Guest Reviews
- Suki (6/5): Not bad for what I paid - Stayed for 1 night with my son who was competing at a sports tournament the following day locally, so more of a convenience trip/stay. Car park was a little limited though I did manage to park. The appearance from outside was nice and the welcome from the gentleman at the desk was friendly and pleasant, though don't expect there to be a Reception Desk (it was a table and a guy with a laptop)! But got our room key quickly which was good. The bar area looked quite good and general appearance of corridors and the room were OK and the place was clean. I just found there were some little things like pain peeling from some walls and skirting boards, extension leads being used instead of there being sufficient sockets, the TV aerial was a bit dodgy and signal went in and out, stuff like that. The air cooling unit was also not the best (they made a point of stating it was not an air conditioning unit) which made for an uncomfortable sleep (as it was a very hot night). Breakfast in the morning was nice and check-out staff were again pleasant and friendly. Overall, it was an OK stay for what we needed. I have a voucher which meant I paid about £45 for the room that night, which was about right. Would I have paid the full £90 something pounds? Probably not.
- David (10/5): - I use this hotel regularly - it is reasonable and the staff are nice and friendly, rooms are good as is the facility
- Pauline (10/5): - Very convenient local shops. Staff friendly
- paulette (8/5): - The staff were amazing . Always keen to help … they couldn’t do enough for us . Breakfast was delicious as was the salmon salmon .
The only slight downsize is there was an un pleasant smell in the bathroom .. probably drains ? But it didnt spoil my stay . Will definitely stay again .
- Lynda (10/5): - Very clean. Friendly staff
- Phil (4/5): Not fabulous IMO - Maybe in was unlucky with my room but I found the room to be lacking anything to make this a “fabulous“ rating. The decor was patched up and tired, the floor was dirty in places and the ‘worn’ designer look was more through neglect than intentional. The bathroom was really the main disappointment with broken tiles, mould and broken fittings.
My room overlooked the car park of the JD gym and McDonalds. The noise of the loud exhaust enthusiasts at 4am wasn’t appreciated - no fault of the staff who were very helpful and professional.
- jaspreet (6/5): - rooms were very small
- Martin (6/5): Staff great, but hotel needs an update - Hotel is a bit dated now, location wise OK for Birmingham short car journey in, it's the 3rd time of staying here over the years and it is definitely showing it's age now, Service wise the staff are great always on hand and always have a smile on their face, that part of the hotel is 10 out of 10.
This time though came away itching like crazy after the 2 night stay the rooms do feel very tired and rough around the edges
- Susan (10/5): Excellent stay!! - When we arrived the receptionist had to leave for an emergency, leaving the
catering/housekeeping team to explain to waiting customers and arrange cover. They kept us informed and supplied us with drinks while we waited.
Wayne arrived after a short wait and was very apologetic for the inconvenience. He checked us all in quickly and efficiently.
We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and the room well layed out. Complimentary breakfast had plenty of choice.
I cannot praise the staff enough especially Shannon who was very knowledgeable of the area and adviced us of best way to travel to Birmingham. Of course Wayne who had to come in on his day off and cope with the customers that had been waiting to check in and Anj, who I believe is the owner, who came to cover staff shortages.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, which we probably will in the near future.
- paul (6/5): OK but nothing special to encourage us back again - The few staff we met were very pleasant.
Breakfast was quite good - variety was excellent but utensils, glassware and tables were dirty (not just uncleared).
Thankfully there were only a handful of guests at breakfast as it would be hell if crowded as the area is small and most seating looked uncomfortable (they'd call it trendy).
Our twin bedded room was tiny - not helped by cramming 2 chairs and a stool into it. There was hanging space for 4 items but not a single shelf or drawer to place anything else - I guess they expect business travellers to use their suitcase as storage.
There was a bulky and very noisy air-conditioning unit fixed to the window - and if you had the bed which was just 3 inches from it, you were freezing!!
The stay was OK but we wouldn't go back again - we'd rather pay an extra tenner and stay at Premier Inn down the road.
The late night fire alarm was probably not their fault.
- Jane (2/5): Disappointing - We booked in March hotel.com cancelled this booking the day before by email that went into my junk so no room for us when we arrived. We were offered a room out of commission as it was rain damaged, we were grateful as no option but it stank of damp.
- Catherine (8/5): Perfect for our needs. - We stayed in room 111 and had family staying in other rooms. Every member of staff we met were lovely, friendly and polite. The room was very clean but there was a few things a bit off. Bits of black mould in the shower, silverfish in the bathroom, Bulb missing from the big light on the ceiling and the bedside spot lights way too bright, which made getting ready for a funeral difficult as I am a bit short to be leaning over the bathroom sink to access the mirror. The breakfast was lovely and bountiful there was some nice touches.
- Avinash (4/5): - No house keeping service
Bed sheets dirty
- Ray (6/5): Needs a bit attention to detail otherwise good - Great accomodation as usual apart from the silver fish running around the shower tray, did report these on departure, reception noted and said this will be dealt with. This is a little bit disappointing since this has been our regular hotel to visit whilst visiting our son and family.Apart from that best brekky in Birmingham status confirmed
- George (8/5): Bad start good finish - Hotel is reasonably new from its appearance. However despite two separate systems there was no heat working in the first room. Staff were very quick to find an alternative room and offer assistance with moving.
General condition and comfort is good plus there is a nice little bar and separate restaurant.
The Gym is open to the public and the users don't worry who's cars they block in. In fact the car park is too small for the hotel but I think you can park on the retail park next door. If approaching from the motorway go straight across the island and enter through the retail park, that saves a trip up a busy dual carriageway and a U turn.
- Dimitri (8/5): Great hotel near Birmingham and out of CAZ - Hotel is very good. Nice bed. Great shower. Friendly staff. Free and easy parking. Many shops at walking distance. Quick access to central Birmingham, but still out of CAZ.
- Richard (8/5): - Older hotel bought by Ibis and basically cleaned up with an Ibis sign screwed on the outside. Not bad at all but not the 'normal' Ikea style newbuild you normally get with Ibis
- Verified traveler (4/5): Rather disappointing .... - The hotel is very tired which is a shame as could easily be improved. Our room was OK but the mattress was like a rock and very uncomfortable.
Nice welcome and friendly staff on the whole ...
We were disapointed that when we got back from working an event, we couldn't get a drink from the bar, or even room service, however, it was late so fair enough. We just sat quietly chatting about our evening. We were even less impressed, however, when we were told to go to bed by the night porter so that he could clean where we were sat! We didn't have anything to make a mess with, so I'm sure he could've wiped the table once we'd left! Anyway, we took ourselves off to bed like the good little 50 year olds that we are!
The breakfast was surprisingly good but the hot food trays were quite dangerous, falling through the holes when the lids were lifted. You might like to look at this ....
- Sophie (6/5): Smelly bathroom - I should have asked for another room but was too tired after a long day working. The bathroom smelled of damp or sewers, very off putting. Bathroom towels were very tatty and thin. Shower had seen much better days, grouting and sealant was gone in places.
Not the hotel fault, but the noise from the corridor and other rooms is rather loud. Good job I had some earplugs.
On the plus side, bed was comfy, car park is free and location is convenient for the M5, gym on site is a bonus.
Next time I will book somewhere else.
- Amanda (10/5): Great stay - Very good stay, staff friendly, clean and comfortable and and very nice breakfast with lots of choice. I only slightly marked down the comfort score because I prefer carpet in hotel rooms, but overall a great stay and excellent value for money.
- Donya (6/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, however we were disappointed with cleanliness! From bedsheets to shower and toilet. The breakfast was ok.
- Michael (8/5): Xmas shopping - Comfy bed great breakfast good location friendly staff faulty shower
- Marie (10/5): Great stay at an even greater price! - Firstly, I would like to thank the staff for looking after us, they were polite and helpful and kept in touch with us from the day before our arrival.
The room was comfy and had everything we needed. The breakfast came free with the room, it was a self serve but had everything, from a full English, to pastries, yogurt, dairy free, fruit and cereals. The bar area has comfy seats, which you can use even if you are not drinking. The property is very secure too.
We booked our dual room (2 single beds) 14 days before at an amazing £55.49 on Hotels.com, that included breakfast that was pre-paid.
- Delroy (4/5): Disappointed - On 13.11.2022, I wrote to their WhatsApp - Room 218, IHG, Wolverhampton Road. Your showroom door fell off on me while I was in the shower. This happened at 10pm on 12/11/2022. I moved the door to the corner of the shower. If it was my wife who had gone into the shower first it could have need disastrous. Can I have your explanation for this? It is the first time in 40+ years of visiting hotels and motels all over the globe we've had such a dangerous thing happen. You have my details in your booking system (the name is Pomell). I reported the incident on 13/11/2022 at approximately 10.08am. We just received 3 "oh I'm sorry". Please respond…..” They have not responded.
- Jill (10/5): - Fantastic trendy and very comfortable hotel. Friendly and helpful staff and food good
Great 2 night stay
Thankyou
- kuldip (10/5): - Fabulous
- Chi Wai (8/5): - It is a good hotel, clean, friendly staff, convenient with supermarkets and fast food shops in walking distance.
Sound proof between corridors and room to be improved.
- Craig (8/5): Liked the style of this. Lives up to its name - How do I describe this hotel? An Ibis but with a bit more I would say. It seems they all have a theme. This was is themed around the Black Country of the West Midlands.
The rooms and the public areas all have more than you would have in a regular Ibis. More stylish, less clinical, more eclectic. I liked it. Even has a gym.
I would be interested to see what other Styles hotels are like. This wasnt a brand I had considered before. I will now
- Susan (10/5): - Very comfortable, air conditioning in the room. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast between 8 and 11 meaning no rushing or having to set alarms.
- Danny (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff
- Yasmin (10/5): - Amazing value. Hotel was ultra clean. Three room was larger than some more expensive hotels I've stayed in. Great shower with good pressure. Can't compliment the hotel enough
- Wendy (8/5): Pleasant stay - Pleasant stay. Comfortable beds. Minimal furniture. Clean bathroom. Friendly staff. Good stop over hotel. Easy to get to. Standard breakfast options.
- L (8/5): - Pleasant hotel with very friendly staff, decent food, reasonably priced bar. Beeakfast was good and the decor contemporary
- Kin Lok (8/5): - Nice hotel with a amazing gym big room, also with all the helpful staff in the hotel.
the room is clean and tidy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Needs to look at ironing out minor issues - Good budget hotel . Only issue was checkin at 2.30pm , allocates room but when opened the room wasn’t made up and had to go back to reception to get it rectified . Got sorted quickly . Room bedside table at a slant with loose screws needs fixing. However friendly staff and excellent breakfast
- Marc (8/5): Stay for Commonwealth Games. - Overall hotel was very good, Staff very friendly and helpful, but hot breakfast needed to be warmer as it was only just off room temperature. Room OK, not enough storage space and just having to hang clothes up on a small pipe, not very good. Bed a little bit harder than I was used to but OK. Room cleaning needs improvement, as toilet and sink wasn't cleaned enough. I don't think the floor was swept too much either. Enjoyed atmosphere in the bar for Commonwealth Games.
- Robert (4/5): - Nice staff, good breakfast, modern-ish. Small, hot and uncomfortable room, “air-conditioner” is some kind of in wall fan. Mine didn’t work properly - told management about it and they didn’t do anything. Went to the Ramada across the street - much better. Wouldn’t stay here again
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Helpful friendly staff. Very comfortable
- Louisa (10/5): Great stay, great staff - Check-in was great - and a huge Thankyou to the member of staff who kindly brought my phone to the room when I left it in the bar!! Room gorgeous, huge, comfy bed and powerful shower. Only thing for me personally was no de-caff tea or veggie sausages at breakfast but rest was amazing.
- Alan (8/5): Overnight stay - Nice room. Clean. More coffee sachets would have been appreciated.
Nobody on reception when i arrived but staff very helpfull afterwards.
Very convenient for J2 M5
- joanne (6/5): Ok - The staff here are amazing. So helpful, caring and friendly. Food is really good with good choices. Parking is not ideal, cramped and difficult to manoeuvre, but it is free. The room was ok. Mattress was lumpy and not particularly comfortable. Bathroom ok. Both could have been cleaner and there was a nasty damp patch in the corner of the room. Which I think I saw in a previous review. My main issue was with other guests, which is not really a hotel review. But noisy, uncouth foul mouthed guests insisting in watching loud videos in the bar when people were trying to eat. As a lone female traveler it’s not what I expected.
- Sandra (6/5): - Unfortunately I had booked the hotel for my son and grandson my son had accident and could make the journey so no one used the room I booked for two night and I know I cannot get a refund or credit .. it was sad for me not to see my boys 😢
- J (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent as always, I have not stayed here for about a year and the service was just as I have always been used to. See you all again soon
- EMMANOUIL (10/5): Great stay - Everything was great, free parking, gym in the hotel, nice rich breakfast, very clean room, very comfortable bed and pillows, very nice bathroom, no refrigerator though in the room, and only terrestrial channels in the tv, and no view (small window that opens only slightly, cannot see outside)
But these were not really so important to me, this was excellent value for money...
- Sabeer (10/5): - We have stayed here a few times now and have enjoyed our stay. The hotel is conveniently located just off the M5 and only a short drive into West Brom and Birmingham
- Angela (6/5): Needs attention to bedroom - Check in was really good and the reception area was nice and welcoming. Once you left that area the hallway to rooms were very tired. Needs freshening up by painting.
I arrived late and had enough time to just drop things off before I had to leave for the evening.
Again other competitors on same level HIExpress, premier Inn rooms are kept in tip top condition.
When I returned brown stains on the floor, curtains and dirty floor. Again room very tired but bathroom was nice. I did make reception aware of this. Breakfast was very good. Good location.
- Samantha (10/5): Not to be missed..... - Jack and Hardy were brilliant and an asset to IBIS. I have stayed a couple times now and am due back a third time on the 17th March. They always greet me professionally but remember my name. Thank you fellas for a great welcome and stay. Look forward to returning.
- Emma (8/5): - Stayed a few times , always super friendly staff , room is always clean & well presented , evening food & breakfast is smashing - plenty of choice! Thanks for lovely stays at the Ibis in Oldham 5*
- Andrew (8/5): Ok but could be better! - I did find the hotel rather style over function. The flooring is particularly not goody cheap laminate and not fitted well.
I was put in a very small room but was moved to a better one but still, same issue with fitting done cheaply.
The hotel does shake when people in the gym on first floor use weights, quite off putting!
The staff are very polite and the food is awesome, so on the whole, not bad!
- Agata (6/5): Budget stay only - First room was a box room for 2, extremely tiny and dirty…personally I think cleaning was just missed.. we have asked for a clean room , as this was unexpectable…we were advise that all rooms are fully booked. After 10minutes there was a room available, a bit bigger and cleaner room.It was ok but very budget /hotel don’t expect much and you would be happy with your stay :)
- KEITH (10/5): Great for a nights stay - Pefect for overnight stay .. clean, friendly staff and a great choice for breakfast
- Helen (10/5): Excellent Service - Receptions staff were excellent, bar and eating area immaculate and modern, rooms clean and full of useful items and breakfast was hot and fresh with again, excellent service
- Eden (10/5): Amazing! - One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in! 10/10 for absolutely everything.
- Arjun (10/5): - The hotel very trendy and staff was great
- Kevin (6/5): Food not prepped correctly - Friendly staff, but let down really badly by garlic mushrooms arriving to my table still frozen in the middle. On telling the staff, they said they would do them again, but the experience was already ruined by then.
I thought that a complimentary meal would have been the solution, but a drink on the house was the only offer.
Poor effort I’m afraid.
- Chi Yuen (8/5): - Old
- Samantha (10/5): - Very pleasantly suprised. Made to feel very welcome by staff and breakfast was exceptional.
- Kelly (8/5): - Mostly a lovely stay
Positives- lovely room, hotel was lovely inside, very stylish, warm, spacious. Good check out time, very varied breakfast
Negatives - (not the hotels fault) other residents being stupidly loud at 3.30AM, only a set food menu on (should of been told this at booking or on arrival which we weren’t) it is right next to a very busy road.
- Susan (6/5): Good stay but more staff needed - Staff were brilliant but at check in only 1 staff member doing check in , managing the bar so had ro wait for 20 minutes to check in
- Rajni (10/5): - It was lovely nice and comfortable stay. Breakfast was really good. We enjoyed
- Andrew (10/5): Visiting mother in law. - Our 1st ever visit to ibis style hotel & we loved it.A warm welcome on arrival from demi & luke & complimentary sweets as well.Room was perfect but with me being disabled & my wife's mobility issues we were given a free upgrade to a disability suite. Full english breakfast included as well as continental I'd not hesitate to recommend the hotel. Definitely worthy of 5 stars.
- Sue (8/5): Excellent stay. - Was greeted by a lovely young man named Hardy who booked us in. Reception area was excellent and the bar area even better. We were given two bags of complimentary sweets, which came in handy for the show that we'd booked to see. Noticed on the way to our room the corridors could do with a repaint! Room was excellent though, although it was a little small. Pillows were very hard, so didnt have a brilliant sleep. However the breakfast that greeted us in the morning was brilliant so made up for my lack of sleep. Overall brilliant.
- Sara (8/5): Enjoyed it! - It was a super lovely styled lobby, bathroom was nice. Shower had a setting we described as terrential downpour! Only downside I thought was no vegetarian meat alternatives so wasn’t much I could eat for the hot breakfast
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK for a single night, £60, Friday - Good clean room although very close to elevated motorway so nose throughout the night. View from my room (106) was mainly of the motorway. Double bedded room was small, basic, but enough for a single night, shower was good, screen dirty around the the bottom edge but otherwise clean. No Netflix even though there was a prominent button on the remote. Bed was okay. Self service breakfast, plenty of food, fried breakfast, cereals, no porridge just a jar of oats, some cold water on the table would have been nice but tea, ok machine coffee, and juices available.
Staff friendly and helpful. Car parking good. I didnt use the gym.
- Martin (8/5): Shame about the heat and the sausage - Convenient hotel with great staff.
Cons - very hot room, stupid coat hanger system, awful sausages.
Pros - good, well thought out room. Breakfast (excepting sausages), bar, free parking
- Raymond (8/5): - Was expensive for this category of hotel and I can only guess there was an event in the area, as all the budget hotels were pricey
- Chloe (4/5): Friendly staff but very disappointing stay - The staff were very friendly but unfortunately we were quite disappointed with our stay. The first room provided did not fit the travel cot the hotel said they could provide for our 4 month old baby. The staff were very good and quickly swapped us to another room that did fit it, unfortunately this room was no where near as nice. The window sill had clearly not been cleaned and was covered in dirt and dead bugs, there were dead leaves on the floor around the window, a dirty tissue in the bathroom bin, and the whole room smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. there was even a dead daddy long legs hanging from the ceiling! The travel cot the hotel provided us with was unusable as they did not provide a suitable mattress with it. Instead they just folded up a duvet and put it in the bottom. This is completely unsafe as a baby can suffocate in something as soft as this, so we had to have her in the bed with us resulting in me getting very little sleep through worrying about whether she was okay. ( Although co sleeping is more safe than her sleeping in what was provided it still is not the best option! ) If the hotel does not have a mattress for the cot then they should not say that they can provide a cot at all.
- Jade (10/5): 10/10 - Hotel was modern, staff were lovely and the hotel was in an easily accessible location. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was definitely the highlight, such a wide range of lovely food. Didn’t use the gym but looked like it had everything you would need.
- Ray (8/5): Great hotel, great breakfast - For what we needed great hotel, great breakfast, staff really helpful, beds great, some of the decor in the room needed a bit of tlc but overall great value for money would stay there again
- amdadul (8/5): - Extremely friendly staff both in reception and kitchen staff.
Room felt a bit warm at times, reasonably clean although there seems to be a fair amount of dust as proved when I dropped my phone and it picked up an incredible amount of dust perhaps because it had partly fell on the rug.
Overall a pleasant stay, good location.
- nigel (10/5): - Excellent budget style hotel, great service from the staff.
Nice breakfast
Good location to the M5 and local supermarkets
- Jon (10/5): Better than expected bargain - Room was basic but perfectly adequate, the facilities (gym, hotel bar, etc) were better than expected for the price point, and the inclusive breakfast was suprisingly tasty and varied. Only downside was the building site and heavy machinery next door waking us up at 7am on Saturday morning!
- Myles (10/5): - Lovely bar nice clean rooms
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was very small and oddly shaped as a result not particularly comfortable.
The bathroom door didn’t close without lifting it first.
Also the emergency light fitting in the room was disturbing to sleep as it had a very bright green led illuminating the room all night.
- Jorge (10/5): Nice - Amusing decoration and quiet rooms. Added to it was free parking, breakfast and gym for the same price other hotels charge for just the room. Will go back if in the area again
- Stuart (10/5): Excellent Hotel but location not for everyone - Clean well kept modern Hotel in typical Ibis fashion but I would not recommend this hotel for a long stay simply because of its location not being in walking distance to a town centre and its not an pedestrian friendly area, the car is king. Nevertheless it’s right next to the M5 off J2 and therefore is ideally located for exploring Birmingham and the surrounding area. Staff were very friendly and room spotless.
- Deirdre (10/5): Helpful, polite and friendly staff - There appeared to be a lack of staff, but the staff that were there were very helpful, polite and friendly. There was a problem with our bill when we were checking out but the staff were very helpful and sorted this for us before we left.
- michal (4/5): - room just ok ,functional but not comfortable
- Steve (4/5): don't expect a parking space. And check what event - Luckily got a car park space. Was advised wouldn't get one again if I had to go back out as there was a boxing event on with alot of guests expected. This was one reason I chose this hotel for a parking space.
Then the boxing event went on till after 12 and very loud crown outside my window.
- Nanjit (10/5): Liked my Ist ever stay @Ibis - Clean, modern tidy.
Rooms clean good decor and badic furniture. Shower moder clean and good hot shower . Lounge comfy, clean tidy
Restaurant good selection for breakfasts
Fresh bean grind coffee
Variety of cereals, good hot English breakfast. Freshly made as being used up.
Free parking.
Very pleased with our stay at Ibis Oldbury
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Faulty air conditioner Used a small fan for night
- Mark (8/5): - Would quite happily stay again, staff very friendly and helpful on arrival
- Boluwatife (10/5): - Very good. Enjoyed my stay. Nice hotel. No stress. Friendly staff at the gym too. They just couldn’t assist with microwaving food at the kitchen.
- Gareth (10/5): Better than advertised - Great hotel, our room was a bit on the small side, although the bed was huge, loved the quirky decor. Good gym, breakfast had a really good selection too.
- Steven (8/5): - Arrived very late evening but staff member Paul was very welcoming and accommodating. Quiet room allocated as requested. Good nights sleep and breakfast buffet ok. Would recommend for overnight stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great sleep ,friendly staff! - Stopped here 1 night for work, bed was very comfy although the drone of the bedroom fan that wouldn't switch off was a little annoying.
Really helpful staff.
Car park was fairly busy but I seemed to have timed it just right to get a spot.
Looking forward to staying again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Stay - It was very clean and I had a nice stay. But the double bed was two singles together which wasn’t nice to sleep on at night due to the gap between the two beds. But overall it’s clean, nice, and very modern.
- darren (10/5): Great little hotel with outstanding gym - Everything is great about this hotel

Great value hotel, very nice
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff were friendly and attentive.. especially the receptionist....he called us a taxi and let us know when it arrived.... usual stuff, but he was very polite, friendlyand helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent place .
Perfectly situated around motorway.
Been staying here years .
Recommended
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We had to wait over 15 minutes for a memebet of staff to check us in , the room was box like and no air con it was like a sauna , did sleep well at all
- Laura (10/5): Friendly and efficient - I use this hotel regularly for meetings and stay there too. The staff are so friendly and helpful, especially Luke, Jack and Demi on reception.
