Guest Reviews
- Shearer (10/5): Perfect time! - We had a wonderful time at the gazebo an for breakfast on the patio every morning. Absolutely delightful! That I only got to spend 4 nights!
- Colin (8/5): Everything else at the property was perfect - It is in a beautiful setting The only complaint I have is that the room that we had would normally be perfect but the first 2 nights there was a wedding and our room was right at reception and we did not get to sleep until after 1 both nights … this sort of ruined the trip a bit because we were both tired
- Susan (7/5): We loved the setting! A few suggestions: new, larger flag; clean tops of garbage; plant entrance pla - Setting is beautiful, breakfast was great All the locked doors🤪 Dining room for breakfast was cold - it was warmer outside☀️ More tables for two in dining room.
- William (7/5): - Room, location, breakfast, 1 staff front desk person treated me as if I was a bum,,, questioned me when I asked him to use the phone to call my room, told me I wasn't staying in that room,,,? I ASSURED him I was, only after I told him WELL THAT'S WHERE I JUST CAME FROM DID HE ASK MY NAME,and dial the number 3113 I spoke to my wife, told her I was at the pavilion, and she should drive to it, because it was raining harder, and we will eat.
After hanging up the man asked are you locked out, this made me almost angry,,, I explained maybe to loudly, that I walked down to see the pavilion, food, now it's raining so instead of walking back to report that the food looked great I was telling my wife to come in the truck.
If that's all done,,,! I'm pissed, but once we leave the pavilion I see him, as we get into our vehicle, leaving the office, once we get to our room, he's standing in the hallway speaking to the cleaning staff, then seeing me he, says something in Spanish to the staff they all laugh and he leaves.
My thoughts are the way I was dressed, heavy shirt drenched with rain, old Wyoming hat, ?????

Lodge has a big fireplace.....cozy for cold mornings and late evenings. Pub had a great menu for tired travelers wanting a quick bite. It exceeded expectation.

- James (9/5): Super location. - Excellent property with great breakfast. Wish they had king size beds
- Robert (9/5): My wife and I both enjoyed our stay. Thank you. - Accommodations were more than what I expected. The scenic location was a bonus. The staff were very friendly and helpful in answering questions. And, as a Vietnam veteran, I especially enjoyed meeting some old vets that also chose this location. I have no complaints.
- Dennis (7/5): - Breakfast was good. Laundry facilities were helpful. We were assigned a room directly next to the lobby. It was distracting with people checking in and visiting in the lobby.
- Barry Hardingham (8/5): -
- Dan (10/5): - Beautiful property with first class personnel and amenities.

- DAVID (9/5): Pleasant Find near Mt Rushmore - Setting. Quietness, ring of fire patio, fireplace, reading spots... Price. While reading in the lobby I overheard a front desk phone call quoting the caller a much lower price for the same room we had .. makes me wonder how much booking.com takes as a cut... Maybe next time we'll book direct and save money. The difference was enough had we had the lower rate we would have stayed another night.
- Jennifer (10/5): I would 10 out of 10 recommend again! - This hotel is absolutley stunning and the location is perfection! It's beautiful and has a nice hot tub and the camp fire for the guests to huddle around is quite nice! I would 10 out of 10 recommend again! It's also near some Great attractions! Not just Mount Rushmore. People should really check out Bear Country! We visited in October. I would have liked to have the bar available with hottie toddies to keep the guests warm! lol But the ability to purchase wine at the front counter made up for it a little. :) And the front desk staff were so much fun to chat with! Very sweet and welcoming! My daughter and I had an Amazing time!
- Linda (10/5): Wonderful stay - Everything! The location. The facilities. Absolute nothing
- Susan (9/5): We had a relaxing stay at this beautiful property. - The property was beautiful and the location was excellent. It was only a few minutes from Mr. Rushmore and The National Forest area. We were also able to make quick day trips to Badlands National Park and to Custer State Park.
- zygote2k (10/5): Top notch hotel less than 1/4 mile away from the noisy downtown area. - I randomly picked this place while looking at a map of Keystone. It happened to be priced at $100/night which was lower than the other hotels in town and had one more star to boot.
The property looked amazing when we pulled in.
The desk clerk was friendly and super helpful/informative too.
Our room was well appointed and comfortable and above all, very clean. The walks were well insulated and kept outside sounds away.
The breakfast was fresh and had a huge variety of foods, plus a staffed coffee bar for more exotic drinks. The main room of the lodge has a fireplace and couches which invite you to stay for drinks and conversation.
You can see Mt Rushmore clearly from one side of the lodge and the other buildings.
- Ralf (10/5): - Tolle und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter, das Frühstück gut und ausreichend und das Ambiente gemütlich.
- russh280 (10/5): Great lodge in the Hills - Second time staying here. Beautiful location just outside of town. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Comfy rooms, beds, bedding, etc. Definitely recommend.
- Simona (10/5): -
- marcia (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent. Lots of choices. Proximity to local sights..excellent.
- Kortnee (10/5): -
- amy g (10/5): Don’t miss the K Bar S! - The location was fabulous and our Mountain View a true joy. We sat and enjoyed the sunset in the comfort of our room. We walked around the beautiful grounds when we arrived which was a nice bonus after a long day on the road.
The coffee available in the lobby was a welcomed touch. The bed was super comfy, the bathroom roomy and the amenities were a nice touch (I don’t care for all the squeeze stuff you see these days, so a bar of Dove soap and little bottles of shampoos and rinse was really a joy!) That we couldn’t stay another day.
- EMILY (9/5): -
- Uriel (8/5): -
- Mary (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - Location, comfortable bed, breakfast
- Glynn (10/5): Highly recommending to family and friends - Easy drive minutes from Mt Rushmore
Beautifully nestled in amongst the pines
Very homey. Can’t think of a thing…
- Rodney (8/5): -
- Brian (7/5): A beautiful fall getaway - Great location, comfy room, excellent staff, beautiful grounds. The place could use an ipdate.
- Michael Chad (10/5): - Very clean! Beautiful property! Staff nice and the breakfast was excellent! From our room we could see Mount Rushmore!
- Diana (8/5): - Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was a nice start to the day. Only down side was as it was near the end of the season the restaurant on site had closed. Would definitely go back though
- Lyn (9/5): We had a lovely, relaxing time in this small, clean friendly hotel. - Location nestled in the trees, close to town and with a spectacular view of Mt Rushmore. The hot tubs were perfect. Sadly we were too late in the season to use the restaurant, as food otherwise available was not great and all the same.
- Curt (10/5): - The eggs were delightful. The muffin was fresh. Coffee was good.
Parking was no trouble.
- Dave (5/5): Barely adequate but was close to Rushmore - Breakfast was nasty...Not enough employees. I give it a 5/ 10 Told u
- Deborah (10/5): Amazing setting! - Beautiful views in a peaceful setting. Our room was very clean and comfortable.
- Erin (10/5): Great option near Mount Rushmore - They offered a good variety of breakfast items. The hotel layout is great and in a very peaceful location with a side view of mount rushmore. Parking was right next to the building. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- Cindy (10/5): - Room and property was clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly. Beds were very comfortable. Views were excellent. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options.
- martin53614 (8/5): Superb location, excellent service - This hotel is nestled in a gorgeous location, minutes from the Mt Rushmore monument but serene and peaceful.
Very clean and friendly, efficient service.
If you go during off season (starting in October), the restaurant is only open for Continental breakfast (which os excellent).
There's an outstanding restaurant for dinner at the Powder House lodge, only 4 minutes away.
- Karen (10/5): - .
- Joel (10/5): - Clean room.
- John (10/5): - This was part of a larger trip. We spent several days in the Mount Rushmore area. This hotel was very convenient to all of the local attractions. Nice view of Mount Rushmore from our balcony.
- Stephen (6/5): - Except for the Western Conifer Seed Bug infestation that appears to overwhelm the staff and maintenance group, this would have been a 4 star experience. We had multiple bugs in our room each day. Even with doors and windows closed they found a way in and made our outdoor terrace overlooking Mt Rushmore useless. Staff seems to feel if you stay there you need to accept some insects. Take that into account when booking.
- Ann (10/5): - The place was in a great location, a short distance from town and the views at night of Mt Rushmore were geeat
- Cdbongard (8/5): Perfect stay to view the Presidents from your room! - The resort was off the main road which was nice. It was a lovely lodge with multiple buildings. All rooms have balconies and we got to say Good Morning to Mount Rushmore from our room!
Delicious full breakfast. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Staff was helpful and friendly. You can also see Mount Rushmore from the large lobby.
- Bloore (10/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Clean and in a great location with wonderful staff
- Sarah (7/5): Overall hotel good, just not clear when booking some services were not available due to time of year. - Good location. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast good. Was not clear at time of booking that bar and restaurant was not open or available. Had I known this may have chosen another hotel or location. Last night in the area prior to heading home and was looking forward to staying on site and relaxing prior to going home.
- itbetterbeclean (10/5): BEST HOTEL IN KEYSTONE - After trying for months to get reservation got one 2 weeks before our trip. This property is in a class by itself compared to other hotels in Keystone. 5pm check in front desk staff very nice and efficient. King room Rushmore view is a must do, if unavailable take the 2 queens the view is worth it, you can see 2 presidents from your private deck. Room spotless well equipped there are washers and dryers between the buildings, breakfast in separate building and staff does great job keeping everything filled and tables clean. Went to Mt Rushmore evening lighting ceremony 5 min drive from hotel. Hotel grounds are large and well maintained giving it a resort feel, this was one of our favorite hotels on this trip I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.
- Colleen (10/5): -
- Scott (9/5): Excellent hotel in Keystone, SD - Beautiful location, comfortable bed, nice amenities. Backside rooms are subject to morning tour bus loading noise.
- Kelly (10/5): - Great location, nice property
- Charlotte (10/5): - Great staff. Friendly and helpful.
- vbriggs2017 (10/5): Great place to stay in the Black Hills. - Stunning location, with a very modern feeling lodge. Our room was comfortable clean, with a small balcony out front. It was the more expensive place we stayed but worth the price. Quiet, service was outstanding. The breakfast area was attractive surrounded by glass windows. The breakfast was delicious, I appreciated the blue berries, scrambled eggs with onion and green peppers, with toppings of cheese, sour cream and salsa. The fresh fruit was green so lacked flavor. The other complaint was that when we had a “do not disturb” sign on our door at 10 in the morning, the maintenance crew pounded on our door for a routine phone check. I called the front desk to confirm and they said that calling them confirmed the phone was working. I felt an apology would have been appropriate. But I would stay again.
- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful
- Cory (10/5): - The location and view to Mt. Rushmore were amazing.
- Deborah (10/5): - Very nice property, beautiful area, staff was friendly and helpful, rooms very nice and clean, beds were good, balcony on the room with wonderful views. We ate dinner at their restaurant, food was excellent and service phenomenal, breakfast the next morning was awesome. Less than 10 minutes to Mt Rushmore, so great location
- Jared (10/5): - This place was great! The views and ambiance were excellent. The property and grounds were well maintained and the rooms were very quiet.
- Rowe (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Very nice room. Great breakfast included. Craig and staff at front desk were very cordial and professional. Great location near Keystone! And quiet! We really enjoyed the stay. No complaints
- Tracy (10/5): - Beautiful location. Clean property. Breakfast was good. Will come back.
- Jeff (8/5): Keystone, in a nice, quiet area. - Great location and property. Shower has a huge rainfall shower head, but weak water pressure nullifies it. A very small tv for 2025, but good WiFi. Nice breakfast and dining area.
- Maria Angela (9/5): ottimo posto rilassante e confortevole.servizio ottimo d self service d lavatr/ asciugatrice .
- Mary Ann (8/5): Peaceful haven - What a pleasant surprise when we checked in. You can see Mt. Rushmore from the hotel lobby! We received a sincere welcome from Craig and then Laura was very helpful as well. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. A family of deer slept on the grass outside our balcony and we enjoyed coffee on our patio while enjoying the beautiful pines and of course, the profile of George Washington up on the monument! We would visit again!!
- marianne (10/5): - Very quiet, clean and comfortable. The location is close to everything but secluded. I loved the firepit.
- Janet (10/5): Perfect Stay near Mt Rushmore - Everything about our stay was perfect! Very comfortable beds, parking was great, and the breakfast served every morning was wonderful with a lot of variety. The location was close to a lot of attractions, shopping, and restaurants.
We would absolutely stay there again!
- Debra (10/5): - Great property...make sure you ask for a 2nd floor room facing Mount Rushmore!!! Clean, comfortable beds, pub has good food, friendly staff!
- Gary (10/5): - Clean everywhere.
- ROBERT (8/5): View of Washington from the room - Amazing views
- Amanda (10/5): - Beautiful property! Staff was friendly and helpful! Enjoyable stay!
- Darrin (10/5): - The staff at at Kbar Lodge were awsome. The front desk greqted us with smiles qnd where super helpful. Great breakfast in the morning. Pus the view of the mountains from the hotel are breathtaking.
- Christopher (8/5): - Beautiful setting. Room was clean, and the breakfast was fantastic!
- jeannie (10/5): -
- Noralee (10/5): - Arrived after 11 hr drive from Yellowstone. Reservation hiccup resolved by front desk staff. Great facility with professional staff. Strongly recommend if you're staying in Keystone and fits your budget.
- Katie (10/5): This resort was wonderful. I will recomend to all my friends - They gave us the room right off the lobby since I walk with a cane. The room was amazing. The breakfast was extremely good. The hot beverage station in the lobby was so nice. The large fire pit was also wonderful. The hot tubs were just not too exciting.
- Joyce (10/5): - This Lodge is beautiful. Nestled in the tall pine trees with a view of Mt Rushmore. Our room had a spacious patio and comfortable beds. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay here again.
- Paul (10/5): -
- B4434SNmichaelp (10/5): Failure...is not an option. - After a day long 4WD trip from West Yellowstone, arrived to find a hiccup in the reservation (made via Expedia). Front desk crew worked us in on a cancellation and our 6 wk road trip continued without fail. Great facility, professional staff (central reservations aside), and a beautiful setting in the Black Hills. If you're looking to visit the Black Hills, this is one place I can recommend.
- Denny (7/5): - Its location and quiet settings. Front desk staff were accommodating and they got us checked in early We stayed 6 nights so because we didn’t get room service daily and was to confusing. Had to get fresh towels and toiletries even when you followed the rules you had to go get stuff. But still that wouldn’t detour me from staying again.
- Shannon (8/5): - Good
- Emma (10/5): - Such a great place. As a solo traveller with my dog. The pub is great and the location is gorgeous
