay there again.
- Davidgʻ (9/5): A pleasant enjoyable experience - Only problem, there was a problem with the breakfast. However problem resolved No reason for dislike, a nice venue for our purpose
A pleas
- Glen (10/5): - Just about everything, very nice friendly country hotel/pub, room was very clean, comfortable, quite,
Staff were the best, very helpful, nothing was to much trouble, As for the food, excellent, very well prepared, good choice,
Hats of to the chef,
I'm going back, it's on my preferred list, Nothing to report,

- Steven (8/5): Once night stay - Nice room and bed.
Good bath with shower over.
Friendly pub
Good beer, great menu
Buster farm nearby
- Phil (10/5): - Lovely, clean, comfortable room and really friendly, helpful staff.
- Nicola (8/5): A comfy stay in a nice village inn - It was warm and cosy, well equipped.
Nice & clean.
I slept well as beds nice & comfy with good quality bedding.
Nice hot shower in the morning.
Friendly staff !
This also was a good price for rooms. No breakfast facilities. We had to drive to find a cafe.
- Jonathan (7/5): lovely pub, good food (excluding breakfast) and staff very friendly - before i travelled it said on line that breakfast was £9. When i then asked i was told it was £15. There didnt seem to be a set time for breakfast or any sort of menu for breakfast so in the end i didnt bother room and bathroom dated and room facilities not great
- Kay (6/5): For £90 a night plus the cost of food I felt it wasn't value for money. - The staff were lovely and really kind. The food was also really good. Advertised as bed and breakfast but breakfast we were told was £15. Slamming doors outside our room late at night. The room wasn't checked during the 4 nights I stayed although they did ask if I needed anything.
- Richard (7/5): -
- Robert (3/5): Unsatisfactory. - The food was good but staff had little knowledge of pricing breakfast. Disco on Saturday night far too noisy. Room not cleaned very well, lots of cobwebs and general tardiness. Old furniture with loose doors and bottom missing from bedside drawer.
- Colin (7/5): Nice friendly place, lovely food at reasonable prices - did not have breakfast on either day other guests being tought on how to open and close doors using the door handles
- Lucy (8/5): -
- Alex (9/5): -
- Linda (10/5): - We were welcomed by friendly and professional staff. Lovely laid back atmosphere
- keith (6/5): -
- Marian (9/5): - Staff went above and beyond helpful.
- Patrick (10/5): - Facilities were great, nice apartment, comfortable living space.
Great addition was the slippers and the coffee ☕️ machine. The only thing was that it was 8 miles out from where we were working. It was quite expensive each day and evening.
- philip (8/5): Great staff, goodnight sleep and a great breakfast -

- Judy (7/5): Good - Very friendly & helpful young staff members.
Nice country pub atmosphere with a good pint.
Good pub grub
Very nice indeed. 👍 Rooms quite 'tired,' single beds very narrow.
However good price & clean so nothing not to like. Thanks all
- Bee (7/5): Lovely welcoming pub with great staff - The bar and restaurant staff were lovely. Food was excellent. The room was comfortable and well sized. Kirsten and the other girl in the bar were delightful. Breakfast was relatively expensive but the service was poor. No coffee/tea refills, toast only when asked for and then only one slice. No juice. No cereals. No fruit. It felt reluctant and we felt like we were a nuisance.
- Grant (8/5): Very good - Staff were really friendly and great food
- Angela (9/5): Enjoyable - Breakfast was excellent, the room was good and a good shower pressure Only the Wi-Fi not working Saturday evening, but not a huge deal as the tv was working and I was only stage one night, and bed was on the firm side
- Marian (9/5): Superb -
- Scott (7/5): Food great, nice place but could be so much more - Well situated with lovely food Upon arrival we checked in, had a drink and then had dinner (which was lovely) upon returning to our room we noted there was no towels and the tea making facilities were lacking/very poor.
When we mentioned this to the person running morning shift,he basically shrugged it off which I found very un professional.
We was going to book a room at a later date for an extended period due to having work to complete locally, but decided not too purely because of his response.
- Thomas (7/5): Good -
- Louise (8/5): Very good -
- Medwyn (2/5): Very poor -
- Ray (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katja (5/5): Such a great location, shame about the service - Location, very close to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park and Butser Hill
A number of great, safe walks starting from the inn! So so basic! Having stayed here a number of times over a few years I feel like the inn has cut down its services since I visited the first time.
The inn is located in a central junction in the village and unfortunately you can hear everything in the room. Definitely busier since a few years ago.
One towel per stay! Seems a bit stingy, not even given a hand towel.
Ran out of toilet paper..
Had a burger, which tasted more like pasta sauce ie. The chef added Italian herbs to it. Not the greatest of burgers, although the dog loved it..
I think my main issue with the inn is staff; first the chef approached me on the street asking me about the burger, and I had no idea who he was! Not sure if he was drunk or high.. it was very random
Secondly, the pub staff decided to have a lock-in on the Saturday night. We had listen to the noise until about 1.40am when the pub manager climbed up to his room and the staff left the premises. I'm surprised this hasn't been reported by the locals already. As a guest, I felt very disrespected.
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Activmojo (5/5): Passable - Friendly bar staff Not a lot
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dina (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (5/5): No frills but adequate for short stay - Proximity to my family. Nice and clean Very basic room
- Graham (6/5): Basic pub accommodation, nice village location. Spoilt by an unexpected 10 pounds 'pet' surcharge. - Staff friendly. Food to a good standard. Choice of beers good. Advertised as being 'Pet Friendly' but upon arrival they demanded an additional 10 pounds pet surcharge which came as a complete surprise and was not mentioned in any of the terms or conditions of the booking. First time this has ever happended to me in my travels. I really had no option but tp pay it, upsetting because it was not mentioned when booking.
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): Was great stop over the staff very friendly and helpful will certainly book again if in the area. - The main think of i noticed was beds are so comfy !! Nothing to speak of if im honest
- Kylie (9/5): Great place to stay. - Clean, comfortable, and the staff were absolutely brilliant. Food at the inn was also fabulous. No step free access to the rooms for mobility challenged customers- understandable given the size of the place, and it was noted in the description. Controls for the shower didn't operate as I expected - user error due to looking like a system I was used to back home in Oz, but not functioning the same.
- Janice (10/5): Great staff at the Rising Sun - Incredibly helpful staff who went above and beyond to help us. Lovely room. Great breakfast. Nothing at all.
- Mark (7/5): Good - The bed mattress was too soft
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Anne (5/5): Friendly but grimy - Staff were lovely The rooms are just an afterthought, not something the business really cares about. Pretty grimy - need a proper good deep clean. Including the swing door through from the pub which is absolutely disgusting. It’s the main door through to the kitchen too. It’s filthy. Also two rooms are above the beer garden and smoking area so they’re incredibly noisy until kicking out time. I know this is pretty standard for pub rooms, but I didn’t really enjoy the loud drunk guys whingeing about their partners and kids until the early hours. Shame about all of that because the young staff team were unfailingly lovely.
- Colleen (7/5): Good - The location is beautiful and very practical for where we want to be. The evening meal and drinks in the pub were nice. The room is adequate and clean. There are tea making facilities in the room. The room is a little dated, there was no shower gel or shampoo. You have to order your breakfast the evening before, which seems a little odd. Breakfast was ok, however the staff don’t seem very interested in the guests and prefer to chat amongst themselves. We may have been unfortunate, but there didn’t seem to be any staff on site at check out time and all doors were locked except for the fire exit. This accommodation could be much nicer with a little thought.
- Spain (7/5): Good - Excellent evening meal
- Mary (10/5): Enjoyed our stay during the ‘Euros’, the staff made us very welcome. - Great atmosphere, friendly welcoming family-run pub with rooms and very acceptable gastro food. N/a
- Andreas (8/5): Very good -
- Adrian (8/5): Very good - Nice little place with great food...basic room but that's all we wanted..will return Id like a cheaper drink but hey ho I spose that's the going rate down south..lovely place
- Geoffrey (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (3/5): Hotel good, getting out van broken into really bad - Had our van broken into. No security cameras. The management said it’s an issue that keeps happening. They even had had to fit alarms to their oil tanker. Would not recommend.
- Mark (8/5): Kerry and the team were Excellent! - Kerry and the team were excellent and did everything they could to make the stay and service top notch. Congratulations - really made me feel welcome.
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Malcolm (10/5): Great pub with rooms - Lovely village pub, great food and friendly staff who couldn’t have been more helpful.
- Stella (8/5): Very good -
- Toomas (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Happy to be home - Very welcoming, excellent and very polite bar Man, if you get the chance bye Alex a drink and we wish him all the success at university,
We will be back here again I'm sure 😁 The difficult access to up stairs,, but understandable has it's an village pub and lifts weren't around in the 1700 hundreds so Al is forgiven.
- Harriet (8/5): Very good -
- Joanne (10/5): Excellent place to stay while walking the South Downs Way - lovely food and friendly, helpful staff. - Friendly staff, great meal, excellent location while on multi-day South Downs Way hike. Nothing - all perfect
- Christopher (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (8/5): Good for cyclists - Bike friendly, we were able to store our cycles in secured area. Reasonable priced restaurant and food was good.
Ample parking available and shops nearby. Breakfast timings were a little restrictive but the food was excellent
- Henry (8/5): very happy with location - nice friendly pub , staff and locals very pleasant, did not eat here but looking at others food orders it looked very nice. wide range of lagers and ales a bit pricey but i am used to Wetherspoons in Newcastle upon tyne .room was clean and bed comfortable. large bathroom with large shower cubicle. pub inside and out could do with a little freshening up of paint works and window repairs / renewal. but i understand this is very costly so probably a little at a time. would still stay here again
- Carlos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (7/5): Great place if on a budget - Great location and nice bar below. Staff super nice and helpful. Chef hand delivered toast for my mum early in the morning which was over and above! Very affordable too. Room just a little too small - with twin beds, very little room for two people to move around.
- David (8/5): Very good - location was excellent. The staff are very helpful. Really nice place to be.
- Maria (9/5): Pleasant stay - Good comfortable staff pleasant and efficient clean good location
Free parking does what it says on blog good food A little tired in decoration
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Tim (10/5): The Rising Sun Inn - Comfortable. Convenient. Good location. Reasonable price. Easy to find. .
- Carol (3/5): Poor -
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional - The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, both in the evening and the morning. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, and we had a lovely night's sleep!
- Cobbles (6/5): Very pleasant - I was the only person staying the night before. Although I would of liked an earlier breakfast before departing, the owner asked if I could do 0900 as he has to travel to open up and get set up from a busy Valentines evening the night before. Mattress to soft for myself. couldn't open windows!
- Raymond (8/5): Perfect for what I needed. - Location was perfect to to stay near to my daughter after bringing her stuff from Lincolnshire to her new home in Waterlooville.I’m not a big breakfast person so I just had cornflakes and toast.
- Graham (1/5): Nice evening spent with friends but would not stay again. - Good food We booked a double room only to find our room had been given to a single person, so we were put in a twin room and had to push the beds together, of which were different heights and 1 uncomfortable mattress. We had to fight to get money off. No breakfast offered. Staff were very helpful and tried their hardest but had to phone the landlord whenever there was an issue as he never seemed to be in the pub. We would not stay there again.
- Emma (8/5): Very good - Fabulous - very comfy bed
- Tom (8/5): Very good -
- Gregory (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (6/5): A perfectly comfortable stay in location chosen for its convenience - Location was reason for booking. In same village as friend's house; I had come for a funeral. She had arranged a family dinner (in which I was included) that evening after the ceremony & reception. Very nice service from the young waiter. A toothmug/glass and a hook for robe in the bathroom would be nice. I couldn't make the over washbasin light work - but I failed to mention it, so my fault. I had to move the other bed to find the plugs for the bedside light (not switched on) and to plug in my phone to charge near the bed. I think ironed bedding would give a better impression, likewise a shade over the bare lightbulb in the passage/stairs leading to the rooms. These are observations (from someone who ran a holiday cottage) rather than criticisms.
- Fisher (5/5): B&B stay with good breakfast - Lovely building & location. The boiler had broken & no hot water, unless black was in it so no shower. Did get drinks off the bill at breakfast which was nice, but didn’t clear plates until asked. Could have been a bit more hospitality considering the water issue.
- Hamish (5/5): Passable -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Stella (8/5): Tranquil location, warm welcome. - Quiet and convenient stay, parking included. Staff gave us warm welcome. We arrived too late to order pub food and breakfast wasn't an option morning after but staff directed us to a great take away across the road for dinner and found a cosy and relaxed cafe for breakfast.
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (7/5): Good - Location, large carpark, Quilt too big for bed therefore uncomfortable. No independent heating in room.
- Biden (4/5): Disappointing - Staff in the pub downstairs were very friendly and professional. We also ate dinner there which was very good. It was a very uncomfortable old spring bed. There were cobwebs around the room, but it otherwise seemed clean. There was no hairdryer. Security was a bit lapse as the fire exit door, which we used to get out of the building in the morning, seemed to not be locked, as we were able to just push it open, even though we tried to close it.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent staff, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Food was also 1st class. Great location for walking the south downs way Could do with upgrading the mattresses in the rooms
- Alan (8/5): Very good - Good location and excellent breakfast at a reasonable price
- Zhengyu (10/5): Exceptional -
