• Daniel (3/5): Don’t stay completely avoid - The location The bathroom was dirty. Had panels missing from under the sink. Toilet flusher was missing. Shower kept dripping. Room had a little blow heater and wasn’t capable of heating a room that size in February. Tv had a mind of its own and turned off every 5 minutes

However the room was lovely and the staff really nice and polite. More sound proofing, sometime if someone was near the room outside you could hear their entire conversation.

Which was confusing so had to go elsewhere to eat was not happy. The welcome was not good either staff was very rude there was a big language barrier from start to finish

I showed them the booking in my booking.com account on my iphone, but still would not give me the key to the room. Made me wait over an hour. • Tess (10/5): An hotel in a great location, with brilliant staff and exceptional food. - We stayed for one night as we were attending the Isle of Wight Jazz Weekend but wish we'd been able to stay for longer. The staff were incredibly friendly and our room was really big with a stunning sea view. The exceptional food at this hotel is made fresh and includes meals such as vegan pancakes for breakfast and biryani for dinner. The bar stays open late and there is a pool table in the bar area. The location is superb being a short walk from the seafront and Shanklin town.

The negatives: Strict no-refund policy – I booked by mistake and couldn’t cancel even though it was 4 months before my travel date. Dirty carpets and overall poor cleanliness throughout the hotel. Towels were only changed once during a 7-night stay, and that was on the last night. Parking is very limited and inconvenient. No blackout curtains – I was woken up by daylight at 6am every morning. The bath was so small it wouldn’t even be suitable for a toddler. The advertised buffet restaurant was closed, yet still listed on the website. Bars and restaurants on-site were always empty, likely because the menu was overpriced and very limited. Outdated décor and furniture – the whole place feels like it badly needs
• Taimur (7/5): Lovely. Comfy cozy stay. - The location was absolutely incredible, just a five-minute stroll to the stunning beach. The room was generously spacious and exuded comfort, making our stay truly delightful. The carpet was not cleaned thoroughly, and there were noticeable stains. Additionally, the equipment we requested was outdated and in poor condition. It is essential that these items be replaced with new, upgraded versions to ensure proper functionality.

This hotel has so much potential - the view, the size, the parking etc, but doesn't seem to be run by hoteliers. The owners are new so hopefully they will bring the hotel up to a good standard without too much difficulty. No chair in the bedroom when I arrived but one was immediately brought up to the room when requested. But it was a very flimsy, plastic fold up chair that was not really good enough to sit on for working at the desk. Very polite and kind staff.

• MAGDALENA (5/5): OK for one night, no more. - The hotel feels very dated and stuck in time, and it wasn’t particularly clean. Children were playing football right outside our room, which seemed to be considered normal, but it made the stay noisy. The location is fairly good, as it’s close to the beach, and the beds were comfortable enough for sleeping. However, the room itself looked old and tired, and our view was of the back area, which was unpleasant. There were old wooden stairs at the back of the building leading to another part of the hotel, but they also made it feel as though anyone could easily access our room, which didn’t give a safe impression. Decor, dated and tired surroundings, smell.

The kettle was awful—cheap plastic, probably the cheapest in the world. The fan was so dirty that we didn’t want to turn it on, and it was clear that it hadn’t been cleaned. The room, and the entire building, were very old and had not been renovated. The TV was extremely small. Overall, it did not feel suitable for people who care about cleanliness and hygiene.

• Stait (10/5): Jonny and Charmain - Family run by Indian family, all very helpful and polite, cultured people. The food was exceptionally good, we travelled from mainland (cotwolds) on a motorcycle and booked online the afternoon of arrival, we ate at a pub in Brading which was mediocre at best and overpriced, whereas the Mayfair is extremely well made homecooked Indian cuisine at a fraction of the pub cost and hugely better. I would definitely stay again. ❤ My wife would have liked mint tea, but hey you can't have everything..... no faults, we enjoyed our stay, very much.

• Hilary (8/5): Good value hotel in a great position - The position of this hotel is perfect. Rooms with a sea view have an amazing view. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities that you can top up as you need to. We ate a chicken biryani in the restaurant which was very tasty. The staff were very pleasant and helped us carry our bags up and down from the room. The rooms were not serviced each day and we nearly ran out of toilet paper. The beds were extremely hard. The kettle lead wasn't long enough to reach the table so we had to put it on the floor. Our room did not have a sea view.
