- iandF1123VU (8/5): Enjoyed a relaxing break but the restaurant dinner service let it down. - We booked for a relaxing night away and the hotel room was large, very clean and comfortable and with a fantastic shower.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome.
Nice swimming pool and outside area, but oh dear, the restaurant service was an utter disaster. The long long wait for service was explained as being caused by the kitchen only having one member of staff on duty as Mondays are usually quiet 🤫. When it arrived, the food was good quality but as a dinner experience it failed badly. The waiting staff were in a difficult position but remained polite throughout.
That apart, we would stay again but not dine. As others have said, the breakfast offering was very good.
- P107DXjohnc (6/5): Bed and breakfast NOT half board - 12 golfers ,some had been before.
PROs. Rooms large and well equipped, everything you would need and expect. All communal areas immaculate and room cleaners do a superb job. Staff very helpful although the breakfast staff could maybe manage a smile , it goes a long way. Alex in the outside bar/ restaurant was extremely helpful, despite being rushed off her feet in the afternoons.
Golf course in good condition and also handy in relation to the hotel. Course was well marshalled with 18 holes taking around the four mark - excellent.Breakfast was good with the usual hot and cold options.
CONS. Do not stay half board. Evening meal extremely disappointing. Gave it two nights to give it a chance but food was average at best. House wine was changed as it had “ ran out” on both nights- very strange. Ate in Ayamonte for the other five nights despite paying for half board accommodation. Some big drinkers in our party , but again on numerous occasions the bar “ran out” of spiced rum and Baileys - unforgivable in a hotel bar.The hot breakfast did not go down well with our group with the sausage and bacon described as below average.
- juleshoffelt (2/5): Hotel correct, food catastrophic 😆 - Golf curse for 1 Week (private, nothing to do with the Hotel
Hotel correct..
Food verry poor We did not like ad all
Wine cart =catastrophe , Poor choise and most wines sold out
We will certainly not return!!!
So poor food I did not see in any hotel of this category for Years
It is e shame
- María Teresa (10/5): Para repetir - Un lugar muy tranquilo a plena naturaleza
- ChristineR790 (8/5): Don’t go half board go room only food is not 4* but hotel is - Rooms are spacious and staff very nice we went half board that was a mistake the food was awful
The breakfast was cold and not very inviting same in the evening meat balls one night and cheese board for starters!!!
Will return to this hotel if in the area but will go room only
- H3475VGiana (10/5): A hidden gem - Just back from a fantastic week at Isla Canela Golf Hotel, here follows our review.
We were 3 single figure handicap and a 21 handicap golfers from Glasgow area, first time at 4* Isla Canela Hotel and Golf for 6 rounds of golf in late Sept / early October.
We booked through Golfbreaks (service from Joey was once again excellent), and would most certainly return to this hotel and the golf courses. Third time to this area of Spain in the last year (previously El Rompido and Islantilla).
We had great flights with Ryanair from Prestwick to Faro, all on time. Private minibus transfer from Faro Airport to Isla Canela with Bravo Tur (arranged by Golfbreaks) was just 50 mins along the motorway from Portugal into Spain.
Key points were :
Staff at hotel and two clubhouses were friendly and attentive at all times.
Hotel far better than we had expected, rooms modern and clean, and very quiet.
We were on half board, breakfast buffet spot on, it was a set 4 course dinner at night, we'd have preferred a buffet, but could not fault the quality. Restaurant Manager very helpful if you wanted something different which was a nice touch.
A pint of Cruzcampo beer was 4.80 euros throughout the hotel and clubhouses.
We played the Old Course (300 yards from the Hotel) 3 times and the Links Course (a 10-15 min free of charge mini bus ride away from the hotel), also 3 times.
Two very different type of coures, and a pleasure to play both.
Both courses in excellent condition, the greens at both were amazing.
Buggies were 40 euros each but they had a discount deal of 30 euros per buggy if you booked and prepaid for 10 buggies (which savus us 100 euros), which we did on our first day.
No juice buggies on either course, so take plenty of water - it was roasting !
On our last night we went in to the local town of Ayamonte - 10 euro each way in a taxi - place was buzzing - plenty of bars & restuarants all close to the harbour. We found a chinese restuarant and it was excellent. Bars were selling pints of Cruzcampo for 4.00 euros. We should have gone into town more often !
No issues or complaints at all on our golf week, it was excellent, will definately return.
- Steeve (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stay! Comfortable and clean apartment equipped with everything needed for a pleasant time. The apartment has a lovely terrace with a stunning view of the golf clubhouse. Check-in and check-out are perfectly handled by the lovely Carmen. I recommend this apartment. all clear
- mdhulse (10/5): Perfect - This is a fantastic resort, the rooms were great and the staff could not do enough for us. There were 20 of us and no one could fault our stay. Played both courses a total of 5 times( 3 old and 2 links) over 7 days, some of the views are glorious. Take a walk into Ayamonte you will not be disappointed. It’s a bustling harbour town with great tapas. Would definitely recommend.
- Valerie (1/5): Very disappointed - Beds comfy Dials on cooker stuck on with sellotape
Plug in sink doesn’t fit, no drainer, makes washing up difficult.
All cupboards filled with nonsense, nowhere to put own shopping.
No kettle , one in cupboard but blows fuse when used
Kitchen light fitting hanging off.
Flattened flies and mosquito blood on bedroom walls not cleaned off.
Bed very noisy when you move
Had to buy a screwdriver to fix shower head attachment
Broken toilet seat in second bathroom
Had to buy air fresheners to mask the smell of drains
Not given access to underground carpark so had to park next to overgrown land. Get nettled getting in and out of car.
View over overgrown land and bins, which get emptied nearly every night in the middle of the night. Very noisy.
Yes it’s cheap. Get what you pay for.
Shady owner!!
- Gary (10/5): Great place for a weeks golf - Great apartment. Everything you need for a week. Wifi was decent and location was perfect.
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- P107DXjohnc (8/5): Quality hotel and golf course - Stayed on the complex last year, but in the apartments.Slightly disappointed with the rooms , although perfectly functional they were a bit old fashioned and a fairly long walk with clubs to the first tee. In fact two of our party decided to ring a cab to get from the apartments to the pro shop!! Although more expensive we decided to book the hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Hotel rooms far superior , with modern furnishings, tea and coffee making facilities and super comfortable bed. Breakfast, as seems now standard in “golf “hotels, was extensive and excellent. The golf course was in super condition and although quite long and testing was playable for all standards of golfer. Hotel was very quiet for our visit ( pre season before Easter) but we found the staff very helpful and the room cleaners made an immaculate job. Hotel is a cab ride away from the town which we found a bit of a let down , however it was early season. Keen golfers, quiet couples break would all be well catered for in this hotel. Many other golf courses virtually on the doorstep.Booked through golf breaks at a great price. Highly recommended for some early season sunshine on a challenging golf course.
Buena limpieza. Personal amable. Piscina pequeña, pero poco frecuentada. No dispone de socorrista. Buenas medidas antiCOVID en bufett de desayuno. En general todo muy bien
- KAM ONN (8/5): Isla Canela - Golf course condition was good although it has been raining. Room was comfortable. Breakfast spread ok, restaurant food and price acceptable. Service by Restaurant staff was excellent
- Daniel (10/5): - Bien ubicado y excelente servicio.
- 268martinas (10/5): Great hotel - Stayed here for 10 nights as thought location ideal between town and beach. We walked into Ayamonte in evening ,40 mins and taxi back only €7. 15 mins by bike to beach . Hotel lovely , really quiet , lovely comfortable pool beds . V clean , staff v friendly . Breakfast great and nice golf club . Just be sure to use lots of mossie spray from day 1. Highly recommend and will be back !
- cesar (10/5): Vacaciones muy agradables - Todo muy bien.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All good .............,.,.,..,.,.,..,,..,.,.,.,.,..,.,.,.
- smiffysmith (6/5): Lovely Hotel but bad food - The hotel itself was lovely with friendly reception staff & bar staff. Lovely surroundings & peaceful. Food was awful in the restaurant - fish was not cooked & pork was very chewy. Such a shame as it let the rest of the stay down. Definitely needs attention on the food side. Also no milk provided in room for coffee you have to purchase this outside the hotel or at the bar!!!!!
- conor59 (10/5): Great Experience - Excellent and quick check in. Special mention to Christina. Very friendly, informative and helpful during our stay. Rooms are spacious with very good facilities. Breakfast very good, buffet style. The outside terrace area beside the pool is wonderful and perfect for lunch with both shaded and sunny areas. The lunch was excellent with good choices on the menu.
The golf course is flat so a buggy is not necessary. It was in very good condition with excellent greens. It is not too long, however it is challenging with the greens well protected on most holes.
We played three rounds over two days and never got bored as the layout is superb.
If you a looking for a great course, friendly staff and nice hotel then I recommend this wonderful facility
- Hughesdorothy (10/5): 8 girls from the Wirral - We all had a wonderful golf holiday,, the hotel ,,food,, staff,, surroundings,,golf course,,was excellent,, our weather was a big factor sunny and warm everyday,,with a very good lunch after our game..
This hotel is on our agenda for all of us again next March..Thank you
- suffolktraveller27 (8/5): Nice small cosy hotel for winter - Stayed on a 5 day golf break last week. Nice rooms, friendly efficient staff. But have to say food needs attention. Charming ambient restaurant at night, but on 3 evenings the hot dishes from the buffet were just put out for long periods,no bain marie or means of keeping hot. Hot brekfast dishes like eggs bacon attempted to keep hot but eggs cold most days. The wines and beers were a very reasonable price and good quality, and the lunchs were good at extra cost. Past guests advised us that food has been very good before, but sadly the food on our visit here would not encourage us to stay again. I would b pleased to message any of the restaurant management team privately if that would be constructive.Otherwise golf course and hotel excellent.
- Ben (8/5): - Good hotel
- Barbara (10/5): Perfect room in a stunning setting. - A beautiful hotel with fantastic facilities. My room overlooked the golf course, as I imagine most do and I found that a relaxing addition to my stay. The bedroom was large and spacious and the bathroom was beyond expectations with a full sized bath as well as a wet room. I will definitely return.
- Stefan (8/5): Sehr gutes Preis / Leistungsverhältnis - Ruhig Gegend
Freudliches Personal
Gracias,
- catherine (6/5): - Problem with check in and room. Changed rooms 3 times! Shabby hotel in need of an update and maintenance.Food was poor.
- paul (6/5): nice economic place - Lovely place in need of a little tlc but good, strange that the restaurant was only for half board stayers as menu was average otherwise
- cesar (10/5): Fenomenal - Estupenda estancia.
- Luis (8/5): Amazing hotel that seems to be reducing costs.. - This hotel is amazing in terms of facilities/rooms. It is located far from crowed areas, so it is a great place to rest. Nevertheless, I believe this hotel is amazing for people that like to play golf. If your plan is just beach, I'm not sure if this hotel is the best option for you, since the beach is a bit far (and you always need a car). It always depends on the price...
Some additional comments:
- The swimming pool is small, although since the hotel doesn't have so many rooms, it doesn't affect so much. What I didn't like is that the swimming pool zone is covered with some small things that fall from the trees that hurt in the feet... They need to start cleaning the area more often..
- the food is regular (and I'm being friendly..). It is a failure attempt of serving gourmet food. Not buffet as in another hotels nearby.. additionally, the cutlery is different if you have half board (worse)... They switched the cutlery in front of me, because I was in a different table.. ridiculous..
- Doesn't have night entertainment and if you want to do something during the night you need to go to some place else. I also recommend creating some gardens that people can walk during the night.
- Breakfast is great. I would just include natural orange juice and better croissants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent comfortable golf hotel - Nice and comfortable rooms. Quit little terasse. Good bathroom and bed.
- Maureen (10/5): - Lovely Spain style hotel, great position on golf course but close to town centre and beach. Very comfortable room, large bed, lots of hot water. Menu not very varied but could be time of year, bar food very good
- GIOVANNI (10/5): No Wi-Fi - Bellissima location.
- Michael (8/5): Good hotel in pleasant surroundings - Very pleasant hotel thats good for golfers. Overall good value for money. Just a pity Spanish hotels do not leave tea and coffee facilities in their rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): Golf Club Hotel, easy to find, staff great - Weekend stay for the Ayamonte Half Marathon. Room was a little cold - the aircon didn't have much air heat! Quickly resolved with a extra couple of blankets.
- Luis (8/5): Agradable y tranquilo - Muy agradable. Servicio estupendo.
- The doc (10/5): Great hotel, will visit again - The Hotel Isla Canela was a real surprise. It was great and well priced. The rooms are really comfortable and are a decent size. The facilities are good with a swimming pool and a golf course. Staff very nice and welcoming. Really thought it was a great hotel and I will be staying there next time I am in the area.
- Linda (6/5): Nice clean hotel, pool far too small - Hotel was nice enough, quite simple, and if we'd been there for a golf weekend we would probably have liked it more. But as aren't golfers; we do like to swim so we were really disappointed with the size of the pool. It's about 10 metres long (and 6 metres wide (c40 x 19 feet) but it looks significantly bigger in the photos. I do wish that hotels advertised as with pools were required to state the size!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Staff very helpful and friendly. Reduced golf rate - All of the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel guests benefit from reduced green fees for Isla Canela Golf course €30 and the hotel has clubs for hire, or older clubs they will lend out free. The hotel is about 10 minutes out of Ayamonte. 6 euro by taxi and similar distance from the beach in the other direction.
- JJ (10/5): Great Hotel and Staff - Perfectly located for the Ayamonte Medio Marathon
- Phil (10/5): Comfy beds, great service, beautiful location - We had a fantastic three day stay at the hotel. The staff were all very professional and attentive, the beds were extremely comfy and the location was very relaxing and tranquil. We are already planning our next stay!
Seguramente, repetiremos.
- Oscar (10/5): Excelente trato, localizacion, comida pension - Muy buena estancia.
