Guest Reviews
- Sean (10/5): - Jason makes your stay very friendly and comfortable with all the cooking facilities that you ever need, very pleased with my stay
- Leanne (2/5): - Very limited supply in kitchen
- Irene (10/5): - The property is tired and outdated but the space and 90 degree balcony with view is clean and spacious. It has all the amenities you need. Good if you have teens who want their own space. Great base if you’re out and about all day or taking tours to come back to apartment style living, pool is fantastic and the highlight. Locals can be loud at night but felt safe and totally secure on the 16th floor.
- Carolyn (6/5): - The unit was very roomy and in an ideal area, close for us to walk to a lot of places.
The apartment is very dated but clean. The kitchen could have had a few more supplies included. We did ask the manager if he could supply a few things which he did promptly.
The noise level from residents across the road was very loud most nights. The noise was ongoing all night on a lot of nights and this alone is why we would not stay at Marrakai again.
Unfortunate because there are a lot of positives with the apartment, even though a good update of the unit would be great to!
- Kate (8/5): - Great place, outdated but still extremely comfortable. Only problems were ants everywhere, despite ensuring we cleaned up after ourselves, the stovetop fan was broken and didn't work. Also, lack of cooking utensils and tea towels. For the price though, it was great and got the job done! Air con was fantastic and would probably stay again.
- Sean (10/5): - Very nice place to stay in with everything to your needs not far away, Great facilities and service
- Sean (10/5): - Excellent service and accommodation and facilities
- Paul (6/5): - Property was in a great convenient location, amazing views, unit was tired and outdated, broken furniture, dirty dishes from previous occupants, not a real friendly duty manager, seemed an effort for him to say hello let alone be helpful with anything
- Parveen (8/5): - It’s quite lovable place to spend excursion. Would love to spend more quality time there. Pool at property is really gem of the accommodation at heart of city
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic Family Staycation - Great value, close to everything in Darwin city and very family friendly. Would stay again.
- Joanne (8/5): - The property is not right in the town centre so there are not many restaurants or shops, though you can easily walk to these if it's not too hot. The apartment was very comfortable and we had fantastic views from the top floor. There was quite a lot of traffic noise, however, and the apartment was very old and really needs a refurb and new furniture. The old dishwasher broke down during our stay and a shower head needed replacing. It was very clean, though, and the beds were really comfortable, with lovely, good quality linen. Overall, I would definitely stay again as it was good value for money, comfortable, and the manager, Jason, was very attentive.
- Chris (10/5): - For an older building this accommodation is still fabulous.
Great views, central to everything and secure underground parking.
The pool is refreshing and accessible.
- Kieran (8/5): - Very comfortable and very central. We would book again.
- Shengnan (8/5): - Large living area
- Darren (10/5): - Great place nice and relaxing easy access to everything and the staff was great and easy to talk to and very helpful will definitely be back
- Verified traveler (10/5): Stunning views, close to everything. - What a great apartment. It's pretty dated, but clean and comfortable, spacious 2 bdr apartment with awesome views and everything you need for your home away from home. So close to everything and convenient, with secure underground parking and nice big swimming pool. We'll definitely visit again.
- Mark (10/5): - Clean
- Adrien (10/5): - The communication is great!
Yes some stuff are a bit old but honnestly there is everything you need for a good price in Darwin.
- Joshua (10/5): - Great views , all round nice building. Spacious and nice
- Kate (10/5): - The staff at the Marrakai were wonderful - friendly and extremely helpful. The room, while older, was clean and spacious. Woolworths and Mall are within walking distance, as is the Waterfront and wharf (although it was extremely hot in the middle of the day). We also had an amazing view!
- Kerri (10/5): - Spacious 2 bedroom apartment
- Pooja (10/5): - We went to Darwin for a short break and found this amazing apartment to stay in. Marrakai is situated in the city of Darwin, walking distance to most the necessities. Jason (property manager) looked after us and was very accomodating throughoit our stay.
- Toni-Marie (10/5): - Highly recommend, and will definitely be staying here when I go back to Darwin
- Zoe (6/5): - Convenience to city centre and within walking distance to most of what we wanted to do.
- Melanie (8/5): - Spacious and well laid out apartments. Well located in city. Pool was in very good condition.
- Anthony (10/5): - The owner was great to communicate with, in a great location close to everything, overall great experience
- Hilda (2/5): - Air conditioning was not working (or barely) - reported on the first day, advised someone would look at it on Monday. Nothing happened. Advised someone would look at it on Tuesday while we were out - nothing happened.
Ceiling fans only worked on "flat out" or off - this didn't help the situation at all.
Would not recommend at all.
- Natalie (6/5): - Property was very run down. Very dirty cupboard fronts and inside cupboards in kitchenand bathroom, cobwebs in lounge. Bed not very comfortable
- Nino (6/5): - standard inner city apartment really. regular residents were rude which can be understandable when apartments in their block are on Air B&B or rented out to holiday makers.
the apartment was very secure. what i didn't like was - kitchen floors were sticky and unclean, the kitchen draws and cupboards were not functional. they had magnetic push lock and open functions which did not work. The apartment had a few cockroaches - i would have expected regular insect treatments, lamps in the living room were broken - not able to be used due to missing and broken electrical chords. front desk service was great checking in however it was absent and did not respond to phone calls when checking out.
- Peter (4/5): - For the cost, the apartment was very outdated and old and not worth the price. Air-conditioner kept faulting, rubbish under beds, toilet continually running, balcony banister was loose, which is very dangerous on the 11th floor. TV - not a smart TV, remote hardly worked, fans very loud and seem ready to fall off the ceiling. Pool was nice and kept well cleaned. I would not stay there again.
- Nicola (6/5): - On the plus side it is a lovely bright and spacious apartment. On the down side it was too unpleasant to sit on the balcony outside due to the noisy aircon unit, the furniture and decor was very outdate and there was way too much junk in all the cupboards and drawers, particularly in the kitchen.
- Jo (8/5): - The room was extremely dated and in need of some love, faulty towers vibes but it had everything needed for a comfortable stay and the staff were lovely and location good
- William (10/5): - Very comfortable and spacious unit close to everything. Secure on site parking. Large pool area. Stocked kitchen and washer and dryer.
- Kerin (4/5): - No hot water in the showers, ceiling fan in lounge not working, ridiculous timing on air conditioning that cycled on and off every 3 hrs. Not ideal this time of year and left the unit stifling. Balcony access doors would barely slide open and didn’t seal when you tried to close them. Murder scene across the road 60 mts away, drunken itinerant’s wandering around and in premises making it impossible to walk anywhere after dark. Not for me in the future thanks .
- Joshua (10/5): - Will defiantly stay again good affordable price lovley people who work there
- David (4/5): - Spacious, balcony, kitchen (had it been in any way modern)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect stay for our family. Loved the views from our room. Definitely would stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Jason was easy to communicate with very welcoming approach! Unit was very spacious. One of the rooms had a double bed and single bed.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This property was very outdated and certainly not worth the money we paid. The air conditioner didnt work properly and decore was 80's throw back. no free wifi and the lifts felt like they were going to break and let go. The room was not cleaned once in the 6 days we were there.
It was directly across road from indigenous community housing and not safe to walk around at night alone.
If i could get some money back i would.
- Troy R (10/5): Older style with great character and great view - The manager obliged to a very early check in. Our top floor apartment had amazing views of both the Darwin harbour inlet and east point. Older style decor and furnishings gave the unit great character. Very comfortable for a 3 night stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Spacious good for family - Spacious and clean. Furnitures need to get replace as they're old and worn out. Beds are big and ok but feels old. We really like that it's so spacious for family but furnitures needs to go.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A brilliant place to stay. - A great stay. The apartment had everything that we needed.
The view was stunning.
- DW (8/5): - The property is quite dated. Although we were reasonably comfortable we reported lots of defects with our apartment that needed attention. The location is great and the apartment was spacious.
- Meloney (10/5): Thank you -
Enjoyable, relaxed and very comfy stay. Free secured parking, spacious apartment with all amenities washer and drier. would book this again.
- Andrew (10/5): - Was a wonderful stay. Our grandkids loved the apartment as did us both.
- Eddie (10/5): - Perfect for us. 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Pool. handy location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great value. Not a new property but large and great for a family
- Arnold (10/5): - Excellent apartments, plenty of room and value for money.
- Louise (6/5): - it was close to the cbd but the property is a little run done the manager there done his best to help out with things. we were moved as the first room was terrible no dish washer ac not working proberly then the next room dryer did not work
- Verified traveler (6/5): - very friendly and accommodating reception during checkin. Facility looked nothing like this photo, the apartment needs renovations, smelt musty aircon duct needing repair and mouldy. The facility furniture was old.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The views were amazing.
We were on the 16th floor overlooking the ocean and also the city
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property need op dating . filthy stain op carpet. Find rust on cutlery
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and comfortable place to stay. Spacious facilities and was able to relax and cook like at home.
Mostly clean, though the shower in the master ensuite needed a bit more cleaning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Position was excellent. Parking was great. Some parts of the building need painting and upgrading.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff. Great place for a holiday. I would stay there again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Like being up on the 8th floor
The unit is old and is due for updating
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property had great staff - very accommodating.
Safe and secure parking.
The unit we were in was quite run down and needs some basic maintenance to make it a more pleasing stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - it was well situated in the city for our purposes. suitable size and number of beds to suit our family
pricing was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean. Spacious. Good communication. Convenient.
- ANIL (4/5): Good location but need renovation. - Good location but need renovation. Bathroom door was falling & I even saw a cockroach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great views! Comfortable beds! Location! Reasonably priced for a two bedroom and two bathroom apartment. We will definately stay here again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good location and secure, but the apartment is showing it’s age + the apartment wasn’t serviced during our week long stay. Not safe for families as locks on 11th floor balcony doors didn’t work reliably (scary with kids)...
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Some lights and power points didn't work, maintenance average. Only basic kitchen amenities (no ice bricks, water caraf, coffee machine etc) Quite comfortable, great views and good location (aside from the neighbours).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The position was central to the city, not too far from most things
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very spacious! Excellent location and amazing views
- Verified traveler (8/5): - location. spacious. Pleasant communication. close to walk into town and buses. not noisy. safe.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely comfortable apartment. Convienient location.
- Robyn (10/5): - The apartment was very comfortable and well resourced. Would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was nice a quiet and clean. The only thing bad thing i can say is the building itself needs a little reno. Other than that all good :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a two bedroom apartment. It was very roomy. Everything was there and it was walking distance from the mall and places to eat. The waterfront was close. We were there for the Arafura Games it was a great experience
- CIndy Z. (2/5): Very run down, safety risks eg,balcony/electrical outlets, housekeeping issues, beautiful views. - Apartment was very roomy and had beautiful views. Many housekeeping issues, mould on aircon vents and walls, old broken glass in kitchen, fridge smelling rotten, aircon filters filthy, blankets in rooms havent been cleaned for sometime. Furniture needs update. Safety issues, balcony broken and only held by makeshift pipe (pulled out), chairs fixed with zip ties, balcony door did not lock, broken glass in kitchen, pills found under the bed by grandkids. DVD had missing cord. Manager no care attitude. Pool not very clean. We were aware that the apartment was dated but we expected it to be clean, everything in working order and safe for the amount of money we paid for 14 days (non-refundable) we would have checked out next day , on our next family visit to Darwin will not be staying at Marrakai Apartments,
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Nice big apartments but dated. Had been cleaned but needs a serious makeover. Power points hanging out of the wall wasn’t great with a toddler. Bath was filthy. Definitely not a 4 star property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great Property close to CBD with a touch of sophistication - Great Views
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really spacious apartment in great location. The balcony was big with awesome views.
- Richard (2/5): Never again - Nothing like the pictures. Roof leaked told on call manger was told it was the upstair hot water system. No one ever looked at it continued over the 3 days. Cups and plates dirty. Lounge was old and uncomfortable. DvD player didnt work. Power point hanging out of the wall. Overall very poor
- Scott (4/5): - Unit was nothing like the photos on the website. Old and run down. Unit 22
- kim (8/5): loved Darwin - the location was within walking distance of many places to eat as well as supermarket. easy 20 mins walk to the waterfront. lots of room for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. the view was good , we were on the 8th floor. great for self catering with BBQ area near pool. 2 car rental places within 100 metres.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - These are large units 100sq mtr so very good. 2 bathroom handy, good laundry. Friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I loved the ocean views and that the apartment had everything i needed for a great stay. Loved the washing machine and dryer especially.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly staff, clean and open planned living, central in town. Would stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The man at the front desk was so accommodating to us.
- Carlos (6/5): - For the money i pay the place was not bad.But this place is not 4 and stars as they advertise.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Where do I start!!! TERRIBLE, worst apartment we have ever stayed in by far. Apartment 21
Arrived to find no power on, found turned off at circuit board. Fridge was obviously hot with an absolutely putrid smell which went through the apartment and could not keep our cold food and drinks cold for first couple of hours.
Freezer full of mould and unable to use.
Carpets stained and dirty, toilet dirty, furniture dated and weary.
Hot water tripping at circuit board and had a cold shower in the morning.
No blanket or bed spread on the beds, two sheets only.
Generally dirty apartment and very run down.
No Austar or DVD as advertised on their own website.
Massively in need of maintenance in all areas.
Spoke to management as soon arriving to our room, again that night and a third time when checking out.
Requested to be moved to another room, but advised they were complete booked. Although he stated the power had been turned off because they were very quiet!
Manager Jason not at all interested, showed him my photos for evidence of poor condition and his response was “I’ll speak to the cleaner”
Never again ZERO stars for this one.
- Anna Mae (10/5): - The room was amazing, very friendly staff or owner. Thank you and looking to future stay.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The manager didn't care and it was really hot an horrible - we went to the Zen and forfeited 2 nights already paid - he said there was no refund
- Marcia (10/5): Lovely apartment views - Great pool and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again. Kid friendly!
- Brett (10/5): - Location , parking , great size rooms everything that we needed
- Chander (10/5): - Amazing views! Good spacious apartments! Nice pool! Nothing was a problem for the property manager Jason!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room we had was poor on maintenance the air conditioning was way below standard.
- Grant (10/5): - No complaints
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Rooms were a little out dated no free wi fi. Actual apartment was good size
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to town very central - Very spacious great views close to water front and eateries
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to to CBD and foreshore; excellent location with free parking. Large spacious apartments with 24hr check in/ check out desk. Excellent stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great apartment. Close to town, lean tidy and very friendly staff
- Rosie (8/5): Great apartment for four people - Nice apartment, good location easy walk to the centre of town. Just a bit dated in the décor otherwise comfortable.
- Mike (10/5): - Great room, 1 lift not working, great views,
Very happy we chose this place!
- Angela (6/5): run down but spacious - Felt it was pricey for the condition of the apartment (Although can appreciate that Darwin weather isn't too kind to buildings). Very spacious for a family of 4. Very limited kitchen items. Pool was nice, as was the use of noodles. good location. On our early morning arrival the key wasn't in the lock box but very quickly sorted out by the kind man (sorry can't recall your name). He was also very understanding when we accidentally chipped a coffee cup.
- Amanda (2/5): Nothing Luxury about this apartment!!!
- We arrived around 11 pm & were greeted by the manager who showed us to our room. We were given Rm 61 which was apparently the 'Penthouse Suite". I asked if this was the only room available and was told that "I thought you would like the best view'. The room smelled terrible, had broken cupboards, filthy kitchen, cockroaches & baits everywhere. The furniture was 30-40 years old including the kitchen & bathrooms. Stove top & cooker were disgusting & looked as though they hadnt had a clean in years. At 11.30 I rang to change rooms & got nightswitch who said that I would need to speak to someone in the morning. At 8.30am (the opening time on their reception office) I went to Reception desk & waited for 10 minutes before calling Expedia as I wanted an immediate refund or I would be cancelling the transaction with my bank as we were paying a significant amount for a hovel. Shiva from Expedia was very good and put me on hold to try & contact the Reception area which he was unsuccesful. He asked if I could wait for 2 hours & he would call me back after being in contact with the hotel. I agreed. At 8.55 we finally contacted Reception. I told them we were checking out and would be seeking a refund by cancelling payment. As a last chance I asked what else he had available & was given the choice of Rm 50 or Rm 31 but only 50 was clean. Though both rooms were marginally better than Rm 61 we went with rm 50 as it was relatively clean & we were reluctant to spend any more money. See pics.
- Graeme (4/5): Poor - Couches were really uncomfortable and need to be replaced. Kitchen and bathrooms old and shabby and not reflective of what was indicated on advertising material. Air conditioner was beyond useless. Overall cleanliness was a bit lack lustre. The kitchen utensils were old an grotty as was the mismatched cutlery. The dryer did not work. Light bulbs need replacing
- Louise (8/5): stay all ok - The apartment was clean if a little dated the beds were a little uncomfortable just getting older I guess. There are no supplies ie salt pepper etc so remember to bring your own. Washer and Dryer not working correctly so have to keep an eye on them if you choose to use them. Building is central to town so easy to get around pool is nice too
