- Sophia (10/5): - Beautiful hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room. Will come again.
- Keith (10/5): - Interesting old property
- Wayne (10/5): - The Angel Hotel was the perfect place for our short stay in Abergavenny. It’s location was perfect for walking to the castle and to many local shops and restaurants. We also had our breakfast there and it was superb.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Centrally located in town. The hotel was very pretty with several indoor and outdoor tables for dining, having a drink or just relaxing. Would recommend highly. Please be aware that although Expedia states there is free parking, parking is limited and if the car park is full you will need to park in the long stay parking across the street. Alternatively, you can reserve parking prior to your stay for 14 pounds/day.
- Bertie (10/5): - Our only criticism would be that our room (a superior-room No 5) was very small and the bathroom (shower only) was too too small. In all, it felt claustrophobic and we were on the street side so a fair amount of traffic noise. Apart from the above a beautiful hotel/location with very friendly staff.
- Robin (10/5): Fantastic all round - wonderful hotel. Extremely comfortable with GREAT food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bit expensive but nice, clear easy to get to and welcoming
- Kvv (10/5): Wedding in Wales - Stayed at the Angel Hotel for a wedding and had a great time in every way.
- Laurence (10/5): Charming location and great staff - The attention to detail in all aspects of the hotel were exemplary. Staff were very attentive, thoughtful and charming. The room quality was excellent in all respects. Breakfast was particularly noteworthy with great choice and quality. If this hotel were in London, you could triple the rate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice Hotel
- Thea (10/5): - Lovely hotel great position in the middle of town. Staff.very nice and friendly will definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good, but room for some improvement - Room a little stuffy, but immaculately clean and otherwise comfortable. Restaurant can be variable - food is of good quality but cooking not always up to expectations. This time, venison was seriously undercooked.
- Sean (10/5): Weekend break - Outstanding food and service would definitely recommend it
- Dave (6/5): Best hotel in town, but not international 4* - To be fair, The Angle is an acceptable clean accommodation of probably a 3* rating.
The reception are friendly but not highly customer orientated as in Dubai and other international destinations.
UK hotels including Marriott Heathrow have a big improvement to make to become INTERNATIONALLY 4*. UK 5* & 4* are really international 3*.
- Aldo (10/5): - Excellent support and kindness.
Hotel and rooms very well designed.
- Mark (10/5): Central location with great views of Abergaveny - I booked in to the hotel as i had a business breakfast meeting regarding www.worldseriesbowls.co.uk .The hotel is superb, having the WOW factor from the moment i entered the car park with "Sugar Loaf" hill looking on. What was excellent was the support the hotel manager and staff gave me and my business colleague to book an area to do a Facebook Live interview at short notice regarding World Series Bowls. THANK YOU and we had a successful FB live interview
- Verified traveler (8/5): The Angel, 10 - 11/11/17 - Pretty good
- Franc (10/5): Town centre. Close to everything. - Delightful service and ambiance. Excellent food and beverage selection. Rooms a bit crowded.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Superstar staff at The Angel made my stay! - The lovely, warm and exceptionally helpful team at The Angel made this visit truly wonderful! Breakfast (both cooked and continental) was also very memorable, especially the delicious pastries from their own bakery. My only regret was that the bakery was closed on Sunday so I wasn't able to load up on goodies to take back home and share. Next time!
- John (10/5): Town centre hotel - Everything came up to expectation and beyond! Staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel was impeccably clean, tastefully decorated with a hint of recent refurbishment. Thoroughly recommended!
- Chris (10/5): Excellent hotel - I stayed here because of a friends wedding. I couldn't fault the hotel, facilities, service or staff. It has a good car park; the staff were nice and friendly and always eager to help; the room was excellent with good facilities (including dozens of power sockets/USB charging points for a change) and actual air conditioning!; and the dinning facilities and bar were very pleasant and welcoming.
- Alison (10/5): The Angel deserves Welsh hotel of the year award - We chose the hotel in Abergavenny for practical reasons to attend a family wedding in Usk. But we were so impressed with the hotel overall that it made it feel like a short holiday. You can tell that great thought, quality and attention to detail has been given throughout - unexpected for accommodation in a small town. Bedroom super comfortable, lots of different reception rooms befitting their purpose (breakfast room, dining room, bar, reading lounge) and nooks and crannies. Breakfast menu gave us confidence to eat evening meal there - something we rarely do in a hotel in this country. Above all, the staff were very warm, welcoming and efficient - which smacks of a thorough recruitment approach. My husband is a bread fiend and loved their bakery's sourdough ...
- William (10/5): Very good - Best hotel in Abergavenny.
- Naomi (10/5): Home away from home - This hotel is beautiful. The staff are amazing and there to help with anything. Right in the middle of town with a private carpark at rear. We loved being at The Angel. When we left it was like leaving home!
- Brian (10/5): Lovely old town centre hotel - This hotel has a touch of class .It has been imaginatively refurbished with sensitivity and creativity.The staff were all excellent and helpful.Standards obviously matter to the owners of this fine hotel .
- James (10/5): Little Gem - Very nice stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, lots of character. Very good restaurant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very welcoming hotel - A most enjoyable stay with a very comfortable room, delicious breakfast and very friendly staff. Ideally placed in the town.
- Richard (10/5): Elegant hotel in the centre of town. - Worth every penny of price paid. Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff. Very nice room with comfortable bed and good facilities. Hotel is very well maintained and has lots of character and charm. Will definitely stay again when opportunity arises.
- Christine (10/5): - Charming hotel in the market town of Abergavenny. Short distant from glorious mountain walks or rent a boat on the canal. Lots todo if you're into the outdoors.
- Mark (10/5): Lovely hotel - I was here for one night for business in the area and I was very pleased with the Angel Hotel. The staff were extremely polite and professional and the hotel has a real feeling of grandeur about it. The bar had a good selection of all the drinks you could ever want and although I didn't eat at the restaurant I was certainly tempted. The room was lovely, the decor is far nicer than I expected mixing classic touches with modern features. Overall 5/5 I would definitely come here again for leisure purposes.
- Rosemary (10/5): Good hotel and good situation - Very welcoming staff and the room was very comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient and good value - Small room, small shower room would go for superior toom next time
Restaurant atmosphere great and good value, Central town location good for shopping
- Roberta (8/5): - great weather, very friendly people, close access to everything
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Had a lovely overnight stay,building work on our floor, would have been nice if we had been told prior to our visit,as some noise.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Excellent hotel - I had been told by a friend that the hotel was very good but it surpassed my expectations. The staff were both friendly and professional, very helpful. My room was comfortable with plenty of good quality toiletries and towels, as well as a bathrobe. The restaurant and bar were exceptionally good with some of the best food I've eaten at reasonable prices. I would certainly stay there again and probably shall do so as I like Abergavenny very much.
- Philip (6/5): Different than our first stay! - There is a large festival on at the weekend and everything seemed set up for this.
We have stayed before and it was fantastic, this time however, it was OK. The room was small for an executive room and the bed was tiny for a double -my feet stuck out of the end (I am only 6 foot tall). It was a warm evening but there was no air conditioning or fan in the room. Rooms were being improved in the rest of the hotel - maybe this was something to do with it.
We would go back -mainly due to the fact that our first stay was superb. Let's hope our next one is!
- Antony (10/5): Loving it in Abergavenny. - Sumptuous luxury in every way. The Restaurant was superb. The food was amazing. The hotel has character oozing from every pore.
Criticisms? It's easy to get lost in it's myriad of corridors and rooms.
Awesome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location - Great comfy hotel with excellent service, food and cleanliness.
- Alan (10/5): Lovely hotel with great service - A lovely weekend stay. Great hotel right in the middle of town.
- Jonathan (10/5): The best service I have experienced in the UK - I stayed in a beautiful room in this recently decorated hotel, was served great food and provided with genuinely fantastic service. I stay in a lot of hotels around the UK and NEVER leave reviews, but the service here was so ridiculously good I feel obliged to.
- Niall (10/5): - Delightful friendly staff. Beautiful flower arrangements.
Great setting in a very interesting small town surrounded by amazing scenery
- Richard (10/5): Best hotel in the area! - Very good as advertised. I think this is the best hotel in the area!
- kevin (4/5): 21 and out - This is not the first time that we have stayed here, and by returning we have shown a willingness to recommend them, if only to ourselves!
This was different.
We booked through Hotels.com, and arrived to be given room 21.
As we were short of time, having little time to change before going out, we had to make do rather than insisting on a change of room.
So what was wrong? Well:
# the carpet was threadbare in places;
# the shower head was cracked and difficult to use;
# the bath was chipped badly, and had rust round the plug hole;
# the box of tissues was empty on arrival;
# the room was on the south east corner of the hotel and so overlooked a junction, making sleep less than peaceful.
When, next morning, I spoke to the duty manager about the situation, I was given an apology, and a 40% discount, but was informed that those who book through third parties, such as Expedia and Hotels.com, were not upgraded as would happen to direct bookings.
She had no answer as to why with 30% empty rooms, those which are so substandard were being used at all.
The functional rooms on the ground floor are very comfortable.
Breakfast is a good buffet.
Parking is easy to access..
I doubt if I will return, but suggest that you give it a miss if they are unable to confirm that you will not be in a room overlooking the road, particularly room 21.
- Chrissie (4/5): Central hotel - The exterior of The Angel Hotel is being renovated and looks wonderful. However, I found that my room was a little tire and dated - and the shower was very old.
- Timothy (8/5): Recommended - We had a very enjoyable stay with excellent service.
The bathroom was the only disappointment .dated,and a stinging shower.
But we would definitely like to stay again..
- JOHN (10/5): Town centre stay. - Everything was great - good central location. Very comfortable - lots of character.
